With an early start, you will be collected from the hotel for a scenic coach transfer to Cape Jervis taking in the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula with its vineyards, coastal views and rolling hills. On arrival, board the SeaLink ferry for the 45-minute crossing to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Here you will board your luxury SeaLink coach and your local driver/guide will take you on a tour of South Australia’s premier nature-based tourism destination.

Visit Seal Bay Conservation Park where you will be taken on a guided beach walk with an experienced guide and be amongst a colony of rare Australian sea lions. Get up close and see these wild creatures frolic and laze about – a truly amazing and unforgettable experience. Enjoy a delicious 2-course lunch at an Aussie Pub before visiting the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park to feed some kangaroos and get up close to the Kangaroo Island Koalas while listening to the Keeper talk about the cuddly mammals. There is a photo opportunity to hold a Koala for an additional cost (additional cost).

Later, spend the afternoon in the Flinders Chase National Park, which was devastated in the worst fire to ever hit the island in January 2020. You’ll see that the regeneration of the native bush occurs so quickly after the event and there will be many opportunities to take photos. As you travel through the park, keep an eye out for echidnas, wallabies, reptiles, and koalas. See the rugged coastline from walks around Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch. Remarkable Rocks provide great photographic opportunities, and the Admirals Arch boardwalk takes you down a rugged cliff face to reveal the spectacular rock archway, a natural nursery and safe haven for playful Long-nosed Fur Seals. There is also a possibility that you will see more kangaroos and wallabies on your way to your overnight accommodation.

Please note: – Itinerary is subject to change without notice – Koala holding will not be available during hot summer days and days of extreme weather. Our general height and age restrictions is 140cm or over 12 years. Other conditions may apply.

Uber drivers strike for better pay, passengers warned of delays.

Sowaibah Hanifie

Hundreds of Uber drivers have gone offline and are holding protests across the country, calling for better pay.

The strike action is being held across capital cities on Monday in response to Uber reducing fares by an average of 3 per cent nationally.

But some drivers say the changes to the way fares are calculated will mean fares are being reduced by 30 per cent in some locations.

Large groups of drivers have been seen in Brisbane and at Adelaide and Melbourne airports, and it is unclear how long the action will last.

Adelaide and Brisbane airport passengers were told to expect delays if they ordered cars through Uber.

Protesters at Adelaide airport were encouraging Uber drivers arriving to cancel their preplanned trips and join the strike.

Passengers report Uber fares are doubling because there are fewer cars on the road.

Drivers said some fares had gone down by up to 30 per cent.

Rideshare Network Secretary and Uber driver Shane Millsom compared the rideshare platform’s tactics to exploitation, making it impossible for drivers to earn a living.

“They haven’t (just) reduced passenger fares, they’ve reduced driver pay as well,” Millsom said.

“Uber is absolutely aware that many drivers have no other choice.

“Rideshare drivers are not faceless businesses; they are human beings who deserve to be treated with dignity and respect,” he said.

Uber drivers were expected to receive a pay rise of up to $5.39 per hour, or up to $95 a week when the Closing Loopholes Bill comes into effect in November, according to the Australian Council of Trade Unions.

The bill sets minimum standards for workers on digital labour platforms.

But with Uber reducing fares, any benefit to drivers will be limited, if it is seen at all.

Millsom said drivers had independently chosen to take action and the network was not an organiser of the strike.

Some have indicated they will not use the Uber app until their rates are improved, he said.

Uber drivers previously told 7NEWS they were working more than 12 hours a day, sometimes living in their cars because they were struggling to meet their living expenses on low wages.

Millsom said drivers had to pay for their own insurance, which has quadrupled over the last five years, as well as cope with the increasing cost of petrol.

Uber drivers protesting in Melbourne.

Uber reported in May it earned $US1.4 billion before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation in the first quarter of 2024 alone.

“Our earnings are close to minimum wage,” Millsom said in response.

The locations to see price changes in Australia are Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Newcastle, Geelong, Hobart, Darwin, Toowoomba, Wollongong and Wagga Wagga.

An email from Uber to drivers on August 21, when the changes came into effect, said the new price calculation would factor in the origin of the trip and time of day.

It said there would be no change to minimum fare rates or how surge pricing was calculated.

Uber told 7NEWs the decision was to “match riders with the best ride at the best price”.

“As always, riders will be able to see the full cost of the fare upfront before requesting a trip. They will also receive a full breakdown of these new fare components in their receipt by email and in-app,” a spokesperson said.

“This new approach will enable Uber to best balance both sides of our marketplace – making sure there are enough drivers in the right places to provide a seamless experience for riders. “

The Transport Workers Union (TWU) said from Monday, gig workers have access to the Fair Work Commission as part of the Closing Loopholes Bill, giving the union and workers the ability to apply for minimum wages.

The union is calling on Uber drivers to participate in consultation groups discussing proposed changes to the bill.

“These are world-first laws that we intend to enact as quickly as possible to establish a safety net for transport gig workers,” TWU National Secretary Michael Kaine said.

“Consultation with rideshare drivers and the industry has begun and can now be formalised through the Road Transport Advisory Group that will inform the new road transport Expert Panel of the Commission to set appropriate standards.“

Millsom said unless change happens, many drivers will leave the industry because of the company’s price changes.
