Top 14 Best Watch Travel Cases

There are watch travel cases in all types, shapes, and forms. Most commonly, they have room for one watch only but watch travel cases are available with a number of different slots.

A watch travel case can come in handy both when you are traveling, but also when storing your watches. Watch travel cases are usually small and compact but protect well. Regardless if you are traveling and want to keep your watches safe, or if you need a good place to put your watches, a travel case can be a good complement to your collection.

Some of the factors to consider when buying a watch travel case are the following:

Number of watches

When buying a watch travel case, think about how many watches you want to be able to store. Travel cases are available in a wide array of sizes, from one watch to five or more. A single-watch travel case tends to be the most popular alternative, but if you need to store multiple watches, you will need something bigger.

If you are going to opt for a travel case that can store multiple watches, my advice is to get one where the watches are separated from each other inside. The issue with some travel cases is that the watch slots inside are not separated, which can cause them to scratch and damage each other.

Another factor to consider for your travel case is the material from which it is made of. The cheaper options are usually made in a hard fabric, whereas the more premium travel cases are often made in premium leather. Material is important because of looks, but also for durability. Naturally, a hard case will offer a greater level of protection compared to one that is made of leather or soft fabric.

Watch travel cases come in many different shapes. One of the most common is the single-watch travel case which often has a circular or square shape. But another common shape is the watch roll, which is slightly oval or circular.

The design is another important aspect that you want to consider in your watch travel case. This does not only have to do with looks but also with functionality. For example, if you are traveling and are going to bring multiple watches, it may be a good idea to choose a briefcase that stores and protects the watches in a good way. In the same way, if you’re just going away for the weekend and bringing two watches, a watch travel case may be more convenient. With that said, think about if you want a watch roll, a briefcase, or perhaps a storage box. All of these serve a purpose.

Below, we list some of the best watch travel cases to make storing and traveling with your watches easier and safer. If you are traveling and bringing watches, a travel case will make sure to keep them safe.

In our opinion, it also looks quite nice and has a high-quality feel to it. The case is made in calf leather and both feel and look nice. It comes with a 12-month warranty. The flap is tightened and can be fastened to keep the watch protected and prevent it from falling out.

It also provides a robust construction from the outside so the case won’t get squashed. This one-watch travel case is great if you only need to travel with one watch. It’s rather small and convenient but is well-built to keep the watch protected at all times. The velvet watch pillows keep the watches in place and well-protected. 10 Watch Briefcase Black Carbon Fiber

This is less of a watch box and briefcase rather than a travel case, however, if you are going to transport a lot of watches, this may be an appropriate choice.

This watch briefcase has room for 10 watches. It is made in a beautiful carbon fiber pattern in black color.

The construction is padded foam on the inside lid to provide protection, as well as a Zippered briefcase design. For storing 10 watches, it is actually quite compact and convenient.

ModernGen 6 Slot Watch Box Travel

This watch travel case/briefcase is the ultimate way to keep your watches safe during travels. The issue is that it is big and not so practical, but what it does is keep the watches inside well-protected.

The case is 100% waterproof, dustproof, and impact resistant. It is made of molded plastic and sealed with an airtight and watertight gasket. It has 6 large compartments for storing your watches, and each cushion can hold both small and large watches. Whilst it is big, it is relatively easy to carry thanks to its handle.

  • Inner Dimension: 10 x 7.28 x 3.26 inches
  • Outer Dimension: 11.02 x 9.05 x 3.85 inches

Tech Swiss Watch Case Aluminum Briefcase

This watch travel case is more on the heavy and large side, but it does its job of keeping their watches protected well. It is a heavy-duty watch briefcase with a handle, made of aluminum. With its briefcase design, it is both discreet and practical. It has a textured Exterior and a layer of foam in the lid for Additional Support. It can hold up to 18 timepieces, and it has soft removable cushions which can fit both large and small bracelets.

  • Case Dimension: 14.5″L x 12″ W x 4″H Compartment Size: 3.25″ L x 2.25″W x 3.75″H

To keep the watches safe, it has a velvet black interior and a secure double frontal lock. This is a great alternative if you have a large collection and want to see them well-protected. If you only have a few watches, it’s probably a good idea to opt for something smaller.

Decorebay Rich Man Roll Style Travel

The Decorebay travel case roll can hold up to 3 watches. It has a snap closure to keep them in place and has an inner felt lining to prevent scratches.

The watch pillows are removable and can hold a wide array of bracelet sizes (which is not something all cases can do).

Its convenient shape and size make it easy to carry and pack when traveling. A detail we love is the red velvet-lined interior which not only is practical but also looks great. The exterior leather is also nice with its textured finish. Something we do not like about this travel case, however, is that it only consists of one roll, with no protection barriers, which can make the watches hit each other when traveling.

WATCHPOD Double Watch Travel Case Storage

The Watchpod double watch travel case storage holds 2 watches and keeps them well protected.

This is definitely one of the smartest and simple watch travel cases on the market. It’s small, it’s convenient, and it stores two watches like a travel case, but separately to avoid scuffing.

The inside of the case is designed to hold a watch snugly fit to prevent any movement. The case is a hardshell case that keeps it from bending in. Furthermore, it has a soft lycra exterior and felt interior lining. The zipper keeps them in place, but also allows for easy access. In our opinion, the size of this case makes it a really great travel companion.

The Watchpod travel case comes with a one-year warranty.

Casebudi is a triple-watch travel case that can store up to three watches. It is not the most beautiful travel case, but it offers extremely good

Protection due to the Ballistic Nylon Exterior which is non-scuffing, robust, and durable. And after all, that is the most important aspect of a travel case. Especially if you actually use it when traveling and not just as a place to store your watches.

It has a thicker core material made of eco-friendly EVA that, according to the manufacturer is over 50% thicker than other brands.

The case is equipped with foam watch holders to keep each watch separate and protected.

The case comes with a 1-year warranty.

Take to me to : How to Choose the Right Briefcase for You | How We Made Our Picks

Investing in a briefcase might feel a bit, uh, old old-fashioned . But your daily work bag doesn't have to look so dusty. After all, our modern-day working experience isn't so tied to stuffy cubicles as it is a local cafe or shared workspaces…or our own kitchen. And briefcases have morphed accordingly. These days they're lighter, but no less well-constructed, more adaptable to the many environments and “offices” we inhabit. And, crucially, they're a lot more stylish. That’s not to say the bags aren’t still elegant (they very much are), but they’re capable of taking a licking and still ticking. But only the best briefcases will look better the more you use them. Briefcases also help you focus on the essentials, ensuring that you’re not overpacking while providing plenty of storage. Dedicated laptop sleeves provide safe and secure storage with siloed zipper pockets for tablets, notebooks, and even smartphone pockets. Having everything organized in one place can help eliminate the digging around that sometimes happens in larger-sized bags, as everything is essentially all right at your fingertips.  So it's time to grow up, but if you're not sure where to begin, we’ve got you covered with a veritable A-team of options. From the hyper-technical to the rugged workhorses to the classically elegant, the high-end flexes to the affordable entry points. So, yes. Investing in a briefcase might feel like the turning of a page to being slightly more serious—but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun considering all the new options in the process.

The Best Everyday Briefcase: Bellroy Via Work Bag

Image may contain: Bag, Tote Bag, Accessories, and Handbag

Via Work Bag

Bellroy's got a knack for minimalist design with maximalist functionality and its Tech Briefcase is a deceptively simple bag that belies its many features. The strategically-designed interior delivers maximum storage capacity in a handsome minimalist package. Unzip the sturdy nylon shell to pack in everything you need for a day at the grind: a laptop, water bottle, and a spare sweater to battle office AC extremes. Inside you'll find a padded laptop sleeve, a mesh zip pocket for keeping your smaller items like keys and sunglasses protected, and a generous center cavity for anything else you may need to haul to and from the office. On the outside, it's got a cleverly hidden zip pocket for easy-access items like a book or an iPad as well as a luggage pass-through feature that lets you attach it to luggage. Its weather resistant fabric and coated zippers help protect your goods from the weather, too. But the most clever feature might be the hidden AirTag slip pocket so you can feel safe and secure.

The Best Value Briefcase: Time Resistance Leather Briefcase

gq best briefcase time resistance full grain leather

Time Resistance

Full-Grain Leather Briefcase

Amazon might not be the first place you look for a top-shelf briefcase, but we'll forgive the oversight. Crafted in Italy from fine full-grain leather with heavy brass hardware, this classic design by Time Resistance is fit to pair with your sharpest suits. Got an important meeting coming up first thing…Monday? Don't sweat it, that's what Prime is for.

The Best Rugged-but-Refined Briefcase: Filson Original Briefcase

Image may contain: Bag, Accessories, Handbag, Canvas, Tote Bag, and Briefcase

Rugged Twill Original Briefcase

Filson has a storied legacy going back to the Gold Rush days as a manufacturer of quality and dependable goods and clothing, which is to say that their Original Briefcase is built to last. Constructed from a heavy-duty twill fabric that’s similar to what you’d find on a sturdy work or chore coat , the exterior will stay together no matter how rough on it you are. It’s also lightly waxed so that it’s water-resistant if it gets caught in the rain. Critically, the bottom is super reinforced so that when you’re loading up the two wide stow interior pockets, the fabric won’t rip or shred. Plus, the interior pockets keep everything organized and at a glance when you need it most. Rugged yet refined, the Original Briefcase is pretty much exactly what you’d want from a bag nowadays: something capable yet timeless and with plenty of functionality so that you buy it once and hold onto it forever.

The Best Leather Briefcase: Carl Friedrik Palissy Briefcase

Image may contain: Bag, Accessories, Handbag, and Briefcase

Carl Friedrik

Palissy Briefecase

Briefcases are so inherently utilitarian that it might be odd to think of something so functional as sexy. And yet, that’s exactly the first thing that comes to mind when you see Carl Friedrik’s Palissy Briefcase. It feels like the briefcase you’d see the employees of Sterling Cooper carrying back in the ‘60s, thanks to an extremely elegant vachetta leather, which is the de-facto go-to material for high-end bags. But it’s not just that gloriously smooth, blemish-free exterior that will age gracefully. The gorgeous nickel-silver hardware really pops and will only look better the more you use the bag. Plus, it’s on the slimmer side of things, while still ensuring you’ve got enough room for a laptop, a tablet, and multiple other essentials thanks to a handful of interior zipper pockets. So, yes, this is a sexy bag, thank you very much!

The Best Rolling Briefcase for Travel: Tumi Alpha 3 Briefcase

gq best briefcase tumi nylon

Alpha 3 Collection Compact 4-wheel Laptop Briefcase

A rolling briefcase is a briefcase in the same way that a flying car is a car. And we'll admit that, personally, collectively, we'd probably opt for any other briefcase on this page, paired with some of our favorite carry-on luggage , to handle our business class needs. But with those confessions out of the way, we recognize that some of you are living that Up In the Air life, and optimization trumps vibes. So cash in those credit card points and get Tumi's Alpha 3 Collection rolling briefcase.

It's a softshell briefcase that holds laptops up to 15" and lets you knock out a 2-day trade show without subjecting your spine to 12-hour days lugging presentations and paperwork. Since there's no need to stay svelte, the Tumi brings a removable accordion folder, mesh panels, a gang of media pockets, a USB-A port (though it's BYO battery), and enough room for a change of clothes. Maneuvering through the airport is easy, too, thanks to its 360-degree spinner wheels and a sleeve that easily attaches to your other luggage, making for a kind of rolling luggage totem pole. Of course, it passes muster as a carry-on, so you don't have to worry about checking your work essentials. After that, your only concerns are figuring out in-flight WiFi and how to expense those in-flight whiskeys.

The Best Convertible Briefcase: Porter-Yoshida & Co. 3Way Briefcase

Image may contain: Bag, Backpack, and Briefcase

Porter-Yoshida & Co.

3Way Tank Briefcase

Todd Snyder

Porter-Yoshida & Co.'s Tanker bag is inspired by military flight jackets: you can see it in the standard-issue sateen fabric with contrasting orange interior, which makes finding your goods easy. Visibility gets even easier: the main compartment hinges open from one side, lying flat like luggage. Technically there's no laptop sleeve, but the slimmer zipped pocket is where you'd stash your MacBook. (We'd recommend bringing your own protective sleeve.) But we haven't gotten to the “3Way” part of the Tanker's name—and why we love this brief. It can go from tote to cross-body to backpack in a flash, with integrated backpack straps flipping out of a zipped pocket and clipping into place in seconds. Which makes running around town (or the terminal) a lot easier on your spine.

The Best Briefcase for a Weekend Away: L.L.Bean Stonington Work Bag

gq best briefcase ll bean cotton

Stonington Daily Carry Work Bag

If you need to carry a change of clothes—maybe because work's taking you on an overnighter, or you're hitting the gym before clocking in—you want a bag that can handle the extra gear without looking like you dragged your weekender into an executive meeting. Bean's hybrid is simple enough to blend in everywhere, but has enough structure to keep things looking put together. Canvas, leather handles and zip pulls, and L.L.Bean's classic Northeastern style bring a vintage (but not old-timey) style. We'd probably opt for one of the two darker colors; they look a little more serious, and since this is untreated cotton canvas, they'll hide the inevitable coffee spills and accumulated dirt better.

The Best Splurge-Worthy Briefcase: Goyard Ambassade Briefcase

gq best briefcase goyard calfskin leather

Goyard Ambassade briefcase

There's a reason your favorite rappers all name-drop Goyard a dozen times an album. The French luggage and bag house deals only in absolute grails, the type designed specifically for flaunting at your side as you descend the stairs of a private jet. This soft-sided briefcase allows you to bring all that pure opulence with you into work every day, with its iconic hand-painted, coated-canvas exterior and calfskin trims practically screaming, “I'VE MADE IT!” And honestly, if you've hustled hard enough to afford a bag this beautiful, you really have. (Speaking of price, we should clarify: Goyard's Ambassade is, obviously, not $0. Goyard doesn't sell this bag online. You'll need to call or visit a shop to get yourself hooked up. Prepare to spend four figures.)

The Best Large-and-In-Charge Briefcase

Image may contain: Bag, Accessories, Handbag, Briefcase, Electrical Device, and Switch

Thom Browne

Mr. Thom Briefcase

Office attire had been in the doldrums before Thom Browne came along to shift it into high-fashion territory . Of course, his brief is going to do the same. The elegant bell shape pays homage to vintage luggage, opening like a doctor's bag so you can dig around inside easily. Brass hardware against the lightly pebbled leather, with a small hit of Browne's signature red-white-and-blue grosgrain on the hang tag feels very now . There's only a single zip pocket built into the lining, but acres of space in there—at eight inches front-to-back, this brief's double the depth of almost every other briefcase option here. That means it'll happily fit your laptop, documents, and everything else during the workweek, then swallow a couple Oxford cloth button downs and some underwear as a chic weekender bag.

Your Briefcase-Related FAQs, Answered

There are a few non-negotiables when it comes to a quality briefcase, in our eyes: A laptop sleeve, ideally padded. At least two compartments for stashing chargers and things like keys, pens, and a granola bar for the midday lull. It should close so people can't dash off with your MacBook while you're ordering a half-calf.

From there, we get into matters of priority. Personally, we want enough space to stash a water bottle (hydration, so important). We also want the option to carry it with handles or sling it over our shoulder with an (ideally removable, definitely comfortable) strap, because not every day needs to be arm day. But we have a fashion-forward model or two that don't have either, and one Platinum Club-ready model that swaps straps for wheels. You gotta know what works for your work.

Finally, you gotta decide what looks right. You don't want to be hauling around a briefcase that makes you feel like a kid in his dad's clothes, nor do you want a brief that puts you at a disadvantage in the room. A big fashion flex might be your personal dream, but may send the wrong message if your weekdays are spent soliciting charitable donations. On the flip side, you can absolutely make a rugged Filson work with your power suit. Ultimately, you're the best judge of where cool and crushing it come together in the best briefcase for your situation.

Construction: A briefcase gets used and abused for 5/7ths of the week—more if you're a weekend road warrior. As a result, we look for top-quality fabrics, supple leather, well-sewn seams, hardy carry handles and straps, and zippers that don't bind or feel ready to blow out the first time you get a little overzealous packing for the day. Quality isn't always proportional to price, though up to about $1,000, every extra hundo or two tends to bring upgrades on the specs.

Style: We're past the Mad Men era of uniformly dark suits and boxy leather briefs; briefcases are now as aesthetically varied as the jobs you'd use them for. You can go sleek or fashion-forward, simple or rugged. But whatever briefcase you carry (or sling over your shoulder), it should feel like it means business in the way you need it to.

Storage: We're looking for a well-organized, adaptable interior that'll protect your laptop in its own sleeve and let you stash both odds-and-ends (from keys to keycards to headphones) and bigger stuff (maybe even gym gear) in smart, accessible ways. And we like exterior pockets on soft-sided briefs for easy grab-n-go gear.

The 11 Very Best Men’s Dopp Kits

Compact enough to squeeze in a carry-on and durable enough to withstand years of travel..

Portrait of Katherine Gillespie

In this article

Best dopp kit overall.

  • Best extra-large and mini
  • Best stylish
  • Best waterproof
  • Best leather
  • Best flexible

A great Dopp kit will keep your grooming essentials organized once you reach your destination and prevent them from leaking in your bag while you’re in transit. It must be waterproof (or at least water-resistant ), have a wide opening that means you won’t have to rummage around, and have a handy loop or hook for easy storage in whatever bathrooms your trips take you to. To find the best Dopp kits that meet these criteria, I cross referenced recommendations we’ve received over the years from stylish men who are always on the go , from grooming experts to creative directors. Then I ordered samples to test those recommendations out for myself, placing products inside and playing around with how they’d fit into various compartments. Below, find well-organized pouches and bags for every kind of trip. While you’re here, I’ve also written about the best travel toiletry bottles and personal-item carry-on bags for flying .

Update on August 20, 2024:  Named Sea to Summit’s Hanging Toiletry Bag the best lightweight Dopp kit; updated prices and checked stock for all products.

What we’re looking for

Hanger type.

One thing all the best Dopp kits have is either a hook or handle so it can be hung up when you get to your destination. It gives you back some counter space and it ensures your stuff won’t be sitting in water all day. It means you can carry it around easily instead of having to “hold it like a football,” according to photographer Gray Malin . Ones with hooks, called hanging dopp kits, take it a step further and allow you to open up the bag while it’s hanging, which gives you a full view of all your products. “It unfolds like a mini garment bag and has a little hanger so you can keep your stuff out of the sink,” Nick Greene, author of How to Watch Basketball Like a Genius , describes his pick. “It makes you feel grown,” Greene summarizes, “without busting your bank.”

Surprisingly, few of the travelers we spoke to prioritized compartments within the Dopp kit as something they were looking for. While they are a bonus, “you don’t need a lot of zippers, pockets, and compartments,” Peter Hunsinger, the co-founder of sock brand Kane 11 , says. He prefers something easy to open that allows you to see everything. Our experts were above all concerned with the size of the kit. Most of the cases below have room for your skin-care routine and travel-size toiletries, but there are a few ten-liter Dopp kits that appear on our list, which are large enough to hold a compact blow-dryer or clippers. While the latter may take up more room for those who travel light, the size is ideal for those who can’t travel without taking a chunk of their bathroom. Every bag on this list is made from a fabric flexible enough to squish into an already stuffed suitcase or weekender, so the larger size shouldn’t be a problem.

Speaking of material, that seems to be the most important thing to consider when buying a Dopp kit. Something durable, easy to clean, and water resistant is what you want to look for. You’ll find that many are made from nylon, which is wipeable in case of spills. It won’t be ruined by sitting on a wet countertop. Leather, silicone, and canvas have these qualities as well, the latter of which is another popular option among our experts. The thick material is durable and affordable, and it can look more distinguished than other common Dopp kit materials. Like the other fabrics, they can be wiped or spot-cleaned. The material on the inside is just as important. It should be easy to clean and waterproof or resistant as well. For that, nylon or canvas is the way to go.

The last thing to consider is how easy it is to get to your products, which is easiest with a Dopp kit that unzips all the way around to lie flat. This is guaranteed with hanging bags, while with others it’s a toss-up. Each of the options below either unzips fully or has a wide mouth.

Aer Travel Kit

Hanger type: Hook | Size: 2.5 L | Material: Nylon | Access: Wide opening

For just under $50, here’s a hanging toiletry bag with multiple compartments that’s literally constructed from ballistic nylon , a material that was originally developed to protect soldiers from shrapnel. So I think you can reasonably expect it to arrive at LAX unscathed. I’ve found that Aer’s Travel Kit is water-resistant on both the interior and exterior and isn’t too oversize to place into a small backpack for weekend trips. (It also lies nice and flat when zipped up, which is ideal for suitcases.) It has a hidden hook for hanging and while compact when zipped up, still manages to fit all your necessities. On the outside, there are front and back pockets as well as an exterior toothbrush holder. Inside, there are two zippered pockets and elastic organizers for your toiletry bottles. I also like that it has YKK zippers and an antimicrobial coating on the liner. Barron Cuadro, the founding editor of Effortless Gent , adds that the nylon is not only “crazy durable” but also easy to clean.

Best (less expensive) Dopp kit

Muji Hanging Case

Hanger type: Hook | Size: | Material: Polyester | Access: Wide opening

For less than half the price of the Aer bag, you can get this one by Muji. Compared to the Aer, it’s significantly smaller and made from cheaper polyester. But it doesn’t feel flimsy, and when I placed travel-size bottles of shampoo and conditioner inside (Muji’s own reusable toiletry bottles are obviously very compatible, but others work too), they were well-secured. A toothbrush fits easily, but you’ll have to place it horizontally. While the fabric might not be as nice as ballistic nylon, it’s still very resilient and quick-drying. And honestly, I find that larger Dopp kits can sometimes just encourage overpacking of bulky tools and products. This Muji case is the bag Greene said made him feel “grown,” with its garment-bag-style hanging option. Inside, there are two zippered pockets and four elastic holders for bottles or grooming tools. Then there’s another zippered pocket on the front of the bag, plus another slip pocket on the back.

Best Dopp kit that sits upright

Peak Design Wash Pouch

Hanger type: None | Size: 2.5 L | Material: DWR-treated nylon | Access: Wide opening

I am a fan of Peak Design’s indestructible packing cubes and tech organizers; the brand is known for its slim “origami” fabric pockets, which expand and contract as needed. Photographer Michael Blevins has happily been using this Dopp kit since 2020. “I needed something that was not a floppy bag with lots of excess room while still fitting all my essentials,” he says. “Others I’ve had were either made from heavy leather or made from cheaper quality materials, and the zippers tended to fail.” On a recent trip to Germany he was able to store spray deodorant, an electric razor, a toothbrush, toothpaste, and tooth floss, hair cream, tweezers, nail clippers and a file, a beard comb, beard oil, cologne, travel-sized body wash and shampoo, and a box of matches into the bag, which sits flat and opens wide instead of hanging from a top hook. It worked “exceptionally well.”

Best lightweight Dopp kit

Sea to Summit Hanging Toiletry Bag - Small

Hanger type: Hook | Size: 1 L | Material: Ultra-Sil Cordura nylon | Access: Wide opening

I am a happy owner of outdoor brand Sea to Summit’s packable day pack , so I was curious to try its Dopp kit made from the same very thin yet durable Ultra-Sil fabric. Though it’s designed especially with campers and backpackers in mind, I think this compact toiletries case would suit any traveler who wants to avoid the extra weight of a hefty leather Dopp kit. It is small but thoughtfully laid out, with three internal mesh zipper compartments that let you see what’s stored inside as well as one large open compartment for bigger items like shampoo and soap. At just 2.8 ounces, it feels featherlight compared to the Aer, Muji, and Peak Design options above — when empty you can scrunch the case up in your hands. There’s a tiny removable mirror for shaving, and the coat-hanger-style hook is surprisingly sturdy.

Best extra-large Dopp kit

Patagonia Black Hole Cube (Large)

Hanger type: Carry loop | Size: 14L | Material: Polyester ripstop | Access: Wide opening

Sometimes you have to think outside the box to find the best solution to your problem. Bags that aren’t technically Dopp kits, such as this Patagonia packing cube , might actually be the best thing for storing your toiletries. Like the rest of the brand’s products, it’s built for the outdoors. Matt Kays, a senior vice-president at PR Consulting, relies on this Patagonia number for its ripstop, practically indestructible exterior. He actually has two: He uses one as a Dopp kit for travel and the other as a wet bag to hold his things when he goes to the beach, so you know the water resistance is serious. This packing cube doesn’t have many compartments, which Hunsinger actually appreciates. It unzips to lie flat and opens like a hard-shell suitcase: Both sides are separated by a mesh zippered partition. One side alone can hold a pair of shoes, so you’d easily be able to stuff all your grooming products as well as clippers or a travel blow-dryer in here if you needed to. This bag has both a top handle and a daisy chain for clipping it to something else or hanging it from a hook.

Best simple Dopp kit

Topo Designs 5L Cube Pack Bag

Hanger type: Carry loop | Size: 5 L | Material: Nylon | Access: Wide opening

This is another packing cube turned Dopp kit. But here, you get the same-size bag for half the cost. Topo Designs makes a specific, triangular-shaped toiletry bag, but barber Mark Miguez, of New York City’s Friend of a Barber , prefers its ten-liter packing cube because it lies flat, adding that he has used “so many Dopp kits for work” and that this is the one he has been happiest with. It’s cheaper than the Topo Designs Dopp kit. It’s made from  400D nylon , which has great abrasion resistance, water resistance, and tear strength. It has a U-shaped opening, so it lies flat, and you can easily toss in and retrieve your products. It has a nice loop handle, which makes it easy to hang in places without counter-height surfaces. There are no compartments inside, so you’ll want to make sure your toiletry caps are screwed on tight and not breakable, as there’s nothing to hold them in place.

Best waterproof Dopp kit

Tooletries Koby Bag

Hanger type: No carry loop | Size: 5.9 L | Material: Silicone | Access: Average opening

Tooletries makes waterproof silicone accessories that suction to your shower wall, making your grooming tools accessible and the whole experience more streamlined. It has thought of everything from a soap holder to a beer holder to a shower mirror and has brought its technology outside the shower with this silicone Dopp kit. Its waterproof, leather-looking, antibacterial silicone is what Kyle Bergman, former senior merchant at Birchbox and founder of Swoveralls, loves most about the bag, saying it’s “leakproof and essentially stain-resistant,” as well as “very easy to clean.” It doesn’t have as much of a handle as some others, but based on the product images, the loop seems to have been designed to be big enough to fit a finger through, though using it with a carabiner to hook on to another bag might be more comfortable. It’s a medium-size bag compared to the other Dopp kits on this list, but Bergman was still impressed with the size: “It’s like an old-school Chevy Suburban inside with the amount of room it has for various products.” He didn’t mention the zipper or how easy it was to access products, but the opening is visibly smaller than others on this list. You’ll still be able to access your toiletries, but you might not be able to see them all at once.

Best Dopp kit with a waterproof compartment

Herschel Chapter Travel Kit - 5L

Hanger type: Extra large carry loop | Size: 5 L | Material: Nylon canvas | Access: Wide opening

Herschel is one of the most trusted names in luggage and backpacks , so it makes sense that the brand makes a solid Dopp kit. Dylan Raasch , senior design director at Nike , always travels for work with his. “I’ve been on dozens of trips with it and it looks as new as the day I bought it. It’s easy to clean and seems to fit everything I need without having to dig around.” It doubles as a travel and storage item, where Raasch keeps his things organized so his partner can take up shelf space with her toiletries. The bag is also a favorite of former Strategist editor Maxine Builder. She says it has just the right amount of pockets — enough that everything has a space, but not so many that she forgets where she’s put something. She’s also a fan of the oversize hook, which has “proved to be really useful when I’m digging through a duffel bag .”

Best leather Dopp kit

Dopp Admiral Travel Kit

Hanger type: Carry Loop | Size: 3.6 L | Material: Leather | Access: Wide opening

For a classic option, here’s the original Dopp model that gave these kits their name. Investment banker Tsz Hin Kwok says he has used his leather Dopp kit “pretty much daily” for the past few years because it’s longer than most other kits (but still portable). We reached out to Dopp, who told us that Kwok’s exact model is no longer in production, but pointed us towards this remarkably similar option. Like Kwok’s, the kit is also made from leather, which means it’s built to last and luxurious. At a length of 10.25, it’s great for oblong items like a hairbrush, or full-size tubes of toothpaste or hair gel if you’re checking a bag. The kit also has a flat bottom and a wide mouth like a vintage doctor’s bag, as well as a convenient carry loop.

Best luxury-leather Dopp kit

Leatherology Double-Zip Toiletry Bag — Cognac

Hanger type: Carry loop | Size: 5.5 L | Material: Leather | Access: Wide opening

Given your Dopp kit will inevitably become smeared with toothpaste, it feels slightly wrong to recommend purchasing anything too extravagant. But if you are prepared to make more of an investment, this leather kit is a worthwhile splurge. It’s good-looking but not too precious to get dirty. The outside wipes clean anyway, and the inside lining is water resistant in case of leaks or spills. These double zippered pockets are equal in size, adding to the “structural” design that made Gray attracted to it. (And it looks a lot like the $1,790 Tom Ford bag the Points Guy recommended to us but comes at a fraction of the cost. ) It’s perfect for overpackers, traveling with a partner, or just separating your a.m. and p.m. routines. As Gray says, “It just fits everything.” It has the extra-special touch of being customizable: You can choose between signature and premium leather, and if you purchase it from Leatherology, there is an option to monogram it for an additional $10 to $15. Malin went with a rose-gold monogram, but you can pick from 22-karat gold, silver, or other options.

Best flexible Dopp kit

Topo Designs Men's Travel Kit

Hanger type: Carry loop | Size: 3 L | Material: Coated nylon | Access: Wide opening

Particularly if you’re more prone to traveling with a duffel bag or backpack as opposed to hard luggage , it might be worth considering a long and slender Dopp kit instead of a flat rectangular one. This Topo Designs toiletry bag that’s shaped like a pencil case is designed to squish into tight spaces, says Thomas Pardee , brand director at Lupine Creative. That’s not to say the bag is small. “The triangular shape is deceptively roomy,” Pardee says. It sits upright on any surface without tipping over, but in case of spills, its coated-nylon fabric is water resistant and easy to wipe clean. The kit also has a heavy-duty zipper with handy grab tabs to pull on, as well as a sturdy strap to loop over a hook.

“Travel shorts” can mean something different depending on who you ask. For me, I look to pack two different types of shorts in my bag when I travel in warm weather or summer months.

I want a pair of shorts that I can wear to look “presentable,” like if I’m going out to dinner or to an event at a friend’s wedding weekend. I also want a pair of shorts that will maximize comfort and function, but have plenty of flexibility as well.

In this roundup, I’ve tested and rounded up my favorite shorts for travel, and I’ll mix and match between those two categories. I suggest keeping that in mind while perusing my list that follows.

For reference, I am 5’9” tall, and about 165 pounds. More “athletic” styles usually fit and flatter me the best.

If you’re reading this article closer to the fall and winter months, note that a lot of the companies don’t restock their shorts in sizes and colors until spring, when summer shopping starts. You may see a lot of sizes and colors out of stock, but you can get GREAT discounts and sales.

With all of that said, let’s jump right in to see the best travel shorts for men this year.

Public Rec Dealmaker Shorts

The Public Rec Dealmaker Shorts are an excellent choice for travel shorts, coming from the thoughtful folks at Public Rec . I’m so happy with the way they fit, with the color options and how comfy they are. The moment I put them on, I thought that these may be my #1 new favorite shorts for the year.

mens zip travel case

The shorts have a good balance between being casual and presentable, with the option to walk around all day in them and feel comfortable.

In terms of materials, they are made from 100% polyester. This makes them super easy to wash again and again.

mens zip travel case

They have belt loops, which are good if you need a belt, or if you want to dress them up with a belt. There’s a hidden side zipper pocket, which is useful for stashing away something small and valuable.

mens zip travel case

They fit very true to size, like the website says. I wear a size 32 width, and I wouldn’t size up or down at all. In terms of the length, they don’t feel especially too short or long, so they’re flattering from the start.

I have nothing bad to say about the Dealmaker Shorts and hope to wear them for years to come both when traveling and when home.

Stay minimal and comfortable with the Public Rec Dealmaker Shorts, a versatile piece for any occasion.

Bluffworks Ascender Shorts

I started wearing the Bluffworks Ascender Shorts in 2019 and until recently, I barely wore any other pair of shorts. These shorts are a truly fantastic option for someone looking for a great pair of travel shorts. They have come on every summer and early fall trip of ours since I can remember.

mens zip travel case

Bluffworks has been one of my go-to brands for travel since 2016. I have a lot of their products and everything I own is durable, high quality and built to last. Having a suit from Bluffworks taught me that you really can pack a suit for a trip and it won’t wrinkle.

The Ascender Shorts are 100% polyester, making them simple to wash. I always hang them dry rather than put them in the dryer. They look fantastic and crisp, wear after wear.

They have tons of pockets, much like most Bluffworks products for men (and women). There’s a back phone pocket, which I don’t use too often, but it’s good for a passport or anything that shape that you might need to keep out of your front or back pockets temporarily for security.

mens zip travel case

They’re lightweight and packable. They feel like they have more structure on the outside. They’re made from Bluffworks’s signature Ascender fabric, so if they feel like they could also be pants, it’s because they are the “shorts version” of the best-selling Ascender Chino pants for men.

These shorts really are wrinkle-resistant, but not immune to wrinkles. My photos above might show an extreme case of wrinkles because I had them rolled up in a ball before I took the photos. Oops! I took photos on another day, which you can see here.

mens zip travel case

Regarding the size on these: they fit true to size, which is also something I’ve lucked out with in wearing Bluffworks apparel for travel. After several years, they’ve held up great, aside from the color fading ever so slightly. They don’t show too many signs of heavy wear, even after wearing them through so many countries and cities, from NYC to Puerto Rico to Mexico.

Check out the shorts you'll want to live in all summer and during trips.

Western Rise Boundless Short

Note: They are currently unavailable and the stock date is TBD, but they will be coming back for sale!

The Western Rise Boundless Shorts have been my favorite shorts to wear around the house and around my neighborhood on the weekends. They’re super cozy and surprisingly durable. I like taking them on a trip when I want a travel short that has an athletic feel. If you’re not familiar with Western Rise, check out this page where I talk all about the brand as well as our travel interview with Western Rise’s Co-Founder Kelly .

With the rest of the options on this list, I’d say that the Boundless Shorts are slightly less casual than some other options, and they’re more “athletic.” I think the photos on Western Rise’s website make the shorts seem more passable as regular shorts.

mens zip travel case

They have a substantially thick waistband, which you don’t notice if your shirt is not tucked in. After a lot of wears, the band still has plenty of tension and it hasn’t worn out even a little bit.

Some shorts that tend to favor the athletic side only come in small, medium, large and x-large. What’s unique about the Boundless Shorts is that you can get really granular with your sizing and pick the exact size that works for you from all the waist sizes, 28 to 40.

You can apparently take these shorts with you in the pool or ocean, which I have yet to do on a trip!

I can say that after these shorts come out of the washer, they don’t feel especially wet. Instead of putting them in the dryer, I always hang them dry. The large waistband will be the last to dry. Keep that in mind if you plan to take a quick dip and then go on with your day.

The zippered pockets might come in handy if you take a hotel room key or something else waterproof with you in the water during your trip.

Western Rise Evolution Short

The Evolution Shorts from Western Rise are a casual and laid-back answer to travel shorts that are ready for anything. Basically, they’re a modern pair of travel bottoms for warm weather that look decent whether you’re flying, taking a road trip with stops, hitting some nightlife at night in your destination or going to the beach for a day.

Like the Boundless Shorts (above), they come in a range of numerical waist sizes, from 28 to 40. Western Rise designed these shorts to be the only shorts you’d need on a trip, if you have a variety of uses (everything except swimming and working out, basically). If you plan to go to the hotel gym or go for a run while on vacation, I suggest checking out one of the more athletic-style pairs of travel shorts I continue to suggest below.

As for stretch, the Evolution Shorts have a four-way stretch, which is one of my favorite features of any travel shorts. Second, the pockets have a few good aspects to note: the interior pockets have mesh drainage, in case you get caught in some rain, and there’s a zippered wallet-style pocket for protecting against theft.

You could wear the Evolution Shorts with a polo, a wrinkle-free button-down shirt or a simple T-shirt to look great while on the go.

Transform your summer wardrobe with the Western Rise Evolution Short, offering a perfect balance between comfort and style.

DUER No Sweat Short

As you may have seen within our other gear reviews , I’m a huge fan of DUER products. The DUER Performance Denim jeans are one of my favorite pair of pants, and I tried the Fireside jeans for winter travel! I wear my Performance Denim almost every day, actually. DUER does make a pair of the Performance Denim shorts as well.

I’m here to talk about DUER’s No Sweat Shorts . There are a few things that I like about these shorts, which make the list as some of the best travel-worthy shorts for guys. First, superficially, the No Sweat Shorts come in a lot of colors, from the really nice “Wood Smoke” to the fresh “Stone Blue,” and I appreciate this because I’m not a huge fan of classic blue jean shorts.

Second, the signature gusset in the No Sweat Shorts is what originally turned me onto DUER pants. I like how the durability of my Performance Denim jeans are carried over to the shorts. I’ve gone on hikes, slept on night buses and took long walks through cities in my DUER jeans. Through those various adventures, the gusset has held up and has provided a super comfortable fit.

I tend to see exactly how helpful the gusset is when I bend down to pick up my phone or some luggage, and the two sides of the pants or shorts feel reinforced. With the same gusset in the No Sweat Shorts, they’ll last for years upon years. (Also, they come in a women’s version, which is great for a woman in your life! See it at Becca’s list of the best travel shorts for women .)

Grab a pair of these handy shorts for your next trip.

Free Fly Men’s Tradewind Shorts

The Free Fly Men’s Tradewind Shorts are awesome if you’re on a trip to a humid place, or if you’ll be on the water a lot (think boating, fishing or hanging at a lake). They’re also great for looking decent and put-together while playing golf or dining out during travel.

Thanks to a lightweight blend of cotton and polyester with 8% Spandex and DWR (which repels moisture), these shorts are soft and feel like chinos, with great UPF 50+ sun protection. If you’re intrigued by the Free Fly brand , I recommend checking out all the products for men , which are meant for empowering life outdoors.

These relaxed chino shorts are perfect for humid destinations or being on the water.

Swrve TRANSVERSE Trouser Shorts

I think what’s attractive about the TRANSVERSE shorts from Swrve is that they’re a decent-looking pair of shorts you’d wear day to day while traveling, but they are completely geared toward being active in a flash.

mens zip travel case

With the reinforced gusset at the inseam, water-resistant four-way stretch fabric and a rear zippered pocket, you could be out mountain biking in these as soon as you were done with lunch. Swrve built these for men who value comfort, as the low waist in the front was built to avoid digging into your middle, while the higher waistband in the back should cover your rear when you bend down.

The TRANSVERSE shorts are built for adventure and have a modest 9” inseam. They come in sizes 28 to 38. Keep in mind that these shorts are not necessarily meant to be lightweight, so if you’re seeking something weightless, check out the other options above for your desired travel uses.

mens zip travel case

I have a pair of these and you should know that the sizing is a little different than most shorts. Measure your existing favorite pair of shorts to see what the waist measures. That number is your size of Swrve.

For example, even though my Public Rec Dealmaker Shorts are a 32, the waist measures 33. I ordered a 33 for the TRANSVERSE Trouser Shorts and they fit great.

I could have gone a little bigger because the pockets fit a little on the snug side. My waist size usually fluctuates about a half size during the spring and summer months because I am generally more active in those months.

Move with ease in the Swrve TRANSVERSE Trouser Shorts, designed for flexibility and durability.

Mission Workshop STAHL : LT

The Mission STAHL : LT shorts are made of really unique fabric. They’re pretty stiff, but stretchy and forgiving at the same time. I’d say these are a specialty pair of shorts, as the material is a military-spec textile.

mens zip travel case

The 10” inseam is typically long for most men, so this is an aspect of them you have to be interested in and ready for. I’d say these shorts work best for men with long legs, or tall guys. In fact, they’re perfect for tall guys who find a traditional 7’’ inseam to be much too short.

There are a ton of pockets (well, six of them), which makes the Stahl LT shorts ideal as general utility shorts that will do you well during a trip.

mens zip travel case

They’re water resistant because of the outer coating, which is a special coating on the fabric.

They’re lightweight and feel very high-quality, which is reflected in the price (note that they are made in New York, not abroad).

Experience the durability and functionality of the Mission Workshop STAHL : LT, designed to withstand any adventure.

Myles Everyday Short

If you’re looking for a pair of travel shorts that comes in 14 (yes, you read that right!) colors, check out the Myles Everyday Short . They’re a minimalist and cool pair of shorts with a drawstring waistband and four-way stretch you’ll definitely enjoy. I’d say I like the Dark Oak and Fog colors best.

A unique feature of ordering them to get your size is being able to pick the inseam length (6 in., 8 in., 10 in.) in addition to your waist size (sized in Small through XL). These might be good for petite guys, or guys who are tall and find that travel shorts tend to hit too high on the thigh.

These also have mesh front pockets to hold your stuff, and a water-repellent finish on top of the ultra-soft weave. They come at an affordable price, and the enthusiastic five-star reviews could probably speak for themselves.

Stay cool and comfortable with the Myles Everyday Short, designed for active men who value style and comfort.

Public Rec Flex Short

Public Rec is one of my favorite brands for travel apparel, and most of their products are winners in my mind. The Public Rec Flex Shorts are kind of an interesting item: they have an athletic look at first glance, but if you were to hide the waistband, you could dress them up a tad.

One helpful aspect of the ordering experience is that you get to choose a customizable waist size for these. Pair your waist size (28 to 44) with a desired inseam, with three choices from 5.5 inches to 9.5 inches, depending on your height and how you like your shorts to look.

You also get a choice of having them as “unlined” or “lined.” You don’t need to wear underwear with the lined version (shhh!). Lined shorts are good to double as a baiting suit, so that makes the Flex Shorts pretty versatile.

Overall, they’re great for lounging while on vacation, or maybe you can wear them at home so that you feel like you’re on vacation . They serve a dual purpose for travel, because they can be a bathing suit, workout shorts or shorts to hang around in and be comfy in.

Stay flexible and cool with the Public Rec Flex Short, a staple for any active wardrobe.

prAna Stretch Zion Short II

prAna is a cool company that makes men’s and women’s basics in a lot of great colors and styles. They also focus on sustainability. Their Stretch Zion Short II is a nice mainstay of their men’s shorts collection, and it’s made from the proprietary ReZion fabric, which is a recycled nylon blend stretch performance fabric. They have a unique waist adjustment buckle and strap that you can show off if you have your shirt tucked in.

The Stretch Zion Short II is one of the few shorts that offers all the way up to a 12” inseam. This means they could be great for tall guys, or just men who have long legs and find that other shorts sit too high on the thigh. If you prefer shorts that hit your knees, explore the different inseams lengths available on these shorts.

My personal preference would be an 8-inch inseam, and that can even be a little to long for me when I look for a flattering shorts fit.

These Zion shorts are called “Short II” because they’re the second “iteration” of the Zion Short I, based on customer feedback. For travel, the thoughtful design that optimizes performance, breathability, moisture-wicking technology and comfort will be helpful on any summer trip.

Experience nature with the prAna Stretch Zion Short II, designed for flexibility and durability.

prAna Brion Short II

Coming again from prAna, the Brion Short II is the second iteration of the Brion Shorts, based on previous customer feedback. It’s a casual type of short, and more traditional than the prAna Zion shorts, best worn with a T-shirt or button-down during a trip.

These shorts come in two inseam lengths for men: 9” and 11”. Like the Zion shorts, tall men and men who enjoy the look of shorts hitting the knee will benefit with these options. There’s a significant difference in these two lengths in terms of how they look.

The Brion Short II is made with the same fabric as the Stretch Zion (ReZion), meaning you get UPF 50+ material that is abrasion-resistant and moisture-wicking. These are all ideal qualities for a trip when you’re walking in the sun sightseeing, or sitting outside at a bar with a cocktail on a rooftop.

Embrace the outdoors with the prAna Brion Short II, designed for maximum flexibility.

Patagonia Baggies Shorts in 5”

Maybe you’re laughing at the name of these highly-recommended shorts from Patagonia. The versatility of these shorts is no joke, though: they’re good for all-weather running, they can double as a quick bathing suit when you left yours at home, they’re nice for the general “active travel” category like easy hiking and they’re excellent “all-around versatile shorts if you don’t need to dress up.”

The lightweight factor of these shorts is probably what sets them apart. Made from recycled 100% nylon, they give off a retro 80s feel, and with the 5” inseam, be ready to show off those legs you’ve worked for all year at the gym!

The Men’s Baggies Shorts come in lots of fun colors (15 of them!) and a variety of sizes from men’s XS to men’s XXL, which is kind of rare to see from retailers. The mesh liner lends itself to the design that lets you go in and out of water without needing boxers.

They also come in a 7” inseam option.

Experience the freedom of movement with Patagonia Baggies Shorts in 5”, perfect for beach days, hikes, or lounging at home.

REI Co-op Trailmade Amphib shorts

Just like the name, the REI Trailmade Amphib shorts will almost let you turn into a frog if you plan to spend a trip on wet hikes or in and out of the ocean on a day to day. These active shorts for travel are pretty affordable, not crossing the $50 threshold, and if you’re lucky, you can find several colors on sale for $10 less at any given time.

There’s a built-in adjustable waistband that not only looks cool, but helps if you want to tighten them before wading through water while trekking, or simply hopping in a hotel pool. The material is resistant to snags and tears, which is good for more adventurous hikes and bouldering.

The main benefit of the Amphib shorts is that they’re a solid choice for being in and out of water, and not having to change clothes. The blend of 89% nylon and 11% polyester lets them dry exceptionally quickly, meaning that they may even be dry before your flight home.

Stay active and comfortable in the REI Co-op Trailmade Amphib shorts, perfect for any outdoor activity.

Cotopaxi Brinco Short - 5”

We’re big fans of Cotopaxi as a brand. They stand for quality and sustainability, and their products are really well-respected in the travel space.

The Brinco Short is a great everyday shorts, and they’re pretty “attractive” as far as activewear for travel tends to go. In warmer months, you can wear these shorts from the moment you wake up, through going on a flight and arriving at your destination.

They have a fun “signature Cotopaxi” bold back pocket with a snap, and slit pockets on the sides. Also, don’t be mistaken: these shorts have a 5” inseam, which is too short for my preferences, but I know plenty of guys who want to be wearing a 5” inseam pair of shorts all day.

This pick on travel shorts is for you, if this is your style. (Note from me: they also come in a new 7” inseam version .)

For sustainability, they’re made from a recycled nylon blend. And lastly, they have a mesh brief lining, which makes them kind of look and feel like casual swim trunks that are not actually swim trunks.

Bold everyday travel shorts with a 5 inch inseam, a snap back pocket and a ready for anything look.

Vuori Ripstop Short

Vuori is known for their athletic-first clothing lines and the company is a climate-neutral certified brand. You can expect high-quality clothing from Vuori, and have peace of mind that your items were made in a sustainable way.

The Ripstop shorts from Vuori caught my attention because they are made from 98% organic cotton and 2% elastane. From my experience, even a little amount of elastane goes a long way in making shorts and pants avoid feeling stiff. I’m also glad to see that Vuori is promoting a range of sizes for men, from XS to XXL, with these shorts.

These are really nice-looking casual shorts that will make you feel great through out the day. Cotton isn’t necessarily the best material for unlimited use, but if you have access to a washing machine during your trip, or the space to be packing several different outfit options, that shouldn’t be a problem.

I tend to under-pack and not bring enough options with me. And because of that, my travel outfits sometimes feel limited, or I have to wash items in the sink! I realize that not everyone is like that, and you may want a pair of high-quality comfy shorts to wear a few times — not five times during your trip.

When you’re not traveling, these shorts are going to be a perfect summer weekend option.

Stay active in the Vuori Ripstop Short, combining durable material with optimal mobility.

lululemon Commission Classic-Fit Short 7” Warpstreme

We like lululemon for their thoughtful range of products that make you feel good while working out, as well as wearing their products for loungewear. The men’s Commission Classic-Fit Shorts are a minimalist and simple choice for shorts made from the company’s signature “Warpstreme” fabric, which has four-way stretch, sweat-wicking, wrinkle-resistant and quick-drying capabilities.

They are sturdy shorts made in the chino style that will look good for a wide variety of occasions. I’d be very happy to dress these up with a button-down if going out to eat, or wearing them with a graphic tee while on the go.

As for beneficial travel features, they have a secure and hidden (!) zipper pocket where you can quickly stash valuables like a credit card, room key or collection of spare change. The back pockets have snap closures.

Keep it casual and stylish with the lululemon Commission Classic-Fit Short 7” Warpstreme, a summer staple.

How I made this list

I did a lot of research to determine some of the better brands out there that are making great travel shorts. When I first searched around, I found a lot of the same products circulating on other lists that I found online!

I wanted to wait until I had personal experience in really trying out several different pairs of shorts before forming an opinion on any.

Below, I have some criteria that went into making my list.

Your shorts should be comfortable, especially if you bring them when you travel and wear them multiple times.

In my criteria and in my testing, shorts still need to be comfortable, to endure long flights or sitting for long periods of time (like on a train or in the car).

While I do love my trusty Levi’s 511 Cutoff shorts, they are not comfortable for being in one place for a long time. My wife Becca and I often travel for extended periods of time, and I often make the mistake of bringing these shorts to wear on a plane, train or car ride. They don’t do too well because they’re kind of stiff and thick. Oopsies.

Comfort also means something different for men with varying body types. Sure, material can lend itself to being stretchy or soft; however, some shorts will fit better for certain people.

I have more of an athletic build. My waist size doesn’t always match up to some dimensions of leg sizes. For example, a pair of shorts might fit perfectly in the quads, but will barely fit around my waist, or vice versa.

So, finding shorts that fit me and are comfortable is subjective to my body type.

Functionality and features

For my list of the best travel shorts for men, I looked for shorts that had a combination of these features below. The perfect pair of shorts doesn’t necessarily have to have every box checked. But, if they enable the feature, they should do it well!

Zipper pockets

For travel shorts, zipper pockets are sort of a must, if you’re traveling to Europe, South/Central America or really any place where pickpockets are known to lurk (like Barcelona or Colombia ). Good zipper pockets make it a little harder for someone to snoop in your pockets and easily grab your wallet or phone.

I note this because I’ve had friends who’ve gotten their phones stolen out of their back pockets in a snap, in both Spain and in some cities in Latin America.

Even for everyday life, zipper pockets are pretty useful in having peace of mind that something important won’t fall out of your pockets! Plus, you can impress your friends with them

Hidden pockets

Hidden pockets are a nice touch in travel shorts, for keeping your items safe. Similar to how zipper pockets protect your valuables, hidden pockets make it harder to figure out where your valuables are .

Some hidden pockets also double as zipper pockets.

The drawback of hidden pockets is that they can be in non-standard places for pockets. I have one in a pair of my shorts, and having my wallet in a hidden pockets feels a little clunky. I usually stash away something like a piece of paper or a single coin. Anything larger feels like a nuisance.

Belt loops vs drawstring

Some travel shorts try to impress you by having drawstrings. For athletic shorts, that makes sense. You wouldn’t wear a belt when you go running, for example. If your shorts are a little more on the “business beach casual” side (like maybe khaki-colored shorts with a button-up shirt), having a drawstring show up in your outfit might be a turn-off.

Some shorts offer this feature as a way to not need a belt.

This might be appealing to you, but I haven’t been sold on the feature, yet! Additionally, when you wash drawstrings, it’s really easy for them to wrap around the washing machine, or get stuck inside the waistband.

But, if you’re looking for a great belt to use for shorts that do have belt loops, I’ve been enjoying my Arcade belt a lot and I recommend it. You can check it out on Amazon or on Arcade directly.

Activity, like hiking, running or other things

When you’re looking for shorts, there’s not really a single pair that will cover you in all circumstances. The shorts that you want to have to look casual and feel comfortable probably aren’t the shorts that you might wear to the gym and to go swimming.

But, the shorts that you wear out to a nice and casual dinner might be the same shorts that you can take on a hike. It took me a few years to figure this out!

In another way, the shorts that you bring to the beach can also be used for running.

I try and group together my activities and try to plan which types of shorts make the most sense for those occasions.

The benefit of (most) travel shorts is that you can often wash them overnight, and they’ll dry by the time you need them in the morning. The reason is because most travel shorts are made from quick-drying material.

I once forgot running shorts, but luckily had a pair of nylon shorts that I used for a workout in Mexico City . I washed these shorts a few times and they were always dry the morning after. I did point a fan toward them for helping them to dry off, so I knew they would be really dry!

This isn’t a huge factor for me, but it’s nice that it’s a feature of clothing if you’re conscious about being protected from the sun. For travel shorts, if you’re outside all day with no shade, this holds a high amount of value to help keep you safe from the harmful rays of the sun.

UPF is the clothing equivalent to SPF, if you haven’t heard of it (and I only learned about it recently). It’s fairly standard for most of the shorts on the list to have a UPF rating of 50. It isn’t called out so much, so if it’s a deal-breaker, I’d encourage you to look at the product descriptions after clicking through to each product.

Materials are pretty important and are something to look out for when picking your final pair of shorts. When you look for shorts that are branded as travel shorts, you can almost expect that the material will be pretty stretchy, durable and will be made from something really fancy. Let’s take a look at what you can expect.

Quick-drying

A lot of materials are branded to be quick-drying. Pretty much anything except denim or think cotton is quick-drying, in my opinion.

What you want to look out for is any materials with double fabric or reinforced stitches. Those variants probably won’t dry as quickly, because they have more material to dry. It’s like when you stack T-shirts, the top one probably will dry first. The last part to dry will be where they are touching.

Quick-drying material might mean a slightly less durable pair of shorts. Keep that in mind when doing your search.

Breathability

Depending on the climate you’re going to be in, breathability may or may not be important to you. Sitting on a long flight and immediately going to India where it’s going to be 150 degrees. You might want the most breathable shorts possible. Or, skip the shorts all together!

If you’re spending time in moderate temperatures like the mid 70s on your trip, breathability might not be as important to you.

Similar to quick-drying, breathable shorts might sacrifice durability.

Stretchiness

Stretchiness used to be limited to spandex. There have been a lot of really cool products to hit the market that integrate spandex-like material into denim and make them extremely lightweight, comfortable and durable.

For me, if shorts are stiff and don’t have any flexibility, they don’t make good travel shorts. You’re one lunge or squat away from splitting your pants, and I’ve split quite a few.

Stain and water resistance

Dockers stain defenders was the first pair of pants I remember seeing that had this feature. The commercials implied that you could spill anything on them and they never stained.

Now, lots of other brands have this type of material and fabric technology.

The Dockers brand was targeting people going to work or people who never wanted to wear khakis. The shorts that you’ll find on this list aren’t only for dressing business casual, though. Stain and water resistant shorts are great for getting stuck in the rain, wearing multiple times or not showing that they’re actually pretty dirty.

And it’s implied that because water and potential spills bead right off, they’re fairly quick to dry as well.

Smell resistance

Because “travel shorts” by definition usually means that you’ll wear them a few times, you don’t want them to smell bad after their first wear. Most travel shorts aren’t made from material that hold smells. It’s called “odor control” by most brands.

Something to look out for is that if your shorts do get wet, allow them to dry. Because, even the most advanced material will probably smell if it has been damp for a day or two.

I wouldn’t roll up your wet clothes in a ball. Try to lay them out in a sunny or warm area. That should help!

Travel + Leisure / Tamara Staples

There are a few things every traveler needs, no matter where in the world they're going — and a toiletry bag is one of them. The humble case might be an afterthought to some, but these helpful bags are crucial to keeping your travel essentials organized.

We tested 58 toiletry bags and cosmetic cases (and will continue to test them for a period of at least six months) in order to bring to you the best of the best, evaluating their capacity, design, portability, and value. We also considered the overall quality of the bags, as well as their ease of use on real trips.

Taking our test results into consideration, we've put together a list of the best toiletry bags across various categories; you’re sure to find one that suits your needs.

Best Overall

Away large toiletry bag.

This bag holds more than you'd expect from just looking at it.

The limited edition colors often sell out fast.

You might be most familiar with Away for its selection of hardside luggage and weekender bags, but the brand carries travel accessories, too, including this large toiletry bag that earned high marks across the board during our tests.

Though we found the bag to be even roomier than expected, there are so many individual compartments including a clear cosmetic bag, a zippered pouch, two mesh linings, and an exterior pocket, to name a few. You won't be reaching into a bottomless pit, rummaging around for individual products here. We also love that the bag zips open wide enough for you to reach inside with ease. We packed it with both large and small items, from travel-size liquid bottles to makeup brushes, and there was still room for more.

We also noted the durability of the water-resistant nylon, which is lightweight without feeling cheap. The interior of the bag is coated with an easy-to-wipe material, allowing you to clean up any spills quickly. The bag comes in five color options (with limited edition colorways offered on occasion), as well as a smaller size option and a hanging version of the bag.

Most Packable

Aer travel kit 2.

Not only is it packable, but you can hang it up to save counter space at your destination.

Its more petite size means that it's not ideal for full-size toiletries.

Hello, carry-on-only travelers! This toiletry bag by Aer offers the best of both worlds: it's compact enough to stash in your carry-on or personal item, but it's spacious enough to hold all your toiletries. During our tests, we were able to fit hairspray, dry shampoo, conditioner, lotions, deodorant, a small electric toothbrush, toothpaste, perfume, toner, and medications in this bag. Of course, being that this bag is so compact, they were all travel-size products , not full-size ones.

We also loved that this toiletry kit has a hook that you can twist at different angles, making it easy to hang on doorknobs, towel racks, or bathroom bars to save counter space. And we appreciated the fact that it has several interior and exterior pockets for further organization.

The Details: 9 x 6.5 x 3 inches | 8 ounces | 2.5-liter capacity | Cordura ballistic nylon | Water-resistant

Best Waterproof

Line+arc the dopp kit.

This large bag fits just about everything, including large eyeshadow palettes.

It's a bit bulky — and fairly heavy when full.

You might be wondering why you need a waterproof toiletry bag, since it's usually tucked into a larger bag when you're traveling. The answer is simple: bathroom sinks. Toiletry bags often sit on wet surfaces, so it's not a bad idea to invest in a waterproof model like this one by Line+Arc. Though the bag has a loop for hanging, we felt comfortable leaving it on the sink due to its waterproofing, which we found to be particularly effective.

Beyond its waterproof material, we were impressed by this toiletry bag's spaciousness — we could even fit an eyeshadow palette the size of a small book inside — and more specifically, for its wide-open mouth, which allowed us to access everything with ease. Of course, because it's so large, it did get a little bulky and heavy when we packed it full, so it might be best for checked or carry-on suitcases instead of smaller personal items or weekender bags.

The Details: 11 x 6.5 x 3.5 | 1.2 pounds | 3.5-liter capacity | Silicone | Waterproof

Peak design wash pouch.

The bag is lined with high-density foam for extra protection.

It would be nice if there were more colors to choose from.

When you have a large number of toiletries to bring with you on vacation, the best thing you can do is choose a toiletry bag that helps you keep everything organized. This is that bag! Though it appears small from the outside, the bag is so thoughtfully designed with organizational tools — we found that there's a pocket for just about everything. The main compartment is large enough to fit small bottles, while mesh pockets of various sizes line the walls, so you can tuck in your favorite tinted moisturizer , for example. There's also a separate pocket for your travel toothbrush , which keeps it nice and clean.

Other highlights include a wide opening to access each pocket easily and the ability to stand on its own thanks to the bag's layer of high-density foam that also helps protect the items inside. It also has a handy hanging hook if you'd prefer to keep some counter space clear.

The Details: 10.2 x 6 x 4.4 inches | 8.7 ounces | 2.5-liter capacity | 200D nylon canvas | Weatherproof

Best Dopp Kit

Beis the dopp kit in atlas pink.

It's extraordinarily spacious and capable of holding what three standard-size toiletry bags can carry.

You can only open one compartment at a time.

What’s a dopp kit, anyway? Though the term is used interchangeably with toiletry bag today, the dopp kit was originally devised by German leather maker Charles Doppelt and was popular with military personnel in the 20th century. It typically takes the silhouette seen here in this Béis bag: a large main compartment, sometimes with side pockets.

Béis' dopp kit, however, has an extra compartment beneath the main one (like the well-known Béis weekender bag ). On the plus side, we absolutely love having all this extra space. In our tests, we were able to fit the capacity of three standard toiletry bags into this one. So if you're an overpacker, this is the bag for you. Note that you can only open one compartment at a time, though — the top one needs to be closed if you open the bottom one, otherwise all your items will fall out. But a big pro to this setup is that it's a very sturdy dopp kit, and it stands alone with ease, thanks to its wide base.

Best for Men

Bagsmart toiletry bag for men.

It opens wide with a double zipper.

It's made of canvas, which may be hard to clean but is water-resistant.

Fun fact: dopp kits were originally designed for men so it makes perfect sense why this one is designed to fit shaving and grooming products in particular. It's made of canvas for a rough-and-tumble look, and it's offered in six colors (mostly neutrals, but also light pink) and two sizes. Though we consider it sturdy enough to stand on its own, we also found it flexible enough to stuff into a packed weekender.

As for storage capabilities, there's a main compartment that's accessible via a double zipper, which means the kit opens nice and wide for you to be able to access your items. That main compartment can fit bulkier items, while smaller items can fill the pockets along the sides. There are also two separate side pockets, one of which is designed to hold wet items.

The Details: 10.2 x 5.9 x 6.3 inches | 6.4 ounces | Canvas | Water-resistant

Best Hanging Bag

Sea to summit hanging toiletry bag.

Small and lightweight, it's perfectly portable.

It has to hang as it won't stand up on its own.

When it comes to hanging bags, this one is perfectly balanced. It's made from an ultrathin, water-resistant nylon and takes the shape of a saddlebag, which is ideal for hanging. We found that no matter how many items we stuffed in there, the bag never really felt weighed down; all the products were perfectly situated and easy to access, thanks to a plethora of pockets.

This bag also comes with a detachable mirror, which makes it great for outdoor adventures when you don't have access to a vanity, as well as handles for easy transport. Ultimately, it is perfect for people limited on space and weight, whether they're on a multiday trek that requires them to carry all their gear or traveling for an extended period of time with limited storage space. The toiletry bag comes in two sizes (we tested the smaller one) and three color options.

The Details: 9 x 6 x 3 inches (small); 10 x 9 x 4 inches (large) | 2.8 ounces (small); 4 ounces (large) | 3-liter capacity (small); 6-liter capacity (large) | Nylon | Water-resistant

Best Budget

Wandf toiletry bag.

It's the most affordable option on this list and comes in more than 20 colors.

The main compartment only has one zipper, which makes it a little tough to retrieve items.

As you're probably well aware by this point, toiletry bags can get quite expensive — but they don't have to be. This is a particularly budget-friendly model, yet it accomplishes just about everything you'd need a toiletry bag to do. For one, it has multiple compartments. And for another, it's a water-resistant case, which means it can handle being splashed on a bathroom counter.

The compartments are both the success and the downfall of this toiletry bag. We were beyond impressed with the amount of space inside the main compartment, as well as with the two side compartments with mesh pockets. But we found that the main compartment was almost too spacious and could benefit from another divider of some kind. Given its size, it could also benefit from a double zipper opening, which would allow you to access more items throughout the bag than the existing single zipper.

The Details: 10.24 x 4.72 x 5.91 inches | 3.53 ounces | Nylon | Water-resistant

Best Splurge

Tumi response travel kit.

It opens like a clamshell for easy access.

The outer material is not water-resistant.

Luxury brand Tumi doesn't only make high-end suitcases and travel bags — it also makes high-end toiletry bags. Made from ballistic nylon, this is one of the most durable toiletry bags out there, and it wouldn't be surprising if this bag lasted years, even with regular use.

Its best feature is the fact that it opens like a clamshell, with two distinct compartments in each half. That makes it easy to access everything in the bag, whether you're laying it flat on a countertop or you're hanging it via the attached hook. There are four pockets, including one water-resistant one, and two elastic loops to hold products like toothbrushes or razors. We think it’s a reasonably spacious bag, but only for travel-size products — that's why we'd recommend it for short trips rather than long ones.

The Details: 6.3 x 9.5 x 3.5 inches | 14.4 ounces | Ballistic nylon

Other Toiletry Bags We Liked

The following three toiletry bags didn’t quite make our main list but still offer some handy features that some travelers might find useful.

Briggs & Riley Baseline Executive Essentials Kit : This fairly large toiletry bag can hold plenty — we had more than enough room for travel-size hair and skin care products for a weeklong trip. But the lack of interior organization makes it difficult to keep things in place. It might be better suited for carrying fewer larger products instead of numerous smaller ones.

Travel + Leisure / Ella Crosby

Thule Subterra 2 Toiletry Bag : This toiletry bag's standout feature is a removable plastic interior pouch, which you can use to keep liquids separate (a plus for going through airport security and to prevent leaks!). It also has various pockets to keep your things organized.

Travel + Leisure / Elizabeth Rhodes

Bagsmart Large Hanging Toiletry Bag : This hanging toiletry bag has four separate compartments to keep your belongings organized — and it has the capacity to hold many belongings, too. But it's not a particularly protective or durable bag with its softside material, which could be a problem for transporting certain products.

We tested 58 toiletry bags and cosmetics cases in our lab and during real-world tests to determine the best products to travel with. Testing started with an analysis of each bag when it was empty; we examined the materials, the construction, and the overall design.

We packed each bag full with toiletries, makeup, and essentials, taking notes of the case’s capacity and organizational design features, such as compartments, pockets, hanging straps, and hooks. If the toiletry bag was advertised as waterproof, we held the bag under running water to see if anything inside got wet and how quickly the bag dried. We packed the toiletry bags into different types of travel bags to see how portable they felt, including weekenders , carry-ons, and checked luggage.

After our initial lab tests, we sent the toiletry bags home with editors to test for an additional six months on their real-world travels to gather further insights, including how durable they are.

Tips for Buying a Toiletry Bag

Look at the design of the bag.

Some toiletry bags are voids — they have one cavernous space to fit all your items. But others are separated into compartments with pockets and pouches to keep your items in place. Depending on what you're storing in your toiletry bag, you might prefer more organizational tools than a single open space. Some toiletry bags have additional features like built-in mirrors or removable pouches. Also consider the material: more durable, water-resistant materials are ideal for toiletry bags, since they'll be getting quite a bit of use on the road.

Consider capacity and the items you pack

What do you plan on putting in a toiletry bag? If you're a minimalist who carries very few toiletries — say, just face wash and toothpaste — you might only need a small case. But if you have an extensive skincare routine — including sunscreen and after-sun lotion — and you travel with all your makeup, you'll need a bag with enough space for everything.

Think about portability

If you plan on taking your toiletry bag in your carry-on, you'll want it to be as compact and lightweight as possible to save room for everything else in your bag. And if you're packing liquids, gels, or aerosols, make sure your items’ sizes comply with the TSA's 3-1-1 rule . If you're checking your toiletry bag, though, you might have more flexibility with size and weight.

Since toiletry bags frequently come into contact with liquids — either from leaking products or from the bathroom counter — water-resistant or waterproof materials are best. Another factor to consider is durability. Toiletry bags are typically fairly heavily used when you travel, so it's best to look for tear-proof fabric that will hold up over time.

A TSA-approved toiletry bag is one that meets the TSA's requirements for the 3-1-1 rule regarding liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes packed in carry-ons. These products must be 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters or less, and they all must fit in " 1 quart size, clear, plastic, zip top bag ."

You can pack just about anything in a toiletry bag, from heatless hair curlers to body washes to makeup. Depending on what you plan on putting in your toiletry bag, you may want to look for ones with special pockets — many toiletry bags have designated spots for items like makeup brushes or palettes to keep them secure.

History of Voronezh

Foundation of voronezh.

The first mention of Voronezh dates back to 1177 in connection with the battle of the Vladimir and Ryazan princes and the escape of Yaropolk of Ryazan to “Voronozh”. Some historians suggest, based on fragments of these chronicles, that Voronezh (Voronozh) existed as a settlement back in the 12th century. Other historians believe that the chronicle meant only the Voronezh River.

The second, very significant, mention of Voronezh in the chronicles refers to 1237, when the conquest of the Russian principalities by Khan Batu began during the Western campaign of the Mongols. The Russian princes decided to give the first battle to the enemies “and came out against them in Voronozh”, but were defeated. Again, the word “Voronozh” probably means the Voronezh River, not a settlement.

The Tsar’s decree on the foundation of Voronezh has not yet been found. The archive has an order of the boyar Nikita Yuriev from 1586 on the reorganization of the guard service on the southern outskirts of the Moscow state and on the construction of two fortified settlements: Livny and Voronezh. Thus, the official year of the foundation of Voronezh is 1586.

Located on the trade route at the confluence of the Voronezh River with the Don, Voronezh could not remain an exclusively military town for a long time. In 1615, its population was about 7 thousand people. From the middle of the 17th century, Russian and foreign ambassadors to the Ottoman Empire, the Crimean Khanate, and the Caucasus travelled through Voronezh. It became part of the Belgorod line - fortifications that protected the Russian state from the raids of the Crimean Tatars until the end of the 17th century.

More Historical Facts…

Voronezh - the cradle of the Russian navy

In 1695, during the first Azov campaign, Russian troops were unable to capture the fortress of Azov standing on the bank of the Don River, several kilometers from its confluence with the Sea of Azov. The siege was unsuccessful, as the Ottoman garrison in the fortress received support from the sea.

Therefore, Peter I decided to start building a fleet. Voronezh was chosen for this because of its strategic position on the Voronezh River flowing into the Don. Secondly, there were forests near the town that could be used as building materials. Thirdly, the residents of Voronezh had experience in the construction and use of river vessels.

In 1696, as a result of the second campaign, the Azov fortress was taken by Russian troops. The Russian fleet prevented the supply of people, ammunition and food to the fortress. From 1696 to 1711, about 215 ships were built in Voronezh, including the ship “Goto Predestinatsia” (The Providence of God) - the first Russian ship of the line.

In Voronezh, the organizational foundations for the subsequent construction of the Russian fleets in the Baltic and Black Seas were laid. The first Admiralty in Russia was also created here. However, the military shipyard in Voronezh did not exist for long due to the gradual shallowing of the rivers.

Voronezh in the 18th-19th centuries

In 1709, Voronezh became part of the Azov Governorate. In 1711, its center moved from Azov to Tambov, and in 1715 - to Voronezh. In 1725, after the death of the first Russian emperor, the region was renamed into the Voronezh Governorate. In 1745, the first educational institution was opened - the theological seminary (closed in 1918, reopened in 1993).

In 1748, Voronezh was badly damaged by fire. Almost the entire center, which was located on the bank of the river, burned down. After that, the center of Voronezh again began to be located in the place of today’s Universitetskaya Square.

In 1774, after another big fire, Catherine II approved the general plan for the regular development of Voronezh. In the second half of the 18th - the first half of the 19th centuries, Voronezh was one of the centers of the Russian cloth industry.

In 1781, the coat of arms of Voronezh was approved: “The shield is divided in two, in the upper part in a golden field - a two-headed black eagle, and in the lower part in a red field - an overturned jar, from which the Voronezh River flows”.

In 1863, according to the census of residents, Voronezh numbered 38,672 people (the 12th largest city in the Russian Empire). The first public library was opened in 1864. In 1868, Voronezh was connected by railway with Moscow, in 1871 - with Rostov-on-Don, in 1894 - with Kursk.

Voronezh in the first half of the 20th century

In 1913, the first secular higher educational institution in Voronezh was opened - the Agricultural Institute named after Peter the Great (Voronezh State Agrarian University named after Emperor Peter I). In 1914, the population of the city was 93,700 people. During the First World War, reserve military units were formed in Voronezh, defense enterprises from the western regions of the Russian Empire were evacuated here.

In 1928, Voronezh became the center of the Central Black Earth Oblast. And after its liquidation in 1934, it remained the center of Voronezh Oblast. On August 2, 1930, the first Soviet airborne assault was parachuted two kilometers from Voronezh. Today, August 2 is celebrated as the birthday of the Russian airborne forces.

In 1932, two large factories were built on the left bank - aviation and rubber. One of the most important industrial and scientific complexes in the USSR was formed in the city. Many types of aircraft produced in Voronezh began to enter the Red Air Force several years before the outbreak of World War II. In 1939, the population of Voronezh was 326,932 people.

In October-November 1941, during the Second World War, most of the large enterprises were evacuated to the east. From July 7, 1942 to January 25, 1943, the right-bank part of Voronezh, being under German occupation, suffered significant damage, about 18 thousand houses were destroyed (92% of all residential buildings). The active defense of Voronezh helped the Red Army to withstand and win in Stalingrad.

In November 1945, it was decided to prioritize the restoration of 15 oldest Russian cities, including Voronezh. In the late 1940s, the restoration of industrial enterprises was completed, by the mid-1950s - residential and public buildings. In 1956, the population of the city exceeded 400 thousand people.

Voronezh in the second half of the 20th century

In 1968, the first serial Soviet supersonic passenger aircraft Tu-144 was produced at the Voronezh Aviation Plant; in October 1977 - the first Soviet airbus (wide-body aircraft) Il-86. In 1972, the Voronezh reservoir was built, which became the largest in the region.

In 1983, about 6 km from the city limits, the construction of the Voronezh nuclear power plant for heat supply began. In 1990, under the influence of the Chernobyl disaster, it was suspended on the basis of a referendum held among Voronezh residents. The station, which was approximately 65% completed, was mothballed. In 2020, work began on its dismantling. In 1989, the population of Voronezh was about 887,000.

In the 1990s, in connection with the collapse of the USSR, the largest industrial enterprises of Voronezh were on the verge of bankruptcy due to a sharp decline in defense orders and the breakdown of existing economic ties. A lot of churches were returned to the Russian Orthodox Church; their restoration was carried out.

In the early and mid-1990s, agreements on twinning relations were concluded between Voronezh and the cities of Charlotte (USA), Chongqing (China) and Sliven (Bulgaria).

In 2008, Voronezh was awarded the title “City of Military Glory”. In 2009, a new Cathedral of the Annunciation, the third largest Orthodox church in Russia, was built to replace the destroyed one. On December 17, 2012, a millionth resident was born in the city, which made Voronezh the 15th city in Russia with a population of over 1 million.

Voronezh - Features

Initially, the city stood on the banks of the Voronezh River. In the 1970s, it was turned into a reservoir - one of the largest reservoirs in the world located entirely within the city. The Voronezh reservoir divides the city into two parts. Its center, cultural institutions, embankments, the best establishments, and the most prestigious districts are located on the right bank. On the left bank there are industrial enterprises, residential areas, and one beautiful park. The two banks are connected by three bridges: the longest of them is Severnyy Bridge (2 km long).

There are several versions of the origin of the name of the Voronezh River after which the city of Voronezh was named. Most likely it comes from the word “voron” (“raven”) or “voronoy” (black) reflecting the dark color of the water in the Voronezh River. The City Day of Voronezh is celebrated annually on the third Saturday of September.

Voronezh is located in a temperate zone. Winter is moderately frosty with a permanent snow cover that forms in December. Quite often there are thaws accompanied by rains (especially in December). Also there are often drops in temperature below minus 20 degrees Celsius, which can last up to a week or more.

Summer is warm, even hot (especially July and the first half of August), in some years - rainy, in some years - dry. Autumn is mild and rainy. The Voronezh reservoir is covered with ice in late November - early December. Spring ice drift lasts from March to April. The average temperature in January is minus 7.6 degrees Celsius, in July - plus 22.7 degrees Celsius.

Voronezh is the economic center of the Voronezh region and one of the largest economic centers in Russia. The leading sectors of the economy are food, chemical, radio-electronic industries, mechanical engineering and retail trade. The largest enterprises of Voronezh are Voronezh Joint-Stock Aircraft Building Company, Voronezh Mechanical Plant, Voronezh Ceramic Plant, Carriage Repair Plant named after V.I. Thalmann.

This city is a major transport hub, the transport system of which consists of air, rail and road transport systems. The Peter the Great Voronezh International Airport offers regular flights to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kaliningrad, Samara, Krasnodar, Novosibirsk, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don. Public transport is represented by mini-buses, buses and trolleybuses.

Voronezh is worth visiting not only for its interesting museums, beautiful parks and picturesque squares. Here you can also see funny monuments to animals - heroes of famous literary works, replicas of the first ships of the Russian navy, unusual buildings in the Art Nouveau and Gothic style of the late 19th-20th centuries.

There are a lot of traditional Russian churches, theaters, and former merchant mansions in Voronezh that catch the eye with their noble and elegant appearance. Also, tourists should pay attention to the monuments perpetuating the image of the heroes of the Second World War. The Voronezh Sea, a huge reservoir stretching for tens of kilometers, is of no less interest.

Main Attractions of Voronezh

Monument to White Bim Black Ear - one of the unofficial symbols of Voronezh; a dog sitting on a pavement and patiently waiting for the return of its owner. It is noteworthy that any of the exhibits can not only be touched and held in hands, but you can also play them. 9 Yanvarya Street, 108.
