The Pink Streets & Pinellas Point

The pink streets of st. petersburg and the pinellas point neighborhood.

The Pink Streets is a desirable neighborhood at the southernmost tip of St Petersburg and Pinellas County. The name “The Pink Streets” comes because yes, the streets are actually pink!  Not hot pink but a muted soft reddish-pink that actually goes well with the surrounding landscape.  This neighborhood is surrounded by water and features a large waterfront park.  I consider this a little known area of St. Pete to find a waterfront home at a value – prices are generally lower here than in north St. Petersburg, and often the elevation of the homes in Pinellas Point is higher. That means – you guessed it – some homes here require no flood insurance. (Not that everyone near water shouldn’t carry optional flood coverage.)

Pinellas Point Real Estate

So you may be wondering – why are the streets pink?  Back in the 1920′s, the Pinellas Point Pink Streets development was dreamed up by a gentleman named George Cook. Cook’s Murok Development Company had visions for an upscale neighborhood that would be grander than any other development in the area, and ordered the pink streets because no one else had them. They were thought very chic and caused a sensation.  Actually, Cook’s plans for the Pinellas Point neighborhood were much grander than what actually was built.  An old plat map of his development shows the existing streets and neighborhood, but also shows proposed additions, made up of fill that was to have extended out a third of a mile past the current waterfront, out into Tampa Bay. There would have been canals and a lot more houses, probably looking something like areas of  Venetian Isles  do today. But in 1926, the St. Petersburg boom period was over, and not only was the additional fill never completed, but much of the Pink Streets development area sat empty for years. Many of the early investors in the Pink Streets who purchased lots fell into bankruptcy, however over the years, many different styles of homes were built in the Pink Streets giving it the wide diversity of architecture we see today.

Over time, lots were purchased and homes were built. But regardless of the type of house, the area residents have always loved the Pink Streets, the lush trees in the neighborhood, the curvy roads, the essence of being different from the rest of the city. And so, in the 1980′s, when the old concrete streets were so badly cracked and patched that you risked your car’s health to even drive on them, it’s not surprising that residents pushed the city to ensure that, when it came time to repave their streets, they’d be paved in pink concrete again. The streets pink tone really helps to avoid the sun’s glare and reflection and absorb heat!

The Pink Streets neighborhood runs between about 10th Street and 21st Street, just south of Pinellas Point Drive South. Some of the roads dead-end with a view overlooking the bay and the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. There are some gorgeous older homes, along with some fine newer construction homes! It’s a nice drive if you’d like to check out a waterfront community you didn’t know was there – and it’s really only 10 minutes from Downtown St. Pete – I’ve clocked it!

Every outfit Taylor Swift wears on the Eras Tour, ranked

• Taylor Swift has officially wrapped the European leg of the Eras Tour.
• So far, she has worn over 60 different outfits onstage on tour, with unique styles for each album.
• BI's music team ranked them from worst to best, with the original "Lover" bodysuit in the top spot.

Taylor Swift has wrapped up the European leg of the Eras Tour with a five-show stint in London.

After making stops across North America, South America, Australia, and Asia, Swift arrived in Europe following the release of her latest album, " The Tortured Poets Department ," armed with additions to both the setlist and her wardrobe. (She'll return to the US and Canada for the final leg in October.)

The Eras Tour is arranged as a retrospective of Swift's career, spanning nearly two decades and 11 studio albums . Swift does several outfit changes during a single concert, and each segment has a unique aesthetic to match the music in question.

Keep reading to see every outfit Swift has worn onstage, ranked from worst to best.

63. The surprise song dress in yellow

Each night during the Eras Tour, Swift performs an acoustic set with two surprise songs .

The dress for this segment is designed for a quick change; Swift slips it over her outfit from the previous segment (before it was "1989," now it's "Tortured Poets") while still onstage. It makes sense for the dress to be simple. But it doesn't make sense for the fabric to be the same color as Big Bird.

Frankly, the yellow dress is ugly. It's way too yellow.

62. The surprise song dress in orange

It's too orange.

The green dress isn't ugly, but it's not especially notable either.

60. The surprise song dress in pink

The original pink variant still isn't anything to write home about, but generally speaking, Swift looks good in pink.

I do appreciate that Swift eschewed the butterfly sleeves and unnecessary ruffles for this updated variant, but this dress still looks like it came from Forever 21.

58. The surprise song dress in blue

Swift wore blue versions of several classic tour looks for the night she announced "1989 (Taylor's Version)."

Blue is the best option for a surprise song dress, partially because the color complements Swift's eyes that put those Georgia stars to shame  and partially because it reminds me of Sharpay Evans singing "Bop to the Top."

57. The surprise song dress in the other shade of blue

You know the drill by now. This version of the dress is fine. Mostly it just looks simpler and cheaper than we'd expect from a billionaire — likely an intentional choice aligned with Swift's masterful PR strategy .

56. The "Speak Now" ballgown that's growing mushrooms

The flowers plopped all over this dress are flimsy and weird-looking. I would be glad to never see it again.

55. "1989" (Europe's Version)

Swift debuted a new collection of designer looks in Nanterre, France , the first stop on the tour's European leg.

The new style for "1989" is a sequined top and ombré skirt pairing by Roberto Cavalli, much like the skater skirts from the album's original era .

There are dozens of color combinations that Swift has worn so far — blue and pink, orange and purple, yellow and red like her boyfriend's football team — but none of them are particularly chic. The silhouette aims to evoke nostalgia but ends up feeling outdated.

54. The "Red" romper

Honestly, Swift's outfits never slay during the "Red" segment, but the ombré romper is the worst offender. It's not terrible, but it doesn't do anything for her.

53. The "All Too Well" jacket

Swift dons glittery, floor-grazing outerwear to perform " All Too Well (10 Minute Version) ," which helps make the "Red" segment a bit more sophisticated — though it doesn't match the somber vibe of the song. I much preferred the sleek look that Swift wore to perform the song on "Saturday Night Live."

52. The "22" shirt

There are six versions of this shirt, inspired by an outfit worn by Swift in the "22" music video : "A lot going on at the moment," " We are never getting back together like ever ," "Who's Taylor Swift anyway? Ew," "This is not Taylor's Version," " I bet you think about me ," and, most recently, " I knew you were trouble ." The shirt is always paired with a black bowler hat.

This look doesn't exactly scream high fashion, but it gets extra points for sentimentality. The hat is the antithesis of cool, but it gets extra points for the cuteness factor, since Swift always gives it to a special fan in the crowd .

51. The "Fearless" dress in gold

This is a custom Roberto Cavalli dress , embellished with Swarovski crystals, but somehow it looks like a stringy array of ramen noodles .

50. The "Fearless" dress in silver

Silver is slightly better than gold, but the tassels still look like octopus tentacles.

49. The cupcake-shaped "Speak Now" ballgown

It's too puffy!

It's too pink!

47. "Midnights" in pink and purple

This is a much nicer shade of pink.

46. "Midnights" in blue and purple

Blue is a natural fit for the " Midnights " segment, especially because the standard album cover features a light-blue font.

45. "Midnights" with extra sparkles

This version of the T-shirt dress is slightly elevated, with multicolored gems scattered across the fabric.

44. The "Lavender Haze" look

The fuzzy coat that opens the "Midnights" segment is a reference to the "Lavender Haze" music video . This connection is most obvious when Swift wears the opalescent T-shirt dress underneath.

It kind of looks like Swift skinned a Muppet to make this coat, but don't worry: she confirmed in a behind-the-scenes clip  that she would never wear real fur.

43. The "Karma" jacket in blue

Blue-on-blue is a logical combo for the closing number, if a little predictable.

Chaotic, yet fun.

The contrast between Swift's bright skin, dark-blue bodysuit, and hot-pink fringe makes this the best option for the show's closing number.

40. The "Tortured Poets" gown

I assume the new outfit for "The Tortured Poets Department" segment is designed to look like a "crumpled-up piece of paper lying here," evoking both the tragedy of " All Too Well " and the dark-academia aesthetic of the album itself.

It's a solid concept (and the gown's neckline is divine), but ultimately, I can't support Swift's obsession with high-low mullet dresses . I thought we left this trend behind in 2010.

Worse still, the lyrics scrawled on the fabric ("I love you, it's ruining my life," from the single " Fortnight ," and " Who's afraid of little old me? You should be ") make it look like Swift is wearing a high-school theater costume, not a couture Vivienne Westwood gown.

39. The "Tortured Poets" military jacket

Swift adds a military jacket atop her "Tortured Poets" gown to sing " The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived ," an impassioned performance that casts Swift as a soldier on the front lines of a battlefield. The look is still a little corny, but at least it fully embraces the theatrical costume vibe.

38. "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart"

After singing "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived," Swift and her dancers perform a brief skit, in which Swift is forced to strip off her dress, put on heels, and smile through the pain.

The onstage outfit change yields a bralette and matching high-waisted bottoms, subsequently topped with a duster. The different color combos include black and gold, white with silver accents, and sparkly gray with a metallic jacket.

These ensembles recall the jackets and two-piece sets from The 1989 World Tour, combined with the ringmaster motif from the "Red" era.

At the time, Swift was battling an eating disorder and often feared she might faint onstage.

While the new Eras Tour outfit is relatively simple, this callback adds an extra layer of poignance to Swift's performance of " I Can Do It With a Broken Heart ."

37. "Folklore" in yellow

The tiered and embroidered " Folklore " outfits, custom-made by Alberta Ferretti , are almost always winners. The flowy style makes Swift look like a friendly witch, much like her recent collaborator Florence Welch , which is a compliment.

However, the yellow one doesn't suit the era's aesthetic one bit. The mismatch is especially glaring during " My Tears Ricochet ," which is intended to parallel a funeral procession .

This dress was likely designed to evoke the fusion of "Folklore" and "Evermore" into one segment, which came with Swift's newly altered setlist for the European leg. But still, as we previously established, yellow should not be in Swift's color palette. It doesn't suit her.

36. "Folklore" in pink

Swift unveiled a berry-pink rendition of the woodsy "Folklore" gown during her second show in France.

The shade is stunning in a vacuum, but much like my previous complaint, it's the wrong color for the sister albums segment of the show.

The songs that populate "Folklore" and "Evermore" are full of yearning, betrayal, regret, depression, and even murder . These are not the hot-girl party bops of "1989" or "Midnights," which call for brighter hues and more pizzazz.

And if you think I'm being too nitpicky, I'll kindly remind you that Swift has embraced each album's individual color theory, down to the official Eras Tour branding . I'm simply following her lead.

35. The classic "Evermore" dress

For the majority of the US leg, Swift only had one look for the " Evermore " segment: a mustard-yellow dress that screams cottagecore. It's cute but nothing particularly special, and it did grow a little dull over time.

Note: There is a slightly less saturated version of this dress, but they're so similar, they don't warrant separate entries on this list.

34. The bronze "Evermore" dress

Swift has only worn this alternate "Evermore" dress a handful of times, but it made for a nice change of pace — and the deep, sparkling bronze compliments the moody, wintery vibe of songs like "'Tis the Damn Season," "Champagne Problems," and "Tolerate It." 

33. The "Speak Now" ballgown in gold

The ballgown is a callback to the Speak Now World Tour, when Swift wore sparkly gowns while singing " Enchanted ." For the Eras Tour, Swift pumped up the drama with voluminous skirts and embroidered jewels.

The gold version is fine but it does look slightly cheaper than its counterparts, like an extravagant prom dress. 

32. The "Speak Now" ballgown in silver

As opposed to muted gold, silver offers a lovely contrast with the purple visuals of "Speak Now."

31. The "Speak Now" ballgown in pink

The baby-pink version of the "Speak Now" ballgown is the best among the original set of options, with its flattering neckline and strips of sparkles that resemble falling rain.

30. The "Fearless" dress in black and gold

The newest "Fearless" look, which Swift debuted in Milan, is a solid, mid-tier choice. It's much better than the era's stringy options, though it doesn't measure up to the original fringed minidress.

29. The "Fearless" dress with metallic fringe

Swift debuted this version of the "Fearless" mini in France, gleefully tossing her body around to show off the shimmery fringe. Again, it's a mid-tier option, but definitely more fun and youthful than its Italian counterpart.

28. The "Lover" bodysuit with purple tassels
