As expected, Beyoncé has announced a 2023 world tour on Instagram, supporting her multiple-Grammy-nominated 2022 album, “Renaissance.” She also released the dates and cities on her official website.

The timing of the announcement, which comes just days before the Grammy Awards on Sunday, sparks speculation that the singer may perform or at least appear on the show. Beyoncé is the most nominated artist for the awards with nine, all related to “ Renaissance .” Sources tell Variety that her husband Jay-Z will perform with DJ Khaled on the show, most likely their nominated song “God Did.”

Popular on Variety

Related stories, 2024 live music business is driving record revenues, but some data points raise concerns, 'flow,' animated feature oscar contender and annecy winner, lands fall release date (exclusive).

Beyoncé has said that “Renaissance” is a three-part project, so it’s possible that the next parts could be another album, a long-form video project or even the tour itself.

Beyoncé’s last full tour was the nearly six-month, 49-date “Formation” tour in 2016, which unusually featured no guest appearances until the final show, at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, where she brought out Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z.

She did, however, stage an epochal “Homecoming” headlining performance at the 2018 Coachella festival — which was postponed from 2017 due to the birth of her and Jay’s twins — for which she was accompanied by a full marching band in a nod to historically Black colleges and universities. That blockbuster performance was later released as the “Homecoming” album and — via a three-project deal with Netflix that sources tell Variety is worth $60 million — a feature-length documentary. It seems possible that a future “Renaissance” video project could be part of that deal as well.

Beyoncé announced her long-awaited tour for her seventh studio album " Renaissance " on Wednesday to kick off Black History Month . Demand for tickets skyrocketed so fast, the artist added second show dates seven cities: Toronto; Chicago; Washington D.C.; Atlanta; Houston; Inglewood, Calif. and East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The album, which debuted in July, is an ode to Black queer culture. Disco anthems, soulful ballads and sexy lyrics are packaged together in "Renaissance."

Beyoncé returned to the stage for first time in four years in January

Last month, Beyoncé made her return to the stage and performed at the opening of the Atlantis The Royal hotel in Dubai. Despite the luxury experience, the singer left fans wanting more, as she did not perform any songs from "Renaissance," The Hollywood Reporter reported.

The invitation-only event marked her first concert in more than four years. She last performed at the  Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 event in 2018.

Beyoncé dominates Grammy nominations

The singer's tour announcement comes days ahead of the Grammys where Beyoncé leads the 2023 lineup with nine nominations, including best dance/electronic album ("Renaissance"), best R&B performance ("Virgo’s Groove") and best traditional R&B performance ("Plastic Off the Sofa").

With 28 wins and 88 total career nominations, Beyoncé now ties her husband, rapper Jay-Z , for the most nominations in Grammy history. If Beyoncé picks up four or more awards this year, she will surpass the late Georg Solti for the most Grammy wins of all time. (The Hungarian-born conductor holds the record with 31.)

Beyoncé called out by Monica Lewinsky: over 'Partition' lyric after ableism controversy

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have got "to be the most intense power couple in the history of music," Recording Academy president Harvey Mason Jr. Mason said after the nominations were revealed. "That’s music and Grammy royalty – that’s the royal family."

Their combined 176 nominations are "absolutely a testament to their talent, to their level of excellence, to their work ethic, to their level of greatness over a long period of time. I don’t even know what the next (leading) couple would be, but it’s not anywhere close.”

Beyoncé's 'Break My Soul.' Taylor Swift's 'Anti-Hero.'  These are the 10 best songs of 2022, ranked.

Beyoncé noticeably was not nominated in any of the music video categories for the Grammys, having not released any album visuals for "Renaissance" since its debut.

Where can you get tickets?

Tickets for the North American leg of the tour will be available through Ticketmaster's Verified Fan program. Tickets will go on sale Monday, Feb 6, with an exclusive presale to BeyHive members, according to a Live Nation press release.

Verified Fan registration is now open. Once you register, you'll be placed in a lottery system that determines which fans get invited to purchase tickets. Registration alone doesn't guarantee tickets. If you're selected, you'll get an access code the day before tickets go on sale. Everyone else will be placed on a waitlist. According to Live Nation, this process is intended to help Ticketmaster weed out the resellers and verify your account so that actual fans get priority to buy tickets.

Citi cardmembers will have a special Citi Presale after the Verified Fan process. Get more details here . Verizon will also offer an exclusive presale through their customer loyalty program Verizon Up .

Will Beyoncé be using Ticketmaster like Taylor Swift to sell tickets?

Yes, but given what happened with Taylor Swift's Eras tour (and the fact it led to Congressional hearings about Ticketmaster ’s practices), it seems very likely both Beyoncé and Ticketmaster would want to avoid repeating that mess. That most likely explains the usage of the Verified Fan system.

Where will Beyoncé be playing?

The Renaissance World Tour will hit 40 cities in North America and across Europe. Stops include Paris, London, Amsterdam, Toronto, Chicago, East Rutherford, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Houston, and many more.

What has Beyoncé said about the Renaissance World Tour?

She just announced it was happening with a post on February 1. Her website didn't immediately contain any more details. But during the Wearable Art Gala in October 2022, she appeared to confirm it would start this summer, as a backstage tour with her mother Tina Lawson was up for auction at the event.

Will Beyoncé be performing at the Grammys (on February 5) and sharing more tour details there?

Not clear yet, but she is the most nominated artist at the ceremony . On January 21, Variety reported that “ talks with show producers are ongoing for a possible onstage appearance ” by Beyoncé.

What can we expect from the tour on stage?

Beyoncé hasn't shared that yet either, but given the artistry she put into her recent Dubai show , it's fair to say we can expect no less than excellence, elaborate costumes, and an incredible experience.

This post will be updated the moment more detail is released.

Barbra Streisand Predicts 'Our Society Will Flourish with a Smart, Experienced Woman' During…

See latest videos, charts and news

The announcement photo may look familiar to fans, as she donned the same glittery attire on the cover of her seventh studio album. Bey also added “Renaissance World Tour” on her Instagram bio, further accenting the news. Last week, Beyonce performed a full concert for the first time in four years at a luxury resort in Dubai in front of influencers and journalists. The 19-song set included a collaboration with her oldest daughter Blue Ivy as the two performed “Brown Skin Girl,” which earned them a Grammy two years ago for best music video.

Crowned a triumphant win by music lovers, Renaissance stormed to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last year and rattled off two Hot 100 top 10 hits, including her chart-topper “Break My Soul.” The dance-centric album also notched nine Grammy nominations, the most for any nominee for this year’s ceremony. Bey is looking to rack up more trophy wins, as she currently sits at a staggering 28 wins. Nominated for album of the year, song, and record of the year, Bey is facing some stout competition , especially in the former. The R&B juggernaut will tango against Adele, Harry Styles, Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny, and more for album of the year. A win in this category would serve as Beyonce’s first. The 65th Grammy Awards will occur Sunday night in Los Angeles at 8 pm EST.

Check out Beyonce’s Instagram post and 2023 Renaissance dates below.

Daily guide to 2023 world track and field championships.

  • OlympicTalk ,
  • OlympicTalk

A day-by-day look at the world track and field championships in Budapest ( broadcast schedule here ) ...

Day 1 | Sat., Aug. 19: Ryan Crouser can stand alone in shot put Crouser can become the first man to win four combined Olympic and world titles in the shot put. He is undefeated this season, has the world’s top eight throws in 2023 and in May upped his world record by more than seven inches. But Crouser has yet to hit the magic number taped to his bathroom mirror for the last two years — 23.77 meters — another 21 centimeters beyond his record.

Other finals: women’s 10,000m, mixed 4x400m relay, men’s 20km race walk

Day 2 | Sun., Aug. 20: World’s fastest man, best female athlete crowned An American won the men’s 100m at the last three world championships, or ever since the end of Usain Bolt’s reign. Another gold would mark the first time the U.S. wins four in a row. This year’s field is fairly open. Fred Kerley is the defending champion. Brit Zharnel Hughes is the world’s fastest man this year, but only by one hundredth of a second over Kenyan Ferdinand Omanyala. Noah Lyles, the world 200m champion, lurks after squeezing onto the team in third place at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships.

Anna Hall can become the second American to win a world title in the heptathlon after Jackie Joyner-Kersee. Hall has the world’s top score this year and became an even bigger favorite when Olympic and world champion Nafi Thiam of Belgium withdrew with an Achilles injury.

Other finals: men’s 10,000m, women’s long jump, men’s hammer, women’s 20km race walk

Day 3 | Mon., Aug. 21: U.S.-Jamaica clashes in sprints The women’s 100m may be the most anticipated race of the meet. It boasts Jamaican Shericka Jackson, the world’s fastest woman this year, and American Sha’Carri Richardson, who has two wins over Jackson this season. Then there’s five-time world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica, who is fourth-fastest in the world this year. Her first race of the season came late — July 8 — after a reported knee injury.

The 110m hurdles is also expected to come down to the U.S. and Jamaica. American Grant Holloway can become the second man to win three consecutive world titles in the event after the late Greg Foster. Jamaican Rasheed Broadbell is the world’s fastest this year. Another Jamaican, Olympic champion Hansle Parchment, is back after withdrawing before last year’s final with a reported hamstring injury.

Other finals: men’s discus, men’s triple jump

Day 4 | Tue., Aug. 22: More fireworks from Faith Kipyegon? Kipyegon, who broke world records this season in the 1500m, mile and 5000m, bids to become the first woman to win the 1500m and the 5000m at one world championships. First, it’s the final of the 1500m, which the Kenyan mom won at the Tokyo Olympics and last year’s worlds.

In the field, American Valarie Allman eyes the only major title missing from her collection in the discus. She followed her Tokyo Olympic gold with bronze at worlds last year.

Other finals: men’s 3000m steeplechase, men’s high jump

Day 5 | Wed., Aug. 23: Rivalry night The middle day of the championships should yield some of the best matchups in the sport. The men’s 400m hurdles final could include the three fastest men in history: Olympic gold medalist Karsten Warholm of Norway, Olympic and world silver medalist Rai Benjamin of the U.S. and world champion Alison dos Santos of Brazil. Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen is favored in the men’s 1500m, where budding challenger Yared Nuguse could win the first American medal in the event in a decade.

American Katie Moon looks to repeat as world champion in the pole vault. Countrywoman Sandi Morris owns four Olympic or world outdoor silver medals in the event and seeks her first gold. The 400m is missing the injured Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, but Olympic gold medalist Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas returns four months after childbirth to face her primary rivals of the last several years: Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain and Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic.

Day 6 | Thu., Aug. 24: Golden Americans return The U.S. boasts past world champions in three of the five events that have finals. Brooke Andersen and DeAnna Price won the last two world titles in the hammer. Nia Ali (100m hurdles) and Dalilah Muhammad (400m hurdles) took gold in 2019.

Of those, Andersen has the best odds given she owns the world’s top eight throws this year. Ali, 34, won her first U.S. title in July after coming back from her third childbirth. Muhammad, the third-fastest woman in history, takes on Dutchwoman Femke Bol, the second-fastest woman in history.

Other finals: men’s 400m, men’s long jump, women’s 35km race walk, men’s 35km race walk

Day 7 | Fri., Aug. 25: Iconic 200m world records under threat At last year’s world championships, Shericka Jackson ran the second-fastest time in history in the women’s 200m final. Noah Lyles ran the fourth-fastest time in history in the men’s 200m final. Both are back to defend their titles.

Lyles is undefeated this season and taking aim at Usain Bolt’s world record of 19.19, which is 12 hundredths faster than Lyles’ American record. Jackson, whose Jamaican record is 11 hundredths shy of Florence Griffith-Joyner’s world record, is ranked second in the world this season behind American Gabby Thomas, who is the fourth-fastest woman in history.

Other finals: women’s triple jump, women’s javelin

Day 8 | Sat., Aug. 26: Unprecedented double? World record? If all goes to plan, Kipyegon will bid to become the first woman to sweep the 1500m and 5000m at one world championships, tackling the longer final. She has never raced the 5000m at a global championship, but in June broke the world record in her first time contesting the distance in eight years. Her top challenger could be Dutchwoman Sifan Hassan, who plans to race the 1500m, 5000m and 10,000m, just as she did at the Tokyo Olympics (winning two gold and one bronze).

Swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis is also familiar with new feats. He broke the world record six times — each time raising it by a centimeter — and can become the second man to win three global outdoor titles in the event after legendary Ukrainian Sergey Bubka (who won seven).

The U.S. has gold-medal chances in the women’s shot put (defending champion Chase Ealey, 2023 world leader Maggie Ewen) and the men’s and women’s 4x100m relays.

Other finals: women’s marathon, decathlon

Day 9 | Sun., Aug. 27: Athing Mu Just like last year, Mu can deliver one more individual gold for the U.S. on the last day of the meet. She’s already the youngest woman in history to own Olympic and world titles in an individual event, plus undefeated at 800m for three years. Keely Hodgkinson, who was eight hundredths behind Mu last year, has this year lowered her British records indoors and outdoors.

Elsewhere, Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen could bid to become second man to sweep the 1500m and 5000m at one worlds (Bernard Lagat, 2007). The men’s and women’s 4x400m relays close out the competition. The U.S. can sweep those golds for a third consecutive worlds, but will be without Norman and McLaughlin-Levrone.

Other finals: women’s 3000m steeplechase, men’s marathon, women’s high jump, men’s javelin

Friends of the Department of History WWII Tour 2023

rose garden with building in background

FROM JUNE 16 to July 1, Professors Peter Hahn, Peter Mansoor, and David Steigerwald led thirteen guests to World War II and Cold War sites in London, Bletchley Park, Normandy, Paris, Kraków, and Berlin. This was the seventh version of this program, begun in 2011, which acquaints guests with the global education program in the Transnational History of World War II and raises scholarship funds to make possible participation by future students. Throughout the tours, the three professors engaged the tour guests with lectures on the history of the war and the sites they visited, making The Ohio State History Department version of this World War II tour very special indeed.

Professors Mansoor and Steigerwald led a small cohort of four guests to Bletchley Park, home of the codebreakers, as a pre-tour event on Friday, June 16. Once home to the top-secret Ultra program, Bletchley Park has been restored as a world-class museum, showcasing the life and times of codebreakers such as Alan Turing, inventor of the Bombe machine that cracked the Enigma cypher and father of the discipline of computer science. During the war the British Code and Cypher School transformed Bletchley Park into a massive intelligence factory, providing Allied high command with decoded Enigma messages that among other successes helped the Allies win the Battle of the Atlantic, interdict Axis supply lines in the Mediterranean, and provide vital confirmation of the success of Operation Fortitude, the Allied deception plan that convinced the Germans that the cross-Channel attack would come at the Pas de Calais and not in Normandy.

The main tour began on Saturday with a reception in the Strand Palace Hotel, followed the next morning by a visit to the Imperial War Museum. The curators used the COVID period to update the Great War and Second World War galleries, which our tour guests thoroughly enjoyed. More somber were the Holocaust galleries, the first of several opportunities for our guests to learn more about that horrific historical event.

Tour participants gather for a group photo on Omaha Beach.

The tour transitioned to France on Monday, June 19, with a ferry ride from Portsmouth to Caen and then a short bus ride to the Hotel Churchill in Bayeux. Over the next four days we toured Pegasus Bridge, taken by glider-borne assault on the early morning of June 6, 1944; Arromanches, where the remains of an artificial Mulberry Harbor can still be seen; Angoville-au-Plain, scene of a heroic act by two medics (one of them a former Ohio State student) to save more than eighty American and German lives on D-day; Utah Beach, successfully assaulted by the 4th Infantry Division on D-Day; St. Mère Église, taken by the 82nd Airborne Division in a heroic nighttime airborne jump; Point du Hoc, whose cliffs were scaled on D-Day in a famous U.S. Army Ranger assault; and Omaha Beach, where the 1st and 29th Infantry Divisions struggled mightily to get ashore in the face of fierce German resistance. The group also examined how different nations honor their fallen with visits to the German military cemetery at La Cambe, the Commonwealth military cemetery in Bayeux, and the American military cemetery at Coleville sur Mer, where tour guests planted Ohio State and American flags on the graves of the twelve Buckeyes buried there.

Faculty host, Peter Hahn, guiding group at Cecilienhof Palace in Potsdam, Germany.

The tour next traveled to Paris, where we examined the French Army Museum at Les Invalides and learned about the life and times of Charles de Gaulle and his Companions of Liberation, an order created by De Gaulle to honor those “people or military and civilian communities who have distinguished themselves in the work of liberation of France and its empire.”

On Sunday, June 25, we traveled by air to Kraków, Poland, where we toured the factory operated by Oskar Schindler, now a museum dedicated to the pre-war and wartime history of Kraków, and the death camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau. As a break from the chilling history of the Holocaust, the group enjoyed the warm hospitality of this wonderful city, which having never been fought over has maintained its medieval and early modern splendor.

Tour participant, Dan Raymond, having fun on a boat in Kraków.

Our final stop from June 28-30 was Berlin, where the group undertook a wartime walk of the city, including sites in the Tiergarten, the Soviet War Memorial, the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, the Holocaust Memorial, the site of Hitler’s wartime bunker (location of the classic scene of Hitler’s rant as his world crashes down upon him from the movie Downfall), and the Topography of Terror, a museum of the SS and its crimes against humanity. Our final day in Europe featured a tour of Wannsee House, where German military and civil leaders planned the execution of the Final Solution; Cecilienhof Palace, location of the meeting of the “Big Three” at the Potsdam Conference in July-August 1945; and the 1936 Olympic Stadium, where Buckeye great Jesse Owens was awarded four gold medals in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, the 4x100 meter relay, and the long jump.

Faculty hosts, Peter Hahn, Peter Mansoor, David Steigerwald, and tour guide Christian Mauer show off their Ohio State pride.

After two weeks we sadly parted company with our tour guests, but given the success of this and past tours, we are already planning for our next trip abroad, to the battlefields of the Pacific War in 2025. Those interested in hearing more about this upcoming tour can reach out to Amanda Budreau at [email protected] . The funds raised by past tours provide meaningful support to nearly two dozen students who enroll in the Transnational History of World War II each year. ■
