Bringing you to the highly acclaimed Titanic Experience in Belfast, Giant’s Causeway, Dark Hedges from Belfast on this day trip.

Our Giant’s Causeway tour from Belfast including Titanic museum entrance is a tour that is not to be missed!

Considering the Titanic Museum in Belfast is one of the most expensive tourist attractions in Europe (almost £20 entrance fee…) and the Giant’s Causeway is the most-visited tourist attraction in Northern Ireland, we at Finn McCools Tours have decided to make an affordable day tour from Belfast that include both of the must-see attractions in Northern Ireland. At a bargain price as well!!!

To keep in mind when booking your Giant’s Causeway Tour –

One of our other tours, Giant’s Causeway tour from Belfast , is a shorter tour that finishes at around 3pm. If you are travelling from Dublin, you can take this Giant’s Causeway and Titanic tour from Dublin .

This tour is designed to be relaxing and laid back, well-broken up and only visiting tourist attractions that are worth seeing and visiting. To make the most out of your day in Northern Ireland.

For example, we do not visit the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge on this tour. The Bridge brings a very frustrating experience that will make your day rushed and take away from the enjoyment (despite what the pictures online look like). You will have to walk one kilometre really fast navigating over a hundred steps, just to stand in line and for 40 minutes to cross. Just to turn around immediately and standing in line for up to 40 minutes to cross back and hurry to get back to the bus. Not to mention all operators in Belfast charges an extra £8 to cross the Bridge (not included in their price online).

All of this to cross a 30-metre long bridge made from thick steel cables.

0915 Departing our pick up on Chichester Street in Belfast, you can expect our highly trained guide to start entertaining you with stories of Belfast, Northern Ireland and Ireland. Our guides will make sure to tell you about the unique Irish myths and legends on the way to our first stop.

(This tour actually starts and ends in Dublin. Belfast is the second stop of the tour. If you are planning to go to Dublin on the same day after this tour, you can pay an extra £20 per person to get a ride to Dublin. Drop off in Dublin is around 7:30pm/ 8:30pm, on the top of O’Connell Street, around 5-minute walk to the Spire. You can bring your luggage. There is a storage compartment underneath the coach.)

dunluce castle

DUNLUCE CASTLE (photo stop)

En route to the Giant’s Causeway, we will stop for 5 minutes for a photo stop at the most photogenic castle ruins in Ireland. Dated as long ago as before 1513, this castle was built on a rock extending into the ocean. Giving any photographer an amazing photo opportunity. The location we use for this stop provides with the perfect location for a picture that will amaze your friends on Facebook.

causeway giant

GIANT’S CAUSEWAY – Around 1.5 hours

Spend around 1.5 hours exploring the Giant’s Causeway. As the 8th wonder of the World, there is a lot of amazing geology to explore and walks to take. By far the most visited tourist attraction in Northern Ireland. The Giant’s Causeway consists of 40,000 interlocking hexagonal basalt columns formed between 50 and 60 million years ago. According to Irish mythical legend, the creation of the Giant’s Causeway was formed by the Irish Giant Finn McCool, in an attempt to build a bridge to Scotland. In an effort to go fight the Scottish Giant Bennandonner.

game of thrones trees

DARK HEDGES – Around 20 minutes

This 300-year-old lane of beech trees makes for a wonderful photo opportunity. Originally planted as a drive way to Gracehill house to impress visitors. Considered the most photographed natural phenomena in Northern Ireland, these trees featured in some films and tv series like Game of Throne and the new Transformers movie and many more.

This is not surprising as the different times of year leads to completely different levels of beauty and views at the Hedges. From the original 300 Beach trees that were planted here on the 2 sides of the road, there is less that 80 left.  So don’t miss the opportunity to see them in all their glory.

It is also a very nice break on our drive back to Belfast. Breaking up the drive to make the tour more relaxed and less time on the bus.

belfast titanic

TITANIC MUSEUM – Around 1.5 hours (Entrance Fee included; Saves £18!)

Travel North from Dublin

You'll meet your local guide, driver, and the rest of your group at a convenient location in central Dublin as you head off on a full-day adventure to Northern Ireland. Hop onto your air-conditioned coach for a beautiful morning drive up the Irish coast and countryside. After a drive of roughly 3 hours, you'll arrive on the dramatic northern coast of the Emerald Isle.

The Dark Hedges and Dunluce Castle

After a picturesque drive through the rolling hills of Ireland, the first stop of the day is the Dark Hedges. Lined by centuries-old beech trees that create an otherworldly atmosphere, the Hedges have been a setting of many films like Transformers and TV series like HBO's Game of Thrones. On the latter, the Hedges portrayed the King's Road which connected King's Landing to Winterfell.

Continuing through the land of Northern Ireland (and Westeros) you'll stop for a photo at the historic Dunluce Castle. This medieval stone fortress is full of history from the Vikings to the Spanish Armada. It is most famous though today as the home of House Greyjoy on the Island of Pyke in Game of Thrones.

The Giant's Causeway

Just down the road from Dunluce Castle, you'll arrive at the natural marvel that is the Giant's Causeway. Created about 50 million years ago from the cooling of Volcanic lava, the Causeway is a massive pathway of hexagonal stone structures that lead out from the cliffs into the Irish Sea. A geologically stunning area, it has become the setting for legends and mythology for ages.

Your guide will tell the legend of the great Finn McCool in depth. The story goes that the Irish giant built the Causeway to Scotland only to discover that the giants in Scotland were not so friendly. Long story short (not to spoil your guides in-depth rendition), Irish cunning prevailed and a Scottish giant destroyed the causeway in fear of the great Finn McCool.

The Giant's Causeway is one of the most beautiful sights on earth. On a sunny day, you can look across and see the Scottish isles in the distance. Walk through the amazing structure, taking in the perfect symmetry of the columns, the amazing flora and fauna around, as well as that wonderful Atlantic breeze on the shore.

After a few fascinating stories from your guide, you'll have plenty of time to walk on the rocks, find a nice spot to sit and enjoy the views, or drop into the visitor center to learn more about the geology of this unique location.

The Titanic Experience, Belfast

The ocean liner RMS Titanic is undoubtedly history's most famous ship, subject of countless movies and books since its maiden voyage ended in disaster in April 1912. Though it departed from Southampton in England, the ill-fated boat was actually built in Belfast. A pride of the famous ship-building city, Titanic was seen as the future of travel. Today, on the site where the boat was built, you will visit the Titanic Experience.

At the museum and learning center, you'll travel through the history of the Titanic from concept to building to the stories of the passengers and crew of the voyage, both victims and survivors. Through interactive experiences and even a historical amusement ride, the Titanic Belfast is a must-see experience while in Northern Ireland.

After visiting the Titanic Belfast, enjoy some free time in the Northern Irish capital before heading back to Dublin for the evening. This great value day trip is sure to be a top memory on your Irish vacation!

The Giants Causeway is a wonder of Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland's most famous landmark, the Giant's Causeway, has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1986. About 50 million years ago, the causeway was formed and draws visitors from far and wide to north Antrim. It is named after the legend of Finn MacCool. A trip to the Giants Causeway is a must-see, regardless of whether you are researching Ireland or planning a vacation there!

Northern Ireland's coastline is renowned for its scenic beauty, and the Giant's Causeway is its crowning glory, known as the 8th Wonder of the World by the Irish.

The almost perfect symmetry of these rock formations would have been regarded by our ancestors as otherworldly, and the Giant's Causeway would have given rise to vivid legends. According to legend, the mythical Irish giant Finn MacCool built the causeway so he could fight a rival giant, Benandonner, in Scotland. Finn found the Scottish giant asleep but vastly larger than himself, so he returned across the causeway. Benandonner woke up and ran across the causeway in search of Finn. Finn's wife dressed up her husband as a baby and told Benandonner that Finn wasn't at home and that he shouldn't wake up the baby. The moment Benandonner saw the baby, he thought Finn must be massive if the baby was so big. Then he turned tail and fled across the causeway, ripping it up as he went. In addition to the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland, similar formations can also be found on the Scottish island of Staffa.

According to the Giant's Causeway website, there are accessible parking spaces and accessible toilets (including a Changing Places toilet!) at the visitor center. This 16-page accessibility guide contains a lot of information: Giants Causeway accessibility guide

  • Wear sensible clothing and footwear, as the stones can be slippery.
  • An outdoor audio guide is available, in addition to another guide for visually impaired visitors.
  • The site includes three parking lots and a park-and-ride area.
  • Paths down to the causeway are partially accessible, as are the grounds.
  • The Visitor Centre features a number of interactive exhibition; there's a small fee to enter.

Two days in Northern Ireland: Fitting in the best things to do

N orthern Ireland is an underrated destination for tourists. From the legendary Giant's Causeway to buzzing Belfast to one of Ireland's most overlooked cities , there are some amazing things to do here.

However, most tourists who come to Ireland are there for a limited amount of time. It's hard to squeeze in everything there is to do into your allotted time on the Emerald Isle.

With that being said, we think it would be a damn shame to skip Northern Ireland during your trip. Albeit small, Northern Ireland is full of incredible scenery , bustling culture , and some of the most underrated attractions in all of Europe.

Read more: Top five things to do in Belfast according to visitors

How do you make sure you enjoy the best of what Northern Ireland has to offer? We recommend giving yourself two days. Get ready, because you are in for a busy time.

Morning: Museum of Free Derry and the old city walls

You have to be smart about how you do your time in Northern Ireland, given only two days. We recommend starting in the city of Derry, which has a fascinating and sometimes tragic history .

The Museum of Free Derry focuses on the 1960s civil rights movement in the city, The Troubles , the Free Derry Irish nationalist movement in the early 1970s, and the horror of Bloody Sunday . It is a fascinating visit and gives you a really good idea of what life was like in Derry during The Troubles, especially for the city's Catholic population.

Following that, it's time for more history as you walk around the old city walls. This intact 17th-century enclosure has seven gates and 24 restored canons.

If you have time, there are other sites and attractions to enjoy in Derry including the Derry Girls mural and the Tower Museum.

Afternoon: The Giant's Causeway

From Derry City, you can reach the Giant's Causeway in an hour by car. We recommend that you rent a car and drive while in Northern Ireland, especially to take in the Causeway Coastal Route while traveling from place to place .

The Giant's Causeway is perhaps the most famous site in Northern Ireland and certainly one of the most famous landmarks in all of Ireland. This magnificent area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns was formed millions of years ago following a volcanic fissure eruption.

It is Northern Ireland's only UNESCO World Heritage site . Here, you will find a state-of-the-art visitor center that will teach you all about the fascinating natural area as well as the legends and folklore attached to it.

Evening: Dinner and drinks in Belfast

From the Giant's Causeway, it's time to travel to the city of Belfast because tomorrow, you have plenty of things to enjoy there. But for tonight, it's time to enjoy a delicious meal in one of the city's best-rated restaurants.

You are spoilt for choice in terms of eating in Belfast. Some of the standouts include The Ginger Bistro, A Peculiar Tea, Blank, Cyprus Avenue, and OX.

Morning: Gobbins Cliff Path

Located just north of Belfast, The Gobbins Cliff Path was recently named as one of the most dramatic walks in Europe . We have to say, we completely agree. It's not often that you get to literally walk along the face of a cliff.

You will explore caves, take in breathtaking coastal scenery , and travel through time to learn about this location's fascinating history. If you are a fan of amazing nature, this is simply unmissable.

Afternoon: Titanic Belfast and Black Cab tour

It's back to the city for the afternoon to visit Titanic Belfast. This incredibly immersive museum tells the story of how the doomed ship was built in Belfast before it set off for its journey across the Atlantic.

You will also learn about what life was like onboard the ship and some of the people who were there. The self-guided tour is comprised of over nine interactive galleries.

Your afternoon in Belfast isn't over just yet as you have to do the Black Cab Tour, which this year was revealed to be one of the best tourist experiences in the world . During your tour, you will learn all about what it was like during The Troubles in Belfast joined by your expert guide.

Evening: Live music and pints

Don't worry, we're not going to suggest even more activity after that. By now, you have earned a pint in a gorgeous pub.

Luckily, there is no shortage of that in Belfast. In fact, there are several bars where you can chill with a pint and enjoy some live music .

Some of the top spots for music, craic, and pints in the city of Belfast include Kelly's Cellars, Fibber Magee's, and The John Hewitt.
