Changes and cancellations fees.

etihad airways travel insurance

We’re updating our fees for changes, cancellations and no-shows effective 21 March 2024.

For tickets issued or reissued on and after 21 March 2024, our new policies will apply. The updated structures will be available on GDS from 21 March.

Frequently Asked Questions

When are the changes going live.

The changes are going live on 21 st March 2024

What are the changes?

Changes have been made to the Cancellation, Changes and No-show policies.

What are the benefits of this change?

The following are the benefits of this change:

  • Simplified and easy-to-understand fare structure.
  • Standardized fare rules, enabling speed to market.

Is there any impact on a guest ticket purchased before the change and comes for an exchange after the change?

  • For a fully unused ticket, the fare will be repriced according to current fares applying the change fee of the original fare. For further changes, a new change fee will apply.
  • For a partially used ticket, the ticket will be repriced using historical fare and a change fee of the original fare.

A guest purchased a ticket on 15 March for outbound travel on 23 March. The guest wants to make a change to travel on 22 March (within 96 hours). Will the old or new change fee apply?

The rules of the original ticket will apply, i.e., the guest will be charged 96 hours change fee.

Can travel agents just cancel the booking to avoid no-show fees?

The travel agent must cancel the booking, and either refund or reissue the ticket before four hours of flight departure to avoid no-show fees. Cancelling the booking only without refunding or reissuing will not waive no-show fees.

What are the scenarios eligible for no-show waiver?

No-show fees are waived if the guest is unable to travel due to reasons such as flight disruption, oversell, MedLink offload or death in the family. A no-show fee applies in all other cases including immigration offloads.

For the USD filing for changes and cancellations; what is the conversion rate and conversion date that should be applied for general queries? For refunds, should we base it on the ticket issuance date or the refund date?

The system applies conversion rates as per transaction date.

For a fully unused ticket, the fare will be repriced according to current fares and for any subsequent changes; it will be as per the newly exchanged ticket. Is this understanding correct?

Yes, this understanding is correct. Fees for further exchanges or refunds will be as per the new fare.

If the ticket is booked on outbound with HBO fare and inbound on Value fare – and the guest contacts travel agents only to change the inbound flight (value fare); which change policy would apply?

A change fee will apply as per the changed fare component. In case an upsell of the outbound fare is required (HBO in this scenario), the non-changeable condition of HBO will apply.

How does the change impact stored fares for Tour Operator (TO) bookings?

  • The new policy will apply to all bookings created on/after 21 March 2024.
  • Stored fare rules will be honored for all TO bookings created before 21 March 2024.

When determining the change fees for a guest who did not show up for a flight, should the agent combine the change and no show fees?

The fare rules are now displayed separately for "change fees" and "change fees + no-show fees." When manually calculating fees, the agent shouldn't add them all together.

Flights and insurance

Getting to africa.

Many international airlines have weekly and sometimes daily flights to many destinations in Africa. Popular airlines include Qatar Airways , KLM , British Airways , South African Airways , Etihad Airways , Emirates and Lufthansa .

There are even flights directly to some African destinations from the USA, Australia, the Middle East, and Asia, although many cheaper flights will take travelers through major European airports such as Heathrow (London) and Schiphol (Amsterdam).

Don’t be alarmed if your flight to Zimbabwe or Zambia goes through Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport. This airport is a hub for many flights to other destinations in southern Africa and flights such as these are commonplace. Make sure you check whether a transit visa is required.

Once you arrive at the airport designated for your project, you will no longer have to worry about transport as we will meet you at the airport and provide all transportation while you’re on project!

Travel insurance

Prior to your trip you will need to arrange travel insurance that will also give you full cover for any medical requirements that may arise during your trip, including cover for full air evacuation in the unlikely event that this is necessary. Your medical cover also needs to include repatriation.

Travel insurance is also good to have in case anything happens to your camera equipment or other belongings. We suggest World Nomads * but you are welcome to use whichever provider you find suitable.

If you are working on a conservation or research project and will be working with wild animals please ensure that your insurance covers you adequately.

*World Nomads provides travel insurance for travelers in over 100 countries. As an affiliate, we receive a fee when you get a quote from World Nomads using this link. We do not represent World Nomads. This is information only and not a recommendation to buy travel insurance.
