About Florida Professional Golf Tour

The Florida Professional Golf Tour (aka FPGTour), now in it's 16th year, has roots that date back over 60 years. The tour was started by Rick Hendershot with the help of Mac Snow, both of whom are Class A members of the PGA of America, as a developmental tour for professional golfers in Central Florida. Re-Branded in 2006 under it’s new name, the FPGTour (Formerly known as the PGA’s North Florida Winter Tour) has quickly risen to become a premier destination for Tour players from around the world. From the start, the FPGTour has maintained a tour quality atmosphere in order to help prepare players for life as touring professionals. We strive to exceed the expectations of every professional golfer in order to leave them with an enduring experience and lessons that will allow them to succeed at a higher level. Though most of the sites from those early years are no longer used we have kept a few of the original events as part of the FPGTour and will continue to operate the long standing favorites that have been a mainstay in professional golf for the past 62 years. Those include The Riviera Open, The Indian River Open and the ever popular Wildwood Open and Pro-Am.

We are proud to be a favorite amongst journeymen golf professional’s as well as visiting club professional’s and top amateurs from around the world. Whether tournament golf is a full time passion, or your just visiting Florida to escape the cold northern temperatures and want to keep your playing skills sharp in the off season, consider making Central Florida and the FPGTour your winter destination.

Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS: How a golf tournament is leading the charge for sustainability

The Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K is set to return to Jacksonville, Florida, bringing with it not just world-class golf but a groundbreaking commitment to sustainability. Set for the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 6, the event promises to be a game-changer not just for the sport, but also for the environment.

When you think of a golf tournament, what typically comes to mind? Perhaps the pristine greens, the competitive spirit, or the gathering of fans and families. But at the heart of this year’s Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS is a mission that goes beyond the game: a deep commitment to environmental stewardship. In a time where every action counts toward a greener future, this event is setting new standards in how sports can lead the charge.

A vision for the future: Jim and Tabitha Furyk’s green legacy

Jim and Tabitha Furyk, the driving forces behind the tournament, have long been known for their dedication to philanthropy and community support. But this year, they’re pushing the envelope by integrating sustainability into the very fabric of their event.

"We’re incredibly proud of the steps we’ve taken to make Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS not just an exceptional golf experience, but a leader in sustainable practices," they shared.

The couple’s vision is clear: to create a lasting, positive impact on both the environment and the community they hold dear.

This isn’t just about making the tournament more eco-friendly; it’s about setting a precedent. Jim and Tabitha hope that their efforts will inspire other tournaments and events around the world to follow suit, proving that sustainability and sports can go hand in hand.

Innovations on the green: Transforming Timuquana Country Club

This year’s event will unfold at the Timuquana Country Club, where innovative environmental practices have been implemented to minimize the tournament’s footprint. Imagine walking the grounds, knowing that every step is part of a larger effort to protect our planet. The course now features a state-of-the-art irrigation system that conserves water, energy-efficient LED lighting and even electric vehicle charging stations to encourage sustainable transportation. And that’s just the beginning.

One of the standout innovations is the introduction of the NanoOxygen System in the pumphouse. This cutting-edge technology ensures better water quality on the course, aligning perfectly with the tournament’s broader sustainability goals.

Engaging the community: From Green Teams to solar-powered connections

Sustainability at Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS isn’t just about the venue; it’s about engaging the community. Enter the Green Team—local students who will be on the ground, educating attendees about recycling and eco-friendly practices. These young ambassadors are part of a larger movement to make sustainability a community effort, empowering fans to take home more than just memories.

And for those who need to stay connected, solar-powered charging stations will be available, ensuring that even your phone’s battery is recharged in an environmentally conscious way.

A commitment to long-term impact

But the green initiatives don’t stop when the last putt is made. The tournament has introduced 100% recyclable metal cups and refillable water stations, drastically reducing waste. In partnership with Sunshine Organics & Compost, all paper products used during the event are certified compostable. Hybrid generators will power the event, reducing fuel consumption by up to 40%.

Beyond the tournament: A tradition of giving back

Sustainability might be the headline, but it’s built on a foundation of charity and community support that the Furyks have cultivated for years. Thanks to a $500,000 donation from Constellation, this year’s tournament is set to generate over $1 million for North Florida charities—marking the third consecutive year of such remarkable generosity.

The beneficiaries? Organizations like the MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation, First Tee – North Florida, and St. Johns Riverkeeper, to name just a few. Each dollar raised contributes to a broader mission of improving lives and fostering a healthier environment for future generations.

As the 2024 Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS approaches, it’s clear that this isn’t just another golf tournament. It’s a powerful statement about the future we want to create—one where sustainability and community go hand in hand, and where every swing of the club brings us closer to a greener, more connected world.

What's the largest comeback in PGA Tour history?

Xander schauffele nearly completed one of the largest comebacks in pga tour history on sunday at the st. jude championship., by mike gavin • published 4 hours ago • updated 3 hours ago.

The top of the leaderboard at the St. Jude Championship was a lot closer than expected. And it included one golfer, Xander Schauffele, who entered the final round nine strokes behind the leader.

Hideki Matsuyama held a five-stroke lead through the first three rounds at 17-under par and seemed poised for an easy victory on Sunday. He held on for a two-stroke win, but it was far from easy.

📺 24/7 South Florida news stream: Watch NBC6 free wherever you are

His day turned on the back nine at TPC Southwind in Memphis, where he had bogeys on the 12th and 14th hole and a double bogey on the 15th.

The Hurricane season is on. Our meteorologists are ready. Sign up for the NBC 6 Weather newsletter to get the latest forecast in your inbox.

His lead quickly disappeared, as he dropped one shot off the lead before forcing a three-way tie with Schauffele and Viktor Hovland over the final holes of the tournament.

Schauffele entered Sunday at 8-under, trailing Matsuyama by nine strokes. Yet, Schauffele had a share of the lead when he entered the clubhouse Sunday at 15-under before Matsuyama drained a long birdie putt on the 17th hole to regain the lead for good.

Where would Schauffele's comeback have ranked all time in final-round comebacks on the PGA Tour?

It would have been one stroke off the all-time record set by Paul Lawrie at the 1999 British Open when he came back from 10-strokes behind leader Jean Van de Velde over the final 18 holes. Lawrie shot 67 in the final round while Van de Velde shot 77, and he then won a three-way playoff to complete the historic comeback.

Pro golf week ahead: Scottie Scheffler enters FedEx Cup playoffs with another Top 10 bonus

Scheffler officially clinched the comcast business tour top 10- for the second time in three years.

Portrait of Garry Smits

Scottie Scheffler officially finished as the FedEx Cup regular-season leader after the Wyndham Championship.

That means Scheffler won the Comcast Business Tour Top 10 for the second time in three years, earning an $8 million bonus before he hits a shot in this week’s playoff opener at the FedEx St. Jude Classic at TPC Southwind in Memphis.

Scheffler’s bonus was double that of last year’s winner, Jon Rahm. Scheffler earned $3 millon for finishing second to Rahm and picked up $4 million in 2022. That brings his total from the Tour Top 10 to $10 million.

Xander Schauffele was second and received a $6 million bonus. Rory McIlroy ($4.8 million), Collin Morikawa ($4.4 million) and Wyndham Clark ($4 million) rounded out the top five.

Scheffler has won Masters green (jacket) and Olympic gold

Scheffler enters the week with six victories this season, highlighted by the Masters and The Players Championship. Two weeks ago, he shot 62 in the final round to win the Olympic gold medal.

Scheffler has already earned a record $28,148,691 this season, with the potential to earn a share of the combined purses of $115 million for the St. Jude Classic, next week’s BMW Championship at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colo., and the Tour Champions at East Lake in Atlanta.

Scheffler already among top 10 in career PGA Tour earnings

The first-place checks in the first two playoff events are $3.6 million. Winning the FedEx Cup would bring $18 million so the possibility exists that if Scheffler sweeps all three, his earnings would surpass $53 million.

For now, the Tour Top 10 bonus means he has more than $36 million in on-course earnings this season. That money alone would put Scheffler 40 th on the PGA Tour’s career money list – and he’s already seventh and climbing, less than $1 million behind sixth-place Vijay Singh.

Chi Chi Rodriguez, the Golf World’s Swashbuckling Champion, Dies at 88

He won eight PGA Tour tournaments and two senior majors — but it was his flair on the greens that made him one of the sport’s most popular players.

A golfer mid-stroke, wearing a white hat and shirt with bright colors mixed in.

By Richard Goldstein

Chi Chi Rodriguez, whose flamboyance on the course and passion for the game of golf transformed him into one of its most popular players through his more than three decades on the pro tours, died on Thursday. He was 88.

His death was announced by the PGA Tour . The announcement did not cite a cause or say where he died.

In a sport typically associated with lush country clubs where respectful crowds idolize often bland players with comfortable roots, Rodriguez broke the mold.

Growing up in a poor family in Puerto Rico, he almost died at age 4 from vitamin deficiencies. At 7, he helped out in the sugar cane fields where his father, Juan Rodriguez Sr., whacked away with a machete for a few dollars a day.

The boy who would be known as Chi Chi also began caddying at a course that drew affluent tourists. He taught himself to play using limbs from guava trees to propel crushed tin cans into holes that he had dug on baseball fields, and when he was 12 he shot a 67 in a real game of golf. After playing in Puerto Rican tournaments, he joined the PGA Tour in 1960.

Rodriguez was 5-foot-7 and about 120 pounds. But he used his strong hands and wrists to get off long low drives, and he was an outstanding wedge player, offsetting his sometimes balky putting game. “For a little man, he sure can hit it,” Jack Nicklaus told Sports Illustrated in 1964, relating how Rodriguez often outdistanced him off the tee on flat, into-the-wind fairways.

Rodriguez won eight tournaments on the PGA Tour, then became one of the top players on the Senior (now Champions) Tour, capturing 22 events, including two majors: the 1986 Senior Players Championship and the 1987 Senior PGA Championship. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1992.

And he played with a flourish seldom seen.

When he made a birdie, he would cover the hole with his narrow-brim straw hat, then perform a toreador dance.

“One morning we were playing for five cents a hole,” he once told People magazine, recalling his long-ago games against fellow caddies. “I made a 40-foot putt, but there was a toad in the hole. When he hopped out, the ball came with it. I lost the nickel.” That inspired him to make sure that his ball would never again escape prematurely — or so the tale went.

After draining a difficult putt, Rodriguez would sometimes turn his putter into a simulated sword being unleashed on a bull, then wipe imaginary blood from it and place it in an invisible scabbard.

Such theatricality, plus his chattering with the galleries, didn’t endear him to some of his playing partners.

He was fined $200 by the P.G.A. in October 1970 after Dave Hill complained that Rodriguez had distracted him during the Kaiser Open in California when he sought to amuse spectators with a simulated attempt to bat a golf ball with a bunker rake.

Rodriguez always maintained that he meant no disrespect to the game. But, as he once put it: “Golf is show business. I love to make people laugh.”

For all his success, Rodriguez never forgot his origins, having been inspired to help others by his father’s generosity to those who had even less than him.

After visiting a Florida juvenile detention center to give a golf clinic, he vowed to do more. In 1979, he became a founder of the Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation, which provides counseling, educational and vocational training for disadvantaged students, and he contributed substantially to its funding. The Clearwater complex, in Clearwater, Fla., now includes a public-private academy for students from the fourth to eighth grades.

“I love kids because I never was a kid,” Rodriguez once said. “I was too poor to be a kid.”

Juan Antonio Rodriguez Jr. was born on Oct. 23, 1935, in Rio Piedras, P.R., one of six children. Beyond golf, he played baseball as a young man and called himself Chi Chi after the Puerto Rican professional baseball player Chi Chi Flores.

He served in the Army in the mid-1950s and then became the assistant pro at the Dorado Beach Resort in Puerto Rico, outside San Juan. He received a $12,000 stake from Laurance S. Rockefeller, who developed the property, to help finance Rodriguez’s beginnings on the PGA Tour. His eight victories included the 1964 Western Open and the 1972 Byron Nelson Classic.

Rodriguez joined the Senior Tour in 1985 and became one of its top money winners, crediting the teaching pro Bob Toski with improving his game. “Bob told me to stand taller,” he said. “At least, as tall as someone like me can stand. It helped my swing and it helped my putting.”

In his later years he lived at the El Legado Golf Resort, which he built, in Guayama, on the island’s south coast. In May 2010, masked nighttime intruders tied him up along with his wife, Iwalani, and robbed them of cash and jewels valued at $500,000.

Rodriguez is survived by a daughter, Donnette Markham; two brothers, Jesus and Julio; and three sisters, Juanita, Carmen and Maria. His wife, a native of Hawaii, died in 2021.

Rodriguez complemented his flair on the golf course with a host of wry observations, often at his own expense.

On his youth: “I was poor when I was starting out. I mean, I had a room so small I couldn’t even change my mind.”

On his persona: “I’m a hot dog pro. That’s when someone in the gallery looks at his pairing sheet and says, ‘Here comes Joe Baloney, Sam Sausage and Chi Chi Rodriguez. Let’s go get a hot dog.’”

On his putting problems: “I read the greens in Spanish, but I putt in English.”

Over 434 senior players from 27 Local Tours competed in the 2023 Senior National Championship!

Hilton head island, s.c.  – this year’s tournament marked the 25th anniversary of the senior amateur tour. in all, 434 players competed in the two-day event and each one of our 27 local tours was represented. in the championship flight ,  chad frank  won his first senior national championship, but he is no stranger to being a national champion since he earned the title in 2007 as the golfweek amateur tour champion.  frank  opened the 2023 tournament at golden bear with a three-under-par round of 69 and a two-shot lead over bill shufelt and don o’malley.  the players all went to oyster reef for the second day to determine our 2023 senior national champion. going into the back nine trent gregory , bill shufelt , tony burbridge and ernie watson all put pressure on chad frank . frank stood on the 17th tee box with a comfortable lead until he double bogied the hole and shufelt only trailed by one shot. shufelt hit first and piped it right down the eighteenth fairway while frank hit his ball right and landed almost out of bounds under a bunch of trees. frank punched out and landed about 70 yards from the green while shufelt hit it on the green about 25 feet away for birdie. frank then hit the shot of the day going from 70 yards away to about 5 feet. shufelt rolled his putt and just missed on the low side before he tapped in for par. despite the pressure, frank found the cup and completed the amazing up and down for the victory. congratulations to all that battled on the back nine before we crowned chad frank with his first senior national championship., chad frank , dowless, fowler and averett were either tied or held the lead outright.  in the end, on the final hole of the round, dowless finally won and earned bragging rights. fowler fired a 75 losing by one Freak injury reignited passion and dedication for U.S. Amateur finalist

The University of Iowa's Noah Kent will face off against Arizona State's Jose Luis Ballester in the U.S. Amateur final.

CHASKA, Minn. — When Iowa sophomore Noah Kent arrives on the first tee Sunday morning at Hazeltine National for the 36-hole final of the 124th U.S. Amateur, he has plenty of people to thank, including notable mentors John Harris, champion of the 1993 U.S. Amateur, and John Cook, the 1978 U.S. Am champ who won 11 times on the PGA Tour. But perhaps more than anything, Kent has his own mistake of “being a kid” last year to credit.

MORE: Noah Kent explains why he picked golf over hockey

Kent, a Naples, Fla., native, admitted with a hint of embarrassment earlier this week that he was riding on an ATV last summer when he broke his wrist. The injury was all the more frustrating because he had to withdraw from the U.S. Junior Amateur, the first USGA championship for which he’d qualified.

After this week, Kent, 19, may no longer look back at the ATV accident with embarrassment, but instead gratefulness, as the rising sophomore at Iowa attributes the ensuing 11-week layoff from golf with sparking a newfound passion and competitiveness for the game.

“It's all up here in my heart,” Kent said after defeating Illinois All-American Jackson Buchanan, 2 up, in the semifinals on Saturday to set a final matchup with World Amateur No. 10 Jose Luis Ballester, of Spain. “I have way more competitiveness. I feel like I have a lot more belief in myself, and I have a lot more drive to want to get where I want to go. So, I just feel like I want it a lot more than I used to.”

Through six days at the U.S. Amateur, Kent has not only refused to let the biggest moments of his career expose flaws in his game, but he has proved that it is in those moments that he plays his best. After opening with a first-round 77 at Hazeltine National, Kent battled back with a Tuesday 64 at Chaska Town Course (stroke-play co-host) to reach match play, a format that he relishes. “I love whenever the pressure gets really high, and I've been feeling it the whole week,” he said.

Kent says that he was born with that competitive hunger, but for 12 years that passion was not for the game of golf. Instead, he played a variety of sports, most notably hockey, as golf was a sideline interest more so brought about by his family’s connection to the game than his own ambition. Kent’s father, David, competed in the 1990 U.S. Junior Amateur and his stepfather is golf course architect Dana Fry, who co-designed the two courses Kent grew up playing, Calusa Pines and Naples National.

After meeting Rory McIlroy at the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills, a course co-designed by Fry, Kent came home and told his parents his interests had shifted. “I didn't really love golf, but I met Rory at the U.S. Open in 2017, and that kind of switched my whole view of golf,” he said.

As Kent got more into golf, he found several notable mentors through the membership at Calusa Pines and Fry’s connections, including Harris and Cook. In addition to winning the 1993 U.S. Am as the last mid-amateur player to do so, Harris, a Minnesota native, played on four U.S. Walker Cup teams and won the 2001 USGA Men’s State Team Championship at Hazeltine.

Harris helped Kent with many aspects of the game, but more than anything, Kent says it’s the self-belief that Harris infused into him that has made the biggest impact.

“You're as good as anybody in the field,” Kent said of Harris’ message to him this week. “Now everybody can compete, but it's, like, you belong, and you're better than every single one of them here. It's just having the self-confidence in yourself.”

It’s that reassurance that has Kent dedicating his play this week to Harris, who is battling health issues back home in Florida. Kent has Harris’ initials written on his glove this week in honor of him.

The past 12 months have been a breakout stretch for Kent, who won the prestigious Jones Cup Invitational at Ocean Forest G.C. in Sea Island, Ga., in January before winning a collegiate event at the nearby Sea Island Resort just a few months later. All of it, Kent says, was sparked by that layoff from the wrist injury which stirred a desire to be great.

“I'm a really competitive person, whether that's playing here or that's playing just a fun game with friends,” Kent said. “I just bring the same intensity and energy the whole entire day.”

Helping Kent channel that intensity at Hazeltine have been a raucous group of supporters, including three uncles and numerous other buddies who on Saturday were wearing Caitlin Clark shirts and making it known that although we’re one state over, this was a hometown crowd for the Hawkeye.

Ballester, a three-time All-American at Arizona State, will have to overcome Kent’s crowd support if he is to become the first non-American U.S. Amateur champion since Viktor Hovland in 2018.

Ballester played nearly flawless golf in making four birdies against no bogeys to defeat fellow countryman and good friend Luis Masaveu, 3 and 2, in the semifinals. In doing so, Ballester is the first player from Spain to reach a U.S. Amateur final, besting Sergio Garcia’s semifinal run in 1998. Adding to Sunday’s excitement for Ballester is the fact that he will celebrate his 21st birthday.

“I think I'm still not conscious of what just happened today,” Ballester said. “It's an unbelievable feeling. I'm super grateful for the opportunity I'm going to have tomorrow to compete in the final of the U. S. Amateur Championship.”

For the past couple of rounds, Ballester has been the highest-ranked player left in the field, and on Saturday, that standing showed with exquisite ball-striking. “I think probably because I was playing with a friend, maybe made it easier,” Ballester said of his great play on Saturday. “Again, starting the round, I felt like I was making really good swings, striping the ball really good.”

After finishing his match, Ballester received a call from friend and mentor Sergio Garcia. Ballester is from the same region of Spain as Garcia and has worked on his swing with Garcia’s dad, Victor, for about seven years. “Sergio's been following really close all week,” Ballester said. “He just called me saying congrats. So it's pretty sweet seeing all those great players rooting for you.”

“I know that whatever happens tomorrow, it's probably the best week of my life,” he added.

With their wins in the semifinals, Kent and Ballester are exempt into the 2025 U.S. Open, and they both will likely receive invitations to the Masters. The championship match is set to begin at 7:15 a.m. CT.

Pga tour releases its 2025 schedule with no involvement of liv golf in sight.

Doug Ferguson

Associated Press

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The PGA Tour released its 2025 schedule on Wednesday with no real surprises and every indication the tour and Saudi-backed LIV Golf will be going their separate ways at least until 2026.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said talks with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia are “complicated discussions” but that the sides continue to meet as they try to work out a deal for an investment with the commercial PGA Tour Enterprises.

“As it relates to times and timeframes and where we are, I'd just say that we're in a good place with the conversations,” he said. “That's the most important thing.”

Asked if the release of the 2025 schedule suggested there would be no involvement with LIV through 2026 or 2027, Monahan replied, “That's fair.”

The only real change in the schedule was putting the Memorial and the RBC Canadian Open back to where they were previously — the Memorial on May 29 through June 1, followed by the Canadian Open and then the U.S. Open at Oakmont.

In an effort to create space between the signature events this year, the Memorial was the week before the U.S. Open — a week after Memorial Day — and Memorial host Jack Nicklaus expressed his displeasure.

The 2025 season begins Jan. 2 with the Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua. Without the Olympics on the calendar, the regular season ends Aug. 24 at the Tour Championship. The rest of the tournaments are in the same order as 2024.

The eight signature events now will have a minimum of 72 players. There were times last year the field dipped below 70 if there was a withdrawal.

LIV Golf players, such as Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, are only together with the best of the PGA Tour at the four majors if eligible.

Rory McIlroy, who is on a transaction subcommittee that is negotiating with PIF , said he hasn't been on a call since the first week of June. He had referenced conference calls that occur on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but “players aren't expected to hop on those.”

Patrick Cantlay in on the board of the PGA Tour and the for-profit PGA Tour Enterprises and noticed that chatter has “definitely quieted down.”

“There’s going to be ebbs and flows, depending on what kind of information comes out or what announcements,” he said. “But I know all of us are working incredibly hard all the time to get the best outcome.”

The only other changes to the 2025 schedule are the venues. The BMW Championship is the only postseason event that moves around, and it will return to Caves Valley outside Baltimore next year, the course where Cantlay rallied to beat DeChambeau in a playoff.

The U.S. Open returns to Oakmont for the first time since 2016. The PGA Championship will be at Quail Hollow for the second time, and the British Open goes to Royal Portrush, a quick turnaround for the links in Northern Ireland where Shane Lowry won in 2019.

The Truist Championship is moving from Quail Hollow next year because of the PGA Championship and will be held at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
