This walking tour takes you through lower downtown Denver, known as LoDo, and the Ballpark neighborhood for stops at four breweries and bars. Coors Brewery Tour

Price: From $20 Duration: 1.5 hours

The Coors Brewery has been serving up cold beers right outside Denver in Golden, Colorado, since 1873. The Coors Brewery Tour gives you a 60-minute glimpse into the process of creating Coors products, including the science behind the brewing process. You also have the chance to enjoy three samples after the tour, given in aluminum cups that you can take home as a souvenir. Reviewers find the tour fun and educational, though some note you'll have to plan your outing in advance as reservations are required and tickets sell out fast.

Tours are available Thursday through Sunday from 10:10 a.m. to about 3:40 p.m., though hours are subject to change. Reservations are required and slots open 25 days in advance of the tour date. This four-hour tour from Aspire Tours takes you to two separate breweries with a scenic drive through the Rocky Mountains in between. Prost Brewing Company is an authentic German Brewery that uses equipment that was brought to Colorado from a village in Bavaria, where it had been used to produce German-style beers since 1963. Prost Brewing offers a brewery and fermentation room tour that takes you behind the scenes of their brewing operation and show you steps of their brewing process. At the end of the tour you will receive a sample of four of their speciality beers to taste as well.

Renegade Brewing Company , the brewery that prides itself with creative brews created in a non-traditional style, hosts brewery tours of its Yard location. The brewery tour package includes a tour of their facility, two 10oz beers and one pint glass to take home.

Wynkoop Brewing Company was the first brew-pub to open in Colorado back in 1988 at the historic J.S. Brown Mercantile building. Wynkoop Brewing Company offers a brewery tour where you get to view how they brew their beers, ask the staff questions and sample their beers along the way.

It’s also the city with the highest volume of beer brewed daily in America. Even if you are unable to score tickets to The Great American Beer Festival, you should still schedule a beercation to Denver Colorado in the near future. Our award-winning City Brew Tours have yet to reach Denver. However, we’ve crafted a list of places for you to start your own beer tour of the Mile High City!

Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project

If you’re looking for a wild or sour beer, you’ll want to visit The Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project. There are over 20 beers on tap, many of which are specialty or barrel-aged beers. This brewery takes pride in collaborating with local farmers and craftsmen for their malt, fruit, hops and other ingredients. The bulk of their brewing takes place at their main facility in RiNo, but they also have a taproom at The Source Hotel and have recently opened a second experimental brewery in Fort Collins.

The Grateful Gnome Sandwich Shoppe and Brewery

Satisfy your craving for both beer and food at The Grateful Gnome. This neighborhood brewpub doubles as a full-service New Jersey style sandwich shop and microbrewery. Sandwiches here are packed with fresh, plentiful ingredients, including freshly-sliced meat at the counter. The taproom pours mostly house-made beers but sometimes features other local Colorado breweries. Don’t miss your chance to pair the beer’s bitter, hoppy flavors with The Grateful Gnome’s rich and savory sandwich contents.

Odell Brewing Company

Because of the growing craft beer presence in the River North Art District (RiNo), Odell Brewing Co. expanded from Fort Collins to Denver in 2018. With solar panels, reduced water consumption in production, and more, Odell takes many steps towards being environmentally-conscious. Their restored brick building includes bold, floor-to-ceiling hop murals, two-story outdoor patio space, and a fire pit. There’s plenty of space to kick back and enjoy a classic Odell IPA, or if you’re feeling more adventurous, one of their small-batch brews, exclusive to the RiNo taproom.

Novel Strand Brewing Co.

By day, Novel Strand is a coffee shop, and by night it’s a cozy brewery and taproom. It’s one of the first breweries to have African-American owners in the state. Founders Chantel Columna, Tamir Danon, and Ayana Coker believe that everyone should feel welcome in their brewery, and that “being interested in beer is for everyone.” Their small production setup allows them to brew a wide variety of styles, so there’s always something new on tap.

Comrade Brewing Co.

This microbrewery is family-owned. They offer hop-heavy pale ales made with brewing equipment made only in the United States. There’s plenty of room for you and all of your comrades in their 5,300 square foot tasting room and private parking lot with over 600 spots.

Denver Beer Co.

Denver Beer Co.’s Platte Street location is a former car garage with a dog-friendly beer garden making it one of the most popular beer destinations for locals and visitors in the summer. They brew in small batches to crank out as many styles as possible; you’ll want to enjoy your favorites before it’s too late! From running club to food trucks, there’s always something new to discover at this craft brewery.

Bruz Beers is one of the few breweries in Midtown that specialize in traditional Belgian beer styles. This Denver Brewery offers 20 beers on tap, including the citrusy Dame Blanche Witbier, the malty-sweet Gargoyle Dubbel, and many other regular and seasonal favorites. Pizza and light snacks are available on the Bruz Beer menu, but they also host a different gourmet food truck every day.

New Belgium Brewing at The Source

That iconic red bicycle is a staple of craft beer in Colorado and across the country. New Belgium’s two Denver locations at Denver International Airport and The Source Hotel are ideal for travelers. Beer in Colorado is epic, and we’ve got some of the best breweries in Denver listed for you right here!

Visitors arrive in Colorado, many of them specifically heading to Denver, solely to visit the breweries here. With over 400 hundred in the state, around 100 of them being in Denver, how can one not pay a visit to Denver’s breweries?

But how do you choose where to go? It’s time to head to the River North Art District in Denver, better known as RiNo. Some of the best breweries in Denver are the RiNo breweries. No Denver brewery tour is complete without visiting this eclectic neighborhood.

Denver Brewery Guide to RiNo Breweries

With over ten breweries, all within two miles of each other, this RiNo brewery list provides immensely walkable brewery hopping opportunities. Getting to all of these Denver breweries in one day may be feasible, but definitely not recommended. Especially if you’d like to continue liking yourself the next day.

We feel it’s important to slow down when visiting breweries. You’ll get a chance to experience more of the real vibe of a brewery and the community it serves. So, on that note, you may want to stick around RiNo for at least two days. Or simply choose a few breweries to really explore and then come back another time for another round… or two. There are plenty more breweries to experience. You are, after all, in Denver.

Denver’s Best Breweries (Our Favorites in RiNo)

We’ll tell you what breweries in RiNo that we recommend (really all of them are worthy) and our favorites based on beer, ambiance, and more. What we won’t tell you is where not to go. Everyone has differing opinions on what creates a favorite place for them and there are so many subjective components that come into play when choosing favorite breweries or elsewhere.

Our favorite breweries in River North (as of now) include: Our Mutual Friend, River North, Black Shirt, and Great Divide.

You’ll have to embark upon your own RiNo brewery tour to figure out your favorites. We’re simply here to get you started with a listing and brief description of all of the RiNo breweries, which also happen to be some of the best breweries in Denver and Colorado.

RiNo Breweries

RiNo, short for River North, is an arts district known for its graffiti-style murals, art galleries, and breweries and eateries, all within walking distance of each other. Located just northeast of downtown Denver proper, it’s comprised of four historical neighborhoods: Globeville, Elyria- Swansea, Five Points, and Cole.

RiNo is quickly becoming a top Denver tourist destination, especially for those looking to experience some of Denver’s finest breweries.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been to Our Mutual Friend (OMF) yesterday or two years ago, this brewery gives you that same warm, fuzzy feeling every time you walk in the door. Isn’t that how friends are? It doesn’t matter how long it’s been since you’ve seen each other, you can pick up right where the relationship left off.

And having finely-tuned and crafted beer helps, too. You’ll find the classics, but you’ll also find beer the likes of a Norwegian Smoked Dark Strong Ale or a Wine Barrel Fermented Farmhouse Ale, to name just a couple.

With a diverse list of beers and a crowd with just as much diversity, Our Mutual Friend has the beer, the ambiance, and everything that ranks for us to have this cozy taproom be one of our top RiNo breweries.

They also happen to have one of the best tasting BBQ food trucks by their side.

Ratio 2920 Larimer St. Denver, CO

This is one of those breweries that we needed to give a second chance before we made a full decision that it’s a great place. Everyone raves about Ratio, so when we first went it just didn’t hit the vibe we were expecting from a brewery.

Don’t get me wrong they have great beer. It was the nightclub type of atmosphere that just didn’t fit our style of the quaint little taproom. I guess that’s what we get for going there on a Friday night.

We decided to go again and finally understood what all the fuss was about. Yes, it’s not cozy and quaint but the almost industrial-like feel works for the neighborhood. It greets you properly and you feel like you are in an artsy district. Which you are.

Plus, they have a kick-ass patio with a mural that depicts the beauty of RiNo and Colorado.

Ratio is another must visit brewery. Did I mention that one of their core beers is a carrot saison – King of Carrot Flowers? Just that should be enough to get your curiosity piqued.

Inspired by the punk scene in the 90s , Ratio’s attitude about beer is still embedded in that scene, meaning they do what they want, and they do it well. “We learned how to drink on tour. We learned how to brew in Germany.”

Odell Brewing 2945 Larimer St. Denver, CO

Yes, we know Odell is a great Colorado brewery, born and raised in Fort Collins, but we’re grateful that they have a taproom in Five Points (along with another in Sloan’s Lake area in Denver).

A Colorado brewery to its core, the RiNo brewery is still exactly that with an urban vibe that suits RiNo quite nicely.

Odell’s first Denver brewhouse is complete with a beautiful patio, fire pits and its must have core beers such as 90 Schilling. You’ll also find small-batch beers brewed exclusively for the RiNo location, two bars, and a rooftop patio, all located in a historic building.

Bierstadt 2875 Blake St. Denver, CO

Bierstadt has set themselves up for community. With community-style seating and authentic German-style fare, you might just be able to pretend you’re in Munich. Almost. The lagerhaus is housed in a large warehouse on the top floor overlooking the public beer garden, which is the Bierhalle.

“We don’t play games with our bier. Our Bierhalle is a different story.” This brewery is a space to play like adults while drinking the beer we’ve all worked so hard to earn. You’ll find live music, lawn games, and even pro wrestling here.

The vibe is energizing and the atmosphere is truly fitting to the RiNo district giving adults a place to share in the wealth that is Bierstadt Lagerhaus and The Bierhalle. This is a must visit when coming to Denver for any brewery tour.

14er Brewing 3120 Blake St., #C Denver, CO

Taking over the space that used to be Beryl’s Beer Company in 2018, 14er Brewing came to RiNo with visions of entertaining good people in a good space with good beer. That they have done, with a patio that faces Blake Street, a welcoming taproom, and good beer.

This good beer includes up to 31 taps consisting of their popular flagships such as their Rocky Mountain Saison, along with seasonal, and one-off experimental beers.

River North Brewing Company

River North 3400 Blake St. Denver, CO

River North was the first brewery to open in RiNo in 2012 when things were first starting to wake up in this sleepy neighborhood. Initially focusing on Belgian-style beers, that’s the direction they continue with today.

Known for their funky saisons and their wonderful barrel-aged dark beers and quads, River North is the place to be when you need that full-flavored beer.

With the neighborhood finally coming to life, River North had to move out when the owner sold the entire block where they were brewing. Excited to head back to River North in 2019, they now have two locations, the one in RiNo and one on Washington Street in north Denver.

Whatever taproom you visit, just know that those beautiful dark, bold beers are waiting for you. Don’t be scared off, though. They also have damn good lighter beers, as well, such as their White, a witbier, and a Pils, just to name a couple.

Great Divide Brewing Company Barrel Bar

Great Divide Barrel Bar 1812 35th St. Denver, CO

With several locations throughout the Denver Metro area, the Great Divide Barrel Bar and Cellar is one of our favorite breweries in Denver and RiNo. It’s a perfect setting to people-watch while sipping on a dark sip-worthy beer in the winter (as we so often find ourselves doing here).

But it’s also patio worthy in summertime when soaking up the sun enjoying a pint or two of a Colette or a Titan IPA.

And with its quaint and cozy style vibe inside, as well, you can’t go wrong stopping here for any style. Especially for their well-known Yeti series. It’s the one place where we know we can find Yeti without getting lost in the woods.

Yeti? Let me help you start drooling: Cinnamon Vanilla Yeti, Horchata Yeti, Dark ‘N Stormy. You get the picture. Light or dark, whatever Great Divide creates, it’s just damn good.

Dewey Beer 3501 Delgany St. Denver, CO

Dewey Beer is one of the newest RiNo breweries. Hailing originally from Delaware, Dewey Beer has now added another brewery and taproom to RiNo, taking over what was once Mockery Brewing. Known for their fruited sours and hop-forward ales, Dewey brings unique flavors to their little corner in RiNo.

We have yet to pay them a visit. If you have, let us know. We would love to hear your thoughts on one of RiNo’s newest brewery.

Black Shirt Brewing Co and Craft Pizza Kitchen

Black Shirt Brewing 3719 Walnut St. Denver, CO

Black Shirt is simply one of those breweries that you know you’re going to come back to again and again the second you walk into their taproom. With Johnny Cash flipping you off when you walk in the door, you know these guys don’t follow the rules.

Johnny represents Black Shirt Brewing well. After all, their view is that the ones in black are the rule-breakers, the ones who create that path less traveled. Black Shirt is not just a name, it’s a philosophy. Not only do we love their philosophy, but we also love their beer and their handcrafted spent grain pizzas.

With three patios, including one of the coolest urban stages hand-built out of old pallets, you know you’ve got to pay Black Shirt a visit for some live theater and live music, beer in hand.

Blue Moon Brewing 3750 Chestnut Pl. Denver, CO

When we first walked into Blue Moon, we were pleasantly surprised. With its circular state-of-the-art bar, uniquely designed booths, beautiful patio complete with fire pits, this is a place to hang out.

You’ll find many of the traditional Blue Moon products, but alongside those, you’ll also find some creative brews that you may never expect from Blue Moon. Styles such as sours, quads, farmhouses, and much more. And the food is also quite spectacular.

BrewDog Denver 3950 Wynkoop St. Denver, CO

This is the first Denver BrewDog location. It is also BrewDog’s first franchised location. Born in Scotland out of a love for the punk attitude, the brand and beer is unique and in your face. You’ll find the classics you’ve come to expect, such as Jet Black Heart, along side 29 other taps including BrewDog brews and a few other Colorado crafts.

Located on a 10,000 square foot site, BrewDog RiNo is made for beer, food, and more importantly, community. The elevated pub fare here (and exclusive family recipe tacos) is quality made and stands out just as much as their beer.

From our first experience watching BrewDog on their TV show decades ago to stumbling across their pub in Scotland to now in Denver, we’re excited to see how this unique franchised brewery fits in with RiNo.

Left Hand Brewing Company RiNo

Left Hand RiNo 4180 Wynkoop St., #140 Denver, CO

Left Hand Brewing Company, on the other hand, is a Colorado O.G. brewer. Left Hand beer has been around since 1994, but really made its mark on craft beer brewing with its iconic breakthrough, Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout. Nitro Milk Stout was the first successful American brewer to bottle a Nitrogen beer without a widget.

The original Left Hand Brewing Company taproom is located in Longmont, Colorado, but Left Hand RiNo is located adjacent to the Mission Ballroom music venue, with the same quality and fun you’ve come to know and love from Left Hand. Even more with 40 taps, wine, cocktails, and food.

RiNo Eateries

Speaking of food, one must eat in order to drink more beer. We usually eat at the breweries we visit. Pizza at Black Shirt. Pretzels at Bierstadt. BBQ at OMF. Or at one of the many food trucks that are often parked outside or nearby breweries. Other breweries such as Brew Dog, Blue Moon, and more have full menus and offer handcrafted food that match the quality of beer you’re consuming.

RiNo eateries are plentiful here, even outside of breweries. All of you have to do is turn a corner, and you’ll find a scrumptious meal as diverse as the beer here. One of our favorites is Finn’s Manor. Which, of course, is also a beer bar, a bar, and a food truck court. You CAN have everything in RiNo.

Finn’s Manor

Finn’s Manor Address: 2927 Larimer Street Denver, CO

We did happen upon Finn’s Manor, and we are thrilled that we did so. Food trucks are becoming more and more popular all across Denver and in RiNo. They’re almost expected at every brewery and on any street corner.

Finn’s Manor has got the food truck thing happening and then some. With several choices of trucks serving up all types of food to match any palate, gourmet or simple, you’ll be able to put away some calories to keep you heading off to the next RiNo brewery. Isn’t that what food is for? Flavor, yes, but soaking up that beer so you can taste more of what you came to RiNo for in the first place.

But wait! Did I also mention this place is a bar? With 16 rotating taps, along with some of those hard-to-find beers that you’ll pay an entire paycheck to get your hands on, you’ll be quite happy eating and drinking here. A trip to RiNo is not a proper trip without a visit here. Hungry or not, walk through the doors of Finn’s Manor.

Other RiNo Places Worth a Mention

There are so many places to explore in RiNo, and we have not been to all of them. This is where your part comes into play. We are only here to guide you to a few of our favorites. You also need to explore to determine your favorites. Life would be quite bland if we only followed what others did.

The 14 Best Breweries in Denver to Visit Right Now

There's nothing like a refreshing pint in the Mile High City.

Much like the West Coast cities of Portland, Seattle, and San Diego, Denver is one of the best places to explore the bustling craft brewing scene.

According to Visit Denver , brewing in the city is nothing new. When miners and pioneers flocked to the state during the 1850s gold rush, many of these fortune seekers were also looking for some liquid gold — beer — to quench their thirst.

Adolph Coors, founder of Coors Brewing Company in Golden, Colorado, established one of the state's first breweries — but as Prohibition took over the nation, Colorado's beer scene quickly dried up, according to Visit Denver. Of course, other craft brew cities can tell a similar story.

Though brewing bounced back after Prohibition was repealed, it wasn't until the 1980s that homebrewers began taking over by starting up their own local businesses, thanks to a law passed by President Jimmy Carter in 1978 that allowed people to brew in their homes, according to the Colorado Brewers Guild .

Some of the city's first breweries, like Wynkoop Brewing Company, kicked off the microbrewing trend, making the state a "breeding ground" of quality craft brewers, according to the Colorado Brewers Guild. And today, the city hosts the Great American Beer Festival , where beer lovers can sample the nation's best craft brews.

Methodology : We decided to take a sampling of some of the best and most recommended breweries from a number of expert and user-rated sites, including RateBeer, Tripadvisor, The Beer Connoisseur, and Beervana. We also took into account breweries that have been featured in other publications and local beer forums. While the breweries listed below are not necessarily ranked, each one has a special feature, whether it's an attached restaurant, awards, honors, tours and tastings, an interesting space, or a unique method of brewing. All breweries were established or are headquartered in Denver and the Denver metropolitan area. Therefore, some beloved spots, like Left Hand Brewing Company in Longmont and New Belgium Brewing in Fort Collins, could not be included since these places are either part of other metropolitan areas or generally not considered to fall within the Denver suburbs. Here are 14 of the best breweries in Denver.

Wynkoop Brewing Company

Wynkoop is the brewery that kicked off the craft scene in Denver. It was first established in 1988 by four beer lovers, including Colorado's former governor and mayor John Hickenlooper. Though it has humble beginnings as a homey brewpub in LoDo, it's now a Denver institution that's not afraid to experiment with flavors such as gummy bears, green chiles, and Rocky Mountain oysters (yes, you read that right).

Blue Moon Brewing Company

While Blue Moon has gone on to become a nationally loved brand, it all began in Denver in 1995. This company is particularly known for brewing its signature Belgian White beer with a hint of Valencia orange. Based on a Nielsen data survey, Blue Moon has become the number one craft beer in the U.S., according to the brewery's website.

Cerebral Brewing

You don't have to think too hard to realize this brewery is one of the best. Known by its signature brain-like hop leaf logo, Cerebral Brewing is a "scientific" approach to beer. The company was started by a former doctor of physical therapy who sought out brewing as a hobby — at first, anyway. Now, the company creates tons of dynamic concoctions like a fruited sour beer, an imperial coffee stout, and an array of IPAs and sours.

Call to Arms Brewing Company

Started by brewers from Avery Brewing Company in Boulder, this relaxed and unpretentious beer company is focused on bringing good beer to good people. Perhaps it's a little old-fashioned — they typically forgo crazy flavors and experimental techniques — but Call to Arms is dedicated to local, traditional tastes in their beer and food, so it's also a sustainable company that's a neighborhood staple.

Trve Brewing Company

You better be hardcore if you want to try a brew from Trve (pronounced "true"). This company has been around since 2012, and they brew craft beers that have names like "Bloodaxe" and "Ageless Fire." Some of their beers include French farmhouse ales, oak-fermented saisons, and cultured sours — and you can wash it all down with a fried chicken sandwich thanks to their partnership with Music City Hot Chicken .

Crooked Stave

Founded in Denver in 2010, Crooked Stave has already become both a Denver and Fort Collins staple. The modern artisanal brewery takes a progressive approach to brewing, focused on creativity and sustainability first and foremost. Many of their beers are brewed with local, Colorado-grown ingredients and whole fruit.

Renegade Brewing

It's not a Colorado beer without a little rebellion. Renegade Brewing 's story began when founder Brian O'Connell was given a homebrew kit for Christmas in 2005. In 2011, the brewery served its first pint. Now that it's a household name, Renegade's creative brews — including the Redacted Rye and Endpoint Triple IPAs — are a favorite among locals.

Great Divide Brewing Company

Great Divide , which opened in 1994, is one of the older craft breweries in Denver. Now, with four locations, it's become a Colorado success story. The brewery has won more than 18 awards from the Great American Beer Festival over the years and has a barrel bar and taproom where you can enjoy their signature brews.

Dry Dock Brewing Company

Dry Dock is technically located in Aurora, but since it's considered a Denver suburb, we're including it. And Dry Dock is such an essential Colorado brewery, it would be a shame not to. Like many breweries in the state, it started with some homebrewers who wanted to turn their side hustle into a full-time business. Since opening in 2005, the company has taken home some serious awards, including silver for their Coconut Bligh's Barleywine at the Great American Beer Festival 2020.

If you're looking for Belgian-style beer, you've come to the right place. Bruz Beers ' taproom is expansive and relaxed, but their beer certainly isn't. Crafting a wide range of lagers, ales, witbiers, and other Belgian brews, Bruz has a ton of hearty, refreshing, and fairly alcoholic offerings. Try the Quadrupel ale, a local favorite.

Cerveceria Colorado

A craft brewery concept from Denver Beer Company, Cerveceria Colorado uses time-honored Mexican ingredients in their beers such as cinnamon, chiles, nopal, chocolate, mole, lime, and agave. The company's mission is to build a bridge between the diverse cultures of Colorado by opening their colorful, inclusive, and welcoming taproom.

Novel Strand Brewing Company

This company calls itself a "boutique" brewery since it focuses on small batches and an especially compact menu. The offerings include an IPA, a stout, and a witbier most of the time, which is different when compared to other Denver breweries and their mile-long menus. But this new little contender is starting slowly in order to bring the best beer possible to their customers.

The Grateful Gnome

Perhaps it's a little stereotypical for Colorado to have a Grateful Dead-themed brewery , but the locals definitely don't mind. And this brewpub isn't just a craft brewery with lots of fun and experimental beers; it's also a delicious, New Jersey-style sandwich shop with more than 40 different sandwich varieties. If you've been looking for the perfect lunch place, this is it. And yes, Dead cover bands play there sometimes.

Ratio Beerworks

This Denver microbrewery relies on a 20-barrel system that churns out eclectic beers like the Paradise Peach Hazy IPA and Major Nights Salted Sour Lime Ale. And while most come to Ratio for the beer, the '90s-inspired brewery is also known for bringing live music and art exhibits to its location in the uber-hip RiNo neighborhood.

J. Wakefield Brewing , a Star Wars-themed brewery best known for its Florida weisse-style beers, which utilize local tropical fruits, has announced it will close its doors this Fall.

In an Instagram post , the Wynwood brewery announced that, after nearly a decade of making beer, the brewery would be closing on October 27:

“It is with a heavy heart that we share some bittersweet news with all of you. After almost a decade of serving this beloved community of Wynwood, and everyone that traveled from afar to visit our taproom, we will be closing its doors. This decision has not come easily, but the ever-changing landscape of the neighborhood has presented challenges that we can no longer navigate effectively. We want to extend our deepest gratitude for all your unwavering support and loyalty over the years. Your presence and enthusiasm have been the heartbeat of our taproom and each Wakefest that we’ve hosted. We have cherished every pint, and every story told within these walls. It has been a privilege to be part of such a vibrant community.”

J. Wakefield founder Johnathan Wakefield tells Eater that the decision to close the brewery was due to a combination of a global pandemic and a changing neighborhood. We had a great business, but we should have moved out two years ago as soon as construction started,” says Wakefield, adding, “We tried to weather the storm, and it didn’t happen.”

Wakefield says that rising rents, coupled with reduced foot traffic and street closures due to construction, made it nearly impossible for people to enjoy a beer at his brewery. The brewer said that his team tried several different strategies—including closing on Mondays to save money—but the figures weren’t adding up.

Wakefield says that when he opened his taproom in early 2015, the neighborhood was at its peak of creativity. “Everyone wanted to go there. You had Panther Coffee, Gramps, and Wood Tavern. Those were neighborhood places. People would walk around. Artists would fly in from around the world just to paint a wall. Forbes called it one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world to visit.”

Wynwood was also considered the epicenter of Miami’s craft beer scene with breweries like Wynwood Brewing, Concrete Beach, and Veza Sur all thriving, says Wakefield. “There were beer tours. There was a beer bus that took people to the breweries and people pedaling on bikes. It was a totally different feel.”

Wakefield says that construction and street closures changed the neighborhood. “I think a lot of people have been tarnished by Wynwood, and the construction pushed a lot of people away,” says Wakefield.

Although Wakefield will close the taproom at the end of October, he’s already looking for a new space – and a new format for showcasing his beer. “We’re not going to do another large production facility. We’re looking for a smaller-scale production with contract brewing and a taproom with a restaurant. No more food trucks. No more pop-ups,” he says. “What we had was great at the time, but the brewery model right now calls for a permanent food component.”

Wakefield will also continue to brew and distribute many of his core beers, like El Jeffe and Hop for Teacher. “We have the branding that we built for over a decade,” he says, adding, “Frankly, since the pandemic, people also like to just drink at home or at restaurants.”

Wakefield, who planned the annual Wakefest beer festival, will also host a blowout celebration sometime in October. “We’re planning on doing a goodbye event with friends in the industry who will each bring a keg.” And the iconic Star Wars murals will be photographed and scanned for possible prints as memorabilia.

With most of the planning already in the works, there’s just one question: What happens to the giant communal table featuring a three-dimensional Han Solo trapped in carbonite? “If anyone wants a Han Solo table, just let me know. We’ve had it for five years. It’s a hell of a table.”

What to know ahead of Fort Collins' Tour de Fat bike parade, party

Time to start mulling your Tour de Fat costumes, Fort Collins.

The annual costumed bike parade — a 25-year New Belgium Brewing Co. tradition — will return to Old Town August 24, with festivities kicking off from City Park and the parade route looping around Mountain Avenue.

When does Tour de Fat start?

The parade launches at 9:30 a.m. and will travel along Mountain Avenue until 11:30 a.m. Aug. 24, according to New Belgium. Festivities will continue at New Belgium's Fort Collins brewery, 500 Linden St. Doors open at 11 a.m. and entertainment begins at noon.

What shenanigans can I get into at New Belgium after the parade?

Free post-parade entertainment includes a variety of stage acts — including music from Denver psychedelic blues rock band Shady Oaks and headliner Paul Cauthen on its main stage — lawn games, food trucks, a slow ride and dance contest and a family zone with kids activities. Dogs are not allowed at the brewery during the celebration, according to New Belgium's website.

What else should I know about Tour de Fat?

Tour de Fat is celebrating its 25th anniversary in Fort Collins. The costumed bike parade started in 1999 as a "celebration of community through bicycles and beer," according to New Belgium.

This year's theme will be, "Come as you are."

Like in years past, proceeds from beer sales at the post-parade event will go to nonprofits Bike Fort Collins, the Overland Mountain Bike Association, the Fort Collins Bike Co-op and SendTown Bike Club.

Best cities for beer lovers: See where Asheville ranks

It's no surprise that Asheville, also known as "Beer City," receives attention for its brewing scene across the nation. Food site Tasting Table became one of the latest to acknowledge the city as a beer mecca , naming Asheville the No. 1 city for beer lovers.

Launched in 2008, Tasting Table is "dedicated to serving the modern food and drink enthusiast through content that is informative, useful, and engaging." The website posts dining advice, recipes, food news and more. The website's analysis of " 15 Best US Cities for Beer Lovers in 2024 " came ahead of International Beer Day last week. The study aimed to celebrate America's craft beer culture through an exploration of cities.

"It used to be that beer lovers would visit top European beer destinations if they wanted to experience true craft brews," Tasting Table said. "But at this point, Europeans are looking at what American brewers are doing and taking inspiration."

Writers selected destinations based on scores yielded through four metrics including breweries per capita, bars per capita, beer-tasting tours offered and the average cost of a beer. Here's what they found.

Best breweries in Asheville

Asheville is the No. 1 city on Tasting Table's list. With more breweries per capita than any other city in the country and the highest overall score on the list "by a long shot," the city naturally received plenty of brewery name-drops.

First, writers mentioned that several big brands operate in the Asheville area including Anheuser-Busch. As for independent breweries , Tasting Table cited:

Tasting Table didn't just compile cities across the nation deemed best for beer; the analysis also included writers' ideas for planning a road trip full of the best overnight stops for grabbing a few craft brews.

If you're looking for a shorter trip, Pennsylvania was Tasting Table's choice. With two cities in Tasting Table's top 10, a third city in a supplementary list of runners-up and only a few hours between each city, you could turn your beer-themed getaway into a weekend trip. If you have a little more time, drive another few hours from Pennsylvania to Ohio to visit Cincinnati, Dayton or Cleveland, all within Tasting Table's top 25 destinations.

As for something slightly more adventurous, Tasting Table suggests a trip beginning in Cincinnati and extending into Portland, Maine, over a few days. In the other direction, consider some combination of Asheville, Louisville, Kentucky; Richmond, Virginia; and Knoxville and Nashville, Tennessee.

The DMV is already infatuated with ramen but a new shop from Japan is offering another version, abura soba, that includes everything but the broth. At Kajiken , chewy noodles with all the traditional toppings (chashu, soft boiled eggs, bamboo shoots, and more) are lightly coated in soy sauce, chili oil, and vinegar, making for a much lighter bowl. They even claim that soup-less ramen can include more versatile toppings, plus it’s healthier and lighter without the fatty broth (which means you can order extra noodles).

The Rockville outpost joined only five locations in the U.S. in July as the nearly 15-year-old Japanese company reaches 50 stores worldwide this year, including a two-year-old spot in Baltimore, and opens its own noodle manufacturing facility. The new Maryland shop includes different combinations of the abura soba, including vegan, Old Bay shrimp, and roasted beef versions, plus traditional rice bowls, classic soupy ramen, and appetizers like fried chicken and gyoza.

&pizza is starting a catfight with JD Vance

The irreverent D.C.-based pizza chain is sticking to its punk roots and getting political with a new promo celebrating “childless cat ladies.” The Republican vice presidential nominee is facing backlash after a resurfaced 2021 interview started recirculating online where he claimed the Democratic party was being led by “childless cat ladies.” &pizza is taking a jab at Vance by offering cat-loving guests a free cat toy with any order of pizza if they can pull up a picture of a feline friend at the Potomac Yard location in Alexandria, Virginia, and Pike + Rose location in North Bethesda, Maryland. The short-lived deal is only available today and Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Pizza lovers can also share a cat photo on social media, tagging &pizza and Vance, to win a free pie and “childless cat lady” branded T-shirt for the most creative submission.

$65,000 yacht ride offers upscale cognac, caviar tastings

Sea Table D.C. , which hosts local dining experiences on private yachts, is partnering with LOUIS XIII Cognac and Petrossian Paris to offer a luxurious 2.5-hour yacht ride where up to six guests can enjoy a tasting of limited-edition LOUIS XIII Rare Cask 42.1 and five unique, carefully sourced caviars. The pricy tour is hosted by Sea Table’s Michelin award-winning chef Troy Knapp and attendees are served by Petrossian Ambassador Sarah Zjip.

The package also includes walking away with a 700-ml. handcrafted Baccarat decanter of the limited edition cognac, along with a matching pair of crystal glasses and a serving pipette.

What goes together better than beer and tacos?

La Tingeria announced this week that a new taqueria location will be opening at Port City Brewing Company this October. The Alexandria brewery has hosted rotating food trucks for years, but this will be the first permanent restaurant onsite. The new menu will feature chef David Peña’s signature birria and chicken tinga taco, plus new items only featured at the brewery, like lamb burger sliders and Sonoran hot dogs wrapped in bacon.

Blue Moon started in 1995 when founders Kim Villar and Jim Sabia opened their doors at the Sandlot Brewing Company as a unit of Coor Brewing Company. Later, the Coor Brewing Company changed the name to Blue Moon with the unique notion that you only find great-tasting beer once in a blue moon.

The brewery focused on only four products during the early days: Pumpkin Ale, which was only available in autumn, Belgian White, Honey Blonde, and Nut Brown. However, they discontinued multiple offerings over the years to focus on their best seller, Blue Moon Belgian White, simply referred to as Blue moon. The version of the Blue Moon was Belgian witbier style which was packaged, unfiltered, and flavored with orange peels and coriander.

The Blue Moon team did low-key marketing and relied on consumer self-discovery. The Blue Moon Belgian White reached its leaps and bounds through their national distribution to become the most extensive pseudo craft beer. This popularity played a significant role in introducing America to the Belgian White ale style.

The brewery opened a state-of-the-art brewery and restaurant in RiNo district, where they brew their favorite brews and experiment on new flavors . They have over 20 rotating taps in the facility where you can enjoy a brew of your choice.

In RiNo, breweries, distilleries, bars, and restaurants are easy to come by, but wineries are another story. That’s why when Deep Root Winery opened the doors to its second tasting in the summer of 2020, and it was a great deal for wine lovers. With the new location, the winery has quadrupled its production capabilities and obtained more space for the family-owned business.

The first location, located at 1516 Wazee Street, LoDo, was opened in 2015 and started with 3 tons of grapes from California to make three wine varieties; Cabernet Franc, Petit Syrah, and old vine Zinfandel.

In 2018, they experimented with more Western Slopes grapes to make Cabernet Franc rose and Gewürztraminer. After opening a second place in RiNo, they increased their grapes to 25-30 tons, half of them coming from Colorado.

In their RiNo branch, the winery has a variety of wines on their menu and offers great discounts as a token of appreciation to their customers. In addition, you can get to enjoy some of the most delicious dishes ranging from pizza, salads to pasta.

Bigsby Folly

What Makes Bigsby Folly Great: It’s an entire production wine facility and involves people in its production process. The place is also fantastic for a date night, but you have to make a reservation to avoid missing a sitting spot. They offer a wide variety of dishes, but the experienced staff will provide valuable recommendations if you are unsure what to order.

Bigsby Folly winery opened its doors in RiNo in June 2017 after the owners’ Chad and Marla Yetka sold their Colorado home to turn the 131-year old warehouse at 3563 Wazee Street into a winery.

The couple opened the place to provide wine lovers with authenticity by including them in the wine-making process. The winery involves its customers in making their wines from crushing, mashing, blending, bottling, and labeling at a fee.

In addition, they have a 7,000 square-foot winery where customers can sit, either inside or at either of the two patios as they enjoy various dishes from the winery’s kitchen and try any of their 12-taps, seven of which are Bigsby-made.

Bigsby Folly connects with the community by participating in philanthropic events such as supporting the art community, a big part of the RiNo Art District . They are also involved in animal welfare events.

Infinite Monkey Theorem

The Infinite Monkey Theorem opened in 2008 and was named so after the famous mathematical formula that focuses on creating order out of chaotic systems. The winery sources its grapes from the Western Slope of Colorado and the High Plains of Texas, after which they produce their wine in RiNo and the East Side of Austin.

The winery strongly believes in the culture surrounding the winery, and that’s why they process their wine to express the local fruit and the people drinking the wine. In short, their wines represent the local communities of Denver and Austin.

The Block Distilling

If you’re craving a good gin or tasty whisky, then you better head to the Block Distilling at 2290 Larimer Street. The distillery, run by brothers Kraig and Kameron Weaver, opened its doors in RiNo in 2017 and started with clear spirits, including vodka and gin. Their gin and spirit are made from small-batch grain from family farms and produced in family-run operations, assuring you quality.

The distillers make their spirits intending to find the space of relation and possibility of a connection between strangers who sit in a bar drinking their favorite spirits, sharing mutual respect and common grounds.

Their wide variety of spirits have distinctive twists that make them unique to the distillery. That includes seasonal gins, which include botanical recipes representing their various seasons.

Ironton Distillery

What Makes Ironton Distillery Great: They have the best distillery taproom with a wide selection of spirits. The knowledgeable staff will cater cocktails to your liking. If you are not into hard booze, the distillery has other options available for you.

The Ironton Distillery started operating in 2017 after taking over the Ironton Studios and Gallery. Even after converting the studio into a distillery, Kallyn Peterson and Robie Adams retained the old building in its intact form, including the garden.

The distillery focuses on producing varieties of small-batch, creative spirits, including rum, whiskey, vodka, and gin. They apply traditional distilling methods in combination with an innovative new age twist.

You can visit the distillery for their gin tasting, enjoy locally inspired cocktails, or watch the distillation process. In addition, the owners have created a laid-back vibe and offer regular food trucks, outdoor games, and numerous outdoor activities, including yoga, comedy, and bluegrass music.

Entertainment, entertainment | from vintage underwear to olympics artifacts, take a rare tour of the museum of boulder’s collections warehouse, the collection was first established in the 1920s and contains more than 45,000 objects.

From the very first brew kettle from Boulder Beer Company to vintage ski equipment from Eldora Mountain Resort, the Museum of Boulder has in the past displayed objects in exhibitions that have helped bring to life the stories of Boulder’s vibrant history.

But when an exhibit is over, where do these important historical items go?

On Saturday, guests will have a rare opportunity to glimpse these objects, documents, books and images on a private tour of the Museum of Boulder’s Collections Facility, where out-of-commission museum artifacts go to rest when they’re not on display in the spotlight.

The tour will take visitors through the Museum of Boulder’s 7,000-square-foot, off-site collection facility, which contains more than 45,000 historically significant objects.

The collection was first established in the 1920s by an early iteration of the Boulder Historical Society. Over the past century, the museum has been steadily acquiring Boulder-centric objects — including Olympic sports gear, musical instruments, parking meters, underwear, carriages, quilts, chemistry sets, uniforms, weather balloons, a printing press, a horse-drawn sleigh and a kitchen sink — to name only a few.

With so many objects to gander at, Curator of Collections and Exhibits Elizabeth Nosek — flanked by a team of expert volunteers — will be on-site to highlight some of the most important artifacts in Boulder’s history, while also making sure guests don’t get lost amongst the massive collection.

“On this tour, I hope that people see the stories that can come through an object, and how objects can speak,” Nosek said. “That’s why we keep so many of these objects and use them to tell the story of Boulder and what a rich story Boulder has to tell.”

According to Nosek, one highlight of the tour will be a special showing of costumes from the famed Phyllis Plehaty collection. Plehaty was an artist, fashion designer, and expert seamstress who was also an active member of the Boulder Museum of History and served for many years as Curator of Costumes.

“Plehaty was such a treasure to both Boulder and the museum,” Nosek said. “She came to us with her expertise in fashion, and so we developed an expansive collection of dresses, coats and hats under her tenure here. Not only will guests get to see and learn about these clothes, but they’ll learn a bit about how we handle the garments to keep them safe to be viewed by generations to come.”

While the collection contains many artifacts from the past, the museum also preserves contemporary items from the present. One stop on the tour will allow guests to peek into the Boulder Strong collection, which was assembled in the wake of the King Soopers shooting in 2021 from items left for victims at the fence outside of the grocery store.

In addition to viewing the objects themselves, tourgoers will learn about the Museum’s meticulous preservation and storage process.

“With something like the Boulder Strong objects, it’s extremely important to keep them safe so that they may be around to educate future generations about the impact of this tragic event. Preservation is one of the most important things about what we do,” Nosek said.

Nosek also said that while the collection contains tens of thousands of objects, there are still a couple of items that the museum wouldn’t mind getting its hands on.

“As rich as this collection is, there are still some items that we don’t have, that would help broaden and expand our collection so that we can tell the story of Boulder more effectively,” Nosek said. “For instance, despite being home to the Colorado Buffaloes, we still don’t have a football in our collection.”

The tour will begin at Studio 6595 Art Studio in Gunbarrel, where guests can enjoy some live music, light appetizers and bubbly libations while perusing the studio’s large gallery space before heading to the collections facility.
