We have five Zodiac boats: Comet at 36 feet, Kida Girl at 26 feet, Eagle Eye at 25 feet, Sea Star at 22 feet and our newest boat, Krazy Koda. Comet and Eagle Eye are ex-Navy seal boats, Sea Star is an ex-Coast Guard boat and Kida Girl is Jimmy Buffet’s tender boat which he used with his yacht.

All the boats have comfortable seating of 6 – 13 seats. These fast, maneuverable boats are extremely safe since they are the boats that are deployed to save the bigger sinking boats. You seldom get seasick on these boats since they have a lower center of gravity and do not rock side to side like bigger boats do. We also have gas engines since diesel engine fumes make people seasick.

Booked a last-minute whale watching trip and had a fantastic time. We were assigned to Captain Joe’s boat and he was friendly and fun and have a lot of knowledge. We booked a 1 1/2 hour tour and saw two whales several times! A trip out was so fun and exciting and the trip back was a wild ride I would definitely book a charter with this company again

We booked with Carrie because of her background and wanted the best experience. The movie in the beginning was great to see because it showed you how much Carrie loves what she does and you learn about whales before seeing them. She makes a point of knowing everyone’s names and making it a personable experience. She even gave my kids gum when their tummys were upset from the rocking.

We saw 3 different whales during our trip. Its incredible how much Carrie knows about each one.

Whale Watching in Depoe Bay: Unforgettable Grey Whale Encounters on the Oregon Coast

Depoe Bay, known as the "Whale Watching Capital of the Oregon Coast," offers unparalleled whale watching experiences almost year-round. Thanks to the town's proximity to the ocean (less than a minute by boat from our dock), you'll be spotting whales in no time! Stay updated with the latest sightings and reports on our website.

From December through February and March through May, join us as we venture offshore to witness the breathtaking migration of Grey Whales. In winter, these gentle giants journey south from their Alaskan feeding grounds to the warm, shallow lagoons off northern Mexico. In spring, they return north to Alaska. As the Grey Whales pass Depoe Bay in large numbers, you'll be treated to remarkable sightings on 98% of our cruises, accompanied by the exhilarating cry, "Thar she blows!"

Onboard, our knowledgeable captains share fascinating facts and stories about the whales via the ship's PA system. They expertly navigate our vessels close to the pods, offering extraordinary views of large spouts, whale backs, and mesmerizing deep dives with impressive tail displays. If you're lucky, you might witness a breach – an awe-inspiring sight as these 45-foot, 40-ton creatures launch three-quarters of their bodies out of the water!

During the summer and fall months, Depoe Bay's whale watching continues to captivate visitors. Some Grey Whales choose not to migrate further north and instead make their home near Depoe Bay from late June through October. Often found less than half a mile from the shore, these "resident whales" offer exceptional sightings as they feed off Depoe Bay's rich reef areas. Our boats often remain stationary while the whales feed, revealing their entire bodies just below the surface next to the vessels. Our captains even recognize them by name, showcasing the friendly relationship we share with these magnificent creatures.

Our comfortable, spacious vessels are designed for ultimate whale watching experiences on the Oregon Coast. Enjoy on-board amenities like restrooms, heated cabins, and the freedom to walk around without wearing a life vest. Embark on a one or two-hour scenic tour to see whales, seals, and other unique marine life up close – an adventure that's safe, fun, and unforgettable!

For those seeking a more immersive experience, we offer two-hour excursions aboard our boats. These longer trips, led by our experienced captains, take you on a special journey to discover whales, birds, and the mysteries of the deep. Dive into your sense of adventure and create lasting memories on the beautiful Oregon Coast.

Check out the current sightings and report .

The Best Whale Watching Tours In Depoe Bay

by Nikki Cleveland

Depoe Bay , a small fishing village on the Central Coast, is also known as the Whale Watching Capital of Oregon. The town sits right along Highway 101, on the cliffs above the ocean and the smallest navigable harbor in the world.

Resident gray whales can be spotted off-shore almost year-round, but the town is also a prime location to watch for migrating gray whales as they travel between the warm waters of Mexico in the winter and cold Arctic waters during the spring and summer.

Of course, any trip to Depoe Bay should include a whale watching tour. While you can occasionally spot the whales breaching and blowing from afar, charter tours provide a much more up-close experience. These are some of the best places that offer whale watching tours in Depoe Bay.

Whale’s Tail Charters offers one-hour whale watching tours ($30) and one-and-a-half-hour tours ($40) from March through September. Their fleet of low-to-the-water Zodiac boats hold just six passengers each, so it is more of a personalized experience.

“We take 2-6 people so there’s no overcrowding and no diesel fumes to smell,” They share on their website. “We have 360° viewing, it’s quiet, roomy, and faster than the larger boats so you get to spend more time around the whales.”

More information can be found on their website and Facebook page .

When to Go Whale Watching on the Oregon Coast

Although whales can be spotted year-round, whale watching season in Oregon experiences two peak periods (summer and fall), offering ample opportunities for visitors to witness these magnificent creatures in action.

migrating whales

Winter Migration : During the winter migration, approximately 20,000 gray whales journey south from their feeding grounds in the Bering Sea in Alaska to the warm lagoons of Baja, Mexico. November brings warmer waters to the southern California peninsula, so this stage of their migration is the perfect opportunity to catch a glimpse of these gentle giants as they pass by the Oregon shores.

Spring Migration (Late February to May) : In the spring, gray whales travel north, making their way back to British Columbia and Alaskan waters from their breeding grounds in Baja California. During this northbound migration, mother whales and their calves travel closer to the shoreline, providing an excellent opportunity for whale-watching enthusiasts to observe them up close.

Resident Gray Whales ( June to Mid-November) : Besides the migrating gray whales, there is a resident population of over 200 gray whales that can be seen cruising the coast from early summer until mid-November. This period is an excellent time for whale watching in Oregon as well, as the resident whales are more likely to be seen feeding and playing near the coast.

Whale Watch Week : Twice a year during late December and late March, Oregon State Parks hosts a celebration of migrating whales and other marine mammals. Over 20 volunteer stations are set up at the best whale-watching sites along the coast to assist visitors in spotting these magnificent creatures and to provide interesting facts about them. If you're interested in attending Whale Watch Week, be sure to check out the whalespoken.org website for dates and locations.

Whale Species You Can Encounter on the Oregon Coast

Whale watching along Oregon's shores presents an opportunity to witness a diverse range of whale species and other marine creatures. The most commonly spotted whales include:

Gray Whales

Gray whales (also spelled Grey Whales) are the most frequently seen species along the Oregon Coast, especially during their annual migration. These majestic giants can grow up to 50 feet in length and weigh up to 40 tons. With their characteristic mottled gray appearance and heart-shaped blows, the gray whale is a sight to behold.

These are large whales, coming in just behind the blue whale in terms of length. Fin whales, also known as razorback whales, are the second-largest mammal on earth, reaching lengths of up to 90 feet and weighing up to 82 tons.

whale watching tour depoe bay oregon

They have sleek bodies with distinctive ridges on their backs, which gives them their nickname. Fin whales are found in all of the world's oceans and are known for their long migrations, as they travel from polar feeding grounds to temperate breeding grounds. They are baleen whales, feeding on small fish, krill, and squid by filtering water through comb-like plates in their mouths.

Blue Whales

Blue whales are the largest animals on Earth, reaching up to 100 feet in length and weighing as much as 200 tons. While they are not as common as gray whales, these gentle giants can sometimes be spotted off the Oregon Coast, especially during the summer months.

Unfortunately, the giant blue whales were once heavily hunted, and their populations were severely depleted. Today, they are a protected species, but they still face threats from climate change, ocean pollution, and ship strikes.

Killer Whales (Orcas)

Although not as common as gray or blue whales, orcas are occasionally seen along Oregon's shorelines. These highly intelligent and social marine mammals are known for their striking black-and-white appearance and their powerful hunting abilities.

Humpback Whales

Humpback whales are well-known for their acrobatic displays, including breaching and slapping their long pectoral fins on the water's surface. Growing up to 50 feet in length, these magnificent creatures can be spotted along the coast of Oregon, particularly during their migration.

They are most commonly observed along Oregon's coastline during their northern migration from Mexico to Alaska, which occurs in the spring and early summer season, typically from mid or late March to June. However, it is possible to spot them year-round as some humpback whales may stay in the area to feed or take breaks during their migration.

Minke Whales

These creatures are the smallest of the baleen whales, measuring up to 30 feet long. These elusive whales are known for their quick, sleek movements and can occasionally be seen in Oregon's coastal waters.

minke whale

Sperm Whales

Sperm whales, the largest toothed whales, can grow up to 60 feet in length and weigh as much as 45 tons. Although not commonly seen along Oregon's piece of the Pacific Ocean, these deep-diving whales are known for their distinctive, block-shaped head and incredible diving abilities.

Other Marine Life

In addition to the various whale species, Oregon is home to a plethora of oceanic life, including bottlenose dolphins, sea lions, harbor seals, and numerous seabird species.

Whale Watching Excursions

whale watching oregon coast

Whale-watching excursions are typically offered by boat, providing a unique perspective on the whales and their natural habitat. These tours can range from a few hours to an entire day and often include the chance to see other ocean life, such as dolphins and seals. Keep in mind that variable ocean conditions can make or break your tour plans, so it's best to plan accordingly.

Some of the best tours include :

Whale Research EcoExcursions , Depoe Bay. Trips are captained by a Marine Biologist and Expert Marine Naturalists on ex-military/navy seal Zodiac boats. The focus of the crew members is to provide guests with a safe, comfortable, and especially educational trip, learning about whale behavior while hopefully catching a glimpse of them!

Whale's Tail Charters , Depoe Bay. Learn about our resident gray whales and experience transiting the world’s smallest navigable harbor in one of their Zodiac RHIB boats. The boats are low to the water and only take 2-6 passengers at a time for a more intimate whale watch experience.

Dockside Charters , Depoe Bay. This company has been in business for over 35 years and offers Delta Charter boats with cabins and outdoor seating enough to accommodate large groups or the whole family. Last year, I personally went deep sea fishing with these folks, catching enough halibut and Dungeness crab to completely stock my freezer.

Tradewinds Charters , Depoe Bay. This is the granddaddy of charters on the Oregon Coast. Since 1938, Tradewinds has been taking folks out to fish and whale watch from their private dock. Daily whale watch tours range from 1-2 hours, with frequent sightings of gray and humpback whales, as well as orcas.

Whale Watching Trips by Kayak

For a more intimate and adventurous whale-watching experience, consider taking a guided kayak tour. Paddling through the coastal waters lets you get closer to the whales, offering an unforgettable experience.

gray whale feeding

We personally love South Coast Tours out of Port Orford. Not only do they offer whale watch boat excursions on the bay, but a variety of other paddling and fishing experiences on the Rogue River as well. Take their guided Kayak Tour to Orford Heads to paddle through kelp beds and cultural sites, spotting resident gray whales if you're lucky!

Land-Based Whale-Watching Tours

If you prefer to stay on solid ground, land-based whale-watching tours are available at various locations along the Oregon coastline. These tours often include informative talks, guided walks, and the opportunity to learn more about the whales and their habitat.

Tips for a Successful Whale-Watching Experience on the Oregon Coast

To make the most of your whale-watching adventure in Oregon, keep the following tips in mind:

Choose the Right Time of Year : As mentioned earlier, the best times for whale watching in Oregon are during the winter and spring migrations. However, the resident gray whale population offers viewing opportunities throughout the summer and fall as well.

Dress Appropriately : Oregon's coastal weather can be unpredictable, so it's essential to dress in layers and be prepared for varying temperatures and conditions. Waterproof clothing and comfortable shoes are also recommended, especially for boat or kayak tours.

Bring Binoculars and a Camera : To get the best view of the whales, binoculars are a must. Additionally, bring a camera to capture the incredible moments you'll experience during your whale-watching adventure. Watch for water spouts as the whales come up to breathe before diving again.

Be Patient : Whale watching is a waiting game, so patience is key. Whales may not always be visible right away, but with a little time and perseverance, you're likely to spot these magnificent creatures.

Respect the Whales and Their Habitat : Remember that you are a guest in the whales' natural habitat. Maintain a respectful distance, follow guidelines provided by your tour operator, and avoid disturbing the whales or other oceanic life.

Whale watching on the Oregon Coast is a truly awe-inspiring experience that allows you to witness the incredible beauty of marine mammals. With a variety of whale species, prime locations, and guided tours available, there's no better place to embark on a whale-watching adventure. So pack your binoculars, dress for the weather, and get ready to be amazed by the magnificent whales of Oregon's oceans.

Depoe Bay: The Best Place in Oregon to Whale Watch

Have you ever wondered where the best place to whale watch is?

Maybe you are like most locals who wait anxiously to receive that text message saying where the Orcas are today?

If so, read this article to find out what locals say is the best place to spot whales and why this is.

Oregon is known for its natural beauty, and one of the best ways to experience that beauty is by whale watching.

The tiny town of Depoe Bay is widely considered the best place in Oregon to go whale watching , thanks to its prime location and abundance of whales.

Whether you are a first-time whale watcher or an experienced enthusiast, Depoe Bay is worth visiting.

Here is what you need to know about Depoe Bay and whale watching in Oregon.

Depoe Bay

Depoe Bay is considered the best place in Oregon for whale watching for a few reasons.

The town is situated on a natural whale watching platform- a high rocky bluff that provides an ideal vantage point for spotting whales as they migrate along the Oregon Coast.

Depoe Bay is home to whale-watching vessels, and it is equipped with hydrophones, which allow visitors to listen to the vocalizations of the whales as they swim by.

The staff at the Whale Watching Center are experts in identifying and interpreting whale behavior, and they are always willing to share their knowledge with visitors.

As a result, a trip to Depoe Bay is an educational and memorable experience for everyone in the family.

Whale Watch Without Leaving the Shore

There are several ways to enjoy whale watching without leaving the shore.

These ways include

  • watching from the shoreline to see if you can spot the whales
  • head to a museum that talks about whales
  • Watch whales from the comfort of your own home by finding websites or apps that offer live streams or recordings of whale activity.

Tips for First-Time Whale Watchers

Whale watch

Whale watching can be a fun and rewarding experience for people of all ages. If you are planning to go whale watching for the first time, here are a few tips to help you have a successful experience:

-Be patient. Whale watching can be a slow process, so don't expect to see whales every time you go out.

-Be prepared for cold weather. The Oregon Coast can be cold and is often time windy. Most locals dress in layers, so they are prepared for whatever weather comes up.

-Bring binoculars. Binoculars will help you get a closer look at whales when they are close to shore.

-The best time to see the whales is June through September. This is when the resident gray whales return to the Oregon Coast.

-Check the sightings. Whales are wild creatures, and whale watching is never guaranteed. Check on the latest sightings to see when the most recent sighting was.

– Get updated daily whale sightings at this website: .

Whale Watching Center

Perched on a seawall with expansive ocean views and a large viewing deck, the Whale Watching Center in Depoe Bay is the perfect spot to see whales. Park staff and volunteers are ready to answer your questions and help you spot whales and other marine life. The center is equipped with binoculars for visitors, and displays feature facts about whales and information on what swimming patterns you might see.

During the busiest weeks, thousands of gray whales migrate past on their way to and from the waters of Alaska and Mexico. We keep watch all year long; you never know what might swim by. We also see humpback whales, orcas, dolphins, porpoise and even blue whales.

When is the best time to see whales?

In the winter we watch nearly 20,000 gray whales from mid-December through mid-January as they travel south to the warm lagoons of Baja Mexico.

Spring watching begins in late March as the gray whales travel north on their way towards Alaska, calves in tow. The first surge swims by around the end of March, and we watch the north-bound whales all the way until June.

Summer and fall brings resident whales close to shore to feed from June to mid-November. Depoe Bay is a hot spot for whales looking for food this time of year. We consistently see between 5 and 15 whales every day!

Learn more about whale watching  at Oregon State Parks and our two Whale Watch Week events in late December and March.

Be a volunteer

The center is home to the Whale Watching Spoken Here   volunteer program, which sponsors the winter and spring break Whale Watching Weeks.

Where is Cannon Beach?

Cannon Beach is a charming beach town located in the Pacific Northwest, along the northern Oregon coast . Just about 80 miles (1.5 hours) west of Portland, this idyllic seaside getaway is located between the dramatic cliffs of the Oregon Coast Range and the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean.

With its iconic Haystack Rock towering over the shoreline and its vibrant arts scene, Cannon Beach offers both natural beauty and coastal charm, making it a must-visit destination for anyone visiting the  Portland  and Northern Oregon Coast areas.

15 Best Things to Do in Cannon Beach, Oregon

1. admire the tremendous haystack rock.

haystack rock, cannon beach

Haystack Rock is the undeniable icon of Cannon Beach, standing 235 feet tall and commanding attention from any vantage point along the shore. This massive sea stack is more than just a beautiful backdrop for beach photos—it’s also home to a diverse array of wildlife.

Designated as a protected marine sanctuary, Haystack Rock is a nesting site for puffins, seabirds, and other marine life, making it a must-visit for nature enthusiasts. Whether you’re taking in the view from the beach or getting up close during low tide, this natural wonder is an essential part of any Cannon Beach itinerary.

Each year from April to early July, Haystack Rock becomes the seasonal home of Tufted Puffins. These striking birds, with their sleek black feathers, vivid orange beaks, and bright facial plumage, can be seen perched on the towering rock.

During puffin season, visitors to Cannon Beach can witness these fascinating birds as they dive into the ocean to catch fish for their young, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled as you approach Haystack Rock.

2. Explore the Tide Pools at Cannon Beach

At low tide, the area surrounding Haystack Rock reveals a hidden world of vibrant tide pools teeming with marine life. Wander through these shallow pools to discover starfish, anemones, crabs, and other fascinating creatures.

It’s a great opportunity for hands-on exploration, especially for families with curious kids.

The tide pools are a protected area, so remember to tread lightly and avoid disturbing the delicate ecosystems. Local volunteers often offer interpretive programs, making it both an educational and fun experience.

Before departing for the coast, you can check the  Cannon Beach tide charts  to make your visit co-inside with low tide.

3. Experience the Craft Beer Scene

exterior of pelican brewing cannon beach

Oregon is famous for its craft beer, and Cannon Beach is no exception. After a day of exploring, unwind with a pint at  Pelican Brewing Company . Located just steps from the beach, this popular spot offers a variety of craft beers brewed on-site, with a focus on local ingredients and innovative flavors.

Pair your beer with a plate of fresh seafood or a gourmet burger for the perfect post-adventure meal.

Another great place is  Public Coast Brewing Co. , where you can enjoy a laid-back atmosphere, rotating taps of creative brews, and delicious, locally sourced pub fare. We also loved  Seaside Brewing Company  which we checked out on our last visit.

4. Have a Beach Campfire

There’s nothing quite like ending a day at Cannon Beach with a cozy campfire on the sand- it’s one of our favorite things to do in Cannon Beach. Gather around the warmth of the flames with friends or family, roast marshmallows, and enjoy the sound of the waves crashing nearby.

While you soak in the ambiance, you might even catch one of the stunning sunsets Cannon Beach is known for.

Seven beaches on the Oregon Coast allow beach bonfires and Cannon Beach is one of those. Just be sure to follow local guidelines: fires must be below the high tide line, and only natural firewood is permitted. It’s a quintessential Oregon coast experience that will leave you with lasting memories.

5. Discover Cannon Beach’s Art Galleries

Cannon Beach is often referred to as one of America’s top art towns, and for good reason. The town is home to numerous art galleries that showcase everything from contemporary paintings and sculptures to exquisite glasswork and photography.

The Bronze Coast Gallery  and  DragonFire Gallery  are just a couple of the must-visit spots, where you can view and purchase pieces from both local and nationally renowned artists.

If you’re visiting in May, the annual Spring Unveiling Arts Festival offers an even deeper dive into the local art scene, with special exhibits, artist demonstrations, and receptions.

The park features several hiking trails that wind through lush coastal forests, offering panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, Tillamook Rock Lighthouse, and the rugged coastline.

The  2.5-mile Clatsop Loop Trail  is one of our favorites for its combination of forest scenery and ocean vistas yet it’s short and easy. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some wildlife, such as elk or a bald eagle. Don’t forget to bring your camera—Ecola’s views are truly postcard-perfect.

8. Go Surfing or Give it a Try

The Pacific Ocean’s powerful waves make Cannon Beach a great spot for surfing, whether you’re a seasoned pro or a beginner looking to catch your first wave. Surf shops like  Cleanline Surf  offer rentals, lessons, and all the gear you’ll need to get out on the water.

If you’re new to the sport, consider taking a lesson from a local instructor who can teach you the basics and help you get comfortable in the waves.

Even if surfing isn’t your thing, watching the surfers ride the waves against the backdrop of Haystack Rock is a spectacle in itself.

Understanding Functional Wellness: The Ultimate Guide

Whale Watching in Depoe Bay. Best in Oregon

Whale watching report:.

Really good whale watching. around the area now especially since all of the kelp beds seem to be growing. They are right out in front of the harbor and another bed is about one mile or so to the north. Some will tell you that they find the food they are looking for is found in those kelp beds

Depoe Bay is the Whale Watching Capital and Dockside Charters offers Premier Whale Watching Excursions.

Depoe Bay Whale Watching

Oregon Coast Whale Watching Tours!

Dockside Charters runs whale watching excursions on a daily basis during our whale watching season. The season typically goes from mid-December through October. Our whale watching season actually is two part: migration and residential. The migratory season begins in December and usually extends until mid May. Mid to late May is when our “resident” whales begin to arrive. Our resident whales are a group of roughly 20 whales that, though they do migrate don’t go all the way to the Bering Sea but rather feed during the summer season within just a few miles of Depoe Bay and stay in the area until late October. The same whales return year after year and we are able to identify returning whales by their individual markings and the skippers even have them named.

Pacific Gray Whales have the longest migration of any animal on earth going from the Bering Sea to the Baja Peninsula and even into the Sea of Cortez. Their migration allows calves to be born in the warm waters of the Baja lagoons, that is vital to the survival of the newborns because they have no insulating blubber layer at birth. As the new calves and their mothers slowly migrate North the calves gain about nine to ten pounds per day. What makes that even more remarkable is the fact that the cows (mother gray whales) feed very little if at all during the migration. This is often quite evident by the physical appearance of the cows when they reach Depoe Bay, they are literally racks of skin and bones, having used their fat reserves to support the calves during migration.

After they arrive here feeding is the priority. Pacific Gray Whales are baleen feeders, they filter food they need from the water by straining it through their baleen plates. Organisms they feed on are quite small, one of the whales most important food sources are Mysid Shrimp. Mysid Shrimp live in and around kelp forests and never get more than about a half inch in length. They resemble mosquito larva more than shrimp and the whales will consume up to 2000 pounds of them a day. At other times they will feed on copepods they filter by taking mouthfuls of muck from the bottom or even skim feed on schools of very small fish.

Whale Watching Depoe Bay

Humpback and Blues whales are also seen occasionally though not as frequently as Gray Whales. We are fortunate here in Depoe Bay to have whales nearby for us to see for most of the year.

At Dockside Charters we run our Whale Watching excursions from safe comfortable 50 foot Delta Charter boats. They are Coast Guard Certified and have everything required for your safety and piece of mind. They have all the amenities: comfortable heated cabins, rest rooms, indoor seating, seating out on deck. You are able to walk all the way around the boats and are elevated above the water for excellent whale sightings. Our captains have decades of experience and a wealth of knowledge they share during the excursions making them interpretive tours. Our boats have access doors to walk on and off with ease or provide wheel chair access. We can accommodate large groups.

Reservations are recommended for our whale watching tours, to make yours call 541-765-2545

Whale watching excursions seven days a week, subject to marine conditions.

Archived Whale Watching Reports:

After the fog went away which was the exact time that our whale watching tours were starting for the day. They were pretty easy to find also without the fog as they were right out front of the harbor entrance about a half mile offshore. Great for all of Dockside\'s passengers.

Its been good whale watching here lately maybe that because the kelp beds are growing that means good food for the whales.

After about close to a week with poor whale sightings a lot of the whales have returned and they have been easy to find and many just minutes away from the harbor on our boats.

AFTER ONE DAY LATE LAST WEEK WE HAVE HAD EXCELLENT WHALE WATCHING TRIPS WITH MULTIPLE WHALES IN THE AREA AND THEY ARE VERY CLOSE BY FEEDING IN THE EXPANDING KELP BEDS NOW IN THE AREA. IT IS A GREAT TIME TO. VISIT THE COAST AND GO OUT WITH DOCKSIDE AND SEE THE FEEDING GRAY WHALES.

A tough day on the whale front as we did see a whale on one of the trips but there was so much fog close to shore that finding the whales on most trips today was very difficult. Tomorrow is another day and hopefully better.

Really good whale watching as for the first time in a week or two we have multiple whales in the area. The whale watch boats were all watching these whales in three different spots we were told with an average of about 1/2 mile from one group to the other.

Today\'s whale report saw the same thing we have been seeing for over a week now with two whales in the area. Heard a report today that there were three up around the Lincoln City area and that the lack of kelp beds in the area might be the issue. The whales are not going to frequent anyplace where there is no food for them and the kelp beds are really important to their eating habits. Last season the Depoe Bay Area was the kelp bed capitol of the worlds oceans but this season not as much. However we are seeing some kelp beds beginning to form in the area like happens in most summers.

Whale watching was good this morning but as of the last few days not a whole lot of them in our area right now. I think they were watching two today and the day before so hopefully there number will increase in not so many days.

Just like yesterday we had really terrific whale watching trips today as up to around mid-afternoon the sighting of the feeding Gray whales was excellent on the vessels reporting. They were putting on good shows for the folks onboard.

Unlike yesterday when we had a windy day today was much better and we had really good whale sightings on all of our trips so far this afternoon.

Not sure any of the boats saw any of the whales on our trips today as late in the morning into the afternoon the winds got ahold of the water which made it a bit difficult to see the spouts and hunt down the Gray whales. Tomorrow is another day.

We are seeing whales today as a smaller variety is out there feeding in the beds near the coastline and the rocks. Good sightings for quite a while now so a good time to come down and see the Gray whales.

Another really good day of whale watching on Wednesday with the whales moving a little north of town and all of the Dockside WW boats saw them on every trip.. Word was there were a few up there today and put on a great show for the folks.

Our whale watching boats today (Tuesday) had really good spotting of the Gray whales as all of them saw whales on all of the afternoon trips.

Good whale watching on this Thursday afternoon as all of our boats out there are seeing the whales and they reported they are putting on good shows for the folks.

NOI whale watching this afternoon as the Depoe Bay bar roughed up to much to run trips out there today. Keep in touch with our office as things will improve.

Good whale watching today all day with all of our boats seeing whales on every trip. Call our office and when making your reservations ask about what the ocean conditions are suppose to be and they will give you the best days to come down and see the Gray whales.

Not a whole bunch of information but we did see whales on our whale watch trips today.

Good whale watching the past few days as the information off the boats was that they are in shallow water & feeding which is a good sign that some of the seasonal whales we have most of the spring and summer into the fall are here.

Lots of whales all weekend long out in front of Depoe Bay. With the good weather lots of excellent opportunities to see the last part of the northerly migration and the continued arrival of our resident whales. Sounds like good weather for the next few days.

Had a few whale watch trips out this afternoon and we saw whales on all of the trips. The whales are easier to find as well as they are coming in closer to shore where all of the feed is and were chowing down.

We had several cruises this afternoon some were 1-hr cruises and one 2-hr cruise and we saw whales on both of the cruises. The whales are here with some indications that a few of the resident whales are beginning to show up. The resident whales are the ones that migrate just like the others but many of them stop here in the Depoe Bay area and spend the entire summer into the fall with us here. Should be another great year of whale watching.

We had excellent whale watch reports all day yesterday (Friday) and today was just as good. We had a really quick hitting rain storm this afternoon which we were told limited the visibility. Just like the Oregon Coast....beautiful sunny day and a few minutes later RAIN .

Whale watching was really good today onboard the Tacklebuster as they found whales south of the city in pretty close to the shoreline. The captain stated that it looked like one of the resident whales that was with us all summer last year the one that some might remember that had the three hash marks on its back dorsal area.

No whale watching again today as this rough weather we have been having fooled us and stayed around for another day. Winds will be down tomorrow and things look much better for tomorrow.

No whale watching today as the ocean weather turned a little nautical for any afternoon whale watching adventures to get out there. We will be trying again tomorrow.

Excellent whale watching trips today on all of our boats out there this afternoon and saw Gray whales on all of the trips and also saw Humpback whales as well. Looks like it\'s gonna be a good whale watch year.

It was a little too rough to go out yesterday but there were a bunch of whales spotted from shore out about whistle buoy depth...about a mile. Good weather today and tomorrow so come on down and see the Gray whale migration.

The ocean weather looks to be better as we see it now for the upcoming weekend into the following week. Swells will be down as well as the wind but there will possibly be a few rain drops in the area. Call our office for more information.

Whale sightings on the afternoon whale watch trips has been really good and it looks like today and tomorrow are really good weather days with Wednesday looking right now a little iffy.
