Day 1 Tokyo

Welcome to Japan!

Your journey through this magical land of contrasts begins in Tokyo, a bustling metropolis known for its unique blend of tradition and modernity. As Japan’s capital, Tokyo offers an endless array of culinary delights. Indulge in its renowned street food such as yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), tempura (battered and deep-fried seafood and vegetables), or Tokyo-style ramen (rich and flavorful noodle soup). Explore the vibrant neighbourhoods and savour the diverse food culture that makes Tokyo a paradise for food enthusiasts.

Upon arrival into Tokyo, please make your own way to the starting point hotel. Take the evening to relax after your flight and prepare for your first full day of touring tomorrow.

Some flights may depart your home city the night before, to arrive on Day 1

Arrival & Check-in information

The easiest and most convenient way to travel from Haneda International Airport (HND) or Narita International Airport (NRT) is to book airport transfers using your Traveller Hub (booked 7+ days in advance). Alternatively, both airports have reliable public transport services into central Tokyo as well as the Limousine Bus which services many hotels in the central Tokyo area. For more information or assistance with these services, please check with the Passenger Information Desk after leaving the Baggage Claim area.

Special information

There are no scheduled activities today. If arriving prior to check-in time, which is usually from 2-3 pm, you are welcome to leave your luggage with hotel reception and explore your surroundings until check-in becomes available. Use this time to familiarise yourself with the hotel and rest before touring commences tomorrow.

Day 2 Tokyo

Ensure you allow enough time to enjoy your breakfast and to meet your Dedicated Tour Guide in the lobby at 9am. Your Dedicated Tour Guide will introduce themselves to you, confirm insurance information and highlight any essential information about the trip ahead.

Our exploration of Tokyo begins with a visit to Asakusa Sensoji Temple – the oldest temple in Tokyo – famous for its huge hanging lantern at the Kaminarimon Gate (Thunder Gate). Then, we’ll explore the outer grounds of the Imperial Palace, the primary residence of the Emperor of Japan. Previously home to samurai warriors, it’s a sprawling complex with beautiful 17th century parks in the heart of the city. Built on the site of the old Edo Castle, it is surrounded by a large park, moats and massive stone walls. Come cherry blossom season, it is blanketed in a sea of pink blooms.

There is arguably no better place in Tokyo to have a fresh sushi breakfast or lunch than at the Tsukiji Outer Market. At the market, you can find processed and fresh seafood, along with culinary-related items such as specialty knives.

No trip to Tokyo is complete with a visit to the famous Shibuya Crossing – the famed icon of the district alongside the Hachiko statue.

Your tour guide can provide you with the direction and guidance needed to make your own way.

Optional tours can be selected once you have finalised your tour purchase and paid your deposit. When completing your Passenger Booking Form, you will be asked if you would like to add Optional Tours, where any applicable cost will be added to your final balance. If you choose not to select them at this time, you can choose to add them later by logging in to your Account online.

Please note that you must select your Optional Tours no later than 70 days before departure, after which you will be required to purchase them on tour. Please keep in mind that anything purchased on-tour is subject to availability and prices may vary as you will be paying in local currency. We appreciate your understanding.

Pre/post accommodation  You can enhance your holiday by arriving or departing before or after the tour. On this tour you can choose from the following options:

Post Tour Accommodation

  • $0.00 per room, per night for double and twin share
  • $0.00 per room, per night for solo travellers

Please select the number of extra nights required in the 'Additional Nights Accommodation' field when making your purchase. The additional cost for these arrangements will be added to your final payment invoice and are subject to availability.

Upgrades  Not available

Bedding Configuration You will have the option to choose single, twin or double:

Single Travellers   When booking this tour, solo travellers will be presented with three options:

1 - Single Supplement

By paying an additional $1,473.00 per person, in addition to the twin-share price, you guarantee the privacy of your room throughout the entire trip.

Please note when choosing Single Supplement for this tour, your room will generally consist of a double or semi-double bed. Occasionally there may be a hotel that will provide a single bedded room for single travellers. All rooms provided to single travellers will be smaller than the twin rooms we recommend for two people. Unfortunately, this is typical for Japan, as the cost to solely occupy a twin-size room is incredibly high. We appreciate your understanding.

2- Shared Room with a known friend

If travelling together with a friend, you can opt to share your room with him/her and avoid paying a single supplement.

You and your friend can create a unique booking each. Creating a unique booking, gives each of you the flexibility of making different travel arrangements (such as adding extra accommodation, flights, etc), making separate payments and having individual access to our Traveller Hub

During the purchase path, you will need to provide your friend’s booking ID (if known) or at a minimum, your friend’s full name.

Twin Share Bedding Configuration At any time, bedding configuration is subject to confirmation by the hotel and based on availability. While you have the option to select either twin or double bedding at the time of booking, our recommendation when travelling to Japan is to choose twin bedding, as the rooms are often bigger than those that have a double bed. If insisting on double bedding, please note that the rooms will be smaller and more narrow. As a general expectation, we cannot always guarantee bedding at all hotel stays.

Triple Share Not available

Child Policy Children must be 5 years old or above and share a room with parents at all times. Children are charged the same price as adults.

Booking & Payment Terms

Payment Information  Secure your trip with a $99.00 deposit per person. Once we receive your deposit, we will send you an invoice with your remaining balance and payment options. Instalment Schedule:

We understand that there may be instances where your tour leader or local representative is unable to resolve a situation to your satisfaction. In such cases, we encourage you to request that the tour leader or local representative escalate the matter to their direct manager for further assistance.

You also have the option to share details in your online feedback after the tour. However, please keep in mind that it's challenging for us to offer practical assistance once the trip is completed. Therefore, notifying us while still traveling allows us the chance to address the issue in real-time and provide a timely resolution.

For general contact details please visit the Contact Us page on our website.

When your final tour documentation is released, this will include an emergency contact for our local travel partner while you are on tour. If this is not included in your documentation, you will receive this on arrival during your welcome meeting.

Your Tour Experience

Tour Pace This tour category is 3 out of 5 Balanced exploration with walking tours: This trip offers a good mix of planned activities and free time. Expect moderate daily walking tours, so pack comfortable shoes.

Japanese cities are best explored by foot and public transport, so be prepared for a lot of walking each day you are on tour. Many travelers are surprised by how much distance they end up covering while sightseeing and moving from one city to the next. Bring comfortable walking shoes and be prepared to spend most of the day on your feet. Good general fitness and mobility will play a big part in making your tour more enjoyable.

Group Size Day 1-14: Minimum 20 travellers Maximum 40 travellers

Day 14-18:  Independent travel

Escorted Style  A section of this trip runs as a group tour, where you will be escorted by a dedicated tour leader. In other sections, a local guide will meet and greet you, coordinate your activities in town, and be reachable to assist you as needed.

Tour Type  Our Classic Tours offer unparalleled value for money and are the perfect style of travel for those on a budget, though still eager to pack as much into their itinerary as possible. These tours tick all the boxes with an abundance of inclusions such as sightseeing highlights, expert tour guides, quality accommodation, transfers, coach transportation, some meals and more. Please note that the maximum group size will vary between tours and will be mentioned within the Fine Print of each tour page.

For the independent portion of this itinerary, you will travel from city to city on your own, exploring at your own pace. We have arranged transportation in most cases and day tours for you to see the destination. Enjoy the time and flexibility to linger longer or pick up the pace and see as much as possible. The choice is yours.

Ferry Ticket  Your tour leader on the main portion of your itinerary (Day 1-14) will provide you with your ferry ticket for Tokashiki Island in Okinawa. Please note that your tour leader is not privy to any other details of your Okinawa tour extension, though can provide you with some general travel advice or information.

Internal Flight Your internal flight from Osaka to Okinawa (Naha) is included and booked by our travel partner. This will be provided to you after ticketing and closer to departure with your final tour documentation.

  • Airport transfers
  • Travel insurance (compulsory)
  • Optional Activities
  • Personal expenses
  • Anything not mentioned in the itinerary

Optional Tours Depending on the package, you may have the option to pre-book optional tours through your Traveler Hub account. To secure your spot pre-booking these tours in advance is highly recommended. While some tours require a minimum number of participants to operate, you'll be fully refunded if the tour is canceled at your destination for this reason. Our optional tours are typically led by your tour leader or local guide. Please note that transportation to and from the optional tours is not included, but your tour leader or local guide will be happy to assist you with navigating public transportation options like trains or taxis to reach the starting point.

Traveling in a group Traveling in a group means you will experience both the pleasures and perhaps at times, some of the frustrations of traveling with people you don’t know. The good news is you all have at least one thing in common: a love of travel and exploration. Your fellow travelers will probably come from different parts of the world, and fall into different age groups. We ask you to be understanding of the various needs and preferences of your group — patience with your fellow travelers is sometimes required for the overall benefit of the group. If you are requested to be at a place at a certain time, please ensure that you respect this request from your tour leader or local guide. Due to privacy reasons, we are unable to provide you with contact details and any personal information about your fellow travelers booked on your trip before departure.

Community Guidelines Inspiring Vacations does not tolerate any kind of violence, harassment (whether physical, verbal or sexual), or disrespect toward fellow travelers, our teams (Inspiring Vacations Tour Leaders and local expert guides) or local communities.

Any behavior that prevents your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader from continuing the itinerary as planned, breaks local laws or opposes any of these guidelines, may result in Inspiring Vacations removing you from the tour.

If something concerns you during your travels, please speak to your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader immediately. Alternatively, when you are on-tour and require immediate support you can contact our Customer Support team and select the “On-Tour” option when listening to the options.

Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader vs. Local Guide While both tour leaders and local guides enrich your travel experience, their roles differ. Tour leaders, who often accompany you for the entire trip, handle logistics, ensure smooth sailing of the itinerary, and act as your point of contact for any concerns. They might provide general information about destinations, but in-depth historical or cultural knowledge often comes from local guides. Local guides, frequently native to the area, lead tours at specific sites or attractions, offering a deeper understanding of the local history, art, or way of life.

Due to Japan's popularity, it has been necessary to go outside our traditional route for employing tour leaders. As a result, our passionate, professional and trained Tour Leaders may either be Japanese or long-term foreign residents of Japan.

Coach Transportation  The size of your coach will comfortably accommodate your group. There's usually room for some extra seats, ensuring a relaxing journey. Your luggage will be safely stored either underneath the coach or in a dedicated trailer.

While the exact coach style may vary depending on the departure, all our coaches offer comfortable seating. Keep in mind that Wi-Fi and charging outlets might not always be available. To stay connected and avoid dead batteries,  we recommend fully charging your devices beforehand or bringing a portable charger.

For longer journeys, we'll make sure to include ample restroom breaks along the way, so you can freshen up and recharge at your convenience, as facilities are not on-board the coach.

Itinerary Changes  Sometimes, unexpected things can happen, like unpredictable weather or higher-than-usual crowds at attractions. In these situations, your tour leader might need to adjust the itinerary slightly to improve your overall experience. For example, in Japan, if the cherry blossoms haven't bloomed yet at a planned stop, your leader might take you to a different location known for its vibrant blooms.

This flexibility ensures you get the most out of your trip! Your tour leader will always keep you informed of any changes and explain the reasoning behind them. Remember, when traveling with a group, sometimes going with the flow can lead to even more amazing experiences.

Staying Connected If you want to stay connected and access reliable internet while on tour, there are a few options available. It is possible to purchase a virtual sim and we recommend contacting your mobile phone provider for assistance in doing so. You can add a roaming data plan to your existing phone contract is another option, albeit an expensive one. You will need to arrange this before departure. Purchasing a local SIM at the airport in Japan is the final option. For a prepaid fee, you can get data by simply swapping your current SIM with your new Japanese SIM and depending on which package you purchase, you’ll be able to text and make phone calls, just as you would at home.

We also recommend downloading WhatsApp and using this to communicate with other group members while on tour, and of course, after the tour if you’d like to stay in touch. Our tour leaders may also use this as a means of communicating essential trip information with you, as well as if you choose to add-on transfers to your booking, as your driver may use this to confirm arrangements with you.

Getting Around While touring Japan, you will be traveling to each place by dedicated, private coaches and trains (where included in your selected itinerary), including riding the iconic Shinkansen , or bullet train. Expect some long travel journeys on the coach but rest assured there will be comfort stops along the way where you can freshen up, stretch your legs, use the bathroom and often, purchase refreshments. Generally, lunch stops will be taken at rest stops as they can easily accommodate our large groups.

If you’re arriving in Japan before your tour commencing and exploring on your own, Japanese public transport is world-class and it’s simpler to get around than you may think. While there are many different lines, from regular express trains to underground metros and of course, the famous Shinkansen (bullet train), all are easy to navigate. Most train stations even have platform signage in English and Japanese, as well as symbols denoting regular or bullet trains. When in doubt, consult a staff member – if they don’t speak English, they can point you to someone who does. Alternatively, get familiar with a maps app before your trip (like Google Maps); many provide detailed transport information, right down to the platform trains will depart from.

Hotel Ratings To give you the most accurate picture possible, we don't just rely on a single source for hotel ratings. We go beyond by researching various trusted travel websites like Tripadvisor and Booking.com. This allows us to analyze a wider range of genuine customer reviews and experiences, giving you a well-rounded understanding of the hotel's typical star rating.

This means you can book with confidence, knowing the hotel has a strong track record of satisfied guests.

Accommodation Details In Japan, hotels commonly used for group touring are known as Business hotels. These hotels offer affordable accommodation and although the rooms are typically small, averaging between 15m2 to 20m2, they are clean, well-maintained, and equipped with a private bathroom featuring a toilet, sink, and shower. Some rooms may have a shower over a small bath. Overall, a comfortable place to rest and recharge before a full day of sightseeing.

These hotels generally provide essential amenities like soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, cotton buds, shower caps, and towels. Additionally, most rooms are furnished with a television, air conditioner, hairdryer, empty refrigerator, and a water boiler with complimentary green tea bags. However, it's important to note that not all hotels may offer these amenities, so we recommend traveling with any essentials and creature comforts you deem necessary. If there are any concerns, please speak to the hotel staff.

On every two or three floors of these hotels, you may find a common room with vending machines, and some may have coin-operated washing machines and dryers. There might also be a clothing iron available, but if not, you can request one from the hotel reception, and if available, it will usually be brought directly to your room. It's worth noting that not all hotels provide laundry facilities. Once you receive your documentation (14-30 days before departure), to best prepare yourself, read up on the facilities available at each hotel. If you require a specific need while on tour, such as laundry facilities or money exchange service, speak to Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader who will be able to assist you. The hotels used are conveniently located near convenience stores and transportation options, making it easy to purchase any forgotten essentials, snacks, or on-the-go lunch options.

Generally, these Business hotels offer a buffet-style breakfast with a mix of Japanese and Western food choices. Since you'll be traveling in a foreign country, we encourage you to approach all your dining experiences with an open mind and a sense of adventure, as Western-style dining options may not always be readily available. If you have any specific dietary requirements, please consult your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader to check if your needs can be accommodated. Additionally, we suggest bringing along some of your favorite snacks from home in case the local cuisine may not align with your preferences.

Travel Tip: twin rooms are usually slightly bigger than double rooms in Japan, so if you want a little more space, we suggest requesting a twin room throughout but keep in mind these are subject to availability. We strongly recommend only traveling with one piece of luggage per person due to room sizes and you will be responsible for handling your luggage at all times.

Packing Essentials What you need to pack for your tour will vary according to the trip style you have chosen, the countries you are visiting and when you are traveling. We recommend you pack as lightly as possible, ensuring that you can carry and lift your luggage, and walk with it for short distances or up or down a flight of stairs.

A lockable suitcase with wheels is ideal for this trip. It is recommended that you keep your main luggage weight around 15kg and no more than 20kg. A small or medium-sized backpack (45-50 liters) is another good option. You'll also need a day pack/bag to carry water, a camera, a jacket, and your essentials while touring during the day.

In Japan, you will need to manage your luggage for the most part. Train stations are quite complex and usually require a lot of stair climbing, especially when doing a quick transfer from train to train. Elevators aren't always available and cannot accommodate many people at a time, so if you are choosing to bring a suitcase, please ensure you can lift and carry it up and down stairs by yourself without difficulty. A backpack is often preferred by travelers for this reason, but the decision is yours. Our ryokans allow suitcases but you'll need to carry them, not wheel them onto the tatami floor in your room.

Climate Japan has four distinct seasons with a climate ranging from subarctic in the north to subtropical in the south. You may notice a difference in weather conditions depending on whether you’re on the Pacific or the Sea of Japan side. Northern Japan has warm summers and very cold winters with heavy snow in mountainous areas. Eastern Japan has hot and humid summers and winters are often cold with snow in mountainous areas. Western Japan has very hot and humid summers with mild winters. Read more about Japan’s climate or watch our video here .

Cherry Blossom Viewing  Some of our selected Japan itineraries will have departures that fall over the popular Cherry Blossom season, which changes year to year depending on the forecast. The magic of cherry blossoms in Japan is undeniable, however, like all things in nature, the exact bloom times can vary depending on weather conditions.

While we can't control the whims of Mother Nature, we can embrace the spirit of Hanami (flower viewing). This philosophy celebrates the fleeting beauty of the blossoms, reminding us to cherish the present moment.

Therefore, depending on your departure date, some locations on our itinerary might not be in full bloom. The beauty of Japan extends far beyond the blossoms. We may encounter early blooms in some areas or visit breathtaking landscapes elsewhere. Let's embrace the surprise and enjoy the journey together!

Currency and ATMs The currency used in Japan is the Yen. Most chains and hotels will accept cards. Convenience stores are the best places to withdraw cash as almost every store is fitted with an ATM that accepts foreign cards. There are over 20,000 7-Eleven stores across the country, in addition to chains like Lawsons and Family Mart.

Food and Allergies While traveling with Inspiring Vacations you'll enjoy iconic sightseeing, as well as experience the vast array of culinary offerings in Japan. While many meals will be eaten together with your group, not all meals are included in your tour which gives you maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat. If you have dietary requirements and/or food allergies, please let our Customer Support Team know before departure. Your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader or local representative will also be able to give suggestions on which restaurants to try during your trip.

The Japanese daily diet contains gluten (i.e. in flavorings such as soy sauce) and seafood (dashi, or fish stock, is the basis of most dishes, even vegetables), so we highly recommend that vegetarians, vegans and coeliacs do their research about the options that might be available to them before departure. While our leaders will assist you where they can, there may be some included meals that are decided in advance and therefore cannot be altered or modified for different diets (such as those included meals at Ryokans). For those with a particular food allergy, your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader will endeavor to advise the main ingredients in the dishes consumed. It is, however, still your responsibility to ensure that you do not ingest any problematic ingredients.

Onsens Visiting a traditional Japanese onsen , or hot spring, is a quintessential local experience while on tour. In a public onsen, this means bathing naked with others of the same sex. While the experience may feel uncomfortable at first, most groups end up enjoying this activity and are pleased they participated. There is very specific etiquette for visiting onsens - your Tour Leader can give you some tips and instructions. Please be aware that travelers with tattoos may not be permitted to enter public onsens. Private onsens may also be available - talk to your leader for more information.

Local Customs It's always a good idea to learn something about local customs before you travel, and visiting Japan is no exception. Your leader will be on hand to guide you through cultural differences during your trip.

Please note, decorative tattoos are uncommon in Japanese culture and therefore you may receive curious and sometimes disapproving looks from locals. Generally, comments about your tattoos are not common, but please endeavor to wear modest clothing and check the rules for bathing in public onsens.

Dress Code While Japan is known for its eclectic fashion in some cities, overall it is quite a conservative country. Please remember while on tour you will visit temples, working monasteries, holy shrines, recreated villages and castles, cooking schools and ancient gardens. While visiting such places, especially those of religious significance, it is important to be respectful to the staff and other visitors by wearing modest clothing that covers your shoulders and knees.

Responsible Dining We are big supporters of the protection of endangered species around the world. Although a global ban on commercial whaling came into effect in 1986, approximately 1,000 whales are still being killed every year. We do not visit places that serve whale meat on any of our trips, nor will your leader guide you to where it is offered.

Tipping Your Leader While gratuities are not included in your tour price, tips are a welcome gesture of appreciation. Tipping is, of course, at your discretion and the amount is entirely a personal preference, however, US$8-10 per person, per day (or the equivalent in the local currency), is a good guide.

Peak Travel Times Please be aware that while traveling during major national holidays (late April to early May in Japan) and peak seasons in Japan (April-May/September–October) are fascinating times to travel, there are also some downsides to consider. There will be huge crowds at most tourist attractions and on all public transport. It's often difficult to secure train tickets at preferred times, and traffic jams and changes to the itinerary without prior notice can sometimes be necessary. If you decide to travel during peak periods, come with a sense of adventure and flexibility and you will still have a memorable experience.

Safety and Security Most national governments provide regularly updated foreign travel advice on safety issues involved with international travel. We recommend that you check your own government's advice for the most up-to-date travel information before departure and ensure that your travel insurance covers you for all destinations and activities on your trip.

Your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader or local representative will accompany you on all included activities listed on the itinerary, however, you'll have some free time to explore on your own if you wish. While your Inspiring Vacations tour leader or local guide will assist you as best they can with your requests and the options available outside your itinerary, please note Inspiring Vacations makes no representations about the safety of the activity or the standard of the operators running the activity. Please use your judgment when selecting an activity in your free time.

Please also note that your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader or local representative has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it's deemed necessary due to safety concerns.

Apps to Download   Some useful apps you may want to consider downloading before your tour include Google Translate, the lens function is especially useful when wanting to read product labels, signs, and menus. Google Maps with offline maps downloaded is great for easy navigation without being reliant on wifi. The most widely used taxi app is GO Taxi. We also recommend downloading WhatsApp before you leave and using this to communicate with other group members while on tour. For those visiting during cherry blossom season, the Sakura Navi app (developed by the Japan Meteorological Corporation) is a must—it tracks the cherry blossom forecast in real-time for the entire country.

Post-Tour Feedback Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive a link to a post-purchase survey, which is your opportunity to share your feedback with us on your booking experience and interactions with our Sales and Customer Success teams. This feedback is invaluable to ensure that we are servicing our customers to the best of our ability.

Furthermore, towards the end of your travels and while you are in your destination, you will receive an email from us with a link to an in-depth trip survey. It is very important to us that we hear from our customers to ensure that we continue to meet and exceed customers' expectations, so this will be your opportunity to let us know how your trip has been, what has worked well and potentially what could be improved.

Finishing Point  Your finishing hotel may differ from the original itinerary. Please refer to your final documentation which will be provided approximately 14-30 days before departure for your confirmed hotel list. If you need to book additional post-tour accommodation, please do so once you have the final hotel list. We recommend booking a flexible rate that can be changed or canceled without penalty should there be any unforeseen changes to your booking.

Travelers will depart at various times throughout the day depending on flights booked. Check-out time is generally from 10am-12pm. You are welcome to leave your luggage at the hotel reception and spend your final moments of free time exploring the area or please speak with hotel staff if you would like to extend your check-out time. This service is subject to availability and will likely come at an additional cost payable directly.

Departure Details  Airport transfers are not included as part of your package. However, we trust that your journey from the hotel to the airport will be comfortable and hassle-free.

As an added service, we do offer airport transfers at an additional cost which can be booked via your Traveler Hub.  We recommend you wait until you receive your final documentation to book transfers as your start and end hotels will only be confirmed at this point. Please note that if you are choosing to book an independent airport transfer service, your Tour Leader cannot be held responsible for any unforeseen circumstances that may arise, nor can they resolve any concerns that you may have with your transfer service.

Alternatively, Japan’s public transport system is very efficient and reliable.

To make your way to the airport from the hotel, there are various connections by express train or limousine bus. The hotel concierge can provide helpful advice, too.

FAQs for Japan

What is okinawa famous for.

Okinawa is famous for offering a plethora of watersports activities, some of the cleanest beaches of the world, a very long life expectancy for the island natives and some really delicious food.

When is the best time to visit Okinawa for snorkeling?

If snorkeling is on your mind, avoid visiting Okinawa during the months of May to June, which is the rainy season here. During this time, the sea conditions are too rough to go surfing or snorkeling. Also, the ocean water is too muddy to enjoy exploring the marine life.

What is the single most popular dish to have in Okinawa?

The Beniimo tart is probably the most famous and most popular dish to have in Okinawa. It is tart filled with a paste of the Beni ino sweet potato that is purple in color, and has a very sublime taste. You can only find the original version of this tart in Okinawa.

What is the prevalent language spoken in Okinawa?

The people of Okinawa do not speak Japanese, instead their language is Uchinaaguchi, which is a Northern Ryukyuan language. English is spoken by the youngsters to some extent, so make sure to carry a translation book along.

How many days are ideal for exploring Okinawa?

Spend a minimum of 5 days 4 nights here, so that you can also get to spend some time at leisure, exploring the local markets and the many small pagodas and temples that line the island.

Discover the highlights of Okinawa on a trip to Japan.

Meaning "rope in the open sea," Okinawa is aptly described. The prefecture comprises the southern half of the bigger group of islands known as Ryukyu Islands. Named after the area’s native culture, Ryukyu Islands consist of 49 inhabited and 111 uninhabited islands stretching between mainland Japan and Taiwan. Okinawa Prefecture’s inhabited islands are divided into three archipelagos, or groups of islands: the Okinawa Islands, Miyako Islands, and the Yaeyama Islands. Naha, the capital of Okinawa Prefecture, is located in the southern part of Okinawa Island. Okinawa Island is the largest of all islands and has an area of 464 sq-mi (1,201 sq-km). Approximately 400 mi (640 km) south of mainland Japan, Okinawa Island features a subtropical climate and is home to many unusual and beautiful species of flora and fauna. Okinawa Island is located in Okinawa Prefecture and is one of three islands belonging to this southernmost prefecture of Japan. While Okinawa Island’s north end is made up of igneous rock, its southern end consists of a coral reef, making the islands perfect for ocean recreation such as deep-sea diving and snorkelling. Okinawans have their own distinctive culture and food, separate from Japan. Their most famous worldwide export is the martial art of karate, while their form of music, a blend of Okinawan sounds and American rock or jazz, is becoming widely popular in Japan. With its stunning coral, beautiful white beaches, and even a fun trip to Nago Pineapple Park, Okinawa is a warm, relaxing destination for an overnight stopover during Japanese travel.

14 reasons why Okinawa is Japan’s hottest travel destination

From the stunning white sand beaches of the Yaeyama Islands to tasting food that will make you live longer, Okinawa should be on your Japan bucket list.

When you close your eyes and picture Japan, you probably imagine Tokyo’s neon lights and bustling shopping strips. The cobbled streets and temples of Kyoto. Or the snow monkeys and ski slopes of Niseko. But did you know the country also has white sandy beaches lapped by warm tropical water?

Welcome to Okinawa, a  dreamy archipelago  in southern Japan comprised of 160 subtropical islands. You will want to linger indulging in food to diving, culture to adventure. Here’s why.

Visit an island, off an island, off an island

The Yaeyama Islands are the most remote pocket of Japan and travelling to them is like discovering an untouched paradise. These 19 laid-back sub-tropical islands will completely change your vision of Japan.

Ishigaki

Is the transport hub for the Yaeyama Islands. From here, boats zip out to other islets yet you can also stay and experience warm tropical beaches, jungle hiking and river kayaking. The island is dotted with temples and shrines, and the Ishigaki Public Market is a great place to find unique souvenirs, including Ishigaki sea salt.

Ishigaki Island in Japan | Okinawa

Clad in dense, lush jungle 20km from Ishigaki, Iriomote is a designated National Park and said to be one of the last hidden secrets of Japan. Trekking, canoeing and jungle cruises should all be on your itinerary here. As should a visit to the Pinaisara and Mariyudu waterfalls and a paddle down the Urauchi River, the longest river in Okinawa. If you visit from the end of March to the end of May, you can watch the fireflies light up at dusk.

Iriomote was recently listed as a UNESCO heritage site. It’s home to the endangered Iriomote Wildcat, a designated national treasure that only lives on this island. At the Iriomote Wildlife Conservation Center in the eastern part of Iriomote Island, you can find rare wildcats images and information on conservation efforts.

Okinawa | Iriomote Island

Is like stepping back in time. Traditional limestone, wood and red roof homes draped in bougainvilleas line streets made from white coral sand. Here, you can ride on a buffalo while listening to songs played on the Sanshin. Head out onto the long Nishi Pier at sunset, and you will feel like you are standing on the ocean.

Life here goes in the slow lane, whether you’re wandering powdery beaches, swimming in the calm sea or exploring subtropical forests. Restaurants are only open during the day, so expect to dine with the family in the guesthouse you choose.  Whichever island you pick, look forward to daily activities, including snorkelling with turtles, diving with manta rays, hiking… and just blissing out on powdery beaches.

Discover the secret to longevity on an Okinawa food tour

Laid-back lifestyle aside, many attribute the fact that Okinawans live longer than any other population on the planet to their cuisine. In fact, Okinawa is one of five global ‘Blue Zones’, areas where people live the longest and are healthiest.

In Okinawa, the secret to longevity is attributed to a primarily plant-based diet. This includes abundant green and yellow vegetables, bitter melons, soy-based products, and tofu. Less than 1 per cent of the traditional diet is meat, eggs or dairy.

Get a tasty overview of a  Taste of Okinawa  tour and cooking class, beginning at a market to pick up ingredients for your lunch. Your chef for the day will teach you techniques to prepare a four-course meal, which includes main dishes such as Goya Chanpuru or Soba and local specialties like fried taimo (a kind of tubar similar to taro) and biragaramachi (fishcake wrapped in green onion with miso).

Enjoy a snorkelling day trip to the Kerama Islands

Easily reached from Naha, the 36 Kerama Islands are another secret paradise for snorkelling and diving fanatics. The water is home to many sea turtles, and whales are a common sight during migration. Many people come here just to see the ‘Kerama Blue’, the name for the water’s unique colour in the lagoon surrounding the largest island, Tokashiki. Or just to bliss out on the stunning white sand beaches.

But the interior of these islands is just as fascinating, with forested hills, jungle hiking tracks and observation decks. You can jump onto a local ferry for about 300 yen and explore the two big islands, Zamami, Tokashiki, and Aka Island.

Take a karate course from the source

Okinawa is the birthplace of karate, the famous martial arts style practised worldwide. Whether you’re a novice or an expert looking to gain more experience from an Okinawan Grand Master, opportunities abound to experience a training session across the islands.

It’s widely accepted that karate was developed in Okinawa during the 450 years of the independent Ryukyu Kingdom (1429-1879). In Okinawa, karate is known as Heiwa no Bu, the Martial Art of Peace. The sport is a way to develop martial arts techniques and to focus the mind. One of the universal principles is: “Hit not. Be not hit. Avoiding conflict is the fundamental principle.”

Karate originated in Okinawa, Japan

Channel your inner monarch visiting epic castles

During the pre-kingdom era, regional chieftains built castles and fortresses across the Okinawan archipelago. Today, five major castle sites remain. Known as gusuku in the Okinawan language, the castles were designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2000.

Shurijo Castle in Naha is a vibrant red fortress that served as the seat of power and the royal residence. Even after the Kingdom fell to the Satsuma domain (present-day Kagoshima Prefecture), Okinawa was still governed by the royal family from this site. It wasn’t until 1879 that the Kingdom was abolished and incorporated into Japan. Of the five Okinawa Ryukyu Kingdom castles, this is the only one that has been restored.

The Nakagusuku Castle Site is the best-preserved of the remaining four castles in Okinawa. Visitors can still see the castle’s division into multiple citadels, and from the hilltop, you will have incredible views over Nakagusuku Bay.

Celebrate Ryukyu culture

Okinawa’s long heritage as the Ryuyku Kingdom is evident wherever you go. During these 450 years, the islands flourished. Travellers can get a feel for the culture at festivals, such as the cross-islands Zento Eisa Festival (August/September annually).

Eisa, a form of folk dancing, originated in Okinawa. It’s performed by youth during the Obon festival to honour the spirits of their ancestors. The festival has processions,  taiko  drumming and (of course) dancing. The spectacle draws more than 300,000 people annually. It’s a colourful display of culture you won’t want to miss.

Paddle about on mangrove kayaking adventure

Gesashi Mangrove Wood mangroves on Okinawa’s main island are one of the largest collections of mangroves in Okinawa. It’s so serene that the Japanese government designated it a national treasure in 1972. The best way to see it is by kayak. You can choose from various kayaking excursions, ranging from an hour to up to five hours, where you can paddle to the Pacific Ocean

Tee off with ocean views

Head to the north of Okinawa Island, where golf resorts come with standout hotels. Thanks to Okinawa’s balmy year-round climate, its many unique golf courses can be accessed day in and day out. Think teeing off across emerald fairways with ocean views and putting into holes that hug the top of windswept cliffs.

In Nago City, Kanucha Golf Course and Kanehide Kise Country Club are embracing a swathe of forest. While in Ginoza and Onna Village, the Atta Terrace Golf Resort comes with calming sea vistas. Venture out to Miyako Island and enjoy golf on a tropical island – each hole here reveals a different perspective of the water. While at the Emerald Coast Golf Links, you must hit your ball over the sea at the 16th hole.

Pick up a new craft

What’s an ultimate Japan travel souvenir? Something you’ve made yourself. Which is possible when you sign up for a weaving workshop at Minsah Kogei Kan. Part craft centre, part museum, the space offers a glimpse into traditions where you can sit down to create your own coaster, table runner or tapestry with tips from a local artisan guru.

Sip and savour local beer and ‘island sake’

The traditional drink of the Ryukyu Kingdom is known as  awamori , introduced to the archipelago from Thailand and fermented using Thai rice. The taste is similar to  shochu , and you can expand your palette at one of the 45+ distilleries around the islands. On the brewery scene, Orion draft beer is a local favourite, but craft breweries have also popped up, making innovative drops.

okinawa japan travel packages

Dine out on Okinawan delicacies

The food you’ll find here is unlike anything you’ll find on the mainland. Okinawan cuisine is big on fresh vegetables and other nourishing ingredients. It’s one of the key reasons local people live long, healthy lives – Okinawa is one of the world’s Blue Zones with a higher-than-average life expectancy.

You’re spoilt for choice regarding eating out across the islands. We recommend visiting a popular izakaya (intimate Japanese gastro-pub) and ordering plates to share. Ufuya restaurant in Nago is a great place to sample local cuisine, with charming dining rooms located in a collection of restored residences that date back to Japan’s Meiji era (1868-1912).

Try Okinawa soba, a bowl of wheat flour noodles in a  tonkotsu  (pork bones) broth with ribs, fish and green onions your toppings. And then  chanpuru stir-fry.

Especially famous is  goya chanpuru , made with bitter gourd (a traditional Okinawan vegetable), tofu, egg and pork. Also try Agu Pork, Motobu Beef, Beni Emo Purple Sweet Potatoes and Umibudo Sea Grapes. End your meal with  sata andagi , a delicious doughnut-like ball.

See how many shisa you can spot

Mythical spirits called  Shisa  to protect every building, whether private homes or businesses across Okinawa. These creatures, somewhat resembling lion dogs, guard over the archipelago. They protect buildings and those who live, work and play in them. Today they come in many shapes and forms. But you’ll always see them in pairs: a closed-mouth female to keep in the good spirits and an open-mouthed male to scare evil spirits away. Pick them up as souvenirs to take home.

Discover the island’s spiritual heart

Utaki  is the name for traditional holy places in the Ryukyu Islands. In most villages, Utaki  can be found on natural rock formations or ancient trees. They are places where the gods and ancestors visit. Villagers will often leave incense and offer prayers here for good health, bountiful harvests and safe travels.

Once a place of pilgrimage and worship for the Ryukyu kings and queens, Sefa-utaki is the most sacred spot on all the islands. Hidden in lush vegetation, it was created from coral rocks and verdant trees. A wander through the twisting paths will teach you much about the Okinawan people and, hopefully, lead to your own enlightenment.

Select Homes + Retreats™: Select Homes + Retreats™ (SHR) program bookings must be made through AmexTravel.com with participating vacation rental management companies (also referred to as “Hosts”) and their participating properties. Bookings are valid only for eligible American Express® U.S. Consumer and Business Platinum Card® Members and Centurion® Members. Additional Card Members on U.S. Consumer and Business Platinum and Centurion Card Accounts are also eligible for SHR. Companion Card Members on U.S. Consumer Platinum and Centurion Card Accounts, Additional Business Gold and Additional Business Expense Card Members on U.S. Business Platinum and Centurion Card Accounts, and Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Card Members are not eligible for SHR. Bookings must be made by an eligible Card Member using an American Express® Card, in the eligible Card Member's name, and that Card Member must be staying at the property booked. Properties may have minimum age requirements to book. Bookings require prepayment and may require advance security deposit, as/if specified in the property listing. Bookings must be made at least 10 days prior to the date of check-in. Other than if specified in a property listing, the minimum length of stay is 2 consecutive nights and the maximum length of stay is 28 consecutive nights. Bookings are cancellable without penalty within 48 hours of being made if your booking is made at least 10 days before your scheduled check-in date; thereafter, bookings are subject to the Host’s applicable cancellation and other policies. Any booking cancelled within 48 hours after the initial booking will result in a voided billing transaction. Voided billing transactions do not result in a charge or refund and will not appear on your monthly Card statement. Dates of a booking cannot be modified once made. Card Members must cancel their booking and make a new booking through AmexTravel.com; in which case, the new booking will be subject to availability, any cancellation policies and fees, any increase in the nightly rates or other fees, and any other applicable policies or fees of the Host. After cancellation, the property previously booked may not be available for subsequent booking for up to 24 hours or more. Hosts may require Card Members to complete additional steps after booking, such as signing a rental agreement, completing identity and/or age verification, or other steps described in a property listing; if such steps are not completed promptly, your Host may cancel your booking, subject to the Host’s policies. Card Members must use the property for lawful purposes and the purposes for which the rental of a vacation home is provided, including, without limitation, abiding by all applicable rules, laws, and regulations and not gathering more people than the maximum occupancy of the home without the prior written approval of the Host. Participating Hosts and their participating properties are subject to change. American Express is not liable for the acts or omissions of Hosts, their properties (including homeowners), or third parties acting for or on behalf of Hosts or homeowners. American Express is not the provider of the properties offered for rental and does not collect taxes or remit taxes to applicable tax authorities. Tax amounts displayed include an estimated amount that Hosts are to bill for applicable government-imposed taxes and fees. Hosts are responsible for providing a final receipt to Card Members upon request and remitting the government-imposed taxes and fees to relevant tax authorities.

2X Membership Rewards Points – Basic Card Members with a Membership Rewards-enrolled Card get at least 1 Membership Rewards® point for every eligible dollar spent on their Membership Rewards program-enrolled American Express Card or Additional Card on their Account and will also get at least 1 additional point (for a total of 2 points) for each dollar charged for eligible Select Homes + Retreats purchases on any Card on the Account, minus cancellations and credits.

3X Membership Rewards Points – Green Card: Basic Card Members, when paying with their eligible Green Card or Additional Card on their Account, can earn 2 additional points (for a total of 3 points) for each dollar charged for eligible Select Homes + Retreats purchases on any Card on the Account, minus cancellations and credits.

5X Membership Rewards Points – Platinum Card: Basic Card Members, when paying with their eligible Platinum Card or Additional Card on their Account, can earn 4 additional points (for a total of 5 points) for each dollar charged for eligible Select Homes + Retreats purchases on any Card on the Platinum Card Account, minus cancellations and credits. Additional points will be credited to the Membership Rewards account 10-12 weeks after final payment is made.

$200 Hotel Credit:   Basic Card Members on U.S. Consumer Platinum Card Account are eligible to receive up to $200 in statement credits per calendar year when they or Additional Platinum Card Members use their Cards to pay for eligible prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection bookings made through American Express Travel (meaning through amextravel.com, the Amex® App, or by calling the phone number on the back of your eligible Card) or when Companion Platinum Card Members on such Platinum Card Accounts pay for eligible prepaid bookings for The Hotel Collection made through American Express Travel (meaning through amextravel.com, the Amex® App, or by calling the phone number on the back of your eligible Card). Purchases by both the Basic Card Member and any Additional Card Members on the Card Account are eligible for statement credits. However, the total amount of statement credits for eligible purchases will not exceed $200 per calendar year, per Card Account. Fine Hotels + Resorts® program bookings may be made only by eligible U.S. Consumer Basic Platinum and Additional Platinum Card Members. The Hotel Collection bookings may be made by eligible U.S. Consumer Basic and Additional Platinum Card Members and Companion Platinum Card Members on the Platinum Card Account. Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Card Members are not eligible for the benefit. To receive the statement credits, an eligible Card Member must make a new booking using their eligible Card through American Express Travel on or after July 1st, 2021, that is prepaid (referred to as "Pay Now" on amextravel.com and the Amex App), for a qualifying stay at an available, participating Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection property. Bookings of The Hotel Collection require a minimum stay of two consecutive nights. Eligible bookings must be processed before December 31st, 11:59PM Central Time, each calendar year to be eligible for statement credits within that year. Eligible bookings do not include interest charges, cancellation fees, property fees or other similar fees, or any charges by a property to you (whether for your booking, your stay or otherwise).

Statement credits are typically received within a few days, however it may take 90 days after an eligible prepaid hotel booking is charged to the Card Account. American Express relies on the merchant’s processing of transactions to determine the transaction date. The transaction date may differ from the date you made the purchase if, for example, there is a delay in the merchant submitting the transaction to us or if the merchant uses another date as the transaction date. This means that in some cases your purchase may not earn the statement credit benefit for the benefit period in which you made the purchase. For example, if an eligible purchase is made on December 31st but the merchant processes the transaction such that it is identified to us as occurring on January 1st, then the statement credit available in the next calendar year will be applied. Statement credits may not be received or may be reversed if the booking is cancelled or modified. If the Card Account is canceled or past due, it may not qualify to receive a statement credit. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as eligible, you will not receive the statement credits. For example, your transaction will not be eligible if it is a booking: (i) made with a property not included in the Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection programs, (ii) not made through American Express Travel, or (iii) not made with an eligible Card. Participating properties and their availability are subject to change. If American Express, in its sole discretion, determines that you have engaged in or intend to engage in any manner of abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with this benefit, American Express will not have an obligation to provide and may reverse any statement credits provided to you. If a charge for an eligible purchase is included in a Pay Over Time balance on your Card Account, the statement credit associated with that charge may not be applied to that Pay Over Time balance. Instead, the statement credit may be applied to your Pay In Full balance. Please refer to  AmericanExpress.com/FHR  and  AmericanExpress.com/HC   for more information about Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection, respectively.

5X Membership Rewards® Points Platinum Card:   Basic Card Members will get 1 Membership Rewards® point for each dollar charged for eligible purchases on their Platinum Card® or an Additional Card on their Account and 4 additional points (for a total of 5 points) for each dollar charged for eligible travel purchases on any Card on the Account (“Additional Points”), minus cancellations and credits. Eligible travel purchases are limited to: (i) purchases of air tickets on scheduled flights, of up to $500,000 in charges per calendar year, booked directly with passenger airlines or through American Express Travel (by calling 1-800-525-3355 or through AmexTravel.com); (ii) purchases of prepaid hotel reservations booked through American Express Travel; and (iii) purchases of prepaid flight+hotel packages booked through AmexTravel.com. Eligible travel purchases do not include: charter flights, private jet flights, flights that are part of tours, cruises, or travel packages (other than prepaid flight+hotel packages booked through AmexTravel.com), ticketing or similar service fees, ticket cancellation or change fees, property fees or similar fees, hotel group reservations or events, interest charges, or purchases of cash equivalents. Eligible prepaid hotel bookings or prepaid flight+hotel bookings that are modified directly with the hotel will not be eligible for Additional Points.

Bonuses that may be received with your Card on other purchase categories or in connection with promotions or offers from American Express cannot be combined with this benefit. Any portion of a charge that the Basic Card Member elects to cover through redemption of Membership Rewards points is not eligible to receive points. Additional terms and restrictions apply.

Merchants are assigned codes based on what they primarily sell. We group certain merchant codes into categories that are eligible for Additional Points. A purchase with a merchant will not earn Additional Points if the merchant’s code is not included in an Additional Points category. Basic Card Members may not receive Additional Points if we receive inaccurate information or are otherwise unable to identify your purchase as eligible for an Additional Points category. For example, you may not receive Additional Points when: a merchant uses a third-party to sell their products or services, a merchant uses a third-party to process or submit your transaction to us (e.g., using mobile or wireless card readers), or you choose to make a purchase using a third-party payment account or make a purchase using a mobile or digital wallet.

To be eligible for this benefit, the Card Account must not be cancelled. If American Express, in its sole discretion, determines that you have engaged in or intend to engage in any manner of abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with this benefit in any way American Express may remove access to this benefit from the Account. For additional information, call the number on the back of your Card or visit americanexpress.com/rewards-info for more information about rewards.

5X Membership Rewards Points Business Platinum Card: You will get one point for each dollar charged for an eligible purchase on your Business Platinum Card® from American Express. You will get 4 additional points (for a total of 5 points) for each dollar spent on eligible travel purchases. Eligible travel purchases include scheduled flights and prepaid flight and hotel packages made online at AmexTravel.com, minus returns and other credits. Additionally, eligible travel purchases include prepaid hotel purchases made through American Express Travel, over the phone with our Travel Consultants or made online at AmexTravel.com, minus returns and other credits. Eligible travel purchases do NOT include non-prepaid hotel bookings, scheduled flights and prepaid flight and hotel packages over the phone, vacation packages, car rentals, cruise, hotel group reservations or events, ticketing service, cancellation or other fees, interest charges, purchases of travelers checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, or purchases of other cash equivalents. To be eligible for the 5x Membership Rewards® points, you must both reserve and charge the travel purchase with the same eligible Business Platinum Card®. To modify a reservation you must cancel and rebook your reservation. You can cancel and rebook your reservation on AmexTravel.com or by calling a representative of AmexTravel.com at 1-800-297-2977. Cancellations are subject to hotel cancellation penalty policies. If hotel reservations are made or modified directly with the hotel provider, the reservation will not be eligible for this 5X Membership Rewards® point benefit. To be eligible to receive extra points, Card account(s) must not be cancelled or past due at the time of extra points fulfillment. If booking is cancelled, the extra points will be deducted from the Membership Rewards account. Extra points will be credited to the Membership Rewards account approximately 6-10 weeks after eligible purchases appear on the billing statement. Additional point bonuses you may receive with your Card on other purchase categories from American Express may not be combined with this benefit (e.g., 1.5X and 2X bonuses for Business Platinum Card Members, etc.). Purchases eligible for multiple additional point bonuses will only receive the highest eligible bonus. The benefits associated with the Additional Card(s) you choose may be different than the benefits associated with your basic Card. To learn about the benefits associated with Additional Card(s) you choose, please call the number on the back of your Card.

Merchants are assigned codes based on what they primarily sell. We group certain merchant codes into categories that are eligible for additional points. A purchase with a merchant will not earn additional points if the merchant’s code is not included in an additional points category. You may not receive additional points if we receive inaccurate information or are otherwise unable to identify your purchase as eligible for an additional points category. For example, you may not receive additional points when: a merchant uses a third-party to sell their products or services; or a merchant uses a third-party to process or submit your transaction to us (e.g., using mobile or wireless card readers); or you choose to make a purchase using a third-party payment account or make a purchase using a mobile or digital wallet.

Please visit americanexpress.com/rewards-info for more information about rewards.

Pay with Points:   To use Pay with Points, you must charge your eligible purchase through American Express Travel to a Membership Rewards® program-enrolled American Express® Card. Eligible purchases through American Express Travel exclude non-prepaid car rentals and non-prepaid hotels. Points will be debited from your Membership Rewards account, and credit for corresponding dollar amount will be issued to the American Express Card account used. If points redeemed do not cover entire amount, the balance of purchase price will remain on the American Express Card account. Minimum redemption 5,000 points.

See  membershiprewards.com/terms   for the Membership Rewards program terms and conditions.

If a charge for a purchase is included in a Pay Over Time balance on your Linked Account the statement credit associated with that charge may not be applied to that Pay Over Time balance. Instead the statement credit may be applied to your Pay in Full balance. If you believe this has occurred, please contact us by calling the number on the back of your Card. Corporate Card Members are not eligible for Pay Over Time.

Hilton Honors Gold Status Enrollment: Enrollment through American Express is required to receive the benefit. Platinum Card Members and Additional Platinum Card Members on the Platinum Card Account can enroll in complimentary Hilton Honors Gold status in the Benefits section of their americanexpress.com online account or by calling the number on the back of their Card. If a Card Member already has a Hilton Honors Number, they may enter it on the benefit page prior to enrollment. Benefit available only to Platinum Card Members and is not transferable. Once the Card Member requests enrollment in the Hilton Honors program, American Express will share their enrollment information with Hilton. Hilton may use this information in accordance with its privacy policy available at hilton.com/en/p/global-privacy-statement/. Enrolled Card Members will maintain Hilton Honors Gold Status without meeting otherwise required Hilton Honors criteria as long as the Card Member remains an eligible American Express Card Member or until American Express notifies the Card Member that the benefit is terminated. If your Platinum Card is cancelled for any reason, your complimentary Hilton Honors Gold status provided with the Card will be cancelled. American Express reserves the right to change, modify or revoke complimentary Gold status at any time. If your complimentary Gold status is cancelled, you may be able to maintain your Gold status by qualifying under the Hilton Honors Program terms. Gold status benefits are subject to availability and vary by hotel; see Hiltonhonors.com/MemberBenefits and Hilton.com/en/hilton-honors/benefit-terms/ for additional details. The Hilton Honors Program, including the benefits of Hilton Honors membership, are subject to Hilton Honors Terms and Conditions; see hiltonhonors.com/terms.

To be eligible for this benefit, Card Account(s) must not be cancelled. If your Card has been replaced, please check the Benefits section of your americanexpress.com account, mobile app or call the number on the back of your Card to confirm your continued enrollment in the benefit. If American Express, in its sole discretion, determines that you have engaged in or intend to engage in any manner of abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with this benefit in any way, American Express may remove access to this benefit from the Account. For additional information, call the number on the back of your Card.

Additional point bonuses you may receive with your Card on other purchase categories from American Express may not be combined with this offer (e.g., 5X bonuses for Platinum and Business Platinum Card Members, 3X bonuses for Business Gold Card Members, or 1.5X bonuses for Business Centurion and Business Platinum Card Members, etc.). Any portion of a charge that you elect to cover through redemption of Membership Rewards points is not eligible to receive points. Additionally, eligible travel purchases include prepaid hotel purchases made through American Express Travel over the phone with our Travel Consultants or made online at AmexTravel.com, minus returns and other credits. Eligible travel purchases do NOT include non-prepaid hotel bookings, scheduled flights and prepaid flight+hotel packages booked over the phone, vacation packages, car rentals, cruise, hotel group reservations or events, ticketing service, cancellation or other fees, interest charges, purchases of travelers checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, or purchases of other cash equivalents. To be eligible for the 3X Membership Rewards® points, the booking must be both reserved and charged on the Basic or Additional/Employee Card on the Card Account. To modify a reservation, you can cancel and rebook your reservation on AmexTravel.com or by calling a representative of AmexTravel.com at 1-800-297-2977. To be eligible for the 3X Membership Rewards® points, any changes to an existing reservation must be made through the same method as your original booking. Cancellations are subject to hotel cancellation penalty policies. If hotel reservations are made or modified directly with the hotel provider, the reservation will not be eligible for this 3X Membership Rewards® point benefit. To be eligible to receive extra points, Card Account(s) must not be cancelled or past due at the time of extra points fulfillment. If a booking is cancelled, the extra points will be deducted from the Membership Rewards account. Extra points will be credited to the Membership Rewards account approximately 6-10 weeks after eligible purchases appear on the billing statement. Bonuses you may receive with your Card on other purchase categories or in connection with promotions or offers from American Express may not be combined with this benefit.

Global Dining Access by Resy: The Global Dining Access program (“GDA”) is a benefit available to eligible Card Members. “Eligible Card Members” are account holders of Platinum Card® or Centurion® Card from American Express, Business Platinum Card®, Business Centurion® Card from American Express, Corporate Platinum Card® or Corporate Centurion® Card from American Express, Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card, Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card, Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card, The Platinum Card® from American Express Exclusively for Morgan Stanley, The Platinum Card® from American Express Exclusively for Charles Schwab, The Platinum Card® from American Express for Goldman Sachs, and The Centurion® Card from American Express for Goldman Sachs (and any Additional Card Member(s) on their accounts). GDA may not be available for Cards issued from some countries. GDA provides eligible Card Members with (a) access to exclusive reservations, (b) Priority Notify, which allows GDA members to set notifications to be in the first group notified when tables become available before they are made available to other Resy users, and (c) access to exclusive events. GDA reservations are accessible through the Resy iOS App and Website (“Resy Sites”) and Concierge. Some features of GDA, like Priority Notify, may not be available through Concierge. To access this benefit through the Resy iOS App, you must download the Resy App; or if you already have the Resy iOS App, ensure the latest update is downloaded. When using the Resy Sites, create a Resy account or log into your existing Resy account and add your eligible Card to your Resy account. If you are assigned a new Card number, you must update the Card number in your Resy account. When you use GDA, a badge will be placed on your Resy profile, letting restaurants know that you are a member of the GDA program. Reservations are based on a first-come, first-served basis. In the event of a reservation cancellation, you will be subject to the restaurant’s cancellation policy. Generally, same-day reservations that are not booked by GDA members are released back to restaurants at certain times of day that vary across restaurant policies. American Express and Resy make no representations or warranties regarding the availability of reservations, events, and/or experiences, which shall at all times be subject to availability and the discretion of the applicable restaurant. American Express and Resy are not responsible for informing the restaurants of any dietary restrictions or for a restaurant being able to accommodate such restrictions. There is no cost to you for booking services through GDA, although you are responsible for any purchases or fees you authorize to be charged to your Card account. GDA reservations and events are intended for personal use only and cannot be resold or used for commercial purposes. By participating in the GDA program, you are accepting these GDA terms and conditions, which are in addition to and do not replace the Resy Sites’ Terms of Service. To be eligible for this benefit, your Card account must not be cancelled.
