The Perfect Travel Guide to Aruba

By Helene Sula

Escaping the chilly weather, we landed in Aruba the week before Christmas and were greeted with a tropical oasis. The crystal blue waters lapped lightly along the soft white sand. In the background I could hear Dutch, American, Aruban, and a plethora of other accents. The island is a great mix of cultures, natural beauty, and cuisine. My travel guide to Aruba will share everything you need to know about what to do on the island.

travel vlog beach

The island of Aruba is relatively small, which makes it easy to get around and see everything in a few days or a week. We rented a car, which is the perfect way to explore the island. There are a lot of things to do near the hotels but my favorite spots were usually found by car, so I highly recommend renting a car (I almost always recommend that for almost every destination!).

After years of wanting to go, the Aruba Tourism Authority contacted us to visit and we knew it would be the perfect warm weather adventure. Aruba is one of the ABC islands which are part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. This means there’s a great influence of many different cultures which makes Aruba stand out from some of the other islands in the Caribbean. People who grow up on the island learn four languages.

There’s a variety of trees, mesmerizing beaches, and luxury stays that make for a vacation that’s suitable for everyone. Aruba is nicknamed “One happy island” and after talking to the locals I can definitely see why! People are helpful and friendly and will always give you a recommendation.

Whether you’re looking for the best places to stay, see what to do, what to pack, or what excursions to choose, this Aruba travel guide will share everything you need to know.

Traveling to Aruba during COVID-19

Aruba at a glance, things not to miss in aruba:, where to stay in aruba – boardwalk hotel aruba, what to do in aruba, best beaches in aruba, excursions in aruba, things to see in aruba, where to eat in aruba, what to pack for aruba.

One of the biggest benefits of going to Aruba is feeling safe during the pandemic. Before arriving Aruba requires you to provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours before your arrival. Almost all dining options are outside which is perfect in the evening with the warm breeze. Our temperatures were taken before arriving at most locations and they’ve taken all procedures to keep things clean and safe. Check out all you need to know about entry requirements for Aruba here .

How many days to visit Aruba ? 3-7 days, we spent 5.

When to visit the island? Because of the beautiful weather year-round, you'll find the island a great to place to visit any time. But October – April is when it’s most popular. Aruba gets more sunny days than any other island in the Caribbean.

What’s the weather like in Aruba? Warm and windy. Temperatures average in the mid-80s.

Currency in Aruba? Everywhere accepts USD but the currency is Florian (exchange rate is about half of USD.)

How to get to Aruba? There’s only one airport in Aruba so it makes it easy! You’ll fly into Reina Beatrix International Airport (AUA). This is also where to pick up your car rental.

How to get around Aruba? We went with Amigo car rental. There are also cruises that go to Aruba as well. You will need a passport to enter Aruba. Located in the south (almost to Venezuela) it’s just outside the hurricane belt, stretching 19.6 miles long and 6 miles wide. Aruba is very safe – considered the safest island in the Caribbean. Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao are referred to as the ABC islands of Netherlands Antilles or the Dutch Antilles.

travel vlog beach

  • Go beach hopping and check out the incredible white sand beaches
  • Try the cuisine! There’s so much diversity, but I’m partial to the Dutch pancakes
  • Go horseback riding on the beach
  • Explore the Arikok National Park
  • Go snorkeling on a cruise

This is a beautiful, small boutique hotel within walking distance to the beach. Stepping inside is like a jungle oasis – there are palm trees throughout and iguanas that skitter by when you walk the boardwalk. The boho chic vibes make me want to completely redo my home and I loved the pops of pastel pinks and blue. But the best part is the rain water shower. This is especially important at the beach as I usually shower twice a day!

travel vlog beach

Aruba offers plenty of activities and adventure that will please all ages and activity levels. There are beautiful beaches, of course, but take time to go on some excursions around the island.

I was so shocked by the calmness of the water and by just how clear and turquoise it is. I can definitely see why people flock to the beaches of Aruba.

Eagle Beach

Find pristine white sand and palm trees right next to the iconic Divi Divi trees. This is known as one of the best beaches in the world!

travel vlog beach

This is where all the high rise hotels are located. You'll find a lovely beach with great restaurants nearby. You’ll find extremely soft sand. That’s because the sand is sifted to remove pebbles and shells so you can walk with ease!

travel vlog beach

Mangel Halto

A great beach for snorkeling and little hidden coves surrounded by trees. It’s a rocky cove with ladders that go down into the crystal water.

Great place to watch the sunset and go snorkeling. Just a short drive from Palm beach, but less crowded.

A pretty and popular beach and a great place to feed the wild donkeys! This is a very shallow beach that’s great for families.

travel vlog beach

A popular for swimming and snorkeling.

Druif Beach

A rocky beach with cool rock formations and a break from the white sand.

Here's where Aruba really shines! There are so many excursions and options for what to do on the island.

Horseback riding

My favorite experience on the island! We took a tour with Goldmine Ranch that took us through the northeast coast of Aruba with a beautiful landscape of beaches and cactus strewn landscapes. It was exhilarating to gallop on the beach on a horse as the waves crashed nearby. I will admit I was a bit nervous for the ride but our guide, Andres, was incredible and made me feel so at ease. We opted for the Private Paradise tour which I highly recommend.

travel vlog beach

Our first cruise was a snorkeling cruise with Jolly Pirates . We stopped at 3 different locations to snorkel. The first was a stop was the Antilla WWII ship wreck. The next two spots were clear, turquoise water that were perfect for seeing colorful fish and coral. The cruise includes unlimited drinks and lunch.

travel vlog beach

We also sailed with Red Sail to watch sunset at sea. This is also an open bar and comes with appetizers. The water is so calm it was amazing! I usually get seasick and I didn’t on either excursion.

travel vlog beach

A great way to see some of the top sights in Aruba is with a De Palm Jeep Tour . The 4-hour tour will take you to the National Park , the Natural Bridge Ruins which fell in 2005 (it was the largest natural bridge in the Caribbean at the time), the Casiburi rock formation (an unusual rock formation), the Alto Vista Chapel dating back to 1750, the California Lighthouse , named after the S.S. California that wrecked here in 1852. The lighthouse was finally completed in 1916. Be on the lookout for cactus across the arid landscape, it makes for a different view from other Caribbean islands.

travel vlog beach

Snorkeling or Scuba Diving

This is a great place to snorkel and there are a number of beaches to do this around the island. Our best snorkeling experience was definitely on our Jolly Pirates tour.

There’s nothing like getting a massage or facial after a long day in the sun. We had a couple's massage at the Marriott Aruba .

On the north side of the island you’ll find high rise hotels and luxury shopping. On the east side of the island has a rugged, rocky coast that’s less developed. This coastline is full of volcanic formations.

Explore the Arikok National Park – we went here on our Jeep Tour and got to see sweeping views of the island (this is the highest point on the island). Then you’ll drive down bumpy roads to the Natural Pool, an excellent place for snorkeling. The Natural Pool or “conchi” called “Cura di Tortuga” is a secret, hidden pool on the windward coast surrounded by rugged terrain.

travel vlog beach

Renaissance Beach – This is the insta-famous beach where you can feed the flamingos. Located off Aruba’s downtown you'll find this beach by ferry – they run every 15 minutes. Keep in mind a day pass is not cheap, $125 for the day. Or, you can stay at the Renaissance Hotel for about $200 a night.

California Lighthouse – Located in the Noord aka the northern tip of the island. The stone lighthouse took years to construct and is 100 feet high. There’s also a restaurant located here that has sweeping views.

travel vlog beach

Bushiribana   Goldmine  – Here you’ll find cool ruins of a goldmine made to look like a fortress with beautiful views of the water. In 1825, the Aruba Gold Mining company built this smelter to extract gold from ore and left it to be destroyed by the sea water.

Oranjestad  – This is the capital city and the colorful downtown is usually very busy since this is the harbor for cruise ships (although currently none are running). You’ll find plenty of shops and restaurants alongside historical buildings. This is also a great spot for nightlife.

San Nicolas – This is known as the “Sunrise City” as the best place to see the sunrise if you’re up for it! This is a beautiful place for beaches including Baby Beach.

There’s over 200 restaurants on the island with a wide range of cuisine. You’ll find surprisingly good Italian, fresh fish and seafood, delicious fine dining, and even traditional Dutch pancakes.

Wilhelmina – My favorite meal of the trip! This was a decadent 4 course dinner with some of the most delicious fresh fish dishes and scallops. You can sit outside in a tropical oasis with warm candle light. We started with the homemade truffle ravioli and seafood salad and both were perfect. Then I had the catch of the day, red snapper, and lemon tart for dessert.

travel vlog beach

Zeerovers – This is a local favorite serving up fresh, fried fish. Almost every local recommended this one to us.

Quinta Del Carmen – Located in a 100 year old mansion, the restaurant is full of history and is a delight for your tastebuds. Classic and inventive dishes in a beautiful, outdoor setting.

Linda’s – casual and traditional this is an inexpensive lunch spot that will give you a taste of Amsterdam.

travel vlog beach

Dutch Pancake House – for more inventive pancakes and lots of options, go to the Dutch Pancake house. I tried the Peach on the beach made with Grand Mariner! I loved that the wait staff was direct from Holland.

Hilton Romantic Dinner for Two – Definitely the most Instagrammable. You’ll have a romantic setup on the beach with just the two of you to watch the sunset and pick from a selection off a set menu. Make sure you book at least 24 hours in advance.

travel vlog beach

Madame Janette –  Another fine dining option in a casual atmosphere with Caribbean cuisine. Also great ambiance!

Moomba Beach Bar – great place for frozen pina coladas as you gaze over the water.

Eduardo’s Beach Shack – A great place for breakfast (this was actually where we could get breakfast from our Boardwalk Hotel). You’ll find fresh smoothies and açaí bowls.

Pinchos – A favorite around the island, this casual bar on a pier with beautiful views of the water. Classic Caribbean fare.

Aruba is a casual, beach destination, but there are a number of fine dining restaurants so I suggest bringing a dress or pants to wear for a nice evening dinner or photos on the beach. Here's a quick look at what to bring:

  • Negative Covid Test Results
  • Flip Flops
  • Light jacket at night
  • Tennis shoes/ hiking shoes
  • Aruba has the same voltage as the US so no need to bring a power adapter

Aruba is a happy island that full adventure. There’s so much to see and do it makes it an easy destination to plan a trip back!

travel vlog beach

Big thanks to the Aruba Tourism Board for hosting us so we could experience Aruba’s unique offerings. All opinions from the trip are my own.

The Best Travel Youtube Channels

Kara and nate, who are they:  .

Kara and Nate are travel vloggers that are just good wholesome fun.  They set out from Nashville Tennesee to travel the world about 5 years ago.  Soon after, they made a bucket list goal to visit 100 countries by 2020.  They met their 100-country goal, and by that time, YouTube was a steady career for them.  Kara and Nate are truly addicted to international travel, but COVID changed that game for the couple.  Having no quit in them, they found a way to travel safely and returned to the United States.  They converted a Sprinter van and have set a new goal to visit all 50 states.  Kara and Nate are one of the largest travel channels and have now put out more than 800 videos, so you better get started!

What Makes Kara and Nate Special:

Kara is a joyful soul. Her big smile and contagious laugh keep you smiling the whole episode.  Plus, she is always ready to laugh at herself and just seems like an all-around nice person.  Nate is so driven and incredibly smart.  Their channel not only provides solid entertainment but great travel hacks and tips from Nate.  Nate has an online course on credit card travel hacks, while Kara sells courses on editing.

Kara and Nate don’t just randomly vlog, they focus on finding the absolute best and most unique experiences and accommodations in their travels.  On top of all that, their filming and editing skills are above and beyond most in the travel vlog world.  They have taken this venture as a business from early on in the process, and it shows.  They are some of the best travel vloggers in the world!

Flying the Nest

Stephen and Jess are an Australian couple who have been traveling the world for years!  We have watched them grow up, get married, and start a family on YouTube.  Currently, they are traveling Australia in their brand new converted van, “Cooper The Van.”  Stephen and Jess show us the best places to eat, unique places to stay, and how to still have adventure even when the kiddos come along.

What Makes Flying the Nest Special:

Jess is possibly the most down-to-earth beauty out there.  Nothing seems to ruffle her feathers, and she is just a calming force to watch.  Stephen is quirky and so funny.  He is a dork, and he knows it, and he owns it!  Their love for each other is evident, and it’s just a feel-good watch.  Plus, now they have the addition of beautiful baby Hunter, the most chill travel baby ever!

Hunter has added a whole new level of cute to the series, and the whole audience feels like proud parents watching their own child experience her first Aussie beach sunset.  They are a beautiful family, with a beautiful story.  In addition to all this, Stephen’s camera work and elegant editing style are all his own.  His work is distinguishable and excellent!  We think Flying the Nest is one of the best travel youtube channels out there!

Who Are They :

There is nothing more fun on the planet than watching these two crazy Welsh kids tackle the world! Their accents are hilarious.  They are hilarious.  Craig and Aimee have been together for a very long time, and their relationship has been strengthened by a near-death experience by each of them!  When they met, Aimee had just received a cancer diagnosis, and the road was long and hard.  Then, Craig challenged their relationship some more with a broken neck from an adventure sports accident.

These two events, in a short span of time, convinced this crazy pair to chase after an unconventional life, and to live every moment to its fullest! Through it all, they have kept their joy and their sense of spontaneity.  Their motto is to “Rule Your Own World,” and they certainly do.  They have spent the last couple of years renovating a Mercedes Vario Bus into their new home.  Custard the Bus is a beauty, and her European adventures are just beginning. They have 500 travel videos for you to binge!  We think they are one of the best travel channels on YouTube and terribly underrated.

What Makes Kinging It Special:

Craig and Aimee are absolutely hilarious.  They will have you wetting yourself, every episode!  Plus, they take on the wildest challenges.  They have completed the massive and absurd Mongol Rally, a competition that travels all through Europe and Asia, usually ending somewhere in Eastern Russia.  The car must be a clunker and have under a 1L engine, and chaos is highly encouraged!  Craig and Aimee’s Mongol Rally Series will have you rolling. Then these crazy kids bought their own rickshaw and proceeded to drive it from across India from North to South.  It was a wild ride.  Craig and Aimee are two personalities that you won’t soon forget, and their wild abandon, hilarious travel stories, and zest for life will make you want to live a little more freely, and “Rule your own world!”

Raya and Louis

Who are they:.

Raya and Louis are fairly new to the Travel YouTube scene as a couple, but Louis Cole has been in the biz for a long time.  His original channel, FunForLouis has over 2Million Subs, and it’s easy to see why.  Louis is just likable with his laidback vibe and a head full of dreadlocks. He’s an easy-going and loveable dude.  He and Raya are currently traveling through Europe in a rented van visiting family and taking holiday, but soon they will head back to their main mission.  They have about 50 videos out, so you can still easily catch up with the adventure.

What Makes Raya and Louis Special:

Raya and Louis are into deep convos.  They have spilled the beans about the hard parts of their relationships and mental health issues, and there is just something about that level of vulnerability that makes you want to watch. They are also very eco-conscious and give great tips on how to travel in an eco-friendly way.  They have recently purchased land in Costa Rica to build a tree-house jungle community.  Like with everyone else, COVID changed their plans a bit, but soon, they will be making their way down to Costa Rica in their converted school bus to start a new life!  We can’t wait to see the community they build.

Endless Adventure

Eric and Allison are the most charming couple from Missouri.  They’re sometimes Southern twang and complete and utter talent to be their quirky selves is both endearing and super funny.  Eric is a computer geek and a total self-proclaimed nerd.  Allison is red-headed beauty with the best big awkward laugh.  These two specialize in unique accommodations and lots of food! They always show us the best places to eat, and exactly what weird foods to try.

Their lighthearted personalities and willingness to just be their nerdy selves make you instantly love them!  They have currently begun a tiny home renovation too, but not any old sprinter van would fit these two.  They have bought a completely run-down 1970s RV, and they are taking on the renovation completely by themselves!  Clementine  is going to be a beauty, and it has been an awesome journey to watch.  They have  737  videos for you to catch up on!

What Makes Endless Adventure Special:

They make great videos.  They cover great content, but Allison and Eric are people you could watch read the phone book and be happy.  They are really enjoyable to watch, no matter what they are doing.  They obviously love one another. They love good beer and whiskey in equal measure, and they love a challenge.  They are awkward, funny, quirky, and absolutely adorable!  Keep it coming Eric and Allison. We love it all!

Who Is He:

“Food is the reason you should travel.”  Well, Mark, we agree!  After University, Mark Wiens set out to find the world’s best street food.  He has traveled the markets of Southeast Asia, stalls of Japan, and he recently spent 16 days with the street vendors of Pakistan.  Mark’s channel is absolutely huge!  With over 8 million viewers, it’s obvious that we YouTube viewers really love food…and Mark.  Mark is an unassuming and charming guy. His great big smile, love for food, and humble demeanor are endearing.  Between his YouTube personality and his incredibly informative blog, Migrationology,  it’s no wonder he has so many faithful followers.  Mark has found a beautiful wife in Thailand and settled with his new family in Bangkok, but they still travel frequently in the hunt for the best street foods in the world!

What Makes Mark Special:

Honestly, we all wish we knew Mark’s secret!  We think the secret to Mark’s success, aside from some great business savvy, is his magnetic personality.  Mark is one of the most positive personas online.  Even after over 1,100 videos on food, he still seems just as excited as he did with the first one!  Mark greets every new place and every new food adventure with gusto and genuine excitement.  Mark loves food, and we love Mark!

Travel Beans

Alex and Emma are a pair of Brits out traveling the world and documenting their “Tipsy Beans” moments.  They may or may not have a tendency to get a little inebriated while filming.  Alex is witty and his sarcasm comes at the most unexpected moments.  Emma is a doll and has been very prominent in the push for better mental health advocacy.  Emma has struggled with some depression issues, which they have well-documented in a two-part series on their channel.  Thankfully, she has received the help she needed and has come out on the other side.  She now uses their channel on occasion to express the importance of finding life and health in this world, and doing what makes you happy! They have recently started a van conversion as well, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with!

What Makes Travel Beans Special:

Alex and Emma are truly authentic.  What you see is what you get: drunk, depressed, happy, angry, sarcastic, whatever is going on, you get the true and unfiltered version from them.  They are very funny, and who doesn’t love that perfect British accent? If sarcastic and loveable Brits adventuring is your thing, Alex and Emma have 485 videos just waiting for you!

Who Is She:

Nadine is one of the oldest and best in the game.  For almost 10 years she has been traveling the globe, first as a solo traveler, then-wife, and now mother.  Nadine has been to almost 60 countries and is the travel tips queen!  She’s always got the best advice and little tricks to make your trip smoother.  Plus, she’s really funny.  Her vlog has transitioned a lot since becoming a new mother.  She posts much more of the daily grind and general lifestyle hacks, but we still can’t take our eyes off her.  Nadine has represented every big brand in the business, spoken at every travel conference, and landed all the awards.  She is the best, and yet she is humble and down to earth. We’ll watch you mom any day Nadine!

What Make Hey Nadine Special:

Nadine has been in the wanderlust business a long time, and she just knows how to be in front of the camera.  She presents great info in a funny way, and she is joyful and energetic.  She is just fun to watch.

Lexi Limitless

Lexi is a new kid on the scene who has made a huge splash!! That’s all because she has the unique distinction of holding a Guinness World Record.  Lexie was the youngest person ever to travel to all 196 countries of the world.  She accomplished this feat before her 21st birthday!  Lexi is a remarkable young woman, and that level of travel has made her wise and mature beyond her years.

What Makes Lexi Limitless Special:

This solo female traveler has literally experienced every culture on earth.  She has lived with remote African tribes and tried the world’s most nasty foods.  She is a lovely girl, with a great series of travel vlogs that cover a wide range of topics, obviously!  Her footage is surprisingly well-shot and well-edited. Lexie is just starting to roll out the videos from her years of travel, so go check her out now!

Alexander Ayling

Alex and Marko Ayling made YouTube travel content for years as the Vagabrothers.  They have now slowed on that, but Alexander is taking on a brand new adventure.  He has moved to New Zealand and bought a homestead with his wife Carrie. After a long hunt for the perfect property, they have finally found it, and the renovations have begun.  Alex and Carrie have big plans, and we can’t wait to see how it turns out!

What Makes Alexander Ayling Special:

Alex is a filmmaker at heart.  His footage is perfect. Always.  Not to mention that Alex has a very distinct narrative style to his videos.  He wants his channel to feel like a place where you come to have a good chat with an old friend.  He truly lets you in on his life and leaves you wanting more!   Catch up on Alex and Carrie’s Renovation Dream here!

Wolter’s World

Wolter’s World has carved out his own nitch in the travel world.  Unlike the rest of the famous travel bloggers, Wolter doesn’t tell you what to do in a famous destination.  He tells you what not to do!  Brilliant.  Every great traveler wants to blend in and look like a local if possible, or at least not do anything too stupid!  Wolter helps us out in this realm.  He makes sure we know the “Top Ten Things NOT to do in El Salvador,” and everywhere else!  Wolter’s World has been in the game almost 10 years too, and his video collection is extensive.  If you want to make sure you don’t have massive culture shock, have all the do’s and dont’s, and know the down and dirty for your destination, Wolter is your guy!

What Makes Wolter’s World Special:

Wolter has a special way of being able to present the good, the bad, and the ugly about a destination, in a respectful and culturally appropriate way.  He is not afraid to state the bad stuff, and we appreciate it.  Let’s be real. Every destination has its goods and bads, and any experienced traveler wants to know the less than glossy stuff before we arrive. So, we appreciate you, Wolter, keep it up!

Expert Vagabond

Matthew Karstan is a true vagabond.  His channel focuses on hiking and camping adventures and budget travel advice in some incredible and off-the-tourist-track places.  Matt has worked with everyone from Lonely Planet, to National Geographic, and Go Pro.  He excels as a travel blogger and photographer,  in print and social media. His travel blog tells exceptional stories of life on the road as a digital nomad. However, his YouTube channel is a fabulous collection of his adventures in true old-school vlogger fashion. He is genuine, experienced, and gives fantastic advice.

What Makes Expert Vagabond Special:

Matthew is just a normal guy who loves nature and loves to travel the world.  He isn’t especially eloquent, and his videos aren’t overproduced.  He just gives great footage, great advice, and especially great travel experiences, from an expert traveler who has seen it all!

Eamon and Bec

Eamon and Bec are the quintessential van-lifers… or they were.  They were traveling in Morocco when COVID hit, and they had to abandon their van  Trinity  there.  Though they did get a new van and do a few trips, COVID made life tough for these Canadians.  They soon abandoned the van in favor of a cabin in the Canadian wilderness.  They are quite the DIYers and have entertained us thoroughly with their renovation successes and disasters!  Eamon is always on the move to the next crazy antic and Bec is just along for the ride.  Her great big laugh and gentle spirit make everyone love her.  Their next adventure is to buy another Canadian property to run as an Airbnb.

What Makes Eamon and Bec Special:

E and B are another great couple that has proved during this pandemic that they could sit and do absolutely nothing, and we would still tune in every Sunday to get our fix!  We have watched them tackle everything from van conversions to home conversion, dog fostering, and more. And, we still can’t get enough. This delightful pair has over 300 vids for you to veg out on, and we know you’re gonna love them.

Rick Steves

Rick Steves is the king of all things travel-related. Period.  There are no better travel guide books on the planet! His fabulously detailed books and ridiculously nerdy audio guides have been leading us through Europe and making us snort-laugh for years! But, the YouTube videos he produces are just as good.  Rick isn’t really a vlogger in the traditional sense.  His videos are definitely professionally researched, written, filmed, and produced by a talented professional team.  They are just the right mix of fun and informative, with all the necessary information on tourist sites and local must-do items.

What Makes Rick Steves Special:

In short, the experience.  Rick has traveled Europe extensively, with multiple visits to each country.  His team of local guides, researchers, and destination experts put for the most up-to-date and interesting information and leave out the fluff!  With well over 1800 videos to peruse, there really is no better place to get all your necessary trip information.

Sailing la Vagabonde

Riley and Elayna have the world’s largest sailing YouTube channel.  These two Aussies are going through a transition though.  They recently had their second baby and sailed their last sail.  So, what is up for the crazy foursome now?  We don’t really know, but we know it will be fun!

What Makes Saling La Vagabonde Special:

We have watched their whole relationship unfold from newly-mets who had never sailed, to season professionals with two beautiful kiddos. We don’t know what is in store, but we are guaranteed to stay tuned to see!

New Travel YouTube Channels to Keep an Eye On

While we have focused most of this article on the oldies but goodies, there are some truly great channels that are just getting their start on YouTube.  For a few fresh faces in the travel industry, we suggest you subscribe to one of these awesome newcomers!

Jits into the Sunset

Tania and Adam are an Irish and English couple traveling the UK with their Sprinter van  Jitters.  They are different in the YouTube crowd.  They make travel vlogs, yes, but not all that often.  They are self-proclaimed slow travelers, who put out new videos whenever they feel like it. However, they are full of travel inspiration and well worth the wait.

What Makes Jits Special:

Adam and Tania do life van life their own way, and they don’t seem to get caught up in the travel YouTube channel game.  They make vlogs, but it doesn’t seem to rule their life.  They live on their own plane and do things in true freedom, and that’s an admirable way to live!

Lost Among Locals

Who are they: .

Ryan and Abby are a married couple from Arkansas.  They left their jobs and sold it all in early 2020: the big house, the cars, all of it! Little did they know COVID was coming. Like everyone on this list,  it changed their plans a bit, but they managed to Central America and start their world tour.  Ryan is quiet, slightly awkward, and you can tell he is the world’s nicest person.  Abby is sassy, funny, and you never know what might come out of her mouth!

Ryan and Abby are culture vultures who genuinely love to learn about history, cultural oddities, and all the things that make different people groups unique.  They are full-time travelers and digital nomads, so their version of slow travel and international living is refreshing to watch.

What Makes Lost Among Locals Special:

They traveled internationally for 12 years before leaving for full-time travel and had already experienced several amazing destinations as a pair.  So, they bring a unique blend of touristy sites juxtaposed with everyday local life and budget travel tips.  They dance with Albanians at a baby’s birthday party, play street games with old Turkish men, and score the best local foods in every destination.  COVID definitely made local interaction harder for them, as they regrettably express, but we look forward to seeing more of their off-the-beaten-path lifestyle in the future!  Keep up the good work guys!

The Vandersons

Emily and Danny feel like instant friends.  They are just so likable.  Danny and Emily set out in their van, with their cat Graham and dog Sombrita right after they got married.  They have since been traveling through Central America with their nomad pet family! Their goal is to make the full journey from Seattle to Argentina in their tiny, colorful van.  Though they are new to video making, their vlogs are heartfelt and laidback.  Danny is a lifelong BMX biker and app developer, with a surfer boy vibe and Emily is the sweetest soul. If easy-going is the vibe you are after, these two have the vids for you!

What Makes The Vandersons Special:

Emily has a narrating voice that is absolute perfection. Their footage is good, but the real perk to watching the Vandersons is that they tackle destinations you have never heard of.  Because they travel full-time, at their own pace, they get to some truly off-the-beaten-path gems that you don’t get to see in many other travel vlogs. Plus, their delightful pet-filled family is just heartwarming, and it’s awesome to see a young couple so happy, living a crazy unconventional life to the fullest!

That’s it, guys!  These are the best travel bloggers out there right now!  You have lots of new videos to binge, so you better get busy! Let us know in the comments, which of these bloggers is your favorite.

How the best travel vloggers were chosen:

Like all lists, people will wonder why they’re not on it. I’m positive I missed some good ones, but this is very loose criteria I’d be using if I were hired to cast, produce or pitch a TV show. Creators did not need to meet all criteria, but most. – Programming: Weekly dedication, quality, storytelling & individual style execution – Audience: Niche, loyalty, & YouTube friendly – Blog worthy and/or binge worthy – Does it bring a new spin to the term “travel video” or “travel show” – Channel Personality/Talent: brand recognition, hosting & entertainment value

Make awesome video with 12 Best Travel vlogging tips

Even you are a new to vlogging, these 12 Best Travel vlogging tips that will help you make an awesome video. Learn how to do a travel vlog with us now!

Are you going on a holiday soon, and want to make a video that will help you remember it? Read on for some helpful travel vlogging  tips that will help you make travel videos you'll want to watch over and over again.

1) Don't film everything

12 Best Travel vlogging tips that will help you make an awesome video

Yes, really. The first travel vlogging tip is you shouldn't film everything you experience on your trip. I understand that sometimes you don't want to miss a single moment. I've been there and done that. When I returned from one of my trips, I had over a hundred clips I didn't really want to use in the end -  clips of some food I ate, a video tour of my accommodation, my plane ride and more.

I'm not saying that those clips are bad. They're nice clips and they capture the moment, but I personally felt that they're not interesting memories that I want to make a vlog of. Also, I spent so time glued to my camera trying to film everything, that I didn't really live in the moment.

So set aside some time to be clear on what sort of video(s) you want to make. This way, you'll save a lot of time, camera battery, and you'll have a better experience travelling overall.

2) Centre your vlogs around an activity or place

2. Even you are a new to vlogging, these 12 Best Travel vlogging tips that will help you make an awesome video.

There's many different directions your video can take. Many people do it chronologically (usually day to day vlogs ). However, I've found that videos that are centred around a place or activity are a lot more interesting than a video that covers whole day.

If you find a place you really enjoyed spending your time in, you should make a video of that. If you found yourself loving a lot of the food a country has to offer, why not make a food review vlog ?  Or if you're travelling to shop, you could do a haul video of everything you bought.

3) Keep your videos short and succinct

3. Even you are a new to vlogging, these 12 Best Travel vlogging tips that will help you make an awesome video. Learn how to do a travel vlog with us now!

The best timing for videos is under three minutes, as many people start to lose interest if the video is longer than that. Also, talking segments should not be longer than 30 seconds. I know 30 seconds doesn't seem like much, but people are impatient on social media and are quick to move on if a video doesn't hold their interest.

It also helps to keep in mind that your end goal is to make a video that is a couple of minutes long. When you remember that, you will naturally take shorter videos that capture the essence of what you're trying to show. Additionally, consider utilizing a free online video editor to streamline the process. This tool can help you efficiently trim and arrange clips, ensuring your final video remains engaging within its desired time frame.

At the end of the trip, you should have a lot of 3-7 second long clips that you compile to make the finished product. It may seem like you have bits and pieces, but you will thank yourself as shorter clips will save you so much time during editing.

4) Don't be afraid to show more of yourself

4. Even you are a new to vlogging, these 12 Best Travel vlogging tips that will help you make an awesome video. Learn how to do a travel vlog with us now!

To be honest with you, I still feel camera shy plenty of times. I know how difficult it can be to get in front of a camera, especially when there's a lot of other people around.

But remember that you're the backbone of your vlog . You should definitely talk to the camera and give your own perspective on your trip.

Something that helps me speak better to the camera is to pretend I'm talking to a really good friend. That always keeps me smiling, and makes me more natural in front of the camera.

  5) Include other people in your vlog

5. Even you are a new to vlogging, these 12 Best Travel vlogging tips that will help you make an awesome video. Learn how to do a travel vlog with us now!

Vlogs always get more interesting when there's other people included. You can include your travel buddies, or some of the local people you've met on your trip.

Pro-tip: Ask them a question .

What most people do is point a camera at their friends, who then wave back and pose at the camera. Try engaging your friends instead, and ask them what they think about the place they're in, or what they liked most about the trip so far. That definitely adds more flavour and personality to your video.

6) Show things from your point of view

6. Even you are a new to vlogging, these 12 Best Travel vlogging tips that will help you make an awesome video. Learn how to do a travel vlog with us now!

The main difference between a travel  vlog and a normal travel video is that a travel  vlog focuses a lot on you and your personality. You can make your vlog even better by adding some video clips taken from your point of view.

6.1 Even you are a new to vlogging, these 12 Best Travel vlogging tips that will help you make an awesome video. Learn how to do a travel vlog with us now!

It is a great way to engage your audience and make them feel like they are there with you.

7) Start your video with an establishing shot

7 Even you are a new to vlogging, these 12 Best Travel vlogging tips that will help you make an awesome video. Learn how to do a travel vlog with us now!

An establishing shot is a video clip that shows the big picture of the place you're in. Often times, people spend so much time taking videos of the things they do and the people they're with, that they forget to take videos which establish where they are.

For example, if you're in Tokyo, a good establishing shot would be a view of the city skyline. Adding such a clip to the beginning of your vlog makes it look a lot more professional and sleek.

8) Keep your video steady, not shaky

8 Even you are a new to vlogging, these 12 Best Travel vlogging tips that will help you make an awesome video. Learn how to do a travel vlog with us now!

Shaky video is something that stops people from watching your video longer. The occasional shake when walking down a path is fine, but a video that that constantly jerky is bound to put people off.

You can reduce shakiness by walking slower and making a conscious effort to keep your camera steady. Alternatively, you could use video stabilisation tools found in video editing software or apps, such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Emulsio . I find that reducing the speed of the video where possible also helps reduce the shakiness a lot.

Pro-tip: If you can, invest money into equipment that will help you stabilise your video.

If you don't mind spending some money, you can buy a handheld stabiliser for your phone or compact camera. Alternatively, you could purchase a camera with in-built image stabilisation .

9) Avoid filming with a lot of wind or noise in the background

9. Even you are a new to vlogging, these 12 Best Travel vlogging tips that will help you make an awesome video. Learn how to do a travel vlog with us now!

Where possible, try to vlog at places that are not too noisy. I've filmed at a windy beach before, and it was so difficult to salvage that clip. I had to trim away most of it, and the part that remained was extremely unpleasant to listen to.

A good idea would be to film a test clip, and immediately play it back to check the sound. If the clip sounds noisy, try talking louder. If that still doesn't work, you should try to find a more conducive place to film.

Pro-tip: Use a wind muff

People who don't mind spending money to improve sound quality could purchase a wind muff for their camera. It is like a little tuft of fur you stick on your camera's microphone. It doesn't reduce sound quality, and it virtually removes the annoying sound that is produced with a strong breeze.

10) Choose good music that accentuates the mood of your video

10. Even you are a new to vlogging, these 12 Best Travel vlogging tips that will help you make an awesome video. Learn how to do a travel vlog with us now!

It's pretty important to have music that fits your video, as the music really has an impact on your viewers. Try to choose music that accentuates the vibes you want to bring across.

For example, you'd definitely want to use rock or pop music to get adrenaline rushing when people watch your bungee jumping vlog . Or you might want to use chill tropical beats to make a cool video of your time at the beach.

The  YouTube audio library  is a great place to get free music. SoundCloud has a better variety of music, but not all songs can be downloaded for free.

11) Put your vlog aside for a while then re-evaluate

11. Even you are a new to vlogging, these 12 Best Travel vlogging tips that will help you make an awesome video. Learn how to do a travel vlog with us now!

Once you're done editing your travel  vlog , set it aside for a day or two before you look at it again. I usually do this, and I always find things to improve the second time I watch it. By doing this, you refresh your mind, and it seems like you're watching with a new perspective when it is time to re- evalutate . This is a great technique that you should definitely use.

12) Watch other travel vlogs

12. Even you are a new to vlogging, these 12 Best Travel vlogging tips that will help you make an awesome video. Learn how to do a travel vlog with us now!

Finally, the most important travel vloggin tip: Watch other travel vlogs .

There's a whole lot of vlogs out there on YouTube and they are great learning material for improving your own skills. I learned most of the tips I'm sharing on this list from all of the travel vlogs I've watched in the past.

If you have time to spare, I recommend that you watch popular travel vloggers such as Hey Nadine, Mr Ben Brown, or Fun For Louis.

When you watch them, you will be able to see how the different tips I've talked about come into play in their videos, and you will gain ideas and inspiration for your next vlog .

I'm going to leave you with one of the first few vlogs I did. It is a vlog of my most favourite place in Vietnam, and it is where I snapped all these pictures at. Enjoy!

With that, I have reached the end of my list of travel vlogging tips. I hope this list helped you see that good travel vlogs can be done even with just a cell phone. All you need is to put in some effort and follow the tips I gave you.

How To Create Engaging Travel Videos

There’s a lot of travel-based content on YouTube.

If you want yours to stand out, you can’t expect to just throw together some footage and hit publish.

Instead, here are some key ideas to help your travel videos be more memorable:

  • Hook your audience with your footage: The first 3 seconds of your videos are crucial. You can use dramatic footage, an unknown landscape, fly over a majestic landscape or use captivating audio. Anything that’s ‘out of the norm’ will do the trick.
  • Ask questions: Travel videos are generally one-sided. The content creator presents content and the viewers watch and listen. Asking questions makes viewers active participants in your videos. The more engaging the question, the better. Asking, “Can you travel around the world using $100?” is a more engaging question than, “Did you know you can travel on a budget?”
  • Use teasers: At various points during your video, you can tease what’s coming next in that video (or in future ones). This gives people a reason to keep watching.

Travel Planning And Research

Planning and research play a huge part in creating engaging travel videos.

When planning, the first thing to consider is how you’ll differentiate your travel content.

Most travel videos explore common tourist areas, markets and well-known landscapes.

What if you go off the beaten path? Could you show your audience unique and lesser-known destinations or experiences? Sharing hidden gems will make your content different.

Are there any local festivals or hidden culinary delights your viewers must try?

You can also create travel itineraries for your viewers.

Here you’re not only providing your audience with visual walkthroughs of attractions. You’re also telling them the best order to visit them.

If you can create plans for different numbers of days in a city, (for example, 3 days in Paris, 5 days in Sicily) that will be even better.

How To Capture Great Travel Footage

Another way to stand out is to have variety in your travel footage.

Most people show a zoomed-in version of whatever they’re filming (and stick to it throughout the video). Instead, try this: don’t always stay too close to your subject.

People love seeing different points of view. You achieve this through varying shot lengths.

You might want to start with close-ups of food, crafts or architecture. Then, zoom out to show the big picture.

You can even have talking head videos (where a person is talking on camera). Then at various moments, you overlay B-roll footage of an attraction you’re talking about.

Two other crucial factors are lighting and audio.

Natural lighting is the best type of lighting. Usually, the golden hour (when the sun is rising and setting) offers excellent opportunities to film travel videos.

Your audio is another critical factor.

Use a portable microphone if possible to capture the best quality sound.

This little touch goes a long way when filming outdoors – especially if the video has background noise (including wind, waves, or crowds).

Increasing Audience Engagement

Creating YouTube content means you’re not publishing videos for yourself. You’re doing it primarily for your audience.

You want people to engage time and time again with your content. This engagement can become the foundation of a travel community.

Over time, you want your viewers to look forward to your content. You want them to watch, like, subscribe and comment.

As you build a community of like-minded people, ensure you have calls to action in your videos. These should match whatever you’re trying to achieve.

For example, if you want to create a “travel hacks” course, ask people to join your email list or follow you on Instagram to learn more.

If you want them to subscribe, be clear and explicit about it.

Don’t assume it will happen without asking.

Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or just going on your first solo trip, you have knowledge you can share with the world.

The above ideas will help you get started creating content others will find valuable.

It’s time to grab your camera, pick your next destination and start filming.

Safe travels!

Tom Brady Launches Vlog Series with a Behind-the-Scenes Look at His Trip to the Paris Olympics with Daughter Vivian

The NFL legend is going for the gold in content creation!

Tom Brady/Instagram

Tom Brady has a special guest to kick off his brand new vlog — his daughter Vivian Lake !

On Wednesday, Aug. 14, the retired NFL quarterback, 47, released his new vlog series, Last Week With Tom . Produced by his media company, Shadow Lion , the series opener shows viewers how he spent his week in Paris for the 2024 Olympics !

In the roughly 9-minute debut, a brief montage of trip highlights plays before diving into Brady’s time with Vivian, 11.

“What an unbelievable three days that was in Paris,” he says to the camera while on a private plane. “Six different venues, nine different events that we saw. Got a chance to have my little girly girl here with me.”

Brady shares Vivian and son Benjamin Rein with ex-wife Gisele Bündchen . He also shares son John "Jack" Edward Thomas with his ex-girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan .

Continuing in his vlog, Brady said it’s “hard to share” such great moments in “10-second social clips, or 20-second social clips.”

“So, that’s why we’re doing some of this longer stuff, and I’m gonna bring you guys along with me, and I hope you guys really enjoy it,” he said.

The video then shows “6 days earlier,” with Brady and Vivian vacationing in Italy before heading to Paris.

Their cameraman captures them spending time together on a mega yacht as business mogul Michael Rubin makes a cameo playing catch in the distance on a jet ski.

After cliff jumping and diving into the sea with Vivian, the father and daughter debate on who got the gold, silver or bronze out of him, Vivian and their cameraman — who took a break from his duties to jump from a cliff as well.

Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

Next, they arrive in Paris and while en route, they discuss what Olympic athletes they want to see and share their scoring predictions.

“Look, after the gold medal, it really doesn’t matter,” Brady jokes. “Let’s just be honest. It’s like, go for the gold. Believe me — none of these guys came to get the silver.”

Their first stop at the Olympic Games was to watch a tennis match, where they sat with Ed Bastian, the CEO of Delta Air Lines. Next was beach volleyball where Brady took time to talk with Dawn Staley , WNBA legend and head coach for South Carolina's women's basketball team.

Day two was reserved for sweet treats in Tom and Vivian's hotel room before checking out the swimming competitions. On day three, Brady took his daughter out for hot chocolate before they watched the women’s gymnastics competition.

The PEOPLE Puzzler crossword is here! How quickly can you solve it? Play now!

Their video showed them watching Simone Biles and taking photos with Suni Lee .

Afterward, they visited Team USA House where they hung out with several NBA players including Jayson Tatum , LeBron James and Anthony Davis — who Vivian said made her dad “look small.”

Last Week With Tom “promises to deliver unique insights, personal moments, and the kind of authenticity that only Tom Brady can offer,” per a press release.

It adds, "Each episode is crafted to ensure a captivating viewer experience giving a behind-the-scenes look into Tom's life, his challenges, and his triumphs in the most personal and compelling way. Viewers can expect exclusive BTS content, personal insights and engaging stories."
