These new settlers came full of hope, looking for new opportunities. But with hope inevitably came dashed dreams and human tragedy.

Our tour offers an uncompromising look at what makes San Francisco such a haunted location. Every story you hear on the tour will showcase the real history and well-researched tragedy that hides at the city’s fringes. San Francisco is one of the most active otherworldly locations in the country, and after taking the San Francisco Ghosts tour, you will know why.

Whether we talk about the once-grand Nob Hill mansions that were leveled by the earthquake or the tragic death of a heroic Fire Chief, you will not be able to get these blood-chilling stories out of your mind long after the tour ends.

Learn about the devastation and heartbreak that followed the great earthquake of 1906.

Why You Should Book Your San Francisco Ghost Tour Tonight!

You want to know the real story of San Francisco

The stories we have don’t appear on any of the Clamper plaques around the city, and certainly not in any guidebook. Each stop on our 8 or 12 location tours gives you a vivid and memorable look into the real story of San Francisco. Unvarnished, and unleashed, San Francisco has many ghosts in its closet. Like the Fairmont Hotel, one of the few structures still standing after the 1909 earthquake, subsequent tragic accidents gave rise to rumors of a curse, one of the original pair of sisters that built the hotel even comes back occasionally in spectral form to check up on how their hotel is doing.

You will hear other stories that will bring alive the complex and evocative history of San Francisco and the Bay Area. The research process turned up stories from further afield in Northern California, some of which we could not include in the San Francisco Ghosts walking tour, so we included them in our blog of haunted stories of the San Francisco area

You only have a short time in the city.

If you are looking for an activity just after dinner, and before the city comes alive at night, our hour-long ghost tour can help you get the most out of your short time in San Francisco.

The stories come thick and fast as you take our standard tour of a one-mile route around San Francisco’s Nob Hill and Union Square neighborhoods. You will not only touch the history of the city but hear the fascinating stories of the people who make up the living, breathing history of this amazing city, and their everlasting remains; ghosts.

More fun than any museum and you get more up close and personal than any tour bus. Our expert local guides will show you a side of San Francisco that not many locals get to see. That is another reason people who have lived here all their lives often join the San Francisco Ghosts tour, they sometimes add additional facts and stories to the tour, but even locals always learn something new about the City by the Bay.

You are a skeptic of the Supernatural.

Our tours happen in the twilight hours, click on the book now button to see the exact tour times, you will set out just as darkness is falling, and the spirits are just waking up. We have had many people on the tour experience an unusual chill, and not because Karl the fog is rolling in. That’s right, the legendary San Francisco Fog has a name, and even a Twitter account !  The chills our tour guests experience are from glimpses of the occasional ghost or an unexplained feeling. This isn’t guaranteed, and wouldn’t expect a sighting to change the mind of a hardened skeptic, but we have expanded the horizons of quite a few people over the years. We would welcome the chance to expand your receptivity to the supernatural.

Perhaps you will become one of the many people who have seen the Wandering Bride of California Street. She has a very mysterious story, we know some details, an arranged marriage to the son of her father’s business partner, a disappearance on the night of her presentation to society, the mysterious discovery of her body in Montana years later. She is often seen in her wedding dress hurrying down California Street at night.

You want something the whole family will enjoy

Everyone can learn something about San Francisco and be entertained at the same time. The whole family can enjoy San Francisco Ghosts, and the stories are not so scary as to cost younger ghost enthusiasts a night of sleep, but they will be remembered for years to come.

We believe a good story is the best souvenir, and we have 8 or 12 stories for you that are made even more memorable because you will be standing on the exact spots where the remarkable events from history happened. You don’t get the same experience from the seat of a bus whizzing by these places.

A walking tour is the only way to be able to reach out and touch the stones of the Sutter building and run your hands over the bizarre Mayan designs. They include the World Tree symbol, a traditional sign of a connection between the world of the living and the dead. The building has recorded a lot of unexplained happenings over the years. The story about how a building constructed in the 1920s to house medical professionals came to have a set of symbols from a long-dead civilization thousands of miles away is a fascinating one.

Book your spot to find out more, and be thoroughly entertained on the haunted streets of San Francisco.

Visit the Most Haunted Places in Seattle

Beneath the world-famous Space Needls and Pike’s Place Market, behind the moody music scene and the booming breweries, are ancient burial grounds and a past of violence and tragedy. Seattly is a city of unfinished business, and once it’s gotten ahold of you, it will never let go.

Seattle Terrors takes you to some of Seattly’s most haunted buildings and places that still resonate with violence, greed, betrayal, and murder. Discover why Seattly is a hotspot for otherworldly activity amidst ancient burial grounds and gold rush prospectors still hunting for lost fortunes.

Post Alley/Gum Wall

In Pike Place Market, just outside of Post Alley, is the infamous Gum Wall, covered in chewing gum. It began with a tradition of theatergoers using gum to stick a penny to the wall for good luck. Soon, the penny dropped, but the gum remained. Next to the gum wall in Post Alley, many ghosts still linger to this day. There’s Frank, an elderly and tall ghost who greets people by name outside the bathroom of a Post Alley club. Then there’s Ghost Alley Espresso, which claims to have the ghost of Arthur Goodwin, one of Pike Place Market’s first managers.

Heaven’s Gate Tile

The otherwordly and nefarious Heavens Gate Cult believed that the Hale-Bopp comet would take them away to the Kingdom of Heaven. Marshall Applewhite and his followers committed the largest mass suicide in US History to board this supposed spaceship. In 1985, during a fundraiser, the deadly cult purchased a tile in Pike Place Market. Could some of their souls be stuck to it like gum under a shoe? Many who have heard phantom footsteps while standing on the tile tend to think so.

Moore Theatre

Many people say the Moore Theatre is the most haunted places in the city – so much so that many ghost hunters have made their way over the Pacific Northwest just to investigate. An old theater built in 1907 was the city’s first entertainment venue. Many people rumor that this is the place where Kurt Cobain overdoes and died. Others say Moore himself still roams the theater with some early actresses who once graced the stage.

Test your bravery, and join us!

What to expect on your seattle ghost tour.

Are you curious about the underlying stories behind Seattle’s ghosts? Finally, you’ll uncover the fascinating layers of Seattle’s history. You’ll meet Chief Seattle’s daughter, Kiksoblu, who still haunts Pike Place Market, daring undertakers who gambled on Seattle’s high death tolls, and the 100 Victorian women imported to Seattle from Boston to balance the male-female population. This fact-based ghost tour educates, captivates, and keeps you wanting more.

Later on, in Seattle’s sordid history, more modern serial killers like Ted Bundy lived here. Gary Ridgeway, the Green River Killer, prowled Seattle’s streets searching for his 49 confirmed victims from the edges of society; he was a hideous and deranged monster – evil to his core. It’s no wonder the dead linger in the shadows of Cascadia City, watching the living and pining for validation, fortune, and fame. Cursed burial grounds and a violent past have left a legacy of restless spirits that prowl in the night, seeking justice, vengeance, and revenge.

Seattle has ghost stories aplenty, from the original owners of the land to the many prospectors killed for their nuggets of Yukon Gold. Underneath dark clouds and never-ending rain showers is a city built on the blood of prospectors, prostitutes, and preachers, with the echoes of their violent deeds left behind for eternity.

Discover the Horrors that Haunt Seattle

Learn hair-raising accounts of shadow figures linger around LaSalle Hotel, with one that beckons you to follow.

Visit the dens of sin that evolved to accommodate Seattle’s renegade population and the ghosts left behind.

Discover chilling accounts of ghosts that stalk ancient Native American burial grounds under popular tourist attractions.

Check out where Gypsy Lee Rose danced her last show and where victims of serial killer Linda Hazzard took her last breath.

Take a walk past the famous stalking grounds for serial killers like Ted Bundy and Gary Ridgway and hear their evil tales.

Why You Should Book Your Seattle Ghost Tour Tonight!

An Authentic Ghost Tour Based on Facts from history

Even if we didn’t mention a single ghost Seattle is a fascinating place, with a religious start, a rough and ready early history, and a collaborative and progressive recent history. This rich tapestry of history gives these ghost stories a secure standing in time, and the ghost stories bring the historical eras to life in a grim and fascinating way.

Like the cobblestones on the haunted Post Alley, they were ballast in ships from San Francisco, where the rubble from the earthquake was loaded into ships to be taken away. The stones arrived with their tragic energy just after the 1904 Earthquake that flattened much of the city.

We guarantee you will be entertained, informed and just a little bit scared by the stories of horror and haunting that leap out of the pages of the history books.

Entertaining, with a historical twist

Your guides are down to earth local experts, specially trained and deeply involved in the tour. Each adds their personal touch, their favorite stories, and their unique sense of humor. When you have to explain why outside the Market Theatre there is a wall caked in inches of used gum , you can only wonder at the thoughts that go through people’s minds. The City of Seattle at one time removed over a metric ton of gum from the famous gum wall.

Even in the depths of human tragedy and the eternal suffering of ghosts, your tour guides have to keep their sense of humor, and we look forward to seeing smiles on your face as we enlighten and entertain.

Entertainment for everyone

We don’t want to cause any sleepless (In Seattle) nights, especially for any younger tour members, but we do want to give you spooky stories to remember for years to come. A perfect souvenir of your time in Seattle. They say an experience is better than an object, and this experience will stay with your whole group, whenever you think of Seattle, you will think Ghosts!

While standing at Pike Place Market, you’ll hear about the hundreds of empty stalls that were left after 110,000 Japanese Americans were interred in camps for the duration of the Second World War, and the huge influence they had on the culture of Seattle.

Learn New Stories about the Rain capital of the northwest

Perhaps as a young person in the countryside, one might be paid for collecting Varmint. Farmers, landowners, or even the State would reward you for taking away unwanted visitors for helping rid the fields and skies of pests, collecting a nickel for a rat, or a dollar for a Racoon say.

In Seattle, at the turn of the last century, the same system was employed by the City of Seattle, except the unwanted pest was human corpses. The rough and dirty town had a very high mortality rate, form disease, violence, and too much of everything. Undertakers would be paid $50 to remove corpses from the streets, something the residents understandably did not take kindly to. We will question whether, like Varmint hunters, the undertakers might have been a little too enterprising in their pursuit of the bounties?

Even if you are a Non-Believer – fun is guaranteed.

Ghosts appear and respond more to the young, and animals, who don’t have the barriers of disbelief and denial that most adults do. Both ends of the spectrum of believers in the supernatural are welcome on the Seattle Terrors tours. Your guides won’t try and change your mind either way, but we do guarantee that whatever your attitude to ghosts, you will have a good and memorable tour through the spooky streets of Seattle.

It is hard not to believe that the ghost of Kikisoblu , daughter of the Duwamish people’s Chief when Seattle was just getting going, still haunts the Pike Place Market. In her trademark red cape, selling her trinkets and posing for photographs, just like she did after the rest of her tribe was forced to move to reservations away from their ancestral lands. She has been outfoxing police officers and tourists ever since.

In Town and Not Sure of What to Do.

Seattle has many ways to occupy your days. Lots of them are food-related Seattle dogs, Oysters, or Chowder fries , perhaps? Or the SAM, Seattle art Museum , but that closes at 5 pm… To really get the most out of your time in Seattle, you should really consider the Seattle Terrors walking tour, just after dinner, and before the night really kicks off.

Your tour will take you to the places you really should know about in Seattle, but instead of just going there and seeing the nice buildings, we’ll give you the historical scoop and make those facts stick with stories of the resident ghosts and ghouls.

A Memorable Experience.

It’s the ghosts that make Seattle memorable, but as well as hearing the scary ghost tales you also get the history of this fascinating city. For example, the Butterworth & Sons Mortuary on busy First Avenue was a state of the art shop and factory for disposing of the dead. Including the first corpse elevator on the West Coast. The mortuary backs onto Post Alley, where corpses would be piled up after a particularly violent night in Seattle.  The Alley also has its own ghost story. Join the tour to find out her story.

French Quarter Phantoms | New Orleans, LA

With its colorful history and historic buildings, it’s no surprise that the French Quarter (the oldest and most famous neighborhood in New Orleans) is filled with ghosts, ghouls, and other lingering spirits. There are few better ways to get the inside scoop than with the story-telling skills of French Quarter Phantoms. 9.  Alcatraz Night Tour | San Francisco, CA

Alcatraz Night Tour | San Francisco, CA

Alcatraz, a small island in the middle of the bay outside of San Francisco, is one of the most famous prisons in the world. From 1934-1963, it served as a maximum security federal penitentiary that housed some of the most dangerous and notorious criminals at the time. Touring Alcatraz is a popular attraction in San Francisco, but most people experience the landmark during the day. The nighttime tour, however, is the way to go—not only are there fewer crowds and stunning sunset views of the bay, but park rangers offer special programming after dark, such as talks on former inmates like Al Capone, and open up limited access rooms. Trust us, there’s something particularly eerie about experiencing this former jail at night and hearing stories of the prisoner’s past, including escape attempts.

Ghost Announce 2023 ‘Re-Imperatour’ U.S. Tour Dates With Amon Amarth

Ghost have announced their first set of U.S. tour dates for 2023. Dubbed the  Re-Imperatour,  the 27-date tour will feature Amon Amarth as the opener.

The run will kick off Aug. 2 in Concord, Calif. and wrap up Sept. 11 in Los Angeles at the renowned Kia Forum. Amon Amarth will join Ghost throughout the entirety of the tour, except for the Los Angeles show. Tickets go on sale this Friday, Feb. 17 at 10AM local time.

Earlier this year, Ghost leader Tobias Forge teased that "good change" would be coming to the band prior to embarking on any of their 2023 tours.

“We’re going to come out with a little bit of change before that – good change," the vocalist told Metal Hammer . "We’re not going to go silent. Some things are public, other things not in public view, but there are a lot of things brewing.”

While it's unclear what Forge was alluding to, Ghost have undergone quite a bit of change as it is over the last several months, especially when their 2019 song "Mary on a Cross" went viral on TikTok , which exposed the band to a whole new fanbase.

As per Setlist.fm , Ghost's most recent concert took place in September. They have a European tour scheduled throughout May and June before returning to the U.S. in August. Check out tickets for the European shows here .

Get Goosebumps in Columbus: Ghost Tours & Haunted Buildings

Did you know that R.L. Stine, renowned author of the Goosebumps and Fear Street phenomenon, was born in Columbus? #yesColumbus. This Halloween season, we’re taking a cue from the Ohioan himself and seeking out places in Columbus that give us, well, goosebumps. Join us if you dare.

The spooky season is upon us, so grab your friends, crack open a pumpkin beer and turn on those ghost detector apps you pretend you don’t have. Columbus is home to several haunted historic sites, and we’ve got the inside scoop of what you may (er, may not?) see. If you’re a mom or dad reading this, treat yourself to a parents' night out and leave the little ones at home. There are plenty of fun ways to celebrate Halloween as a family in Columbus.

A black and white image of Kelton House Museum & Garden

Kelton House Museum & Garden

Built by Fernando Cortez Kelton in 1852, Kelton House Museum & Garden is as spooky as it is sophisticated. After housing multiple generations of Keltons until 1975, this Greek Revival and Italianate-style mansion was donated to Columbus. It reopened as a museum in 1979 with impressive displays of the family’s 19th-century furniture, paintings, china, silver, crystal, books, music boxes, family photographs and sculpted Victorian gardens, and is currently owned and operated by the Junior League of Columbus.

Despite the makeover, the home’s storied past isn’t put to rest – literally. Fernando’s son, Oscar, who was killed in the Civil War, is often spotted smoking in the garden in full war uniform. After bringing Oscar’s body home, Fernando fell out of a second-floor window, broke his femur and eventually succumbed to his injuries. Before he died, six men carried Fernando to his bedroom. Staff frequently report seeing the ghosts of those men walk upstairs, as well as Fernando’s daughter, Anna, wearing a burgundy dress and weeping over her family's deaths. We can only hope these eight ghosts are also responsible for the unexplained whispers, rearranged furniture and closed doors opening on their own, or there may be another past resident lurking.

Greenlawn Cemetery in the Fall

Source: Green Lawn Cemetery

Green Lawn Cemetery

Did you know the second-largest cemetery in Ohio is right here in Columbus? Unsurprising for a place filled with over 150,000 dead bodies, most of whom are governors, presidential families, veterans and prominent politicians, Green Lawn Cemetery is believed to be rife with spiritual activity. Its largest mausoleum, Hayden Mausoleum, holds the remains of successful banker Charles H. Hayden and his extended family. Knock on its chained doors and someone just might knock back from the inside.

Ohio Statehouse

Source: Ohio Statehouse

Ohio Statehouse

It’s no wonder Ohio Statehouse is haunted. Before it became the meeting place of Ohio’s highest-ranking politicians, it was a Civil War Hospital built by Ohio Penitentiary inmates during a cholera epidemic. The ghosts here run the gamut. Think: Civil War soldiers, prisoners who died during construction, a weeping “Lady in Gray,” a dancing Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Bateman, a senate clerk who left the office at 5 p.m. sharp, every day, for 52 years. Go at 5 p.m. on any workday, and you might see lights flicker as a cold chill fills the Statehouse corridors – it's a sign Bateman is still lingering.

Thurber House

When an insane asylum mysteriously burns down next to your house, lock your doors and stay inside. Unless you live at Thurber House – a nonprofit literary center and museum that was once the home of the late author and cartoonist James Thurber – where staying outside might actually be wiser. Thurber and guests alike have reported appearances by a male ghost, phantom footsteps, a broken clock that started working out of the blue and books thrown at passersby seemingly out of thin air. These ghoulish antics are believed to be the work of dead asylum fire victims or the ghost of a man who shot himself at Thurber house after he caught his wife having an affair. No matter the source, they inspired Thurber to write The Night the Ghost Got In and spurred Ghost Hunters to film an episode about the house in 2010.

10 Delightfully Spooky Ghost Tours in the Most Haunted Cities Around the World

From the ancient cities of europe to the enigmatic swamps of new orleans, there’s a supernaturally charged tour to put you in the halloween spirit..

All the telltale signs that summer is ending are afoot—swimsuits on sale, a twinge of autumn crispness in the air, fading suntans. But that also means one of the best holidays of the year is right around the corner: Halloween.

The tradition of Halloween traces its roots back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain , which was celebrated in present-day areas of the United Kingdom and France between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice, a time of the year when days become shorter and the nights longer. Samhain was celebrated as a harvest festival, but it was also believed that the veil between this world and the next was thinnest during the holiday.

After Britannia was conquered by the Roman Empire, Celtic Samhain tradition blended with Roman and, later, Christian influences. The term “Halloween” is derived from All Saints’ Day , an autumnal holiday held to honor the saints, and was called “ Alholowmesse ” or “All-Hallows” in Middle English. The day before All-Hallows was known as “All-Hallows Eve,” which evolved over the years into Halloween. Halloween was imported to the United States by European immigrants, particularly the Irish during the 19th century, when it would take on an American spin.

There’s no better way to give yourself the creepy crawlies than to tempt the supernatural and embark on a ghost tour during spooky season. Halloween and its sister holidays (like Día de los Muertos , celebrated on November 1 to honor deceased relatives) can be found in in some way or another in nearly every European country as well as those touched by European colonization.

Here are 10 of the best ghost tours you should consider this Halloween.

Savannah, Georgia is a perfect destination for ghost hunters in the South seeking a thrill.

1. Savannah, Georgia

Tour to check out: Genteel & Bard’s Savannah Dark History & Ghost Encounter Tour Starting price: $30

Well, I do declare—this coastal Georgian city has a reputation for being one of the most ghoulishly delightful locations in the United States. In 2002, Savannah was even given the title of the most haunted city in the country by the American Institute of Parapsychology . Savannah has seen both American Revolution and Civil War battles , a yellow fever outbreak in the late 19th century followed by a devastating fire, and a long, horrifying history of slavery—all of which have contributed the city’s distinctly historic and somber atmosphere.

Though there are several types of tours you can take in the Hostess City of the South, some of the most popular ghost tours in Savannah are hosted by Genteel & Bard , a family-owned company that specializes in walking tours. Its Savannah Dark History & Ghost Encounter Tour takes guests on a journey through some of the city’s most haunted locations with a knowledgeable storyteller. The tour lasts about two hours and covers three-quarters of a mile—the guide uses a wireless microphone that will transmit audio to a small wireless receiver and a set of earbuds given to each guest. During their time with Genteel & Bard in Savannah, guests can expect to see Sorrel-Weed House, which is home to several Civil War–era specters; the Wright “hanging” square, where a Yamacraw chief’s grave was desecrated and an Irish indentured servant was later hung; and the Foley House Inn, where a skeleton was discovered in a wall in 1987.

2. Paris, France

Tour to check out: The Catacombs of Paris Starting price: $27

What would be a better way to ring in Halloween than by descending into the infamous catacombs of Paris? During the 17th century when Paris was experiencing intense population growth, the city’s cemeteries were, at some points, literally overflowing with corpses. The problem became so egregious that during heavy rains in 1780, a wall broke in the Les Innocents Cemetery causing a wave of rotting bodies to flood into a nearby property. So, citizens turned to its network of underground limestone mining tunnels that were dug during the 13th century. It took nearly 12 years to move the bones of Paris’s overflowing cemeteries into the catacombs—a total of 6 to 7 million people—and during the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror , bodies were buried directly in the tunnels.

The practice of burying people in Paris’s catacombs ended in 1860; it’s estimated that there are over 200 miles of bone-ridden passageways beneath the city. It is illegal to explore the vast majority of the tunnels, but a small portion is open to the public. The best way to see them is by booking a tour with Las Catacombes de Paris , which gives access to two miles of the underground system. Though you could simply buy a ticket and explore by yourself, guided tours that dive deep into the history of the city and catacombs are also available. Unfortunately, this activity is not accessible for wheelchair users or people with mobility disabilities since entering the catacombs requires a long trip down 131 stairs.

There are 42 cemeteries in the New Orleans area—31 of them are considered to be historic.

3. New Orleans, Louisiana

Tour to check out: Haunted History Tours Starting price: $30

Along with Savannah, New Orleans has a reputation for being one of the most haunted U.S. cities. In fact, it’s been used as a spooky backdrop in several Hollywood productions like True Blood , American Horror Story: Coven , and Interview With a Vampire . There’s just something about this 300-year-old city with its French colonial–style mansions, mausoleums, and Spanish moss that feels both beautiful and unnerving, providing the perfect setting for a scary story.

New Orleans, though well-known for Mardi Gras and Southern hospitality, has a history that’s been marred by several tragic events, including the genocide and forced removal of the Indigenous population, a smattering of yellow fever outbreaks, and the city’s role as a major slave port. In fact, before the Civil War, New Orleans was seen as the epicenter of the U.S. slave trade . The Big Easy is also sometimes called the northernmost Caribbean city and there’s still a tinge of obeah or voodoo in the air.

New Orleans–based Haunted History Tours offers 10 different ways to explore the city’s dark side. Guests can pick among options like a spooky walking tour through the Garden District or a stroll through the Cities of the Dead (a local nickname for the cemeteries filled with raised mausoleums that look like little buildings) on its Cemetery Tour. Those interested in a more boozy affair could opt for the Haunted Pub Crawl , which takes guests on a quest through some of the city’s most haunted bars, where signature NOLA cocktails like sazeracs are available.

Another popular option in the city is a guided walk hosted by Unique NOLA Tours . This company has a wide docket of options to peruse through, from their naughty Lewd Spirits Tour (which combines “raunchy ghost stories” with “seedy haunted bars”) to their Pestilence, Pandemic, and Plague Tour which takes guests on a journey through the many epidemics and disease outbreaks the Big Easy has weathered over the years—if you can handle that after the past few years. They also have a Spooky Family Ghost Tour if you’re hoping to bring the kids along. Tickets starts at $37 per person.

4. Edinburgh, Scotland

Tour to check out: City of the Dead’s Haunted Graveyard Tour Starting price: $16

Edinburgh has served as the capital of Scotland since 1437—it’s an old city. It also is widely considered one of the most haunted places in Europe with a history rife with witches, warlocks, ghosts, body snatchers, and other paranormal things that go bump in the night. For example, during the Salem Witch Trials, 185 people were accused of practicing witchcraft. In Scotland, an estimated 4,000–6,000 people were put on trial for being witches—the vast majority of whom were tortured and then executed. And, of course, there’s Edinburgh Castle, said to be one of the most haunted castles in Europe; it’s seen no less than 23 attacks to capture it over the years, most helmed by the English.

One of the most popular ghost tours in the city is hosted by City of the Dead , a Scottish touring company owned by Black Hart Entertainment. Its Haunted Graveyard Tour gives visitors access to Edinburgh’s Covenanter’s Prison and the Black Mausoleum, home to the Mackenzie Poltergeist , one of the most well-documented paranormal phenomena in history. City of the Dead’s tours employ both historians and entertainers, so guests are sure to have a good time while learning a thing or two.

5. Montego Bay, Jamaica

Tour to check out: Rose Hall Night Tour Starting price: $27

Though it’s better known for scenic Caribbean beaches and a busy airport, Montego Bay, Jamaica, also happens to be home to one of the most infamous ghosts on the island: the White Witch of Rose Hall. Ever since the British expelled Spanish colonists from the island in 1655, Jamaica played an important role in the Triangle Trade and the production of sugarcane and rum. Jamaica was widely regarded as one of the worst places to be an enslaved person, with many enslavers like Thomas Thistlewood treating Africans with inhuman cruelty, violence, and brutality.

One of the worst offenders on the island was said to be Annie Palmer, the mistress of Rose Hall near Montego Bay. Though much of the lore surrounding her story is fiction, the legend goes that Palmer ruled her plantation with an iron fist and murdered all three of her husbands. Afterwards, she began taking enslaved men as lovers, but when she tired of them, she would have them done away with as well. After Palmer was killed by one of her servants, she was supposedly sealed in a special voodoo-charmed casket so her spirit could never rise again. However, it’s said that the spell didn’t take and that her ghost still wanders the plantation. Her story was immortalized in the 1973 Johnny Cash song “ The Ballad of Annie Palmer .” The singer was so intrigued by the tale that he actually purchased the Cinnamon Hill Great House on the property.

The great house was restored during the 1960s and is now open to the public for tours. There are day tours available, but for the ultimate spooky experience, try attending the night tour . Though Annie Palmer’s tale might be more fiction than fact, you’ll learn about how the European bourgeoisie lived during the colonial era and the cruelty that their enslaved workforce endured.

6. Singapore

Tour to check out: Oriental Travel and Tours’ Creepy Tales of Singapore Starting price: $100

Despite being one of the safest cities on the planet, Singapore also boasts a reputation as one of the most haunted cities in Asia. With a history entangled with World War II battles and Japanese and British colonies, this city-state has seen more than its fair share of bloodshed over the years. Changi Beach, considered one of the most paranormally disturbed places in Singapore, was the site of the infamous Sook Ching Massacre . During World War II and Japanese occupation, thousands of Chinese men suspected of anti-Japanese sentiments were rounded up and executed, then buried underneath the sand. It’s said that beachgoers can still sometimes catch the sounds of men crying and screaming.

Oriental Travel and Tours’ Creepy Tales of Singapore experience takes guests to Sook Ching beach as well as a few other scary places. They include the largest Chinese-style cemetery in the world outside of China, Bukit Brown —it’s estimated to hold more than 100,000 tombs. Tours are held in English and the cost of the ticket includes transport between all the different points on the four-hour itinerary.

7. San Antonio, Texas

Tour to check out: Sisters Grimm’s Haunted History Walk Starting price: $25

One of the oldest cities in Texas, San Antonio was founded in 1718, nearly 100 years before Austin was established. It also has a reputation as the most haunted city in the Lone Star State. There’s the Black Swan Inn, which once had a hanging tree on the premises and is said to be haunted by Native American spirits as well as a young couple who met an untimely death. Then, as any San Antonian knows, there’s the railroad by Villamain and Shane roads, which is haunted by benevolent schoolchildren who (supposedly) died in a train crash in the 1930s when their bus stalled on the tracks. They’ll push any cars stuck on the tracks over to safety. And don’t forget the Alamo—the old mission is said to still be protected by ghostly apparitions of the original defenders.

Get acquainted with the supernatural side of San Antonio on a Sisters Grimm Haunted History Walk . It takes guests to famously spooky locations like the Alamo, the Spanish Governor’s Mansion, the old Bexar County Jail (now a Holiday Inn Express), and the Menger Hotel—one of the most haunted hotels in the nation; it’s supposedly occupied by Theodore Roosevelt’s ghost. If getting in your daily steps is not your thing, the Sisters Grimm also has a Ghost Bus Tour , which includes a cemetery stop.

8. Prague, Czech Republic

Tour to check out: Mysterium Tours’ Dark Shadows of the Old Town Starting price: $20

With a history that dates back more than 1,000 years, Prague is one of the prime places in Europe for ghost hunting. And with its many cobblestone streets and medieval castles, it’s not hard to let your imagination run free. Some of the apparitions said to be haunting the city include the Headless Templar, the legendary founder of Prague, a mistress of a monk, and a golem created by a rabbi in the 16th century to protect the Jewish community from anti-Semitic attacks.

Prague-based Mysterium Tours takes visitors through one of the most ancient parts of the city on its Dark Shadows of the Old Town Tour . This tour snakes its way through Prague’s Old Town and Josefov, or the Jewish Quarter, past dozens of Gothic churches, convents, and old cemeteries. In a fun twist, the storytellers and guides on these tours dress up in period-correct clothing. If you’re not in Prague but are still in the mood to be spooked, Mysterium Tours also offers experiences in Barcelona, Budapest, Kraków, and Madrid.

The Old Town Trolley Tours’ Ghost and Gravestones option takes guests past some of San Diego’s spookiest sites by old-fashioned trolley. On their journey, visitors will be able to learn about the city’s Wild West past and the tragic history of the Whaley House, and experience the unusual electromagnetic activity of Pioneer Park, a favorite hot spot of local ghost hunters, using E.M. readers. LANTERN-LIT WALKING GHOST TOURS

Paranormal investigations  *  haunted pub crawls   ghost trolley tours  *  private vip groups , guest discounts in our gift shop.

A LEGEND IS BORN ... "A Ghostly Experience" had its beginnings over 30 years ago when a local historian named Sandy Craig decided that visiting overnight school field trip groups needed a fun, educational evening activity. She joined forces with several local writers and researchers to develop a tour based on ghosts and other strange occurrences in St. Augustine. Together they guided guests along narrow brick streets by lantern, searching for the supernatural. These tours became a tremendous overnight success and "A Ghostly Experience" was born...  THE REST AS THEY SAY, IS HISTORY!

Today, Ghost Tours of St. Augustine is part of Tour Saint Augustine Inc  which employs dozens pf professional storytellers, guides and tour managers to preserve St. Augustine's past. We continue to study and uncover even more haunting tales of the town's dark history. All of our stories are researched through historic libraries, old church documents, diaries and personal interviews. Nothing is made up nor exaggerated and there are no "effects" used on our tours... if you have A Ghostly Experience while out there with us, you'll know its authentic!
