30 BEST Things to do in Oradea + MAP

Oradea is an incredible city, famous for its art-nouveau architecture, spa resorts and friendly people. With a vibrant nightlife, awesome restaurants and cultural events throughout the year, Oradea is the perfect destination to spend a few days when in Romania.

As a Romanian, I’m ashamed to say that I only visited Oradea this year. It’s been on my bucket list for a long time, but I always postponed my visit.

Piata Unirii Oradea, Union Square Oradea

I heard many great things about Oradea over the years. People were fascinated with its architecture and its beauty. During my visit, I realised that Oradea is certainly one of the most beautiful cities in Romania . I feel in love with its charm and and stunning architecture.

In this article I want to share with you the top things to do in Oradea. I’ve included some unmissable tourist attractions, as well as a few places to eat and relax. Oradea is the kind of destination that will surprise you at every step, leaving you in awe.

1. Oradea tourist attractions MAP

The good thing about Oradea is that most tourist attractions are located within the city center. Click on the map below to see all the tourist attractions .

things to do in Oradea, Oradea tourist attractions map

2. Top Things to do in Oradea

Oradea can be easily visited in 2 days. However, if you really want to feel the city’s vibe and explore everything it has to offer, I recommend spending at least 3 days in Oradea. There’s plenty to do and you can also visit some nearby destinations such as Rimetea, Felix Baths and Suncuis.

Below are the top tourist attractions in Oradea!

2.1 Ciuperca Hill (Mushroom Hill)

Ciuperca Hill Oradea, Mushroom Hill Oradea, Dealul Ciuperca Oradea, Oradea viewpoint

One of the places to see in Oradea is Ciuperca Hill, an incredible viewpoint offering the best city views. The hill is easily accessible by car, but you can also walk to it.

Here you can find a restaurant, Ciuperca Restaurant , and a viewing platform from where you can admire the city. I recommend visiting this place at sunset, when the sky has pink and orange hues and the city lights cover the panorama.

We liked this place so much that we visited it twice. It’s a romantic destination and a nice place to relax after a day of sightseeing.

2.2 The Roman-Catholic Episcopal Palace and Roman-Catholic Basilica

Roman Catholic Basilica Oradea, Bazilica Romano Catholica Oradea

Also known as the Baroque Palace of Oradea, the Roman-Catholic Episcopal Palace was founded in 1762 when a famous Viennese architect designed the architecture. The palace has exactly 365 windows, symbolising the days of the year and 120 rooms.

The Roman Catholic Basilica is an impressive building and one of the most photogenic places in Oradea. Also known as the Cathedral Basilica of St. Mary, this Catholic Cathedral was built between 1752 and 1780.

We spent a few minutes admiring both buildings and taking photos. The place is surrounded by greenery and is very peaceful. It’s definitely one of the places to visit in Oradea.

2.3 Unirii Square

Piata Unirii Oradea, Union Square Oradea

My favorite place in Oradea is Unirii Square. This is a place surrounded by unique buildings, landmarks and beautiful sights. Located right on the edge of Crisul Repede River, Unirii Square is Oradea’s soul.

The locals come here to relax and spend time with their friends at terraces while tourists come here for this place’s architecture and history. Some of the prominent buildings here are the Moon Cathedral, The Black Eagle Palace, St. Nicholas Cathedral and more.

2.4 The Black Eagle Palace

Oradea Black Eagle Palace, Palatul Vulturul Negru Oraeda, oradea art nouveau building

One of Oradea’s landmarks is the Black Eagle Palace, built at the beginning of the 1900s. The building has a remarkable secession architecture (a branch of Art Nouveau). Inside the palace, there are a few restaurants and shops as well as the famous Back Eagle stained glass.

When visiting the palace, I recommend going inside the building and exploring the passage connecting Unirii Square with two other streets. The passage is covered in glass and on the ceiling you can admire numerous beautiful floral motifs.

Oradea Black Eagle Palace, Palatul Vulturul Negru Oraeda, oradea art nouveau building

The Black Eagle Palace is one of the must-see places in Oradea and one of the most beautiful buildings in Romania. Its architecture is unique and the building perfectly complements Unirii Square’s beauty.

2.5 Deutsch House

Deutsch House Oradea facade, Casa Deutsch Oradea

Another beautiful example of Art-Nouveau Architecture is Deutsch House, located near Unirii Square. This house used to be home to a glass and lamp store. During a process of restoration in 1970, the entire building was demolished except the facade.

Nowadays, Deutsch House is yet another beautiful architectural landmark in Oradea. While taking a walk on Vasile Alecsandri Street, make sure to stop for a few minutes and admire it.

2.6 Try a delicious dessert at Ice Roze Cafe

oasis travel oradea

I have to thank my mother for telling me about this awesome cafe. You simply have to try their ice-cream (my favorite one was the salted caramel ice-cream) and their delicious cakes. I tried the Snickers cake and it was simply amazing!

If you have a sweet tooth, this is the place to be! Choose your favorite cake and enjoy it while relaxing on the cafe’s terrace.

2.7 The Orthodox Synagogue

Orthodox Synagogue Oradea - Singagoga Ortodoxa Oradea

If you’re looking for impressive buildings in Oradea, you have to stop by the Orthodox Synagogue. It was built at the end of the 1800s and nowadays is one of the best-preserved buildings in the city.

For a small donation, I visited the inside of the synagogue and I was impressed by its beauty. When I visited, there were many people praying inside, so I only admired the synagogue from the entrance.

2.8 The Moon Church

Moon Church Oradea, Biserica cu luna Oradea

The Moon Church gets its name from the unique mechanism located on top of the tower that shows the lunar phases. The church was finished in 1790 and it was built in late provincial Baroque style.

The Moon Church can be best admired from across the street, but I also recommend visiting it inside. The interior is designed according to Orthodox specifics.

2.9 St. Nicholas Cathedral

Saint Nicholas Cathedral Oradea

The Greek-Catholic Cathedral of St. Nicholas is one of the top things to see in Oradea. It’s located in Unirii Square, close to many other attractions and I recommend you put aside at least 10 minutes to visit it.

Apart from its beautiful exterior architecture, the cathedral is extremely beautiful inside.

2.10 The Greek-Catholic Highschool

Greek Catholic Highschool Oradea, Liceul Greco-Catolic Oradea

Right behind the St. Nicholas Cathedral is a beautiful building home to the Greek-Catholic Highschool. The building was built in a neo-Romanian style and during spring is surrounded by flowers.

2.11 Palace of Greek-Catholic Bishopric

Palace of Greek Catholic Bishopric Oradea

One of the top tourist attractions in Oradea is the Palace of Greek-Catholic Bishopric, located in Unirii Square or Union Square. The palace is undergoing a process of rehabilitation and it cannot be visited at the moment. However, you can admire its exterior architecture from Unirii Square.

The palace was built in renaissance style, but it also has Rococo and Baroque elements.

2.12 Oradea City Hall

oasis travel oradea

When I visited Oradea (Spring 2021), the City Hall was in restoration and the facade was not visible. However, the building is an important historical site that was built in 1903, under the supervision of Rimanoczy.

It’s located right on the edge of the river and the tower is 50-meters tall. Tourists can climb to the top of the tower and admire some of the city’s most spectacular views.

2.13 Crisul Repede Riverside

Oradea river

One of the best ways to relax in Oradea is to take a walk along the river. You can start at Union Square or anywhere you want. There are several beautiful bridges over the river and the views are worth it.

2.14 Evangelical Church Oradea

Evangelical Church Oradea, Biserica Evanghelica Oradea

One of the places to see in Oradea is the Evangelical Church. This church is built in Neo-Gothic style and the thing that impressed me the most besides its architecture was its green color.

Since we visited Oradea during some local holidays, the church was closed, but i’m sure that its interior is as beautiful as its exterior.

2.15 Poynar House

Poynar House Oradea, Casa Poynar Oradea

Built in seccession style, this house was finished at the beginning of the 20th century. It’s one of the recently renovated buildings in Oradea and even though you can’t visit the inside of the building since people live in it, you can still admire its beautiful facade.

2.16 Regina Maria Theatre

Teatrul Regina Maria Oradea, Regina Maria Theatre

With a capacity of over 600 people, Regina Maria Theatre is one of Oradea’s landmarks. The exterior architecture is Neo-Classic, while the interior has multiple Rococo elements.

I spent a few minutes trying to take a picture in front of this beautiful building. I loved the colonnades and even though it was a cloudy day, I managed to take a few stunning pictures.

2.17 Astoria Hotel

Oradea Astoria Hotel architecture

Oradea has many buildings that deserve to be admired and one of them is Astoria Hotel. At the ground floor there used to be a popular cafe where intellectuals used to meet. The palace was built in 1902, but later on in 1930 it was turned into a hotel.

During World War II the hotel was closed, but it was re-opened in 1975 and the hotel still functions today.

2.18 Darvas La-Roche House

Darvas La Roche House Interior, Casa Darvas La Roche Oradea Art Nouveau

One of the must-see tourist attractions in Oradea is the spectacular Darvas La-Roche House . The house is built in Art-Nouveau secession style and it impresses through its beauty and authenticity.

Darvas La Roche House Interior, Casa Darvas La Roche Oradea Art Nouveau

I visited this house and I must say that I was really impressed by it. The Neo-Rococo furniture, the kitchen with its original furnishing and the bathroom are just some of the unique spaces you can explore at Darvas La-Roche.

Also, when I visited there was a perfume and jewellery exposition. As a person who owns more than a dozen perfumes, I was quite excited by it.

2.19 St. Ursulines Church

Saint Ursulines Church Oradea, Biserica Ursulinelor Oradea

Finished in 1774, St. Ursulines Church is one of the most underrated places in Oradea and you need to visit it. The most impressive part of this church is its pink facade. However, you can also visit the interior if you’d like.

2.20 Rimanoczy Palace

Rimancozy Palace Oradea, palatul Rimancozy Oradea

One of the most beautiful palaces and buildings in Oradea is Rimanoczy. Built in eclectic style and with Gothic elements, this palace dates back to the beginning of the 1900s like most architectural gems in Oradea.

This orange building has 3 levels. At the ground floor you’ll find a few stores while the upper levels are home to a few apartments. I stopped in front of this building for a few minutes to take a photo and I’m really happy with the result.

2.21 Stern Palace

Stern Palace Oradea, Palatul Stern Oradea

This beautiful palace was designed by the same architects that designed the famous Black Eagle Palace. The palace’s facade is embellished with floral motifs, making it one of the top places to see in Oradea.

I took my time to take a few photos and I also entered the building’s courtyard, where I discovered a quiet place, filled with charm.

2.22 Orthodox Romanian Bishopric

Orthodox Romanian Bishopric Oradea, Episcopia Ortodoxa Romana Oradea

Originally the residence of Rimanoczy, the famous architect who designed many buildings in Oradea, this building was later transformed into the Orthodox Romanian Bishopric. The construction has an eclectic style and the facade has many beautiful details worth admiring.

2.23 Moskovits Palace

Moskovits Palace Oradea, Palatul Moskovits Oradea, Blue art Nouveau building Oradea

One of my favorite places in Oradea and one of the top tourist attractions in the city is the incredible Moskovits Palace, built in 1905. This iconic blue building is covered in many symbols such as Mercury’s sceptre, the tree of life and more.

During the summer people gather in front of it to take photos, so I advise you to visit this palace early in the morning. Unfortunately, the palace cannot be visited inside since it houses a few apartments where people still live.

2.24 The Descent of the Holy Spirit Church

The Descent of the Holy Spirit Church Oradea

I discovered this beautiful church by accident and I think it deserves to be included in this top of the best places to visit in Oradea. The church was finished in 1774, but its architecture changed over time, reaching its current shape in 1858.

2.25 Oradea Fortress

Oradea Fortress

When it comes to fortresses in Romania , the standards are quite high. Alba Iulia Fortress and Brasov are some of the most beautiful ones. I visited Oradea Fortress but honestly, it didn’t impress me. If you have more than 2 days to spend in the city I recommend visiting it. Otherwise, I recommend focusing on Union Square and the attractions nearby.

2.26 Neolog Synagogue Sion

Neolog Synagogue Sion Oradea

When it comes to religious sites, Oradea has plenty of them. One impressive building is the Neolog Synagogue Sion, built in 1878. This synagogue is a simplified replica of the Nurenberg Synagogue.

When I visited, it was closed so unfortunately I couldn’t enter the synagogue to admire it. Nowadays, this place is used for cultural events such as concerts, exhibitions and book launches.

2.27 Liberty Park

This small park stretching along the river is an oasis of silence and beauty. I visited it in the spring and the alleys were bordered by thousands of tulips. This park is a good destination if you want to relax. There are a few flower shops and benches where you can sit and admire the views.

2.28 Intellectuals’ Bridge

Intellectuals Bridge Oradea, Podul Intelectualilor Oradea

This is one of the most beautiful bridges in Oradea. It offers a beautiful view towards Crisul Repede and its history starts around 1974 when the city’s intellectuals crossed this bridge daily on their way to work.

2.29 Admire the views from Dock Restaurant

Dock Restaurant Oradea on Crisu Repede

One of the newest restaurants in Oradea is Dock Restaurant, located right on the banks of Crisul Repede River. The restaurant offers incredible views towards Union Square and City Town Hall.

The menu includes delicious soups, pasta, salads and desserts. You should definitely try their lava cake!

2.30 Aquapark Nymphaea Oradea

Oradea Nymphaea Aquapark

If you’re looking for fun activities in Oradea, I recommend spending a day at Nymphaea Aquapark. It’s the perfect destination for families and couples alike. The park has waterslides, indoor pools, outdoor pools, jacuzzis, saunas and even a Turkish bath.

3. Where to stay in Oradea

Oradea dozsa residence

For our stay in Oradea, we chose Dozsa Residence , a beautiful villa with modern apartments for rent and a jacuzzi in the backyard. Our apartment had a kitchen with everything we needed, a spacious balcony, 2 rooms decorated with modern furniture and all the amenities necessary for our stay.

Dozsa Residence is just a short drive away from the city center and it’s the perfect choice if you’re looking for a quiet and comfortable place to spend the night.

If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, I recommend Oradea Central Hostel .

4. Final thoughts

Oradea is certainly among the most beautiful cities in Romania and I’m glad that I finally visited it. I loved the Art-Nouveau buildings, the city’s laid-back vibe and its welcoming locals.

I recommend spending at least 2 days in Oradea. The good news is that most tourist attractions are located in the city centre or nearby and you can see them all on foot.

All Reviews

It took me a few years to find the perfect host agency, but I cannot think of any better partner for my business than Oasis Travel Network. I am excited for the bright future!

My boutique luxury agency, Unforgettable Trips, has experienced tremendous growth and success over the years that I attribute directly to the help and support I've received from Oasis. I've benefited from all their cutting edge tools/technologies and resources as well as connecting my agency to all the right people in the industry that in turn help my clients!

When we started looking for a Host Agency I was immediately drawn to Oasis Travel Network for their responsiveness, transparency & true partnership feel in our success. Being new to industry the level of support, opportunities to experience with FAM's, OTNU, Conference options and weekly training were top needs for us. Expectations have been exceeded!!! Thank you OTN for your part in our success.

I have been with Oasis since 2017. I found them when researching host agencies and have never looked back. After joining I immediately felt that I was part of a great organization. Lee and the support team are there to assist in many ways, from developing new associates, to helping other agents in building their business. They continuously cultivate and maintain relationships with top suppliers and are a member of Signature Travel Network. Weekly webinars help keep us knowledgeable about changes in the industry. The Oasis staff and agents are the best!

I can’t say enough about having OTN as my host Agency, since being with OTN I have seen my business double after leaving my previous Host Agency. Highly recommend. I have so many more opportunities to advance my business with relationships they have with suppliers. You will not be disappointed choosing OTN as your Host Agency best support for anything you have questions on.

I am in my 49th year of selling travel and the last 13 have been with OTN. This was the best move I have made. The support from the staff is great and the benefits we have are better than I could have imagined. I have made many great friends and have traveled more than I thought possible. Love making dreams come true for my clients.

Not only am I newer agent with Oasis, I'm new to the travel industry. Before I joined Oasis, the only experience I had was my own personal travel. I found that the OTN training was thorough and helped kickstart my business. Questions that come up are answered promptly by staff members. Fellow TAs have also been a great resource! I'm thankful to have found a company that is invested in seeing us all succeed!

I have been a part of OTN since 2015, and my journey with them has been nothing short of exceptional. As a travel advisor, finding the right host agency is crucial, and OTN has consistently exceeded my expectations.

Throughout the years, I've witnessed my business flourish under the supportive umbrella of OTN. Even during the challenging times of the pandemic, OTN demonstrated unwavering support, going to great lengths to advocate for both us advisors and our clients. Their commitment to our success has truly set them apart.

One of the standout features of OTN is the abundance of training and resources they provide. Whether it's through online materials, regular zoom meetings with suppliers or engaging in-person events, OTN ensures that advisors are well-equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the dynamic travel industry.

The OTN community, especially the Facebook group, is a treasure trove of valuable insights and collaboration. The sense of camaraderie among the 800+ advisors creates a virtual office atmosphere, making working from home a truly enriching and social experience. The exchange of ideas, tips, and support within this community has been invaluable to my professional growth.

In summary, OTN has proven to be more than just a host agency – it's a supportive and thriving community that fosters success. I am grateful for their continuous dedication to the success of their advisors and the exceptional experiences they provide for both us and our clients. If you're seeking a host agency that truly invests in your growth, OTN is the perfect choice.

My time with Oasis Travel Network has been excellent! When I started researching how to get into the travel industry, one host agency kept coming up as the one that checked all the boxes. I knew that as someone who is new to travel, I wanted an agency that would provide training and support. Oasis has done that and more. Oasis has made it seamless and easy to begin building a travel business. I highly recommend them. Thank you Oasis!!

Oasis is the second host agency I have been affiliated with, and it is a world of difference from what I experienced with my previous company. The owner has proven time and time again that he knows how to build a successful business and he is willing to share the secrets to his success as there is nothing he wants more than for all of us to succeed. The administrative staff is very supportive also making it easy to continue to grow your business year after year. The most important things they have provided however, are the relationships with suppliers around the world. If you are looking for an opportunity to grow your existing business, I recommend giving Oasis a chance.

I have always wanted to get into the travel business as an advisor. I am new to the travel industry but not new to traveling. TRAVELLED TO VIETNAM

Andrew & Julie-Ann (NSW 2024)

From the very beginning of booking with Oasis Travel the process was seamless. The app was a great and referred to frequently. In the north we were with Kien (our guide) Tuan (our driver) and they couldn’t have done anything more. Kien went over and above, he was extremely knowledgeable and the great gift of understanding his audience. It was great getting off the beaten track and wandering through the villages. One of the highlights was the overnight train trip from Lao Cai to Hanoi. Heading south we met Hung in Da Nang. Totally different guide and perfect for the Hoi An. We had a great day out cycling through rice fields that included eating the rice noddles we made for lunch. The Sampan on the Mekong Delta was an amazing 24 hours and would recommend it over and above Halong Bay which is beautiful but everywhere you turn there’s another tourist boat. Ngoc Tran from Victoria Cruises is worth a special mention, along with the rest of the crew that looked after us. We would have brought her home if we could. The only disappointment was Topas Eco Lodge. Location and accommodation were beautiful, the food left a lot to be desired. It has much more of a big hotel feel and the staff are lovely but felt void of personality or ability to make any decisions on their own. This is the first time (except for Africa 2008) that I’ve booked an organized trip through an agent. It was a great way to get the most out of a new destination.

TRAVELLED TO BORNEO

Rod & Robyn (SA 2024)

The trip went very well, organization was faultless.  Our guide and driver in KL were both great and we enjoyed our time there. We especially liked the food tour of the markets and stalls.

All went well at Sepilok. Our view of the Proboscis monkeys was in the pouring rain , but the monkeys didn’t seem to mind and we were under cover. Sun Bear and Orangutans all easy to access.

Sukau Lodge lived up to our expectations.  The welcoming arrangements and briefing of activities were thorough and informative. The lodge was very well organized and the staff in the lodge were very obliging and happy to go out of their way to make the stay special. We were lucky enough to see the elephants feeding at the edge of the river,  as well as many birds and monkeys. The night boat trips were also a lot of fun.

Danum Valley is an amazing place and we are very glad we made the effort to get there. It has been on our “list ” for a while. We saw some wonderful wildlife and birds – orangutan, the argus ( Borneo peacock), civets and deer on a night drive, and many very cheeky macaques.

Thank you for all your organisation and patience in answering all our questions. . We were very happy with the way the trip was planned and would not hesitate to recommend Oasis travel and yourself to others. We have some comments about BRL FYI but do not see this as a reflection on your organisation in any way.

TRAVELLED TO PATAGONIA

Annie & Tracey (WA 2024)

Omg! What a brilliant trip. So well organised. Driving in Argentina very entertaining! The only think we would do differently would be an extra day in Calafate and one day less in el Chalten. Top hotel was Peninsular Petit. Just like staying in a postcard. Wonderful breakfast and their evening meals lovely. Private beach lake to swim gorgeous Great service there. Tours great especially the walking food tour in Buenos Aries. A great sample of the huge variety of terrain in Argentina. Iguazu amazing. A must to see both sides and go on the jet boat under the falls. Thanks for your great organising. So nice to be collected at airports. What a fabulous country.

TRAVELLED TO SOUTH AMERICA

Jackie & Chris (TAS 2024)

We had a great time. The Antarctic was everything I had hoped and the ship, the Greg Mortimer, was terrific. We crossed the Antarctic Circle at midnight on New Year’s Eve which was quite special. Patagonia was wonderful…….I’ve finally found somewhere that is windier than Tasmania????. Actually we did have quite good weather although had to postpone the Grey Lake boat trip until the next day as it was cancelled due to wind. But that didn’t matter at all.

Driving was very easy and Chris did a great job. He managed to miss most of the potholes and we had no probs with the car. It wasn’t a 4×4 but a Cherry SUV. Didn’t matter much except I guess we could have gone faster in the other one and it would have been more robust. The bus ride was interesting from El Calafate and wasn’t onerous at all.

Highlight for Patagonia was the horse ride we did at Hotel Las Torres and the Perito Moreno tour. They were fabulous. Also loved the food tour and Tango show in BA. All transfers were perfect and all the tour people were excellent. It was a great trip and we had a wonderful time.

Yulia & family (NSW 2024)

The entire experience was nothing short of extraordinary. We are very grateful for your meticulous planning and thoughtful consideration that went into every aspect of our trip. The days were planned extremely well, the guides were great, vehicles very comfortable and air conditioned (much appreciated in 35-38 degrees!). Every activity from the city tours to the cooking classes was enjoyable despite the very hot and humid weather which was quite unusual for mid April.

I’m very grateful that you suggested that we visit Vietnam – beautiful country and lovely people.

Thank you very much once again for your work and knowledge, I would not hesitate to recommend Oasis to all my friends.

All the best and I’ll be in touch to organize our next holiday one day (hopefully sooner rather than later 🙂

Thank you for organising the trip – it was great.

TRAVELLED TO ARGENTINA

Carol & Paul (NSW 2024)

Our Argentina trip went very well, with no hiccups in any aspect of the organisation. We were particularly impressed with the internal air flights, airport pickups, drivers being on time, and the excellent tours: a half-day tour of Buenos Aires, the full day wine tour in Mendoza, and Iguazú Falls. The standard of guides was excellent, with a particular shout-out to Beatrix at Iguazú: one of the best guides we have ever had. The weather throughout the two weeks was sunny and hot – so we felt very lucky.

We’d have to say that the hotel change in Mendoza worked out the best for us, as it was a bit more up-market, in a central location, and had good facilities and breakfast. Selva Lodge at Iguazú was also very good, if a little out of town when looking for restaurants or other activities.

Overall, Ed, we really enjoyed our first taste of Argentina, and are particularly appreciative of your efforts on our behalf, your excellent organisation, and your up-to-date communication with us as things changed. We would use Oasis Travel again to see central Argentina and Patagonia, and also other countries in South America.

Rachel & Edward (SA 2024)

Thank you, we are now in Italy enjoying our more relaxed time here after our very busy (but great) schedule in South America.

Firstly, everything went smoothly, we had no issues with transfers not turning up or hotels not expecting us, everything went per the plan and there were no avoidable hiccups thank you. It was stress free and well organised.

In terms of highlights and lowlights, for us the best parts were in Patagonia & Argentina. We loved Torres del Paine and were lucky enough to have a perfect day hiking Las Torres and because you had booked us into the perfect spot – Hotel Las Torres – it meant we had an early start to our walk and therefore did not encounter large groups of people, we were well on our way down as the day trippers were heading up. I also enjoyed that you booked us on the other side of the park (beautiful drive) for a couple of nights but the hotel there (Hotel del Paine) was a little bit rough around the edges – our window pane was cracked edge to edge and the facilities were very basic – but the food was great (as it was at Las Torres).

We also loved Bariloche – the hotel there was our favourite – (Hotel Peninsula Petit) – so perfect on the lake and the food there and hosts were fantastic.

Having our own car in these two regions also worked really well, the driving was easy and it gave us the sort of freedom we like when travelling.

The biggest (happy) surprise for me was the Perito Moreno glacier. I had never seen a glacier before and our trip there was fantastic. The hotel in El Calafate was ok but it was 4kms out of town with nothing else around, so a location in El Calafate would have been better.

Buenos Aires was terrific, we loved the Palermo neighborhood where we had a great night out, and the hotel was very nice in Recoleta.

The lowlight of the trip for us was Bogota and our trip to Villa de Leyva. The tour of Bogata was fine – the gold museum was very interesting as I am interested in Indigenous cultures/history and the cable car to Monserrate was fine – great view – and our hotel was very nice. However, on the whole Bogata as a city did not excite us. Whilst Villa de Leyva itself was a very lovely perfectly preserved town – it was like we had stepped into southern Spain rather than Colombia. In hindsight I think maybe for us the coffee region or Medellin would have suited us better. However Cartagena was awesome – full of Carribean colour and music and we took a day trip to the Rosario Islands which was relaxing and it was nice to cool off at the beach. Again the hotel here was lovely – although the rooms all connected to each other via internal vent – so not very soundproof!

Costa Rica was good, Arenal was really nice, the day tour with the 3 activities was excellent – my favourite tour of the trip. The hotel was also excellent, we spent a day by the pool there which we never do, but we needed a day off and the surroundings were so nice. Tortaguera was a surprise – we had no idea it was so remote and we were shocked at the light plane airstrip to get out – but it was an adventure! It was 1 day too long, 3 days 2 nights would have been plenty, as you are very confined to the resort or the town. The canal wildlife trip was great and we saw lots of wildlife (including sloths and of course lots of monkeys) just around the hotel. Manuel Antonio was great – nice to see the Pacific side and the beaches were good, apart from the tour of the park we mainly spent our time at the beach. The biggest surprise here was how long it took to get there and back from San Jose, it was 5 hours both ways, despite being less than 200kms.

The only other place I didn’t mention was Santiago. The wine tour was terrific, both wineries were very enjoyable. The full day tour of Santiago was not that great. The guide did his best, but there are just not enough things to see in Santiago to fill in a full day, a half day tour would have been much better. The hotel location was perfect, nice restaurants etc in walking distance, but basic.

Therefore we had a lovely time. You did a great job with the hotels/tours in general, I appreciate we had a budget therefore you were balancing out where to spend more/less and I think you got it right most of the time as the locations were all spot on except for El Calafate.

Thanks for your help planning a wonderful trip

TRAVELLED TO VIETNAM & CAMBODIA

Jo-Anne & Colin (ACT 2024)

Thank you for organising a hassle free sensational Vietnam / Cambodia holiday for us . The airport transfers were a breeze, accommodation fantastic (must say the Hue AnHill Boutique was our favourite). The Hoi An street food tour was excellent (he asked me to thanks you for choosing his company). Everything was great.

Marilyn & Jan (SA 2023)

There is only one word to describe our trip…..WOW! Every day it was a new version of WOW. It seems such a small word to describe the magnitude of the experiences we have had. From the accommodation and tours to the sense of safety and security knowing that it was all going to work well….. and it did! What a beautiful part of the world. Thank you so very much for all your organisational skills.

We are now safely back home …… planning the next adventure. Stay tuned!

TRAVELLED TO MOROCCO

Leanne (QLD 2023)

Thank you for putting together a fantastic itinerary. It went perfectly without any problems. I must admit I was a bit hesitant as it was last minute, we seemed to book with haste, and we hadn’t used travel agents before, but it went better than ever expected. Kahmal, the driver, picked us up from Casablanca as planned, and it was smooth sailing from then on.

The driver was fantastic. Kahmal had water for us at each stop; he took care of us and looked after us as if we were his personal guests. I would recommend Kamal as the driver for all from that company. The day tour to Meknes and wine tasting in Chateau Roslane was fantastic and we were so glad it could be arranged. We didn’t realise it was Islamic new Year’s Day so there were not many people but the guide at the Chateau still took us through cellar storage and production. Our time ended in Marrakesh, our driver was still attentive until we got to the airport and I think we were all a bit sad the trip had come to an end.

The wifi in the car was incredible and allowed up to look up places we were travelling past, monuments we had seen with the guides, and more history of the location. We had booked a riad called Tarabel ourselves and it was beautiful. The staff were incredible. It might be more expensive than others but it was a great location and service to end the trip if others enquire about it. Apparently it has not been affected in the recent earthquake and is intact. We knew it would be hot and without the driver and the arranged yours, we would not have achieved to see and travel as much. The itinerary was perfect for us and to make it work last minute was fantastic

Judi & Geoff (2023)

We have just returned and a big thanks for our wonderful holiday. We had a totally stress free holiday with soooo many adventures that we loved. I particularly loved the Mekong Delta, the Hanoi streets and the foodie tour in Hoi An with a guy named Phuc was so authentic as he was born in one of the laneways we visited. All the guides were fantastic. The hotels were amazing. The only one I would change was the one in Bangkok- we loved the hotel but would have perhaps liked to be closer to China town. We are already thinking about another trip and I have referred you to a couple of friends. The anxiety was definitely taken out of the holiday. I’m thinking Borneo next as I’ve always wanted to see the orangutans.

TRAVELLED TO BRAZIL & ARGENTINA

Richard & Di (2023)

So what can I say everything that you organised for us was fantastic all the tours and transport your secured for us was great everything ran smoothly. The tour guides and tour in Rio, Iguazu and Buenos Aires were first class and very informative as was Panama. If I was to complain about anything it was the tour guide we had in Panama showed up with the flu or Covid that we didn’t want so I pulled him aside early on and asked if he thought it was appropriate for him to continue the tour as he was obviously crook and he told me it was fine he would wear a mask. We also had the lovely lady that met us at the airport at Buenos Aires send a message next morning to say she was not feeling well so substituted her friend to do the tour and she was great and was very appreciated by us. Also the people that oversaw our time in Argentina were fantastic they contacted me on arrival and answered a few questions I had very responsive. Our Brangus Congress was also great it but was full on 5am starts midnight finish most days. So we appreciated our rest time in Jamaica. The accommodation and locations you selected were perfect. We feel we got a good feel for all the places we visited. So thank you we are glad we found you. We are planning to attend the congress again in two years in Brazil. So you won’t get rid of us just yet. Thanks so much again

TRAVELLED TO BALKANS

Jane & Geoff (2023)

I just wanted to say thank you for all your help organising our trip. It was perfect and everything you organised went very smoothly. I can particularly recommend the Balkan section of drivers and guides. They were all delightful, helpful and knowledgeable. Hopefully we can organise another trip soonish.

SELF DRIVE TO CHILE & ARGENTINA

Andrew & Sarah (2023)

SO THE TRIP ! amazing , loved Chilé, the landscape , the people , the food , the wine , everything! We were incredibly lucky with the weather , hardly any rain and most days were cool at first and then sunny -perfect days .Driving was fine , the Carretera Austral got down to single track dirt road and once I decided to pull over for all approaching traffic ( particularly at night ) it was no problem. The Patagonia roads were fine although Bariloche traffic over Easter was crazy ! We loved the peace and wildness of the lake General carrera area , and hotel terra Luna was a great sanctuary after all the travelling we’d done .the area was definitely a highlight. So other highlights – Lago todos los santos boat trip ( with the Chilean tourists over Easter Friday ) , in fact all the boat trips with the locals were great ( I like people watching and the lakes and mountains were stunning – yes perfect time of year with the autumn colours ) .

Loved San Martin , great boutique hotel and found the first large / old Aracarias in Lanin national park . Loved all the volcanoes wereever we went . Discovered pisco sours ! Hotel Nothofagus is ridiculous and personally too touristy and gimmicky ( western fairies ripping off the local myths ) but kitchen staff very helpful as our stomachs were in trouble at that point ( our own mishandling of picnic food ) . I’m not also sure I like the Huilo Huilo model – too tourist focused and gimmicky .( I’m influenced by working in the field ) . Biggest highlight I think was conguillo NP , volcanic , wild and the Aracaria were wonderful , I think you suggested staying 3 days – you were right ! I wish we’d seen more monkey puzzle environments- next time ! And the Atacama – certainly a contrast .

We were very glad not to be there in high season , as San Pedro is definitely a tourist town . The sites all seemed busy but this didn’t spoil the experience. All guides were very good, and we signed up for an extra trip to the rainbow valley and some nearby petroglyphs which was perhaps our favourite trip . All were good and it is an extraordinary place . Thanks again for all your help ,

Anne & Paul (2023)

Hi Ed first email to answer some of your questions. Hard to pick one highlight but for both of us the cruise really stood out – as being absolutely spectacular along with sensational food and excellent service. Close behind was the lake crossing from puerto varas to bariloche, camp patagonia and the estancia / asado at calafate. The weather was superb, a great time of the year to go and we were rewarded with snow at Cape horn and ushuaia. Patagonia is not only magnificent but also very diverse! Some photos to follow and more details over the coming days! Thanks again

Nicki & Peter (2023)

Overall, the holiday was sensational. Our favourites were Selingan Island and the Kinabatangan River.

Kota Kinabalu was pretty uninspiring and if I were doing it again, I would have gone straight to Gaya Island and had the extra night there, although the KK sunset was pretty incredible! The snorkelling from Gaya was fabulous. An excellent day. In Sepilok, because we arrived so early after Air Asia mucked our flights up, we accidentally discovered the proboscis monkey sanctuary, which turned out to be a great experience.

We felt doubling back on Sepilok and repeating the orang-utans was not the best use of time, especially as we saw them in the wild, but I’m not sure how you’d tweak that part.

Danum Valley accommodation was amazing but it’s not a great drive to get there and the wildlife was disappointing compared with the river experience. The one exception was the appearance of a flange male actually in the lodge. I had stayed behind from the burial site trek and was very glad I did!

Borneo is a fantastic place for any nature-lover and we are still raving about the trip. We saw a lot and we were escorted from place to place without incident, which is pretty remarkable given the distances we travelled.

Thank you for helping us make our dream holiday a reality.

Robyn & Greg (2022)

We are about to embark today on the Plancius, it came into the harbour last night & the seas are calm at this stage. We have had a wonderful time in both Chile & Argentina, hotels, guides all fantastic, these two countries stand alone & are difficult to compare to anything we have seen before. Thanks for all of the planning will give you a call when we get home.

TRAVELLED TO PERU, ECUADOR & THE GALAPAGOS

Wendy, Lisa, Janice & Carmel (2022)

Just wanted to say a huge thank you. This years holiday has been 4 to 5 years in the making, it was to be a 5 year celebration and reunion of our 2015 trip. Unfortunately Covid delayed it by 2 years! But we were there, we achieved it and basked in the perfection of it all. Thanks heaps. The Beluga was yet another thank you moment. The fact that we were in the Galápagos Islands was surreal but to be experiencing it as a guest on board the Beluga was sheer magic. The crew were fabulous the meals were fabulous and the islands were unique and very special. It was so hard to say which accommodation was our favourite until we arrived at Hacienda San Agustin de Callo circa 1440. This was the most amazing accommodation any of us have ever experienced, we would have happily stayed forever. No exaggeration! We had our very own 3 bedroom cottage with open fireplaces in all rooms, we got to eat amazing meals in the Inca dining room and snuggle up in the lounge with Lady, the well loved Labrador. We revelled in our Llama welcome along with the other guests while feeling that to our host Gabriel we were the only guests! Such an amazing manager.

So thank you Ed and thank you Nick for all your efforts in organising what was another unforgettable and once in a lifetime trip!

Francine (NSW 2022)

Thank you for organising our trip to Morocco. It was wonderful and everything went smoothly. The only thing I would change was to have 2 nights at the Kam Kam safari camp.

Looking forward to booking with Oasis Travel in the future

Wendy & friends (NSW 2022)

Just wanted to say a huge thank you. This years holiday has been 4 to 5 years in the making, it was to be a 5 year celebration and reunion of our 2015 trip. Unfortunately Covid delayed it by 2 years! But we were there, we achieved it and basked in the perfection of it all. Thanks heaps

Let’s start with our accommodation, Villa Barranco in Lima, stunning, beautiful restored 1920’s home lovingly restored to a 9 bedroom hotel only 5 years ago and our hosts Julio and Frank were so helpful and very charming. Gocta Lodge, what a location, stunning vista of the falls, manicured grounds complete with resident llamas and hummingbirds, I don’t think there would be a person anywhere that could not help but feel totally relaxed here. Hotel Kentitambo in Leymebamba, words can’t describe the essence of this hotel. Picture perfect grounds with an abundance of flowers and even more hummingbirds! The meals were amazing, we quickly realised that we wouldn’t be losing any weight on this trip.

The Beluga was yet another thank you moment. The fact that we were in the Galápagos Islands was surreal but to be experiencing it as a guest on board the Beluga was sheer magic. The crew were fabulous the meals were fabulous and the islands were unique and very special.

It was so hard to say which accommodation was our favourite until we arrived at Hacienda San Agustin de Callo circa 1440 This was the most amazing accommodation any of us have ever experienced, we would have happily stayed forever.

Of course a holiday such as ours could never happen without our guides. They were fabulous, nothing was too much trouble to them and our comfort and safety was always considered.  Some we only had for half a day, Jenny in Lima but her knowledge and enthusiasm was inspiring, if we hadn’t already loved Lima we would after spending time with Jenny. Our Cesares in Trujillo to Chiclayo excellent driver and an expert guide and so happy they had the same name, made life easy! We became very familiar with the Huacas of the sun and the moon, Chan Chan and the Lady of Cao. Amazing history! Mitzi was our guide in Chiclayo, a walking encyclopaedia on the Lords of Sipan, and we will be forever in her debt for recommending that us old  girls hired horses to get to Gocta falls. Julio was our guide from Chiclayo to Chachapoyas and Senor Hegel was our driver, and what an amazing driver he was! Julio was a treasure trove of information and had an excellent sense of humour, our efforts in human exertion were always rewarded with sublime or addiction moments, chocolates he’d brought along to share when we reached Grocta or the Sarcophagi! In the Galapagos our guide was Karla, she was a powerhouse of enthusiasm. She shared her love of the islands, each unique and she inspired us to want to do and experience everything we could in such a short time. Miriam was our next amazing guide and Fernando was our driver. Ecuador was a surprise not sure what we expected but it surpassed anything we could have hoped for. The metropolis of Quito to the pristine beauty of Cotopaxi! It’s so good to see a country through the eyes of people that know it and love it! Our final guide was Christian who met us in Cuenca, what a fabulous, beautiful city and with Christian’s knowledge we learned so much about this cosmopolitan city that was once a rest place on the Inca highway from the coast to the highlands. On route to Guayaquil with did a walk through Cajas national park and experienced the beauty of the high altitude lakes area. Fabulous!

So thank you Ed and thank you Nick for all your efforts in organising what was another unforgettable  and once in a lifetime trip!

Ross & Carmel (VIC, 2020)

We loved the whole experience! Our guides were wonderful: prompt, friendly, informative with very good English, particularly Nanh in Hoi A and Hue, Quoc in HCMC and Vaanak in Siem Riep. We particularly loved the garden house in Hue; wandering through the Hmong village near Mai Chau; the cooking class with Chef Ay and the lunch with the veteran in Hanoi, and the whole experience in Siem Riep and the Kulen mountains. (We haven’t received  Ay’s recipes yet however!).

We had a wonderful time! Thanks for a marvellous, unforgettable and very well organised trip!

TRAVELLED TO SRI LANKA

Pauline & party (VIC, 2020)

Just checking in to let you know we had a terrific time in Sri Lanka, we loved the country and its people, all of us were particularly smitten with the cultural triangle.

Thanks for your seamless assistance and careful guidance.

Simon & Tiffany (N.T 2020)

I have travelled to over 90 countries and the planning and execution of Oasis travel was unbelievable! Great value for money, excellent driver and vehicle, top hotels in every location and best of all we had an amazing experience. A lot to be said about someone to organise your journey and it being better than you can imagine.

Alex & family (Dec 2019)

Just got home , what a fantastic holiday . All the hotels chosen  were top notch . We also enjoyed all the restaurants you recommended. Our guides and drivers were all fantastic and we had an amazing time . We were lucky with the weather in Peru we actually had mostly fine weather and didn’t miss out on anything . We particularly enjoyed the accommodation in sacred valley . The staff at that resort were outstanding. The hotel in Cartagena was beautiful. The only downfall was due to latam / qantas on flight home. We landed in Sydney airport with limited time to catch our domestic flight home to Brisbane . We had to pass immigration and customs and collect our bags . The airport was a absolute madhouse. When we reached the qantas transfer desk they told us that latam had not arranged for us to be on next available flight to Brisbane . So we had to go to the latam desk in the departures hall and discus with them. on our arrival at the desk there was a 2 hour wait to speak to anyone as there was over 30 passengers with the same issue. We didn’t get home till 5 hours after our allocated original time. All in all , fantastic trip and we know it is nothing to do with oasis that this happened. Thanks again we truly had a great time over there and loved all the hotels etc .

Kathy & Tim (QLD 2019)

Thanks for the note and apologies we haven’t been in contact sooner. We had an amazing time. The tour was great and the main tour leader was fantastic – very knowledgeable and down to earth guy. We had a couple of tour leaders during the eclipse tour and they were both great. I can’t take credit for the eclipse shot, it was taken by a guy who came along with all the required equipment. The location we saw it from was isolated but therefore not crowded and overlooked the Andes – incredible! Also included a photo of the tour (we’re 2nd and 3rd from the right – I’m the short one), a tourist shot from Igassu and Valparaiso. Tim and I can’t thank you enough for the holiday we had.

Julie & Grant (SA 2019)

Thank you for arranging such an amazing holiday to Argentina for us. We had the best time and really enjoyed the diversity in the landscapes from Salta to Iguazu then the wetlands. The beautiful people and delicious wine and food. Such a wonderful country now we need to go back and see the south! Thanks again, the itinerary was perfect for us.

Victoria & Darren (NSW 2020)

We’re back in sunny Adelaide, safe and sound, even though we didn’t get home exactly as planned (thanks, Qantas). This is another big, big thank you to you from the two of us. Your itinerary was spot on, and your insights into the idiosyncrasies of South American airlines were right on the money! The only thing we would change (perhaps) is the accommodation in Mendoza… the management, staff and location of Cavas Wine Lodge were superb (big thanks to Bernie, our driver and guide), but the villas themselves suffered from an absence of ceiling fans and window screens… which meant we missed out on the beautiful nighttime breezes from the Andes, and had to listen to a noisy A/C. If we were to return to Mendoza, we would probably look at staying at The Vines Resort instead. But seriously, this is the only accommodation we would change: Algodon Mansion, Hotel Puerto Valle and Hub Portena were all completely fabulous. Scenic Eclipse surpassed all our expectations: fabulous suite, fabulous restaurants, and fabulous expedition (‘Discovery’) team members.

Kay & Ian (VIC 2020)

We had a great trip thank you very much and all went very well. We loved the hotel in Hanoi and really enjoyed the resort in Tam Coc – but it was all very good.

We also went on a street food tour organised by the hotel in Hanoi and that was also good. The lecture by the restoration architect in Hoi An was very interesting.

In HCMC we also treated ourselves to Luke Nyugen restaurant Vietnam House.
