Founded in 2001 by Dominique Vaccaro, a passionate cruise ship and old liner enthusiast since his childhood. He was concerned that only a few web sites provided a helpful and practical search for obtaining and visualization of cruise ship deck plans and staterooms available. Those that did, usually offered very little interactivity to find the configuration and location of a stateroom. One would get lost and perhaps bored by the opening of dozens of windows searching for information.

That is why this site came into existence. To help visitors, first time or even experienced cruise customers and travel agents search and find, through an easy to use and complete interface, the stateroom that would be best for their tastes, means or requests.

When it comes time to book a cruise, what type of stateroom you want to book is sometimes one of the deciding factors in finalizing the booking. Here are the major stateroom categories offered on Carnival Cruise Line.

1. Upper/Lower Stateroom

This cabin is configured for two people cruising together. It has the same amenities as an oceanview cabin, with a little less space. Instead of two twin-size convertible beds, this cabin has one twin bed and one bunk bed or sleeper sofa. Sleeps two guests.

2. Interior Stateroom

This is one of the most affordable ways to cruise. There is no window (excellent sleeping!) and the same amenities as the other cabins. This cabin has the option of two twin beds that convert to a king. Depending on the configuration, some cabins can sleep up to three guests.

3. Porthole Stateroom

For the cruiser that wants a peek outside without the price tag of an oceanview cabin, the porthole cabin has the same amenities as an oceanview cabin, with two twin beds, convertible to a king. Sleeps up to three guests.

4. Oceanview Stateroom

You can always have a view of what’s going on outside when you book an oceanview stateroom. Oceanview staterooms come with a panoramic window, two twin beds that are convertible to a king, and some ocean view rooms even have 1.5 bathrooms. Sleeps up to four guests.

5. Balcony Stateroom

A balcony stateroom is a pricier but more scenic option when cruising. Have your own sailaway party and space with your private balcony cabin.

A more affordable option is the Cove Balcony, which is located on the lower decks and is inset from the side of the ship. Balcony staterooms can sleep up to four people.

It is one of the most expensive stateroom categories on the cruise ship. There are a variety of suite classes, from a Junior Suite, Ocean Suite, to a Grand Suite, and on the newer ships, Family Harbor Suites.

Designed with space in mind, the suites typically have an extra changing room, more square footage, a larger balcony, and VIP check-in. Depending on the category, suites can sleep up to five guests.

7. Cloud 9 Spa Suites

One of the most popular and quick-to-sell categories across the Carnival fleet. This category has larger rooms, an expanded balcony size, and a whirlpool tub in every room.

You won’t find this on every ship. Cloud 9 Spa accommodations guests have private access to the spa and are eligible for exclusive spa packages and discounts.

Right now, these rooms are only available on Carnival Breeze, Carnival Dream, Carnival Splendor, Carnival Sunshine, Carnival Magic , and soon-to-come Carnival Horizon.

All Amadeus Suites are with French balconies - floor-ceiling, sliding glass door windows. Additionally to all standard cabin amenities, Amadeus Suites have mini-bars and larger bathrooms (with shower/bathtub configuration).

Personal concierge services or morning coffee room service are not provided.

Of all passenger cabins, 56 (on decks 2-Strauss and 3-Mozart) are with floor-ceiling, sliding glass door windows.

The en-suite bathroom is next to the bed, and separated from the lounge area by a sliding glass door. Each cabin as amenities has a large 4-drawer chest, small seating / lounge area (2 armchairs, coffee table), mirrored vanity desk with chair, large wardrobe (with full-length mirror, open shelving), personal safe (in the closet), alarm clock, phone, hairdryer, robes and slippers, TV (German, French, Italian, English channels, interactive TV system, complimentary on-demand movies), individual air-conditioning.

The en-suite bathroom is next to the bed, and with sliding glass door. Oceanview Staterooms

Is upgrading to a balcony room worth it?

Many passengers plan on spending the majority of their cruise outside of their room, whether they’re pumping iron at the gym, relaxing in the spa, or suntanning out on the pool deck. It’s up to you if a balcony feels like an important feature for your stay.

Choose a Deck

Once you’ve chosen your stateroom category, you can decide what deck you want to stay on. When you book a cruise early, you’ll have a better opportunity to choose what deck of the ship you want to be on.

Some staterooms have larger verandas (typically ones on the bow or aft of the ship ) and some have partially blocked views, which may or may not be a big deal to you.

Foodies may want a stateroom closer to the many incredible dining options onboard. Returning cruisers might have a favorite bar or lounge where they become a regular during their vacation.

If you’re traveling with friends or a group, you’ll want to consider how far apart your staterooms are. Will it be harder to meet up if they’re on the opposite side of the ship? Is it better to be on a higher deck?

Each of the twelve ships in the Celebrity fleet is unique in terms of their deck designs and the way the decks are organized. Some cruisers prefer lower levels as you’re less likely to feel any rocking while the ship is in motion, but that varies from person to person.
