Pacific Encounter Itineraries

Pacific encounter review, review of pacific encounter.

The 2002-built (as Star Princess) cruise ship Pacific Encounter is the 3rd Grand-Class vessel constructed for Princess Cruises , with sisterships Crown , Diamond , Caribbean , Grand , Emerald , Ruby , Golden (Pacific Adventure since 2020) and Sapphire .

The vessel (IMO number 9192363) is currently UK- flagged (MMSI 232032840) and registered in Southampton .

In 2018, Princess announced that Golden Princess and Star Princess will be transferred to the P&O Australia fleet in 2021 and renamed, respectively, "Pacific Adventure" and "Pacific Encounter". The vessels' transfer was officially confirmed on October 21, 2020. Star Princess as Pacific Encounter started operations for P&O AU in November 2021 after a scheduled drydock refurbishment . In 2020, Golden Princess (as Pacific Adventure) already joined the P&O AU's fleet.

Princess Cruises' Star Princess was Bermuda-flagged (MMSI 310361000) and registered in Hamilton .

In May 2023 was announced that Princess Cruises' second SPHERE-class ship will be named Star Princess , joining the fleet in August 2025.

IMPORTANT : In May 2024, Carnival Corporation announced that terminates P&O Cruises Australia's operations and discontinues the brand in 2025. Pacific Explorer will be retired in February 2025 (sold or scrapped). Pacific Encounter and Pacific Adventure will remain based in Australia but will be transferred to CCL-Carnival Cruise Line and renamed. Pacific Adventure and Pacific Encounter in March 2025 will be taken out of service (for unscheduled drydocking) and after April will be operated by CCL. The other Carnival Australia ship is Carnival Splendor (year-round homeported in Sydney NSW).

History - construction and ownership

P&O Cruises  is a subsidiary company and two brands owned by Carnival Corporation - P&O UK and P&O Australia. In 2000, P&O Cruises became subsidiary of P&O Princess Cruises, which merged with Carnival Corporation in 2003. P and O is the world's oldest cruise company, starting passenger shipping operations in 1822 on the routes connecting England with Iberia.

Pacific Encounter Wiki

The Fincantieri Monfalcone -built Star Princess was christened by godmother Gunilla Antonini - wife of Dr Corrado Antonini (Executive Chairman of the Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri ). The liner started its 26-day Maiden Voyage (Pacific Ocean itinerary) on February 13, 2002. Star was the fleet's first Grand-class vessel, with sisterships Golden (Pacific Adventure) and Grand . The other (similarly-designed) boats from this series are Caribbean , Crown , Diamond , Emerald , Ruby , Sapphire .

Pacific Encounter (Monfalcone shipyard/hull number 6051) is powered by Wartsila-Sulzer marine diesel engines (models 8ZAV40S and 8ZAL40) generating total power output 63,36 MW.

Fun fact is, that earlier there was another vessel with the name "Star Princess"/ Columbus (former "Pacific Pearl" operated by P&O Australia ).

All public spaces were extensively cleaned and renovated.

Also were conducted general maintenance works.

The ship's last drydocking project was conducted in Singapore in 2023 (Feb 6-25). Deck plan changes after refurbishment 2023 included the installation of the Twin-Racer (142-m-long/16-m-high dualing waterslide) and P&O Edge Adventure Park (outdoor activity zone on Deck 16) featuring a 55-m-long Zipline, Cargo Net, Walk the Plank, Beam Walk, Rock Climbing Wall. New venues include Luke’s Bar & Grill, Byron Beach Club (pool deck), 400 Gradi Pizzaria (via partnership with chef Johnny Di Francesco), Black Circus Theatre (main show lounge), F45 Fitness Studio, Altitude (disco nightclub), Encounter Hotel, Bonded Store.

Cruises to Brisbane

See Australia in a whole new way on a cruise to Brisbane with P&O Cruises. Cruise Melbourne to Brisbane, Sydney to Brisbane and more, and explore a city rich with history, bustling with culture and awash in natural beauty.

Nestled between a mountain range and the sea, Brisbane is a city full of delightful contradictions. This incredible cruise destination  is home to towering skyscrapers and some of Queensland’s finest natural attractions alike, and is a place where it’s not uncommon to see financiers in suits brush up against surfers in shorts and thongs. Once a penal colony for the “worst of the worst” of British offenders, Brisbane has well and truly shaken off this heritage to become a thriving, cosmopolitan city.

Today, Brisbane abounds with stunning contemporary architecture, new infrastructure, and plenty of sightseeing and cultural activities. Thanks to its prime geographical location, it’s the perfect starting point for a range of coastal adventures. To make the most of your time in the Queensland capital, book into one of our many P&O Shore Tours . Whether you’re marvelling at views of surrounding hinterlands on the Gold Coast, enjoying an off-road escapade on Stradbroke Island, or cosying up with wildlife at Australia Zoo, there’s truly something for everyone.

Explore the stunning Queensland coastline

Ease into your Brisbane holiday and experience some of the best beaches that Queensland has to offer by joining the Gold Coast Highlights Shore Tour. Following a guided panoramic drive through the Gold Coast, a world-renowned beachside city, you’ll arrive in Surfers Paradise, the aptly-named heart of the Gold Coast. Head to the top of SkyPoint and be treated to spectacular panoramic views of the nearby surf, hinterland, and beyond. Then, stroll along the famous Main Beach and catch some waves, or head into town to grab a bite to eat and shop at Orchid Avenue.

Feeling adventurous? Book into the Stradbroke Island 4WD Escapade Shore Tour to enjoy a thrilling mix of scenery, beautiful beaches, and an unforgettable off-road adventure. Start your tour on a scenic ferry to North Stradbroke Island, enjoying views of some of Queensland’s most picturesque parts of coastline along the way. Then, buckle into your 4WD and drive down sandy beaches, bush tracks, and along hidden lakes. Finish your day with a dip in the South Pacific Ocean or Coral Sea, or simply lay back on the sandy beach and take in the abundant surrounding beauty.

Meet loveable local wildlife

No holiday in Brisbane would be complete without a visit to Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast. Founded by the late Steve Irwin, the zoo is home to over 1000 animals and hosts 14 free wildlife shows every day. Join the Crikey! It’s Australia Zoo Shore Tour for your chance to get hands-on with cuddly koalas, waddling wombats, slithering snakes, and cute kangaroos. The whole family will love visiting the world-famous Crocoseum, where you can watch a crocodile launch into attack from the water’s edge. You’ll return home with memories that’ll last a lifetime, in addition to a newfound appreciation for our native four-legged friends.

With a stunning riverside location, this vibrant inner city playground is very popular during summer. Take a dip in the lagoon, doze on the beach, or picnic in the park.
