‘Tis the season to be jolly!

Ho ho ho! It’s the time of the year when you hear Christmas carols everytime you go out to the shopping malls. It’s the time of the year when your Facebook and Instagram feeds are filled with Christmas trees and Christmas feast! It’s also probably the season you travel.

Speaking of travel, personally I feel that Singapore is a wonderful destination for Christmas. Every year, the country put up so many kinds of Christmas light-up and decorations all over the island, from Boon Lay in the west to Changi in the east, from Punggol in the north to Harbourfront in the south.

Christmas is basically everywhere in Singapore. And the decorations are different every year. I won’t bore you with a list of every single place to see Christmas decorations in Singapore. Instead, here’s a list of Christmas events and Christmas light-ups in Singapore that you don’t want to miss!

In case you’re wondering why are all my photos taken during the day?!?! Honestly, it’s because I just really love to see Christmas decoration with natural lights during the day. Hope it gives you a different perspective of Christmas Light-Up!

Where to go for Christmas in Singapore

1. orchard road: christmas on a great street.

Every year, Orchard Road transforms into a festive and magical wonderland during the Christmas celebration in Singapore, with the main road adorned in glittering lights and breath-taking Christmas decorations.

This year is the 40th edition of the event, and it’s probably the biggest Christmas celebrations at Orchard Road post-pandemic.

From 16 November 2023 to 1 January 2024 , the 3.1km stretch of road from Tanglin Mall to Plaza Singapura (including Scotts Road) will be decorated with Christmas lights and dotted with plenty of immersive attractions, a variety of engaging pop-up activations, and endless musical entertainment.

For the first time ever, there will be a Christmas Eve Street Party on 24 December 2023 . On this day, from 6pm onwards, the street between Paterson junction and Bideford junction will be closed to traffic and it will be transformed into a lively street party from 8pm to 12.30am.

What’s Christmas without the Christmas Village? This year, there will be THREE Great Christmas Villages – up from just one last year – filled with carnival rides, carnival games, pop-up stores and food & beverage kiosks.

The 3 Great Christmas Villages will take place at:

  • Shaw House Urban Plaza (from 24 November 2023 to 1 January 2024 )
  • Plaza Singapura (from 1 December 2023 to 1 January 2024 )
  • Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza (from 8 December 2023 to 1 January 2024 )

Some other sights and events that you don’t want to miss this year are:

  • The Main Arch at the junction of Scotts-Paterson Road (aka the junction of ION-Tangs-Wheelock-Shaw).
  • 3D Projection Show at Hilton Orchard Singapore . Each night between 7pm to 10pm daily (and 7pm to 12.30am on 23 Dec & 31 Dec 2023), the 2 facades of Hilton Orchard will display an immersive multimedia 3D projection show with augmented reality (AR) feature.
  • Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve Countdown . On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, a countdown clock on the face of Hilton’s façade will help revellers mark the start of Christmas and the New Year.
  • Snow Splendours at Tanglin Mall . Every night from 7.30pm to 8pm (weekdays) and 8.30pm to 9pm (weekends), snow (artificial) and avalanche (foam) will be coming to Tanglin Mall.
  • Pop-up stores . Throughout November and December, there will be various pop-up stores along pedestrian walkway from ION Orchard to Mandarin Gallery, including Connor’s Stout Porter, Lovet, New Balance, OPPO, Celebrate Christmas in Singapore, Geneco x Yellow Ribbon and Shopee.
  • Various Christmas Trees and decorations along Orchard Road (some of which I’ll share the photos below).

When is the best time to visit? Go there in the morning if you want less crowd and you don’t need to see the actual lights up. Go there in the evening if you want to see the dazzling lights and performances, but it’ll be crowded so you’ll probably have a hard time to take photos without other people in it.

How much does it cost? It’s free to walk along the Great Street (from Tanglin Road to Orchard Road).

Guide to Christmas in Singapore: Festivals, Events, Things to Do

places to visit during christmas in singapore

Singapore Tourism Board / Andrew Tan

In Singapore, Christmas is a mostly secular affair. Celebrated around shopping, entertainment, and spectacular Christmas lights, even Santa doesn't mind showing up in his full furs despite Singapore's famously humid weather .

If you have a hankering for celebrating the holidays in the tropics, here's a rundown of what you can do during Christmas in Singapore. From the the  shopping districts  of  Orchard Road  and the light spectacles at  Marina Bay , Singapore pulls out all the stops and offers plenty of things to do for the holidays.

See the Lights on Orchard Road

Every Christmas in Singapore, Orchard Road's streets glow with stunning light shows that blaze through the island's prime shopping and entertainment districts. This, combined with the late mall hours and promotions put in place during Christmas season, make nighttime shopping in Singapore way more fun.

The Orchard Road Light-Up, a spectacular street-length light show that stretches about two miles down from Tanglin Mall to Plaza Singapura. Fortunately for tourists, there are a number of great hotels on or near Orchard Road where guests can stay among the Christmas lights.

To see as many light-ups as possible during your trip, you can also opt to take a guided bus tour aboard a two-decker bus operated by Duck & HiPPO Tours , which takes guests through some of Singapore's most popular lighting displays.

Visit the Christmas Village

Another great destination for some holiday light-ups this time of year is the Great Christmas Village, which will be set up in front of Shaw House Urban Plaza from November 23 to December 26. Featuring a collection of holiday events and activities throughout the season, this winter village has something for all ages including amusement rides, a two-level carousel, and visits from Santa Claus at the Santa House. Twenty-five different food vendors will also be on-site at the village's dining area.

Shop the Holiday Sales

Shopping is the central activity for Christmas in Singapore. Outside of the Great Singapore Sale, the promotions and the freebies offered by Singapore's shopping centers are some of the lowest in the region. The tax-free shopping in Singapore also benefits tourists who come to spend Christmas in town; they can redeem the tax they pay on their shopping as soon as they leave the country.

The ION Orchard Shopping Mall on Orchard Road is a great place for holiday deals, especially at pop-up stores on Level 1 and Basement 4 and during the Europe Fair at B4 ION Station. Other great Singapore Christmas promotions include Christmas rewards at the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, the Christmas Wonderland in Gardens by the Bay, and MasterCard promotions at Paragon, Centrepoint, Forum The Shopping Mall, and Takashimaya SC.

Bring in the New Year With a Bang

Singapore holds a number of parties to ring in the new year, one at Marina Bay and the Esplanade waterfront, and another to be thrown at Siloso Beach on Sentosa Island:

Marina Bay Singapore Countdown is Singapore's foremost New Year party and happens at  Marina Bay  on the evening of December 31, with fireworks and performances bursting forth against a highly-modernized backdrop. To mark the countdown celebration, a Wishing Spheres visual art installation will pour into Marina Bay. Singaporeans write their wishes for the New Year onto thousands of giant "wishing spheres", and the spheres are set afloat on December 31.

At Siloso Beach on Sentosa, an island resort, a far more raucous party will ring in the New Year. At the Singapore Sentosa Countdown   stilt-walkers, dancers, and fire-eaters will amplify the excitement launched by the fireworks.

' src=

Welcoming the Festive Season in Singapore

December in Singapore is a whirlwind of twinkling lights and festive cheer, and trust me, the country knows how to throw a Singapore Christmas celebration! The streets buzz with excitement as the air fills with the scent of holiday treats and the sound of Christmas carols.

As I stroll down Orchard Road , the stretch transforms into a glowing wonderland that dazzles kids and adults alike.

For families, the annual Christmas Village is not to be missed. It’s a hub of festive activities where wide-eyed kiddos gasp at the sight of the towering Christmas trees and laugh heartily as they twirl around on the carousel. And for us adults?

Well, there’s plenty of holiday shopping and seasonal treats. I must admit, though, that it can get rather crowded, so it’s worth planning your visit to avoid the busiest times.

Remember, December in Singapore is hot and humid, so dress comfortably.

It’s quite the contrast to the snowy Singapore Christmas scenes we’re used to seeing in movies, but it’s equally magical in its tropical way.

I always find the joy of Christmas in the smiles and the shared moments with loved ones here. So come over, and let’s usher in the holidays with a Singaporean twist!

Must-Visit Singapore Christmas Attractions

As someone who’s witnessed the splendor of Singapore’s festive season first-hand, I can tell you that the island has truly transformed into a twinkling fairyland.

Whether you’re here for the shopping extravaganza or the family-friendly festivities, there’s something for everyone at these must-visit Singapore Christmas spots.

Gardens by the Bay: A Christmas Wonderland

The event starts on 1 Dec ~ 1 Jan next year

Gardens by the Bay becomes a true Christmas Wonderland during the holidays, filled with dazzling light sculptures and festive markets. It’s incredible—a fantasy world of lights perfect for family photos.

However, it can get quite crowded, so try to go early or on a weekday to enjoy the experience fully.

  • Pros: Mesmerizing light displays family-friendly attractions.
  • Cons: It can be overcrowded, especially on weekends.

Orchard Road Christmas Light-Up

The Orchard Road Christmas Light-Up is a shopper’s paradise and a vibrant display of lights that’s a feast for the eyes.

Walking down this iconic street surrounded by illuminated storefronts puts even the grumpiest Grinch in the holiday spirit. It will end on 1st January.

Just remember to wear comfy shoes because you’ll be walking a lot!

  • Pros: Fantastic shopping opportunities and incredible street light-ups.
  • Cons: Busy sidewalks, lots of walking.

Marina Bay Sands Festivities

Marina Bay Sands dresses up for Singapore Christmas, too, and there’s this bubbly holiday vibe that you can’t miss.

The area is a haven for upscale shopping and fine dining aficionados. Although things here can be pricy, the breathtaking view of the Marina Bay waterfront makes up for it.

  • Pros: Upscale atmosphere, stunning views.
  • Cons: High-end prices might not suit everyone’s budget.

Universal Studios Singapore: A Universal Christmas

No one does Christmas like Universal Studios Singapore . The parades are fantastic—the music, the characters, and the festive shows. It’s a haven for kids and adults alike.

The event starts from 2 December to 1 January. Book the ticket of A Universal Christmas in advance!

Here’s a tip: If you’re going with little ones, plan your day around showtimes to avoid meltdowns!

  • Pros: Exciting parades and shows, great for families with kids.
  • Cons: Tickets can be costly; plan for queues at popular attractions.

There’s so much joy and excitement around these attractions that any negatives seem minor. My biggest tip for fellow travelers is to plan, consider your budget, and soak in the festive atmosphere as much as possible!

Family Fun with Singapore Christmas Events

Singapore’s yuletide sparkle isn’t just for the adults; it’s my pleasure to tell you that the festive season here caters to family fun in spades.

Having experienced these events first-hand with my family, I can attest that the city blossoms with joy, laughter, and a touch of magic for everyone, from the tiniest tots to the grown-ups.

Jewel Changi: Pipe Around the World (Mario Bros Theme)

This year, The Christmas event in Jewel Changi is exceptional because they have introduced a Super Mario-themed event in Singapore, bringing a beloved and iconic video game to life amidst the backdrop of Jewel’s stunning architecture.

The Shiseido Forest Valley and Canopy Park within me are adorned with fairy lights, lighted arches, and Christmas decorations, creating a magical and immersive environment for all who visit.

The festive spirit is tangible as guests wander through these beautifully lit areas, enjoying the sights and sounds of the season.

Changi Festive Village: Holiday Delights

The Changi Festive Village 2023 at Changi Airport is a beacon of holiday cheer with its candy-themed extravaganza.

This year, the Village has transformed Terminal 3 into a whimsical playground, offering a variety of attractions that cater to visitors of all ages, making it a unique destination for family fun and festive celebrations. It runs from 4 November –1 January.

One of the main attractions at Changi Festive Village is the Candy Snow House, where visitors can immerse themselves in a winter wonderland in the heart of tropical Singapore.

This attraction features real snow, allowing guests to enjoy snow play and experience the thrill of ice slides and an ice luge, bringing a slice of winter to the airport.

The Candy Carnival is another highlight, offering many games, activities, and treats. It’s a place buzzing with energy and excitement, with candy-themed go-karts that race around, adding an adrenaline rush to the festive atmosphere.

The Candy Wonderland is at the heart of the festivities, which captivates visitors with its sweet-themed decorations and installations.

Towering figures such as a five-meter-tall bear and a seven-meter-tall rotating cupcake Ferris wheel provide a backdrop for enchanting photo opportunities and are a testament to the creativity and detail that have gone into curating this year’s festive village.

X’mas With A Splash @VivoCity by KIZTOPIA

X’mas With A Splash at VivoCity in Singapore is a unique holiday event that blends the joyous atmosphere of Christmas with the excitement of water-themed fun.

This special event is known for its distinctive approach to holiday celebrations, offering a refreshing twist on traditional seasonal festivities.

Visitors can dive into ball pits, navigate through obstacle courses, or zoom down an exhilarating 8-meter tall water slide, all while enjoying the Christmas spirit in a splashy new way.

One of the main attractions at X’mas With A Splash is the specially designed Arctic-themed giant bouncy castles. These are both for bouncing and interactive, allowing kids and adults to explore and play in themed settings.

✅ Book the ticket for X’mas With A Splash @ VivoCity ✅

You can’t miss their snow play sessions, as snow falls under a 15-meter Christmas tree with festive music playing in the background.

With so many options, planning is key— but the smiles on my children’s faces say it all: each event is worth the visit. Here’s a handy table to summarize my experiences:

When diving into these festive experiences, I always check out timings and possible bookings where needed. The blend of festive activities ensures that families will find something special to make their holiday season in Singapore truly magical.

Singapore’s Winter Playlands

I can’t get enough of the festive cheer in Singapore, especially when it transforms into a dazzling winter playland for Singapore Christmas!

If you’re a child or hold onto a youthful spirit, a captivating snowy spectacle and an exhilarating icy adventure are ready to be uncovered.

Ice Magic: The Winter Wonderland Experience

Imagine stepping into a snowy village in Singapore – it’s possible at Ice Magic: The Winter Wonderland , located at the Bayfront Event Space. Pull on your winter jacket and experience the thrill of ice skating, snow slides, and even an ice bowling alley.

The crisp, cold air is so refreshing, but the real magic comes when you throw your first snowball – something I wouldn’t miss for the world.

Tanglin Mall’s Snow Splendours

And for a magical snowfall in the tropics, don’t overlook Tanglin Mall’s Snow Splendours that end on 1 January. This annual treat will delight the kids who have never seen snow.

Witnessing their faces light up as snowflakes dance down—it’s priceless. While it’s not the typical winter chill, it sure adds a spark of winter wonderland to our sunny island.

Shopping for Singapore Christmas

As an avid shopper and family blogger, I’ve scoured Singapore’s holiday markets this year and found them buzzing with festive spirit.

The city’s transformed into a yuletide paradise where shopaholics and gift hunters can revel in a merry treasure trove.

Seasonal Shopping at Plaza Singapura and Ngee Ann City

Plaza Singapura and Ngee Ann City are not just regular malls; they transform into holiday bastions where festive cheer meets retail therapy.

I always make it a point to visit both for their seasonal decor and exclusive deals. The former offers an eclectic mix of mainstream brands and quirky pop-ups, while the latter exudes a more upscale vibe with designer boutiques.

What I Love:

  • Plaza Singapura : Its central location makes it super convenient for a quick gift run.
  • Ngee Ann City : The variety of luxury brands is unrivaled – perfect for finding that extra-special gift.

However, it can get pretty crowded, so brace yourself for the holiday rush and remember that patience is part of the seasonal package!

Summary Table:

In my opinion, the holiday season is the best time to explore Singapore’s vibrant shopping scene.

Markets and malls alike are decked out in their festive finest, and there’s something gratifying about finding just the right gift for someone you care about.

My advice? Take your time, enjoy the decorations, and soak in the festive atmosphere. Happy shopping!

Planning Your Visit to Singapore Christmas Experience

When eyeing the vibrant celebrations of Christmas in Singapore for December 2023 and January 2024, it’s exciting to think about the numerous options for holiday fun during the December school holidays.

I love the festive atmosphere that sweeps across the city, and there’s truly something for everyone, from solo travelers to families.

Dates: Plan to visit in December to witness the best festive decorations. January still has lingering festive events, but the peak cheer is in December.

Weather: Singapore is generally hot and humid, but December can be rainy. Pack light clothes and a raincoat or umbrella—essential not to let the rain dampen your spirits.

  • Visit attractions early or on weekdays to avoid the biggest crowds.
  • Public transport is efficient, and parking can be tricky during the holiday season.
  • Check event schedules; some activities require tickets or reservations.

Here’s a summary:

Remember, while the Singapore Christmas can be a spectacular experience, balancing the bustling atmosphere with moments of relaxation will make your visit enjoyable for all ages. Happy planning!

2020 Christmas in Singapore: Events, lights and activities to feel the Christmas spirit

Christmas in Singapore

Looking to get into the full spirit of the season? Check out this list of places to see the Christmas lights in Singapore and we guarantee you’ll leave singing Christmas carols! Bring in all the magic of the season with these ideas for Christmas in Singapore.

Orchard Road

Orchard Road at Christmas

Come Christmas in Singapore, Orchard Road dresses up with all manners of Christmas themed decorations and gets fully decked with twinkling lights, Christmas carols and red and green storefronts. If you’re a visitor or expat that misses home or want to experience what the Christmas spirit is all about you must start there.

Around mid November, Orchard Road officially lights up the street lights which feature Christmas themes such as snowflakes, reindeer, baubles and trees. The lights turn on in the evening around 6:30pm and stay on till late until the 1st of January. It’s similar feel to Deepavali Little India .

In 2020, the campaign is called Christmas on a Great Street and features not only offline decorations but also a full-fledged website with online events and fun Christmas activities such as an online photo booth, a virtual Orchard Road tour and a variety of offers.

Ion Christmas pinwheel tree

Ion Christmas pinwheel tree

Other than the main Christmas gate of Orchard Road you will find Ion’s large pinwheel Christmas tree made of 250 individual pinwheels that spin with the wind.

Be there at 7:30pm and 8:30pm daily to watch the music and light show and the short video playing behind the tree that explains how it was built.

Christmas Wonderland at Gardens by the Bay

Christmas Wonderland at Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay puts on an annual Christmas theme park at the Supertree Grove that resembles the Christmas markets in Europe with stalls selling decorations, mulled wine and food under the name of Christmas Wonderland .

Foam snowflakes fall from the sky between the tall Avart-ish trees, themed music floats in the air and kids play in the few rides. In 2019, there was even an ice rink to feel like winter.

In 2020, the only offline Christmas installation will be a light display called Walk of Lights that will run from the 4th December and allow visitors a half hour self-guided tour if they buy tickets online . And of course, there’s always Garden Rhapsody, the GBS Light Show .

Other events will all go online including online video calls with Santa, a huge giveaway, a Christmas song singing contest, a puzzle contest, and more, all from the comfort of your home and for the price of a membership starting at $8 and going all the way to $25 at the Virtual Christmas Wonderland website .

Pro tip : The tickets for the Walk of Lights and the Virtual membership are bought separately. You must buy tickets for the Walk of Lights online, they are not sold on site.

Changi Festive Village at Changi Airport and Jewel

Changi Festive Village at Changi Airport and Jewel

Changi and Jewel are putting up a Christmas themed show until the 3rd of January including displays and activities across Terminal 3 and 4 and Jewel under the Changi Festive Village name.

Combine your visit with access to the Canopy at the top and Jurassic Mile and you’ll have an entire day at Jewel that will feel like a day at an amusement park. It’s also one of the best spots to visit in Singapore when it rains and is the most Instagrammable .

What can you do at Jewel for Christmas in Singapore?

Sparkling Christmas at Jewel

Sparkling Christmas at Jewel

The main Christmas themed display at Jewel is at the Vortex.

A 16m tall Christmas tree gives way to the center of the waterfall where there are several Christmas themed photo ops and props like a sled, a stall selling warm cookies, a dial that you can stand below and it will mark whether you have been naughty or nice and, at every half hour from 6:30pm onwards, foam snowflakes.

As far as we know, access to the Vortex area is free until 6:30pm, you will need to show a receipt of $30 (spent at Jewel Shopping Mall) for every two people to gain access after that. Passes cannot be purchased separately.

Sentosa Island Lights with Sanrio

From 12 December to 3 January Sentosa is having one of the most kawaii light festivals you can imagine. Island Lights will feature seven of the most well-known and adored Sanrio characters including 8m tall installations of Hello Kitty, Pompompurin, My Melody and Little Twin Stars.

The light installations are placed on one of Singapore’s favorite beaches Siloso on Sentosa. This is sure to be a completely Insta-worthy walk along the beach where lit up installations of Sentosa’s past are combined with the cutesy characters that will whisk you away to Japan . There will be plenty of photo ops including demarcated benches for the best wefie.

While visiting the area is free, you will need to reserve online. You can register one of three sessions for up to 5 people. Sessions are an hour long and go from 7.30pm to 10.30pm. You can book five days in advance from 7 December and enter at the Sapphire Pavilion.  Show your email confirmation for access. reserve your ticket online here .

Dino Wanderland

Dino Wanderland

In Terminal 3 you will find Dino Wanderland, a dinosaur-themed Christmas in Singapore exhibit that you can take pictures at.

To access the exhibit and take pictures on the sled, you need a receipt worth $30 (from Jewel) for every party of 4 people taking 1 picture together. Terms and conditions can be found here .

What you need to know:

  • Receipts need to be for the same day and on qualifying purchases (e.g. Jewel activities such as the Canopy, Changi Studio, etc. do not qualify) and using a qualifying payment method (that is, no credit cards allowed).
  • Photos are available from 3-9pm from Monday to Wednesday and from 11am to 3pm from Thursday to Sunday.
  • You can buy additional photo passes at $5 here .

Dino Dazzle at Jurassic Mile

Singapore has really gone dino crazy this year! So while you can make your way to Dino Wanderland, there’s yet another prehistoric Christmas event that you can attend at Changi. We’ve mentioned Jurassic Mile above, but what some may not know is that the one-kilometer stretch will be covered in lights up until January 3.

See Mr T-rex like never before as he will be covered in fairy lights. The trees will be lit in neon and the walkway will look all the more merrier. Visit Jurassic Mile after 6:30pm to see the Mile all lit up and glowing with festive spirit. Entrance is free.

tokidoki Snow Holiday

tokidoki Snow Holiday

A small indoor play zone with short sides, an igloo and several tokidoki cartoons where kids can play in the snow and take pictures in.

Each play slot will consist of 20 minutes of briefing/preparation and 20 minutes of play time for both weekdays and weekends/public holidays. Play slots are available for booking from 20 November 2020 to 3 January 2021 daily from 10:40am to 10:20pm (last entry at 9:40pm).

Each activity pass includes complimentary use of winter jackets and boots for the participant. You need to bring your own socks and long trousers or you’ll be able to rent them there.

If you don’t have a receipt with the minimum value, you can buy a Playpass for $13,90.

Air tokidoki

At Terminal 3 as well, you can feel the closest you’ll get to flying at this replica airplane interior (Economy Class) that is tokidoki themed. Take pictures with tokidoki characters and have fun, for free.

Dino bounce

At Terminal 4, you will find more dinosaur themed activities at the large bouncy castle. Like with other attractions, you can present a receipt to enjoy the fun, only this is just for kids aged 5 to 12 and measuring a minimum of 1m.

Each slot will be 20 minutes exclusive of 5 minutes of briefing/preparation. Slots will be released 5 days prior to the activity date and the activity opens from 3-10pm Monday to Wednesday and from 2-11pm from Thursday to Sunday.

If you don’t have a receipt, you can buy access for $8 at Playpass .

At Terminal 4 near the taxi waiting area, you will also find a small dinosaur themed go kart.

This activity cannot be redeemed for free with receipts, you need to buy access passes, but if you have a receipt you can get them cheaper. Prices start at $12 for novices on weekdays and go as high as $22 for professionals on weekends.

This activity is open from 3-9pm from Monday to Wednesday and from 11am to 3pm from Thursday to Sunday. Activity passes will be available for booking/purchase 5 days prior to the activity date. You must wear closed shoes and kids need to be 9 years old and above and measure 1.3m.

Besides all the activities, Changi and Jewel have also organised lots of Christmas workshops you can participate in and which will keep you busy all day, from drone flying to terrarium making.

Find them all here .

How all the Changi Festive Village activities work

It is incredibly confusing to figure out how the activity passes and the voucher for activities actually work because each is different and has specific requirements. The website is even more confusing and the staff at the shops have no idea either. It all feels a bit like a macabre puzzle making it very difficult to figure out.

Other than the requirements I listed above, this is what we know.

  • Each receipt can only grant a maximum of 4 passes so anything above $120 does not grant you any more accesses.
  • To qualify, purchases must be made from 20 November 2020 to 3 January 2021 and the receipts redeemed the same day.
  • You can buy passes to all activities, so if you don’t want the whole hassle, just get them ahead on time online and you’re done. If you participate in all activities you’ll spend $50 (with professional karting).
  • Most activities will grant access to 2 people for $30, so if you have a kid then you’ll need a minimum spend of $60 for the 3 of you to participate (except for the Dino Wanderland which is for a maximum of 4 people per receipt).
  • I recommend you first go have a meal or a purchase so that you can then use your receipt.

Pro tip : Go early, entrance to the Vortex is on a first-come-first-serve basis and with a maximum capacity to keep social distancing and it does get absolutely packed. If you can, go during the week or earlier (6:30pm instead of 7:30pm) to avoid queueing for nothing.

Universal Studios

Minions at Universal Studios Singapore

Universal Studios went from Halloween to Christmas in Singapore in 2 days and has themed the park entirely for the holiday season since the beginning of November and until the 3rd of January.

Attractions are still implementing social distancing and capacity is controlled so this is not the Universal you might be used to but it can still be a fun day out on Sentosa .

You’ll find Minions dressed up with Christmasssy outfits, Christmas decorations and lots of photo ops and meet and greet with characters from Sesame Street , Madagascar and more. Every ticket gets a Christmas themed mask.

Pro tip : Queues are long and because of social distancing and the constant disinfection, you will most likely spend more time queueing than riding. So take it easy, relax and arm yourself with patience. The little ones will enjoy it more because they will care less about actually getting on rides and more on taking in the overall festive spirit.

Get your Universal tickets here .

CapitaLand Lego festive Carnival

CapitaLand Lego festive Carnival

This year, CapitaLand has teamed up with Lego to create Christmas installations all around the city’s 13 malls where kids can play and take photos until 31 December.

Each scene is Christmas themed and some allow kids to ride them or to play in them with slides and other interactive elements. Why not go on a treasure hunt across the island to find them all?

The installations are at Bedok Mall, Bukit Panjang Plaza, Bugis+, Bugis Junction, Funan, IMM, JCube, Junction 8, Lot One Shoppers’ Mall, Plaza Singapura, SingPost Centre, Tampines Mall and Westgate.

You can see gingerbread men, Santa Claus, a 20m carousel at IMM, a ferris wheel at Tampines Mall, Funan and JCube and a roller coaster at Plaza Singapura and Junction 8.

CapitaMalls will turn the Christmas installations into Chinese New Year ones in the new year.

Nutcracker and the Whimsical Realms of Christmas in Singapore

The Capitol and Chijmes have several Christmas-themed celebrations and workshops ready for the holidays. You can learn to make your own arts and crafts, tree decorations or even Christmas meals and, in 2020, you can buy from their online Christmas market vendors.

Activities are available from 20 November until 25 December.

Dinner in a bubble at Chijmes or Capitol

Dinner in a bubble at Chijmes or Capitol

For a more unusual meal under the stars, Chjmes and Capitol Theatre have joined the bubble trend and installed a few domes on the lawn and Outdoor Plaza where you can have dinner with twinkling lights, we would say under the stars but really, this is in the middle of Singapore, there are no stars to be seen but the whimsical fairy lights do help feel a bit of magic.

Book here .

Snow City and the Science Center

Snow City and the Science Center

Not necessarily Christmas themed but nothing says Christmas like snow, and cold and what better place to enjoy this than at Snow City. This all-year-round activity is fun for kids and adults and allows you to enjoy the real cold beyond the crazy AC temperatures.

Snow City is quite compact so you won’t spend more than 30min inside. The most fun part are the rides down the pneumatic donuts. You can buy photographs that will be taken of you at every step, your own photos are not allowed.

Pro tip : Make sure to book ahead or the queue could be brutal (1h plus on the weekends). Bring your own long trousers, closed shoes and jackets to avoid having to pay for rental. We recommend gloves as well, it does get cold inside. Remember the complex closes for 1h at lunch time, 1pm to 2pm.

Animal Planet exhibition

After or before Snow City make sure to check out the Animal Planet itinerant exhibition that is at the Science Center next door and the Science Center itself which is one of our favorite museums in Singapore .

The exhibition is obviously animal themed, but it is also strongly focused on the Arctic and Antarctica and the wildlife and conservation in those parts of the world. It is not cold inside, but it makes for a nice Christmas in Singapore feel and a good learning opportunity for kids to know more about conservation of the planet.

It’s a popular spot for tourists and locals.

Celebrating Christmas in Singapore

How do Residents in Singapore Celebrate Christmas?

Singapore’s holidays is a time for people to celebrate their love for food and shopping. It’s also a great opportunity to get together with family and friends.

The lights on the shopping belt of Singapore’s famous Orchard Road are usually turned on in December to celebrate the holiday season. This act of festivity serves as a great reminder to go shopping.

Holiday menus are also displayed at various restaurants across the island, which gives a festive twist to the already impressive dining scene. During the holiday season, people flock to the booths and eat at the tables set up in the Christmas Village, but it’s not all about indulgence.

The holiday season is a special occasion for Christians in Singapore, as it’s the time when they commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. Although it’s a religious event, everyone is allowed to participate in the fun of celebrating the holidays.

In Singapore, it is possible to celebrate the holidays in a religious manner similar to what is done in Western countries. Although many do, the majority don’t. On Christmas Eve, there are churches all around the city that can be visited.

During the service, you can enjoy a traditional holiday meal at home or at church. Some of the popular holiday dishes in Singapore include roast turkey, pumpkin pie, fruitcake, and eggnog. Since many western restaurants in the city-state will be offering these food items during this time of year, it’s not necessary to bring food to your home.

In most parts of Singapore, a more secular way to maintain the season prevails. During the holiday season, shopping is a ritual that most people in the city-state do. There are various areas where you can find stores and malls that are open late. To ensure that the customers have the best possible experience, these establishments will stay open for an extra few hours.

Throughout the city, you will notice an abundance of street performances, parades, and floats. Most stores in Singapore display various holiday decorations and lights. The trees in the city-state are usually decorated with ribbons, candies, and stuffed animals. However, the differences between Singapore and the West are not as significant as one might think.

Let’s Kick It Off With Some Holiday Fun!

In Singapore, the holidays is a time for celebrating togetherness and giving. This year, the country holds various events and activities that are designed to bring people together. Aside from these, there are also plenty of other things to do and see during this holiday season.

Due to the large number of attractions in Singapore, it can be very challenging to choose a suitable event for Christmas. Most of them will be holding their own special event. But if you need a headstart, these events are always a winner:

  • Christmas on a Great Street
  • Pinkmas , Museum of Ice Cream Singapore
  • A Universal Christmas , Universal Studios Singapore
  • Merry Fishmas , S.E.A. Aquarium Singapore

The winter breeze in Singapore can help usher in the holiday spirit. This activity is great for experienced and first-time skaters.

You can enjoy some icy fun during Christmas in these places:

  • Kallang Ice World

The holiday dinner is a time to celebrate with family and friends, and this is the perfect occasion to enjoy some of your favorite traditional dishes that have been Singapore-ified.

  • Yule log cake with pandan gula melaka at Bake Avenue
  • Christmas Tandoori Turkey at Shahi Maharani North Indian Restaurant
  • Boneless roast turkey breast with buah keluak sauce at Copthorne King’s Hotel
  • Sugee Cake at Chin Mee Chin

In Singapore, people who are looking for a more somber occasion can attend Midnight Mass or other religious services. The most popular locations for these services are these churches:

  • Church of the Holy Family
  • Catholic Church of St Ignatius
  • St George’s Church
  • Church of St Bernadette

Every year, Changi Airport gears up for its own holiday celebration. With stunning light displays and more, this attraction is no less than a veritable Christmas theme park!

The best things to do at Changi Airport on Christmas are: Getting some pictures with Disney Tsum Tsums, glamping your heart out with a luxurious staycation experience, time traveling to the past with Dino Blitz and gorging on the largest fries in Singapore at the Dino Carnival.

Where to Buy Christmas Decorations

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and it’s time to start preparing for the holidays. This is also the perfect time to decorate your home.

Christmas Tree in Singapore

Celebrating Christmas in Singapore

Unlike other places, Christmas trees aren’t as popular as the holiday light-ups here in Singapore. Imagine, there’s an entire street lined with trees and decorated with lights! The most popular place where you can find a lit-up Christmas tree is the Botanic Gardens, and some malls – but they’re mostly small ones, and not as bright. That being said, if you’re looking for the best places to see Christmas light installations in Singapore, check these out:

The Ion Orchard Mall and Christian Dior are collaborating to bring a 15-meter-tall replica of the famous Dior Star to Asia. This will be the largest of its kind in the region.

This place will be transformed into a magical place through the work of Wisma Atria, who will be collaborating with ITE College Central students. There are various things to see and do in this area, such as Queen of Hearts Christmas trees and tea sets.

The Capitol Singapore mall features various decorations such as Santa’s sidecar and igloos. It also has a skating rink, where you can bask in the snowfall while you glide through the ice amid bright lights.

The Gardens at The Bay is transformed into an interactive Christmas Wonderland with a dazzling light show and endless light bulbs. The shows will be held from 6 to 10 pm.

Another place to watch Christmas shows is Universal Studios Singapore. This year, they’re bringing some of the characters from movies such as “Trolls,” “Minions,” and “Sesame Street.”

8 Things To Do On Christmas In Singapore

1. orchard road.

See The Lights On Orchard Road

Hands down, the best place to marvel at pretty Christmas lights and take selfies with reindeer in Singapore is Orchard Road. Sporting a new theme every year, Singapore’s busiest shopping street is also its most dressed out at the holidays! The best-decorated portions of the road stretch from the Forum on the west side of Orchard to Orchard Gateway in the east. (That’s a 1.5 km walk if you decide to walk the whole thing, which I definitely recommend you do.) Make a night of it by walking the full length of the road, admiring the creative Christmas displays, and dropping inside the malls to see who gets bragging rights for the biggest and best Christmas tree!

2. Christmas Markets

Shopping At The Christmas Markets

Prada and Gucci too expensive for your budget? Why not tick off the items on your Christmas list at one of Singapore’s pop-up Christmas markets and bazaars instead? Bringing a little European-inspired Christmas charm to the Lion City, here are a few of the best Christmas markets in Singapore :

Great Christmas Village Located in front of Ngee Ann City on Orchard Road, the Great Christmas Village is open 25 November to 25 December. Admission is free. Expect plenty of food vendors, Christmas concerts and stage performances, rides for kids, and several boutique and brand name stalls offering unique Christmas gifts and treats.

Christmas in Queenstown Located at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Dundee Road, Christmas In Queenstown is open 15 to 17 December and 22 to 23 December. Admission is free. Expect one-of-a-kind handicrafts and artisan goods from local independent shops, live music, and a variety of food stalls.

3. Christmas Carols

Listen To Christmas Carols

Whether you’re content to simply enjoy the melodies of others or you feel like spontaneously breaking into song yourself, it’s not a proper Christmas without Christmas carols! There are several organized Christmas carol concerts that take place in Singapore at Christmas, the most highly regarded of which are the concerts at St Andrew’s Cathedral. If you don’t mind buying a ticket to hear Christmas carols, there are excellent concerts on weekends at Gardens by the Bay’s Christmas Wonderland event. Other than that, if you get lucky, you just might stumble across several informal (though no less holiday cheer-inducing) Christmas carol performances while shopping on Orchard Road. Your best chance for seeing these will be on Orchard between Scotts Road and Bideford Road on weekends and evenings in December!

4. Ice Skating

Give Ice Skating In The Tropics A Go

Feeling brave this holiday season? Ice skating is one of the most popular holiday traditions in countries a little further north of the equator, and while you wouldn’t normally expect that tradition to carry over into the tropics, Singapore makes sure that if you want to make a fool of yourself on the ice, you totally can. There are two permanent ice rinks in Singapore – The Rink at JCube in East Jurong and Kallang Ice World at Kallang Leisure Center. Both rinks offer 2-hour skating sessions and the price of your ticket includes skates rental.

If you want to skate somewhere with a more Christmasy atmosphere, your best option is a ticket to “Skate Under the Stars” at Christmas Wonderland. The only downside? Because it’s outside, the rink is obviously not made of ice. Instead, you’ll be skating on a high-tech, made-to-look-like-ice-but-isn’t sheet of plastic. For that reason, this option may be best for kids who will find the smaller rink less intimidating and the skating aids adorably cute.

5. Christmas Brunch

Schedule A Christmas Brunch

If you can’t indulge a little at Christmas, then when can you? Several of Singapore’s luxury hotels pull out all the stops at Christmas to provide those who would rather avoid the kitchen at all costs (and the inevitable clean-up) with a holiday feast to remember. From inventive international buffets to multi-course fine dining, there are a seemingly endless array of options available for those looking for an effortless Christmas Day meal. Several locations known for their epic Christmas Day brunches are Edge at the Pan Pacific, The Line at Shangri-La Singapore, and Mezza 9 at the Grand Hyatt. (Book early as the most popular venues tend to get reserved quickly!) Not looking to spend $150+ per head? Both Jamie’s Italian and Open Farm Community offer more affordable Christmas brunch options.

The most affordable option that doesn’t even require you to change out of your pajamas on Christmas Day? Make your own Christmas brunch! (If you’re not feeling up to cooking the whole meal, you can order all sorts of dishes from Cold Storage to be picked up on or before Christmas.

There are more than 25 pop-up stores with exclusive brands such as Haagen Dazs, Starbucks, SK-II, Tiffany & Co. Live bands and carollers will also stage daily gigs, boosting the festive spirit as you indulge in retail therapy and a slew of amusement rides. After feasting on delicious Yuletide treats and shopping for artisanal gifts, swing by Hitachi’s Santa House and snap a selfie or two with Santa.

This year’s Orchard Road Christmas light-up has been shifted earlier to 3pm. Spanning 2.88 km from Tanglin Mall to Plaza Singapura, the entire stretch is decked in whimsical fairy lights and even features extravagant light-reflective tunnels. You have more reasons now to start your celebrations sooner than later!
