Native Union has shared its upcoming Apple accessories at CES. The headlining product is the foldable magnetic travel charger for iPhone and Apple Watch with Qi2 support called Voyage. Here’s what we know about it so far.

Voyage uses a circular folding design like Twelve South’s ButterFly . But Native Union says its take makes it “the most portable multi-device wireless charger ever…”

Voyage features a fold-up Apple Watch/AirPods charger so you can use it lying flat or in Nightstand Mode.

Voyage 4 is a driving game where you jump behind the driver's wheel of several different vehicles to travel along many of Russia's best-known roads. With decent 3D graphics, it's easy to navigate each route to discover new landscapes and explore realistic road conditions.

In Voyage 4, you won't simply be competing against other users to arrive first to a specific destination. Your mission is make the most of each car to venture along roads with a purely realistic driving experience. In fact, there are several camera modes that allow you to observe the development of each level from multiple perspectives.

Control systems in Voyage 4 are simple, so you can easily adapt the way you drive. Specifically, you can turn the steering wheel using arrows that appear on screen or tilt your smartphone to activate its gyroscope. On the other hand, to accelerate or brake all you have to do is click on the right buttons in the game.

Voyage 4 is a driving game that allows you to test your driving skills via a realistic driving sim. Its very decent graphics and intuitive vehicle handling, provide you with hours of fun exploring Russian motorways.

Journey on iOS review: It's about the voyage, not the destination

When it comes to life in general, we're always told that it's about the journey along the way, not the destination. While yes, it's great to finally reach your destination, but it's the experiences along the way to get there that are the best. And that's exactly what Journey is all about.

Originally released in 2012 for Sony PlayStation 3, it became a critically acclaimed game that was loved by many. It eventually got ported over to the PlayStation 4 in 2015, and then Windows in June 2019. And now it has finally made its way to your iPhone and iPad.

Bottom Line: Journey is a beautiful, peaceful, and tranquil platforming adventure game that demonstrates that it's all about the trek to get to your destination, rather than the destination itself.

The journey is always more rewarding than the destination

Journey on iOS: What I Like

I remember grabbing Journey when it went free for PlayStation Plus members a few years back, but like most games, I ended up playing a little bit of it before I got distracted and forgot about it (this is especially true for console games). So when I saw Journey was available on iOS, I knew that this was the perfect opportunity to finally experience Journey for myself.

The game is stunningly gorgeous with the unique and distinctive art style, which has inspired many other games since its initial release. If you have a newer device, then Journey will run beautifully with the visuals. Older devices may struggle a tiny bit with the graphics, but it's still quite pretty to look at.

To go along with the distinctive visual style, the audio is serene, tranquil, and dynamic, as it ties in with the actions of the player. As a result, the soundtrack for Journey is a treat, since it's emotional and unfolds in real time in accordance with your actions in-game. There is never any dialogue, and the story is told through the sounds. Even your unnamed character doesn't speak, and only communicates through a wordless shout or musical note.

While Journey is an adventure game, there are platforming elements that you need to do in order to progress through the game. Your character is equipped with a magical scarf that enables them to jump high and fly or glide when it's charged. Once the scarf is depleted, you can charge it up via a number of ways, such as walking around, going near flying cloths, and other means.

However, even though it's an adventure platformer, you don't need to worry about failing and dying in Journey, because it's always possible to get back to where you were, albeit just a bit annoying. The game is about the journey, and it's quite a relaxing one, so there's really nothing for you to stress out over, which I love.

There is also a special multiplayer mode that utilizes Game Center for matchmaking. Eventually in the game, you will encounter another character that looks just like you. At first, I thought it was an NPC, but it is, in fact, another player that has temporarily connected to your game through Game Center. When two players are close enough, they'll charge up each other's scarves. The only way to communicate with each other is through the singing, which is distinctive for each player (along with the symbols you emit and on your robes). And when two players complete a section at the same time, they remain together into the next one, unless the other person decides to stop playing.

While the asynchronous multiplayer is nice and gives you a sense of human contact, it's not necessary by any means. If you want to play with another player, you can work together. But Journey can also be enjoyed completely solo as well.

Even though Journey is a game that has no dialogue, there actually is a story behind it all. You start out alone in a vast, empty desert, but a large, mysterious mountain looms in the distance, with a crevice that splits at the peak. On the journey to the mountain, you'll find remnants of once-thriving civilizations, which are now only ruins and eroded by sand over time. As you get closer, you'll encounter a white-robed figure that may have the answers you seek, but along the way you'll be witnessing the rise and fall of civilization. Kind of similar to reality, right?

Journey on iOS: What I Don't Like

My biggest issue with Journey is the fact that it is originally a console game, but this mobile port has zero MFi controller support. The touch controls aren't necessarily bad (virtual movement joystick in bottom left, camera joystick and interaction buttons on the right), but I would have much preferred to be able to use a controller to play this game (especially with a DualShock 4 on iOS 13). I am hoping that controller support comes in the future, but I wouldn't count on it.

Another thing I noticed was some odd screen flickering during the game as I was playing it on a 2017 12.9-inch iPad Pro model. It didn't happen all the time, but only on some scenes, and it was mostly the sky that seemed to be flickering. I'm sure it's just a glitch, but it doesn't affect the gameplay itself.

And finally, while Journey is beautiful and quite an experience, it's also pretty short. If you play it continuously without breaks, you'll finish it in about two or three hours. But again, this game is about the journey, so you should take your time and enjoy all of the sights and sounds as you work your way towards the end.

Journey is a classic adventure game that any gamer should experience for themselves. There's a reason that this is what you would call a "classic," and it's worth picking up, even years later. There really should be controller support, since the game started off on the console, but perhaps that's why the mobile version is considerably cheaper to the alternatives.

Apple's budget iPhone SE 4: what the rumor mill says is on the way

A new iPhone SE is long overdue from Apple. The third-generation iPhone SE dropped in 2022, making it more than two years since the last update.

This long period since we saw a new iPhone SE has led to a steady stream of rumors and leaks, and the hope that one will arrive soon.

Here's what the rumor mill believes is happening for the fourth generation of Apple's lowest-priced iPhone model.

iPhone SE 4 - redesign

One of the biggest changes is that the budget iPhone will finally get a new design. As usual for the iPhone SE, Apple will be reusing designs of previous iPhone models, rather than coming up with something entirely new.

It will likely be based on the iPhone 14 , Apple's model launched in 2023, rather than the current iPhone 8 aesthetic. Multiple leakers have said the design upgrade is on the way.

However, one Weibo-based leaker insists that it is wrong and that it will be based on the unreleased iPhone 16 . As a relatively new leaker with as-yet-unknown accuracy, as well as referencing an upcoming model, this is quite doubtful.

Those two phones do look similar, but ultimately it will be a model with a large edge-to-edge display and flat sides.

iPhone SE 4 - display

Speaking of the display, reports peg the new device to adopt OLED for the first time.

BOE is currently thought to be the primary vendor for the iPhone SE 4's display. LG Display, a long-term supply chain member, will apparently be a secondary vendor.

As the primary vendor, BOE will continue to be the main supplier and have the larger share of orders. But they've had some issues, so it makes sense that LG Display is on tap as the backup supplier.

It also adds diversification from Samsung Display in the supply chain.

The screen itself is expected to be a 6.1-inch display , up from the 4.7-inch one it has now.

Offhand, this sounds like the iPhone SE will be giant. But remember that the previous version didn't have an edge-to-edge display, but instead had top and bottom sections and a front-mounted Home button.

iPhone SE 4 - notch and camera

What will be at the top of the screen is a bit of a mystery. Leakers have offered the use of both a Dynamic Island as well as the notch to handle the front-facing camera.

At this stage, Apple could go either way. The notch is an older design element, which plays into how Apple usually treats the iPhone SE.

However, Apple also seems keen to move more devices to the Dynamic Island and its software-assisted features. The smart money would be on the latter.

It will still feature a single rear-facing camera , which is again normal for a low-cost iPhone design. Apple will probably continue using its 12MP sensors, but it could get a bump to 48MP to bring it in line with newer models.

iPhone SE 4 - performance

Internally, this new phone will sport a brand-new chip, which is likely to be Apple's A18 processor. This will be the same one that will be used in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.

The reasoning is that Apple usually keeps this model around for a number of years. By putting in its latest processor, it will be more useful over a longer lifespan. And, this is expected to be paired with 8GB of RAM.

With these changes in place, there are at least two big features that should be coming to this phone.

The first of them is Face ID . This is a no-brainer as the physical home button will be gone from the front, and therefore there's a need to replace Touch ID on the model.

This would be major for consumers, as it would be the elimination of the last iPhone model with Touch ID.

The second feature is Apple Intelligence , which is being actively tested in the iOS 18 developer betas. Apple Intelligence covers a bunch of AI features, ranging from custom emoji generation to writing tools, to a refreshed and more powerful Siri .

It wouldn't seem right for Apple to launch Apple Intelligence and leave it out of the cheapest model in the range. These updates should at least mean that Apple Intelligence will be functional across the entire current-gen iPhone collection on the iPhone SE's release.

By building in Apple Intelligence now to the iPhone SE, it could help Apple get a larger install base of compatible devices, when it comes time to start charging for certain Apple Intelligence features. That may not happen until 2027 at the earliest, which gives more time to expand the Apple Intelligence footprint.

iPhone SE 4 - ports and buttons

You can bet the Lightning port will vanish, replaced by USB-C. Apple has been working to eliminate the port in favor of USB-C across most of its hardware, and now would be the ideal time to do so to the iPhone SE.

Just like other modern iPhones, the iPhone SE should support MagSafe charging, as well as Qi2.

It's a long shot, but at least one rumor has said that the Action Button will make an appearance. It seems that Apple does want people to use this button, and removing the mute toggle will also bring it in line with modern iPhones too.

There's a good chance of it happening, if rumors about the non-Pro iPhone 16 are true.

iPhone SE 4 - pricing and availability

With all of these expected changes on the way, that may mean a change in price is also going to happen.

The current iPhone SE 3 retails for $429 usually, though there are often other discounts and specials that bring the price down.

Apple is said to be targeting a sub-$500 price point for the iPhone SE 4. This means it could retail for at most $499, making it the most expensive iPhone SE ever.

Between all these upgrades and prices inching up, that is in the realm of possibility. As for when you can get your hands on one, there's still a fair bit of debate on the matter.

From early January 2023 to the end of February, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the iPhone SE 4 was canceled . He eventually reversed course, saying it was back on track and was eyeing an early 2025 release date.

Given that previous models had a similar timing, a spring 2025 launch for the budget iPhone seems highly plausible.

I’m curious as to how the prediction of a single rear facing camera was deduced. The current SE derives its design, including its single rear facing camera , from the iPhone 8, which likewise had a single rear facing camera. The iPhone 14 sports 2 rear facing cameras, so I’m curious why it seemed more likely to the author that Apple would redesign this aspect of the design source, in order to reduce the number of rear facing cameras. I could see the point if the design was being borrowed from the XR; but this seems like a bizarre deviation from the SE design strategy through all three of its existing iterations. I’d very much like to hear the reasoning behind this prediction.

I had the original iPhone SE, replaced with gen 2 which I’m still using today and looking forward to gen 4.   I’m too frugal to use anything else but SE.   Same goes for the watch.   Whoever came up with the whole SE concept is my favorite apple employee

iPhone SE 4 Likely to Feature 8GB of RAM for Apple Intelligence

Next year's iPhone SE 4 will almost certainly come with 8GB of RAM, up from 4GB in the 2022 model, due to the hardware requirements of Apple Intelligence.

Following the release of the iPhone 16 lineup in September, Apple will release the fourth-generation iPhone SE as early as the beginning of 2025, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman , and he says "you can bet that it will have Apple Intelligence."

So unless Apple discontinues the iPhone 15 models this year when the iPhone 16 series debuts, this will leave Apple's smartphone lineup in an unusual position, with a sub-$500 device in the iPhone SE 4 able to run Apple's latest AI features while the standard iPhone 15 models cannot.

The fourth-generation ‌iPhone SE‌ is rumored to feature an iPhone 14-like design, Face ID instead of Touch ID, a USB-C port, an Action button, an Apple-designed 5G modem, an A18 processor, and an all-screen look that does away with the Home Button. The device's display is expected to grow in size from 4.7 inches to 6.06 inches and use OLED for the first time.

Apple suppliers are expected to begin ramping up mass production of the device in October of this year. The device could be released ahead of the Lunar New Year in January 2025. However, all three existing iPhone SE models were announced in March over the years, so a March 2025 release seems quite possible too.

This is a bit tongue in cheek, but I thought they were touting how they were able to get Apple Intelligence working on low RAM machines? This is the same amount of RAM that their Pro line of Macs includes, so it seems like that comment may have been a bit inaccurate?

They have to screw up this product somehow, otherwise it will cannibalize other iPhone models.
