Lee Ann Womack, is the country singer songwriter best known for her single “I Hope You Dance” which became a number one hit in the Billboard Country Chart and a top fifteen single of the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her trademark.

Womack made her debut album release on May 13th 1997, with an eponymous album. It later reached platinum status and reached number 9 on the country charts, her sophomore album “Some Things I Know” released a couple of years later reached similar success. It featured the singles “A Little Past Little Rock” and “I’ll think of a Reason Later that both reached number two on the US Country Charts.

It was when Womack struck gold with her album “I Hope You Dance” the album released on May 23rd 2000 that topped the country charts, going 3x Platinum in the US. The album featured the hit single “I Hope You Dance”, which also topped the charts, and as a single in it’s own right, was certified Platinum. Following this album, her releases were consistently chart topping with the release of the album “Something Worth Leaving Behind” which was one away from the top spot, and like it’s predecessor, reaching number 16 in the Billboard 200 chart. With some solid foundations having been laid down, the country and western singer songwriter’s effort were always present in the chart right up until her album “The Way I’m Livin” released on September 23rd 2014 on new label, Sugar Hill Records, which unfortunately didn’t quite match the stats of the “I Hope you Dance” album, but still graced the country charts making it to number 18. Her highest Billboard 200 release was for her album “There’s More Where that Came From” which made it to number 12 in the chart, and was later certified Gold.

Live reviews

Before your Taylor Swift’s and Shania Twain’s, there was Jackonsville’s finest- Lee Ann Womack waving the flag for Contemporary Country. At the start of her career, she was likened to greats such as Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette but it was Womack’s personal touch of combining contemporary pop elements with country which catapulted her into the mainstream. Her 2000 hit ‘I Hope You Dance’ with its pop sensibilities saw her successfully crossover into the mainstream. With the new millennia came new territory to conquer as Womack experimented more with the pop side of Country for her third album ‘I Hope You Dance’ which rocketed to number one in the Billboard charts, before reverting back to her signature traditional country style. With 6 studio albums, 5 Academy of Country Music Awards and having sold over 6 million albums worldwide, it’s no wonder that Womack in so highly revered within the Country realm.

As a genre synonymous with providing stories and utilising every ounce of heart and soul to deliver its powerful impact, Womack delves into themes of love and loss. The raw emotion emitted on stage, cuts straight to the core as you feel the sincerity and powerful connections evoked through the very telling lyrics. Playing in amphitheatres across the world and embraced by thousands of adoring fans as she plays hits such as: ‘Last Call’, ‘Call Me Crazy’ and ‘He Oughta Know Me By Now’, Womack shines on stage through her colourful attire and her incredible voice which is simply enchanting, taking you on a rollercoaster journey of emotions and leaving you with goosebumps.

Wearing flared jeans and a tight fitting sequined red tank top, Lee Ann Womack is looking cool standing onstage surrounded by musicians – a guitarist, violinist, percussionist, back up singers, and others. She sways gently as the song opens, then launches into a heartrending acoustic version of “I Hope You Dance”, her 2000 hit single. Her angelic voice renders the emotional lyrics even more poignant, leaving more than a few audience members in tears. Lee Ann Womack is an American country singer/songwriter. Her debut album, Lee Ann Womack, was released in 1997. She followed that with Some Things I Know in 1998 and then I Hope You Dance in 2000. Her single “I Hope You Dance”, title track for the 2000 album, was in the Top 15 Billboard Hot 100 and No.1 on the Billboard Country Chart, and is one of her most well-known songs. Between 2002 and 2011, she released seven more albums, each one a tribute to her talent and passion for music. Womack is known for her old-fashioned country music, which she sometimes combines with a more contemporary genre, such as pop. No matter what style she sings, whether she is performing at an indoor or outdoor venue, acoustic or not, Lee Ann Womack consistently gives moving, high quality performances which are not to be missed.

Lee Ann Womack, the heartbreak queen of country has cut through the male dominated genre and confidently created a career for herself on the back of her solid discography. Despite having an old fashioned approach to songwriting, she is very in tune to the modern world when it comes to performing live as she struts from side to side of the stage assuring that every single audience member is enjoying the show as much as she is.

Her personality simply radiates warmth and her tongue in cheek stage banter continues as she performs the likes of 'Twenty Years and Two Husbands Ago'. There is laughter and love at the heart of the show and the audience are so receptive to the singer/songwriter as she engages them to sway, sing and cheer throughout. She has an equally great rapport with her live band who she constantly jams with whilst playing the likes of 'The Way I'm Livin''. She ends with a stomping rendition of 'Ashes By Now' and takes her final bow whilst being soundtracked by huge rounds of applause.

Well what can I say Ms. Womack put on a great little concert. Even with the cold, she still has the pipes!

Whether it’s Some of her classic songs, and wonderful gospel song, she can still belt out the tunes.

Trust me she will get over her cold but even if she doesn’t she can still sing like an angel

Artists don’t really make albums like Lee Ann Womack’s THE LONELY, THE LONESOME AND THE GONE anymore. Albums that seem to exist separate and apart from any external pressures. Albums that possess both a profound sense of history and a clear-eyed vision for the future. Albums that transcend genres while embracing their roots. Albums that evoke a sense of place and of personality so vivid they make listeners feel more like participants in the songs than simply admirers of them.

Anybody who has paid attention to Womack for the past decade or so could see she was headed in this direction. THE LONELY, THE LONESOME AND THE GONE (ATO Records) — a breathtaking hybrid of country, soul, gospel and blues — comes from Womack’s core. “I could never shake my center of who I was,” says the East Texas native. “I’m drawn to rootsy music. It’s what moves me.”

Recorded at Houston’s historic SugarHill Recording Studios and produced by Womack’s husband and fellow Texan, Frank Liddell (fresh off a 2017 ACM Album of the Year win for Miranda Lambert’s ‘The Weight of These Wings’), THE LONELY, THE LONESOME AND THE GONE marks the culmination of a journey that began with Womack’s 2005 CMA Album of the Year ‘There’s More Where That Come From,’ moving her toward an authentic American music that celebrates her roots and adds to the canon. It also underscores the emergence of Womack’s songwriting voice: She has more writing credits among this album’s 14 tracks than on all her previous albums combined.

Womack had made the majority of her previous albums in Nashville, where the studio system is so entrenched it’s almost impossible to avoid. Seeking to free herself of that mindset, Womack says, “I wanted to get out of Nashville and tap into what deep East Texas offers musically and vibe-wise.”

So Womack and Liddell took a band to SugarHill, one of the country’s oldest continually operating studio spaces. In an earlier incarnation, the studio had given birth to George Jones’ earliest hits, as well as Roy Head’s mid-‘60s smash “Treat Her Right”; Freddy Fender’s ‘70s chart-topping crossovers “Before the Next Teardrop Falls” and “Wasted Days and Wasted Nights”; and recordings from Lightnin’ Hopkins, the Sir Douglas Quintet, the 13th Floor Elevators and Willie Nelson.

Womack found the lure of East Texas irresistible. “I love local things, and I missed local music,” she says. “I grew up in Jacksonville. It was small, so I spent a lot of time dreaming, and about getting out.” It required only a short leap of logic to view Houston, and specifically SugarHill, as the place to record.

Womack and Liddell found a perfect complement of musicians, players who clicked right away and became a one-headed band. Bassist Glenn Worf (Alan Jackson, Bob Seger, Tammy Wynette, Mark Knopfler and others), drummer Jerry Roe (numerous Nashville sessions and his band Friendship Commanders), guitarists Ethan Ballinger, Adam Wright (Alan Jackson, Solomon Burke and others), and Waylon Payne (son of singer Sammi Smith and Willie Nelson’s longtime guitarist Jody Payne) formed the SugarHill gang.  Engineer and co-producer Michael McCarthy, known for his production work with Spoon, brought vintage gear from his Austin studio and help capture a sharper sound for sessions recorded entirely to analog tape.

“I got everybody out of their comfort zone and into a new element,” says Womack. “And it was funky there. This place was not in the least bit slick. Everybody there, all they think about is making music for the love of making music. Everyone comes in with huge smiles and positive attitudes. It was much different than what we were used to.”

Womack had brought a handful of songs to record, including the gospel-inspired original “All the Trouble”; the poignant “Mama Lost Her Smile,” in which a daughter sorts through her family’s photographic history looking for clues to a long-secret sorrow; and the love-triangle conversation “Talking Behind Your Back,” which she penned with Dale Dodson and Dean Dillon, the writer of several George Strait classics. To make the final cut, Womack and the band had to be able to get to the heart of the songs and shine their light from the inside out.

A trio of long-time favorites found their way onto the album, too. Womack joined a long list of legendary voices irresistibly drawn to Harlan Howard’s “He Called Me Baby,” putting a sultry Southern groove underneath its mix of sensuality and sorrow.  On “Long Black Veil,” a tale of betrayal and closely held secrets that became a ‘50s classic as recorded by Lefty Frizzell, she taps into a ballad tradition that runs centuries deep. Womack recorded the album’s final track, a haunting version of George Jones’ “Please Take the Devil Out of Me,” standing on the same gold-star linoleum floor where Jones cut the 1959 original.

Capturing the reality of East Texas music isn’t always easy. Being in Houston and at SugarHill helped make that happen, inspiring an approach to the recording process that everyone embraced from the first note played. “Music down there —  including Houston, Beaumont, Port Arthur and all the way through Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama — is this huge melting pot,” Womack says. “I love that, and I wanted that in this record. I wanted to make sure it had a lot of soul in it, because real country music has soul, and I wanted to remind people of that.”

“When you make albums, and aren’t just going for singles, you really have to treat them with respect,” Liddell adds. “We did that at SugarHill, taking a bunch of like-minded lunatics and seeing what happened.”

In Houston — with all its history, its eccentricity, its diversity and its lack of pretense — those like-minded lunatics found a place where they could flourish.

“We all felt we weren’t going someplace just to make a record,” Womack says. “We were going someplace to make a great record.”  Don’t just take her word for it, though. Listen. And when Womack and the music take you there, you’ll find you want to stay.

As he gears up for tonight’s first concert on his Last Call: One More for the Road Tour ,  Alan Jackson  reveals good friend  Lee Ann Womack  will join him as his special guest at upcoming shows in Grand Rapids, MI (Saturday, August 24 at Van Andel Arena) and Fayetteville, AR (Saturday, September 28 at Bud Walton Arena).

The two artists have a long-established appreciation for each other. She has lent vocals to his recorded music on more than one occasion, and they have paired up onstage for a variety of memorable moments over the years…singing the George Jones-Tammy Wynette classic “Golden Ring” at a Grand Ole Opry birthday celebration for Jones…“Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” as part of an Academy of Country Music salute to Loretta Lynn…and she once joined him onstage as a surprise guest when he headlined a special concert at Carnegie Hall.

Womack, of course, is known for her signature song – the multi- award-winning international hit, “I Hope You Dance.” Her passion for music can be traced to her father, a radio DJ…but her reputation as one of country music’s most-respected voices is hers alone. She is a six-time CMA Award winner…a four-time ACM Award winner…and has earned a pair of Grammy Awards, one of them shared with no less a legend than Willie Nelson. A perennial fan favorite, Womack is a recipient of ASCAP’s Golden Note Award…an honor she has in common with Jackson.

“Some of the best times are had right at last call, and this is one last call that you don’t want to miss!”  Jackson stated early this summer when announcing his return to the road. The addition of Lee Ann Womack to his list of special guests – which is led by multi-platinum hitmaker  Chris Young  – solidifies Jackson’s intent to give concertgoers performances they will never forget.

All stops on the tour mark the last time Jackson will ever perform his more-than-30 years of hits in that city, offering  one final chance  for people  to see and hear the iconic singer-songwriter  in concert.

Additional special guests on Jackson’s  Last Call: One More for the Road Tour  will be announced in coming weeks. Singer-songwriter  James Carothers , who got his start at  AJ’s Good Time Bar (the multi-level honky-tonk Jackson owns and operates in Nashville), will also appear
