NEWS: Yard Act announce Spring 2023 tour dates and share new live video for ‘Rich’

Mercury Prize Nominees, Yard Act , have just announced their biggest headline shows to date in their scheduled 2023 Spring Tour. The Leeds quartet will play at O2 Academy, Brixton, Albert Hall, Manchester, Barrowlands, Glasgow and Vicar Street, Dublin. General sale commences on Tuesday 18 October. To celebrate the upcoming shows, they have released a specially recorded live performance of ‘Rich,’ a track that seems more relevant than ever in the current political climate, filmed at the band’s spiritual home: Leeds’ legendary Brudenell Social Club.

Fans won’t have to wait that long for a notoriously riotous Yard Act gig in a town near them soon. Renowned for their verve, banter, intelligence, musical prowess wit and pathos, Yard Act kick off their entirely sold out autumn/winter tour next month – which includes London’s O2 Kentish Town Forum on 1 December. This follows another sold out run in February and March this year, after playing festivals including Glastonbury and recent shows supporting Jack White .

Yard Act’s 2022 debut album The Overload is shortlisted for the 2022 Mercury Prize and the band will perform live from the ceremony on BBC Four and iPlayer on Tuesday 18 October. Yard Act will also make their first trip to Australia and New Zealand in January and February to play Laneway Festival alongside  Fontaines DC, Phoebe Bridgers, and more.

The Overload was the subject of stellar reviews across the board, with the Official Charts Company also confirming Yard Act as the year’s Biggest Breakthrough Act so far crowning The Overload as the best selling album on vinyl of Q1 2022. 

This summer the band released a special version of the beautifully existential and uplifting album track ‘ 100% Endurance ,’ featuring the legendary Elton John, which was crowned Jo Whiley’s Tune Of The Week on BBC Radio 2. The music video for the original version of ‘ 100% Endurance ‘ stars multi-award winning actor and fan of the band David Thewlis and represents the first time Thewlis has filmed in his hometown Blackpool. The video is nominated for Best Alternative Video – UK and Best Performance in a Video at this year’s UK Music Video Awards taking place on 27 October. With Lyrics like, “All you ever needed has always been within you/ Gimme some of that good stuff that human spirit/100% endurance,” it could absolutely be a 21st Century post pandemic anthem.

Yard Act made their UK television debut last November, performing the album’s title track and lead single on Later… with Jools Holland . The band were recently awarded the Grulke Prize for Developing non-US Act at SXSW this year, playing no less than 10 completely packed out shows at the festival. They also made their US TV debut on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and have just toured the country’s east coast with Gustaf in support. Yard Act announce new UK and Ireland shows for 2023

Yard Act have announced four UK and Ireland shows for 2023 which will bring the curtain down on the band’s tour behind their debut album, ‘The Overload’ .

Released back in January, ‘The Overload’ has been nominated for next week’s 2022 Mercury Prize .

Having toured extensively this year in support of the record – the band were named as this summer’s most-booked new act at European festivals – Yard Act will now “put ‘The Overload’ tour schedule to bed” with four of their biggest headline shows to date in April and May 2023.

“OK, we are putting ‘The Overload’ tour schedule to bed,” the four-piece wrote in an announcement this morning (October 14).

Yard Act Announce Album and Tour, Share Video for New Song “Dream Job”: Watch

The Leeds band Yard Act have announced a 2024 tour and their new album, Where’s My Utopia? The album arrives March 1 via Republic , and the tour kicks off March 13. The band begins in Europe and then has dates lined up across the North American West Coast. Check out the video for the lead single, “ Dream Job ,” which follows this year’s non-album standalone track “ The Trench Coat Museum ” and debut LP The Overload .

In a statement, Yard Act’s vocalist, James Smith, referred to “Dream Job” as “an apt introduction to the themes explored on Where's My Utopia? —though not all encompassing.” He continued:

In part, I was scrutinizing and mocking myself for being a moaning ungrateful little brat, whilst also trying to address how the music industry is this rather uncontrollable beast that hurtles forward unthinkingly and every single person involved in it plays their part. Myself included, obviously. As with pretty much everything else going through my head last year, trying to find the right time to articulate the complexity of emotions I was feeling and the severity to which I was feeling them couldn't be found—or accommodated, so instead I tried to capture it in a pop song that lasts less than three minutes once the fog had cleared a bit. It’s good and bad. I’m still glad that everything that happened to me happened.

The Leeds quartet are also among the British artists who have notched multiple nominations for their music videos and other visual projects at this year’s UK Music Video Awards , scheduled to take place for the first time at Magazine, the new state-of-the-art events venue near The O2 in North Greenwich, on October 27.

Journey back to 1971’s Chicago, when Black entrepreneur and radio DJ Don Cornelius transformed the pop culture landscape by recognizing the lack of Black musical artists on television. Within a year, his local dance show went national and became one of the longest-running shows in television history. Elegant, determined, and complicated, Cornelius set trends for nearly 40 years by giving a stage—and a camera—to the artists who created the soundtrack of multiple generations, and to the dancers, including Rosie Perez and Jody Watley, who became superstars.

The acclaimed creative team of Hippest Trip  includes Tony Award–nominated playwright and MacArthur Genius Dominique Morisseau (Broadway’s Ain’t Too Proud ; The Detroit Project ), three-time Tony Award–nominated and Obie Award–winning choreographer Camille A. Brown (A.C.T.’s Toni Stone ; Broadway’s for colored girls... ), and the Apollo Theater’s acclaimed executive director Kamilah Forbes .
