Both devastating and rejuvenating, their walls and whirlwinds of sound erode the psyche and drill through the ego, then pull out the raw and helpless id and hold it high above windswept and frozen mountain peaks, plunge it low into the brown depths of the earth, and leave the audience reborn.

US black metal titans  Wolves In The Throne Room  are about to embark on an epic tour across europe this October and November. This headline tour off the back of their recent album  Primordial Arcana  released through Relapse Records comes with support from Incantation  and  Stygian Bough  ( a collaboration between  Bell Witch  and  Aerial Ruin ).

Wolves In The Throne Room announce European tour

WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM  have announced a headlining European tour!

Set for May and June this year, the tour will see the American black metal band touring across mainland Europe and the UK in support of their latest EP,  Crypt Of Ancestral Knowledge , which was released back in September.

Support for the tour comes from  GAEREA  and  MORTIFERUM and will include an appearance at black metal festival,  Fortress Festival , in Scarborough this June. Tickets for the tour will be available from Friday, January 12th and can be purchased here.

Speaking about the tour, the band says, “WOLVES OF EUROPE! The Crypt Of Ancestral Knowledge European tour is preparing to blast forth in May. We will be playing material from our recent EP as well as older songs that we have not performed in years. Come light the Beltane Fires with us.”

Wolves In The Throne Room have announced that their upcoming European tour will now be postponed until fall 2022. The Washington-based trio released their new album, Primordial Arcana, on August 20 of this year via Century Media Records.

In a statement addressing the postponement of their European trek to next year, the band shares: “WOLFCULT OF EUROPE. We’ve received the word from our European team: The Primordial Arcana European Tour has been rescheduled for 2022. We will blaze the fires brightly next year! All tickets will remain valid. Our friends Blood Incantation will be replaced by an equally exciting act TBA.”

Album review: Wolves In The Throne Room – Primordial Arcana

U.S. black metal trailblazers Wolves In The Throne Room excel on seventh offering, Primordial Arcana.

Wolves In The Throne Room are a band whose name is synonymous with modern black metal; the Weaver brothers are a powerhouse of musical conjuring, creating soundscapes of minimalistic elegance with the aid of an ever revolving series of guest musicians. 2017’s Thrice Woven saw guitarist Kody Keyworth become a permanent member of the band, adding yet more weight to an already overflowing arsenal of riffs. It's a momentum carried over on Primordial Arcana.

If there’s one thing that Wolves In The Throne Room know how to do it’s create a gnarly atmosphere – this descends thick and fast on opener Mountain Magick, making way for racing tremolos and thunderous percussion. While previous albums, such as Diadem of 12 Stars, lingered at over an hour for a mere four tracks, Primordial Arcana gets right to the point at a modest 45 minutes but still has a lot to say for itself.

Listeners are taken on a journey as the band tell a captivating story of magic and Pagan rituals. Elements of folk add a rustic appeal to Wolves’ trademark “Cascadian” sound, while heavier moments have all the more clout for adding a second guitar. The solos are absolutely enormous and are some of the most interesting song writing that they’ve produced to date. Nathan Weaver’s vocals, meanwhile, are as unsettlingly raspy as ever, backed up by the throaty roars of Keyworth.

With the exception of their weird ambient 2014 album Celestite, it’s pretty much a given that every Wolves In The Throne Room release is going to be excellent. Primordial Arcana is an example of a band not only matching up to their established greatness, but far exceeding it.
