Travel Associates transforms Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal to launch luxury cruise season in major brand activation via IVY PR

Travel Associates transforms Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal to launch luxury cruise season in major brand activation via IVY PR

One of Australia’s leading luxury travel agencies Travel Associates marked the launch of the luxury cruise season with an opulent overnight transformation of Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal.

Sydneysiders were dazzled by the brand’s signature purple gem taking the spotlight along Circular Quay this week as the luxury travel brand – a division of Flight Centre Travel Group – dropped a larger-than-life, experiential version of its stylised destination pin on the Overseas Passenger Terminal.

The seven metre high, Perspex gemstone and mirror clad case, designed to reflect every hue of the brand’s purple palette complete with a chic mezzanine level at its centre, serving as a nod to luxury cruise design, with details curated by one of Australia’s most creative interior minds, Claudia Lambert.

Travel Associates transforms Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal to launch luxury cruise season in major brand activation via IVY PR

The gem not only served as a stunning sight along the Harbour at one of the world’s most iconic cruise ports, but also doubled as a representation of the brand’s ‘one-of-a-kind’ positioning by recreating a series of one-of-a-kind luxury moments, inside the gem itself.

Across a two-day period, an array of activations for VIP clients, tastemakers, content creators and media came to life to emulate Travel Associates’ bespoke itinerary expertise. Each activation was carefully curated in partnership with ten of the world’s leading luxury travel cruise lines – PONANT, Silversea, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Scenic Eclipse, Hurtigruten Expeditions, Explora Journeys, Viking, Disney Cruise Line, Tauck, and Crystal Cruises.

Highlights included a PONANT and Paspaley Pearl Showcase hosted by Vogue Australia’s Edwina McCann; an immersive pop-up of the renowned Silversea Otium Spa; a Champagne masterclass hosted by John Noble with drops from Regent Seven Seas Cruises; and a whiskey and chocolate pairing by Scenic Eclipse hosted by GQ Australia.

The installation was the first collaboration between Travel Associates and IVY PR and revolved around unveiling a new perspective on the luxury travel market, and redefining the customer for luxury cruising.

Travel Associates transforms Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal to launch luxury cruise season in major brand activation via IVY PR

Travel Associates Australia and New Zealand general manager Rachel Kingswell said the brand’s activation came following a remarkable resurgence in luxury cruising across the globe: “Last year we saw luxury cruising come back in a big way but this year we’ve seen an even stronger uptake in bookings as travellers are keen to invest more in experiences over things.

“Travel Associates is proud to have taken over one of the most iconic cruise ports in the world, Sydney, alongside our incredible partners, to officially launch the 2025 luxury cruise season.

“It was incredible to be joined by Australia’s leading travel media and some familiar and famous cruise-loving faces who helped us mark this special occasion under our beautiful Travel Associates gem.”

Says Maddison Done, head of brand and marketing for Travel Associates Australia and New Zealand: “We’ve identified a new luxury traveller emerging in our market, and the way to connect with them requires a less traditional approach that blurs the lines across luxury categories, considering fashion, beauty, travel, art, food and interiors.

“We know that the new luxury traveller requires an experiential edge that crosses these verticals to cut through the travel clutter, which is why this particular installation leans on almost all of them, to really celebrate the unique USPs of luxury cruising and put our one- of-a-kind experiences on show.

“Our data shows the luxury cruise market in particular is growing at an astounding rate as this new market discovers for the first time just how enjoyable a 5-star, all-inclusive hotel experience at sea can be. It only felt right to bring this to life in a disruptive and striking marker true to our brand, surrounded by so many of our industry partners and friends from the broader luxury category.”

Auckland is New Zealand’s largest, most populated and busiest city. Located on an isthmus linking the peninsula of Northland to the expansive North Island, it seems to float between land and sea. It is one of the few cities in the world to have two separate harbours : Manukau Harbour on the Tasman Sea and Waitemata Harbour on the Pacific Ocean. You will understand why Auckland is known as " the City of Sails" when you see the forest of masts in the marina. The 328 metre-high Sky Tower offers splendid views of the city. Surrounded by dormant volcanoes such as  Mt Eden,  Auckland is noted for its abundant nature and magnificent black-sand beaches. A blend of Maori, European and Asian cultures give the city a vibrant atmosphere.

Sri Lanka to offer free 30-day tourist visas to select countries

Starting october 1, sri lanka makes visiting easier.

Mountains in Sri Lanka

Beginning October 1, Sri Lanka will offer free 30-day tourist visas to citizens from 35 nations, including the U.S. The six-month pilot program aims to boost tourism , a central part of the country’s economy. The policy waives the typical $50 fee and occurs during the island’s peak travel period, from December through mid-April.

Tourism rebounds in Sri Lanka

From the beginning of 2024 through August 19, Sri Lanka brought in 1.3 million tourists. Tourism revenue topped $1.5 billion from January through June, marking a 78% increase year over year. The country hopes to build on that success and end the year with $4 billion in revenue and 2.5 million visitors. The new visa program and the country’s “You’ll Come Back for More” global tourism marketing campaign look to keep the momentum going.

During COVID-19 and a 2022 financial crisis, Sri Lanka saw its tourism figures tumble, and the resurgence is welcome news for the country’s economy. 2023 began the turnaround, and the positive energy continued into 2024. According to the Sri Lanka Development Authority, India brings in the most visitors, at 246,922, and with the UK next at 123,992.

Cabinet spokesman and Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardana said: “The aim of the government is to transform Sri Lanka into a free visa country, much like Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam to tap into the benefits of a rapidly growing tourism industry.”

The following countries’ citizens receive free 30-day tourist visas:

  • United States
  • United Kingdom
  • Netherlands
  • Saudi Arabia
  • South Korea
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Switzerland
  • New Zealand
  • Czech Republic

With the 2024 Olympics putting Paris in the global spotlight, millions of visitors are flocking to the City of Light. Known for its iconic landmarks and world-class cuisine, Paris is undoubtedly a dream destination. But what if you find yourself with a few extra days in Paris with nothing to do? Luckily, there are several hidden gems just a short trip from the Paris city center, many of which are less than an hour away. These day trips from Paris offer a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of the capital city. 1. Loire Valley

Along Australia’s west coast, the Kimberley Region contains untouched landscapes, with horizontal waterfalls, rock formations, and pristine waters lining the landscape. Aboriginal culture offers a fascinating look into the past. The Montgomery Reef — the globe’s biggest inshore reef — rises from the ocean when the tide recedes. They’re all sights to behold, and increasingly, accessed via cruise ship.

Back in 2022, only two cruise lines ran trips in the region. But this year, that’s up to at least eight, including Scenic, Silversea Cruises, Ponant, Lindblad Expeditions, and Coral Expeditions. Here’s what makes the region special, and why a cruise is an ideal way to take it in.  Kimberley, Australia cruises: Made for the modern explorer

When it comes to choosing the perfect vacation spot, who better to guide you than those who have been there and experienced it firsthand? Here are some of the top choices that could inspire your next unforgettable vacation.  Japan

Coming in at number 20 on the list, Japan is easily one of the most beautiful countries in the world. 5 reasons to visit Antarctica

A trip to Antarctica is the ultimate travel goal. These ends-of-the-Earth lands are tough to access and offer constant changes in scenery. Here are five reasons to set off on an Antarctic cruise.

ponant new zealand cruises 2024

Treat yourself to a unique adventure

Far from major tourist routes, Antarctica remains one of the few preserved areas on the planet. Tourism is regulated. Vessels departing for the White Continent do not carry more than 200 passengers at a time. It's an opportunity for everyone to enjoy an extraordinary experience and to create unforgettable memories.

ponant new zealand cruises 2024

Witness exceptional wildlife

A true sanctuary for wildlife, Antarctica is home to a diversity of marine mammals and birds that have come ashore to breed. In the water, Weddell seals, Minke whales, humpback whales, sea leopards, and subantarctic fur seals put on an enchanting show for travellers. Both on the ground and in the air, king penguins, gentoos, southern rockhoppers, and chinstraps, along with albatrosses and petrels, jump and frolic to complete the show.

Move through incredible scenery

Blue icebergs, sparkling towers of ice, an immaculate ice floe, imposing mountain ranges and thousand-year-old glaciers serve as backdrops to these dreamy views. Here, you'll be dazzled by shades of white, blue, grey, and sometimes purple. Sunsets give the ice a fiery glow. The sheer vastness of the setting and the 'noise' of the elements evoke moments of pure emotion.

Follow in the footsteps of the greatest explorers!

Even if Antarctica remains very enigmatic today, think about what it must have been like more than a century ago. British explorer James Cook ventured there as early as 1773. Adventurers followed in their droves. From Captain Charcot to Sir Ernest Shackleton, or Roald Amundsen, who was the first to reach the South Pole, or, more recently, Paul-Émile Victor, these men have tried to unravel the mysteries of the ice floe.

Visit historical sites and scientific bases

Even today, the White Continent keeps some of its secrets for itself. Scientific bases have been set up there to carry out research, particularly relating to climate. Former whaling stations, veritable open-air museums, bear witness to the ravages of the seal and whale hunting that took place at the beginning of the 20th century. Port Lockroy is home to the southernmost post office in the world, from which you can send your loved ones a postcard featuring the Antarctic stamp.

As you can see, there are so many reasons to embark on this unique adventure to a continent that's like no other.

Mingle within a penguin colony in South Georgia

Once a major whaling station, South Georgia is now a favourite spot for many seabirds. Among them, the king penguin is a happy resident. If you're lucky enough to stop off at Salisbury Plain , you'll enjoy a unique experience in the middle of a colony of no fewer than 250,000 penguins. They move around happily without regard for the few human beings who come to visit them. A unique and touching moment.

First crossed by the British explorer James Cook in 1773, it's an integral part of the history of Antarctica. Travellers will feel a true sense of accomplishment and joy as they follow in the footsteps of the great explorers .

Get up close to a majestic marine fauna

From the Falkland Islands to the Antarctic Peninsula, Antarctic cruises are an opportunity for unforgettable encounters with marine mammals. It's not uncommon to encounter many seals, including subantarctic fur seals and elephant seals, as well as killer whales. When the humpback whales arrive, it truly is the icing on the cake.

Behold the great icebergs

Be they tabular, blocky or pinnacled, icebergs all have a tendency to leave travellers speechless. These giants of the seas are indescribable! As majestic as they are worrying, their silhouettes rise up with the waves and plunge deep into the waters with a colourful blend of thousand shades of blue, from light turquoise to the darkest navy, all sparkling under the icy sun of Antarctica.

Visit a unique natural sanctuary

Little known and completely preserved, New Zealand's subantarctic islands are among the last remaining areas completely unspoilt by human presence on the planet. Some of these little pieces of land dotted around the ocean are inaccessible and therefore totally protected from human activity. The Snares Islands, Bounty Islands, Antipodes Islands, Auckland Islands and Campbell Islands thus represent an invaluable haven of peace for the endemic species that inhabit them, including 126 bird species.
