Final Thoughts

winged funnel synonymous with the Carnival Cruise Line brand

Carnival Cruise Line has had a lot of dynamic changes. They scrapped many of their older ships in order to save money and focus on newer and more profitable ships after the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown.

As you can see Carnival Cruise Line builds new ships regularly with a new ship coming out almost one per year. However, Some of the newer ships are also moved from a sister brands or could even be a refurbished older vessel like we’ve seen with the Sunshine Class ships.

new carnival cruise ship 2025

Windstar Cruises Opens Bookings for New Ship Star Seeker

Windstar Cruises has opened bookings for its forthcoming ship, Star Seeker.

The 112-suite ship will spend its inaugural season sailing around the Caribbean, Alaska and Japan. It’s scheduled to debut from Málaga, Spain, on December 28, 2025.

Star Seeker is one of two new ships slated to join the Windstar fleet. The other, Star Explorer, is scheduled to debut in December 2026.

During its maiden voyage, the ship will sail across the Atlantic, with a stop in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands for New Year’s Eve. There, the ship will meet up with another member of the Windstar fleet, the Wind Star.

The cruise ends on January 13 in Miami, which is where Windstar is headquartered. A christening ceremony will be held in Miami, with a yet-to-be-announced godmother or godfather on hand to perform the ceremonial breaking of a bottle of Champagne against the hull. Windstar will also host a series of invitation-only special events and ship tours in Miami for members of the media, travel advisors, partners and shoreside Windstar staff.

Star Seeker will depart on January 15, 2026, for an 8-day christening cruise from Miami to San Juan. The voyage will stop in the Dominican Republic and the British Virgin Islands. Star Seeker will stay in the Caribbean region before traversing the Panama Canal and sailing north to Alaska.

“I’m really excited we’ll be able to sail the new Star Seeker in the Caribbean before the ship continues on to its final destinations of Alaska and Japan,” says Christopher Prelog, president of Windstar Cruises . “Star Seeker will likely not return to the Caribbean again, so it’s a wonderful but fleeting chance for our Caribbean destination fans to experience the ship. We have some celebrations planned to bring Star Seeker together with other Windstar ships in the Caribbean, like a sunset sailing parade past the pitons in St. Lucia with Wind Spirit and Star Pride. It will be a warm welcome to the fleet for our new ship.”

For the repositioning cruise from the Caribbean to Alaska, travelers have several options. They can sail from San Juan to Juneau (49 days), from Costa Rica to Juneau (25 days) or from Mexico to Juneau (17 days).

Star Seeker will stay in Alaska from May to August 2026 and will offer two main itineraries. Travelers can book 7- or 8-day “Scenic Alaska” cruises or longer 10-, 11- or 12-day “Alaskan Splendor” voyages. All of the line’s Alaska cruises will go between Vancouver, B.C., and Juneau, Alaska. Windstar also offers five-day inland tours through Denali National Park.

The cruise line will also offer its “Signature Expedition” program, which includes options such as kayaking from the watersports platform or exploring on a small RIB boat. Expedition guides will be onboard for the entire sailing; they’ll also give presentations on Alaska’s environment, history and culture.

After spending the summer in Alaska, Star Seeker will head to Japan in early September 2026. Windstar is bringing back its popular “Grand Japan” cruise, with four departures through October 2026. Travelers can also add on a three-day inland exploration of Osaka and Kyoto.

Windstar has not offered cruises in Alaska and Japan since 2023. Adding Star Seeker to the fleet has allowed Windstar to return to these regions.

Windstar is also in the process of developing itineraries in Southeast Asia.

10 hot new European cruises to take in 2025

Now’s the time to lock in a 2025 European cruise. There’s a lot to be excited about with new ships sailing in the region, new itineraries taking in unique experiences and new uncrowded ports to discover. Here’s a selection of the best itineraries to consider now before they sell out.

1. Search for the Arctic kings

Aurora expeditions.

In June Australian-owned expedition company Aurora will embark on a spectacular eight-day sailing to Norway’s Svalbard. Around-the-clock sunlight makes for more time to spot amazing wildlife on the new Spitsbergen: Realm of the Ice Bear itinerary. The round-trip from Oslo on the Greg Mortimer explores Spitsbergen, the largest island of the Svalbard archipelago, slicing through pack ice and sailing along spectacular fjords spotting walrus, bearded seals and guillemots along the way. And, of course, all eyes will be peeled for the kings of the Arctic, polar bears.

2. A new Med port

Celebrity cruises.

Celebrity Ascent, which launched this year, will take guests to explore Celebrity’s newest port in the Mediterranean in 2025. The 10-night Greece, Italy and Croatia itinerary departing Rome May 16 includes a stop at Bar in Montenegro. Here, opportunities abound for exploration, including 20 beaches, the Haj Nehaj Fortress and King Nikola’s Castle. There’s also the impressive Stara Maslina – planted more than 2000 years ago, it’s one of the world’s oldest olive trees. The cruise also stops in Olympia, Corfu, Split, Dubrovnik, Sicily and Naples before returning to Rome.

3. Fresh floral itinerary

Avalon waterways.

River cruise brand Avalon Waterways is introducing a new itinerary, The Netherlands in Bloom , in 2025. The 10-day round-trip from Amsterdam sails during the country’s peak tulip season. Take in all the colour of tulip fields and flower farms, and experience windmill and architecture tours. There’s also a visit to Antwerp in Belgium where you can explore the cathedrals (and sample crêpes) by bike with your adventure host. There are two departures in April 2025. The itinerary is just one of Avalon’s new range of longer cruises for 2025. Their “wishlist” survey of past cruisers found that guests wanted longer, more in-depth getaways.

4. A classic sailing with a new port

The popular 15-day Jewels of Europe river cruise takes in a new port next northern summer, allowing cruisers the opportunity to discover a lesser-known gem. In the town of Krems, Austria, guests can join a guided bicycle tour along the Danube passing by scenic vineyard landscapes. Also new on the itinerary is an excursion to the magnificent Göttweig Abbey in the Wachau Valley, which features the largest Baroque staircase in Austria. The journey, from Amsterdam to Budapest (or vice versa), takes in the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers.

5. The perfect combo

Crystal cruises.

Want to truly make the most of a European holiday? Crystal Cruises is introducing combination cruises to maximise every minute. Its 18-day Lisbon to Copenhagen voyage aboard the 740-guest Crystal Serenity visits eight European countries. The journey begins by taking in ports in Portugal and Spain before venturing to Bordeaux. Here the ship docks for two nights, which means there’s ample opportunity to take advantage of shore excursions such as a French cooking class at the Relais & Châteaux Michelin-starred Le Saint-James Bouliac restaurant. From there it’s onwards to Brittany, then Plymouth and Portsmouth in the UK before venturing to Belgium and the Netherlands. The cruise then sails north to Norway before arriving in Denmark’s capital. The cruise departs June 12, 2025.

6. Restaurants with a view

Australian luxury brand APT will have not one but two new European river vessels next year, and the on-board options are impressive. APT Solara and APT Ostara will each have six dining venues, a highlight being the Grüner Bar & Dining, a world-first innovation in river cruising thanks to a hydraulic system that raises the venue from Deck 3 to the upper sun deck for panoramic vistas. Both ships feature a gym and a spa offering a range of treatments. Fitness classes are also available in the lounge and on the sun deck, held by APT’s wellness host. The ships will sail the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers on various itineraries such as the 15-day Magnificent Europe.

7. Thrill then chill

Royal caribbean.

Come Euro summer 2025 there will be a freshly glowed-up girl in port. Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas is undergoing a $US100 million rejuvenation before she sets sail on European itineraries from April. On board there will be more than 35 ways to dine and drink, including at the Pesky Parrot tiki bar, and also new resort-style pools to recline by and a 10-storey dry slide. Consider experiencing it all on the five-night France and Italy cruise departing from Barcelona and taking in Provence, Florence and Rome before returning to Barcelona.

8. A Baltic return

In April, Viking will return to a fascinating Baltic Sea port. The 998-guest Viking Vela – launching in December – will sail on the 15-day Viking Homelands journey, which is scheduled to take in Tallinn, the Estonian capital, for the first time since 2021. There’s a distinct vibe of creativity and energy in this highly walkable city, and it’s all within a 10-minute stroll of the ship. The cobblestone streets of the Unesco-listed compact Old Town feature such gems as the Estonian History Museum in the medieval Great Guild Hall. The voyage, from Bergen to Stockholm (or vice versa), also includes two overnight stays in port – in Oslo and Stockholm.

9. New-ship allure

Oceania cruises.

There’s nothing like being on board a brand-new vessel in a bucket-list destination. When Oceania Cruises’ newest ship, the 1200-passenger Allura , sets sail from Trieste, Italy, on her six-day maiden voyage to Athens in mid-July, guests will be the first to join hands-on cooking lessons in The Culinary Centre and experience culinary-focused shore excursions. In Dubrovnik, for example, a shore excursion will take in an underwater wine cellar off Drače. Here, you can learn about this unusual underwater ageing process before a tasting on shore. Several eastern and western Mediterranean itineraries will also be available for Allura’s inaugural season.

10. Family-friendly France

Demand for French cruising was only going to increase after the Olympics and, as such, Tauck will redeploy its 110m MS Esprit riverboat to the River Seine in 2025. The eight-day Family Fun Along the Seine voyage running in June and July from Paris to Normandy could be the perfect way for families to savour the French mode de vie. The itinerary highlights French art as well as war history with hands-on discoveries at the D-Day Academy in Normandy. The journey begins in Paris with either a guided walking tour or a guided bicycle ride along the Seine. There’s also a Tauck exclusive: an early-opening visit to Musée Marmottan Monet.
