A Reality Tour was David Bowie’s world tour in support of his Reality Tour, which visited Europe, North America, Asia, New Zealand and Australia in 2003 and 2004. His concerts at the Point Depot in Dublin on 22 and 23 November 2003 were filmed and recorded, and released on DVD in 2004 and on CD, vinyl and digital download in 2010.

The audio version contains several key differences from the film. Bowie’s cover version of Pixies’ ‘Cactus’ is longer in the audio edition, and more of his between-song banter is retained.

Moreover, a number of bonus tracks were included on the audio releases. The CD and vinyl versions added three songs to the end of the set, and the digital download – which went on sale two weeks after the physical edition – added two extra songs.

Bowie’s concert set list spanned his repertoire from 1970’s The Man Who Sold The World to the new millennium, with particular weight given to his newer releases Heathen and Reality . There were also outings for ‘Sister Midnight’ and ‘Under Pressure’ , Bowie’s collaborations with Iggy Pop and Queen respectively.

A Reality Tour was released on 25 January 2010 . It was not a great seller – its highest chart placing was in Belgium, where it peaked at number 18 on the Wallonia albums chart. It also reached the top 40 in Austria, Ireland, Portugal and Switzerland. In the UK it got to number 53, but in the US it peaked at 191 on the Billboard chart.

David Bowie Tour band 2003-2004 A Reality Tour A Reality Tour was a worldwide concert tour by David Bowie in support of the Reality album. The tour commenced on 7 October 2003 at the Forum Copenhagen, Denmark, continuing through Europe, North America, Asia, including a return to New Zealand and Australia for the first time since the 1987 Glass Spider Tour. Bowie retired from performing live in 2006, making this tour his last.

The tour grossed US$46 million, making it the ninth-highest-grossing tour of 2004.

History Bowie announced the tour in June 2003, intending to play to over a million people across 17 countries, and was billed as his first major tour since the Outside Tour of 1995. Bowie promoted this tour with appearances on primetime television shows such as The Tonight Show and on AOL Sessions. At over 110 shows, the tour was the longest tour of Bowie’s career. Performance Bowie sought to perform in the format of a stadium concert with less focus on elaborate staging and more focus on the musicians in his band. The stage featured a number of platforms, some extending into the audience, as well as multiple video-screens projecting artistic images and live footage of the concert along with many colored lights for effects. The stage was typically placed at one end of the stadium or arena with seating in the stands or on the field itself with a back-stage area on the far side of the stage. The musicians were dressed in casual but colorful outfits; nearly each musician had a set of outfits in different colors, such as Bowie’s cut-off shirt and neckerchief or Gail Ann Dorsey’s dress. Musicians were free to move about the stage as their instruments permitted with wireless amplification, though Bowie and Dorsey interacted most often as part of the acts. Each concert began with an introduction on the main video-screen, during which the band would enter the stage and prepare the opening number. After the opener, Bowie would greet the audience with the flexible line, “Hello, [city name], you crazy bunch of motherfuckers” as a sign of welcoming. The performances, between the somewhat staged pieces, were informal often with a dialog between Bowie and his audience, jokes, band introductions, and the occasional “Happy Birthday To You”. Repertoire The set list included tracks spanning Bowie’s 30 plus years in the music business, from The Man Who Sold the World (1970) all the way to Reality (2003), along with collaborations such as Sister Midnight (with Iggy Pop) and “Under Pressure” (with Queen), and snippets and teasers of Bowie classics such as “Space Oddity” and “Golden Years”. There is a bit more focus, however, on tracks from the albums released since the Earthling World Tour in 1997, Heathen (2002), and Reality. The only exception from his latest albums is ‘hours…’ (1999); no tracks from this album were included, possibly due to poor reception of the album. Other albums with no appearance included Space Oddity (1969), the cover album Pin Ups (1973), the ill-received Never Let Me Down (1987), the albums produced with the band Tin Machine, and Black Tie White Noise (1993). A notable inclusion into the tour were the tracks from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, usually performed as the final encores. “Ziggy Stardust” was nearly always the finale of each concert. The inclusion of tracks from Let’s Dance and Tonight was also notable, considering a fan tendency to reject the albums as “too commercial”, seeing the return of the singles “Modern Love”, “Blue Jean”, “Lets Dance,” “China Girl”, and a semi-acoustic version of “Loving the Alien”. Overall, the band had rehearsed around 60 songs for the tour. Tour inciden Originally scheduled to play in 24 countries over a ten-month period, the tour was curtailed after the Hurricane Festival performance in Scheeßel, Germany on 25 June 2004, as a result of Bowie being diagnosed with an acutely blocked artery that required an angioplasty procedure.The previous performance at the T-Mobile Arena, Prague, Czech Republic on 23 June 2004 had been interrupted as Bowie was forced to leave the stage believing he was suffering from a trapped nerve in his left shoulder. A previous incident in Oslo on 18 June 2004 saw Bowie being struck in the left eye with a lollipop thrown by a member of the audience. On 6 May 2004, a performance at the James L. Knight Center, Miami, FL was cancelled after a lighting technician fell to his death prior to Bowie going onstage.

This is a stunning piece of history featuring full colour photos and is in mint condition and includes the original concert ticket for the Brisbane Entertainment Centre Australia for the night of Tuesday 17th Feb 2004.

THE TOUR "David Bowie: A Reality Tour" was a concert tour undertaken by the legendary British musician and performer, David Bowie. The tour took place in 2003 and 2004 in support of his album "Reality," which was released in 2003.

The "A Reality Tour" began on October 7, 2003, in Copenhagen, Denmark, and concluded on July 25, 2004, in Mountain View, California, United States. The tour covered several countries and continents, including Europe, North America, Asia, and Oceania, making it a comprehensive and extensive world tour. At over 110 shows, the tour was the longest tour of Bowie's career. A heart attack in late June 2004 forced the cancellation of some dates near the end of the tour. Bowie retired from performing live in 2006, making this tour his last.

David Bowie to Tour

After spending much of the fall touring Europe, David Bowie will bring his new album, Reality , to North American stages starting December 6th in Atlantic City.

A Reality Tour is Bowie’s first full world tour in seven years (he performed as part of Moby’s Area2 tour and played select dates behind Heathen last year), and it is currently scheduled to visit twenty North American cities, though additional dates are expected. Bowie and his band — guitarists Earl Slick and Gerry Leonard, bassist/singer Gail Ann Dorsey, keyboardists Mike Garson and Catherine Russell, and drummer Sterling Campbell — have worked up a batch of fifty songs from throughout his career, and plan to offer varied set lists. Macy Gray will open all dates.

Following his North American itinerary, Bowie plans to take the show to Australia and the Far East. By the tour’s end, he will have performed in seventeen countries.

The two David Bowie concerts in 2004 were no exercise in nostalgia - on the first night, Bowie debuted 'Fantastic Voyage', 'I've Been Waiting for You' and '5:15 Angels Have Gone' for the very first time on Australasian soil.

Hundreds of fans also waited outside for Bowie. Whilst doing so, they all sang along to his 1969 hit 'Space Oddity' remarkably well and DB himself came out himself to witness.

In Sydney, a Bowie fan named Jen that had traveled over from the US managed to get something signed ----> her back. She had this made into a tattoo!

While leaving the Sydney Entertainment Centre, I couldn't help but notice an arrangement of photos in the front foyer: Bowie - in his Glass Spider guise - sitting right next to his evil nemesis Phil Collins.

In the local music press, a couple of Sydney clubs advertised themselves as hosting a Bowie 'after party'. The first of these was a folly - and played completely unrelated music save for maybe 'Rapture' by Blondie. The second - a local goth club - at least played some Bowie ('Fashion' and 'Hallo Spaceboy' if I recall correctly).
