250-1836 Toyota Tacoma Complete Cruise Control Kit 2005-2021

  • Product Description

This is a complete kit for the 2005-2021 Toyota Tacoma. It is comaptible with the automatic and manual versions. The 2005-2017 manual version will require a clutch switch (250-4206 - * The 2018 does not require this part ). This kit comes with step-by-step instructions with pictures. We have included a short video below that explains how to check if your Tacoma is pre-wired, and if not, how to insert some of the wiring. We also offer an original equipment Toyota "switch knockout" so you don't have to do any cutting that the instructions below indicate. The OEM Toyota Knockout and the 250-4206 clutch switch can also be purchased separately in the "cruise parts" section.

Tacoma cruise kit

The system was easy to use install and works well. However, I feel the seller has pulled on me. If they explained that a Tacoma preset for cruise control only needs this switch and the clutch cancel switch, I could have bought everything I needed for less than $100 instead of the $300+ that I spent. The seller should explain this in their sales site. ***We apologize for that lack of clarification regarding prewired vehicles, unfortunately we have not been able to figure how to tell which vehicles are ready and which are not so the manufacturer has only made the kit this one way. We are glad that the kit is working well for you though.***

It works great, had a local shop do the install and now I can go down the freeway without total monitoring

Installed this cruise control kit on my 2012 Tacoma which was not prewired. Installation was a breeze and works like a charm! Highly recommend.

2014 Tacoma base model w/auto trans. Install 5/14/21

Posted by Unknown on 28th May 2021

Product is top quality, stem is solid and looks like factory. Instructions: 1. You get multiple instructions for given models and years but my 2014 was not listed some how they skipped 2014. So I used the the 2013 instructions. 2. The installation seem to go well until the test drive, it did not work. I did not get 12 volts from my ECM. Called them for help and talked to Mike. He was very patient and listened to what my problem was. As he was walking me thru the solution. I realized that in Figure 26 of the instructions for wiring of the ECM plug pin location, that ( Face View of plug E22 as shown in the diagram (Fig 26) meant the wire side of the plug and not the actual face of the plug. I counted my pin numbers by looking at the (Face View per instructions) when I should have counted from the wired end (Backed Side) of the plug. So with the relocation of the wire it was good to go. 3. M&R GAVE ME GREAT SUPPORT. THANKS MIKE

Installation in 2009 Tacoma w/ Manual Transmission

Posted by RPM on 20th Apr 2015

The product is of high quality and the cruise worked flawlessly on a recent road trip. My 2009 Tacoma had wiring more like the 2008, so the instructions for the 2009 were confusing and misleading. Once I started using the 2008 instructions, it all made sense. My truck even had wiring in place for the clutch switch (see 2008 instructions) so I didn't have to cut into any of the OEM wiring or add any wires except a short harness to the clutch switch connector. Installing the clutch switch was the most difficult part since it's so far up under the dashboard. Instructions for disassembly of the dashboard shrouds and airbag were well written and fairly easy to understand. The wiring instructions, not so good. I was about ready to give up and call tech support when I discovered the 2008 instructions more closely applied to my 2009 model. An automatic transmission, if the truck was pre-wired, would be much easier job than the manual transmission vehicle.

Technical assistance saved me !!

Posted by Luke on 2nd Nov 2013

Attempted to Install this item myself because all of the Toyota forums said anyone could do it. Well, I did, but not without the help of Mike in technical support. After 3 phone calls ( and a lot of patience on Mike's part ) he got me cruising. I could net be happier with the kit or the guys at M&R. Two thumbs WAY UP!!

Where are the cruise control components located?

  • Add to quote

Hi all, My cruise control works intermittently and I am wondering where the components for it (apart from the switch) are located. I have tried looking around YouTube, as well as Google. I tried searching for installation kits just to see what the parts look like. I'm not sure if it's the switch or the other electronics that may be involved. I sprayed some contact cleaner in the switch to no effect. I'm not sure what may be busted. It will work fine, but then when I try to re-engage it, the "cruise" light flashes slowly and it won't engage.

2009 toyota tacoma cruise control actuator

I'm pretty sure the switch is the control unit. People without cruise can just add the switch and then they have cruise so I think the switch has the ECU in it. But I'm not 100% on that

2009 toyota tacoma cruise control actuator

Check to see if your switch is damaged at the housing. It's connected through the steering column. Also check the wiring harness to the gas pedal. Unless that is mechanically controlled.

There's an extreme amount of wiring for cruise control system. I think more wiring length and more complexity than entire EFI system.

Here's first thread ever of cruise-control upgrade that actually worked. Lists all components needed. Unfortunately, pictures are gone. https://www.toyotanation.com/forum/...e-control-my-95-geo-prizm-toyota-corolla.html Why replace when you don't know if part is good or bad? You may end up replacing entire cruise-control system and it will won't work because there's a single wire loose. Try testing parts first to determine if they are good or indeed bad. Most likely culprit I've seen 80% of time is stalk-switch. Use voltmeter and measure contacts resistance at various positions to determine if switch is good or bad.

Link added, sorry I spaced... Look at wiring-diagram for switch. Should be central-terminal... say.. #1. Each position of switch should have that terminal connect to other terminals, 1+2, 1+3, etc. for each position. There's some that's connected all the time. Others are momentary contacts for accelerate/coast, could be 2+3 & 2+4 or some such. The actual diagram will show how switch is connected at various position. Then set voltmeter to measure resistance, touch tips of probes together to simulate a connection. Should come back with 0.00 ohms. Open circuits (no contact, infinite resistance) will read 1 typically. Also use voltmeter to test all fuses in car. Eyeballing is NOT sufficient, I've found easily 20-25% of fuses that "look OK" are really blown. Only by pulling out the fuse and measuring resistance across the legs can confirm 100% for sure it's bad or good. Some times corrosion on fuse-legs will result in intermittent action on that circuit.

I'm writing this from memory so I might miss a couple of steps. To remove the cruise control switch: - remove circular plastic screw covers on steering wheel - undo the screws on each side (Torx T30) - remove the airbag from the steering wheel (for God's sake disconnect the battery before you do this) - undo the center bolt holding on the steering wheel (19mm) - remove the wheel from the column - undo the 4 screws on the back of the wheel (phillips) - remove the metal bracing in the center of the wheel - at some point along this process you should've also disconnected the switch's electrical harness - there is one more screw holding on the switch (phillips), remove that. The cruise computer is located to the right of the glove box. How you remove the glove box without damaging it I'm not sure - I should have experimented with this on one of the cars at the yard. The only thing holding the cruise computer in is a wiring harness and a 12mm bolt. There are two components in the engine bay which are not present in non-cruise models, both near the passenger's side shock tower.

Happy ending: It was the switch. It has a little ground wire running to the steering assembly, which got disconnected from the harness. I'm not sure how it ever worked at all! I guess when I had the wheel in a particular position, it would still be connected enough to activate cruise.

Viking Moscow to St. Petersburg: Safety??

By uilleann , September 20, 2018 in River Cruising

We are looking at doing the Viking Moscow to St. Petersburg river cruise in 2020. When I checked the US State Dept. They classify Russia as a “Consider another location” due to increased terrorism against American Tourists. I would love to hear peoples thoughts as I have never been to Russia and this cruise looks like fun?

I can't answer your question specifically. I have done a similar cruise (another line) and I have done a land trip there. If I was to advise people, I would tell people to find a land company and just do St. Petersburg and Moscow. Stay downtown and not clear out where the river boats stay. I was bored with the ports between and wish I had spent more time in Moscow on the river boat (like I did when I was on the land trip.

Again, not the answer to the question you were asking. I personally would have no hesitations going back.

My sister-in-law just did the Viking trip, St, Pete to Moscow, with no problem at all. She reacted as I did -- greatly enjoyed the longer day time sailing of this itinerary, which she found relaxing and peaceful, and the ports quite interesting. (I was on another line, too, a few years ago). I've seen the State Dept. warning but think the cruise lines put a premium on the safety of their PAX and would withdraw their tours if safety was a concern, such as when river cruises on the Nile were shut down. We did a cruise there after they were reinstated and were a bit apprehensive, but we felt safe with the security provided there and had a great time as well.

We did this trip five years ago. We found St. Petersburg and Moscow extremely interesting, but we really enjoyed the ports during the cruising part of the trip. We loved sailing through the countryside and seeing the smaller towns. President Obama was actually in St. Petersburg for a summit the same time we were there, so Americans were treated fine. However, this was all only a few months before the Sochi winter olympics and Putin was on his best behavior. We all know what happened immediately following the olympics. But then we went to Egypt this past January and we're going to Cuba this coming winter, so we're not easily put off by state department warnings.

That area is generally safe. That said, there is no love lost between Russians and Americans. Most of your everyday people will be fine. You will stand out as an American, good/bad/indifferent. Most of the terrorism problems in Russia are further south than Moscow

... there is no love lost between Russians and Americans.

I don't find it to be the case.... While the governments do indeed have a hard time finding any kind of common ground to start talking, this has not - in my experience - translated into any kind of problems on a person-to-person level.

If anything, I'd encourage the OP to extend their stay on both ends of the trip, via Viking extension or otherwise and explore both cities on their own.

There aren't too many reviews of Vikings Russian River tours here on CC, but to get a general understanding of overall safety and other issues you might also want to check reviews of other cruise companies (AMA, Scenic, Uniworld, Vodohod) and aggregators (Gate 1 cruises, etc) offering the same route - the itineraries are virtually identical.

As far as State Dept warnings go - they have unfortunately become a political tool rather than a useful resourse for travelers.

AMA stopped offering cruises in Russia, reportedly because they couldn't deliver the quality of their European and other itineraries.

Very true, but past reviews should still be available - and could be helpful in overall assessment of things to expect on that route. Like I said, the itineraries are virtually the same (coincidentally, stern State Dept warnings haven't changed much over the years, either).

Would love to go to Moscow....and so I've looked at the "Waterways of the Tsars" Viking cruise quite often. When we arrived in SPB, that morning you could just feel the tension onboard the ship. Everyone just seemed keyed up and slightly nervous. NOT the usual feeling like in the Windjammer down in the Caribbean! Anyway, one of the days we went through border patrol they left my wife go right through, but I was questioned rather sternly and at length about why I'm arriving so early before my tour excursion started and what I intended to do. It was a bit uncomfortable. After a bit of jabbering in Russian among the border patrol agents, they finally let me through. Telling them that I was going to go shopping with the extra time before the excursion started seemed to win some points :)

This is because they never really tried. Ours had 2 AMA employees - the rest were Vodohod employees. It was a Vodohod cruise.

philw1776

Relax & ignore uptight fellow passengers.

Viking Ocean Day One at St Pete we go to the border officer. Stares & glowers at us for something like 2-3 minutes. Then stamps our passports forcefully and bruskly waves us thru.

Day 2 at St Pete. We arrive and are promptly waived thru right away. But no smile.

Two very elderly folks on our same tour were held up at least 15 minutes as we all waited for them. Talked to them and they were both ex-military and had worked at the Pentagon. They surmised that the Rooskies knew this and had some concerns. They were laughing and thought the entire experience was a hoot. Day 2, no problems.

Yeah...we had no problems the next day we went through.

Wings55

My sister and BIL just returned from the Viking trip from St. Pete. to Moscow. They said the onboard experience wasn't as good as on the European Longships but they thoroughly enjoyed the trip. They too reported the local people they met were a very warm and friendly.

We arrive and are promptly waived thru right away. But no smile.
Just out of pure curiosity (plus in the interest of identifying cultural differences) - why do you think a smile would be in order?

From my point of view: tourism is an economic plus for any country, so officials involved should be customer-focused.

The scowling old Babushkas monitoring in the Russian museums are apparently not in order.

Suggest you try the Sampsan from Moscow to St Petes.

There is a four seat compartment at the very front of the train, excellent service, and great views.

Very safe even for Americans !

The scowling old Babushkas monitoring in the Russian museums are apparently not in order

Indeed, wouldn't we all prefer the cheerful young babushkas!

In fact, having spent a bit of time in SPB over the summer, I have a new appreciation for the scowling old type - the only time I've seen them spring back to life, in a soccer-goalie pounce, was to stop a fellow tourist from touching the private parts of a marble statue or leaning against the tapestry-adorned wall in the Hermitage :-)

When I was a Russian History major in the late '60s there was a wonderful story from the days of Stalin about an old Babushka who used to take the subway to Red Square every morning, trudge painfully across the square to the wall of the Kremlin where the front page of Pravda was posted in a glass case, look briefly at the paper and sigh, and then trudge back to the subway. One day the guard asked, "Grandma, why don't you just buy the paper? It only costs a penny." She said, "I don't want to read all of it. I'm just looking for an obituary." The guard said, "But the obituaries aren't printed on the front page!" She answered, " This one will be."

the hard part about staying around the moscow/pullman area is that its usually all forest service, bennets, or private owned. everything ive seen growing up in moscow is they are all gated, living down in lewiston now and it seems there is quite a bit more around here to explore.
