alt

As you slowly wind your way through the drive-thru safari, you'll cross paths with more than 100 animals from 25 different species - bison, zebras, and emu, for example.

alt

Before you set off, purchase feed from Keystone Safari. It's the only type of food the animals are permitted to eat. If you want an up-close encounter with lots of laughs, buy some food.

alt

Adhere to the two-mile-an-hour speed limit as you slowly make your way through the drive-thru safari. Don't forget to bring your camera along, too.

alt

If you're up for more fun after your drive through, head over to the walk-thru safari where even more fun and animals await.

alt

You can also purchase food, like lettuce for the giraffes, for some of the animals on the walk-thru portion of your adventure, where you'll run into lions, bat-eared foxes like the ones pictured here, and...

alt

Black bears. If you visit during the Halloween season, you might even catch a black bear and other animals playing with and eating pumpkins.

The One Pennsylvania Farm Where You Can Feed Ostriches, Camels, And Goats

A surefire way to win the friendship of any animal is with kindness - and food. Definitely food. When my daughter was little, we went to a local animal park where she struck up a friendship with a goat. The goat was so enamored he hopped the fence around his enclosure and followed her around the rest of the day. That's just one thing that makes going to places like this Pennsylvania farm , where you can pet and feed the animals, so special. We have the unique opportunity to connect with animals, make memories and, if we're lucky, laugh a whole lot, too.

Nestled just about half an hour from Sunbury, Green Horse Animal Park & Petting Zoo in Dornsife promises a quiet that will make you feel miles away from it all.

alt

Breathe in the fresh air at this rural attraction, where you'll stroll past a variety of animals, including deer and Highland cows, as they graze. A lot of those animals, though, eagerly await visitors and the treats they bring.

alt

One of the highlights of visiting this Pennsylvania farm is the chance to feed the residents. (You'll have to buy food at the farm, but it's well worth it for the memories you'll make.)

alt

Admission includes one wagon ride. Enjoy a ride around the farm, where you can snap photos, and...

alt

Feed those animals who wander up to you. More than 100 animals - llamas, mini pigs, and an emu - live on the farm. Keep an eye out for the zebra, too.

alt

Outside food is not permitted, and the rule is strictly enforced. Spend some time in the petting zoo, making new four-legged and feeding them. You might even be lucky enough to hold a piglet.

alt

Don't forget to say hello to the ostriches and camels, who have their own areas, and feed them, too.

alt

Camel rides are also available.

If you've got the time, make a day of it. Sit back and relax while the kiddos have a blast at the playground.

alt

Bring a picnic; set up at one of the picnic tables at the pavilion, and indulge in a leisurely lunch.

alt

If you're looking for a laidback adventure that includes adorable animals and sweet treats like whoopie pies, add this budget-friendly day trip in Ronks, Pennsylvania to your itinerary.

alt

Tucked in the tiny town of Ronks, The Li'l Country Store and Miniature Horse Farm gives a glimpse at life in Amish Country.

alt

Start your visit at the petting zoo, where you can stroll through the meadows to meet a variety of friendly farm animals, including miniature horses, alpacas, chickens, and pygmy goats.

When they're not roaming in the meadows, the mini horses relax in their stalls and welcome visitors to feed and pet them. Plenty of photo-worthy moments await, so don't forget your camera.

alt

For a nominal fee, kiddos under 70 pounds can enjoy a saddle ride, but don't worry if you've got older kids. All kids can climb aboard a cart ride for a small fee.

Workshops are held on select days and must be reserved in advance. You can schedule your workshop on the farm's website. There is a fee for the workshop.

The fun doesn't stop with the petting zoo. Indulge in an ice cream treat before exploring the country store that's brimming with a little bit of everything, from...

Keystone Safari zoo near Grove City adds hour-long drive-thru tour

Joyce Hanz

The wildlife scene has increased at Keystone Safari near Grove City.

Just up the road from Keystone Safari’s walk-thru park is their latest expansion: a self-guided drive-thru safari tour, offering interaction with more than 100 animals and 25 species.

Keystone Safari opened in 2019 and is family-owned by Adam and Tanis Guiher.

Adam Guiher, a member of the Zoological Association of America, has worked since 2012 developing the 144-acre Keystone Safari facility. It encompasses two separate interactive animal parks, located Liberty Township, Mercer County.

Billed as both educational and entertaining, guests can expect to spend about an hour driving their personal vehicle during the drive-thru option, which provides a covid-19 friendly activity, said general manager Josh Vasbinder.

“This is a really good alternative for people that want to space themselves out among others and use their own vehicles to drive through our safari area,” Vasbinder said.

Roll down the car windows and choose to feed or simply watch animals such as emus, bison, elk, zebras, donkeys, llamas, Highlander cattle, yak and more.

But hold that feed bucket tightly, the hungry mouths of the inquisitive animals don’t hold back as they chomp away on the high-fiber grain sold for $5 per bucket.

“They didn’t bite or anything,” said first-time visitor Bryce Pryor, 11. “I liked the camels and buffaloes.”

“We’re in the car, we’re all safe. We have hand sanitizer and we don’t have to worry being around other people,” said first-time visitor Leslie Stephens from Pittsburgh’s Brookline neighborhood. “The emus and ostrich — they actually came into the car — that was fun and exciting.”

The drive-thru is open daily from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. during September.

A new sunset safari option was added Saturdays from 6 p.m.-8 p.m., with the last vehicle admitted in at 7:15 p.m.

“Driving through as the sun is perfectly setting and watching all of the animals graze the fields is stunningly beautiful,” Vasbinder said.

No outside food is permitted.

Safari rules are enforced, such as remaining in your vehicle; not hanging out of your vehicle; driving 2 mph; and no pets of any kind.

The walk-through park features beginner and moderate zip-line courses, treetop adventure, pony rides, gift shop, animal feedings, butterfly garden, reindeer barn, bounce house and more.

Visitors’ Reviews

Nice place to take your family for a day. Lots of good information on most of the exhibits about the behaviors of the animals. More of an I close experience than any zoo I have ever been too. We have a season pass and the kids ask to go all the time during the summer. We can’t wait to return because sometimes you miss a few things you see the best trip.

This animal park is great. Hands down, great. My family enjoy it so much that we purchased the season pass for 2019. It is reasonably priced and so close to home. Its a nice alternative, than driving to Pittsburgh. They have a nice variety of animals like lions, camels, alligators, tigers, wolves and so much more. They do special events during Halloween (evening walk through) and my son’s favorite Super Hero Day. Its not as big as the Pittsburgh Zoo, but it’s still a very nice place to enjoy the day. If you haven’t been there before, please go and enjoy. If you haven’t been there for a while, go back! They have been adding a lot of new exhibits!

Great way to see animals in a way you rarely get to experience in a regular zoo. More to see than in the Pittsburgh Zoo.

Marian Olech

Faqs & rules, what forms of payment do you accept.

We accept cash and all major credit cards. Checks are only accepted for group visits.

Note: Credit cards can only be used in the Gift Shop and Watering hole. You may purchase tickets in the gift shop for pony/hay rides at the gift shop, or pay with cash at the rides.

Is the park handicapped accessible?

Yes, we have paved walkways and ramps to a few exhibits where it is necessary to view animals.  We also have 3 motorized scooters that can be rented on a first come first serve basis for $4 per hour.

Are service animals allowed in the park?

Unfortunately not. We have several species of birds roaming free in the park, and we are considered an open-air aviary. In addition, several of our animals see dogs as a threat, and they could potentially panic or attack, causing injury to themselves, the service animal, or park visitors.

Do you rent out wheelchairs or motorized scooters?

We have 3 motorized scooters that can be rented on a first come first serve basis.  The rental fee is $4 per hour.  ID must be held at gift shop until the scooter is returned.

Can we bring our own food for the animals?

No. Due to federal animal safety laws, only food provided by the park may enter the park to be fed to our animals. Anyone who violates this policy will be removed from the park without refund.

Once we come into the park, are we allowed to leave and come back?

Yes!  You may leave at any time and return. Just show your receipt upon reentry.

Do you have a concession stand?

Our concession stand is open on Saturdays and Sundays, weather permitting. There are small snacks available for purchase and we have several beverage vending machines throughout the park available daily.

Where can we eat our packed lunch/dinner while we’re there?

We have picnic areas located in the park. They are free and open to the public on a daily basis. However, group visitors can reserve the picnic areas for their use only. In the event that the picnic area is reserved for a group, there will be a sign listing times that it will be unavailable to the public.

It’s halfway through the summer (or it’s early fall,) is it too late to buy a season pass?

It is never too late to buy a season passes! They are valid for one year from the date of purchase. If you buy your pass on September 25th, it will be good until the following September 25th.

Can season passes be used at both locations and at Keystone Safari?

Yes, season passes can be used at both Living Treasures locations (New Castle & Jones Mills) and Keystone Safari (Grove City). The season pass will grant you access to the walking circle animal exhibits. The safari bus rides and zip line challenge courses will be extra. Go to www.keystonesafari.net for updates and pricing.

Do you accept coupons?

We do have some coupons available. Please check your coupon for it’s valid locations, restrictions (no weekend/holiday) and expiration dates.

Where do the animals go in the winter?

Most of the animals have access to heated buildings or shelters and can go in and out as they please. The more temperature sensitive animals are moved into our heated buildings. We have over 10,000 square feet of heated area to ensure all of the animals are safe and comfortable during the winter. Our alligators are moved to a location in Florida in the late fall and return to the park in the late spring.
