How-Chopta-Chandrashila-Looks-On-Day-2

From Sari follow the well-defined rocky trail that gradually climbs up the mountains. Keep walking on the trail and after 30 minutes, you will come across your first major viewpoint. Stop for a while and treat your eyes to alluring views of mountains and valleys. Treading further along the trail, you will come across a forest of maple and Rhododendron. If you visit during the spring, the Rhododendrons will be red and blooming, a beautiful visual treat. Another hour or so and you arrive at Deoriatal.

Deoriatal provides the perfect dreamy setting for camping. The lovely alpine lake is nestled beautifully in a mountain clearing and is surrounded on all sides by the majestic Garhwal Himalayas. Mt. Chaukhamba is the most prominent here and it casts its reflection on the lake waters, a surreal sight to behold.  Wait until morning when the mist lifts and the sun rays warm up the peaks in a golden glow. The snow-clad mountains in the backdrop with the lake taking center stage, it is the perfect place to capture some Instagram-worthy shots.

From the trail, you can spot the Chandrashila summit and below it, the Tungnath temple, which is just a speck in the mountains and you may need binoculars to spot the temple. Deoriatal is also a Green-Trail hotspot and you are going to find a lot of litter around the campsites, keep your eco bags ready to collect the garbage.

Today is the most scenic day of your trek and a treat for all nature lovers. Today’s trail is made spectacular with the Rhododendron covers that become denser and denser as you trek uphill. The Kedar dome and the Chaukhamba peaks also peek through the tree covers. You will spot two varieties of Rhododendrons here, red and pink and during the months of March and April, the trail is set ablaze in hues of crimson. The forest cover soon opens into a beautiful clearing, the Rohini Bugyal meadow which is lined with Rhododendrons on all sides.

How-Chopta-Chandrashila-Trek-Looks-On-Day-3

The trek today is moderate starting with a gradual ascent followed by a slight descent, which eases to a gradual ascent until Rohini Bugyal. From Rohini Bugyal there’s a steep descent followed by a mix of ascents and descents to Baniyakund. As the Rhododendron cover clears up, you will get clear views of Chandrashila peak in the distance, and on your right below, you can see the Sari village once again.

The trail passes through Kedarnath Sanctuary, so you may be able to spot some Himalayan Wildlife like red foxes and other small animal species and birds like Griffon Vultures, which are huge birds of prey as well as Verditer Flycatcher and Himalayan Woodpecker. Every now and then, you may also come across small shrines with prayer flags tied to them. These temples are built by the locals. Walk for 20 more minutes and you will reach a landmark temple, the Bagdwal temple and you will spot three paths branching out.

One route connects back to Sari village, another connects to Ukhimath and there’s a third descending path, which leads us to Rohini Bugyal. The Chandrashila and Kala Parvat become quite prominent from here. Walk for about 30 minutes and you will pass a small rivulet. This is your water source and you can fill your bottles here. Tread across a wooden bridge to cross the river and a small uphill climb will lead you to Rohini Bugyal.

As you climb uphill from Rohini Bugyal, the views get better and better and you will observe a series of shepherd huts lining the hills. During the summer months, the locals occupy these huts along with their livestock. The Rohini Bugyal meadows provide the perfect spot for cattle grazing. From here, crossing a few gradual ascents, you will reach Baniyakund. Further ahead, there is a motorable road that leads to Chopta, and from here take the trail on the right to reach the Baniyakund campsite, a clearing between the forests. You will stay overnight in Cottages/ Camp.

Today is the summit day and we will have an early start in the wee hours before sunrise so that we can catch the sunrise from Tungnath. The path from Chopta to Tungnath wades along a well-defined, concrete trail. The trek from Chopta to Tungnath is about 3 km and the trail entwines along meadows and forests before making way to the Tungnath temple and 1.5 km from Tungnath lies Chandrashila summit. The trail remains buried deep in snow during the winters adding to the challenge of the climb to Chandrashila from Tungnath, which is already quite steep.

The trail from Chopta to Tungnath is well-defined which makes it quite accessible but at the same time, it is a little steep with numerous scissor bends. As you make your way to the second last scissor bend, you can see the Tungnath temple on the right and the Chandrashila summit. The views start getting increasingly better from here and Tungnath Temple is just half a kilometer away. On the left is a view overlooking a valley of Birch trees, which is again a prime spot to sight bird species like Monal and Griffon Vultures.

Soon you will reach the Tungnath temple, which remains closed in winter and you will find snow until April here. The Tungnath Temple is one of the Panch Kedars and is steeped in mythology and folklore. The legend according to Mahabharata goes that the Panch Kedars was built by the Pandavas, asking for Lord Shiva’s forgiveness and atonement of their sins incurred by killing their kins in the battle of Kurukshetra. Lord Shiva appeared in a bull form and parts of the bull appeared in these five locations, where the shrines were built. Tungnath is where the limbs and chest of the bull appeared.

From Tungnath temple, the trek to the Chandrashila summit is a short but challenging one as it is pretty steep. Crampons and gaiters are a must if you are attempting this trek in the winter. Follow your trek leader's instructions to safely make it to the summit. The trail to Chandrashila starts just behind the temple complex. You ascend 600 ft from Tungnath conquering a very steep climb. Once you reach the Chandrashila Base, the Chandrashila peak becomes visible and another 30 to 45 minutes climb takes you to the summit, where you will get some epic mountain views including Mt. Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Nanda Devi, Thalaysagar, Gangotri Ranges, Kamet, Chaukhamba, Kedar Dome, Dunagiri, Jahanukut and more.

How-Chopta-Chandrashila-Trek-Looks-On-Day-4

The sunrise view from the Chandrashila summit is unlike any you will ever see and this is one of the best photo points in the Himalayas. At Chandrashila summit there is another temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, which is believed to have been built by Lord Rama for the atonement of the sin of killing Ravana. The trek back to Chopta follows the same path. Retrace your steps back to Chopta and from there you will drive back to the Baniyakund Cottages/ Camp.

In the unlikely event that TTH cancels a trek prior to the scheduled departure date:

While it is extremely rare for TTH to cancel a trek, we understand that unforeseen circumstances or natural disasters may occasionally require us to do so before the scheduled departure. These circumstances could include continuous rain or snow, thunderstorms, snowstorms, landslides, floods, earthquakes, or any other natural calamity that poses a risk to the safety of our trekkers. Additionally, unforeseeable events such as local riots, curfews, pandemics, lockdowns, government orders, or any similar situations that compromise the safety of the trekking experience may also necessitate a cancellation.

In the event of such a cancellation, TTH will provide you with a voucher equivalent to the amount you paid for the trek. This voucher can be redeemed for any of our treks within the next year, allowing you to still enjoy an adventure with us at a later date.

The issuance of a voucher is not applicable in situations where you are required to descend from the trek for any reason. The trek leader may make the decision to send you down from the trek due to factors such as insufficient fitness level, symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), high blood pressure, exceeding the designated turn-around-time, health concerns, or if you are found smoking, drinking, or violating the rules set for the trek. In such cases, the provision of a voucher does not apply.

In the rare event that TTH shifts a trek:

We would like to emphasize that weather conditions in high-altitude areas are highly unpredictable and can undergo sudden changes at any time, irrespective of the day. Additionally, circumstances beyond our control, such as natural disasters, political unrest, pandemics, and lockdowns, may impact the feasibility of conducting a trek. In cases where we are unable to proceed with an event due to such circumstances that are beyond our direct control, we will make every effort to provide you with an alternative trek that is safer and more suitable.

In such situations, we will issue a voucher to offset the cost difference between the originally scheduled trek and the alternative trek. This voucher can be redeemed at any time within one year from the date of issue. Please note that a refund fee or reimbursement of the cost difference is not applicable in these cases.

  • Change of trek batch is dependent on the availability of seats in the batch
  • In case of transferring a trek to a friend, he/she should satisfy all the mandatory requirements put forward by TTH
  • TTH holds the right to change/cancel the policies, without prior notice
  • Cash refund is applicable only in case of bookings made without using any promotional offer code or vouchers

Cash Voucher Terms:

How to choose the right trek?

Choosing the right trek for a beginner can be a bit overwhelming as there are many factors to consider such as distance, elevation gain, terrain difficulty, weather, and time of year. Here are some tips that can help you choose the right trek for a beginner:

1. Determine fitness level:  Assess the fitness level of the beginner to understand their physical capabilities. This will help you select a trek that is challenging but not too difficult.

2. Choose a well-traveled trail:  A well-traveled trail will have more amenities such as signposts, water stations, and shelter. It is also safer as there will be other hikers on the trail.

3. Consider the length of the trek:  For beginners, it is recommended to start with a shorter trek that can be completed in a day or two. This will help them get acclimatized to trekking and build their confidence.

4. Look for gradual elevation gain:  Choose a trek with a gradual elevation gain rather than steep ascents. This will make the trek easier and more enjoyable.

5. Check the weather:  Check the weather forecast before selecting a trek. Avoid treks during the monsoon season or winter when the trails can be slippery or dangerous.

6. Research the trail:  Read about the trail to get an idea of the terrain, altitude, and difficulty level. This will help you select a trek that is suitable for the beginner.

7. Consult with an expert:  If you are unsure about which trek to choose, consult our trek expert Mr. Nitin (+91 70600 59773) between 10 AM to 6 PM (Tuesday - Friday). Mr. Nitin will provide you valuable advice and guidance.

Overall, it is important to choose a trek that is enjoyable, challenging but not too difficult, and suitable for the beginner's fitness level and experience.

Can a beginner choose a tough trek?

It is not recommended for a beginner to choose a difficult Himalayan trek. Trekking in the Himalayas can be physically and mentally challenging, especially if you are not used to the high altitude, steep slopes, and rugged terrain. Choosing a difficult trek without the proper experience, fitness level, and preparation can be dangerous and put you at risk of altitude sickness, injury, and other hazards.

If you are a beginner, it is recommended to start with an easier trek and gradually build up your skills and experience. This will help you understand the challenges of trekking in the Himalayas, and also prepare you physically and mentally for a more difficult trek in the future. It is also important to choose a trek that matches your fitness level, experience, and interest.

Layer Up From Head To Toe Eat Full Meals, never sleep empty stomach You can keep warmee (if you’re more susceptible to cold). Use sleeping bag in right way and don’t leave free space in sleeping bag.

For upper body – Thermal layer – T-shirt (full-sleeves) – Fleece T-shirt (for extreme colds) – Fleece layer – Thick Jacket/Down Jacket – Waterproof or Windproof layer (outermost layer, when it is snowing or raining) - For Lower Body – Thermal layer – Hiking pants (normal) or Winter hiking pants

If climbing the summit of a mountain, enjoying the beauty of a high-altitude lake, and witnessing most of the highest Himalayan peaks are on your bucket list, then you should definitely start preparing and packing for the Chopta Chandrashila Deoria Tal Lake. This trek will enable you to behold the captivating beauty of the spectacular Deoria Tal, situated at the height of 2438 meters and nestled within lush, green pastures, rhododendron forests and snow-clad mountain systems. The Chaukhamba Massif starts from the edges of the Deoria Tal, and Mount Chaukhamba, at 7138 meters, is a sight to behold! From the Chandrashila summit, you will get a bewildering view of all the highest peaks of the Greater Himalayas- Jaunli, Mt. Thalay Sagar, Mt. Jogin, Mt. Nanda Devi, Mt. Trishul, Mt. Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhamba I, II, III, IV, Kedarnath and Kedar Dome, Sumeru Parbat, Mandani Parbat, etc. Apart from all these obvious offerings, you have the chance to encounter several bird species and record their enchanting beauty with your cameras.

What are the important considerations for Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek?

Though the Chopta Chandrashila Deoria Tal Trek is a high-altitude one, it remains open for hikers for almost six months and more. The pre-monsoon/spring season-spanning mid-March to April is preferred by hikers since the snow starts receding and the pastures, thickets, and rhododendron woods start bearing bright colors of spring! The next exciting season to trek the Chandrashila Deoria Tal region is post-monsoon/autumn that spans from late September to early December. The skies are cleared of the monsoon haze and the rain-bearing clouds, and you can get the most amazing views of nature. It is the best time for photographers and photography enthusiasts because the clear blue skies and the pleasant weather conditions make it favorable for you to capture the best photographs of the Himalayan peaks and the wildlife. But one of the best parts about the Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek is that you can embark on this adventure during the winter season as well! You can plan your experience during the onset of December when it just starts snowing, and the snow cover is not too thick to block the trail. On the other hand, you should not try to embark on this journey during the peak winter months of January because the area receives massive snowfall and is often cut out from the rest of the state. Driving becomes challenging as the roads are highly susceptible to verglas. The trek is ideal for small groups. Follow your guide's instructions, be respectful towards the local culture, and embrace the beauty of nature and wildlife. This crossover trail through the forest is relatively easy and suited for beginners and amateur hikers without prior high-altitude adventure experience. If you plan your travel with a tour operator or an agency, you need not worry about campsites and accommodations. But if you are traveling in a small group, you can rent the camping and trekking equipment with some additional expenses. Besides, if you consider offloading, you can hire a porter at just USD 8 (INR 600) or less per day to carry personal belongings on the trek, not weighing more than 10 kgs. People with heart diseases and breathing issues are not advised to take part in this trek. Since this trek is graded easy to moderate, you can just maintain adequate physical and mental fitness and embark on the journey. The terrain is not so challenging, but the elevation is quite high, starting from the Deoria Tal lake at 2438 meters to the Chandrashila Peak at 3690 meters. The trek distance is 30 kilometers and can be covered in approximately five days. Your gear guide and checklist should contain warm clothes like thermal inners, extra pairs of socks and underwear, quick-dry hiking pants, fleece jacket, woollen sweaters, a heavy down jacket, poncho, balaclava, suncap, sunglasses, synthetic and woollen gloves, etc. Apart from these, your trekking essentials should contain a backpack and daypack with rain cover, sturdy hiking boots, well-made walking sticks, toiletries like biodegradable soaps, excess toilet paper, and wet wipes sunscreen, lip balm, moisturizer, quick-dry towels, etc. Carry your own water bottles to avoid littering the Himalayas with disposable plastic.

Have you ever wondered how it feels to be on top of the world and witness all the major peaks in all their glory? Even if you are a beginner who is just trying out his hand at high-altitude expeditions, you can embark on a particular adventure set in the Himalayas that will bring you face-to-face with such a feeling.

Uttarakhand is indeed a treasure trove when it comes to high-altitude adventures. There are countless adventures, each unique in its own way. The Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek , which can be considered one of a kind, offers an unforeseen vista full of mountainous wonders. To the seasoned explorer, this incredible summit climb with its flurry of picturesque views is a reason to return to the Chopta Chandrashila Deoria Tal Trek time and again. To the uninitiated, this adventure holds a tremendous allure and all the unexplored wonders of the world, which will beckon them to embark on this journey of a lifetime.

Without much ado, let us start learning about the highly-rewarding Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek .

The spectacular panorama of Himalayan peaks:

After summiting the Chandrashila (3690 meters), every trekker is greeted with a rich vista that contains some of the mightiest peaks of the Himalayan ranges. The captivating views of the peaks across eastern and western Uttarakhand are meant to blow every adventurer’s mind away!

From the Chandrashila summit, the spectacular sight of all the seven-thousanders is distinctly visible. Starting from Mount Chaukhamba I, II, III, IV, Mount Kedarnath and Kedar Dome, Mount Nanda Devi, Mount Jogin, Mount Thalaysagar, Mount Trishul, Mount Nanda Ghunti, Mandani Parbat, Bhagirathi I, to Mount Jaunli, Sumeru Parbat, Dronagiri, Hathi-Ghodi - every mighty Himalayan peak steeped in the ancient Indian mythology appears before your eyes.

This sight is naturally a bit too much for people attempting the Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek for the first time in their lives. Witnessing all these peaks at once from a great vantage point is indeed an experience to cherish for a lifetime. The view all-around is tailor-made for dedicated shutterbugs, yet they can never have enough of this visual splendor.

The trail speckled with fantastic flora and fauna:

Your eyes will never be tired when treated to a feast of floral extravaganza on the Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek. Akin to the Goechala Trek, the Deoria Tal Trek has a trail bathed in red, scarlet, and pink hues. Rhododendrons bloom in vivid colors and cover the trail with their vibrance throughout spring. The sheer density of rhododendrons renders parts near Chopta totally red, and these striking features are missing in other treks of Uttarakhand.

Springtime and the chirping of birds are a couple of things that characterize the trail of the Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek. Considered one of the best Himalayan treks for bird watching, the trail features at least 30 to 40 avian species.

The thick forests of oak, pine, and maple in the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary make it one of the most ideal locations for birds to thrive in abundance. Hence, you will spot diverse avian species like the Himalayan Monal, the Himalayan Woodpecker, Snow Partridge, Ashy-throated Warbler, Bar-throated Siva, Bar-tailed Treecreeper, Alpine Accentor, Black-headed Jay, Black-crested Tit, Black Bulbul, and several others.

A fusion pot of natural splendors:

The Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek is a fusion pot of every natural splendor that you can expect to encounter in the Himalayas. From moss-covered forestry trails through the Kedarnath Musk Deer Sanctuary to finding the clearings in the middle of these thickets to camp for the night, the course offers a myriad of experiences.

Devaria Tal or Deoria Tal is a pristine lake situated at the height of 2438 meters which blesses the tourists with fantastic reflections of the Chaukhamba Massif, which towers from the shores of the emerald-watered lake. You can also discover local settlements and colorful pastures while on your way to the Chandrashila summit. All in all, the trek boasts of a bustling ecosystem amid a rich landscape.

    Cultural significance of the trek:

The Chopta Chandrashila Deoriatal Trek is full of popular activities like trekking, bird watching, camping, etc. However, village tourism has evolved tremendously as a popular activity on this trek. Sari village is the last village inhabited by local settlers before the trek starts. Curious tourists walk around the village and interact with the locals to learn about their customs, culture, and way of life. Since the people are warm and hospitable, you can quell your thirst to learn about the ancient Himalayan culture that has shaped the lives of local tribes such as these.

Overview of the Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek:

The Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek is entirely located within the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttarakhand. Almost 975 sq km of forest cover of the Kedarnath Musk Deer Sanctuary covers the entire trail. The starting point of the trek is Sari village, located 12 km from Ukhimath town in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand.

    Chopta Chandrashila Deoriatal Trek cost:

The Chopta Chandrashila Deoriatal Trek cost varies between USD 100- 127 (INR 7500-9500) per head. However, the trek cost is likely to change slightly depending on the trekking agency or tour operator with whom you are signing up for the adventure. Ideally, the cost includes the cost of the accommodations during the trek, meals, cost of required permits and entry fees, cost of the porter and mules for carrying your luggage, charges of the professional trek leader/guide, etc.

However, if you are traveling with a small group all by yourselves, renting the camping and trekking equipment will be the wisest decision to make, provided you do not own them already. You can even hire a porter at USD 8 (INR 600) per day to carry your personal belongings, not weighing more than 10 kgs.

Cell phone network and ATM options:

The Chopta Chandrashila Deoriatal Trek entirely takes place within the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary. Hence, it is impossible to get cell phone connectivity at any point on the trail. However, weak signals of BSNL and Airtel are available at Sari village, the last village that marks the starting point of the trek to Deoria Tal and Chandrashila peak. So it is advised that you should finish your important phone calls at this village before you set foot on the actual trail.

The last working ATM is available at Ukhimath - a town in the Rudraprayag district, approximately 12 km from the Sari village. So you should withdraw sufficient cash from this point as most of the transactions during your trek will happen via cash only.

How difficult is the Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek?

The Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek is graded easy to moderate by experienced trekkers and high-altitude adventurers. Hence, a beginner can undertake the trek if they have sufficient guidance and are appreciably fit.

Although primarily easy, certain portions within the trek amp up the challenges and give it the tag of a moderately difficult trek. The trek starts at 2438 meters and ends atop the Chandrashila summit at 3690 meters. The high altitude increases the difficulty level and makes it essential to follow a fitness regime before you embark on the trek.

Apart from the high altitude, the trek distance on particular days could seem long and exhausting if you are not appreciably fit. Although the total trek distance is just 30 km, you have to cover 8-10 km on certain days, and it elevates the risk.

Apart from this, the summit day is challenging during the winter months of December to February. During this time, you will find a lot of snow on the trail from Tungnath to Chandrashila, and you should be extremely careful while climbing to the Chandrashila Top.

Best time to visit the Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek:

The Chopta Chandrashila Deoriatal Trek remains open to trekkers and adventure enthusiasts for more than six months each year. The entire trail is adorned in various hues depending on the seasons, and those with a passion for photography should choose according to their preference of aesthetics.

    Spring (mid-March to mid-April)

Spring or pre-monsoon is one of the most popular times to embark on the Deoriatal Trek. This season spans from mid-March to mid-April and is characterized by receding snow and blooming rhododendrons that color the entire trail pink, red and scarlet.

Autumn (late September to early December)

Post-monsoon or Autumn is one of the best seasons to set foot on this enchanting trail. Since the skies are clear and there is no sign of monsoon haze or rain-bearing clouds, you can get superb natural views. This period from late September to the end of November features clear blue skies and pleasant weather conditions. Hence, it is the best time for shutterbugs to capture the natural splendor, a panorama of Himalayan peaks, and vibrant wildlife on this trail.

    Winter (early December)

Although the Chopta Chandrashila Deoriatal Trek is accessible during winter and counted as one of India’s best winter solo treks, it is not advisable to set foot on the trail during peak winter. The peak winter month of January is characterized by heavy snowfall, which often breaks off the connection of this region with the rest of Uttarakhand. Since the roads are highly susceptible to verglas, driving becomes challenging during this season, reducing transportation options.

However, you can definitely aim to complete this adventure successfully if you are traveling just before the onset of December or during the start of December. The snow is just enough to give you the festive, Christmas-y feeling but not enough to block the trail.

Gear guide and checklist for the trek to Deoriatal Chandrashila:

Although you should pack exhaustively for the Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek to prepare for every eventuality, the trick to packing is similar to that of every other high-altitude Himalayan trek. You should pack lightly, or it could significantly mar the delight of your trek if you are unable to procure any offloading options or porters and mules.

Your apparel should be adequate to protect you against unprecedented and extreme weather conditions while you are en route. However, you should also emphasize being comfy on the trek. Your apparel should be ideal for balancing the above scenarios.

Carry two full-sleeve, non-cotton t-shirts, one fleece t-shirt, a woolen sweater or a fleece jacket, a down feather jacket, wind and waterproof jacket, thermal inners for both the halves, two synthetic trek pants, a waterproof pant cover, copious amounts of underwear, and a poncho for protection against unexpected downpours. Keep a pair of waterproof gloves and another pair of fleece/woolen gloves handy.

When it comes to headgear, your priority should be protecting your face and head against wind chills as well as preventing snow-blindness. UV-protected sunglasses, a sun cap, a woolen cap, a balaclava, and a neck gaiter or woolen muffler should comprise your headgear essentials.

You should always mind your step while on the trail. The mountainous topography is highly different from plain lands, and hence there could be a risk of injury if you are not careful. Additionally, you should emphasize your footwear as protecting your feet and preventing any damage, shock, or stress will ensure a satisfactory trekking experience.

Focus on buying a pair of superlative trekking shoes. Notice minute details like waterproof features, good grip, and a high ankle. Remember that you will have a pretty exhausting summit climb to the Chandrashila Top. If it is during winter, the trail will be covered with a lot of snow. Therefore, you should choose trekking shoes with microspikes that will help you tread easily over the snow.

Carrying a pair of flip-flops is optional. However, you should take at least three pairs of woolen socks and five pairs of cotton socks. You can also kit up with a gaiter to prevent the entry of pebbles and rocks inside your shoes.

    Basic trekking gear:

Carry a backpack (50-60 liters) with a rain cover and comfortable shoulder straps. If you consider offloading or hiring a porter and a mule, you should carry a daypack (20-30 liter) with rain cover. You can carry a sleeping bag to prevent heat loss from your body while asleep at night in frigid cold conditions. If you are traveling all by yourself, consider carrying the camping equipment too.

    Other accessories:

Carry a sturdy, well-made walking stick, a head torch with extra batteries, a power bank, charger, a couple of one-liter water bottles or a hydration pack, etc. Carry a few old newspapers and a zip-lock pouch to protect your electronic gadgets during rainfall and carry disposable items back with you. Consider carrying dry fruits and nuts, energy bars, and ORS as snacks that will give you instant energy during the hikes and climbs.

    Toiletries and hygiene essentials:

Maintaining personal hygiene becomes highly important when you are part of a high-altitude adventure like the Chopta Chandrashila Deoriatal Trek.

Carry toothpaste, toothbrush, moisturizer, sunscreen, lip balm, biodegradable soap, hand sanitizer, antibacterial powder, toilet paper, tissue roll, wet wipes, and a quick-dry towel. Women should be careful of their menstrual hygiene and carry sanitary napkins or tampons, or menstrual cups. However, a zip lock pouch to collect and store all the menstrual hygiene products to dispose of them later is required.

    First-aid and personal medications:

Your first-aid kit should contain everything to offer primary treatment if any unprecedented event, injury, or accident occurs. It should be well-stocked with bandaids, ointments, pain-relieving sprays, crepe bandages, gauze swabs, cotton, betadine, antiseptic liquid, etc.

Carry insect repellents because you will be camping in open space within forests. Also, carry water purification tablets if you are desperate to drink water from any natural source.

Your medical kit should contain antihistamines, paracetamols, antacids, anti-nausea medicines, painkillers, etc.

    Essential documents:

If you are an Indian national traveling with a trekking agency or a tour operator, your forest and sanctuary permits will be covered within the trek package. Carry original and multiple photocopies of government-issued photo ID cards and address proof. Also, carry multiple copies of your passport-sized photograph. A foreign national should always keep their passports and visas within reach.

    Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek Itinerary:

The Chopta Chandrashila Deoriatal Trek covers a distance of nearly 30 km and stretches for 5-6 days. However, you can throw in an extra day if you want to camp in the wilderness and explore nature’s glory. Follow the itinerary we have recommended below for your ease.

    • Day 1: Rishikesh is the nearest hub for the Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek. Aboard a cab from Rishikesh to reach Sari village - the basecamp for the trek. The 190 km distance is ideally covered within 7-8 hours. So, if you are starting early, you can reach Sari by late afternoon/early evening. Sari is the last point for cell phone connectivity so finish all your important calls here.
    • Day 2: You start the actual trek by leaving Sari (2000 meters) for Deoria Tal (2438 meters). The trek distance is roughly 3 km and takes nearly 2 hours for you to cover the altitude gain of almost 350-365 meters. You can navigate the trail mixed with ascents and descents and reach Deoria Tal by afternoon if you have started early. Once you have reached there, you can witness the Chaukhamba Massif in all its glory, reflected on the emerald waters of the lake on clear days. Camp at the lakeside and explore the nearby forests for beautiful wildlife.
    • Day 3: It is one of the most intensive days of this trail. Wake up early to start the day’s journey from Deoria Tal. The trek to Baniyakund (2610 meters) covers a distance of 16 km and takes 7-8 hours. The trail passes through thickets and then a flurry of small shrines. You first ascend to reach a level land and then go downhill to reach the pastures of Rohini Bugyal. After crossing the pasture, you will come across Chopta village (2608 meters), which can be your resting place for the night. Alternatively, you can set up camp at Baniyakund.
    • Day 4: If you stay at Baniyakund, this day will start quite early with you driving for about 3 km to reach Chopta village. From Chopta, you will start on a well-defined concrete bound trail to reach Tungnath (3680 meters). However, the course starts becoming difficult as you take the route behind the Tungnath temple complex as it remains blocked by snow if you are traveling in winter. You need to equip yourself with gaiters and crampons while clearing the route with the help of an ice ax. Once you reach the Chandrashila summit (3690 meters), you will be greeted with an awe-inspiring view of several well-known peaks of the Garhwal and Kumaon Himalayas. It is a sight to behold. You can stay here for some time and soak in the experience. After you are done, you need to descend from Chandrashila Top to reach the Baniyakund campsite. The downhill climb is easy and less time-consuming, as it takes only 3 hours.
    • Day 5: You can start the day by tracking back to Chopta village. From the Chopta road head, you can catch a cab and reach Rishikesh by evening.

Getting fit for the Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek:

Although the Chopta Chandrashila Deoriatal Trek is classified as an easy-moderate trek and can be undertaken by beginners, you need to keep yourself in an appreciably good physical condition to complete this trek successfully. The climb to Chandrashila summit is highly taxing and more so during winters.

Therefore, you should spend adequate time building cardiovascular endurance. Start with jogging, running, cycling, swimming, etc., and you can build cardiovascular endurance effectively. Stretching your muscles will help enhance your flexibility, while squats will ensure core and lower body strength.

In addition to your physical fitness, try building your mental fortitude by meditating regularly and practicing holistic therapies like yoga. It will help you stay focused, sharp-witted, and clear-headed throughout the trek and prevent unforeseen circumstances.

Tungnath Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek Itinerary and details (FAQs answered)

    Treks & hikes , Uttarakhand

Last Updated on: Aug 22, 2019

About this blog: We always wanted to visit the Panch Kedars and Tungnath was the first one we explored. Along with it, we also did Deoriatal Chandrashila trek. This blog will give you all the details about the trek, how to reach and other important tips and guides.

One of them is the highest of the Panch Kedars while the other has an interesting story surrounding it. I am talking about the Tungnath Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek in Uttarakhand . While Tungnath is one of the Panch (five) Kedars , Deoriatal Chandrashila trek undoubtedly offers one of the best views of the Uttarakhand mountain ranges. From the Chandrashila summit, you get a stunning view of almost all the major summits of eastern and western Uttarakhand.

Did we tell you, that this is one of the easiest treks from where you can see all the ranges so close?

    Tungnath Chandrashila trek

While the Tungnath Chandrashila trek starts from Chopta, a beautiful destination in Uttarakhand, the Deoriatal trek starts from Sari village. Both these treks are usually done together. We have already mentioned the importance of Tungnath of being one of the five Kedars. Deoriatal, on the other hand, is known for the lake at the backdrop of the mighty Himalayan ranges.

    The legend of Tungnath

What is so special about Tunganath? The fact, that it has the highest temple of Lord Shiva at a height of 3680m. Or the fact that it offers a completely stunning, mesmerizing panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges. It might also be the fascinating legend behind the Tungnath shrine. Whatever be it, we urge you to read about the story behind Tungnath. It will help you to understand and appreciate the place and the people who you might see on the way to Tungnath trek a tad bit better.

    Tungnath Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek

The legend of Tunganath is very intimately related to the Hindu epic Mahabharata. Mahabharata tells the greatest political saga of all times where two families Pandavas and Kauravas fight against each other for the kingdom. After the 18 days war at Kurukshetra, the Pandavas won the battle after killing all their 100 Kaurava brothers and their relatives.

After winning the war, the Pandavas were grieved at this mass killing and were repentant of their action. After all, they were their brothers and relatives that they had killed in the war! So they went for Narada’s advice who asked them to ask for forgiveness from Lord Shiva. Only the master of the universe will be able to absolve them of their sins. On the other hand, Narada went and informed Lord Shiva that the Pandavas were seeking him for forgiveness.

    cairns and sunrise from Chandrashila

Lord Shiva was convinced of the sins of the Pandavas and did not think appropriate to exonerate the Pandavas of their sins. Neither did he want to face the Pandavas. So he took the form of a bull and hid at Guptakashi, the underground heaven. Narada, in the meanwhile, informed the Pandavas of the whereabouts of Lord Shiva. The Pandavas went in search of the Lord. After a long search, the Pandavas met a Bull on their way. The Bull was disguised Lord Shiva and he tried to hide from them. Bhima, the strongest of the Pandava brothers chased the bull.

The bull later rematerialized at five different parts and these places later came to be known as Panch Kedars . Different parts of the bull rose at different locations – the hump at Kedarnath, the limbs at Tunganath, the navel and stomach surfaced at Madamaheshwar, the face at Rudranath and the hairs at Kalpeshwar. It is believed that the Pandavas had built temples at all the five locations and were finally freed of their sins. It is also believed that the front portion of the bull fell at Pashupatinath in Nepal.

    Tungnath Temple

The Tungnath Temple is a small temple built on the Chandranath Parbat in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Located just below the Chandrashila peak, it is said to be one of the highest temples of Lord Shiva at an altitude of 12073 feet or 3680m. The temple is built in the traditional north India architecture style. There are a number of shrines surrounding the temple and at the entrance, you will find an idol of Lord Ganesh.

    Ganesh idol at Tungnath Temple

In the main sanctum, ashtadhatu (made of eight metals) idols of sage Vyas and Kaal Bhairav (demi-god) are placed. The temple also houses the images of the Pandavas and silver plaques of other four Kedar shrines. An idol of Adi Guru Shankaracharya is placed near the idol of Shiva. The temple remains closed during the winters and during that time the deity along with the temple priests are moved to Mukumath, 19 km from Tunganath. The journey dates of the deity from Mukumath to the temple and back is decided by the priests and is done with much reverence by the locals.

Stories and legend about Chandrashila or moon rock

    Sunrise at Chandrashila

Chandrashilais the summit of the Chandranath Parbat on which the Tunganath Temple is situated. As we said earlier there is no dearth of stories in the Himalayan region. Legend has it that the Moon God Chandra spent time here in penance.

Did you know that Chandrashila literally means the moon rock?

Another legend says that Lord Rama meditated here at the Chandrashila summit after defeating the demon king Ravana. Whatever be the legend behind the place, Chandrashila peak offers stunning panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges of Chaukhamba, Trishul, Nanda Devi peaks, Kedarnath, Kedar Dome, Gangotri and Yamunotri peaks. The peak is at a height of about 12083 feet or 3683m. There is a temple dedicated to River Ganga at the summit.

    Legend behind Deoriatal

    Deoriatal Lake at evening

It seems that the Pandava brothers of Mahabharata not only fought to win at the battlefields, but they were also wanderers and trekkers. Deoriatal is also related to a mythological tale about the Pandavas. It is said that Yaksha (a demi-god) asked questions to the Pandavas before allowing them to drink water from the lake.

Also known as Devariya Tal , it is believed that this was the “ Indra Sarovar ” mentioned in the Puranas and the gods used to come here for taking a bath! Well, with the view of all the majestic peaks at the background, the place was surely meant to be for the gods!

The most common itinerary for Tungnath Deoriatal Chandrasila Trek

We mostly get questions about the itinerary to take for TungnathDeoriatalChandrasila Trek. So we decided to share the most common itinerary for the Deoriatal, Tungnath and Chandrashila trek. This was also the route we took for the trek. For the TungnathDeoriatalChandrasilatrek, you have to reach Haridwar or Rishikesh first. So we will start the itinerary from there.

    Day 1 | Haridwar/ Rishikesh – Ukhimath – Sari – Deoriatal

We started early from Rishikesh and took a bus from towards Ukhimath. It is about 7-8 hours from Rishikesh through the beautiful Devprayag and Rudraprayag. Sari is about 12km from Ukhimath. We did not get any shared vehicle from Ukhimath towards Sari and so hired a cab to the village.

We usually do not book our accommodations while travelling. We believe that that in India there is always a room available. After arriving at Sari, we looked around asking people for places to stay at Sari. We were shown the house of Mr Negi. We reached there and were welcomed by Mr and MrsNegi. Knowing that we did not have our lunch, Mrs Negi quickly went on to prepare something for us. While we waited for food, we talked with Negiji, a gentle person and a trekker himself. He suggested us to trek to Deoriatal that day itself and stay at the tent there. It was a great proposal and we happily agreed.

    Entrance of Deoriatal trek

After having our lunch, we started our trek towards Deoriatal. Sari to Deoriatal is about 2.5-3km and it took us around 2 hours to reach Deoriatal. The trail is well marked and you do not need a guide for it. There were a number of tents and we were the only one there that day. We chose one and stayed there for the night.

Deoriatal is located at an altitude of 2438m surrounded by dense forests and having the snowcapped ranges at the backdrop. The reflection of the Chaukhamba range on the clear waters of the lake is simply a delight to see. I was so excited that I would see something like it after Tonglu in Sandakphu and Phalut trek .

    Day 2 | Deoriatal – Chopta – Tungnath

Reflection of Chaukhamba on Deoriatal Lake

The next morning, we woke up in order to see the mesmerising view of the ranges on the waters of the Deoriatal Lake. It was a surreal feeling to see the view. Having seen the photographs before, we knew what it looked like. But watching it with our own eyes is a different experience altogether.

After having our breakfast, we trekked down to Sari village. There Negiji had arranged a car for us that would take us to Chopta. We reached Choptaby noon and had our lunch there. Chopta by itself is a very scenic place surrounded by forests of pine, deodar and rhododendrons, meadows and flattering vistas. Chopta is often known as the ‘ Switzerland of India ’, but I don’t think that a place should be named as such. I am sure Switzerland is beautiful, but Chopta is also amazing in its own right.

    Tungnath Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek

The initial plan was to stay at Chopta for the night and trek to Tungnath and Chandrashila the next day. But we decided to do the Tungnath trek that day itself. After lunch, we started our trek towards Tungnath.

Tungnath is about 4km from Chopta. The trail is properly paved till Tungnath and there is no need to take any guide. The weather was a bit gloomy. Clouds hang low while we were on our way to Tungnath. We saw many people of different ages on their way to Tungnath or returning from there. Tungnath is one of the holy shrines of Lord Shiva and is visited by a lot of pilgrims. Though our reasons to trek to Tungnath was not religious, we enjoyed hiking through the beautiful trail.

It took us 2 hours to reach Tungnath . There are a number of shops with accommodation facilities below the temple premises. The facilities are very basic with dormitory beds and common toilets, but the people are very warm and welcoming. We decided to stop for the night at one such place. You can also stay at the temple guest room. But remember that the temple remains open for only a fixed time of the year, usually between May to October. Come November, there is a lot of snowfall at Tungnath and reaching Chandrashila becomes difficult.

    Day 3 | Tungnath – Chandrashila – Tungnath – Chopta

    view from Chandrashila peak, Uttrakhand

We started early in the morning at 4 AM. It was biting cold during that time. We had not anticipated such cold and had not brought jackets with us. I was literally trembling. Seeing me thus, the shop owner gave both of us two jackets. They were old and worn out but was enough to keep us warm. At first, we thought, he was renting us the jacket. When we offered him money for the jackets, but he flatly refused!

YOU MAY ALSO LIKE :  Taktsang Monastery Trek, Bhutan

Chandrashila is 1.5 km trek from Tungnath, but this stretch is a tough one. The inclination is almost about 75 degrees and in the biting cold, it became very difficult for us to trek to the summit. Thank god that we had Baba Narayangiri with us! He is sadhu we met at Tungnath. While we were shivering in cold even after wearing the sweater and jackets, he coolly walked with only a shawl. He guided us through the tricky areas and soon we were on the Chandrashila peak.

    Sunrise at Chandrashila

It was not yet the time for sunrise and we waited with teeth clattering against each other for the sun to rise. As the sun rose and the first rays fell on the Chaukhamba peak, we simply stood looking at the beauty. For a moment we forgot everything about our camera and that we have to take pictures. We simply stood in awe at the magic of nature.  From Chandrashila, you can see Nanda Devi , the highest mountain located entirely in India. You can also get the majestic views of Chaukhamba, Trishul, Mt Nanda Ghunti, Mt Kamet, Mt Dunagiri, Kedar Dome, Kedarnath, Thalaysagar and the Gangotri ranges .

Sunrise over Chaukhamna range at Chandrashila trek

After the sunrise, we spent some moment at Chandrashila peak while Baba Narayangiri told us about his stories and his visits at the Kumbh Mela. Then we hiked down to Tungnath. We collected our luggage from there and further hiked down to Chopta. We stopped at Chopta for the night.

    Day 4 | Chopta – Ukhimath – Haridwar

We started early from Chopta. We shared a car with a few other trekkers we met on the trek and came back to Haridwar .

    trekking to Tungnath

This was our Deoriatal Tungnath Chandrashila trek itinerary . You can also do only Tungnath-Chandrashila trek or Deoriatal trek if you do not have enough time.

There is a route from Deoriatal to Tungnath via Rohini Bugyal. We had not taken that route. You can take it, but you would need a guide for it. Most of the commercial trekking companies also take that route. But also keep in mind that camping at RohiniBugyal is not allowed anymore.

Best time for Deoriatal Trek & Tungnath Chandrashila Trek

    Spring (march – april).

Like we always say, the best time to visit a place depends on what you like and want. The spring (March and April) is a great time to visit if you want to see the rhododendrons in bloom. Weather will also be pleasant with warm days and cold nights.

    Summer (May – June)

May to June beginning is also a good time to visit. The snow melts and the weather remains pleasant. This is also the best time to do Tungnath and Chandrashila trek. It is only after March that the snow at Chandrashila starts melting and the trail becomes accessible. However, carry woollen clothes, as the nights can be quite cold.

    Monsoon (Late June – August)

June to August is monsoon and should best be avoided as the area is prone to landslides.

meadows at Tungnath Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek

    Autumn (September – October)

September is a great time to do the trek. Post monsoon, everything will be green, beautiful and fresh. The entire place looks great. The days will be pleasant while the night temperature can drop to 5 degrees.

Autumn arrives in October and brings with it clearer sky and better weather. This is also a good time for the TungnathChandrashila trek. Also, the Tungnath temple remains open till October. While the morning can be pleasant, but nights can be quite chilly. We had visited in October and the night time and early morning were quite chilly.

    Tungnath Temple, Chopta

    Winter (November – February)

During the winter months, the landscape becomes dull, November being the least favourable month. By December, winter sets in and you will see a blanket of white snow everywhere. The Deoriatal Lake will be half-frozen with snow all around. The temperature will be really low during this time. Also, you have to trek through the snow during this time.

Tungnath Temple will be closed and it is difficult to get accommodation there. You might have to return back to Ukhimath or Duggalbitta for night stay. The roads from Duggalbitta might be closed due to snow during this time. So be prepared to trek to Chopta from Duggalbitta or BaniyaKund. The snow trek to Tungnath is quite an adventure, but you should be careful about the weather and other conditions. Also, it is highly recommended to take a guide with you during the winter.

You might not be able to get to Chandrashila peak in the months of December to March.

If you search for Chopta in Google maps, you will come across Chopta near Rudraprayag. Well, there are actually two places named Chopta in the region. The Chopta near Rudraprayag is not the one you are looking for. This is a bigger village and so well marked in Google maps. This is the mistake we had done while looking for Chopta. The Chopta that we are talking about here is the one near Ukhimath.

There are a few routes to reach Chopta. But initially, you have to reach Haridwar or Rishikesh.

    Agni Amrita

Hi Swatilekha! The trail from Tunganath to Chandrashila Peak is a bit steep. We had started at around 4.30 AM from Tunganath and reached the peak just before sunrise. So, you can probably start at around that time. It will take you about an hour to reach the peak. So ask about the time of sunrise and plan accordingly!

Hey , you have beautifully explained everything. I visited chopta around 6 times but weather never allowed me to track to chandrashila. Please point out difficulties in tungnath to chandrashila tract, specially in dark ( at around 4 am) and what precaution we must take.

Hello Dr Neeraj! Thank you for stopping by our blog. The trail from Tunganath to Chandrashila is quite steep. The trail is gravelly with loose stones. So you have to be quite careful while trekking up before sunrise.

To illustrate a classic beginners hike, you must try  Deoriatal – Chopta – Tunganath – Chandrashila trek. This trail and hiking experience will initiate the crave of exploring Himalayas in you. You will get to know Himalayas better on this easy hike than you knew being just a tourist.

It has fantastic close-in mountain views, a fairly large lake with massive peak reflections on it, dense forest trail inside Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary and alpine meadows. It does ignite your hiking proponent through a summit to Chandrashila peak. This is not all! You will visit Tunganath temple, the highest Shiva temple among Panch Kedar.

To reach our trek base Sari village, initially we will drive following Alaknanda till Rudraprayag . You will cross Rishikesh, Devprayag and Srinagar. From Rudraprayag we will follow Mandakini river for a while to reach Ukhimath town. The winding road from Ukhimath to Sari is a fantastic drive with lovely valley and occasional mountain views.

The places covered in the trek promises almost everything that a high altitude Himalayan trek has in its bounty. Deoriatal at ~ 2380 m/7800 ft is a longitudinal lake hidden inside the valley. You will hike a good 2 to 2 and half hours moderate climb from the last village called Sari to reach the lake. Situated at a relatively lower altitude though the mountains and reflections on water are massive and more than impressive from Deoriatal.

Camping has been restricted at Deoriatal and Chopta or above for a while now. We arrange Swiss tents or homestay accommodations nearby .

After exploring Deoriatal, next morning we will descent to Sari and take a car ride to Chopta. Pristine canopy of forest, blooming Rhododendrons in Spring, foliage in autumn, Chopta has it all. Wildlife around Chopta is well known. Likewise,  a walk inside Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary (also called Kedarnath Musk Deer Sanctuary) may highly produce a glimpse of Himalayan Thar or the Himalayan Monal, state bird of Uttarakhand. Not only the wildlife, the walk on the Chopta Gopeshwar road inside forest in itself is pretty rewarding. Sunset from Chopta will surely mesmerise your senses. In particular, fresh snow in winter and Rhododendrons in spring turn this place a special one.

    peak-views-on-the-way-to-chopta

Next day you will visit Tunganath and climb Chandrashila peak above the temple. Tunganath , at an elevation of ~3600 m/11500 being the highest of Panch Kedar, the five holy shrines of Lord Shiva (remaining four are, Kedarnath, Madmaheshwar, Rudranath and Kalpeshwar). A return trip from Chopta will test your basic stamina  and endurance. Meanwhile from May to Oct, temple remains open. During this season you can stay at Tunganath. Sunset from Tunganath towards the lower valleys of Ukhimath and Guptkashi  along with Chaukhamba view is compelling to say a least.

Chandrashila, a small peak above the temple is just an hour and half’s climb. Often it is referred to as the ‘Switzerland of India”. 180 degree panoramic view from the top covers numerous peaks of Kumaon (including Nanda Devi and Trishul ) to westward peaks of the Kedarnath area. The four pillars of Chaukhamba standing above 7000 m/23000 ft are so close that you have to zoom out your camera!

To sum up, this is truly a short and easy “All In One trek” for you to begin with.

Brief Itinerary for Deoriatal Chandrashila trek:

Update 2019: camping restrictions at chopta and tunganath and inside kedarnath wildlife sanctuary.

Even before the Uttarakhand High Court’s order regarding camping on Alpine meadows/Bugyal in August 2018, this trek route got its own problems regarding the camps.

First came the notice from DFO, Kedarnath Wildlife Division in 2017. The notice revoked necessary permits to camp inside core forest area. Certainly this helped to stop the abuse of the Eco-system primarily due to setting up of large fixed camps at Rohini Bugyal, Tunganath and intermediate sites. Probably this is a blessing for wildlife habitat in this pristine forest and sanctuary.

Then the local small restaurant and Dhaba owners objected to camp at Chopta due to their livelihood concern at the end of 2017. Starting from 2018 you need to camp at least 3/4 Km off and down from Chopta,  a place called Baniyakund.

So practically you can only camp around Deoriatal and Baniyakund. You can’t camp at Chopta or Tunganath, neither inside core forest area like Rohini Bugyal.

Best way to visit Deoriatal Chopta Tungnath Chandrashila – Tea House mode over camping trek:

In vast Indian Himalayas, almost all treks are of camping style. There are only handful of treks which you can complete while staying in basic lodge/homestay/seasonal settlements. This trek is one such Tea House Himalayan trek in India. Don’t worry, you will have wide choice of camping treks in future 🙂

Which is the best time to choose for Deoriatal Chopta Chandrashila trek?

You can choose this trek almost throughout the year, apart from monsoon. It has to offer something unique in each season.

Spring – Summer (April to June): Spring brings abundant Rhododendron flowers around Chopta. Depending upon snowfall in winter, you will get remaining snow at Tunganath and Chandrashila as late as end of April.

I had an amazing trek with Trekmunk to Sandakphu November and December 2019. From the first moment of inquiry about the trek and all my questions were answered clearly and on time thanks to Dheeraj who managed to facilitate the trek quite well with his communication. Our guide Arpan was very experienced, calm, patient and very helpful to each trekker's needs in the group. He facilitated to find and hire a porter for me once I needed one although we were in the middle of the trail. He also arranged emergency transportation when I had to cut the trek and go back home for an urgent matter. I really enjoyed their service and I would like to repeat the same trek or try other treks with them again.

Our 7 days trip to Meghalaya was a truly memorable experience. Thank you Trekmunk for arranging such an adventurous backpacking trip and a special thanks to Mohit Goswami our trip leader for giving us an experience of what true travelling is. From hitchhiking to traversing the unknown places to eating delicious Momo's to climbing 3000 steps, we did it all in those 7 days which came to end so quickly and none of us wanted to go back home. Such an experience where you just pick up your rucksacks and walk down the roads of a traveller could have been only possible because of Trekmunk!

Chadar trek is considered to be one of the most difficult and dangerous treks, which requires a lot of skilled trek leaders, a perfect guide and a strong team of porters. I choose Trekmunk for Chadar and they proved they are a perfect team. Highly skilled trek leaders, professional skiers, gave us details on how to walk on slippery ice. Professionally trained and certified with wilderness medication programs always ready to take your care in any condition and travelers themselves. One will enjoy their company, their travel stories and their way of leading a trek. Cheers to team Trekmunk.

I chose (after a lot of research) Trekmunk for my first trek - The Hampta Pass and Chandratal Trek. And I am so really glad I did so. The trekker needs to only focus on the trek and the beautiful landscape around him/her. The rest of everything is taken care of by Trekmunk from day 1 till the end of the trek. Scrupulously managed logistics; no compromise on safety and security; experienced, intelligent and knowledgeable trek leaders; scrumptious meals; contingency and backup plans; etc. make Trekmunk an ideal choice to go trekking with. My trek was lead by Ashish Pathania, Prashant Reddy and Sanjay Thakur. The three are were thorough professionals. They were jolly, very helpful, experienced, knowledgeable, organized, and needless to say polite yet strict when needed. They played the most important roles in making sure our overall trekking experience was a wonderful one. Thank you Trekmunk for one of the most beautiful experiences I have had till date. Will see you guys soon.
