Guide to Boston Cruise Parking

With tens of millions of people within a few hours of driving to the Port of Boston, many people choose to take their car to reach the cruise terminal. Of course, driving to the port brings up another question — what to do with your car while you are sailing.

As you can imagine, parking in Boston, especially near the city center has the potential to be tough. Your options are somewhat limited for cruise parking.

And what you don’t want to do is try to skimp and find street parking in the port area. Not only are you unlikely to find it, but leaving your car on the city street while you cruise for an extended period is asking for trouble.

Instead, we suggest you use the BRA-EDIC (Boston Redevelopment Authority-Economic Development Industrial Corporation) Marine Industrial Park Garage. The garage is the official port parking, caters to cruise passengers and is located just steps from the cruise terminal.

The parking garage address is 12 Dry Dock Ave., South Boston, MA 02210

Parking costs $25 a day for cruise passengers (be sure to bring some sort of proof that you are headed on the cruise). A week’s parking for your cruise is $170 and it’s $200 for 10-14 days. Considering the location and the expense of parking in the city, that’s a pretty good deal. You might be able to find cheaper lots farther from the port, but remember that you will have the added expense of transportation to the port from those locations.

Here’s what the garage looks like, so you’ll know when you’ve arrived:

Payment is accepted in either cash, Mastercard or Visa. There are no reservations accepted, but there should be plenty of room in the garage. If you have any questions, you can contact the garage at (617) 482-2487.

In addition, there is also an open-air lot (called the C1 lot) . It’s just west of the cruise terminal on the same side of the street. Pricing is the same as parking in the garage, and the walk is about the same distance.

We used this facility and I paid for indoor parking but was refused entry and instead was sent to the outside parking. The company acknowledged a mistake had been made but refused to give me a partial refund on my credit card. Instead they offered me a credit toward future parking, but it is only valid for one year. It is unlikely that I will be in the area in that time, so the credit is useless!

Flynn Cruiseport Boston

Originally known as Raymond L. Flynn Black Falcon Cruise Terminal, Flynn Cruiseport is a popular Boston port visited by half a million passengers each year from April to November. If you plan a cruise from this port and want to leave your car there during that time, knowing what to expect will save you a lot of time. So, we will provide an extensive list of everything you need to know about Boston Cruise Parking and the port itself. 

Boston Cruiseport is located at 1 Black Falcon Avenue, Boston, MA 02210— use this address for driving directions. Note that you should arrive at least two hours before departure. That way, you will have enough time to park your car, board a free shuttle, and go through security.

The closest airport to the cruise port is Boston Logan International Airport —it’s a 10-minute drive away. The fastest transfer between Logan Airport and CruisePort is a water taxi, but you can check out other transportation options , too.

Boston Cruise Parking

Boston Cruise Terminal offers safe and close-in parking, and you can choose between uncovered and covered parking structures. Parking rates depend on a parking service—see your options below.

After dropping your luggage, head to the South Boston Waterfront Transportation Center. Its parking garage is placed at 406 Summer Street, and it’s the most convenient parking option. Car parking spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis, but we suggest making an advanced reservation. Shuttle service to and from Flynn Cruiseport Boston Cruise Terminal is available, too. If the transportation center garage is full, you will be directed to the EDIC parking lot, which is situated at 12 Drydock Avenue.

Both Boston Cruise parking areas accept cash, Visa, and MasterCard. The rates are listed below.

Accessible Parking

Boston Cruise Parking offers a limited number of handicapped parking spaces in both parking structures. A parking discount for disabled veterans isn’t available at the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal.

Cell Phone Lot

The port’s cell phone lot is a convenient parking area for those waiting to pick up arriving cruise passengers. It is located at 22 Fid Kennedy Avenue, very close to the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal. The lot is open whenever any cruise arrives at Flynn Cruiseport Boston Cruise Terminal.

Cruise Parking Near Black Falcon Cruise Terminal

Official cruise parking is not the only option, but you don’t have many other possibilities. If looking for a cheaper alternative, you should know that there are no inexpensive parking locations nearby. 

The only cheaper option is the  Government Center Garage  and their Park ‘n Stay Package. It provides parking at $15 per day for those who want to park their cars for 3-30 days. However, you would have to use a taxi or Uber to the port of Boston since this parking garage is about 2.5 miles away.

Don’t use street parking for stays longer than a couple of hours if you wish to avoid getting a Boston parking ticket .

Boston Hotels With Cruise Parking Deals

If you want to come a day before your cruise embarkation, there’s another parking option for you. Some Boston hotels in the area offer Cruise Packages that provide free parking for up to 1 or 2 weeks and a complimentary shuttle bus service to the cruise port. So, you can get a good night’s rest and start your harbor cruise vacation in the morning worry-free knowing that your car is in a safe place.

Reach out to one of the best Boston Cruise hotels, such as Comfort Inn Boston , which offers free parking for the duration of your trip and shuttles to the port between 4 AM and 1 AM. If you choose this deal, you’ll have time to explore the city and check out Boston’s top attractions!

Boston City Guide

One of the best ways of checking out the downtown area is via the Freedom Trail, a long route that passes by over 15 historic sites. Nearby is the Boston Common park, a great place for relaxation and long walks, as well as Faneuil Hall Marketplace with numerous stores and a promenade.

Those interested in art should visit the huge Museum of Fine Arts. South Boston offers a beautiful peninsula called Castle Island – it is an ideal place for recreation, jogging, or picnic. Sports lovers who want to check out a Red Sox baseball game must go to Boston’s Fenway Park .

North Atlantic

The North Atlantic region has quite a few ports. It primarily sails to Bermuda, New England, and Canada. However, they also do trans-Atlantic and other specialty cruises from a few ports.

Pro Tip : Always label and prepare your luggage for easy transport . When driving, simply drive to the cruise terminal and hand over your bags. No need to fret if you need tape or a stapler — the friendly baggage handlers will assist you. Remember to show appreciation by tipping them before parking or returning your car.

Boston Cruise Port – Raymond L. Flynn Black Falcon Terminal (Massachusetts)

Simplify your cruise parking experience at the Flynn Cruiseport in the Seaport District near Boston Harbor. Park easily at Congress Street parking or take a free shuttle from your hotel. Boston Logan International Airport is just a quick 10-minute drive away. The MBTA Silver Line bus stops within one block of the terminal for even more convenience.

Parking will cost you $27 per night.

Parking at Brooklyn Cruise Port may seem challenging, but a constant flow of arrivals and departures keeps things moving. While the $45 daily fee offers stunning views of the Statue of Liberty, other convenient options are available, such as private taxis, Uber, shuttles, or the subway. For a unique experience, consider taking the train from Penn Station or Grand Central Station.

Cape Liberty Cruise Port (New Jersey)

Parking is slightly cheaper here than at Brooklyn’s cruise port and there are overflow lots during the busy season with free shuttles available. Cars run $30 per day and RVs $60.

Port Of Baltimore (Maryland)

I find the Baltimore cruise port one of the most accessible places to embark in the country. Parking is $15 daily (cashless) and you can walk to the terminal after parking. There is also RV parking for $30–$40 daily, depending on the size of your rig. Royal Caribbean and Carnival both offer shuttles to and from BWI airport.

South Atlantic/Florida

Welcome to the sunniest region in the world, where cruise passengers flock in droves! With state-of-the-art terminals and buzzing activity, this destination offers an incredible array of choices. However, be prepared to master the art of patience, as navigating through crowds can be challenging. As someone who has been on 54 cruises, I can attest that more than half of my voyages have departed from these ports.

Port Canaveral (Orlando, Florida)

Prepare to be amazed! Contrary to popular belief, getting to Port Orlando (also known as Port Canaveral) requires a 48-minute drive, as Orlando is not on the coast. Despite the distance and expense of transportation (an Uber is $98), Port Orlando remains the country’s busiest and most powerful cruise port. Your best option is to take the cruise shuttle from Orlando (airport or hotel) to save the hassle of getting there, traffic, and parking fees. If you decide to drive, however, keep in mind that parking costs $17 per day, including RVs.

Port Of Miami (Florida)

Discover the colossal cruise port just minutes away from Fort Lauderdale. PortMiami is a bustling hub, welcoming an impressive average of 12 cruise ships daily and 4.1 million passengers annually. Boasting 11 cruise terminals, it is the second busiest cruise port in the country.

While you can park at the port for $22 a day, I highly recommend avoiding the chaos by opting for Uber or a hotel shuttle. With my 10 years of experience living in Florida, I found navigating the port’s parking confusing and lacking proper signage. Thankfully, there are much simpler alternatives to reaching your cruise ship.

But fear not! Despite the initial challenges, PortMiami (known as the Cruise Capital of the World ) is renowned for its efficiency and seamless operation. Like a finely tuned machine, they ensure a hassle-free experience from start to finish. Indulge in the modern marvel that is PortMiami and embark on your dream cruise effortlessly.

Pro Tip: It is important to park in the garage that coincides with your terminal letter (example: Cruise Terminal B — Multi-Level Garage B); though terminals F, G, and V all use Garage G.

It is only 3 miles from FLL/Hollywood Airport and 25 miles north of Miami International Airport. Uber or Lyft is your best bet and is relatively inexpensive. Secure parking at Port Everglades (4,000 spaces) runs $15 per day or $19 for oversized vehicles.

Tampa International Airport is 21 minutes from the Port Tampa Bay Cruise Terminal or 90 minutes from Orlando (MCO).

Mobile Alabama Cruise Terminal (Alabama)

While Carnival is the only cruise line that sails from Mobile, it is an excellent option for those seeking a quick vacation option between Texas and Florida. Parking will run you $18 daily, though the closest airport is Pensacola, Florida, an hour away. This is definitely a drive to the cruise port destination. Check out the Mobile Carnival Museum or the USS Alabama in your free time.

Port Of New Orleans (NOLA, Louisiana)

A boatload of ships departs the Port of NOLA, making it the 6th busiest cruise port in the country. It is in the heart of the city with a plethora of amazing things to see and do. It is also a port for the three major river cruises (my bucket list!), which adds a feature most cruise ports don’t offer. Parking runs $25 daily at the Erato and Julia Street terminals.

Where to Watch the Boston 4th of July Fireworks in 2024

There are two things that matter most in Boston : summer and celebrating freedom. Naturally, Independence Day and the enjoyment of fireworks are tentpoles of any Bostonian’s summer plans.

Each July 4th, the city swells with activity: residents take to their roof decks, suburbanites ride the commuter rail into town to gather on the banks of the Charles River, and travelers from around the world come to catch a glimpse of this waterfront celebration of music and pyrotechnics that has enchanted our fair city for the last five decades. Whether you’re a seasoned local or a first-time visitor, here are the best places to watch Boston’s 4th of July fireworks in 2024, as well as the events where you're bound to find the crowds, the drinks, and the air of patriotism simply intoxicating.

The Charles River Esplanade

Watching the fireworks from the Esplanade —roughly between the Museum of Science down to the Boston University Bridge—is a quintessential Boston experience, although not suggested for the agoraphobic. Everybody else needs to go straight into the belly of the beast at least once: gates open at the Hatch Shell’s lawn at 9 a.m. (and lawn space fills up notoriously quickly) and the fireworks kick off at 10:30 p.m. If reserved seating is more your vibe, get a ticket to Community Boating’s annual SAILabration fundraiser, the only event that offers reserved seating on the Esplanade on July 4. It will cost you $100 per adult and $75 per child, but that price includes plenty of space to stretch your legs, as well as unlimited water and seltzer from Massachusetts’ popular Polar Seltzer, and Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream to beat the heat, so the cost of admission basically pays for itself.

Rolling with a 21+ crew? The Esplanade's Night Shift Beer Garden is a prime spot from which to view the fireworks and throw back a few craft brews. If you’re spending the day out with your pets, this could also be a good spot for your four-legged friends: it's one of the few outdoor bars in the city that allows dogs. Night Shift will offer extended hours from noon until 10 p.m. on July 4th, and will be debuting two new tipples: Firecracker American Lager and Daiquiri Sour, a strawberry daiquiri sour ale brewed with real strawberries. The sprawling space accommodates 400 people at a time and doesn’t require tickets for admission.

Nearby, the Liberty, a Luxury Collection Hotel is just across the street from the Esplanade and where the fireworks will be visible from the second and third floor catwalks that line the hotel’s cavernous lobby, which will be newly open to the public this year. Reservations aren’t required, but are highly recommended—especially if you want to score one of chef Lydia Shire’s signature lobster pizzas at Scampo afterwards.

From the water

Don’t forget that this is a coastal city with watercraft abound. Each Independence Day, the Charles River chokes with anchored boats awaiting the evening’s fireworks. But if you can’t simply score an invite on a friend’s boat, a rented kayak will do just fine: Beloved outfitter Paddle Boston’s launch location in Cambridge’s Kendall Square, just across the river from the Hatch Shell, is an easy five-minute row to the heart of the action. If they don’t have availability when you go to book, look into renting from the Boston location on Soldier’s Field Road—just be ready for a work out, as opting for this location involves about a one-hour paddle each way for the best vantage point. If being chauffeured around is more your speed than doing the paddling yourself, the Charles Riverboat Company is doing a rain-or-shine sunset sailing aboard the Lexington, from 6:45 p.m. to 11 p.m. Kick back and relax while enjoying an open bar, a dessert buffet, and an unbeatable view of the fireworks over the city’s skyline. Tickets are $250 and can be purchased via phone .

And if they’re sold out (which they usually are) there are tons–and we mean tons–of other opportunities to get on a boat for the 4th this year. Boston Harbor City Cruises will offer a dinner cruise on the Harbor side of the city (not the Charles River side)–and while you may not be right under the fireworks, it will still be possible to catch glimpses of them as you take in the city lights. For a more historic outing earlier in the day, City Cruises also offers an excellent daytime lunch cruise that brings you by several of the city’s most popular landmarks, and offers a waterfront view of the USS Constitution’s annual turnaround (once a year, she leaves her port in Charlestown to sail to South Boston, turn around, and come back).

Another pro tip for seeing fireworks from the water in Boston on the 4th–several operators offer tours to nearby Winthrop, located just across Boston Harbor from downtown, which offers a slightly smaller-scale yet infinitely less chaotic display. The Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships will set sail one of its gorgeous schooners from Fan Pier in the Seaport District to make the short trek across the water in time for the fireworks in Winthrop. The cheeky Tiki Boat Boston (a decidedly boozier, more adult-centric offering) also has some sailings available still.

For an even more turnkey experience, Martignetti Hospitality Group (of popular Woburn restaurant Sogno, twelve miles north of Boston) just launched Sogno-at-Sea, a 60-foot Azimut Yacht available for private charters complete with caviar, champagne, serving staff and all the lite bites you can handle. It’ll set you back $7,500 for twenty-five guests, but for some you can't really put a price on having your own sunset charter under Boston’s most iconic fireworks display.

From the sky

Forr something a little more… elevated, View Boston, an observation deck that occupies the top three floors of the Prudential Tower, is offering a special adults-only July 4th viewing party. The $75 tickets grant access to both indoor and outdoor views—making this a great option in case of inclement weather—and includes two drink tickets. Regular everyday admission starts at $29.99 per adult, so the inclusion of two drinks on Boston’s biggest night (not to mention golden hour admission to the city’s most coveted Instagram spot of the moment, without any errant toddlers ruining your shot) makes this a pretty sweet deal.

From Cambridge, Charlestown, and remotely

The classic spot from which to watch the fireworks in Cambridge is the grassy quadrangle at MIT, where a giant screen live-streams the Boston Pops concert. The view from this side of the river—with the city skyline in the background and more sweeping vantage points over the Charles River—might just beat being on the Esplanade itself.

For something with more local flavor, head across the Charles over to Charlestown, the oldest neighborhood in Boston—also known as “The Town”—where The Anchor , a sprawling waterfront beer garden, offers plenty of space to move around and a clear line of sight to the fireworks barge. And if you’d rather catch the fireworks from the comfort of your own home, tune in on Bloomberg TV, or WHDH Channel 7.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
