Creating your perfect ski trip.

Launching your trip to parents and students

After you've booked

Once your trip’s booked, one of our expert Itinerary Coordinators will get in touch to start planning the finer details. They’ll help you to make sure that there’s plenty to keep your skiers occupied both on and off the slopes.

As well as your Halsbury Ski rep, who will be there to provide any help you need in-resort, you’ll also have 24/7 emergency contact numbers included in your final pack – so you’ll be able to get the assistance you need at any time of the day or night.

After your trip

We’ll ask you to complete a feedback survey, which will help us to continue to improve the service we provide – hopefully, we’ll see you back on the slopes next year to experience this for yourself!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an average school ski trip cost.

This season, the average school ski trips cost between £730 and £950 per person. The actual price depends on several factors, including the resort, transportation, accommodation, dates, and number of ski lessons. Our school ski experts will work closely with you to tailor a package that suits your requirements and budget.

What should I bring on a school ski trip?

We’ve put together this handy resource on what to pack for your school ski trip, including an infographic and checklist to share with your students so that everyone remembers to pack the essentials.

How many days should schools spend skiing?

Most school groups choose 9-day trips with 4 hours of ski lessons per day over 6 days. However, you can save a significant amount of money if you opt for an 8-day trip with 5 hours of ski lessons per day over 5 days. As well as one extra hour on skis, you’ll also save money on one night’s accommodation and one day’s lift pass.

Are your ski trips accompanied by a rep?

Yes, all of our ski packages include the services of a Halsbury Ski rep. They’ll usually speak the local language, so they’ll be able to help you with any issues that might pop up with equipment, meals, ski passes, or evening meals, for example.

Do you offer insurance for school ski trips?

Yes, we do offer insurance and you can choose to add it when you book your trip. It’s an optional extra, so you don’t have to take it, but it’s specifically designed for school groups (so many of our groups do choose to add it). You can find out more about it on our insurance page . If you choose not to take this insurance, please make sure you have alternative, appropriate insurance in place for your group.

Can I go on an inspection visit ahead of the trip?

Absolutely – in fact, we’d encourage you to join us on one of our inspection visits before your next school ski trip. These visits are the perfect way to test-drive the Halsbury experience before you travel with your students. We usually arrange inspection visits twice a year – around Christmas and at Easter.

New for 2025

We're one of the longest running uk school ski travel companies, so we know exactly what your group needs.

Ski Gower was established in the late 1950's by Kilby Edwards, and the model that he established then is still in successful operation now.  With his own group of school students, Kilby saw the rapid progress they made in their skiing ability, in comparison to that of the students being taught by the local ski school.  This was wholly due to there being no language barrier and by his team providing all day instruction to the students.

Our team of British ski instructors is dedicated to your school group and provides all day instruction, which normally equates to well over 30 hours of instruction in one week.

The personal experience in dealing with Ski Gower has not changed either; we aim to keep our planning and preparation simple and efficient and support our Customers as much as possible in the run up to their tour.

What our Ski Gower Customers say

"Thanks for organising such great school ski trips. The staff and children had a truly memorable trip to Switzerland. Please pass on my thanks to the ski instructors, they built a great rapport and the children all learnt a great deal. Confidence in all the kids was brimming by the end of the week."

Your Requirements

  • When? February half term Easter Term-time
  • Most Important? High resort Large mileage pistes Doorstep Skiing All of the above!
  • Where? Best Value! Italy France Austria USA Andorra
  • Our school ski trips are based upon our own experiences as fellow teachers.
  • Our professional teacher risk assessments and years of experience allow us to advise and cater for any school, unique as you are.
  • We are a family business so we guarantee to offer your school the personal service you won't find elsewhere. Despite others' promises, this is never possible in large multi-staffed companies.
  • We book you into a hotel from the outset. We don't double-book and we carry through with our promises.

321ski are proud to be considered expert school ski trip specialists for Italy. We are great fans of the characteristically Italian high quality skiing and extended snow sure seasons.

321ski specialises in the most snow sure areas of Italy and the majority of our resorts and hotels offer doorstep or 'ski in and ski out'. With this in mind our Italian programme provides excellent safeguarding options.

We get consistent excellent feedback from our 321ski school groups returning from Italy, and many of our schools re-book within weeks to return.

321ski are delighted to offer schools the highest Austrian resorts which provide a diverse range of skiing - both on glaciers and below the treeline.

With relatively short transfer times, Austria remains a popular destination for many of our 321ski loyal schools. Austria also provides an array of evening activites taht are suitable for all pupils' age ranges.

Our hotels are all in traditional Austrian mountain villages that are close to (if not on...) the slopes. Christmas markets and our established Austrian evening activities packages will further enrich your Austrian school ski trip.

321ski provides schools with both the high profile ski resorts, as well as the less well known. With the majority of our 321ski French resorts being purpose built you can be sure of a high quality ski and evening activity experience.

All of our French resorts offer skiing at February and Easter and most of our hotels are doorstep to the piste. 321ski have established solid relationships with our French hoteliers in resort, and we are proud to be able to provide bespoke packages to suit any size or budget.

321ski are a fan of the good value and high ski resorts that Andorra offers. Huge investment over the last 5 years have resulted in modern and fast lifts interlinking resorts.

The largest of these resorts is 93km of Vallnord. With Andorra being a tax haven the area is also great value for money.

A great record of sunshine couples with a long ski season for Andorra. Enjoy the local Catalan culture and scenery by choosing Andorra.

Spain now offers some of the most modern ski resorts in some of the highest ski areas in Europe. Often overlooked, Spain boasts long ski seasons as well as the best European weather for our 321ski school groups.

With 321ski's most extensive Spanish resort being over 130km in length and 2500m in height, our schools return with consistent excellent feedback about the quality of snow and extent of skiing.

With 'ski in and ski out', our Spanish resorts continue to be high up on the list of those trip leaders 'in the know', and of course the other benefit of the Spanish resorts being under-touristed is that the pistes are less busy than elsewhere. That means the pistes are safer. So what's not to like...?

321ski are proud to be working closely with both East and West Coast ski resorts in USA. Although it obviously takes longer for our 321ski groups to travel to resort, the US resorts do hold advantages over Europe.

The English ski instructors, potential to do a stop-over en route and the older drinking laws makes the US an attractive proposition. No language barriers with modern, purpose built hotels and resorts makes the US a real winner.

All of 321ski's US resorts are chosen to provide that little bit different to the next.

321ski is proud of our Canadian affiliations. The only school ski trip company to have permanent staff based in Vancouver, our Canadian programme is both extensive and market leading. This makes us the Canadian experts.

Guaranteed snowfall, dramatic scenery and no language barriers makes Canada an exclusive choice. Being the home of the Winter Olympics 2010, heavy ski investment has transformed the lifts and infrastructore for many of the Canadian resorts.

The 321ski schools usually combine the trip with a night in Vancouver and, with permanent staff locally, we couldn't think of anything better!

The Next Generation in School Ski Travel

Why School Ski Trips Are More Than Just Fun in the Snow

School ski trips are a popular choice for schools and students. Not only are they a fun and exciting way to spend time in the snow, but they also offer many educational and developmental benefits. In this blog post, we will explore why school ski trips are more than just a fun holiday and how they can benefit student education, development, foster a growth mindset and promote a transferable set of schools to classroom learning.

Skiing is an excellent physical activity for teenagers for many reasons. Firstly, skiing is a low-impact sport that is easy on the joints, making it a great option for individuals of all fitness levels. Additionally, skiing requires the use of several muscle groups, including the legs, core, and upper body, which can help teenagers develop strength and improve overall fitness. Furthermore, skiing is a cardiovascular exercise that can improve endurance, coordination, and balance. The repetitive nature of skiing helps build endurance and cardiovascular health, while the balance and coordination required to stay upright on skis can help improve those skills in teenagers.

Importance of School Trips for Student Development

Ski trips offer numerous opportunities for student life development. Firstly, skiing requires students to step outside of their comfort zone and try something new. This can help them build confidence and resilience, and develop a growth mindset that can be applied to other areas of their lives. Additionally, skiing can help students develop problem-solving and decision-making skills as they navigate the slopes and learn how to make adjustments to their technique.

Moreover, ski trips provide an ideal environment for team bonding and collaboration. Students are often divided into groups for skiing lessons or other activities, providing them with the opportunity to work together and develop interpersonal skills. This can help break down barriers between students and build positive relationships that can be carried forward into other areas of their lives.

Benefits of School Ski Trips

Ski trips offer numerous benefits for students, including promoting teamwork, building confidence, and improving physical fitness. Skiing is a sport that requires teamwork, and students must work together to support and encourage each other. This teamwork can transfer to the classroom and beyond, helping students develop important social skills in their every day lives. Skiing also requires a certain level of confidence, and students who try skiing for the first time can build their self-esteem by conquering new challenges. Additionally, skiing is an excellent form of exercise that improves cardiovascular health, balance, and coordination.

Educational Opportunities

School ski trips offer a wealth of educational opportunities that many people may not realise. For example, skiing requires students to learn about physics and mechanics, such as how to adjust their stance and weight distribution to maintain balance on the slopes. Additionally, students can learn about the geography of the area where they are skiing, as well as the cultural history of the sport. Furthermore, ski trips can provide students with the opportunity to learn about risk assessment and safety, as they are required to navigate potentially hazardous terrain while skiing. They can also learn about the importance of preparation and planning, as they must ensure they have the appropriate gear and equipment before hitting the slopes.

Planning a School Ski Trip

Planning a school ski trip requires careful consideration and organisation to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants. Here are some key points and a brief description of the planning process:

  • Choose a suitable destination : Consider factors such as accessibility, terrain, and budget when selecting a ski resort.
  • Set a date and itinerary: Plan a schedule that allows for ample skiing time, as well as other activities and downtime for students.
  • Consider transportation: Decide on a mode of transportation, such as a coach or plane, and arrange for necessary permits and insurance.
  • Hire qualified instructors : Ensure that all instructors are qualified and experienced, and have undergone relevant safety training.
  • Arrange for equipment rental: Consider the age and skill level of participants when arranging for ski and snowboard equipment rental.
  • Plan for meals and accommodation: Arrange for suitable accommodation and meal options that meet the needs and preferences of all participants.
  • Consider safety measures: Develop a comprehensive safety plan that addresses potential hazards and outlines emergency procedures.
  • Obtain necessary paperwork: Collect consent forms, medical information, and emergency contact details for all participants.
  • Communicate with participants and parents: Keep all participants and parents informed about the trip details and any updates or changes.

Transfer the Lessons Learnt

Lessons learned on school ski trips can be applied beyond just the activity of skiing and into other areas of life. For example, skiing requires a great deal of perseverance and determination, as well as the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and challenges. These skills can be transferred to academic and personal pursuits, such as studying for exams or working on a challenging project. Skiing also requires communication and teamwork, as students may need to work together to navigate difficult terrain or help each other if they fall. These skills can be applied to group projects or team sports, fostering a sense of collaboration and cooperation. Furthermore, skiing teaches students the importance of safety and risk assessment, which can be applied to a range of activities and situations, from driving to decision-making in personal and professional contexts. School ski trip planning

Alison’s top tips for first time leaders

Alison Wareham, our Senior Operations Manager, offers some sound advice for first time ski leaders.

Organising residential school ski trips is an exciting opportunity but it’s also daunting. With a good tour operator behind you, however, it can be a very rewarding and enjoyable experience!

Alison’s tips

I find it’s useful to break down the organising of your ski trip into four stages:.

The best advice I can offer is - start early; preferably a year in advance or at least a minimum of 6 months. Get support from your SMT or EVC. Send a letter out to gauge the level of interest from students, making sure the dates you’ve planned – December, February half- term or Easter - fit in with exams. Use assemblies to spread the word.

Top Tip 1 : Consider skiing at Easter for a better choice of accommodation, better prices and still great snow!

Things to consider when choosing a tour operator:

  • Get a recommendation from a colleague.
  • Check they offer a programme that matches your requirements.
  • Are their pick-up times and points convenient?
  • Is their accommodationsuitable for your group?
  • Do they provide value for money?
  • Check their surcharge policy.
  • Are they appropriately licensed with ATOL and Abta.

Top Tip 2: Cheapest is not necessarily the best!

European ski houses, resorts, ski schools, ski instructors, ski reps, après-ski activities and modes of transport all vary enormously depending on your group and your needs. A good tour operator will be able to advise and support you on all these aspects of your trip.

Ski trips aren’t cheap. You could consider doing some fundraising. Talk to your EVC, the parent-teacher association and other staff about how you can subsidise the cost of the school trip and how to fundraise. Meanwhile here are some ideas:

  •  Use specific school funds to subsidise pupil premium students.
  • Ask the PTA to organise an event or make a contribution.
  • Encourage students to fundraise with sponsored events, cake sales, bag packing, carwashes etc.

Once you have confirmed your trip, the fun begins! Your tour operator will get in touch to find out more details about your evening activity programme, rooming and dietary requirements , ferry times, transfers and timings. A good operator will have a client portal, which will make any updates and revisions to your tour a lot easier to make.

Unfortunately there’s no avoiding lists! The tour operator will need to know: the height, weight and shoe size of every person travelling so they can pre-request ski equipment; the ages, dates of birth and gender, and (if you are flying) passport details; any medical conditions, allergies or other dietary requirements; any religious-based requirements, such as halal or kosher diets.

Health and Safety: Talk to your school’s Health & Safety Officer or EVC about the trip early on. Read and fill in any of your school’s risk assessment and safety management forms. Check the operator’s own Safety Management document/s.

Top Tip 3: Consider going on a pre-tour inspection visit. These are very helpful for carrying out your own risk assessment; they give you confidence about the resort and a chance to get some skiing in too!

A ski trip is a physically demanding experience. If some of your students aren’t very physically active, you may want to consider:

  • A course of ski-fit lessons, either in normal PE or as an after-school club; and/or
  • A visit to a snow dome or dry ski slope.

Top Tip 4 : Give your students a kit list as soon as they book so they have enough time to get everything they need.

SCO Course : Why not sign up to a one-day Snowsports Course Organiser course? This is a Snowsports England accredited course, designed to give school ski trip leaders the necessary skills to choose an appropriate provider and organise a successful trip.

This is where the adventure starts!

While you’re away, your tour operator should supply you with a 24-hour emergency phone number and some operators will also be out in resort to offer help and support in person if needed. Your bi-lingual tour manager or rep – if you have one – will also swing into action and be on hand throughout the week to ensure all goes smoothly on and off the slopes.

Top Tip 5: To reduce the risk of accident or injuries, always follow your ski school’s guidance on where to ski, and when to start or finish.

Top Tip 6:   Have a duty rota and “chain of command” with a member of staff “on duty” on the slopes, taking it in turns to allow staff to free ski.

It’s also a good idea to make sure that all students have a slip of paper with their name, school name and accommodation as well as a staff contact number in a jacket pocket.

The ski school

A good operator will ensure that your ski school offers the highest quality tuition. They should be accredited by their national ski school and follow a strict regulatory code. It is important your students listen carefully and follow instructions for their own safety. But on the other hand, the instructors will do their utmost to ensure your students have a really fun time: the ski race and the presentation at the end of the week will show how much they will have learnt.

Quick guide to slopes classification

1. Green – for beginners. 2. Blue for cruisers and improvers. 3. Red – intermediate with some challenges. 4. Black – for most advanced skiers. Can be ungroomed runs leading to moguls and icy patches depending on conditions.

NB. Piste conditions change during the day; what was a cruising blue run mid morning could be more like a hard red by 4pm. Like wise a quiet red at the end of the day may be a lot easier than an icy and crowded blue.

We highly recommend that you don’t take students off-piste –save it for your personal holiday!

For more information on safety on the slopes visit: www.skiclub.co.uk/infoandadvice .

A good tour operator will love to hear all about the highs and lows of your school ski trip , and follow any social media activity you might have made while in resort. They will pass on all your comments, both positive and negative to their suppliers and use your evaluations to continually improve their service.

Top Tip 7: Consider booking for the following year as soon as you’re back:  ski resorts and accommodation often get booked up far in advance.
