Excellent tour and Ellise our guide was simply outstanding.
Ian, our tour guide, was knowledgeable and made sure everything was running on time. We had some disruption to our water activities due to high waves in Palawan, but Ian and Michael pivoted the activities so they were still fun and engaging. I booked the tour to just relax and let someone else do the planning for me and it worked wonderfully. Would book again with Intrepid.

Palawan tour was totally disaster. I end up with paying double money.I never used tour.what happened to your ivestivation?
Poor communication, organization through three parties that I know of. I was left at an airport in a foreign country for 2 hours. Not impressed especially since I am 52 and specifically emailed them before tour started about my concerns traveling alone. They assured me they had it covered. Ultimately the Left hand had no idea what the right hand was doing and 2 days out of 5 you are waiting around and traveling instead of getting amongst it.I received similar feedback from others that we should have had 2 full days in El Nido as we didn’t get to touch the surface. I wasn’t impressed and fortunately after asking to speak to the manager was refunded a small amount.

Our tour leader Jovain was very well organized and upbeat about our tour which kept it fun. Good stays and excellent food.
I recently embarked on a 10-day tour to Palawan, Philippines, and I can confidently say that it was an absolute breathtaking experience! From the moment we arrived until the bittersweet farewell, and everything from the stunning landscapes to the warm hospitality of the locals made this trip truly unforgettable. Joining a group of fellow travellers only added to the incredible experience, as we formed lifelong friendships and shared unforgettable memories together. The moment we set foot on Palawan, we were greeted by a professional and friendly tour guide named Jovian who made us feel right at home. Jovain was very attentive, informed and participated enthusiastically in all the activities. He was full of laughter and ensured our safety, happiness and wellbeing was a priority. Jovian along with the other tour guides had exceptional professionalism and dedication. They were not only knowledgeable about the history, culture, and ecology of Palawan but also genuinely cared about our well-being and enjoyment. Their enthusiasm and passion for their homeland were infectious, and they made sure we experienced the true essence of Palawan and the nightlife. Our itinerary was meticulously planned, ensuring we made the most of every single day. From the crystal-clear turquoise waters to the lush green landscapes, every corner of this paradise seemed like it was plucked straight out of a postcard. We explored the enchanting underground river in Puerto Princesa to unwinding on the pristine beaches of El Nido and its hidden lagoons, every activity was filled with awe and wonder. We stayed in a variety of accommodations, ranging from cozy beachfront tents and huts to cozy resorts, each offering its own unique charm. The staff at every location were warm, welcoming, and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable. Although the company could do a few more improvements in the choice of accomodations. One of the highlights of this tour was the delicious local cuisine. From indulging in fresh seafood feasts to savoring traditional Filipino dishes, our taste buds were constantly delighted. Our guides introduced us to local delicacies such as adobo, sisig and lechon. In conclusion, my 10-day tour to Palawan, Philippines, was an absolute 5-star adventure. The stunning natural beauty, incredible accommodations, mouthwatering cuisine, and the bonds formed with fellow travelers made this journey truly unforgettable. If you're seeking a paradise getaway filled with adventure, relaxation, and lifelong memories, I wholeheartedly recommend embarking on a tour to Palawan. You won't be disappointed!

Beautiful sceneries and fun activities in the 7 days tour.
We did the 7-Day Palawan Tour: Puerto Princesa to El Nido in January. Overall we enjoyed our time in the Philippines. The company were quite helpful and quick to respond. Due to unforeseen circumstances our flights to the Philippines were delayed by 2 days and we had to start our tour two days late. The company accommodated us to commence the tour from day 3, but couldn't shift our whole tour back by 2 days, as it was peak season and couldn't reschedule the accommodation and tours at such short notice. This tour didn't have a local guide for the whole 7 days like an Intrepid, Top Deck or Contiki tour would have. A local guide is helpful to inform you of your daily itinerary (even though you are provided with a printout, it's not always as accurate or informative as a guide) - eg. It would have been helpful to know what kind of footwear you'd need on the day, or if you needed to bring a towel, or how long the travel is, etc. A lot of times things didn't quite go to plan (eg. we were picked up for a tour and were told to bring our luggage, as we were being transferred to a different hotel at the end of the day, but the van company weren't told that we would have luggage and didn't have room for it... so we had to leave it behind and arrange for our hotel to pick it up and transfer it for us. We were often left to deal with these things our self, which was a little difficult with the language barrier... but if we had a local guide, they could have sorted it for us. One morning in El Nido, one of our tours was cancelled and we waited for an hour for our pick up... we made several attempts to contact the local provider number that we were given (who eventually told us the tour was cancelled)... but then someone else turned up to take us for the tour... so the company had rearranged a new tour for us, but didn't inform us that it was a different provider and a different pick up time. We found that the tour company were contactable at all hours, which was good, but a lot of times this didn't help us resolve problems, due to the language barrier and difficulty communicating. Whatapp texting was the best way to communicate, but required internet access, which was often not good. The accommodation was of a good standard. We particularly enjoyed staying at the Sheridan in Sebang. The Doublegem in El Nido was Ok, but not excellent..

I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Some of the other reviews had issues with the hotels, I actually thought they were quite quality locations. Each had an attentive front desk, hot water, and amenities were available for purchase. The tour itself packs a lot into a short time frame. I was tired at the end of it, but in a good way. I actually liked that the week ended with the town tour of Coron, because it was a little more low key and less active than the other days, which was necessary.
One Week in Palawan comprises three cities: Puerto Princesa, El Nido and Coron, in that order. Hopping from one city to another means joining different sets of tourists for that occasion only. Be ready to mingle, particularly the long road trip of 5 hours from Puerto Princesa to El Nido in a medium-sized van. This is not a private tour; you are at once mingled with whomever at the discretion of your tour operator. And be ready to spend because vendors of all shades pop out of nowhere offering useful and not-so-useful items. Tips to your guides/helpers are encouraged as they serve you as best they could to a fault, as they are integral to a decent means of livelihood. The Palawan tour is well-organized, the accommodations superb, the experience memorable. Value-for-money package tour, airfare, shipfare (El Nido to Coron) included. Two-thumbs up!!

Advantages of Speedboats Over Traditional Boats

Our speedboat tours are designed to let you explore all the amazing destinations you’ve been dreaming of without having to worry about large crowds.

Speedboats are faster than outrigger boats, allowing you to visit more destinations in a shorter amount of time.

Flexibility

Speedboats offer flexible itineraries allowing you to choose which spots to visit and the amount of time to spend there.

Flexible schedules

Speedboat travel means fewer crowds at popular spots and shorter wait times, often on private or small-group tours.

The ride on a speedboat itself can be an exhilarating experience with the wind in your hair and the occasional jump over waves.

Personalized service

Dedicated crew who can provide a more personalized experience, catering to your needs and preferences.

Modern speedboats are safer and more stable than small traditional boats in different sea conditions thanks to their safety features.

How to choose the right Coron, Palawan Tour Packages?

Choose your tour preference – join a group tour or book an  exclusive island hopping tour in Coron, Palawan  depending on your requirements. If you prefer a personalized experience like being picked up at your hotel, airport or seaport, or departing earlier or later than usual tour time, then book an exclusive tour. Note that these options are not available with joiner tours.

Another consideration is your budget. How much do you allot for each day of the tour considering accommodation, food, and transportation?

Consider who you are traveling with. Will you be going to Coron, Palawan with family, colleagues, or friends? Keep in mind that a private or exclusive tour with a single operator typically meets the needs of the entire group.

Tradition Filipino Boat

Two Types of Coron Tour Packages: Private Tours and Joiner/Group Tours

Choose between private or joiner Coron, Palawan tour packages. This affects the price and experience of your  Coron Island hopping tour . Check with your tour operator for options.

Different tour operators may offer varying prices for similar tours. For instance, Tour A from one operator could be less expensive than the Ultimate Tour from another operator. This happens because Tour A is a joiner tour, where you join other travelers for the tour, while the Ultimate Tour is a private or exclusive tour, where you and your group have the tour guide and boat to yourselves.

So, whether you prefer a more intimate experience or a lively group dynamic, it’s essential to choose a tour package that suits your needs and budget.

Coron Speed Boat Tours

Important Questions That You Need to Ask Before Booking Your Coron Tour Packages

Since these tours cater to smaller groups, the overall cost is shared among fewer people. Lastly, private tours typically offer higher quality amenities such as superior meals and more experienced guides, contributing to their higher price compared to group tours.

Joiner or group tours in Coron are more affordable due to the shared costs among a larger number of participants, leading to lower per-person expenses for transportation, meals, and activities. The tour operators can negotiate better rates for bigger groups, further reducing costs.

These tours are typically pre-packaged, allowing operators to streamline operations and cut overhead costs. Additionally, the competitive tourism market in Coron motivates operators to offer attractive pricing. Consequently, group tours present a cost-effective and convenient option for exploring the beauty of Coron, Palawan.

Most of the time, tour operators will only list the inclusions in their marketing collateral online or in print. What you see on the list is what you will get. If it’s not mentioned, it means it is not included. The price of a tour package in Coron, regardless of whether it is a group tour or an exclusive tour, should always include lunch, a boat or speedboat, at least one bottled water, and all entrance fees.

The variation in prices of similar tour packages, such as private or group tours, in Coron can be due to different factors. One key reason is the varying entrance fees at different destinations included in the tours. Since some places may have higher entrance fees, they can affect the total cost of the tour package.

In most exclusive tour packages, the equipment comes with it if the itinerary states so. If it includes kayaking, then a kayak should be there. If it says snorkeling, a snorkel should be there. You should not be charged extra for them. Verify this information with the tour operator of your choice.

In Coron, Palawan, while many tour packages are pre-packaged with a fixed set of destinations, there is also the option to customize these tours based on personal preferences. By discussing with the tour operator, you can tailor the destinations in your package.

However, it’s important to note that customizing your itinerary might result in a higher price than the standard packages listed on their websites. Additionally, for extra enjoyment, activities like paddle boarding and kayaking can be added, although these come with an additional charge for the equipment.

Yes, you can request for vegetarian meal. Tour operators like Pulo, recognize the need to cater to different dietary needs of our clients including vegetarian and vegan. It is important to inform us in advance so that we can prepare vegetable meals for you.

Meals are usually composed of meat, fish, rice, tropical fruits, and bottled water.

Exclusive or private Coron tour packages include a more personalized experience. One of these experiences is hotel pickup and drop-off anywhere in Coron. If you are booked outside of Coron, it is important to make it clear to them that you will be picked up outside of the town so as to avoid miscommunication. Usually, there is an additional fee for this service.

The maximum capacity per tour in Coron depends on the capacity of the boat. But on average, most tours have a maximum seating capacity of 12. If you are not comfortable with a big group like this, a private tour is more suitable for you.

At Pulo, we only accommodate a maximum of 8 persons per speedboat. This is for safety and more personalized trip.

DTE asking customers to pick up the tab for trips on private corporate jets

Portrait of Jennifer Dixon

As early as next month, the state could weigh in on DTE Energy’s latest consumer rate increase requests amid opposition from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, who is fighting the utility's plans to spend tens of thousands of dollars on private corporate jet trips at the expense of its customers.

The corporate jet travel was disclosed by Nessel's office in cases filed by DTE seeking rate increase approval from the Michigan Public Service Commission. Nessel has opposed the proposed increase in her capacity as a consumer advocate , saying they should be cut by more than half.

DTE Gas filed its request for a $266 million rate increase in January, followed by a request by DTE Electric in March, seeking a $456.4 million increase.

Additional hearings are scheduled in September for the DTE Electric case, and a proposed decision from the administrative law judge handling the DTE Gas case is also expected in early September.

And while this is not the first time that the Attorney General's Office has requested travel information from DTE, it is the first case of contested travel expenses "so significant" it prompted the attorney general to identify it as a stand-alone issue in its filings, a spokesman told the Free Press on Monday.

According to an expert's testimony hired by Nessel reviewed by the Free Press, the two companies spent tens of thousands of dollars for travel on corporate jets in 2022: $15,841 for a one-way trip from Houston to Oakland County for a single board member; $10,281 for a round trip to Mackinac Island for five executives to attend the Mackinac Policy Conference put on by the Detroit Regional Chamber; and more than $73,000 to fly several executives and board members to and from Fort Lauderdale for the annual DTE shareholders meeting. The plane typically flies out of the Oakland County International Airport in Waterford.

Together the 17 trips in 2022 cost over $246,391, according to testimony from the consultant working for the Attorney General's Office, and DTE is asking that future travel expenses be covered in the rate-increase requests for DTE Electric and DTE Gas.

DTE's travel request is 33% more than what it spent in 2022, or a total of $333,000 for the two companies, for a year-long period, according to testimony in the case by the expert working for Nessel, Sebastian Coppola, an independent business consultant in Rochester.

In a statement, DTE said its leaders relied on limited, corporate air travel for business needs – including meetings which provide best practices and information sharing to run "best-in-class" energy companies, as well as meetings necessary to attract investment dollars to Michigan. DTE board members who chose to fly on a corporate jet must pay for the costs, minus the price of a ticket on a commercial flight.

The trips allowed executives and board members to attend meetings with investors and security analysts, and out-of-town board of directors meetings.

DTE Energy is a publicly traded company based in Detroit and has multiple subsidiaries.

The utility has said the rate increases are needed to improve reliability and would be about an $11 monthly increase for the average residential electric consumer, and a $10 monthly increase for the average gas consumer.

Nessel's office is challenging both rate-increase requests, and has objected to passing along the costs of travel on corporate jets to rate-payers. According to Coppola's testimony in the two cases, DTE leases a fractional share of an aircraft for use by executives at the vice president level and above for business travel. Board members also travel on the corporate aircraft, records show.

In his written testimony, Coppola said the Michigan Public Service Commission should not allow DTE to recover the costs of private corporate jets, especially because the travel pertains to investor and board of director matters that do not directly benefit consumers, but may benefit shareholders.

Coppola's testimony also noted that while commercial flights may be less convenient, they are less costly and have less of an impact on the environment when comparing the emissions of private and commercial jets, and considering the number of passengers they carry.

In 2020, DTE Energy announced a goal of net zero emissions by 2050. "Private jet travel certainly goes counter to that goal," according to Coppola's testimony.

Three of the passengers on a DTE flight to Marquette were from an environmental organization, The Nature Conservancy. Helen Taylor, who runs the conservancy's Michigan office in Lansing, said it was an opportunity for the conservancy to show DTE its work in forest preservation in the Upper Peninsula.

"I think it was a positive outcome," Taylor told the Free Press. She said the conservancy works with partners of all kinds and makes decisions about transportation based on the circumstances.

In a statement, Matt Helms, a spokesman for the Michigan Public Service Commission, said: "We are unable to comment on issues brought up in rate cases pending before the commission, except to say that the Commission takes seriously its statutory mandate to review utility costs for reasonableness and prudence."

Nessel argues that DTE Gas should receive an annual increase of no more than $112 million, less than half the amount requested. The DTE proposal would raise rates for consumers by almost 10%, her proposal would result in a smaller rate increase of about 4%, according to her office.

She also argues that DTE Electric's annual rate increase should be no more than $139.5 million. DTE's proposal to raise rates to $456.4 million would hike rates for residential consumers by 10%, while her proposed amount would raise rates by 2.5%.

In a news release, Nessel said DTE Electric asked for the latest rate increase just four months after the Michigan Public Service Commission granted the company a $368 million annual rate increase.

More: DTE seeking $266 million increase for natural gas rates; AG's office disagrees

"DTE files these rate hike requests fast and flimsy. We consistently find very little support for many of DTE’s claims.” said Nessel said in a May news release about the DTE Gas rate hike. "A lot of the proposed spending is questionable at best and at times downright insulting to consumers."

DTE sells natural gas to 1.3 million customers across Michigan, and electricity to 2.2 million customers in southeast Michigan.

Traveler reimbursement is based on the location of the work activities and not the accommodations, unless lodging is not available at the work activity, then the agency may authorize the rate where lodging is obtained.

Unless otherwise specified, the per diem locality is defined as "all locations within, or entirely surrounded by, the corporate limits of the key city, including independent entities located within those boundaries."

Per diem localities with county definitions shall include "all locations within, or entirely surrounded by, the corporate limits of the key city as well as the boundaries of the listed counties, including independent entities located within the boundaries of the key city and the listed counties (unless otherwise listed separately)."

When a military installation or Government-related facility (whether or not specifically named) is located partially within more than one city or county boundary, the applicable per diem rate for the entire installation or facility is the higher of the rates which apply to the cities and/or counties, even though part(s) of such activities may be located outside the defined per diem locality.

Meals & Incidentals

The separate amounts for breakfast, lunch and dinner listed in the chart are provided should you need to deduct any of those meals from your trip voucher. For example, if your trip includes meals that are already paid for by the government (such as through a registration fee for a conference), you will need to deduct those meals from your voucher. Refer to Section 301-11.18 of the Federal Travel Regulation for specific guidance on deducting these amounts from your per diem reimbursement claims for meals furnished to you by the government. Other organizations may have different rules that apply for their employees; please check with your organization for more assistance.

Rate cuts on horizon: Jerome Powell says 'time has come' to lower interest rates

Portrait of Paul Davidson

Noting that inflation is easing while the job market is weakening, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell provided the strongest signal yet Friday that the central bank plans to begin cutting historically high interest rates in September.

He gave no clues on how much the Fed would lower its key rate, but most forecasters expect a quarter-point reduction.

“The time has come for policy to adjust,” Powell said Friday at the Fed’s annual symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. “The direction of travel is clear, and the timing and pace of rate cuts will depend on incoming data, the evolving outlook, and the balance of risks.”

He added: “While the task is not complete, we have made a good deal of progress toward that outcome. … My confidence has grown that inflation is on a sustainable path back to 2%,” which is the Fed’s inflation goal.

The language and shift in tone is significant. For months, the Fed has said it would not lower its key rate – now at a 23-year high of 5.25% to 5.5% − until officials were confident inflation was on sustained path to 2%. In June, the Fed’s preferred inflation measure was at 2.5%, down from a high of 5.6% in mid-2022.

Meanwhile, the torrid post-COVID-19 labor market that saw record job growth and sharply rising wages is softening.

“The upside risks to inflation have diminished,” Powell said. “And the downside risks to employment have increased.

“It seems unlikely that the labor market will be a source of elevated inflation pressures anytime soon. We do not seek or welcome further cooling in labor market conditions.”

After a report early this month revealed unusually weak job growth in July and the stock market tumbled, many forecasters said the Fed could cut rates by half a percentage point. Since then, however, strong economic reports have allayed concerns and the market has recovered.

Fed rate cuts would lower borrowing costs for mortgages, credit cards and other consumer and business loans while likely juicing the stock market. It also would reduce bank saving account yields that finally have been generating healthy returns.

Powell’s remarks were widely expected after recent reports showed inflation continued to ease last month while the job market weakened. His comments went further than those he made at a news conference early this month after the Fed held rates steady. At that time, he said inflation has eased notably and officials could cut rates in September “if the data support that.”

Since then, reports have revealed that in July, a different inflation measure, the consumer price index, fell to 2.9%, the lowest level in three years. Meanwhile, U.S. employers added just 114,000 jobs last month, well below the 175,000 expected, and the unemployment rate rose from 4.1% to 4.3%, highest since October 2021.

The figures were so disappointing that the stock market sold off on fears the nation could be headed for a recession and the Fed blundered by not lowering rates at its early August meeting or earlier. Many economists predicted the central bank would cut rates by half a percentage point next month instead of a more typical quarter-point.

The Fed lifts rates to curtail borrowing and economic activity to tame inflation. It lowers rates to stimulate the economy and job market, to stave off a recession or dig the country out of one.

But recent strong economic reports have calmed nerves and stocks have rallied, more than making up for its losses several weeks ago. Sturdy retail sales were better than expected in July. And after leaping last month, initial jobless claims – a reliable gauge of layoffs – have fallen in recent weeks.

Still, forecasters have said a weak jobs report for August could put a half-percentage point cut on the table, especially if inflation continued to ease this month.

More broadly, the job market is decidedly slowing as employers pull back hiring and investing after the Fed’s historic rate hikes. Employers added a still solid average 170,000 jobs the past three months, but that’s down from 227,000 from January through April.

By year’s end, futures markets expect the Fed to cut its key short-term rate three times by a total of as much as a percentage point.

From March 2022 to July 2023, the Fed raised its key rate from near zero to a 23-year high of 5.25% to 5.5% to subdue the largest inflation spike in 40 years.

Has the US achieved a soft landing?

Powell also explained why he believes the Fed seemingly has been able to achieve a “soft landing,” in which Fed rate increases bring down inflation without causing a recession.

The pandemic set off the inflation spike as workers in factories, ports and warehouses were idled by COVID-19 outbreaks. At the same time, Americans hunkered down at home and, flush with stimulus checks, bought massive amounts of furniture, computers and other goods. Inflation, he said, was amplified by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which drove up the price of energy and other commodities.

But eventually, those pandemic-induced distortions waned as the health crisis improved. Widespread labor shortages that drove up employee wages eased. And there were so many job openings – a record 12 million in March 2022 – that the labor market was able to rebalance itself as the number of vacancies declined without significantly pushing up the unemployment rate.

The Fed, he said, played a key role. Its rate hikes succeeded in keeping inflation expectations “anchored,” or stable, despite the sharp rise in prices. That's crucial: If people believe inflation will continue to surge, consumers will keep asking for big raises and companies will keep raising prices, perpetuating spiraling inflation.

“An important takeaway from recent experience is that anchored inflation expectations, reinforced by vigorous central bank actions, can facilitate disinflation” without the need for a big rise in unemployment, Powell said.

“The (Fed) did not flinch from carrying out our responsibilities, and our actions forcefully demonstrated our commitment to restoring price stability.”

There are different types of accommodations on board available, so make sure to book in advance if possible to have the most comfortable long travel by sea.

Traveler on the tip of a boat in Palawan

Traveling around the top attractions in Palawan destinations is possible through different types of land and sea transfers. You may opt to commute, hire private transfers, or rent self-drive vehicles. Take note that not all of these are applicable for long travels or all Palawan destinations, so find out first, which are the best transportation for the distance and place you're traveling to.

Palawan's leading island destinations like Puerto Princesa, El Nido, and San Vicente/Port Barton can be explored by land transfers, while the separate islands of Coron can only be reached by sea transfer from the main island. Here are some of your options when exploring the island of Palawan.

By Bus

If you're coming from Palawan's main island destinations and want to travel to/from destinations like Puerto Princesa, El Nido, and San Vicente/Port Barton, then riding a public bus is one of your options. You have the option to ride an ordinary (non-AC) or air-conditioned bus.

It is convenient for those who travel with big or multiple luggage since there are compartments where you can store them. There's also more legroom making for a more comfortable ride, especially on long trips. The only downside is that the travel time might be longer than vans because buses make stops along the way to pick-up or drop-off passengers.

Riding vans is another land transfer option for long trips in the main island of Palawan when traveling to/from Puerto Princesa and El Nido, and San Vicente/Port Barton. Vans are slightly faster than the buses because they usually do point-to-point transfers (ex: Puerto Princesa to El Nido) and only make stops for lunch or bathroom breaks.

Vans alone leave the terminals once it's full of passengers, so you might need to wait, especially during the lean season or hours. There are no big compartments for luggage like buses so it might get crammed inside with little legroom. You also have the option to hire a private van if you're traveling with a big group or want the exclusivity and more legroom.

By Jeepney

The iconic jeepneys in the Philippines are also available in Palawan, mainly in the capital Puerto Princesa. These are ideal only when traveling within a town or a city since they follow a specific route.

You'll be sharing the ride with locals or other tourists since a jeepney can accommodate up to 16 people or more depending on its size. If you want to ride a jeepney, it's best to know first which route will pass by the attraction you're going to.

The drivers and locals are your best source of information, so don't be afraid to ask. You can also advise the driver where you're heading so he can notify you if it's already your stop.

Tricyles in Coron, Palawan

Unlike the jeepney, tricycles can travel outside of their routes and drop you off directly to your destination. Regular tricycles are available in the town centers of Puerto Princesa, El Nido, and Coron, while rechargeable electronic tricycles (e-trikes) are available in San Vicente/Port Barton.

However, these can only accommodate 2-4 people depending on the size and layout of the tricycle. You can also hire these as private transfers for a full day of the tour. Rates will depend on your deal with the driver.

The Palawan main island destinations can be explored by land travel, except for Coron, which is located north in a separate group of islands. You can get to Coron from the main island of Palawan by riding a ferry.

The most popular route is El Nido to Coron and vice versa. Travel time is around 4 hours for this route. Make sure to check the dates of ferry transfers so you can plan your itinerary accordingly.

By Motorcycle

For a more rugged type of travel, you can ride a motorcycle (locally called habal-habal) with a local driver or rent a self-drive motorcycle. These are a great option if you're traveling alone or with a buddy. Motorcycles are suitable for both short and long-distance travel, and can even take you through narrow roads to do your exploring.

Luxury beach resort in El Nido, Palawan

This section will discuss the types of accommodation, neighborhoods, and areas, and recommended hotels, resorts, or guesthouses in Palawan.

You will have several options on where to stay in Palawan, each one offering a different experience, crowd, and view. Read on below to learn about the types of accommodations around Palawan so you can choose the best one for your preference and budget.

Island and Beach Resorts

Like a tropical getaway destination, the best accommodation locations in Palawan are those on islands and beaches. You'll get an unobstructed view and direct access to the white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and stunning sunsets for that idyllic island life. These resorts are perfect for those who want to go on a honeymoon in the Philippines . Price points depend on the amenities and how secluded or private the island or beach is.

But the majority are on the mid- to high-range prices. Most of these Philippines luxury resorts have restaurants, bars, pools, and dive centers in the property already.

Palawan also has a variety of hotels, from low to high-range prices with modern to native designs. If you're staying in town centers, you'll most likely find several hotels that can suit any budget or preference.

It's just a matter of choosing the best ones to fit your criteria and preferred location. The higher-priced hotels have complete amenities with magnificent views, while lower prices hotels have basic features.

Backpacker Hostels/Inns/Guesthouses

For shoestring budget travelers, don't fret because Palawan also has accommodation options for you. There are backpacker-friendly accommodations like budget hostels, inns, and guesthouses all over Palawan.

You can choose from dorm-type to private rooms. The majority of these have shared bathrooms and shared spaces. If you like meeting other travelers from all over the world and don't mind a busy crowd, especially at night, then this is a good option for you.

Camping and Glamping

Want to be one with nature and sleep under the stars while the crashing of the waves lulls you to sleep? Go for camping or glamping type of accommodations in Palawan.

You can choose to bring your tent and pitch in camping grounds or book in glamping resorts. Glamping is a more glamorous type of camping where you're provided with a tent furnished with a mattress and other fixtures for a comfortable stay.

Vacation Rentals

Live like the locals when you book vacation rentals in Palawan. These are privately-owned houses where you're given exclusive use of the units that have a fully-equipped kitchen and furnished bedrooms and living room. These are a good option if you're traveling with a big group and prefer to lessen expenses by preparing your food.

Where you stay during your trip is essential. It will significantly affect where you eat, the duration of travel time, transportation budget, and the vibe of the place. It is why you have to carefully choose which neighborhoods or areas you prefer to stay in before booking accommodation.

Town Center

If you want to be close to restaurants and bars, souvenir shops, and transport terminals, then you should book accommodation in the town centers of Palawan destinations. The majority of accommodations here, however, don't have direct access to the beaches. Most town center accommodations are hotels, backpacker hostels/inns/guesthouses, and vacation rentals.

Islands

If you prefer to splurge for exclusivity and privacy, you should check out accommodations like luxury resorts in the islands of Palawan.

Island accommodations usually already have complete amenities and in-island establishments since you can't easily travel to the town centers. Island accommodations are typically limited to just several rooms or villas per island, so it's best to book these in advance.

These range from budget to luxury accommodations and offer different experiences and vibe, depending on the location and infrastructure. Practical Information and Tips

Excited to plan your Palawan trip? Read on below first on some essential travel tips that will make your Palawan trip hassle-free. Sometimes it’s these small things we tend to ignore that make or break a trip.

Currency

Bring enough cash in Philippines Peso (PHP)  wherever you're going in Palawan. While there are ATM in Puerto Princesa and some town centers, it's better to be always prepared. Make sure to break your cash in smaller bills if you're exploring areas that are not busy.  Some high-end restaurants or hotels and resorts accept credit cards, but to be safe, cash is still the best.

Language

The locals of Palawan speak Filipino, Cuyonon, and other dialects and languages. The majority can understand and speak basic English, especially those that work in tourism-related establishments. Try to talk in a neutral accent so locals can easily know what you're saying.

If you plan to do physically-demanding activities like trekking or extreme sports, make sure that you pack the right gear. Some accommodations in Palawan, like El Nido, don't have electricity 24/7, so bring flashlights with you. San Vicente is particularly notorious for sand flies or small mosquitoes during night time, mainly near the beach, so make sure to pack insect repellant.
