Hola Barcelona card information

Barcelona unlimited card, which solution.

The best solution for unlimited travel around Barcelona is to buy a  Hola Barcelona card . Unlike  Barcelona metro tickets , which are limited to a single use, the Hola card gives you unlimited use of all public transport in the Catalan capital. However, you must buy a card valid for at least 48 hours. The other possible passes for this travel card are 72h, 96h or 120h.

Visiting Barcelona with the Hola card is cheap?

Visiting Barcelona with the Hola card is a very economical solution. With its 48h, 72h, 96h or 120h options, you can visit Barcelona with no limit on the number of journeys or the number of exits and entries on the city's public transport network. It's much cheaper than buying individual  metro tickets  if you want to travel a lot during your stay in the Catalan capital. Bear in mind that, while the city centre is very pleasant on foot, discovering all the city's monuments involves a lot of travelling around a fairly large city. We therefore advise you to opt for the  Hola Barcelona card  if you are a curious visitor.

Which Barcelona travel card?

There are a number of different travel cards available in Barcelona. The best-known and most widely used is the Hola Barcelona card, which allows you to travel on the city's entire public transport network with packages ranging from 48h, 72h, 96h to 120h. This travel card includes all the  Barcelona metro  lines in zone 1, a return ticket on metro line 9S linking  Barcelona airport  to the city centre, the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC, zone 1) urban train lines, day buses and the Barcelona tramway (TRAM).

The second best-known transport card is the  Aerobus , the bus that links the airport to the city centre.

Where can I buy the Hola Barcelona card?

The Hola Barcelona card can be purchased at all Barcelona metro stations. You can also buy the Hola Barcelona card from metro ticket machines. This unlimited travel card is valid for 48, 72, 96 or 120 hours.

You can of course buy it in advance on this same page by clicking on the " Check availability " button.

Hola Barcelona Travel Card: The Ultimate Guide (2024)

' src=

So, you’re thinking about taking the plunge into the vibrant streets of Barcelona? Whether it’s the allure of Gaudí’s architectural marvels, the mouthwatering tapas, or the sun-soaked beaches that have you hooked, getting around the city can be a tad overwhelming.

Enter the Hola Barcelona Travel Card – a secret weapon for seamless travel. But with so many options out there, is it really the golden ticket you’re hoping for?

Well, given that I live in Spain and have roamed the lively streets of Barcelona more times than I can count (usually by public transport!), I’ve got all the info you need to know on what this card is – and, importantly, if it’s worth it for you.

In summary, what’s the deal with this card?

  • Free access to all public transport – metro, buses, trams, regional and suburban trains, and the Montjuïc funicular
  • Free metro travel to and from the airport (which is normally €10.30 for a return trip)
  • Choose between two and five days validity – so you only pay for how long your trip to Barcelona is
  • Note that you have to collect the physical card once you get to Barcelona, even when buying it online – but don’t worry, I’ve got the pickup points below

Buy the Hola Barcelona Travel Card here (it’s cheaper than buying it in person!)

What does the Hola Barcelona Travel Card cover?

If you’re thinking of making your way around Barcelona with ease, the Hola Barcelona Travel Card is a practical option. Essentially, it’s a multi-day pass that gives you free access to a range of public transport in the city.

That is, with this card in your pocket, you have the flexibility to hop onto the city’s metro, TMB buses, tram, the light rail FGC within Zone 1, take a ride up with the Montjuïc funicular railway, and even use the regional or suburban railway (Rodalies de Catalunya, Zone 1).

Basically, if you plan to use public transport during your trip (which you should, in my opinion), this is going to be one of the best passes for Barcelona based on your travel style.

Plus, if you’re traveling to or from the airport, the card covers the airport Metro line . It’s worth noting that without the Hola Barcelona card, you’d need a separate Airport Ticket for this route, setting you back about €10.30 for a return trip.

Grab your own Hola Barcelona Travel Card here.

You can opt for a Hola Barcelona card that’s valid for 48, 72, 96, or 120 hours. But remember, this starts ticking from the moment you first use it, not by the calendar day. So, if you start using a 48-hour card at 4 PM, it’ll be valid until 4 PM two days later.

What are the benefits of the Hola Barcelona Travel Card?

Exploring Barcelona can be simpler and cost-effective with the Hola Barcelona Travel Card. With versions ranging from 48 to 120 hours of unlimited travel, you have ample time and convenience to discover what the city offers.

The beauty of Barcelona often lies in its neighborhoods, parks, and the seafront. And while walking is a great way to soak in the city, the metro and bus network are easily the best ways to get around Barcelona .

The Hola Barcelona card lets you get around efficiently, granting you access to the extensive metro, tram, and bus systems. And again, if you’re coming in or heading out via the airport, this card covers that metro route.

If you need to pick one up after landing (whether you choose to purchase it in-person or  buy it at a discount online beforehand and then pick it up on arrival) or have queries, you can head to the tourist information offices located at both airport terminals.

What are the exceptions to the Hola Barcelona Travel Card?

While the Hola Barcelona Travel Card offers a lot, there are a few things it doesn’t cover. Specifically, you can’t use it for taxis or the NitBus service. It’s also not valid for the Aerobús, given that it’s operated by a privately owned company.

Despite these limitations, the card provides a comprehensive coverage of the city’s public transportation system. Just ensure you’re aware of what’s included and plan accordingly. Barcelona is an experience, and this card helps you navigate it better.

Is the airport bus included in the Hola Barcelona card?

No, the airport bus, also known as Aerobús, isn’t covered by the Hola Barcelona card. It’s operated privately and isn’t part of Barcelona’s city bus system. That said, with the HolaBCN card, you can hop onto the metro for free rides between the airport and city center.

While the Aerobus offers a direct route and certain conveniences, the metro remains one of the most reliable and cheapest ways to travel in Barcelona , including to the airport and especially if you’re using the Hola Barcelona card. Just remember to check the metro’s timings and routes, so you’re aligned with your flight schedules or city plans.

On the other hand, if you’d still rather have the convenience of the airport bus, you can buy a ticket for the Aerobús right here .

Who is the Hola Barcelona Travel Card best for?

The Hola Barcelona Travel Card is a handy choice for travelers aiming to maximize their time in the city using public transportation. If you’re planning multiple trips or hopping between attractions, this card offers both convenience and cost-saving benefits.

It’s especially useful for those staying in the city for more than a day and want hassle-free access to various transport modes.

For first-timers or those revisiting, Barcelona is packed with sites to see. The card eliminates the need to buy individual tickets, giving you more freedom to spontaneously decide your next stop.

Moreover, if you’re traveling with family or a group, having the card can simplify the logistics of getting around. Simply put, if you’re all about exploring Barcelona’s nooks and crannies without transport worries, the Hola Barcelona card is a solid bet.

Where can you buy the Hola Barcelona Travel Card?

You have a couple of options when it comes to purchasing the Hola Barcelona card. You can buy it directly in Barcelona from a ticket machine, or you can grab it online before your trip kicks off. Remember that buying it online gives you a discount compared to getting one in person.

So if you want to lock in that discount, buy your Hola Barcelona Travel card online here .

However, there’s a slight catch. If you opt for the online purchase, you’ll need to collect the card once you’re in Barcelona. Don’t sweat it though, there are several collection points for your convenience:

  • Airport, Terminal T1: You can find a Tourist Information Office at the Barcelona Airport. They operate from Monday to Friday, 8am to 8:30pm, and over the weekend from 8:30am to 8:30pm.
  • Airport, Terminal T2: Again at the Barcelona Airport, but with slightly different hours. From Monday to Saturday, it’s 8am to 8:30pm, and on Sundays, it’s 8:30am to 8pm.
  • Plaça Catalunya: Located at Plaça Catalunya, 17-basement, this spot is open daily from 8:30am to 8:30pm. There’s also an information booth in front of El Corte Inglés department store that’s open every day from 8:30am to 2:30pm.
  • Plaça Espanya: Head to Plaça Espanya, s/n – Avinguda Maria Cristina, where they’re available daily from 8:30am to 2:30pm.
  • Sagrada Familia: A tourist information booth is ready for you daily from 8:30am to 8pm.
  • Mirador de Colom (Columbus Monument): Located at Plaça Portal de la Pau, s/n, this spot is open daily from 8:30am to 2:30pm, but do note it’s closed on 1/1 and 25/12.

So, choose what works best for you and get ready to navigate Barcelona with ease!

How much does the Hola Barcelona Travel Card cost?

Here’s the price of the Hola Barcelona Travel Card based on the length of the validity period you choose:

  • 48 hours (two days): €16.40 (i.e. €8.20 per day)
  • 72 hours (three days): €23.80 (i.e. €7.93 per day)
  • 96 hours (four days): €31 (i.e. €7.75 per day)
  • 120 hours (five days): €38.20 (i.e. €7.64 per day)

Alternatives to the Hola Barcelona Travel Card

Barcelona is a city with a comprehensive transport network, and as such, it has a variety of passes and cards to offer. For instance, there’s the T-Casual card, ideal for someone making multiple trips over an undefined period. The Barcelona Card also offers free transport along with discounts to several attractions.

Then there’s the T-Dia, a one-day unlimited travel ticket without the perks of discounted entry to places. Depending on your itinerary, duration of stay, and preferences, it might be worth comparing these alternatives to the Hola Barcelona card to ensure you’re getting the best bang for your buck.

What’s the difference between the Hola Barcelona card and T-casual?

The Hola Barcelona card offers unlimited rides over a set number of consecutive days, making it a top pick for tourists looking to explore extensively in a short span. On the other hand, the T-casual provides 10 trips, not bound by consecutive days.

This makes it ideal for travelers with a more relaxed schedule or those not requiring daily transport.

Basically, the Hola Barcelona card and T-casual are both useful tools to navigate Barcelona’s public transport, but they cater to different needs. It’s worth considering your travel plans and choosing the best one for you accordingly.

Is there a difference between “HolaBCN” and the “Hola Barcelona Travel Card”?

Names can be confusing, can’t they? Let’s clear the air. The card previously known as “HolaBCN!” Card underwent a little rebrand in 2019. Its new avatar? “Hola Barcelona” or “Hola Barcelona Travel Card”.

But here’s the good news – the name might have got a facelift, but everything else remains the same!

Since both names are rooted in traveler memory, I’ll be interchanging between the two in this guide. Just remember, they refer to the same trusty card!

Where is the Hola Barcelona Travel Card valid?

With the Hola Barcelona Travel Card in hand, Barcelona’s public transport is your oyster. It paves your way for unlimited rides on the metro (Metro), city buses (TMB), trams (Tram), light rail (FGC, Zone 1), the Montjuïc Funicular, and Rodalies regional trains within Zone 1.

Why is Zone 1 a big deal? Simple. Most of the iconic sights that have made Barcelona world-famous are nestled right here.

Plus, it conveniently includes El Prat Airport, ensuring your city-airport-city commute is sorted.

Diving a little deeper: Rodalies trains, locally known as Catalan trains, act as a link between Barcelona and its outskirts. These trains reach destinations situated over 50 km from the city’s heart, but with your HolaBCN card, it’s Zone 1 where you’ll enjoy unrestricted access.

If buses are more your speed, you’re in for a treat. The card gives you a ticket to hop on any of the 100+ city bus lines operated by the city’s TMB company. However, do keep in mind that certain specialized bus routes, especially those managed by private entities like the Aerobús (airport shuttle) or NitBus, don’t accept the HolaBCN! Card.

Always good to double-check before boarding!

Beautiful tram in Barcelona can be used when you have Hola Barcelona travel card.

Is it worth getting a travel card in Barcelona?

In Barcelona, having a travel card can simplify your mobility and potentially save you money. However, if you’re planning to stay in Barcelona for an extended period, say, more than a week, a monthly ticket might prove more economical. This ticket gives you flexibility and cost benefits over longer durations.

Unsurprisingly, the answer on whether it’s worth getting a travel card while you’re in Barcelona depends on your travel plans and intentions in the city.

One other example is for those not arriving by plane and anticipating minimal use of the local transport. In those cases, buying individual tickets or opting for the 10-trip T-Casual card might be more sensible. It offers versatility without tying you down to unlimited rides.

Lastly, for the passionate sightseer, the Barcelona Card could be a game-changer. This card not only encompasses all the transport benefits of the HolaBCN card but also throws in either free or reduced admissions to a host of city attractions.

Can I buy a Hola Barcelona Travel Card from the airport?

Absolutely! The Hola Barcelona Travel Card can be purchased directly from the Barcelona Airport, making it convenient for travelers to acquire one right after landing.

(Although you can also buy the Hola Barcelona Travel Card online for a cheaper price than getting it in-person and then simply collect it at the airport once you get there!)

Where to buy a Hola Barcelona card in the airport?

For travelers keen on securing the Hola Barcelona Travel Card from the airport, keep an eye out for the Tourist Information Offices. Here’s where you can find them:

  • Airport, Terminal T1: Barcelona Airport operates from Monday to Friday, 8am to 8:30pm, and over the weekend, from 8:30am to 8:30pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Airport, Terminal T2: This location is open from Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8:30pm, and on Sundays from 8:30am to 8pm.

Remember, if you’ve made an online purchase of the Hola Barcelona Travel Card, these offices are also where you’ll collect it.

Bonus tip: Purchasing the card online offers a 5% discount, which is a neat saving for just a little pre-planning!

How do you use the Hola Barcelona Travel Card on the bus?

Using the Hola Barcelona Travel Card on the city’s bus system is straightforward and user-friendly. Upon boarding a bus, you’ll find card validation machines. Simply place your Hola Barcelona card against the reader until you hear a beep or see a validation signal.

As you board any of Barcelona’s buses, look out for the card validation machines, typically near the entrances. Approach the machine and tap or place your card close to the reader.

You’ll know the card is recognized when you hear an audible beep or when the machine’s display confirms the validation. This process ensures your card is active and valid for the journey.

And remember, even though the card offers unlimited rides, you should always validate it every time you board.

Touristic bus on the street. Barcelona City Tour is a new official touristic bus service that shows the city with an audio guide. One of the many advantage when you have Hola Barcelona travel card.

Does Hola Barcelona include the Aerobus?

The Hola Barcelona Travel Card does not cover rides on the Aerobus. The reason behind this is that the Aerobus operates as a private service and isn’t integrated with the city’s regular bus system.

However, there’s a silver lining for HolaBCN card holders traveling to and from the airport. While the Aerobus remains outside the purview of the Hola Barcelona card (and you can always buy a ticket for the airport bus separately here if you prefer the convenience it offers), cardholders are not entirely without airport connectivity.

The city’s metro system, which is covered by the card, offers efficient connections to both the airport and the city center. This provides travelers with a convenient alternative, ensuring they can transition between the airport and their Barcelona destinations without incurring additional transport expenses.

So, even if the Aerobus isn’t an option, your HolaBCN card still makes sure you’ll have a seamless airport commute.

Barcelona public transport

Public transport Barcelona: Travel cards & tickets Overview and prices (2024)

Whether you need a single ticket, a 10-ride T-Casual or a “Hola BCN” travel card, here you will find up-to-date prices and information. This will help you find the right ticket for your stay in Barcelona quickly and easily.

Our tips for finding & buying the right ticket for your needs will save you time & money during your trip to Barcelona.

All public transport in Barcelona is organised under a single fare system, run by the Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (ATM). This makes it easier for passengers.

The main tickets for visitors and tourists

Here we present what we consider to be the most important tickets for visitors and tourists. For the sake of clarity, we have not included tickets for longer stays, such as monthly tickets, annual tickets, etc. in this list.

hola barcelona travel card 2 days

Tickets for public transport in Barcelona: the choice is huge. Choosing the right ticket before you travel will save you time and money.

1) Single Ticket

If you want to use the public transport occasionally.

The classic single ticket is the right choice if you only use public transport occasionally. With a single ticket you can, for example, travel on a TMB city bus or use the metro.

Single ticket – current price

The current price (2024) for a single ticket is EUR 2.55. You can buy it from ticket machines.

hola barcelona travel card 2 days

Single tickets for the local transport companies TMB and FGC in Barcelona. These tickets are not valid on the airport metro / railway lines.

Specific regulations of the single ticket in Barcelona:

attention

  • A single ticket does NOT entitle you to use the metro to/from the airport. You need to buy an extra ticket called an “airport ticket”, which costs €5.50 (one way) or €11 (return). Many visitors therefore buy the cheap day ticket “Hola BCN” (see below for details). This ticket includes metro or train service between the city center and the airport. In addition, it offers unlimited travel in all Barcelona’s public transport services for the period of validity (2-5 days).
  • Bus, metro and tram have different single tickets , which may not be valid in the other transport system. The 10-Ticket “T-casual” or the “Hola BCN” travel card will get you around this problem.

2) Travel card “Hola BCN!” for 2–5 days: cheap & easy to use

Unlimited travel on bus, metro, tram, suburban train + metro to/from airport.

The “Hola Barcelona Travel Card” is very popular with visitors to the city because it’s easy and convenient to use. You don’t have to deal with the fares and ticketing systems of Barcelona’s 5 transport companies.

One ticket, several names:

Until 2019, this ticket was called “Hola BCN! Now it has a new name: “Hola Barcelona Travel Card”. Apart from the name and the design of the cards, nothing has changed.

One ticket for almost all local transport:

The “Hola BCN” card offers you unlimited journeys using the metro (subway), city buses (TMB), tram, regional railway (Rodalies de Catalunya, Zone 1), urban railway (FGC, zone 1) and the funicular railway (Funicular de Montjuïc).

Hola BCN ticket: easy & cheap use of local transport including airport transfer. Tip: You can buy your ticket online – this will save you time and stress in Barcelona.

F ares and prices of the “Hola BCN” travel card (2024):

2 days validity: €17.50 3 days validity: €25.50 4 days validity: €33.30 5 days validity: €40.80

You can buy the “Hola BCN” card before departure via this website . This may save time and stress.

Buying the “Hola BCN” card – is it worth it?

#1 Save time and stress: Buy the Hola BCN travel card online. You can buy the “Hola BCN” card online – click here After a long flight, you don’t have to deal with fare systems and ticket purchase. You have already the right ticket to take the metro or RENFE train from the airport to downtown Barcelona and back.
#2 Access to top sights only with online tickets – tickets often sold out The spectacular Sagrada Familia church and Park Güell can only be visited with online tickets. Traditional ticket counters no longer exist. Only a fixed contingent of tickets is sold per day. Spontaneous ticket purchases on site are not possible In the high season, tickets are often sold out days in advance. If you would like to visit the sights, we recommend that you buy your tickets online well in advance: → Online tickets for the Sagrada Familia → Online tickets for Park Güell → Instead of buying tickets individually – the more convenient option – Barcelona Essential Pass : Barcelona Essential Pass = Hola Barcelona Travel Card (day pass for public transport) + Sagrada Familia + Park Güell + Sightseeing App

hola barcelona travel card 2 days

For some top sights, such as the Sagrada Família or Park Güell, there are no longer any ticket counters in Barcelona. Only online tickets are sold.

hola barcelona travel card 2 days

Even in the off-season, the crowds at sights such as the Sagrada Família are huge. Tickets are sold out days in advance. If you want to visit the top sights, you should buy your tickets online well in advance.

“Hola BCN!” Card – FAQ

If I buy a 3 day card, does it cover a full 72 hours from the time of purchase? You can start using your Hola BCN! card at any time of the day and enjoy all the benefits of unlimited travel for 48 (2 day card), 72 (3 day card), 96 (4 day card) or 120 (5 day card) hours from the first use (validation).

Is there a discount for children or a children’s ticket for the Hola BCN Travel card? Children under the age of four do not need a ticket. They travel free. Older children require a standard Hola BCN! card.

→ You can find more information about the HolaBCN Card here

Barcelona Card 2017

Barcelona Card: day ticket for public transport (incl. airport line) + 85 discounts at tourist attractions: some with free entry and queue skip.

Buying the “Barcelona Card” card – is it worth it?

The Barcelona Card is more expensive than the “Hola BCN” public transport card, as it includes many benefits for sightseeing & more. But if you are planning to visit some of the sights, the Barcelona Card can save you time and money.

The Barcelona Card also gives you priority access to some attractions (skip the queue). This saves you having to queue at the entrance.

Prices for the Barcelona Card (2024):

3 days: 53 euros / 30 euros  (adults / kids) 4 days: 63 euros / 40 euros  (adults / kids) 5 days: 75 euros / 45 euros  (adults / kids)

4) 10 journey ticket “T-Casual” former “ATM T-10”

Cheaper than a single ticket – airport transfer is not possible.

The 10 journey card “T-10” will no longer be available from 2020. It is now called “T-Casual”. The “T-Casual” card is suitable for you, if you have a longer stay in Barcelona with a rare use of the public transport.

With the T-Casual card you can use the metro, trams, suburban trains (Rodalies) or buses a total of 10 times.

The T-Casual card cannot be used by several people at the same time.

Prices for the 10-ticket (T-Casual)

A ride with this ticket is cheaper than by a “single ticket”. The ticket “T-Casual” currently costs (2024):

  • for one zone: €12.15
  •  for 2 zones: €23.90

It is available at the ticket vending machines.

hola barcelona travel card 2 days

The 10-ride “T-10” card no longer exists. It is now called “T-Casual”. This card is not valid for the airport lines of the underground/trains.

Specific regulations of the “T-Casual” ticket:

  • The 10-ticket “T-Casual” does not include the metro ride to or from the airport . A separate ticket (airport ticket – €10.30 return) is required. This is why many visitors buy the day ticket “Hola BCN” (see above) . This allows you to travel to and from the airport and use Barcelona’s public transport for the chosen period (2-5 days).
  • With a “T-Casual” 1-zone ticket, you have 75 minutes between the first and last validation when changing lines or mode of transport.
  • The T-Casual card cannot be used by more than one person at the same time. This was possible with the “T-10” card, which is no longer available.

5) Group ticket for travel groups or school classes

For larger groups, school classes, etc. there is no convenient group ticket.

HolaBCN Travel Card for travel groups

Many travel groups therefore use the HolaBCN ticket .

With this ticket you can use public transport cheaply and unlimitedly (including airport transfers by metro). Each member of the group gets their own card. This means that someone in your group can also travel individually.

For how many zones do i have to buy my ticket.

he price of the ticket depends on the number of zones you wish to travel through. A ticket must always be purchased according to the number of zones that the passenger is travelling through. A maximum of 6 zones can be paid for.

Most tourists stay in zone 1

Nearly 300 municipalities are involved in Barcelona’s public transport system. That’s why the area is so vast. Most of the tourist attractions and the centre of the Barcelona region are in Zone 1.

Walter Chan

If I bought the 3 or 4 days pass on line: 1) can I pay with a Euro credit card by a French bank; 2) where do I pick up the card on arrival in Barcelona.

webmail@publictransport.barcelona

Dear Walter,

thank you for your post. If you decide to book online a “Hola BCN!” card, you don’t book it via our website. We just show with our link, that you can book it at getyourguide.com, Europe’s leading company for booking tourist guides, tours and tickets. So you have the standards and service of a big company. Nevertheless we want to answer your question. 1) Yes, you can pay by credit card or PayPal. 2) After booking, you receive a voucher via email. Your voucher must be printed and exchanged at the Barcelona Tourism Office located at Plaça Catalunya, 17 or at any other tourist information point. There are also tourist information points at the Barcelona ElPrat Airport (terminals 1 and 2). So you can easy get yout ticket and use the metro, to get e.g. to the city center.

Julia Barber

Hello, we travel to Barcelona on the 4/1/17 and our party is 2 adults and a child. Is there a child price or is it just a flat one price for all? We would want the Hola BCN 4

Hello Julia, thank your for your question. Here the official terms of use of tickets :”Children under four are not required to have a ticket. All other passengers must have a valid, suitable and validated ticket.” There is no special HolaBCN! ticket for children older than 4 years. That means: If your child is under four you don’t need a ticket, if your child is 4 years and older you need a standard HolaBCN! ticket.

If i buy the hola bcn! Card online can i exhange the voucher in the AirPort? So we can use already from AirPort to centre of Barcelona? Many thanx

Dear David,

Your voucher must be printed and exchanged at one of the 17 Barcelona Tourism Offices or other tourist information points. There are two at Barcelona airport (terminals 1 and 2). You can exchange your voucher direct at the BCN Airport and use the Metro from Airport to City Center with your HolaBCN Card. So you save the money for the standard Metro Airport Ticket (4.50 Euro one way).

there is a “Turisme de Barcelona tourist information point” direct at Barcelona Sants railway station. There you can exchange your voucher. Than you can use the Metro, city bus… Opening Times : daily, from 8am to 8pm.

Brendan Swords

If I buy a 2 day HolaBCN ticket and activate it on 14/11/2017 at 10.00 does the 2 day period stop on 16/11/2017 at 09.59 or does it stop at midnight on 15/11/2017?

Hello Brendan,

a 48h HolaBCN ticket is valid for 48h after first validation. In your case from 14/11/2017 10.00 to 16/11/2017 09.59.

Enjoy your trip.

Cassey

Thinking of purchasing the Hola BCN for 4 days for the F1 in May 2018, but am I correct in thinking that it will actually run out on the 4th day – which for us would be the Sunday at 2pm as we arriving on the prior Thursday around 2pm?

Hello Cassey,

If you buy a 4 day (96 hour card) on Thursday 2pm, it runs out following Monday 1.59pm, not Sunday as you wrote.

Emily

Hi, thinking of purchasing the Hola bcn card for 9 of us for hen do in June. We will arrive on the Friday at approx 12:15, and we fly home on the Monday at approx 13:00, would we need the 3 or 4 day card to cover us for the whole trip? Thanks in advance!

your aircraft lands at 12.15? Due to waiting times, e.g. at the baggage claim, you will not enter the metro at Friday before 13.00. To depart Monday at 13:00, you must check in at the airport before 13:00. The 3 day Hola BCN! is valid for 72h as of the first validation. So from our point of view, the 3 day card is the right card for you.

Alkazri

Very informative! Thanks Hola BCN! We’re flying to Barcelona today. ???????

Linda Sampedey

Hi. Is the N17 buses included in the Hola Barcelona travel card?

The N17 Nitebus is operated by the private bus company Mohn. The Hola Barcelona travel card is NOT valid on this bus.

Have fun in Barcelona

Ken

I understand that a Hola BCN card includes a free roundtrip metro ride between the airport and city center. If I buy a 3-day Hola BCN card on Day 1 and leave Barcelona on Day 5, is my card still valid for a free return ride from city center to the airport?

The period of use for the HolaBCN card begins with the first use and ends in your case 3 days later.

David

Hello, can I use the HolaBCN travel card to Molins de Rei from Barcelona city centre?

Hi David, Molins de Rei is in fare zone 2B. The Hola BCN ticket is not valid here. Have fun in Barcelona

Aj

Hi, I would like to ask if I buy a HolaBCN 48 hours, can I use that from Granollers Centre to Barcelona city centre ? Are all the zones are covered in HolaBCN ?

Hello Aj, Granollers Center is in Zone 3 and is therefore outside the validity of the Hola BCN Travel Card. One-way tickets are probably the best alternative. Have fun in Barcelona

Ana

Hello, can I use the HolaBCN travel card to Montmeló station from Barcelona city centre? I am going to MotoGP and I need to get to Montmelo so I can after that use shuttle bus to the circuit.

Hello Ana, The “Montmeló” station of the Formula 1 circuit is approximately 15-20 km from Barcelona city centre (FGC zone 2D). The Hola BCN ticket is not valid here. Enjoy the race

Dayo

I’ve got two questions. 1/ how can I find out when my Hola BCN Card expires? I can’t really remember when I used the first time. 2/ I know the Hola BCN card is for TMB buses in Barcelona but why TMB app (I use a Journey Planner) shows me AMB bus?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Dayo, 1) Once you have purchased the Hola Barcelona Travel Card, you have 90 days from the day of purchase to validate your card. After that, i.e. after the first validation, the card will expire depending on the number of hours you have on your card. For example, if you validate the 2-day card (48 hours) on Tuesday at 8am, you can travel unlimited until Thursday at 8am.

2)The TMB app shows all buses TMB operating in Barcelona.

Have fun in Barcelona.

Hi, Thank you for reply. 1/ I know about this but the question was “how can I found out what time I first used the Hola Card as I don’t remember. But anyway someone told me it’s on printed on the back of the card 😀 Me silly. 2/ “The TMB app shows all buses operating in Barcelona”. Not true. I used the app and waited for a bus and then I found out from the driver that I couldn’t use his bus because it’s a different company (AMB). Then I realised on the app I can use buses with red numbers.

Ryan

Hi we’re a family of six and will be visiting Barcelona and it seems like the Hola Barcelona card is the best option. Will in need to buy one for each of my kids (ages 3,7,9), or do any of those ages ride public transport for free?

Hello Ryan, Children under four are not required to have a ticket. They travel free. Older children need a standard Hola BCN! card.

Enjoy your Barcelona trip

You can buy the Hola Barcelona Travel card in advance online here and exchange your voucher at a Tourist Information Office (including the Tourist Information Office at the Airport and Plaça de Catalunya).

Alternatively, you can purchase the card from the ticket machines at any metro station in Barcelona, including at Barcelona Airport, and the train station at Barcelona airport.

How Much Does The Hola Barcelona Card Cost?

The cost of a Hola Barcelona Card depends on how long you want to use the card for.  There are several different options depending on how many days you will spend in Barcelona.  These are the current Hola Barcelona Travel Card prices for 2024:

48-Hour/2 Day Public Transport Ticket: € 17.50

72-Hour/3 Day Public Transport Ticket: € 25.50

96-Hour/4 Day Public Transport Ticket: € 33.30

120-Hour/5 Day Public Transport Ticket: € 38.20

Children under 4 travel free, but everyone else will need their own Hola Barcelona Travel Card.

What is Included in the Hola Barcelona Travel Card?

Within the validity period of your Barcelona Hola Card, you are allowed an unlimited number of journeys on the following forms of public transport in Barcelona:

  • Buses (operated by the TMB Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona)
  • Montjuïc Funicular (not the cable car)
  • Urban trains in Zone 1 (operated by the FGC Generalitat city network)
  • Regional Railway trains in Zone 1 (operated by Rodalies de Catalunya)
  • The metro or train journey to and from the airport is included in your ticket.

The validity of the ticket begins from the first time you use it, it is not based on calendar days – so if first use a 48 hour Hola Barcelona ticket at 6pm on Friday evening, it will be valid until 6pm on Sunday evening.

The Hola Barcelona Card only includes the public transport listed above.

Aerobus Barcelona tickets are not included, nor are the Night buses (NitBus). No other entry tickets to attractions or tours in Barcelona are included in the Hola Barcelona Travel Card.

Is The Hola Barcelona Card Worth It?

This really depends on how many times you are likely to take the metro, bus or tram during your stay in Barcelona.

Before buying your Hola Barcelona Travel Card I recommend planning out your Barcelona itinerary so you have a better idea of your schedule and how many journeys you will take, and so whether the Hola Barcelona Card will be worth it for you.

In most cases, the Hola Barcelona Travel Card will save you money so I would say that yes it is worth it, but keep reading to make sure it will be cheaper for you.

Is the Hola Barcelona Card Worth it to Save Money?

Yes, if you plan to take enough journeys to make it cheaper than buying individual tickets.

Single transport tickets for one journey on the metro cost €2.55, so if you plan to take more than 7 journeys in 48 hours then the 2 day / 48 hour Hola Barcelona Travel Card will save you money as it only costs €17.50.

If you plan to take the metro or train from Barcelona airport to the city centre, then a single airport transport ticket costs €5.50, making the Hola Barcelona Travel Card even better value as you’d only need to take 2 trips from/to the airport and 3 other journeys on the public transport to save money.

Day tickets for the Barcelona metro, buses and other public transport cost €11.20 so the price of a 48 hour/ 2-day Hola Barcelona Travel Card is cheaper than buying two separate standard day tickets for the Barcelona public transport system.

If you know that you won’t need more than 10 journeys on the bus, metro or local train, including the journey to and from the airport, then the 10-journey ticket called a T-Casual (previously called a T-10 ticket) is better value as long as you don’t go over your 10 trips.

If you plan on spending 3 days or more in Barcelona and using public transport more than 10 times, then the T-Usual ticket is excellent value and cheaper than the Hola Barcelona card .  The T-Usual ticket lasts for 30 days and gives you unlimited journeys on all operators in the Integrated Fare System, including the night buses and the R2 train to the airport.

Is the Hola Barcelona Card Worth it for Convenience?

The Hola Barcelona card is one of the easiest ways to take care of your public transport in Barcelona if you plan on taking more than a couple of journeys over a period of 2 days.

If you only need to take a couple of public transport journeys it may not be worth it, but another benefit of the Hola Barcelona Travel Card is knowing that all of your public transport is taken care of (including the trip to and from the airport) so you don’t have to worry about buying other tickets every time you want to take the metro or bus.

The 10-journey ticket called a T-Casual (previously called a T-10 ticket) is great if you know you won’t need more than 10 journeys on the metro or local train, including the journey to and from the airport, but then you have to make sure you don’t go over the 10 trips or you’ll need to buy another ticket.

If you are spending 3 days or more in Barcelona then I’d say that the T-Usual ticket is the best value and super convenient as it has unlimited journeys.  If you plan on visiting several museums that are included in the Barcelona Card , this might be more convenient still as you’ll only have one card that takes care of your transport and museum entry.

Alternatives to The Hola Barcelona Card

The barcelona card: 25+ museums and free public transportation.

The Barcelona Card is an alternative to the Hola Barcelona Travel Card and is great value for money if you plan to visit several of the top museums in Barcelona.  You can read my full review of The Barcelona Card here to see if it is worth it for you.  Overall I think it is great value – if you are planning to visit the museums and attractions it includes.

As well as including unlimited public transport like the Hola Barcelona Travel, the Barcelona Card also includes free entry to over 25 Barcelona museums, as well as discounts to additional attractions and activities, and a free guidebook in 6 languages with a map of Barcelona.

Some of the entry tickets you get for free include:

  • a skip the line ticket to the Picasso Museum,
  • a skip the line ticket to the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC),
  • free entry to the CaixaForum, Moco Museum, Montjuic Castle
  • a skip the line ticket to the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) and the Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB)
  • and many more.

You can see the full list of included museums and attractions here .

Similar to the Hola Barcelona Travel Card, the Barcelona Card validity period begins from the first time you use it and lasts for 72, 96, or 120 hours after the first use.

Barcelona Card Prices

72-Hour/3 Day Barcelona Card: € 55

96-Hour/4 Day Barcelona Card: € 65

120-Hour/5 Day Barcelona Card: € 77

Children under 4 travel on public transport for free and don’t need the Barcelona Card for discounted entry.  Everyone else will need their own card.

Barcelona Card Benefits

If you love museums and plan to visit several while you are in Barcelona, this card is great value.  Even if you only visit one of these museums on each day of your visit you will still save money compared to the Hola Barcelona Travel Card:

Picasso Museum: online ticket price €15

Moco Museum: ticket price from €14.95 to €17.95

National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC): price €12

Even if you just visit one of these on each day that is at least €52 of entry ticket prices, and with the Barcelona costing just €55 for 3 days it is worth getting, and better value than the Hola Barcelona Travel card, as long as you are definitely going to visit the museums and attractions that are included.

Standard Barcelona Transport Tickets

Instead of buying a ticket that lasts for the whole duration of your trip, you could just buy the transport tickets as and when you need them.  The most common types of metro tickets for visitors to Barcelona are:

Single Ticket (Bitllet senzil)

A single ticket is one journey on the public transport system in Barcelona.  It includes transfers within the city limits for journeys on multiple metros, buses, trams and trains for up to 1 hour 45 minutes.  It is not valid for the metro stations Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2 on line L9 Sud, but you can use it for a bus journey or the Montjuïc funicular.  Cost: €2.55

Single Airport ticket (Bitllet aeroport)

Trips to the airport on line L9 are not included in the standard metro tickets, so if you travel to or from the airport on the metro you will need one of these airport tickets.  It is valid for a single metro journey to or from the airport on the metro network. Cost: €5.50

INSIDER TIP: The train (not the metro) from Barcelona Airport Terminal Two to Barcelona is included in the following metro ticket types:

The T-Dia is an individual travel card allowing an unlimited number of journeys to be made in one day on all operators in the integrated transport system, including buses, metro, trams and trains (including the airport train from Terminal 2).  Cost: €11.20 for 1 zone.

The New T-mobilitat Transport Cards

This is a single-person, multi-journey card that allows for ten separate trips on the metro, buses, trams, and suburban trains within Zone 1 of the Barcelona transport network.  There is no expiration time for the tickets, so you can use it across several days.

The only time you need to check the expiration date is if you are visiting Barcelona over New Year, as prices often change on 1 st January and tickets bought in the previous year are not valid for the New Year.

Cost: €12.15 for 1 zone.

NB: The T-Casual replaced the popular T-10 which could be shared between multiple people – the T-Casual cannot be shared, each person must purchase their own ticket.

T-usual card

A month-long travel card for unlimited journeys on all operators in the Integrated Fare System, including the night buses and the R2 train to the airport. It is great value if you are spending several days or weeks in Barcelona on a Workation or as a Digital Nomad.

Cost: from €21.35 for 1 zone

T-familiar Card

The T-familiar card is a multi-person travel card allowing 8 journeys in 30 consecutive days from the first validation, so it could be useful for families who only want to take one or two journeys on the metro. Cost: €10.70 for 1 zone.

I hope this has helped you to decide if the Hola Barcelona Travel Card is worth it for your trip to Barcelona.  If you love visiting museums then the Barcelona Card could be a better option for you, or if you think you’ll only take a few journeys on public transport then you can just get the basic transport tickets either in a 10 journey ticket or as and when you need it.

Happy travels!

I'm Claire and I love Barcelona! I first came to Barcelona as a student almost 20 years ago, and adore this city. I want to share all of my insider tips to help you to enjoy Barcelona as much as I do. If you want to visit Barcelona and have an amazing time – you are in the right place!

2 thoughts on “ Hola Barcelona Travel Card – Is It Worth It? ”

I noticed you didn’t discuss the T-usual as an option. It seem like a the T-usual is the best option for 4+ day stays. The T-usual (€21.35) plus the two airport transfers (€11) costs less than the 96 hour Hola Barcelona Card (€33.90). T-usual also includes the nitbus. What am I missing?

Hi Ryan, the T-Usual is a great deal but you can only access it by registering with the tmb app in advance so it isn’t the most convenient option. If you live in Spain you can get a physical card delivered to you, but they won’t deliver outside of Spain so the only option is to use the app and it didn’t work for me at all! That said I will add a section to the article about the T-Usual card in case you or anyone else can get the app to work. Thanks for your comment and I hope you have a great time in Barcelona! *ADDITION* actually it looks like you can buy it from the ticket machines, I’m not in Barcelona right now so I can’t test this out but if you manage to get one please let me know! Thanks, Claire
