" The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants " is an iconic story of friendship. 

It's been 15 years since the first movie had four best friends — played by Alexis Bledel , Blake Lively , America Ferrera , and Amber Tamblyn — find a pair of jeans that fit them all. On August 6, 2008, the foursome reunited for more adventures in the sequel, "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2." 

In April 2018, it was reported that a third movie was in the works. Bledel even said on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" that the girls had "pitched" a concept for another movie .

While there have been no recent updates on the possible third movie, the four main girls have all gone on to star in countless other projects.

Here's a look at what the casts of both movies have been up to. 

The movie was Blake Lively's first major movie role. She played Bridget Vreeland, also known as Bree, who traveled to Mexico for a soccer camp.

At soccer camp, Bree gets involved in a summer fling with one of her coaches and also opens up to her friends about her mother's mental health.

In the second movie, she goes on an archaeological dig in Turkey before traveling to Alabama to visit her grandmother, where she learns more about her own mother.

Today, Lively is best known for her starring role on "Gossip Girl," which has earned her two Teen Choice Awards.

Lively's other film credits include "A Simple Favor," "Accepted," "The Age of Adaline," and "The Shallows." A fashion icon , she'll next appear in "The Husband's Secret." 

She married Ryan Reynolds in 2012, and they have three children. 

One of America Ferrera's earliest roles was playing Carmen Lowell, who spends a portion of her summer with her dad and his new family in South Carolina.

Ferrera is caught by surprise upon meeting her dad's new family. After they ignore her feelings, she escapes back to Maryland. Eventually, she makes up with her dad and attends his wedding at the end of the first movie.

In the sequel, Carmen attends an actor's workshop in Vermont and earns the lead role in a play.

Ferrera went on to star in "Ugly Betty," becoming the first Latina to win a leading actress Emmy.

Ferrera's other projects include the "How to Train Your Dragon" movies and "César Chávez." Ferrera also starred and executive produced the comedy "Superstore," which she left after five seasons . 

Ferrera is also politically active, advocating for immigrant rights and women's equality. She is a founding member of the Time's Up movement  and legal defense fund, which seeks to end workplace sexual harassment and assault.

She married Ryan Piers Williams in 2011 and they have a son and daughter together.

Amber Tamblyn was Tabitha Tomko-Rollins, better known as Tibby, who stayed home in Bethesda, Maryland, for the summer.

In the first film, Tibby worked at a discount department store and was filming her own movie. She met a young girl named Bailey who had leukemia, and the two grew close before Bailey died.

Tibby took screenwriting classes at New York University and worked in a video store in the sequel. She also went through a pregnancy scare with her boyfriend, Brian.

Tamblyn published her first novel in 2018 and is a staunch supporter of the Time's Up movement.

Before starring in the "Sisterhood" movies, she was known for "Joan of Arcadia." She later appeared on "House" and "Two and a Half Men" and starred in "127 Hours."

Tamblyn is a also writer and has released three poetry collections with publishers. Her first novel, "Any Man," was published in 2018, and in 2019, she published "Era of Ignition: Coming of Age in a Time of Rage and Revolution."

Tamblyn helped found the non-profit organization Time's Up.

She's been married to David Cross since 2012, and they welcomed daughter Marlow Alice in 2017.

Alexis Bledel was already known for "Gilmore Girls" when she was cast as Lena Kaligaris, who spends her summer in Greece.

Bledel falls for a boy named Kostos while in Greece and begins dating him, but she learns that they are from rival families.

When she returns to Greece in the sequel, she finds Kostos married. She leaves Greece to go back to school at the Rhode Island School of Design and briefly dates a new man.

Bledel went on to win an Emmy for her performance on Hulu's hit drama "The Handmaid's Tale."

She won her first Emmy for the Hulu series. But before landing her new role, she was in a few movies, including "Post Grad" and "Jenny's Wedding."

Bledel has been married to "Mad Men" actor Vincent Kartheiser since 2014. She gave birth to a son in 2015. 

Jenna Boyd wasn't yet a teen when she played Bailey Graffman, Tibby's eventual friend.

She bonds with Tibby and the two form a friendship until her death from leukemia. 

Boyd had a few roles after "Sisterhood," but stepped away from acting for a time before returning to star on Netflix's "Atypical."

Now 27, Boyd uses her Instagram platform to promote fitness and wellness to her followers. 

One of Leonardo Nam's earliest roles was as Tibby's gaming friend Brian McBrian.

Though he had a small part in the first movie, he played a larger role in the sequel as Tibby's boyfriend. 

Nam is now best known for his role in "Westworld."

Nam plays Felix Lutz on the hit HBO series. 

He has also starred in plenty of movies, including "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," "Vantage Point," and "He's Just Not That Into You."

Nam also has roles in "Yes Day" and "Hummingbird," which are currently in post-production. 

Bradley Whitford had a prolific career before playing Albert "Al" Lowell, Carmen's dad, in the first movie.

Carmen's dad is surprisingly engaged to another woman who has two children when Carmen visits. They have a falling out early on but eventually resolve their issues and Carmen attends his wedding.

Whitford was known for starring on "The West Wing" and in movies including "Philadelphia" and "Billy Madison" before starring in the movie.  

Whitford's career hasn't slowed down in the years since.

Whitford won an Emmy for his guest role on "Transparent," was a guest on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," and starred in the second season of "The Handmaid's Tale."

He was also in the Oscar-nominated movies "Get Out" and "The Post," and will appear in "Songbird," and "Tik, Tik... Boom," which are both in post-production.

In 2019, Whitford and his "Transparent" co-star Amy Landecker eloped . 

Michael Rady made his acting debut as Kostas Dounas, Lena's eventual boyfriend from a rival family.

Rady appeared in both of the movies but was married in the sequel. Kostas later got his marriage annulled after his wife admitted to lying about her pregnancy. 

Rady has continued to act and even had some overlap with Boyd when filming "Atypical."

His other projects include "Greek," "Melrose Place," "Jane the Virgin," "Timeless," and the second season of "UnREAL." 

Rady is a vegan and has three kids with his wife, Rachael Kemery. 

Before playing soccer coach Eric Richman in the first movie, Mike Vogel starred on "Grounded for Life."

Vogul starts a relationship with Bridget during their summer soccer camp, then later visits her at her home to apologize for his behavior and says that she is too young for him. 

Vogel landed a main role on NBC's "The Brave," which was canceled after one season.

Vogel was also in "Bates Motel" and "Under the Dome." His movie roles include "Cloverfield," "The Help," and "Battle of the Sexes."

Vogel is married and has three children with his wife Courtney. 

Jesse Williams made his film debut in the sequel, starring as Leo, the model in Lena's art class.

Lena and Leo have a brief relationship during Lena's summer course at the Rhode Island School of Design. 

Williams is known for playing Jackson on "Grey's Anatomy."

Williams also starred in "Little Fires Everywhere" and "Station 19." He will soon appear in "Team Joy," which is in post-production.

In 2016, Williams won the Humanitarian Award at the BET Awards. His speech on race sparked debate, resulting in two different petitions, one calling for him to be fired from "Grey's Anatomy," and the other demanding he stay. This past June, BETNetworks reshared his speech, which has since been viewed over one million times.

Lucy Hale also made her film debut as Effie Kaligaris, Lena's younger sister.

Effie briefly dates Brian after Tibby breaks up with him. In the sequel, Effie steals the traveling pants and ends up losing them in Greece.

Hale went on to star on "Pretty Little Liars" for seven seasons.

Hale rose to fame through her role in "Pretty Little Liars." She then went on to star in "Life Sentence," "Truth or Dare," and "Katy Keene."

Hale also has a background in music and released a studio album in 2014.

Shohreh Aghdashloo earned an Oscar nomination for "House of Sand and Fog" four years before playing Professor Nasrin Mehani, Bree's archaeological instructor, in the sequel.

Before the "Sisterhood" sequel, Aghdashloo was also known for "The Exorcism of Emily Rose," "X-Men: The Last Stand," and "24." 

Aghdashloo was in Marvel's "The Punisher" and recently finished starring in "The Expanse."

Aghdashloo won an Emmy for "House of Saddam." 

Blythe Danner was already a two-time Emmy winner when she played Greta, Bree's grandmother in the sequel.

Bree visits her grandmother and learns more about her mother, who battled mental health issues throughout her life before passing when Bree was young.

Danner has continued to appear in moves and TV shows, including "Will and Grace," which earned her another Emmy nomination.

The actress is also known for "Meet the Parents," "Gypsy," and "Huff." 

She's the mother of Jake and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Tom Wisdom appeared in "300" before playing Ian, a potential love interest that Carmen meets in the sequel.

Ian and Carmen flirt throughout the workshop and finally kiss at the end. 

Wisdom went on to star in "Dominion."

Wisdom was also in an episode of "Hannibal" and "Bones," and played a small role in "Avengers: Endgame."

"Twin Peaks" star Kyle MacLachlan pops into the "Sisterhood" sequel as Bill Kerr, the director of Carmen's acting workshop.

He had already won a Golden Globe for "Twin Peaks" and had starred on "Sex and the City" and "Desperate Housewives" when he acted in the "Sisterhood" sequel. 

MacLachlan returned for the "Twin Peaks" revival in 2017, earning a Golden Globe nomination for his role.

He has also appeared in "Portlandia," "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," and "The Good Wife." He voiced Riley's dad in Pixar's "Inside Out." 

He is married to publicist Desiree Gruber and they have one son together.

What The Cast Of 'The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants' Looks Like Today

"The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," which is based on the novel of the same name by Ann Brashares, came out in 2005. It was followed by a sequel in 2008, and a third film is being developed (via IMDb ). While there is not much known about this third installment, this does give fans a chance to review the cast and see what they all look like today.

First up is America Ferrera, who is 37 and who was 20 when she first played Carmen Lowell (via In That Movie ). She went on to portray Betty Suarez in "Ugly Betty" between 2006 and 2010, Amy in "Superstore" from 2015 to 2021, and Astrid in the "How to Train Your Dragon" TV shows and films.

In her personal life, she married Ryan Piers Williams, an actor and writer, in 2011, and together, they have two children: Sebastian Piers Williams, a son born in 2018, and Lucia Marisol Williams , a daughter born in 2020 (via Instagram ).

Another main character from "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" books and movies is Tabitha Anastasia Tomko-Rollins, a.k.a. Tibby, and she is played by Amber Tamblyn . This actress has been seen in television shows such as "General Hospital," "Joan of Arcadia," and "House" and in films like "The Ring," "127 Hours," and "Django Unchained" (via IMDb ).

In real life, Tamblyn is married to actor David Cross, known for his role in "Arrested Development." In 2017, they welcomed a daughter, Marlow Alice Cross, into the world, as reported by People .

According to In That Movie , this 37-year-old was 21 when she first started playing a teenager who found a magical pair of jeans with her best friends. It is common to see stars play younger or older characters at different times throughout their careers, and only one of these cast members was actually in her teens, as seen down below.

Blake Lively had a small role as Trixie/Tooth Fairy in "Sandman" in 1998, but her first big role was playing Bridget Vreeland in "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants." She went on to appear in television series such as "Mad Men," "The Handmaid's Tale," and, of course, "Gilmore Girls," and she even reprised her role of Rory Gilmore in "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" in 2016 (via IMDb ).

Bledel met Vincent Kartheiser on the set of "Mad Men," and the two tied the knot in 2014. They keep their personal lives very private, including the news of their growing family (via E! Online ). They had a baby boy in the fall of 2015, and the news actually came out when Scott Patterson (a.k.a. Luke Danes) mentioned it to Glamour in May 2016!

The cast of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants has reunited two decades later. Based on the novel of the same name, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is a 2005 coming-of-age comedy about a group of four best friends who stay connected with each other through a magical pair of jeans that miraculously fits each of their bodies perfectly. The movie is directed by Ken Kwapis and stars Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera, Blake Lively, and Alexis Bledel as the four main friends. The cast then returned in 2008 for a sequel.

Nearly 20 years after the first film’s release, the cast of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants has again come together. Ferrera posted a short video on Instagram of Lively, Tamblyn, and Bledel joining her to celebrate her role in Barbie .

The sweet clip shows the main quartet taking a series of pictures together. In the background, Ferrera included audio from the film. To caption the post, she wrote, “ The Sisterhood came through all in pink to celebrate my performance in Barbie last night. I love these women with all my heart. ”

Where Is The Cast Of The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants Now?

As alluded to in Ferrera's post, the actor recently earned much acclaim for her performance as Gloria in Greta Gerwig's Barbie . In addition to the smash hit film, Ferrera’s post- Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants career has included playing Amy Sosa on the hit NBC series Superstore and voicing Astrid in the How to Train Your Dragon movies . Though she was only 21 when she starred in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants , Ferrera’s career has really taken off since then.

Bledel and Lively have also maintained fairly active careers in the years since the YA movies. Lively went on to play one of the lead roles in Gossip Girl from 2007 to 2012, and has acted in a number of movies. Bledel, who got her start playing Rory Gilmore on the series Gilmore Girls , continued to appear on the show after The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants , and also played a role in the first four seasons of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale .

Tamblyn has had one of the slower careers of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants leads , though she still maintains an active career in the film industry, most recently appearing in the movie You Hurt My Feelings . It is Lively and Ferrera whose careers flourished the most after The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants , but nonetheless, all four actors have seen success to some degree. For those nostalgic for the movie and its sequel, it is great to see the Sisterhood back again and still supporting each other decades later.

America Ferrera , Alexis Bledel ,  Blake Lively  and  Amber Tamblyn have loved each other like a real family since they met on set of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in 2005. They've continuously celebrated each other as actresses, moms and activists, singing each other's praises at every given opportunity.

While they may not share any magical pairs of denim, these four stars — who also costarred in the Sisterhood sequel in 2008 — are bonded for life. See photos of some of their sweet, nostalgic reunions over the years.

From Denim Blue to Barbie Pink

The "sisterhood" showed up in full to support Ferrera's role in Barbie at a special screening in New York City, and Lively, Tamblyn and Bledel embraced the movie's pink overload with their colorful attire.

In honor of their latest reunion, Lively — who was 16 when she played Bridget in the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies — celebrated her "denim sister" Ferrera (who stars as Carmen in the coming-of-age, Y2K-era flicks) with an Instagram post from their memorable night out . The Gossip Girl alumna praised her pal's performance in the summer Blockbuster and even refenced a line from Ann Brashares' book series that inspired the movies.

"Pants = Love. Love your sisters. Love yourself," Lively quoted in her caption.

Like Siblings

Tamblyn, who played Tibby in the 2005 film, also paid tribute to her "sisters" on social media, sharing a number of selfies and sweet moments with her former costars. Tamblyn even detailed how the quartet prepped for their girls night.

"We got ready together, picked out outfits and jewelry and handbags together (aka raided Blake’s closet), ate dinners together, and drove together to celebrate our favorite sister,  @americaferrera  and her brilliant performance in Barbie," Tamblyn wrote alongside her Instagram post .

Bonded for Life

In 2018, Bledel — who played Lena in the movies — teased a possible third Sisterhood movie in the works.

The Handmaid's Tale star spoke highly of her friends during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon , saying, “We don’t get to see each other a lot because everybody’s work or family and everything, but when everybody is in town we do, and we just pitched a third movie and I hope it comes together. It would be so great.”

In 2016, Lively reflected on her close, lasting bond with the girls, whom she's considered her "friends and mentors" since they met on set.

“What they do – whether artistically, politically, socially, personally – they really use their voice,” Lively told PEOPLE. “And whether people agree with their voice or not is not the thing that I’m most concerned with as much as, it’s nice to see women who are not only empowering themselves but empowering other women to stand up and to really fight and work for what they believe in.”

In 2017, Tamblyn, Lively and Ferrera stood up in sisterly solidarity to participate in women's marches in two different cities. Ferrera saw Tamblyn in Washington, D.C., and then Lively connected with her pink hat-wearing pal in N.Y.C.

Just like their characters, the actresses are there for each other during some of life's biggest milestone moments. In 2018, they gathered in anticipation of the next generation when Ferrera was expecting her first child .

Even when all four aren't available, the BFFs will take any opportunity to spend time together. Lively and Tamblyn partnered up to celebrate the Fourth of July in 2021, and they posted a smiley selfie to commemorate the holiday occasion.

They might be major Hollywood names, but the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants stars keep in touch just like any other friend group — with a group chat . Ferrera shared how they communicated on a 2019 episode of Busy Philipps' former talk show Busy Tonight .

“We have a text thread. Breaking news! There is a  Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants  text thread,” Ferrera revealed. “I go to them for everything.”

Endless Support

Nearly a decade before she played Gloria in Barbie , Ferrera was feeling the sisterly support from Lively, Bledel and Tamblyn when she starred in the 2014 revival of Lips Together, Teeth Apart . The stage star posted a selfie snapped by her friends at the show, writing, "Look who dropped by my matinee today and made my day! #MySisterhood ! Love these women and the support they constantly show."

‘Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ Cast Is All Smiles During Reunion Nearly 20 Years After 1st Film

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants cast Blake Lively , Alexis Bledel , America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn are still closer than ever.

The quartet had a sweet reunion on Friday, December 15, as fans continue to hope for a third film.

“I just need everyone to know I witnessed the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants women reunite in front of my eyes tonight and Blake Lively and I talked about how lazy Santa is,” Josh Horowitz , “Happy Sad Confused” podcast host, shared via X (formerly Twitter). “Now I’m getting tacos from a food truck.”

He was quick to follow up with a photo of the four women, writing “The SISTERHOOD cannot be stopped.”

Questlove also attended the event, sharing a snap captioned, “You’d capture this moment too if you were me.”

Ferrera later took to Instagram to share a clip of their reunion, revealing that they were there to support her at an event for Barbie . “💕The Sisterhood came through all in pink to celebrate my performance in Barbie last night. I love these women with all my heart.💕 #SisterhoodForever,” she captioned the clip.

Fans were gushing over the clip, including Reese Witherspoon , who commented, “Love this friendship ! 💗”

Lively, (Bridget), Bledel (Lena), Ferrera (Carmen) and Tamblyn (Tibby) have stayed close for nearly two decades. The first Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie premiered in 2005, with a sequel hitting theaters in 2008.

“We’re very proud to be friends and if we could do movies together for the rest of our lives, I think we would,” Tamblyn, 40, told Us Weekly in March 2018, about reuniting with the other ladies.

While there’s no official news about a third movie just yet, most of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants actresses agree — they want to reunite on screen.

“I think it could really happen,” Lively, 36, told Entertainment Tonight of a third movie in 2018. “I think that people who love the movie want to see it. So, I mean, fans have gotten bigger movies made.”

That same year, Bledel, 42, even revealed that the women have “pitched a third movie,” sharing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that it would be “so great” if the stars aligned and they could work together again.

As for why it’s taken so long? Tamblyn noted that it’s a “complicated” task getting everyone in the same place at the same time.

“Just the fact that between the four of us, we all have like 870 children , so you know, it’s hard,” she joked on SiriusXM’s Pop Culture Spotlight in October 2022. (She shares one child with husband David Cross . Lively has welcomed four kids with husband Ryan Reynolds . Ferrera and husband Ryan Piers Williams share two kids. Bledel has one son with ex-husband Vincent Kartheiser .)

Despite their busy schedules, Tamblyn said they’re definitely down to do something in the future.

“I know that that is a great hope for all four of us is to be able to work together again,” she added. “I mean, that’s, to me, it feels like the ultimate grift where I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, we’re gonna get paid to hang out when we do that in real life anyway? Cool. I’m in.’”

See The Cast Of 'Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants' Adorably Reunite 20 Years Later

On Friday, America Ferrera celebrated her Critics Choice Awards nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Greta Gerwig's Barbie . Ferrera was joined by her fellow castmates from an entirely different movie, The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants , a film that came out in 2005.

Now, almost 20 years later, the Barbie star is still friends with the sisterhood. She posed for pictures with Blake Lively , Alexis Bledel, and Amber Tamblyn. The moment was first reported by Happy Sad Confused podcast host, Josh Horowitz, who wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter,“I just need everyone to know I witnessed the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants women reunite in front of my eyes tonight and Blake Lively and I talked about how lazy Santa is.”

Later, Ferrera shared a reel on her Instagram timeline showing the group posing in their outfits, where her friends honored Barbie with a pink theme. Lively wore a sleeveless dress in bubblegum pink with a fluffy skirt and elbow-length opera gloves, as well as pointed heels to match. Bledel had on a pink pencil skirt and black top and blazer with open toe pumps, and Tamblyn had on a pink suit over a white blouse. Ferrera was dress in a white wrap dress with long sleeves, black tights, and black shoes.

“The Sisterhood came through all in pink to celebrate my performance in Barbie last night. I love these women with all my heart,” Ferrera wrote in the caption.

The original film The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants was based on the novel of the same name written by Ann Brashares and it follows four girls who pass around a pair of jeans that magically fits them all, keeping them connected as their lives start to change. The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2 was released in 2008, and there has been a lot of discussion over the years about doing a third installment.

In 2018, Bledel discussed the group's enduring friendship, and said on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon , “We don't get to see each other a lot because everybody's work or family and everything...But when everybody is in town we do, and we just pitched a third movie and I hope it comes together. It would be so great.”

Lively told Entertainment Tonight soon after, “I think it could really happen. I think that people who love the movie want to see it. So, I mean, fans have gotten bigger movies made.”

In 2019, Ferrera also told ET that the dream was still alive, saying, “Fingers crossed that something comes to fruition with that, but it's been a vision and a dream of ours for a while now...We're all moms now. We've all got a lot going on, but we've got a beautiful friendship and we love these movies and we love this story and our friendship together [and] the friendship of these girls. So, we're sticking with it and we'll see what happens.”

But with COVID-19 and various strikes shutting down productions, those dreams have been delayed. In 2022, however, Tamblyn renewed hope for fans on Sirius XM's Pop Culture Spotlight with Jessica Shaw .

“It's very complicated for a lot of reasons, some of which include just the fact that between the four of us, we all have, like, 870 children,” she joked. “I know that that is a great hope for all four of us, is to be able to work together again. To me, it feels like the ultimate grift where I'm like, ‘Wait a minute, we're gonna get paid to hang out when we do that in real life anyway? Cool. I'm in.’”

The hang out has started early.
