The designs of the iPhone SE 4 and the iPhone 16 could have something in common

It's been a little while since we heard anything about the iPhone SE 4 – the follow-up to the iPhone SE 3 from 2022 – but a fresh rumor suggests it's going to share some design similarities with the upcoming iPhone 16 .

According to tipster Fixed Focus Digital on Chinese social media site Weibo (via MacRumors ), the more affordable Apple phone is going to use the same rear chassis manufacturing process as the flagship Apple phone for 2024.

That doesn't mean the two phones will be identical, but there may be certain similarities in terms of dimensions and styling. It means the iPhone SE 4 might also adopt the vertical dual-lens rear camera configuration rumored for the iPhone 16 .

Previous leaks had suggested the iPhone SE 4 could be based on the iPhone 14 from 2022, but now it seems as though Apple may go for a more modern look – and of course it'll save Apple some money if parts of the manufacturing process for the iPhone SE 4 and the iPhone 16 are shared as production ramps up.

What we're expecting

We're most probably going to see the iPhone 16 launched first – it's expected in September, alongside the iPhone 16 Plus , the iPhone 16 Pro , and the iPhone 16 Pro Max , and we think there are going to be a few design tweaks on show.

Dummy units of all four phones have surfaced, with a new camera bump around the rear camera lenses on the standard and Plus models, and a slight increase in height for the Pro and Pro Max handsets. We might also get some new colors this year.

As for the iPhone SE 4, it might be early next year before this smartphone shows up. This should be the model where the iPhone SE finally ditches the old iPhone design, with the Touch ID home button, and adopts the more modern look.

Alongside an OLED screen, the iPhone SE 4 could get the Dynamic Island , just like the high-end iPhones. It'll be interesting to see if the alterations affect the pricing of the cheapest iPhone – remember that the iPhone SE 3 went on sale for a starting price of $429 / £419 / AU$719 when it launched.

While Apple’s focus is currently on the launch of the iPhone 16 in September, fans of the company’s cheaper SE series should look to Spring 2025, when the iPhone SE 4 is expected to land. However, according to a new Weibo leak, the two may have more in common than expected.

“The SE4 back cover process is the same as the 16 standard version,” writes Fixed Focus Digital (machine translated via Weibo). The leaker is relatively untested at this point but has previously made some predictions about iPhone 16 colors , so we should have a better feel for accuracy soon enough.

If this prediction is accurate, it’s interesting because the iPhone SE 4 was initially expected to use a modified iPhone 14 chassis . It would make sense for Apple to share the chassis of the iPhone 16 from a manufacturing efficiency point of view. Still, if it’s “exactly the same” as Fixed Focus Digital suggests, that hints at a possible unexpected camera upgrade.

Like its predecessors, we expected the iPhone 4 SE to have a single camera lens to save on costs. But leaks indicate the iPhone 16 chassis will have space for two cameras, one above the other for Vision Pro-friendly spatial video recording .

Does that mean the next iPhone SE might have two cameras too? We shouldn’t rule it out. After all, this is expected to be the most substantial upgrade for the series so far, with the new SE set to inherit a lot of hand-me-downs from its more expensive siblings, including Face ID , a 48MP camera, USB-C charging and the Action button . There’s even talk of it getting an OLED screen and Dynamic Island instead of the notch, but there are reasons to be skeptical .

That said, a second camera would add to the cost, and with Apple reportedly looking to keep a sub-$500 starting price , this may all be wishful thinking — especially when compatibility for a $3,500 mixed-reality headset seems unnecessary on a budget smartphone. The chassis could be filled another way, or perhaps Fixed Focus Digital has the wrong end of the stick, and we’ll see an unfamiliar-looking shell when it arrives.

The leaker adds that “the shipment plan is about the end of September,” which is ambiguous. We’re certainly not expecting Apple to unveil the iPhone SE 4 alongside the iPhone 16 this September, with a Spring launch predicted elsewhere . Perhaps the leaker means that the first shells are expected then — destined to be used in early adopters’ iPhone 16 handsets.

It has been a long wait for a new iPhone SE — but not the longest. There was a four-year gap between the first and second generations, which arrived in 2016 and 2020 respectively. While the third-generation 2022 iPhone SE is still a decent buy, the best cheap phones are starting to highlight its limitations, so we’re looking forward to seeing what Apple brings to the table in 2025.

iPhone SE 4 chassis now said to resemble the iPhone 16

The current iPhone SE is the last model to feature Touch ID instead of Face ID

It's not officially known what the rear chassis of the iPhone 16 will look like, although there are at least rumors about its color . What is known that previously Apple has based its iPhone SE models on the casings designed for earlier iPhones.

Consequently, the repeated claim that the iPhone SE 4 would utilize the chassis of the iPhone 14 was plausible. It was significant, though, that it would be based on a Face ID iPhone, since the iPhone SE is currently the last-remaining iPhone with only Touch ID .

Now, however, a leaker named "Fixed Focus Digital" on Weibom says that this is wrong .

"The back cover process of SE4 is exactly the same as that of the 16 standard version," writes the leaker (in translation), "and the shipment plan is about the end of September."

It's not clear from the translation, but it would make most sense if that September date was referring to the iPhone 16. That is expected in September, while a new iPhone SE is likely to come out in Spring 2025.

Changing the back chassis design may well mean Apple changing its rear camera system too. A previous leak claims that the base iPhone 16 will switch to a vertical alignment of cameras, instead of the usual diagonal arrangement.

As spotted by MacRumors , it's possible that the iPhone SE 4 will adopt the same cameras. In which case, it's conceivable that the iPhone 16 has become the better fit than the iPhone 14.

Note that "Fixed Focus Digital" is quite a new leaker, and so far has been making claims that cannot yet be verified. His or her track record also includes the definitely sketchy claim that Apple has abandoned its plans for an iPhone Fold .

I think this is pretty unlikely, unless it's to comply with right-to-repair laws. Apple likes to use previous gen tech to get more life out of the designs and manufacturing lines.

There are lots of people — not myself, but I’ve spoken to many of my female and male clients — who would prefer Apple continue to make the “mini” aka “current SE” size phone. Reasons range from wanting to keep the phone in a small purse to a tendency to wear tighter-fitting pants and other reasons. I’m sure it a “small” audience (heh) for “mini-sized” iPhones, but its not insubstantial — and this is an area where they can get what they want from from the Android market. My wife has said many times she has zero interest in a phone any bigger than the current-gen SE, so I hope they will at least go on making that.

I personally prefer smaller SE size iPhones. Only thing it really needs is another camera lens for me, preferably the Wide Angle. SE2 has been bought by most of my family and friends and it’s all they want or need. Most would agree a second camera would be very handy and an upgrade to 16Mp from 12Mp.

Apple's segmentation is designed to make sure a rather significant portion, a super majority (?), of iPhone buyers go to the $600, $800 models. If the rumors are true, and the new SE will have a 6.1" display, you have to wonder how they are going to de-feature the SE to make people go for the upsell. LCD display. Single back camera. Touch ID sleep/wake button instead of Face ID. Bigger bezels and thicker? Or IOW, a model that meets basic smartphone needs, non-premium features, and that's about it. A lot of people would have loved it if they made iPhone X like model, 5.8" display, the $450 model. Or, base it on the iPhone 13 mini. Going to a 6.1" display means a lot of people will go for it instead of the $600 n-2 model.

Ah, but every next-gen iPhone will NEED to run Apple Intelligence, so perhaps there's literally no room in the old designs -- the iPhone 15 and even the 15 Plus don't have the power or room to run AI, which needs a bigger "neural engine" and better ways to disperse the heat that will generate. As I said above, lots of people would appreciate a smaller iPhone, but it's likely they would not be willing to give up most of the new features to get one. We'll see, of course.

iPhone SE 4 Rumored to Use Same Rear Chassis as iPhone 16

Apple will adopt the same rear chassis manufacturing process for the iPhone SE 4 that it is using for the upcoming standard iPhone 16, claims a new rumor coming out of China.

The latest claim casts doubt on a previous rumor suggesting Apple would use a modified iPhone 14 chassis as the basis for a fourth-generation iPhone SE. In November 2023 , MacRumors learned from a source close to Apple's manufacturing process that the dimensions of the ‌iPhone SE‌ 4 "perfectly matched" those of the base model ‌iPhone 14 in its current stage ‌.

While it's still unclear what may have led to the change, it's possible that Apple chose to adopt its newer rear chassis process for the more affordable SE model to achieve economy of scale at the point of production as the manufacture of iPhone 14 models winds down towards retirement.

However, it could also indicate a change to the camera system on the fourth-generation iPhone SE. Unlike the ‌iPhone 14‌, the ‌iPhone SE‌ 4 was previously rumored to include a single 48-megapixel rear camera with a custom backplate for the device to account for the design change.

In contrast, for the iPhone 16 models, Apple is planning a new vertical camera lens arrangement that is a departure from the diagonal lens setup found on iPhone 15 models. The new orientation will presumably allow the standard iPhone 16 models to capture Spatial Video for the Vision Pro headset. Adopting the same backplate for the iPhone SE 4 would seem to suggest it will feature the same dual camera setup, although we haven't heard any rumors specifically claiming that this is in Apple's plans.

Apple is said to be targeting a sub-$500 starting price for its fourth-generation iPhone SE model, despite a raft of rumored upgrades coming to the more affordable device. Touch ID and the Home button will be replaced by Face ID and a display notch, while the display size will increase from 4.7 inches to 6.1 inches. Other features expected for the next iPhone SE include a USB-C port and an Action button .

Voyage 4 is a driving game where you jump behind the driver's wheel of several different vehicles to travel along many of Russia's best-known roads. With decent 3D graphics, it's easy to navigate each route to discover new landscapes and explore realistic road conditions.

In Voyage 4, you won't simply be competing against other users to arrive first to a specific destination. Your mission is make the most of each car to venture along roads with a purely realistic driving experience. In fact, there are several camera modes that allow you to observe the development of each level from multiple perspectives.

Control systems in Voyage 4 are simple, so you can easily adapt the way you drive. Specifically, you can turn the steering wheel using arrows that appear on screen or tilt your smartphone to activate its gyroscope. On the other hand, to accelerate or brake all you have to do is click on the right buttons in the game.

When it comes to life in general, we're always told that it's about the journey along the way, not the destination. While yes, it's great to finally reach your destination, but it's the experiences along the way to get there that are the best. And that's exactly what Journey is all about.

Originally released in 2012 for Sony PlayStation 3, it became a critically acclaimed game that was loved by many. It eventually got ported over to the PlayStation 4 in 2015, and then Windows in June 2019. And now it has finally made its way to your iPhone and iPad.

The journey is always more rewarding than the destination

Journey on iOS: What I Like

I remember grabbing Journey when it went free for PlayStation Plus members a few years back, but like most games, I ended up playing a little bit of it before I got distracted and forgot about it (this is especially true for console games). So when I saw Journey was available on iOS, I knew that this was the perfect opportunity to finally experience Journey for myself.

The game is stunningly gorgeous with the unique and distinctive art style, which has inspired many other games since its initial release. If you have a newer device, then Journey will run beautifully with the visuals. Older devices may struggle a tiny bit with the graphics, but it's still quite pretty to look at.

To go along with the distinctive visual style, the audio is serene, tranquil, and dynamic, as it ties in with the actions of the player. As a result, the soundtrack for Journey is a treat, since it's emotional and unfolds in real time in accordance with your actions in-game. There is never any dialogue, and the story is told through the sounds. Even your unnamed character doesn't speak, and only communicates through a wordless shout or musical note.

While Journey is an adventure game, there are platforming elements that you need to do in order to progress through the game. Your character is equipped with a magical scarf that enables them to jump high and fly or glide when it's charged. Once the scarf is depleted, you can charge it up via a number of ways, such as walking around, going near flying cloths, and other means.

However, even though it's an adventure platformer, you don't need to worry about failing and dying in Journey, because it's always possible to get back to where you were, albeit just a bit annoying. The game is about the journey, and it's quite a relaxing one, so there's really nothing for you to stress out over, which I love.

There is also a special multiplayer mode that utilizes Game Center for matchmaking. Eventually in the game, you will encounter another character that looks just like you. At first, I thought it was an NPC, but it is, in fact, another player that has temporarily connected to your game through Game Center. When two players are close enough, they'll charge up each other's scarves. The only way to communicate with each other is through the singing, which is distinctive for each player (along with the symbols you emit and on your robes). And when two players complete a section at the same time, they remain together into the next one, unless the other person decides to stop playing.

While the asynchronous multiplayer is nice and gives you a sense of human contact, it's not necessary by any means. If you want to play with another player, you can work together. But Journey can also be enjoyed completely solo as well.

Even though Journey is a game that has no dialogue, there actually is a story behind it all. You start out alone in a vast, empty desert, but a large, mysterious mountain looms in the distance, with a crevice that splits at the peak. On the journey to the mountain, you'll find remnants of once-thriving civilizations, which are now only ruins and eroded by sand over time. As you get closer, you'll encounter a white-robed figure that may have the answers you seek, but along the way you'll be witnessing the rise and fall of civilization. Kind of similar to reality, right?

Journey on iOS: What I Don't Like

My biggest issue with Journey is the fact that it is originally a console game, but this mobile port has zero MFi controller support. The touch controls aren't necessarily bad (virtual movement joystick in bottom left, camera joystick and interaction buttons on the right), but I would have much preferred to be able to use a controller to play this game (especially with a DualShock 4 on iOS 13). I am hoping that controller support comes in the future, but I wouldn't count on it.

Another thing I noticed was some odd screen flickering during the game as I was playing it on a 2017 12.9-inch iPad Pro model. It didn't happen all the time, but only on some scenes, and it was mostly the sky that seemed to be flickering. I'm sure it's just a glitch, but it doesn't affect the gameplay itself.

And finally, while Journey is beautiful and quite an experience, it's also pretty short. If you play it continuously without breaks, you'll finish it in about two or three hours. But again, this game is about the journey, so you should take your time and enjoy all of the sights and sounds as you work your way towards the end.

iPhone SE 4 rumored to have the same rear panel as the iPhone 16

F rom potentially being canceled to launching in 2025 , the upcoming iPhone SE 4 looks like it could be a massive success. According to Weibo leaker Fixed Focus Digital (via MacRumors ), this model could use the "exactly the same" backplate manufacturing process as the upcoming iPhone 16.

This could mean many things, including a proper camera upgrade with a second ultra-wide lens and several other features unavailable on the current iPhone SE 3, such as Night Mode and even Spatial Video recording , which is expected for all the upcoming models.

This leak comes as a surprise, as previous reports suggested the iPhone SE 4 would be a modified iPhone 14 : It would have the same 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID, and aluminum and glass finish, but instead of two lenses, it was expected to feature one main 48MP lens.

While we'll have to wait for Apple to officially announce its plans for the next-gen iPhone SE, the cheaper model seems too good to be true, even though it won't feature a Dynamic Island.

Since Apple usually uses the best processor on its cheapest model (which means it could potentially get the unannounced A18 chip), it's also rumored to get USB-C and an Action Button. As a customer, buying an iPhone 16 might not make that much sense since both phones would be so similar, but one would be significantly cheaper.

Fortunately, it won't be much longer before we learn more about the iPhone 16, as its release is expected in just two months. The iPhone SE 4 could also get a release date in spring, around March or April. Apple announced the iPhone SE 3 in March 2022.

At the time, analysts had high hopes that it could turn a billion Android users into switchers thanks to its addition of 5G. However, that didn't happen. It seems we're setting our expectations too high for Apple's cheapest iPhone again.

Voyage 4 es un juego de conducción en el que tendremos que subirnos a bordo de diferentes vehículos con la intención de recorrer muchas de las carreteras más conocidas de Rusia. Con un buen desarrollo gráfico en tres dimensiones, lo tendremos muy fácil para circular por cada trayecto descubriendo nuevos paisajes de forma realista.

En Voyage 4 no tendremos que competir contra otros usuarios por llegar los primeras a cualquier destino. Aquí nuestra misión será la de aprovechar al máximo las condiciones mecánicas de cada coche para avanzar por las carreteras con una conducción realista. De hecho, contaremos con varios modos de cámara que nos permitirán observar el desarrollo de cada nivel desde múltiples perspectivas.

El sistema de control que incorpora Voyage 4 es bastante sencillo y podemos adaptar la forma en la que conducimos. En concreto, podremos girar el volante haciendo uso de unas flechas que aparecen en pantalla o utilizando el giroscopio de nuestro smartphone. Por otro lado, para acelerar o frenar solo tendremos que pulsar sobre las teclas correspondientes.

Voyage 4 es un juego de conducción que nos permitirá poner a prueba nuestras habilidades de conducción con realismo. A través de un buen apartado gráfico y un manejo de los vehículos muy intuitivo, no nos cansaremos de dirigir cada coche por medio de las múltiples carreteras rusas que aparecen en el título.

En fait, il y a plusieurs modes de caméra qui te permettent d'observer le développement de chaque niveau depuis plusieurs perspectives.

Les systèmes de contrôle de Voyage 4 sont simples, ce qui te permet d'adapter facilement ton mode de conduite. Plus particulièrement, tu peux tourner le volant en utilisant les flèches qui apparaissent sur l'écran ou en inclinant ton smartphone pour activer le gyroscope. Pour accélérer ou freiner, tout ce que tu as à faire est de cliquer sur les touches de droite.

Voyage 4 est un jeu de conduite qui te permet de tester tes compétences en conduites dans un simulateur vraiment réaliste. Ses graphismes vraiment décents et le maniement intuitif du véhicule fournissent des heures de plaisir à découvrir les autoroutes russes.
