Plans underway for 2024 Dream Home Lottery

Construction on the 2024 Rotary Clubs of Grande Prairie Dream Home has begun in Taylor Estates.

Tickets for the 31st edition of the lottery will go on sale in December, as organizers look to build on the success of a sold-out draw from earlier this year.

For the second straight year, Unique Home Concepts has been hired to build the dream home.

The new dream home, which will be just down the street from the home that was given away in this year’s lottery, will include four bedrooms as well as what organizers call “a few surprises for those that like to entertain.”

Lottery manager Melissa Coulombe says the home will be a stunning take on the modern farmhouse style, with a bungalow layout and dark, striking curb appeal.

Rotary Dream Home opens for public viewing

The Rotary Club of Grande Prairie’s 2020 Dream Home Lottery begins its annual fundraiser with the house open to the public for viewing as of Friday.

The dream home itself boasts 5,571 square feet of fully developed space, containing five bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms. The build was initially started in December 2018.

Rotary Club of Grande Prairie President Steve Madden said the annual dream home lottery, which has been in operation since 1993, regularly brings in over $1 million to be redistributed throughout the community the following year.

“Some years it gets up to $1.5 million but usually it’s well over a million dollars,” he said.

“We (then) turn that around and put back into the community to larger projects, and we do divide that up into smaller organizations.”

The lottery has raised funds to assist community projects such as the redevelopment of the D Coy Community Hub, the day shelter and the hospital foundation.

Volunteers from other non-profit organizations can often be found helping to monitor the dream home as the public is allowed to come in and explore the building before a winner is announced.

“You might find a nonprofit organization that’s asked for some time to monitor the home for us, let some guests in and that helps them with their fundraising as volunteers,” said Madden.

According to Madden, there will be a set limit on how many tickets will be available, though he did not disclose a final number.

“We’re looking forward to seeing those tickets sell for the good of what we’re trying to do,” he said.

The property is located at 5708 Poplar Lane in Taylor Estates. Tickets and packages starting at $100 are available for purchase online or in person at the home during viewing hours.

Grande Prairie Rotary Club announces location and builder of 2025 Dream Home Lottery

The annual Rotary Dream Home Lottery is celebrating its 32nd anniversary and has announced the lot and builder of the 2025 contest.

The 2025 builder will be Unique Home Concepts for the third year in a row, and General Manager Chris Newbury says he is “pleased” to be part of the Dream Home team for another year.

“To be honest the 2023 and 2024 fundraiser was a fun project, they allowed us to help raise some incredible dollars and show off what we do at the same time,” he says.

The GM spoke on the status of the 2025 Dream Home, saying it will be quite different from the year before it.

“I would describe the home as an ideal transitional home,” he says. “A blend of modern elements intertwined with vintage and traditional touches,” he adds.

Construction on the 2025 Dream Home has already begun in Carriage Lane Estates and officials describe the project as a “terrific opportunity” to showcase the area’s development through its participation in the event.

The 2025 home marks the 32nd in the city, and Grande Prairie Rotary Club President Robert Simmons says his club is excited to see the project continue its sold-out success in the future.

“[It is] a major event for our community and Rotary is proud to be a part of this fundraising event,” he says.

Tickets for the 2025 contest will go on sale sometime in late December of this year.
