Gulmarg is located at an elevation of 2730 metres above sea level and is a notified area committee in the Indian Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. It is 31 kilometres (19 miles) from Baramulla and 49 kilometres (30 miles) from Srinagar. Sonamarg is a beautiful hill station in Jammu and Kashmir, approximately 80 kilometres north of Srinagar. It is at a height of approximately 2,730 metres above sea level, on the bank of the flowing Sindh River. The Gurez Valley is a stunning natural location in Jammu and Kashmir, located in the high Himalayas around 86 kilometres (53 miles) north of Srinagar and 123 kilometres (76 miles) south of Bandipore. Gurez Valley is situated at an elevation of 2400 metres above sea level and the weather is always nice here. The area is ideal for photography, tranquil picnics, and hiking adventures. Verinag is a town in the district of Anantnag, where the Verinag Spring is a must-see attraction. Verinag is a town named after the Verinag spring and the Mughal garden. Verinag, on the route to Jammu, is a spring of great importance and beauty, with deep blue water that emerges from the bottom of a high scarp of a mountain spur, and this stone basin & arcade surrounding were built by Jahangir. This spring is well-known for never drying up or overflowing.

Emperor Jahangir constructed an octagonal pavement around the spring. The Emperor was so taken with the beauty of Verinag that when he died at Chengas village near Rajouri, he requested to be buried there. And after finishing the design for the spring and the adjoining garden, he said that the traveller who travelled around the world can rarely give any example of another site of such beauty.

At this location, a tourist bungalow, a rest house, and some shelters have been built. A Mughal Garden also stands right in front of this spring. The beautiful garden next to it was built by Shah Jahan. This tourist resort is located in Tehsil Shahabad Bala, approximately 26 kilometres from Anantnag Town. The spring is the main source of the River Jhelum. The Archaeological Survey of India has designated Verinag Spring and the Mughal Arcade surrounding it as a Monument of National Importance.

According to folklore, goddess Vitasta (Jhelum) planned to take her rise from here, but when she arrived, Shiva was already here, so she had to return and take her rise from Veravurthur, a spring approximately one mile to the north-west of this location. Virah means ‘to return’ in Sanskrit, and nag signifies a water spring, therefore because Vitasta had to return from this location, it became known as Virahnag or “Vernag.”

Doda is a district located in the eastern part of Jammu and has plenty of opportunities for sightseeing and even adventure. The region is named after the town of Doda, which is located at an elevation of 5,000 feet above sea level. The district boundaries do not intersect with international borders or the Line of Control. Poonch fort, a historical monument with distinctive Mughal art and architecture on display is a remarkable sight with beautiful surroundings. Nature lovers are sure to fall in love with the beauty at Krishna Ghati, where the natural hilly greenery makes the landscape surrounding it breathtaking. Noori Chamb is a marvel of nature with scenic waterfalls. Fall for the charms of Dehra-Gali about 45 kms from Poonch with its sprawling natural wonders.

Aru is located at a distance of 12 km from Pahalgam. Lienmarg is essentially a beautiful wildflower meadow and one can enjoy the glory of Mother Nature here. This is located at a distance of 10 km from the town of Gulmarg and at an altitude of 8700 feet above sea level. The place is quite popular for its picturesque beauty. This meadow is quite attractive and is full of blooming wildflowers and is surrounded by grooves of pine forests.

Many tourists especially the trekkers and the campers, come to visit Lien Marg. This is also known to be the perfect spot for holding winter sports related activities. Lienmarg has recently become quite popular especially for the honeymooners. For reaching Lien Marg one is required to cross the Ningle Nallah and one even crosses a pine forest and then a sequence of beautiful glades follows. You can also hire a pony and ride to the place, if you’re not interested in walking down. There is no entry fees for visiting the place and the entire place can be seen in duration of 3 to 4 hours.

Kashmir Lakes

There are many charming lakes in the beautiful surroundings of Kashmir, so I will tell you about all the lakes.

The most distinctive landmark of Srinagar is divided by causeways into four parts, the Nagin Lake being one of them. It is not a lifeless water body. The lake is home of communities who have made their homes arraying from fishermen to houseboat owners. There are fields of lotus blossoms in parts of the lake, vegetable patches, shops and even villages. The best way to explore the lake is by Shikara boat. You travel will be incomplete if you are staying in Srinagar and not staying in Houseboat. The houseboats have all imaginable luxury in a unique and endearing way.

Gangabal Lake

Situated amidst the Harmukh hills of Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, this lake is clean and sacred. It is also known as Gangabal lake and this lake is the major lake in high altitude lakes and is considered to be the original source of Ganga and hence The place is also considered as the Haridwar of Kashmir and due to this the Gangbal trek is kept in the holy category.

Famous Garden

Overlooking the panorama of Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens adorned with terraced lawns, cascading fountains and bright flowerbeds. The beautiful gardens was bestowed by Mughal Emperor Jahangir for his wife Nur Jehan. Other than that there are also gardens, which are included in Mughal gardens. Nishat Bagh (11km) was designed in 1633 AD by Asaf Khan, brother of Nur Jehan. Chasmashahi, the royal spring of refreshing sweet water cherished by the Mughals, is surrounded by a Mughal Garden laid out by Shah Jahan in 1632 AD. On a nearby spur of the mountain is the ancient monument of Pari Mahal, planned out by Dara Shikoh as a Sufi School, surrounded by a beautiful garden.

Mughal Gardens

One of the famous places to visit in Kashmir, the Mughal garden is a splendid example of Mughal architecture, the Mughal garden also consists of three other gardens, including Chashma Shahi, Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh.

• Nishat Bagh , known as the Garden of Bliss, is situated on the banks of Dal Lake and is a part of the Mughal Gardens.
• In this garden built by the Chashma Shahi Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, you get to see fascinating views of the mountains, which is also situated near Dal Lake.

Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden

This beautiful tulip garden consists of wide variety of tulips with superb colors. And since tulips grow only in spring, garden is only open between the months of March to May. This place is best for photography.

Shalimar Bagh

The Shalimar Bagh is a beautiful Mughal Garden that is linked through a channel to the Dal Lake. It was built by the Mughal emperor Jehangir for his wife Nur Jahan and is a great and outstanding example of Mughal design. The garden is based on a design that is referred to as the Persian Garden layout. The symmetry in the design is remarkable and it is also linked to the Dal Lake with canals. There are three terraces to the garden which is a unique aspect of the garden.

This palace, situated on the stairs of Zabarwan Mountain, is known as Pari Begum’s palace. Pari Begum’s proper name was Nadira Begum, Dara Shikoh Begum, son of Shah Jahan, Dara Shikoh built this palace in 1650 for her Begum and you will see the beautiful architecture in it.

Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu

Srinagar makes it to the list of top places to visit in 2023

New Delhi: India's Srinagar makes it to the top places of 2023 to visit in Conde Nast Traveler's latest article, 'The 23 Best Places to Go in 2023.' The article describes Srinagar as, "an alluring and once hard-to-visit destination in the Kashmir Valley"... which, "is opening up for travellers in a big way in 2023, with new roadways making it easier than ever to get in and around."

When it comes to enjoying nature at its best, there is no better place than Srinagar. It provides a plethora of travel experiences including scenic views, monuments and architecture, handicrafts for shoppers, traditional feasts for foodies, and stays in off beat options like houseboats, glamping and waterfront villas.

Saumya Ancheri, Features Editor at the travel magazine, details the improvements being made to the city's transportation, stays, and connectivity to create hassle-free travel experiences for both citizens and tourists, "The Capital is also about to get a boost in accessibility, with a spate of highways and tunnels planned to open in 2023 that will, among other connections, make it easier to drive from Kashmir-across breathtaking landscapes-to neighbouring Ladakh, even in winter. Other side trips that will be easier to reach, thanks to the new infrastructure: Sonamarg (which translates to "golden meadow"), a stunning hill station that is poised for substantial tourism development in the years to come, and Pahalgam, an idyllic getaway that has long drawn travelers to its pastoral charms.

The latter will see, in early 2023, the opening of Shepherd's Barn, a cottage stay by Ramneek Kaur (whose family owns the Bollywood-favorite Pahalgam Hotel), which will add rooms to an existing program of craft tours and local activities under the auspices of the Shepherd Crafts Cultural Centre. With so much change underfoot, there is no better time to experience the area- and before everyone else starts to do the same."

Known as "The Jewel of Srinagar," the Dal Lake is the most exquisite of sights to behold. It is surrounded by 26 square kilometers and in addition to the famous Shikara rides, living on a houseboat is also an experience of a lifetime. You can shop at the floating markets and take a leisurely cruise.

Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden

With the largest Tulip garden in Asia, 74 acres in size, your best bet is to visit in March, April, and May. You can visit Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden anytime between 7.00 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. on all weekdays at just Rs 50 for adults and Rs 25 for children. Who needs Holland!

If you enjoy activities and adventure, the Venice of the East has something for you. The greatest time to visit Aru Valley is from July to September when you can go hiking, fishing, and horseback riding without worrying about the weather. Aru Valley is located in the Anantnag District of Srinagar, Jammu, and Kashmir.

Surrounded by lush green mountains Pari Mahal in Srinagar was built in the mid-17th century by Dara Shikoh, son of Shah Jahan, it used to be the emperor's summer retreat.

Dachigam National Park

Dachigam National Park in Jammu and Kashmir is home to a diverse array of flora and animals. While strolling through the park, you may come across the critically endangered Kashmir stag (hangul), a red deer found in India, as well as musk deer, Himalayan black bears, and a variety of unusual Himalayan birds such as golden eagles, bearded vultures, red Togo pans, and koklass pheasants.
