The original town was founded in 1745 and incorporated into a Bourough in 1838. William Doyle's Tavern,” the prominent white building in the center of town most commonly known for holding a Starbucks, was the 18th century inn that bloomed into the town now known as Doylestown. Doylestown has seen a renaissance of its downtown and an increased appreciation for its architectural heritage. The Doylestown Cultural District, which won USA Today 10Best’s  “Best Small Town Cultural Scene,” features the  Mercer Mile  of museums and  Michener Art Museum  and is just a short walk away from Main Street.

  • Fonthill Castle spring

Doylestown is most famously known for the Mercer Mile, which includes The Tileworks , Fonthill Castle and Mercer Museum . All three were built by archaeologist, philanthropist and famed resident Henry Chapman Mercer. His home, Fonthill Castle, is an eclectic mix of Gothic, Medieval and Byzantine architecture made entirely of concrete in the early 20 th century. The castle is available for public tours daily. The Mercer Museum, another concrete gem, was built to house Mercer's elaborate collection of 40,000+ historical artifacts from the American Industrial Revolution. The collection includes everything from cigar store statues to a Conestoga wagon, to a collection of chairs suspended from the ceiling. Lastly, The Tileworks is still today a “working history” museum that produces handmade tiles in the same fashion that Mercer perfected more than 100 years ago.

Borough of Doylestown, PA

  • doylestownborough.net

When former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter traveled to The Vatican to visit Pope Francis, he presented the pontiff with a gift: a set of handcrafted Mercer tiles from Doylestown .

Many have discovered Doylestown through the legacy of Henry Mercer.

This 19th-century archaeologist and industrialist built the cheerful borough’s three most striking landmarks: Fonthill Castle, a sprawling 44-room concrete palace; the Mercer Museum, a six-story Gothic and Byzantine historical repository for pieces of early Americana that Mercer collected; and Moravian Pottery & Tile Works, where employees preserve fading methods of production with care and attention.

Essential Info

The National Trust for Historic Preservation praised Doylestown for “rival(ing) many large cities … with its world-class cultural facilities, elegant Victorian architecture and historic attractions.”

Originally a tavern, the historic Fountain House now houses shops, offices and apartments.

The town’s history dates back to the Irish-born Doyle family, who settled the area after family patriarch, Edward Doyle, received a land grant from William Penn in 1692. Today, buildings from that era remain, including the Fountain House. Originally a tavern, it now houses shops, offices and apartments.

Though George Washington and his troops camped near Doylestown, it’s Civil War history and rare artifacts that are preserved at Bucks County Civil War Museum & Library.

Getting Here

The SEPTA Lansdale/Doylestown Line Regional Rail stops in downtown Doylestown, taking approximately 90 minutes from Center City stations. By car, the trip along I-76, I-476, I-276 and Route 611 takes less than 60 minutes. Metered parking and lots are available.

Food and Drink

Just outside town lie several wine attractions: Buckingham Valley Vineyards & Winery ; Wycombe Vineyards ; and Vivat Alfa Winery .

Back in town, it’s time for a beer at Maxwell’s on Main (or MOM’s as it’s known), which specializes in craft food and beer. Here, an assortment of dining rooms, bars and patios invite patrons to choose their favorite ambiance and enjoy American food with a touch of Southern inspiration and a stellar lineup of craft beer.

At bring-your-own-bottle spot Hickory Kitchen , diners wash down a full complement of barbecued meats, cornbread, fried pickles and secret sauces with homemade lemonade or sweet tea.

Seasonal Events

Henry Mercer’s castles and factory host some of the borough’s most cherished annual traditions.

In May, Moravian Pottery and Tile Works Festival brings artists, dealers and collectors of handmade tiles to the living-history factory.

Fonthill Castle hosts an old-fashioned Fourth of July celebration. Residents also know to visit the castles during the holiday season: Mercer Museum’s annual exhibition “Under the Tree: A Century of Holiday Trees and Toys” captures children’s Christmas excitement with historical toys and trees decorated in the style of past eras.

Couples Travel in the USA and Beyond

Downtown Doylestown PA: Fully Walkable 1 Day Itinerary

March 4, 2024 · USA Destinations , Pennsylvania

If you find yourself in beautiful Bucks County, Pennsylvania, you will definitely want to spend a day exploring charming Downtown Doylestown on foot. Visitors and residents alike can expect to find unique gifts, taste delicious food and uncover pre-Revolutionary War PA history all in just a day’s time !

There are tons of things to do in Doylestown PA but, but how about an itinerary for those looking for one exciting (but not overly planned) day exploring Downtown Doylestown by foot? Well, I’m your girl! I grew up in Doylestown , so I know exactly where you need to park and what you need to see if you only have one day to spend Downtown.

On this one day walkable itinerary, I’ll make sure you visit all the best shopping spots, lunch stops, and activities, with time for coffee (of course!). If you are spending a weekend getaway in Pennsylvania , be sure to stop in Doylestown!

downtown doylestown

Doylestown is located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania . Just a short drive from Philly, close to New York City, and an easy drive to the beach, I’ve always thought it was the definition of a perfect town! The romantic cobblestone streets and historical charm make it one of the best destinations in Pennsylvania for couples .

One of the highlights of Doylestown is it’s charming downtown area. This post is a completely walkable guide to all the places you must visit while in the heart of the city, Downtown Doylestown!

Jump Ahead To

Downtown Doylestown, PA – One Day Walkable Itinerary

Find a parking spot.

Okay, so this might be the only un-fun thing about the day. Not because there aren’t a lot of parking options, but just because, personally, parking gives me anxiety no matter where it is. So if you’re not like me in that regard, it will be a breeze!

My go-to parking is a good curb spot . Unless there is a special event, there are usually plenty of options (some that don’t even require parallel parking!). Depending on the time, you may have to put a few quarters in a meter.

If curb parking isn’t your thing (or isn’t available), Doylestown township owns two parking garages that are centrally located and very reasonably priced!

  • Bucks County Parking Garage –  E Court St. & N. Broad Street (starts at 50 cents/hour)
  • Bucks County Parking Garage – Union St. & N. Broad Street ($1/hour)

More info on Bucks County Parking Garages can be found here!

Fuel Up With Coffee!

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Nonno’s Italian Coffee Parlor (@nonnos_cafe)

Every great day starts with a great cup of coffee!  One option for coffee in Downtown Doylestown is, of course, Starbucks . Known as the center point of Main Street Doylestown, this unique Starbucks is located inside an old colonial building! One of the 7 pre-revolutionary taverns in town, this gem was built in 1758 by William Doyle, the founder of Doylestown. Talk about history!

If you were looking for a local coffee spot, you must check out Nonno’s Italian Coffee Parlor , where you can sip on an authentic Italian cappuccino and take a baked good to go! They also serve gelato – who says you can’t have that for breakfast too?

Check out the Doylestown Shopping Scene

Next, you’ll want to check out all the great boutique stores that are within walking distance! The shopping in Doylestown cannot be missed . Whether you are looking for clothing or a souvenir, you’re bound to find something.

Some of the best shopping in Doylestown can be found at  Something Else ; a clothing boutique right in the center of town. I can  always find something I love in that store! I have found countless dresses for all sorts of occasions at Something Else. Highly recommend.

Other great downtown Doylestown shops are  Serendipity , Smith & Scott Boutique, and  Monkey’s Uncle !

You’ll also definitely want to check out the Doylestown Bookshop . Serving as the largest independent book shop in Bucks County, this quaint store is deceiving from the outside! Home to thousands of unique finds, you will definitely want to carve out some time to find your next great read at one of the best Doylestown shops for books.

Go to the Doylestown Farmer’s Market

The Doylestown Farmer’s Market, open April through November every Saturday from 8am-1pm, is a one of the best things to do in Downtown Doylestown PA. This open-air market hosts up to 26 different vendors that sell local produce, baked goods, and specialty foods. Complete with live music, seasonal events, and even chef demonstrations and tastings, this stop is a foodie’s paradise!

Lunch it Up!

Downtown Doylestown PA restaurants are some of the best in the area , perfect for a lunch stop after exploring your favorite Downtown Doylestown PA shops.

Once you start to get hungry, head over to one of my favorite restaurants in town, 86 West ! Luckily, if you went to the Farmer’s Market, it’s just a short walk further down the street!

Located on State Street, 86 West has a fantastic menu of sushi and sashimi, as well as raw bar. If weather permits, snag a seat outside on their beautiful patio or take a seat inside where you’ll be surrounded by chic decor. They have an award winning happy hour that you won’t want to miss, every day from 4pm-6pm.

You can’t go wrong with anything on their menu, but my absolute favorite is the Godzilla Roll.

Other Great Downtown Doylestown Lunch Spots:

  • Empanada Mama – locals know this place to be the #1 spot in town for empanadas!
  • Spuntino Woodfired Pizzeria – mean who doesn’t love a traditional woodfired pizza!?

What to do, eat, and see in Doylestown

Here's where to dine, drink, shop, and stay in Doylestown.

The intersection of State and Main Streets in Doylestown.

Doylestown in Bucks County has a little of everything. Though it’s surrounded by newer subdivisions, there’s still open countryside, working farms, 19th-century houses, and a bustling walkable downtown with unique museums, a retro movie theater, and a diverse shopping and dining scene.

“Doylestown truly is a unique place. It is very rare to find someplace with such a strong sense of community,” says Brittany Brown, who’s lived in the area for much of her life, and writes about the area for the Doylestown Cardinal newspaper, as well as on her blog and on Instagram .

Doylestown notables include musician Pink and writer James A. Michener, who were both born here; composer Stephen Sondheim, who spent his childhood here; Oscar Hammerstein II, who lived and died here; and archaeologist and artist Henry Chapman Mercer, whose buildings you can still go see.

Here’s everything you need for a trip to Doylestown:

History of Doylestown: Doylestown was named for the Doyle family. Edward Doyle immigrated to America from Ireland in 1640, spending some time in Rhode Island before receiving a land grant from William Penn and moving to Bucks County. The town was officially founded in 1745 when the Doyle family built an inn. William Doyle went on to construct seven taverns, including The Fountain House, which is the only one that remains today. The area was first referred to as “William Doyle’s Tavern” and was later shortened to “Doyle’s Town,” and then Doylestown.

Getting there: Doylestown is an easy day, or afternoon, trip from Philadelphia. You can take a SEPTA train from Jefferson Station to Doylestown Station, which takes 1 hour and 18 minutes. You can also take a Greyhound bus from Philadelphia to Doylestown. This ride also takes 1 hour and 18 minutes.

From Center City, it’s about a 40-minute drive.

Doylestown, by the season

What to do in spring:

Get outside and explore by biking or hiking. The Doylestown Bike and Hike Trails system is a car-free network of 30 miles of paved pathways. Or spend time at Doylestown's parks and playgrounds, including the popular Kids Castle.

What to do in summer:

There are festivals and events all summer, including Pride Festival, car shows, and more. In 2020, Doylestown Borough Council started a   “Pedestrian Zone” program: From April through October, portions of East State, West State and Main Streets close to traffic on Friday and Saturday to allow shops and restaurants to expand into the streets.

What to do in fall:

Hellerick’s Family Farm is the place to go for pumpkin fun. The town also hosts its Community Arts Festival every September with two days of artwork, live music, and more.

What to do in winter:

Doylestown Winterfest is a town-wide celebration with festive traditions such as a tree lighting and Santa Parade, community Hanukkah celebration, business decorating contest, and more. Fonthill Castle is also elaborately decorated for Christmas.

Fonthill Castle in Doylestown: 8 Things to Know Before You Go

Tucked away in a Doylestown neighborhood, the 44-room Fonthill Castle is one of the most unique architectural works in Pennsylvania. Thanks to its construction and detailed interior, the enormous building is as much a curiosity today as when it was built over 110 years ago.

Tours at Fonthill are packed with information about the castle and its creative owner and builder, Henry Chapman Mercer. It’s one of our favorite sites in Bucks County , and we have visited the distinctive property several times to soak in all its artistry in different seasons.

Here are a few useful things to know about the castle and visiting Fonthill.

Exterior of a large concrete building with lots of windows.

Fonthill is inspired by the grand manors and castles of Europe

Wealthy and curious, Mercer traveled the world for personal enjoyment and in his work as a collector, museum curator, and archaeologist. From England to Italy and beyond, his travels inspired the floor plan and details of Fonthill.

A video in the visitor’s center explains how Mercer drew inspiration from castles along the Rhine River, and the tour gives even more detail. Whether it was incorporating ideas about wood paneling that he loved in a 12 th -century English manor house or copying elements of Gothic and Byzantine architecture, Mercer brought a little bit of Europe to then-rural Bucks County.

The castle’s construction was an experiment

The most distinguishing aspect of Fonthill is that it is made entirely of hand-poured, reinforced concrete. From the vaulted ceilings to the polished floors, Mercer designed and oversaw it all himself in an experiment he wasn’t sure would work. He even told people that an architect who cared about his reputation would never make such risky choices.

Mercer believed in his vision and the material he thought was best—concrete was cheap, fireproof, and easily molded. Since a visit here is still one of the top things to do in Doylestown a century later, the risk paid off.

Two-story room with a large staircase and tiled ceiling.

The massive house is filled with handmade and historic tiles

With 44 rooms, 32 stairwells, 18 fireplaces, and 21 chimneys, this home was built to stand out. Many of those spaces are covered in tiles that Mercer designed and made himself or collected from around the world.

Mercer’s distinctive tiles are handmade from clay using the skills he learned from a Pennsylvania-German master potter. They show scenes from daily life and have unique designs. Many tell stories from history and literature, and they are everywhere throughout the castle from stairs to fireplaces.

On a tour, you may see the brightly colored tiles depicting the life of Christopher Columbus or the maps of explorers from centuries ago. We particularly liked the decorative tiles at the tops of columns and crisscrossing the ceiling vaults.

In addition to the tiles Mercer made, you’ll see lots of examples from around the world. There are distinctive Delft blue tiles from the Netherlands, Chinese roof tiles, and Persian tiles. There are even 2000-year-old cuneiform tablets from Babylon incorporated in one of the columns.

Large fireplace decorated with tiles.

Consider time of day and weather for your tour

A 110-year-old home made of solid concrete presents an unusual visiting environment. While it has 200 windows, other lighting is minimal. Coupled with some low ceilings, a visit on an overcast day could mean a relatively low amount of light inside. Additionally, the first floor has air conditioning, but other spaces only have a fan, so it can get warm on a summer afternoon. Consider the overall conditions and what you’re comfortable with when planning a visit .

Arrive early for your visit

The welcome center, which was once the property’s garage, is just a few steps from the parking area. It’s best to arrive about 10-15 minutes before the scheduled start of your tour to leave time to check in.

There is also a short video to watch that provides an overview about Mercer and the castle. Several displays showcase documents and photos of Fonthill’s construction, which are interesting if you want to know more details about the building.

This is also the place to use the restroom.

No two tours are the same

Both of our guides at Fonthill were knowledgeable and shared similar types of information about the castle and Mercer. However, guides have some latitude in what they focus on as they move through the property because there are so many different things to highlight.

Our first guide was fascinated by Mercer and his career, and she added lots of information about his travels and family background to her story. Our second guide was a lover of the architecture and tiles, pointing out many details that we might have otherwise overlooked. If there is an aspect of the site and history that particularly interests you, there is plenty of time for questions throughout the tour.

Christmas is an ideal time to visit

Illuminated Christmas tree beside a staircase.

Fonthill is beautiful in every season, but the holidays are particularly special. At Christmas, the mansion features 15 themed Christmas trees and lots of decorations. They combine to make the space cozy and festive.

During the holidays, there are daytime and evening tours, so you can appreciate the castle in different ways. We opted to take the last of the daytime tours, so there was still some light but we could fully appreciate the illuminated trees at the same time just before sunset.

Large concrete building with a sign "Mercer Museum and Library" and a 3-D sign for "Bucks County."

Fonthill is just one of three institutions Mercer built in Doylestown

In addition to the castle, two other buildings complete what is known as the Mercer Mile. Among the most popular Doylestown attractions , the Moravian Pottery & Tile Works and the Mercer Museum are well worth a visit.

Adjacent to Fonthill, the Tile Works still produces the Moravian tiles seen throughout the house. You can take a tour to see artisans at work and even make your own tile.

The third structure is Mercer Museum , which houses Henry Mercer’s spectacular collection. The museum is overflowing with pre-Industrial tools and items from around America. There are more than 15,000 items on display with some even hanging from the ceiling. It is a truly incredible collection.

Today, T&C hosts a season of six productions, not including the family musical, children's play and one-act festival. About Doylestown, PA

Doylestown is the county seat of Bucks County and is about miles outside of Philadelphia. It gets its name from William Doyle, an Irish settler who opened a tavern at present-day Main and State Streets in 1754. In 1818, the Township of Doylestown was established.

Now, Doylestown is home to over 8000 residents and boasts a lively downtown with many shops and restaurants.

Fun Things to Do in Doylestown With Kids

1. mercer museum.

📍 84 South Pine Street

📆 Open Tuesday – Sunday

In the heart of Doylestown, Henry Mercer built a unique concrete castle to house his collection of 19th-century farming equipment and other tools from the pre-industrial era.

a boat and other tools hang from the ceiling and walls in the concrete museum

The  Mercer Museum  feels like a fun maze and kind of like an MC Escher painting, with tools and furniture from the 19th century tucked in every corner and hanging from every surface. Even from the ceiling!

There are a few rooms dedicated to kids’ learning with interactive exhibits. Kids will also love following Rollo’s (Mercer’s dog) paw prints around the museum to learn more fun facts about the era.

In addition to the main exhibit area, there is always a special exhibit happening near the entrance. it is included with admission, so don’t forget to stop by.

Visitor Tip: The Mercer Museum tends to stay cool year-round, even in the summer. It is especially cold inside the main part of the museum in winter, so make sure to dress warmly!

2. Michener Art Museum

📍 138 S Pine Street

the entrance to Michener Museum uses part of the old Bucks County Prision

Although art museums aren’t typically a top choice of things to do with kids, we still think the Michener Art Museum is worth visiting.

Located directly across the street from the Mercer Museum in Doylestown, PA, the Michener Museum is housed in the old Bucks County Prison building. Its unique look on the outside will help draw kids inside. And kids will also enjoy exploring the scupltures by the entrance.

Inside, you’ll find beautiful artwork from local artists as well as a fun kids’ area. The area encourages kids to create their own art or read some age-appropriate books to learn more about the types and styles of art.

The Michener Art Museum is the  perfect place to introduce kids to art due to its size and what it offers.

3. Fonthill Castle

📍 East Court Street & Route 313

Just like the Mercer Museum, Henry Mercer’s home, Fonthill Castle, is cool to explore. Visiting this concrete castle is one of our favorite things to do in Bucks County , as once you visit, you’ll understand why.

Fonthill Castle in Doylestown Pennsylvania

The house was built around an old farmhouse and expanded on both sides, made entirely from concrete. Both inside and out, the walls, floors, and ceilings are decorated with beautiful, colorful tiles made at Mercer’s tileworks next door.

Tours are offered Tuesday-Sunday.  You’ll want to book a tour ahead of time to guarantee a spot.

One of the best times to visit the home is  during Christmas . They decorate a dozen themed trees and display them throughout the building. It’s a fun and interesting way to explore the castle!

4. Fonthill Castle Park Walk

📆 Daily from dawn-dusk

If you want to get outside but don’t want to do a major hike, the trails at Fonthill are the answer. The Fonthill Castle Park Walk trails meander through the property, crossing over streams and passing an old house on the property.

A two-story stone house in the woods as seen from the Fonthill Castle park walk trails

The trails are not marked, but the paths are clear enough to direct you where to go. You can also download a map , but not every trail is marked on the map.

The Fonthill Castle Park Walk loop is just over 1 mile, but you can shorten or lengthen your walk depending on which trails you take.

5. Moravian Tileworks

📍130 E Swamp Road

After visiting both Henry Mercer’s home and museum, you’ll want to see where all of his beautiful tiles came from. That’s where the  Moravian Pottery and Tileworks Museum  comes in!

Moravian Pottery and Tile Works

You can take a self-guided tour through the tileworks, exploring the decorative halls and workshops throughout the grounds. While you’re there, you can watch the craftsmen turn clay into gorgeous, colorful tiles.

If you want to make your own tile, they offer special tours on Tuesdays that include the opportunity. Keep in mind it will take about 4 weeks to receive the finished product.

Touring the tileworks is fun and educational as you learn how things were made before machinery took over.

Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop to pick up one of the hand-made tiles as a souvenir.

6. Community Labyrinth

📍E Ashland and S Pine Streets

📆 Daily dawn-dusk

Right down the street from the Mercer and Michener museums is a small labyrinth that everyone can enjoy.

a young boy runs around a stone labyrinth during early spring

Kids will love following the path to the center and then racing back out again! December is a fun time to visit, as the labyrinth is covered in lights, making it feel even more magical!

7. Kids Castle

📍425 Wells Road

Kids Castle  is one of the coolest playgrounds in the county . This multi-story wood structure contains obstacles, mazes, slides, and other fun activities. And surrounding the castle are even more fun activities. There is even an area fenced off for the littlest of visitors.

Kids Castle in Doylestown Pennsylvania

One of the reasons we love Kids Castle is that the castle and play areas are fenced in, with only one way in and out. Parents can sit on the shaded benches by the entrance/exit and let their kids run wild!

Visitor Tip: There are no bathrooms down by the castle. It’s a good idea to use the bathrooms by the soccer fields or the portable bathrooms (when available) before heading down the hill to the castle.

8. Doylestown Rock Gym

📍3853 Old Easton Road

📆 Daily (Hours varying)

No matter the weather outside, whether it’s too hot, too cold, or too rainy to get out and play, you can always work off some energy at Doylestown Rock Gym.

a young boy climbs on wall at an indoor rock climbing gym

This rock gym caters to both novice and experienced climbers, so it’s the perfect place to visit with kids, especially those who have never climbed before. Even better, there is no age minimum! So, if your three-year-old is climbing everything and anything at home, get them to Doylestown Rock Gym !

9. Hellerick’s Family Farm

📍5500 N. Easton Road

📆 Daily (April-November)

Hellerick’s is not just any farm, and you will be able to see why once you arrive.

In addition to all of the usual farm activities, like hayrides and corn mazes, Hellerick’s offers other fun things to do, like the towering aerial adventure park that features 9 ziplines, 21 bridge crossing elements, and a free fall from the 30-foot tower.

view of a three story obstacle net course with ziplines

If that is a little intense for your child, they can try out the 6 different obstacle courses that are ground level or any of the other activities like the slide, farm skeeball, or the silo climbing wall.

There are so many ways you can play and have a great time at Hellericks, it’s no wonder it’s a top thing to do with kids in Doylestown.

10. Explore an Old-Growth Forest at Hart’s Woods

📆 Daily (dawn-dusk)

Did you know that only 1% of Eastern original forests remain standing today? Thankfully, a small old-growth forest exists in Doylestown and is under conservation thanks to the Heritage Conservancy.

You can explore the forest by taking the ½-mile loop trail from multiple entry points. It loops around inside the perimeter of the woods. There is also a .15-mile spur trail that links up with the loop on the northwest side.

The trail is close to Kids Castle, so you can easily do both on the same day.

To learn more about old-growth forests, listen to the “Protecting Pennsylvania’s ancient forests” episode by Hemlocks to Hellbenders podcast .

11. Kayaking at Peace Valley Park

📍264 Creek Road

📆 Hours vary

If you love the idea of getting out of the water, then you’ll love kayaking or boating at Peace Valley Park .

a young girl is seen kayaking in front of another boat on a large lake

During the summer months, you can rent a paddleboat, kayak, or canoe at the park. Or you can use your own boat! With our inflatable k ayak , we’ve been able to get out on the water as late as November.

Lake Galena is large and offers a fun way to enjoy the beautiful scenery while checking out the local wildlife. It’s a fun activity in Doylestown that any kid would enjoy.

12. Peace Valley Nature Center

📍170 North Chapman Road

📆 Trails are open daily (dawn-dusk). The nature center store is open Tuesday-Sunday

Another way to enjoy the beauty of nature in Peace Valley Park is the Peace Valley Nature Center .

Side of a gray building with lettering that reads "who learns will love and not destroy the creatures of life the flowers of joy"

It’s the perfect place to go birding, as you’ll see waterfowl and other local birds. We sat in their bird blind for a good 30 minutes, watching the birds splash around and play.

The nature center also has trails through the forest to the lake. Due to the amount of water nearby, these trails get very muddy, so make sure to wear shoes you don’t mind getting dirty!

13. Henry Schmieder Arboretum

📍700 E Butler Avenue

📆 Open daily (dawn-dusk)

Another way to spend a beautiful day outside in Doylestown is to walk around the Henry Schmieder Arboretum at Delaware Valley University. There are over a dozen things to see around the campus, including the peony collection, rose garden, and rock garden.

It is FREE to visit the arboretum, but they ask you to stop by the security building first to pick up a walking-tour map and visitor parking permit. If you plan to visit during the week, stop by the office at Feldman 123.

New Barnes & Noble Finally Opens in Doylestown, PA

  • Print this page

As expected, the much-anticipated Barnes & Noble in Doylestown opened this week (Wednesday, September 4) to the delight of locals.

The Patch says the new store in the Barn Plaza (just off Route 611) is over 11,000- square-feet and part of a major makeover  for the shopping center.

Several restaurants and stores will be opening including Bucks County's first Whole Foods Market, which doesn't currently have an opening date.

Honeygrow and FirstWatch are joining the other restaurants like Piccolo Trattoria.

The manager of the new Barnes & Noble is Doylestown resident, Sean Curran.

94.5 PST logo

At the ribbon cutting on Wednesday, Curran told the crowd, "I am beyond honored to be here today as the manager of the very first store in this area. I am so deeply touched to see all of you . And, I'm so incredibly grateful to all the people who created one of the most beautiful stores I have ever been in."

Doylestown resident and Philadelphia sports writer, Mike Sielski, was on hand for the grand opening.

Sielski is the author of, "The Rise: Kobe Bryant and the Pursuit of Immortality"  and "Fading Echoes." He signed copies of his books for fans.

The new Barnes & Noble and Whole Foods Market are taking over the space in Barn Plaza previously occupied by Marshall's and Homegoods.

If you're looking for something to do, go browse around the new Barnes & Noble. There's a cafe, where you can sit, relax, and grab a drink or snack.

All of the outside signage for the new Whole Foods Market is up, but it still needs some inside work completed.

As soon as I find out the opening date, I'll let you know.
