10 Around-the-world Cruises for the Trip of a Lifetime

These world cruises offer the ultimate itineraries.

world cruise dates

Want to island hop around French Polynesia, visit Africa's incredible cities, and cruise through Asia without ever switching hotels or repacking your bags? An around-the-world cruise provides the ultimate itinerary, packed with exciting international destinations (some even visit hard-to-reach destinations like Easter Island and Antarctica), and luxury cruise lines provide comfortable accommodations, specialty restaurants, and plenty to do on and off the ship.

There are two main things you need before booking a world cruise: plenty of time and some spare cash. Prices range from around $20,000 to upwards of $100,000 per person, and all our top picks are more than 100 days (one is even a whopping 275 days), so they're ideal for retired travelers looking for their next big adventure. Pack wisely for a range of destinations and climates, and get ready for the journey of a lifetime, filled with postcard-perfect destinations and new friends (because you're bound to meet a travel buddy or two after 100-plus days on a ship). If an around-the-world cruise is at the top of your travel list, you'll want to book sooner rather than later — these journeys frequently sell out because many cruise lines only offer a limited number of sailings.

Here are ten of the best around-the-world cruises you can take in 2023 and 2024.

World Cruises

CruiseMapper logo

This is CruiseMapper's World Cruise schedule where you can compare itineraries, departure dates, ports, and destinations. For more detailed information on "Around The World" cruise ships - just follow the ship links from the below table. This page is integrated with our Suez Canal cruise ship transits and Transatlantic cruises ( repositioncruises.com ).

Vacationers on cruises around the world are able to experience culture-rich opportunities while sightseeing on multiple continents. Combine exciting land tours with leisurely days at sea. Fulfill your dreams and book a world cruise to explore the globe!

You are not alone in your dream to discover what lies there, beyond the horizon... It has been a part of human nature since immemorial time. It was not until 1922 when the first passenger circumnavigation was made by Cunard Line that adventurous souls could follow Magellan's way around the world.

"Around the World Cruise"

"Around The World" cruises are the perfect voyages for those who want it all. This type of cruise vacations is an opportunity to explore beautiful landscapes, diverse cultures, and wildlife on earth. As they last as long as 110 days, dock at upwards of thirty ports, round the world cruises take guests to the globe's most exciting destinations in comfort and style. Another option for travelers who think it's much time at sea is taking just an itinerary section (one of the smaller segments), so as to explore one region only.

Around The World Cruises - CruiseMapper

Cruisers who look for stunning landscapes, histories, exotic wildlife, fine beaches, or first-class cuisine are certain to find the ideal destination on round the world itineraries. The main World Voyage attraction is that they allow you to visit far-flung destinations in one package, for example- the Mediterranean & the South Pacific, without the typical travel drawbacks. Go and see exotic locations, and then return to your ship for dinner and entertain yourself. And imagine this goes on and on for so many days... Sounds like perfectly splendid to me!

Around The World voyages itinerary routes

  • Australia - Sydney Harbour; tropical Queensland; the Great Barrier Reef;
  • the Pacific - Pacific islands; the islands of Fiji, French Polynesia & Hawaii;
  • Asia - Vietnam coastline, rich with monuments & temples;
  • the Middle East - heading through the Suez Canal at Egypt - Aqaba, Luxor, Muscat. The alternative route- down Africa's east coast with stops at Cape Town or Mombasa;
  • West America - the cosmopolitan USA cities; the ports of Mexico, with ruins of ancient Mayan cultures.
  • South America - the Brazilian rainforest; the magnificent city of Rio de Janeiro.
  • Europe - Athens- the ancient capital, and the architecturally amazing Barcelona.

List of popular cruise ports on Around The World voyages

Round the World voyages usually from some of the world's largest major port cities, such as Southampton , Tilbury-London , NYC New York , Los Angeles , Miami , Fort Lauderdale , Sydney Australia . A lot of cruise vacations run from Singapore or Sydney to Pacific islands, west to Europe, and around the Asian ports, either round Africa (via Cape Town) or through the Suez Canal (transition) . Some of the lines take guests west, down the USA coast through the Panama Canal (transition) , after which- across to Dubai . If you are interested in the subject of the world circumnavigation in general - this is the Wikipedia article about it.

Shorter around the world itineraries (segments) may start in Melbourne Australia , Brisbane Australia , Singapore , Hong Kong China , Cape Town (South Africa) .

Is the World Cruise cost worth it?

There are people who really love the endless lazy days at sea with little to do. For others, the joy of cruising is to be able to visit different new places all around the world in a short time.

What about Around The World cruise ship offers, then? Will you survive after experiencing all the long days at sea (for example, an Australia-Southampton sector lasts 40 days)? If your answer is "not sure", better book two shorter voyages instead- thus you'll have more call ports and more new impressions. Just look carefully at the new-issued itineraries before you book a world cruise.

The atmosphere onboard Round The World cruise ships is very different from Mediterranean or Caribbean cruise vacations, so choose the world cruise line very carefully! Lots of people believe that you have to be old enough and retired to set sail on a Grand Voyage. True, and not so true. There are plenty of still working people onboard who have persuaded employers to give some months off. And all of them are mid-class and above, and most of them are really really really affluent.

Before committing to a World Voyage of three or more months away from home, bear in mind a few things first:

  • World Cruises deals present a great chance to see interesting parts of the globe, but better work out the number of sea days included in cruise deals, first. With more ports of call in your itinerary, you will be swept off your feet by the exotic sites and forget to think about the long days at sea in between.
  • If you don’t have the money and time for sailing all the way around, better book a segment! Companies have an amazing organization - some passengers get off here, others board there.
  • Around-the-world cruises attract older people just because they have the time (and money, of course) to be away for several months. Do you want to show the kids new cultures? Forget about world cruising and book two shorter cruises instead!
  • The irony about "Around The World" voyages is that actually they don't sail fully round the world. On the other hand, it is true that these voyages, lasting from more than seventy, and up to 116 nights, offer vacationers the chance to see diverse cultures wrapped into one single voyage. Even those who cannot commit to a full voyage can participate through the popular "segment" option, ranging from a week to more than one month.
  • Most "world cruise ships" usually start their Grand Voyages in January and the itineraries end in March-April-May. However, after Australia became a hot ship travel vacation destination in 2015, some of the companies offer roundtrip "World Cruise" deals from Sydney Australia. These itineraries often start in May, and even in July.

The 9-Month World Cruise Is Almost Over, Leaving One of Its Famous Passengers Feeling Conflicted

Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate World Cruise set sail on Dec. 10, 2023 and officially comes to an end in less than a month, on Sept. 10

The Ultimate World Cruise is officially coming to an end after nearly nine months at sea — and one of its famous passengers has mixed feelings about it.

The cruiser, who goes by drjennytravels , has gained a loyal following sharing content from her remarkable (and lengthy) voyage. She went viral for sharing dispatches from the rocky voyage through the tempestuous Drake Passage to Antarctica in January and when the ship encountered a “scary” fog that led to a canceled port in May.

In a TikTok shared on August 10, Dr .Jenny started a countdown of the last month of cruising aboard the Serenade of the Seas and expressed her sadness over the months-long journey almost being over.

“Today marks one month to go on the nine-month world cruise and I am feeling mixed emotions about it,” she says in the clip. “In the long term I’m feeling sad, anxious, and kind of dreading the end of this adventure — but on the other hand, we still have one month of cruising to go.”

She adds that she’s excited for friends to join her for a segment of the trip from Copenhagen to Amsterdam in the last month.

In February, the TikToker kept her followers updated when the cruise, operated by Royal Caribbean, was faced with making a significant itinerary change due to unrest in the Middle East.

At the time, the cruise line confirmed to PEOPLE that it was going to cancel the nine-month voyage’s original itinerary through the Red Sea and Suez Canal in May to keep its passengers and crew members safe. Cruisers were then presented with two alternative itineraries that Dr. Jenny explained in another TikTok .

"We are going to Dubai. We also are going to Africa. We are gonna go all the way around the tip of South Africa,” she said. “The itinerary is not finalized; we actually have two options. One, they're calling the 'Scenic Route' — it does more of Africa. And the other is what they call the 'Highway,' which is a lot of sea days and does less stops in Africa."

She also shared footage from the cruise's town hall meeting and explained that cruisers have the option to vote on what type of route they want to go on. In the end, the “scenic route” was chosen and cruisers were able to visit more parts of Africa.

The Ultimate World Cruise departed from Miami on Dec. 10 and will return to the same port when it comes to an end on Sept. 10. It cruises for 274 nights and hits 160 total destinations, including eight world wonders, according to the official website .

Consisting of four segments — the Ultimate Americas Cruise, the Ultimate Asia Pacific Cruise, the Ultimate Africa and Southern Europe Cruise, and the Ultimate Europe and Beyond Cruise — the voyage is currently on its last leg and making its way through Norway.

Reopening Date Announced for Jungle Cruise at Walt Disney World

Disney has revealed that their scheduled refurbishment of Jungle Cruise is set to end this October in Magic Kingdom.

Jungle Cruise Refurbishment End Date

According to the “park hours and info” section on the My Disney Experience App, the attraction is set to reopen on October 18, nearly two months after its initial closure on August 26.

It is unknown at this time if any significant changes are planned for the attraction during the refurbishment, though it is unlikely considering that major updates and show scenes were added just a few years ago.

The queue of the attraction recently had its dock flooring completely replaced as well.

Illicit drug world in la revealed after ketamine arrests in matthew perry’s death.

Five arrests over Matthew Perry’s overdose death this week expose how the drug trade in Hollywood is alive, thriving and as deadly as ever.

Two of those charged in the “Friends” star’s death are medical doctors , while another, Jasveen Sangha, is referred to in her indictment as ‘The Ketamine Queen’ , who only dealt to “high-end” people and “celebs”.

Sangha used her home in North Hollywood, Calif. to “store, package and distribute narcotics, including ketamine and methamphetamine,” according to the Department of Justice indictment, which also accuses her of supplying the drugs which killed Perry.

Jasveen Sangha

Legal sources believe Sangha — who was arrested Thursday and is also expected to face charges over a 2019 drug-related death — may hold the key to exposing just who is dealing and buying in Hollywood, especially if she takes a plea deal and flips on customers and her suppliers.

The 41-year-old pleaded not guilty to the slew of charges against her at a Downtown Los Angeles court, where she was ordered to be held in jail.

Former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani told Page Six, “There is overwhelming evidence against her. She’s in a world of hurt right now….she could potentially get life in prison.”

“She has two issues,” he added, “One, she’s now linked to two drugs related deaths, and two, she was (allegedly) dealing in methamphetamine.”

Matthew Perry and mystery woman.

This means, Rahmani said, although Sangha is at serious risk of going to prison, she has “a lot of reasons to cooperate in order to reduce her sentence.”

“She may name anyone connected to her, anyone who supplied to her or she supplied to,” he added. “Hollywood celebrities should be quaking in their boots…anyone who has anything to do with Jasveen Sangha should be really concerned right now.”

Also helping authorities with their investigation is Brooke Mueller, the ex-wife of Charlie Sheen, who has been in and out of rehab for years, where she met both Sangha and Perry, according to TMZ . Mueller is not under suspicion of wrongdoing and has not been charged with any crimes.

Perry — who was found dead aged 54 in his hot tub last October from a ketamine overdose — had live-in help who had tried to help him keep clean, including his former friend and sober coach Morgan Moses.

rugs and evidence recovered from the home of Jasveen Sangha from a property raid in March, 2024.

However, he used “hook-ups” to deliver illicit drugs to his home, according to reports.

“He would meet girls on dating apps and have them come over. There was a slew of 21 to 25-year-olds that he would meet on Raya. They would bring drugs with them,” a source told the Daily Mail back in January.

“He would hang out with them and then it would be: ‘Can you bring me something?’ He could persuade people that it would not be doing anything wrong.”

Perry also had his closest assistant, Kenny Iwamasa – who was also charged this week – fetch his drugs and administer them.

Lisa Kudrow, Matt Leblanc, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry.

In a DoJ release announcing his guilty plea, it emerged this week Iwamasa had shot Perry up three times on the day he died, including the fatal dose which left him slumped lifelessly in his hot tub.

A Hollywood insider described how power players and celebrities also hire prostitutes to bring them drugs.

One such celeb was Grammy-nominated rapper Mac Miller, who died in September 2018 aged 26 from an overdose at his Studio City home .

Heidi Fleiss, the notorious Hollywood ex-madam, told us, “Mac Miller was apparently at the studio and he wanted opiates, so he called someone but they didn’t show up.  “Then he was told that a girl could come with the drugs, but she’s $1,500 an hour. He didn’t even want the hooker, but she came with the drugs. So he took the hooker as well.”

Jasveen Sangha, Neelam Sangha.

She said of Ariana Grande’s ex, “It’s like when you order a steak and get potatoes on the side. You’re going to eat the side dish, but what you really wanted was the steak … It’s a little bit like the way I did things, but in my version, the girls came before the drugs.”

Bob Forrest, an LA-addition specialist who has appeared on “Celebrity Rehab” alongside Drew Pinsky, told Page Six there are top-secret drug rings used by stars like Tom Petty,  who died from an accidental overdose  aged 66 in January 2013 after mixing a variety of medications.

His  family blamed fentanyl , an extremely potent synthetic opioid 30 to 50 times more powerful than heroin, for his overdose.

Kenny Iwamasa/

“Nowadays, it’s just text messages,” Forrest said, “In the case of Tom Petty, the drugs were just delivered to his mailbox. He didn’t even have to see anybody. He would text, he would Venmo money and drugs would be delivered to his mailbox.

He said that celebs also often meet other addicts in clubs and at parties.

“They’re doing drugs, you’re doing drugs, they say, ‘Hey, let me introduce you to the guy I get it from.’  Then it’s just a never-ending trail of connectivity,” Forrest added.

A close friend of Perry, who worked with him for many years, added, “It’s the issue of the Doctor Feelgoods who will provide whatever the celebrity wants, like with Anna Nicole Smith.”

Dr. Salvador Plasencia.

Dr. Khristine Eroshevich was convicted in 2010 on two counts of conspiring to obtain prescriptions under a false name for the former Playboy model, who died in 2007 of an accidental overdose, aged 39. The conviction was thrown out by the trial judge but reinstated as a misdemeanor in 2015 after prosecutors appealed

The convictions were thrown out by the trial judge but reinstated after prosecutors appealed.

A former drug dealer to the stars told us, “There are so many Los Angeles doctors who will do anything, including lie, for celebrities. And I think Matthew Perry was an expert at identifying those doctors.

“You just pay cash, then you go down to the pharmacy and you get methadone, Valium, Xanax, whatever you want. It’s only for wealthy people.”

Mac Miller.

Perry was getting ketamine transfusions legally from doctors in the LA area, but as his taste for the drug grew, he started illegally sourcing doses.

Describing the deals, prosecutors claim Iwamasa reached out to one of Perry’s acquaintances, Eric Fleming, who then contacted Sangha, who feds claim had been dealing out of her house for around five years.

On October 11, Sangha texted Fleming on the Signal encrypted messaging app about her supply of ketamine and offered a sample for Perry to try, saying it was “amazing,” according to the indictment.

Fleming then allegedly sent a screenshot of Sangha’s message to Iwamasa.

“(J)ust got this from my person. She only deal(s) with high end and celebs,” he wrote. “If it were not great stuff she’d lose her business.”

Iwamasa purchased 25 vials of ketamine from Fleming and Sangha on October 14, prosecutors alleged. Just over a week later, on October. 23, Iwamasa paid $6,000 for additional ketamine.

Howard K. Stern.

Sangha said her ketamine source, whom she described as a “master chef” and “scientist,” would make another supply of additional ketamine available on October 24, according to the indictment.

“Users knew that they could always go to [Sangha] for ketamine,” Paul Samson, a recovered addict who is a co-creator of DNA4Addiction , which tests for genetic predispositions to opioid addiction, told Page Six.

“Based on what I saw on the news, I can tell you that the quantity of liquid ketamine that she had would be difficult [for a dealer] to get. Addicts love it. It is pharmaceutical grade and would need to come from a doctor. It is valued by users.”

In the week before his death, Iwamasa was injecting Perry with at least six shots of ketamine per day , until his death on October 28, according to prosecutors.

Matthew Perry's home.

After reading news reports about Perry’s death, Sangha texted Fleming: “Delete all of our messages,” according to the indictment.

Alongside Sangha, Fleming and Iwasama, Dr. Salvador Plascencia, a licensed physician, and Dr. Mark Chavez were also charged. They are alleged to have supplied Perry with ketamine separately from Sangha’s scheme.

Chavez has pleaded guilty, Plascencia has pleaded not guilty and is currently free on $100,000 bond, according to NBC .

US Attorney Martin Estrada claimed they all took advantage of the actor’s addiction and tried to “cover up” their role following his death.

Perry’s close friend told Page Six, “I believe that Matthew truly wanted to stay sober.

“People who were close to Matthew know that the ketamine was responsible for causing his death and we’re very relieved that the people responsible will now be held accountable.

“It won’t bring him back, but at least there’s some recourse.”

Disney Details Vast Theme Park Expansion Projects

The company, which has recently seen softening visitor demand, will spend billions to build new rides and expand its cruise ship fleet to 13 from nine.

In a large dark auditorium, a man speaks on a stage in front of three gigantic screens, two showing enlarged images of him, the middle one showing a cartoonlike town.

By Brooks Barnes

Reporting from Anaheim, Calif.

When Disney announced last year that it planned to spend $60 billion over the next decade to expand its theme park and cruise businesses, double the amount spent over the previous decade, the company’s stock price instantly dropped.

Wall Street wanted specifics that the company wasn’t prepared to give. Disney fans were excited for a hot second — and then they too started to demand answers, venting on social media about feeling baited. Was Disney being hypothetical about the expansion (as it has been on occasion in the past), or was this for real?

On Saturday, Disney finally showed its hand.

The company is building four new cruise ships — on top of four others it had previously announced — almost trebling the size of its current fleet by 2031. The Magic Kingdom, Disney’s flagship theme park in Florida, will undergo the largest expansion in its 53-year history, with one new “land” devoted to classic Disney villains and another focused on Pixar’s “Cars” movies. The Disneyland Resort in California will add two superhero-themed rides, a water-based “Avatar” attraction, the company’s first “Coco” ride and a Main Street, U.S.A., show starring an animatronic Walt Disney.

“We’re dreaming big,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, which includes theme parks, Disney Cruise Line, video games and consumer products. “We’re investing in every part of our portfolio and pushing boundaries as we turn what-ifs into reality.”

Disney is also working on a “Monsters, Inc.”-themed suspended roller coaster (with cars that hang under the tracks), a ride-through “Encanto” experience, a “Lion King” water ride and a major “Spider-Man” roller coaster. The project list, which includes new nighttime parades and elaborate outdoor pageants that Disney calls “spectaculars,” goes on and on.

Mr. D’Amaro detailed the projects — they’re all happening, he insisted, nothing conceptual — during a three-hour evening presentation at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, a three-day gathering in Southern California. (D23 is a reference to 1923, the year Walt Disney arrived in Hollywood.)

One important caveat: The ships and expansions detailed on Saturday, while vastly expensive, do not add up to $60 billion. That sum also covers still-secret rides, resort hotels and shopping and dining areas that Disney is planning for the longer term, along with technology and infrastructure investments.

Mr. D’Amaro’s presentation, in the works for months, came three days after Disney reported weaker-than-expected theme park results for the quarter that ended on June 29. Operating profit declined 3 percent, to $2.2 billion. Disney blamed a “moderation of consumer demand” that “exceeded our previous expectations,” along with higher operating costs. The post-pandemic surge in travel has worn off, Disney said, and lower-income Americans, battered by years of high inflation, have cut back on discretionary spending .

Disney, of course, is in the theme park business for the long haul, and many of the projects that Mr. D’Amaro unveiled will not open for two or more years. Disney’s parks have a long history of bouncing back quickly from economic downturns, in part because many parents view a trip to Disney World or Disneyland as a rite of passage for their children.

Laurent Yoon, a media analyst at Bernstein, a research firm, said in a report on Wednesday that, despite near-term challenges for Disney Experiences, “we’re not concerned.”

The biennial D23 event amounts to a giant corporate pep rally, with roughly 140,000 people paying anywhere from $79 to $2,600 for the opportunity to be marketed to. Disney trots out dozens of stars, previews upcoming movies, and hypes Disney television shows like “Bluey” and “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” Many fans come dressed as their favorite Disney character. Disney being Disney, there are confetti cannons and booths selling $30 glow wands.

It is also a spotlight moment for Disney executives. In 2022, Bob Chapek, Disney’s chief executive at the time, tried to use the event to polish his image and turn a page on what had been a tumultuous early tenure. (It didn’t work: He was fired two months later.) This year, Disney gave media credentials to roughly 1,000 reporters and online writers. Dozens came from overseas.

Mr. D’Amaro, 53, is a candidate to succeed Robert A. Iger as Disney’s chief executive when his contract expires at the end of 2026. (Mr. Iger came out of retirement to retake the helm at Disney when Mr. Chapek departed.) On Saturday, Mr. D’Amaro came across very much like a Mouseketeer in chief, striding onto the D23 stage — where a 70-piece orchestra awaited — in a zip-up sweater and jeans and effortlessly commanding the 12,000-person arena.

His presentation included a cameo by a member of the royal family (Roy P. Disney, who is Walt’s grandnephew); comedic banter between Mr. D’Amaro and stars like Ke Huy Quan and Billy Crystal; and musical performances (Meghan Trainor, Shaboozey) replete with fire, fake fog and, of course, confetti.

More than 1.2 million people watched a segment of the presentation that was live-streamed inside the Fortnite online game. In February, Disney announced a multiyear partnership with Epic Games to create a Disney universe connected to Fortnite. Mr. D’Amaro has been working with the creative chiefs of Disney’s movie studios, including Kevin Feige of Marvel and Pete Docter of Pixar, on the project.

“A lot of people learn about our characters for the first time through Fortnite,” Mr. Feige said from the stage as part of an announcement about Disney characters (Doctor Doom, the Mandalorian, Cruella de Vil) coming to Fortnite for the first time in the weeks ahead.

Stoking the fan base and refocusing attention on the “magic” has been a renewed priority for the company as it tries to move beyond “Woke Disney” attacks by conservative politicians and pundits. Disney Experiences has in many ways been at the center of that cultural battlefield, with Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida and Disney World locked in lawsuits (they made peace in June) and a reimagining of Splash Mountain , the popular log flume ride tied to a racist film, infuriating some Disney traditionalists.

From a business perspective, two areas of Mr. D’Amaro’s presentation stood out: cruise ships and Florida.

Disney Cruise Line, which introduced its first ship in 1998, has been an overlooked part of Mr. D’Amaro’s portfolio, in part because it is still relatively small. Although its cruise industry market share has doubled in recent years — the current Disney fleet operates at more than 90 percent occupancy — Disney still has only a 5 percent piece. As such, the company sees cruises as a crucial long-term growth business.

Part of the opportunity involves areas of the world where Disney cannot (yet) justify building a theme park, Mr. D’Amaro has said. India, for example, does not have enough consumer wealth to support a park. But it has more than enough for a Disney cruise ship, a floating mini-park that can act as a brand engine in the region.

In Florida, Disney is facing increased competition from the Universal Orlando Resort, which is pouring billions of dollars into a major expansion that includes a 750-acre fourth park and three new hotels. Disney has publicly downplayed the threat by saying that new attractions in Orlando tend to help the whole market, but the company is clearly taking it seriously: On Saturday, Mr. D’Amaro announced at least eight new Disney World rides.

An earlier version of this article misidentified a member of the Disney family who attended the presentation at D23. It was Roy P. Disney, not Roy O. Disney.
