6 Ways to Take the First Step of Your Journey to Success Getting started is the hardest and most important part of getting from where you are to your loftiest goals.

To become the type of success you are setting out to be you have to start at the beginning, just like in the alphabet you start with the letter "A." Success is not an event, it is a process. To finish any great endeavor you must first start. This may not be the start of a new business but could simply be the start of a new idea, a new path or a new way. To be a standout success is to take each new beginning and follow it through to the end.

The success journey is the process of working through each step to arrive at the next one, with each step motivating and inspiring you to press on without fail. "Z" may look far away from the vantage point of "A" but once you master "A" you will see "Z" gleaming out on the horizon. The beginning of any process is the most creative. Let's start with "A."

1. Awareness.

Always be striving for more, always be building and expanding your career and yourself as a person, not just as a success. The more you grow yourself, the more you grow the totality of your life. Hold an image of where you are in any given area of your life, right now. Now envision where you want to be: happier, richer, more successful, fit, healthier, in love.

To get from where you are to where you want to be, become acutely aware of the choices you make each day that lead you away from your desired goals. Become conscious of every single choice you make today, so you can begin to make choices that fall in line with the direction of your dreams for tomorrow.

To win you have to begin. Map out the circumstances you need to get ahead in your life m. If you cannot find them, make them. Take initiative. If you don't see the door to your success, build the door yourself by taking actions in the direct pursuit of your goals. When you are passionate about what you want nothing will stand in the way of you getting it.

List the action steps you need to take to get to where you want to go, to do what you want to do. Make these goals as tangible as possible. One successful goal achieved will build your motivation to achieve the next goal in front of you, and so on. Will these steps all be the right ones? Maybe and maybe not. But you won't know for sure until you start moving forward. Once you start putting yourself into motion all steps taken are a gift because each right or wrong step will provide you knowledge and direction.

3. Accountable.

Few things prompt a person to follow through like accountability. You have to create ways to make yourself accountable and to push through any habits of laziness or doubtful thinking. One of the ways you can do this is to share your goals with others who can help motivate you to stay on task. When you tell others about what you intend to do, it puts a more intense pressure on you to keep working at it. Another option is to get a business coach who can request evidence of your weekly progress. Pairing up with someone acts as a living deadline to keep you moving.

Track every action that pertains to an area where you want to see progress, whether it relates to finances, health, career, or relationships. Whether you are working with someone or going at it independently write everything down, every day without fail with no excuses or exceptions. Tracking your progress and missteps is the path to building success. The process forces you to be conscious of your decisions.

4. Attraction.

Once you have become aware of the steps you must take to do what you want to do, and are taking action, and are being accountable you will begin to produce the behavior you desire. You are moving towards realizing your desires and objectives. This type of movement results in producing a very powerful side effect. You start attracting like-minded people into your life and into business ventures and ideas. The Law of Magnetism says, "who you are is who you attract."

If you want to be around growing people become a growing person. If you're committed, you attract others who are committed. If you're growing, you attract others who are growing. This puts you in a position to begin building a network of like-minded people who help each other succeed. Your greatest growth will always come as a result of finding people ahead of you who can show you the way forward.

5. Accomplishment.

Get committed. Be willing to pay for your personal growth, financially and otherwise. Be consistent. Keep your every thought, word and deed focused on accomplishment. Be creative. Visualize your desired outcomes at all times. Involve yourself in multiple forms of personal development to feel a sense of accomplishment in every tangible area of your life. Study the people in business you admire. Read their books, attend seminars, hire a business coach, see a therapist and employ a personal trainer. Try and meet with those whom you admire in person, if possible. These people and the knowledge they have are gifts to your personal growth.

Spend time each day in preparation for these meetings and interactions. Reflect upon the interactions you have with all of these people you've sought to be a part of your personal development team and be thankful for every opportunity created for your learning. There is nothing more telling to the levels of success you can achieve then possessing a teachable spirit.

6. Authority.

When you do what you want to do it will be more difficult than you ever imagined. You have to be the authority over your own emotions to make success happen. You may have had no idea how much time it would take for you to be effective. You may not have expected to have as many demands placed upon you or your life as there have been, or you may not have realized how long you would have to keep paying the price for your success. You may not have fully comprehend how much your energy level would go down as a result of your commitment.

Great successes have the deep belief that the payoff of their success will make the times of great sacrifice well worth it. When you do what you want to do it will be better than you ever imagined. The compounding return of investing in your personal growth will be astronomical. You will be blown away by how much fun you have doing what you want to do and succeeding at it. Once you are in the fun place of experiencing your success, own it and revel in it. You deserve it... then start a new journey with a new beginning starting with the letter "A" that you can nurture all the way to "Z." You grow each time you go through this process. You grow in the ideas you hold of yourself, your life and your continued success. Success… doesn't really have an end.

Working in customer service can be challenging, especially when you’re dealing with rude and demanding clients. That’s particularly true for some teens, who work these jobs for part-time money and are often bullied by adults. Perhaps that’s why people are applauding these teen girls for the way they expertly handled an over-the-top customer.

An Angry Customer

It was a tough day for employees at Keke’s Snow Balls in Texas when an angry woman approached the window. She had placed a pickup order for a snow cone and because of a shift change, the snow cone wasn’t ready. Two days later, the customer came back and demanded a refund of $6.

A girl named Victoria was working the counter and listened to the woman’s complaints. According to Inside Edition , it was immediately clear this woman didn’t want to resolve things in the right way, and was trying to pick a fight. Another employee named Kaeley overheard it all.

“I was just listening in the back and, eventually, I could just hear she’s angry the whole time. So I was like, clearly she just wants to have a problem,” Kaeley recalled to the publication. “And I’m not about that, so I was like, ‘Okay let me just go give her $6 and we can move on, move past this.’ It was $6.”

An Unexpected Turn

At that point, the situation should have been resolved. However, Kaeley noticed the sign outside the window had fallen over during the dispute. So, she opened the window to fix it. That’s when the woman came by, slapped the sign out of the 17-year-old girl’s hand, and called her a derogatory name.

“M’am, please don’t act like that. You’re a grown woman,” Kaeley responded in a video that the restaurant then posted to TikTok . “You’re a grown woman. I’m 17. Get out of here. Don’t come back. Don’t come back. We don’t need your business.”

“I was scared and very confused,” Victoria added. “I wasn’t understanding what was going on.”

A Brilliant Online Reaction

After the owner posted the video online, it went viral and many people reached out to support the girls for their perfect reaction to the customer.

“People were traveling to come and see us from hours away,” the owner, Kyle, told Inside Edition . “We had people reaching out to us on TikTok asking how to tip the girls. We even had people going and leaving Google reviews that haven’t even been to the shop, saying they’re so proud of the girls and how they dealt with it,” he continued.

Kyle explained that he posted the video to remind everyone that the employees behind the counter are people, too. Adults, in particular, should try to remember that oftentimes, these are kids working to save up for cars, school, and other big life steps.

“Mistakes happen, but for you to go up and act like that as an adult, my whole point in uploading that video is to simply remind us all that we need to treat people better,” Kyle added.

"I am proud of the way our supervisor handled the situation," he added in the initial post . "We must strive for better behavior and respect in all interactions. It’s all about just being a kind person and approaching every situation with willingness to come to a good resolution."

We Are All the Same

As Kyle himself said, mistakes happen and no one is perfect. But demanding perfection of others can be a very lonely way to live. Rather than getting upset over an honest mistake and making someone feel bad or yelling at them, lead with grace and understanding. Not only will you help someone else feel respected, but you’ll probably get a better result from the situation, too.

When life doesn’t go our way, it can be easy to overreact or blame someone else. But by remembering that mistakes happen and this too shall pass, we can all live a little more peacefully.

Many of us are in these jobs because we’re trying to provide for our families or ourselves and our futures. Going to work can be hard enough, so remember to thank those who help you in the customer service industry and to tip well when appropriate. After all, we all want to feel appreciated at work.

40-Year-Old Mother of 3 Goes From Inmate to Princeton Intern

Life can take us down unexpected and scary roads. Sometimes, we don’t know how to get off those roads and begin the climb to a better future. As this mom proved, however, anything is possible with a second chance and a little determination .

A Former Inmate

Mary McCrary is a 40-year-old mother of three who spent three years in prison. According to Good Morning America , she served time at the Debra K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center in Nashville for a parole violation following a conviction for aggravated burglary.

McCrary dropped out of high school in Grade 10 and has since successfully pursued her GED, but it wasn’t until prison that she began thinking about further education . She hit a breaking point behind bars and decided it was time to turn her life around.

“When you get to a point where you're tired and don’t even want to live and you're hopeless and you feel useless and worthless, you have a decision to make,” she told the publication.

“I made the decision to use this time to do something different, to change my life, because I didn’t want to keep doing the same things and getting in trouble and ... doing whatever I had to to survive because it gets you in the exact same place.”

So, McCrary enrolled in a coding class as part of the center’s Persevere program, an initiative aimed at helping inmates earn certifications as front-end or full-stack web developers.

“The class alone made you feel like you’re a human being, that I was working towards something, that there is a goal in sight, I am going to accomplish something, and I did,” she added. “That does give you confidence and hope.”

A Life-Changing Opportunity

For the next six months, McCrary earned her certificate in front-end coding. She decided to develop her skills even more by enrolling at Nashville State Community College, which offers a program for inmates.

This past May, McCrary was granted parole, completed her supervision, and earned extra credits toward an associate’s degree. But not even she could anticipate what would happen next: an internship at Princeton.

The nine-week program is meant for formerly incarcerated undergrad students to gain experience and new opportunities, and so far, McCrary is excelling.

“Her dedication to building her future is evident in how she does not shy away from challenges and the unknown,” Bridgett vonHoldt, an associate professor at Princeton and the head of the internship program said. “She is a role model, demonstrating for anyone who thinks such change is impossible that nothing is impossible.”

As for McCrary, she knows this is an incredible opportunity and hopes the internship is the next step toward earning her AA degree back in Nashville.

“This has been life-changing in more ways than one. This is an unbelievable, sometimes overwhelming experience,” she said. “If you look at my past, it's a crazy shamble mess, but look now, look what can happen. Nothing is ever impossible.”

Second Chances

McCrary hopes to be a role model for those who are having a hard time accepting the idea of a brighter future and so far, she certainly is. She’s a great example of how things can get better and you can change your future when you’re willing to take advantage of the opportunities you have — even if they don’t seem like opportunities at the time.

This story is also a needed reminder that everyone deserves a second chance in life and that sometimes, by allowing someone who has messed up the chance to try again, they may surprise you.

No one is perfect, and everyone stumbles. It’s not how hard we fall that truly matters in life; it's how we pick ourselves back up. But it’s also up to us whether we want to be the person who lends someone on the ground a helping hand or if we want to be the guy who just keeps on walking.

This Chinese proverb means that a person must begin his or her journey to reach their goal or destination. It is a motivational proverb that expresses deep insight about determination and avoiding procrastination. It means a first step needs if we intend to finish a task or a thought on time . In other words, this expression tells that the great things commence with simple beginnings.

This proverb also stretches across two paradoxical phrases , ‘thousand miles’ and ‘single step’ while the emphasis is on a ‘single step.’ If an initiative is taken, the rest of the venture falls into place, and the mission starts. It also means that a voyage marked as a milestone starts with a single step. This proverb applies to a wide range of different circumstances where action needs to be taken for the completion of a task. Hence, in this saying ‘journey’ means a task/action and that it does not stay limited to traveling only. However, a step is an initiative or a starting point. A ‘thousand miles’ shows the longevity of a journey, while a ‘single step’ is an initial move. “A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Step” is a saying by an ancient Chinese philosopher. The original text is “A journey of a thousand li starts beneath one’s feet.”  Here li means distance. This quote was first used in Chinese classic text; Tao Te Ching attributed to Lao Tzu, a renowned Chinese philosopher. It was probably written between the 4 th or 6 th century.

Tzu’s powerful words have always been shadowed by renowned people. American President, John F Kennedy reintroduced this quote “A Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” in 1963 about the first nuclear test ban agreement.

The title of this article is based on the words of Lao Tzu, who said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”

This is true not only for a long journey of thousands of miles but also for a short one. In this article, I am not referring to actual journeys or trips but to goals, tasks, and actions. I am referring to everything that requires you to take the first step.

Even the simple action of drinking water from the tap requires walking to the kitchen, opening the tap, and filling the glass with water. If taking the first step is essential for such a simple act of filling a glass with water, it is also vital for achieving any goal, small or big.

If you wait for things to happen, they will probably never happen. You have to take the initiative and act. You need to take the first step, and then the other steps will follow.

Take the First Step

  • Do you wish to use creative visualization and manifestation to achieve your goals and improve your life? You need to start visualizing. This is the first practical step.
  • Do you want to change a certain habit? You have to take action.
  • Are you interested in learning meditation and making it a part of your life? If so, you need to learn to meditate. Without this step, you will get nowhere.
  • Do you need a job? You have to start looking for it.
  • Do you want to be rich? You have to start making plans and carry them out.
  • Are you keen on achieving success in sports? You need to train your body.
  • Do you want to own a business? You need to take the proper steps.

Waiting and doing nothing will not create success or help you achieve your goals, tasks, or chores. You need to act. You need to move toward your goal and not wait for the right time, the right circumstances, or the right mood.

A journey of a thousand miles or one of just a short distance requires taking the first step.

Often, laziness and inner resistance prevent you from taking the first step. Once you take one step in the direction of your goal, the second step will follow. However, you have to take the first one.

'AGT' Fans Declare Richard Goodall "Deserves to Win" Season 19 After His Latest Performance

The janitor wowed the judges and audience with a rendition of Michael Bolton's "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You."

Folks first met the janitor when he auditioned in the season 19 premiere episode of AGT back in May, where judge Heidi Klum gave him a Golden Buzzer for his rendition of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'." Well, Richard left everyone in awe once again when he appeared on the August 13 episode and sang a soulful version of Michael Bolton's "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You."

Although Richard's nerves definitely showed at points in the performance, the judges (Heidi, Simon Cowell , Sofía Vergara and Howie Mandel ) and the audience couldn't help but give him a standing ovation at the end of his song. What's more, Simon voiced how impressed he was with Richard and his potential journey throughout the season.

"Well, Richard, do you now start believing in yourself? Because I really hope so," Simon said in a clip posted on YouTube . "I think you're one of the most memorable contestants we've had for a long, long time ... You nailed it, and there's somewhere to go. And if you make it through, you really do have a shot winning this whole competition."

Just like Simon, AGT fans couldn't get enough of Richard's talent — and they made sure to let him know in the YouTube comments.

"God bless! Rooting for Richard Goodall to win the whole thing," one person wrote. "A slow song straight from the heart. What an amazing voice. He is showing his range. Looks like this guy can sing anything," another remarked. "He not only sings well but he puts all his emotion into it, he is incredible. He deserves to win," a different follower added.

We'll be keeping our fingers crossed to see if Richard makes it to the next round!

Olympic champion was the only crown missing from the hurdler’s resume. But a blistering run in Paris saw him take his place on the top step of the podium.

One of the many highlights of the Paris 2024 athletics competition was watching the winning athletes ring a large bell that sat at the side of the Stade de France track .

After storming to victory in the men’s 110m hurdles, Grant Holloway struck the bell five times to signify the five world championship gold medals - three outdoor and two indoor - he has won in a career in which he has become used to being the best.

Since his first world outdoor gold at Doha 2019, Holloway has dominated his sport in a way few others could dream of.

But for all the triumphs that have made him such an imperious athlete, there was one glaring omission from his resume: Olympic gold.

That blot on his near-perfect copybook was erased in dramatic fashion in Paris as he claimed the title of Olympic champion with a spectacular run on Thursday 8 August.

And after years of hard work, commitment, and sacrifice, this shining gold meant the world to him.

“To have this gold medal around my neck, this is everything I want, you know?” Holloway said in an exclusive interview with Olympics.com in Paris.

“This is everything for the last three years I’ve been working towards and, using the world championships and the Diamond League to get me ready for this moment is fundamental to my success.”

Even the best can get better in their pursuit of perfection

It’s easy to think that an athlete like Holloway - the second-fastest ever in the 110m hurdles - might rest on his laurels.

However, the 26-year-old is in constant pursuit of perfection as he aims to continue his winning streak at major championships that stretches back to 2022, with his last big defeat at the Tokyo 2020 Games in 2021, where he was shocked in the final by Hansle Parchment and made to settle for silver.

“I’m older, wiser. and more mature, you know?” He said, reflecting on how much he’s grown since that race in Japan’s capital. “Just going forward with that, I’m looking forward to just continuing to pay out my legacy.

‘The biggest thing is you’re only as good as your next race and the last five or six majors I have done have been nothing but gold. So I just want to continue to stay on top and obviously, I know it’s never going to be easy. With the amount of great talent we have here in the 110 hurdles, I’ve just got to be able to stay on my A-game.”

Even for someone with such a stellar history in track & field, Holloway continues to analyse what he perceives to be his weaknesses and is not afraid to adapt his regime to make himself the best athlete possible.

“From Tokyo [Olympics], I had to look myself in the mirror and say, ‘Where did you falter this year?’ And the weight room was a big area where I felt like I could have been way stronger and way better, so I made some changes in there.”

However, it wasn’t just the physical side of things that Holloway made changes, it was also on the mental side of his preparations.

“I used to not travel with therapists, now everywhere I go I have three good therapists that travel with me and I have one of them at every meeting,” he said, before later adding: “The biggest thing when you get to major championships, you got to get there healthy and you got to get there happy, and everything else is going to take care of itself.”

What goals remain for an athlete who has won everything?

Holloway’s Olympic triumph saw him finally win the last gold medal missing from his glittering collection.

However, there is one more item on his athletic bucket list that would see him crowned the undisputed greatest 110m hurdler of all time: the 110m world record.

“Just the right race, the right time,” he replied when asked what it would take for him to break the world record his compatriot Aries Merritt set back in 2012. “And a little bit of luck on your side on the day [of the race].”

Holloway’s best time of 12.81 is just 0.01 seconds away from Merritt’s fastest-ever performance but, while that marginal improvement is something he is looking forward to achieving, it’s not the be-all-and-end-all for an athlete who now stands on top of the world.

“When it lines up, it’s good,” he said of the world record. “But if I can continue to run sub-13 [second] performances, even if I don’t get the world record, everybody knows I was the most consistent hurdler in my era. And that’s the main thing…

“I pay homage to Aries Merritt and all the other great hurdlers before. You’ve got Allen Johnson , one of the best hurdlers of all time, in my opinion.

“But, you know, it’s my time now.”
