Amazon To Offer Students $25 Flights For The Holidays — But You Must Act Fast
Amazon Prime Student members will have a chance to score one of 3,000 tickets for a limited time, starting December 5.
- Newsletter sign up Newsletter
Amazon can’t make holiday travel any less stressful, but it could make it way less costly. At least for a few lucky people.
Starting December 5, Amazon’s student-subscription members will have a chance to book select domestic flights through booking site StudentUniverse for travel from mid-December to early January — for only $25.
The promotion is valid on one-way or round-trip flights to anywhere within the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Prime Student , the subscription program, provides a half-price Amazon Prime subscription to anyone with a valid .edu email address that is enrolled in school.
To get the deal, you’ll have to act fast by visiting the Prime Student x StudentUniverse page on December 5 starting at 6 am PST and searching for your flight. There will be a total of 3,000, $25 tickets available — 1,000 each day — from December 5-7.
After those tickets have been claimed, StudentUniverse will offer students $25 off their flights using a promotional code.
StudentUniverse CEO Steven de Blois said in a statement that the partnership furthers its mission to make travel more accessible for students.
“This partnership has now culminated into this unforgetting moment during which time we hope to spread some cheer by helping young people across the country travel home for the holidays affordably,” he said.
Prime Student free trial offer
The deal could not come at a better time for many Americans, as inflation continues to impact travel plans not just during the holidays but all year round. Some 77% of U.S. adult holiday travelers are cutting back or modifying their plans as a result of rising prices.
According to a 2020 YPulse survey, 52% of college students are Prime members, so competition is likely to be fierce come December 5. But for those who do not score the $25 deal, there are many other ways to save on travel this holiday season, whether that be by visiting one of the 10 cheapest countries , a lesser-known destination or saving your travel plans for a less busy time .

The Best Student Travel Discounts and Where to Find Them
Nicole DiCenso
Travel Smarter! Sign up for our free newsletter.
The words “broke” and “college student” practically go hand-in-hand. And if you’re a broke college student studying abroad (like me), your money challenges are likely to be even worse. How to cope? By taking advantage of the many discounts available to students both at home and overseas. Here are best student-only deals and student travel discounts on transportation, lodging, attractions, and getaways.
You can’t get anywhere without proper transportation, and flights can cost you an arm and a leg if you purchase them directly from the airlines or major OTAs (online travel agencies). Thankfully, there are websites like STA and Student Universe that offer discounted airfare just for students. Another great site to check out is Travel Cuts . This Canadian company helps you save on flights all over the world.
Still haven’t found what you’re looking for? Two more great discounted flight websites are OneTravel and Student Flights , which both offer deals and discounts on domestic and international travel.
Maybe you don’t need to fly to get where you’re going. Your next best method of transportation would be the train. Especially in Europe, trains are one of the best ways to go from country to country in a quick and easy way. As a student, you can get up to 35 percent off train travel with Eurail. Another option in Europe is Rail Europe , which offers discounted rates on passes and tickets for select trains to students between the ages of 12 and 25.
If you’re traveling in the United States, Amtrak offers a Student Advantage Card that can save you up 50 percent on clothes, food, entertainment, books, and, of course, rail fare.
RELATED: Getting the Most Out of a Rail Journey
Automobiles
Two of the best bus travel companies offering deals for students are Megabus and Eurolines , both of which provide coach-class transportation for a fraction of the cost of other bus lines.
Perhaps you’re planning to hit as many countries as you can during the course of your stay abroad? Then Busabout is the purchase for you. Busabout is a hop-on hop-off sightseeing tour bus that lets you ride as many times as you want for a one-time fee.
If you’d prefer to handle the traveling yourself, you should probably look into renting a car ( even if you’re under the age of 25 ). Just make sure you have the proper license to drive. You could also join a carpool through websites like Karzoo and Ride Finder .
Instead of paying insane amounts of money to stay in a hotel, why not spend a little less and stay at a hostel? Websites like Hostel World and Hostelling International list all of the best hostels all around the world and even offer memberships that would allow you to pay a little now to save a lot on each hostel later on.
If you’re looking for an even cheaper experience, sleep on someone’s couch for the night with the Couchsurfing.com . Of course, this section on lodging wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Airbnb . Stay in a shared or private room, or book the entire place for yourself, for usually less than what you would spend at a hotel.

Attractions
At Viator.com , you can find more than 100 sightseeing cards and passes that will save you a few dollars per each activity that the card holds. We Love Citycards has many of the same offers for cards in 21 different countries. Just feel like exploring the U.S? CityPass has discount cards for all of the major cities across the country.
Some tour companies offer weekend trips specifically geared toward students. Contiki offers hundreds of trips for anyone ages 18-35. WSA has plenty of guided weekend trips to choose from at far less than you’d pay with a standard travel agency.
If you want to travel with a group of other students, EF College Break has a handful of educational tours with plenty of free time to allow you to do your own thing, too.
Students Discount Cards
If you’re looking for discounts on everything from clothes to food to entertainment, consider purchasing a student discount card. Some of the top providers are International Student Identity Card (ISIC) , National Union of Students (NUS) Extra , International Student (ISE) , and International Youth Travel Card (IYTC) . Each of these cards costs less than $25 to purchase and offers discounts and benefits at more than 125,000 locations.

Scotrail kickstarts new semester with half-price train travel for students
Scotrail has announced the return of their half-price ticket scheme for students.
The scheme, which runs from September 5 to September 25, gives students a 50% discount on Off-Peak train tickets. The offer is valid on every Scotrail service except travel to and from Lockerbie.
Students must show a valid student ID card or other proof of student status in order to receive this offer. The tickets must be purchased from a staffed booking office or onboard – they cannot be bought online or a ticket vending machine.
The discounted tickets come as the NUS reports that 96% of students are cutting back amid the current cost of living crisis.
Their research found that most students are struggling to afford their weekly shopping, transport to university, and energy bills at the current price. A spokesperson for the NUS said: “Huge increases to the price of bills, food, and living costs coupled with soaring rent has students on the brink.
“They can’t even cover the cost of getting to the library or classes.”
ScotRail Commercial Director, Lesley Kane, said: “Our half-price promotion has proven really popular with students in the past, so weâre proud to once again do our bit to help them make the most of Freshers Week and the start of term.
“Whether students are exploring Scotland before terms starts, going to university for the first time, or heading back to campus to resume their studies, we think this offer will provide a welcome boost to their finances at a time when weâre all feeling the pinch.”
Students can benefit from the offer multiple times but it cannot be used in conjunction with railcards or concessionary discounts and refunds are not possible.

Politics latest: Ex-foreign secretary fears 'very dangerous' attack in Middle East - as troops on standby for evacuations
Downing Street says British troops are on standby to help UK nationals evacuate Lebanon amid rising tensions in the Middle East. A former foreign secretary has told Sky News he fears Iran and Israel may target each other's nuclear weapons.

One of the few domestic political stories from this morning is a prank against former prime minister Liz Truss.
She stormed off the stage from an event in Suffolk last night after a banner featuring a lettuce and the words "I crashed the economy" unfurled behind her.
The lettuce was a reference to a Daily Star livestream from shortly after her disastrous mini-budget, when the newspaper ran an experiment to see whether her premiership would outlast a vegetable.
Ms Truss was clearly "not amused" about the stunt last night, but our political correspondent Darren McCaffrey says many won't have sympathy for her.
"It does raise issues about security - this is a former PM," he says, noting neither she nor the organisers seemed to know the banner was coming.
"Many others, though, would say there's an element of truth to this, and she has to face up to the political reality of what she did in government."
Ms Truss has repeatedly denied her economic policies led to the country's economic woes.
The lettuce banner stunt was carried out by Led By Donkeys, a liberal campaign group that has gained notoriety since the Brexit years.
The Middle East has been the focus of our attention in the Politics Hub this morning, amid expectations of an Iranian attack on Israel.
Here's what you need to know:
- Downing Street has said the government is working "around the clock to plan for all scenarios" in the region, after the prime minister's call for calm with the Iranian president fell on deaf ears;
- Britons are being advised not to travel to Lebanon , and UK troops are prepared for the potential evacuation of those already there;
- A former foreign secretary, Lord Owens, has told Sky News he's concerned Israel and Iran may target each other's nuclear weapons in what would be a "very dangerous" move ;
- And the UK would likely help Israel shoot down any projectiles , ex-defence minister Tobias Ellwood told us.
- Domestically, things are very quiet as parliament remains in recess (see the key points for an explainer);
- A Treasury minister has reminded voters of "the scale of the challenge" Labour inherited after inflation rose this morning ;
- Liz Truss is still blamed by many for the country's economic woes, and she was reminded after a banner featuring a lettuce saying "I crashed the economy" was unfurled behind her at an event.
That's all for now - stay with us for any updates through the afternoon.
The UK's efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the tensions in the Middle East are continuing.
David Lammy, the foreign secretary, met with his Saudi Arabian counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah today.
In a post on social media, Mr Lammy said he and the Saudi minister agreed to "work together on shared defence, economic and security interests, including pressing for de-escalation in the region and a ceasefire and hostage release deal in Gaza".
The Saudi foreign ministry said the pair also discussed the UK-Saudi relationship, and ways to improve it.
The prime minister has cancelled his holiday as he remains on "high alert" for more potential unrest after the recent riots.
But the disorder does appear to have petered out, as perpetrators are sentenced across the country and after counter-protesters turned out in large numbers last week.
On the Sky News Daily, Niall Paterson speaks to Tawhid Islam, trustee at Liverpool Region Mosque Network, after the protests his community feared were overshadowed.

Liz Truss has stormed off stage after a banner featuring a lettuce and the words "I crashed the economy" unfurled behind her at an event.
The former prime minister was taking questions from an audience in Beccles, Suffolk, as part of her book tour on Tuesday evening when campaign group Led By Donkeys carried out the stunt.
She was saying how she thought Donald Trump would probably win the US election as "the average American is not doing well" when a banner came down from the ceiling behind her.
The vegetable pictured was a reference to a lettuce the Daily Star livestreamed, to see if it wilted before her premiership in 2022 ended.
After Ms Truss resigned just 49 days into the job, the newspaper declared the lettuce victorious.
Lord David Owens, who was foreign secretary in the 1970s under Jim Callaghan, is speaking to Sky News about the tensions in the Middle East.
One of his main concerns with the current stand-off between Israel and Iran is their indications that nuclear weapons could be targets.
Lord Owens says: "They have taken action which indicates that the next attack could be on each other's nuclear weapons - that is very dangerous.
"Therefore, this crisis is, I think - in a funny way - more dangerous than some of the obvious fights we've had before between Iran and Israel."
The experts at the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) have done some analysis on how inflation has impacted various products.
What they have found is that cheaper variants of products like pasta, butter, and milk have been harder hit than premium alternatives.
This came alongside those on lower incomes being hit harder, as food inflation was one of the highest rates of price growth.
Food accounts for a larger proportion of the budget for those with smaller spending.
The discovery, the institute calculated, added 5.6 percentage points of inflation on to those in the bottom quarter of spending, when compared to those in the top quarter.
Tao Chen, an IFS research scholar said: "Widespread 'cheapflation' pushed up the prices of the most inexpensive varieties of grocery products over the last two years.
"This hit poorer households harder."
He added: "Our research shows it's important to take account of differences in the products people buy at a very fine level to detect differences in how they are being affected by the rising cost of living."
Shadow chancellor Jeremy Hunt has responded to the announcement that inflation ticked up this morning.
He used it as an opportunity to restate his record as chancellor - before urging the government not to increase taxes.
Mr Hunt said: "Today's figures show how important it is that the new Labour government follows the path of the previous Conservative government and focus on keeping inflation low.
"In government, we took the difficult decisions to reduce inflation from 11.1% to the Bank of England's target of 2.0% â paving the way for the first interest rate cut in four years.
"However, there is clearly more to be done to keep inflation down.
"The chancellor must not use this data as an excuse to break her promises and hike up taxes. Tax rises she had planned all along."
Tobias Ellwood, the former defence minister, is speaking to Sky News about the situation in the Middle East.
Asked if he believes Iran will "retaliate" against Israel, the ex-Tory MP says Tehran has "made it very, very clear they will".
He points out Sir Keir Starmer speaking to the Iranian president was an unusual step - it was the first time a British PM has made such a call in several years.
But Iran has "dismissed" his calls for de-escalation - as well as casting aside Joe Biden's calls for restraint.
With the UK, US, France, Germany, and Italy expressing support for Israel, Mr Ellwood suggests we could see a repeat of when Iran launched missiles at Israel previously.
In that event, the RAF contributed assets to help destroy the projectiles.
"Lots of backchannel conversations I'm sure are taking place right now, but there is an anticipation that Iran will attack," he added.
