Tom Jones is a Welsh singer with a Grammy award and over 100 million records sold worldwide

Tom Jones is one of the most renowned vocalists to emerge from the British music scene and has left an indelible mark on the world of music. With a career spanning over 60 years, he has ventured into various musical genres, from pop, rock, and country to dance and techno, all while maintaining his signature robust baritone voice and charismatic stage presence.

Born as Thomas John Woodward in Wales, Tom Jones began his professional singing career in 1963 as Tommy Scott with the Senators, a Welsh beat group. He recorded solo tracks in 1964 but faced initial setbacks.

However, his breakthrough came in 1965 when he released It's Not Unusual, which soared to the top of the UK charts and became a hit in the US. This marked the beginning of a string of chart-toppers, including What's New Pussycat? and Green, Green Grass of Home.

As the mid-'60s progressed, Jones underwent an image transformation, adopting a more mature, tuxedoed crooner persona. This transition revived his popularity, and he continued to release hits throughout the late '60s. His move to the United States and the success of his television variety show, This Is Tom Jones, further cemented his status as a global star.

Jones's career saw numerous transformations. In 1988, he collaborated with the electronic dance group the Art of Noise on a cover of Prince's Kiss, propelling him back into the limelight. Throughout the '80s and '90s, he explored country and dance-pop genres, earning him a diverse fan base.

In the 21st century, Jones continued to evolve. He delved into alternative dance-pop, and country, and even recorded a collection of gospel and blues classics. His collaboration with artists like Wyclef Jean and participation in The Voice UK showcased his adaptability.

Jones triumphantly returned in 2021, following a hiatus due to personal loss, with the album Surrounded by Time . This album, co-produced by his son Mark Woodward and Evan Johns, had a wide variety of songs, ranging from Bob Dylan covers to a Radiohead-inspired interpretation.

Tom Jones's enduring passion for music and his ability to embrace different styles has solidified his legacy as a music legend. With each new phase of his career, he continues to captivate audiences worldwide with his powerful voice.

Tom Jones (born 7th June 1940) is a Welsh singer who covers all genres of popular music – pop, R&B, dance, country, rock, soul, gospel, and more and has sold over 100 million records worldwide.

Born and bred in South Wales, Jones began his career as the front man for a beat group called Tommy Scott and the Senators in the mid 60s, where he first attracted attention before breaking away to pursue his solo career. His music caught on very quickly, and across his career he’s achieved a huge 36 top 40 hits in the UK, and 19 in the USA. Known for his most famous songs Sex Bomb, She’s a Lady, What’s New Pussycat, and Green, It’s Not Unusual, Jones has an incredible back catalogue of smash hits, and is sure to keep everyone entertained.

Back in 1999, he was awarded an OBE, later followed by a knighthood in 2006 for his services to the music industry. As well as these honours, Jones has won a Grammy, two Brit Awards, and an MTV Video Music Award over the years, and also had his own TV show, This Is Tom Jones, back in the early 70s. Historically, Tom Jones played huge arena venues to incredibly large crowds of fans, and to this day he still maintains an incredible following.

Nowadays you’ll find him coaching and judging on the UK version of The Voice, or playing rare but incredible sets usually at prestigious events, so keep an eye out for tickets!

Live reviews

Wednesday 19th July. Sandown Park Racecourse. Tom Jones. After a successful evening with the horses there was a high expectation of Sir Thomas of the Jones.

Sadly, like my horse in the last race it was a disappointing showing. Like my horse the show lacked pace, stamina and rhythm. It was a stop start show with large spells of nothing really. The sound wasn’t great but our attention often wandered to other things, be it grown men wearing women’s pants or just shiny bits of paper.

The hits were the hits (and I thought he had more than the five we all know) and these were interspersed throughout the set but the bits in between seemed like an excuse for Tom’s excellent band to show off a bit.

It was a dial in performance that lacked any real passion or atmosphere and left me wishing we’d left earlier for a nice meal or few beers after the horses finished.

It’s a shame really and outside of his hard core female fans down the front I don’t think the vast majority can hand on their heart say it was great gig. For me it will get filed quickly in the worst along with Eddi Reader, Marc Olson and Victoria Williams and Jackie Leven.

Onto to the next and keep on rockin’ y’all

Tom Jones, the Welsh crooner with one hell of a powerful voice. Having first found fame in the 60s with his recognisable vocal and startling range, his career has lately had a revival of sorts due to his role as a mentor on The Voice UK. He has been playing various summertime events and festivals to a loyal fanbase made up of fans old and new.

Away from the voice, his charisma and personality is incredibly likeable as his warm mannerism means he is able to build connection with his crowd almost instantly. He also has a talent for name dropping that is almost as good as his talent for singing, regaling the audience with stories of sharing the stage with Elvis before tearing into classics such as 'Mama Told Me Not to Come' and 'Time Bomb'. The crowd sings along in force yet they are shadowed by the sheer force of Sir Tom's pipes and he really allows his voice to shine during 'Didn't It Rain'. He proves that age does not always mean you have to slow down, as at the age of 74 Tom Jones is busier than ever.

Tom Jones- well, what can I say? Tom gives a great live performance and sounds just as good as you expect him to. He sang all the classics and some new ones too. Although the crowd were not always too pleased with his newer renditions they were just as good. Tom got all of the crowd involved and knows how to put on a proper show.

The set list was well paced, mixing newer material and crowd-pleasing hits. The best of the latter were a singalong Delilah, an infectiously upbeat It’s not Unusual, and a rollicking Mama Told Me Not to Come. Tom's bellowing voice perfectly echoed around the place with a gorgeous sound filling the crowd. The audience would hold Tom to every note and he executed each one perfectly. A total crowd pleaser and a lovely guy. He knew what the audience wanted and gave it to them. Tom Jones is timeless and his version of delilah will always get the crowd going. An excellent gig, would recommend to anyone.

The show was Amazing! Everyone was on their feet dancing- including the employees of Warner Theater! His voice is as strong as ever and I love the variety of songs that he performs. I saw him at the O2 last year in London, and this show was by far the better of the two. In London, we were required to stay seated and were hushed for singing along. Still great to see Tom perform but I hope he comes back to DC soon! I Love you Tom Jones!!!

What a Night! Tom Jones is about 74 years old and you don´t hear it. You see it sometimes, but you forgot it, when the next song starts. He presented some new songs from the upcoming Album and it is not what I excepted. The good old songs like "Sex Bomb", "It´s not unusual" and "Delilah" in new arrangements made the evening incredible. Next time in Germany I will be there!

What a gig!! Tom Jones is an icon. A legend. Whether you like his music or not. When Sir Tom sang, I'm sure our hair went backwards!,like in a wind tunnel!.. Some classics sung and some covers thrown in.

The worst part for me was some drunk women in the crowd nearby who fell about blind drunk, crashing into other people and tried to be louder than Tom even though the PA!

The show in Atlanta was fantastic! Tom Jones was incredible!! His voice is golden...legendary!!! He can sing any genre and it magically works. My mother introduced me to his blusey Welsh voice at about the age of 5 and for 50 wonderful years I have loved and will always love him!! Thanks mom and thank you Sir Tom for sharing you beautiful Gift of Song with me!

The show was absolutely amazing. Tom Jones rocked the stage with that wow voice of his, he's a real showman. The only complaints were food/drink/merchandise was very expensive and the length of time to get out of car park as there was not enough staffing down at the exit to guide the rows of cars out safely and quickly apart from that the show was well worth it.

lizi-edney-woz-curti’s profile image

At 79 Jones voice has not aged! Sounding young and strong! His prescence still sensual and provacative! I was a little dissappointed he didnt sing all his classics! But he loves blues and I understand his preference Regardless he was amazing! His band was an excellent accompaniment to his style and choice! Brilliant!

tom jones tour uk 2023

Legendary Welsh singer and performer Sir Tom Jones continues to sustain his popularity around the world, captivating audiences with his timeless discography of hit songs and enduring talent and charisma. With a remarkable career spanning over six decades, Jones is widely considered to be one of the greatest singers and recording artists of all time, selling over 100 million records and continuing as an esteemed and influential figure in the music industry.

In the early 1960s, he signed with Decca Records in London, kickstarting a successful and diverse career and achieving international fame with his powerful voice and dynamic stage presence. He had a string of hit songs including "It's Not Unusual," "What's New Pussycat?" "Delilah," and "Green, Green Grass of Home" which sat alongside his hugely popular 1969-1971 cross-continental TV show, "This is Tom Jones". Jones has always had a fundamental interest in a wide range of music, leading him to work with dozens of iconic collaborators over the years, ranging from Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin to Van Morrison, Dolly Parton and Ed Sheeran, just some amongst many. Although he is well known for his hits, he is first and foremost a diverse artist with a true rhythm and blues soul.

Jones's career has been filled with numerous honours and accolades, including a deeply cherished knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in 2006, multiple BRIT Awards, a Silver Clef Award, the prestigious Music Industry Trusts Award and a Hitmaker Award from the US Songwriters Hall of Fame. He has also acted in films such as Tim Burton's "Mars Attacks," and "Playhouse Presents: King of The Teds" for Sky Arts. Along with his yearly touring, Jones has continued to be active in the industry as a longstanding coach on The Voice UK and being a valued contributor at a variety of events and broadcasts such as the 25th Anniversary of MusiCares (honouring Bob Dylan) and the 57th Grammy Awards as well as many others for charitable causes. His autobiography "Over The Top And Back" was a rollicking best-seller, and his 2021 album release “Surrounded By Time” made him the oldest male to claim a Number 1 spot on the UK Official Albums Chart with an album of new material, overtaking Bob Dylan.

Sir Tom has indeed cemented his place in music history as one of the most successful artists of all time, traversing musical eras and genres, cutting across class divides, and appealing to all genders and ages, mainstream and cutting edge. Sir Tom has always been about the power of the song, and the power of the voice, qualities that have made him a true legend in the music zeitgeist. Despite the passage of time, Sir Tom Jones continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the music world, and his legacy will undoubtedly live on for generations to come.

Tom Jones - I Won’t Crumble With You If You Fall (Live from Real World Studios)

The star’s most recent album Surrounded By Time , his latest collaboration with producer Ethan Johns, went straight to No.1 in the UK on its release in April 2021. Recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales and at Real World in Wiltshire, it was hugely acclaimed by reviewers, with the Daily Telegraph ’s Neil McCormick writing in a five-star notice: “Jones’s voice has weathered better than most, taking on an oaken quality, with rich low notes and just a patina of tiny cracks adding some antique class.”

The Independent ’s Helen Brown described Jones as “an ongoing triumph of hope and experience,” observing that his “barnacled baritone steers a steady course through Moog-soaked covers of favourite songs, with sombre lines about dark oceans, soulless days, and skirting a skeleton coast.”

Tom jones has 16 u.s. concerts in 2023. here’s where to see him live.

Singer Tom Jones performs onstage.

You wouldn’t believe it based on his youthful demeanor but legendary “It’s Not Unusual” singer Tom Jones is 82-years-old.

That’s no problem for the man who won 1966’s Best New Artist Grammy Award though —  he’s still touring all over the world in 2023 .

To kick off the international run, Sir Tom Jones will play 16 North American concerts from May 3 through May 26 as part of his upcoming Ages and Stages Tour .

And Jones must have fans in the Northeast because he’s booked five (!) shows in New York and New Jersey on the quick U.S. run.

First, he’ll swoop into Atlantic City’s Borgata Events Center on May 20. Soon after, he’ll perform at New Brunswick’s State Theatre on May 22, Huntington’s The Paramount on May 23, New York City’s Beacon Theatre on May 25 and finally Verona’s Turning Stone Resort Casino on May 26.

Best of all, you can grab tickets as early as today to see the man who brought the world “She’s A Lady,” ‘Sexbomb” and “What’s New, Pussycat?”

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, Feb. 10, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can  purchase on sites like Vivid Seats  before seats are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

Tom Jones 2023 tour schedule

A complete calendar including all Tom Jones “Ages And Stages Tour” dates, venues, show start times and links to buy tickets can be found below.

Tom Jones new music

Jones isn’t just spending time on the road these days — he’s also in the studio.

Most recently, the Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee released his 12-track “Surrounded By Time” album in 2021.

Featuring Jones’ signature deep voice, he shies away from his typically upbeat fare for more melancholy, reflective fare like the heavy opening tune “I Won’t Crumble With You If You Fall.”

Still, he has fun on catchy tracks like “Popstar” and “Samson and Delilah.”

For our money, it’s the best classic rock record of the ’20s.

Want to dig even deeper? Check out the 233-song, 2022 compilation “The Complete Decca Studio Albums Collection.”

Tom Jones on “The Voice UK”

In addition to touring and recording, Jones also lends his expertise to the UK’s version of “The Voice.”

Having judged nearly every season since the show debuted in 2012, Jones has been part of a number of fun, spontaneous moments during his tenure on the reality competition program.

Below, you’ll find one of the most memorable — when Jones battle-duetted with EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson.

Huge stars in their 80s on tour in 2023

After doing a bit of research, we were surprised to find out that Jones isn’t the only pre-Baby Boomer star hitting venues all over North America this year.

Here are just five of our favorite performers in their 80s performing live in the next few months.

•  William Shatner  (91-years-old)

•  Willie Nelson  (89-years-old)

•  Frankie Valli  (88-years-old)

•  Englebert Humperdinck (86-years-old)

•  Ringo Starr  (82-years-old)

Want to see acts that are, um, a bit younger too? You can find them on our list of the  52 biggest concert tours in 2023 here .
