Porto Alegre Mal Assombrada

porto alegre mal assombrada

Todas as edições lotadas.

porto alegre mal assombrada

porto alegre mal assombrada

The Killers to Perform 'Hot Fuss' in Full at First-Ever Hometown Las Vegas Residency: 'It's Good to Be Home'

The legendary alt-rock band will play a string of dates at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in summer 2024 in honor of the 20th anniversary of their debut album

After all these things that The Killers have done, they’re coming home.

The iconic alternative rock band announced they’re set to play their first-ever residency in their hometown of Las Vegas on Tuesday. They’ll be taking to the stage in Sin City — where they famously came up in the early 2000s and has remained a source of inspiration in their music ever since — in order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their hit debut album Hot Fuss.

Not only will the upcoming shows that are scheduled for August honor the milestone anniversary, the Grammy-nominated group plans to perform the beloved record, featuring songs like “Mr. Brightside,” “Somebody Told Me” and “All These Things That I’ve Done,” from front to back for the first time.

The group featuring vocalist Brandon Flowers, guitarist Dave Keuning, bassist Mark Stoermer and drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. will play a total of eight dates at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace from Aug. 14 to Aug 30.

The “Human” band announced the residency to fans on Instagram by sharing a teaser. The clip featured footage of the rockers out on the road today, as well as nostalgic shots of them at the start of their career when Hot Fuss dropped.

“It’s good to be home,” The Killers wrote in the caption. “Join the 4 of us for 8 shows at The Colosseum in Caesars Palace in August as we celebrate 20 years of Hot Fuss . Tickets go on sale starting Jan. 27.”

The hitmakers’ new wave-influenced debut album instantly launched them into success upon its release in June 2004. Not only did the album receive a Grammy nomination for best rock album, three of its singles (“All These Things That I've Done,” “Mr. Brightside” and “Somebody Told Me”) received nominations, as well.

Still today, the cult-loved record is considered one of the best debuts of all time.

The Killers’ residency comes on the heels of the release of their greatest hits album, Rebel Diamonds , and will follow a handful of festival headlining dates .

Tickets for The Killers’ Las Vegas residency go on sale on Saturday at 10 a.m. PT at https://www.ticketmaster.com/TheKillersVegas .

The Killers are an American post-punk alternative rock band formed in Las Vegas, US, in 2001 by members Brandon Flowers and Dave Keuning, who found each other through a newspaper ad.

Since day one The Killers have had a sound, which cannot be confined or compared to those around them. Their rock music is intense yet has a pop-inspired theatricality, which borrows as much from bands like Oasis and The Smiths as it does from artists such as David Bowie.

The band’s first shows in Las Vegas found a loyal audience, but stuck out like a sore thumb from the metal and rap acts flooding the local scene. Keeping to this mentality, The Killers found their initial successes not within their home country of the United States but within the United Kingdom, where the song “Mr. Brightside” premiered on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show and consequently found the band a huge following.

Albums “Hot Fuss”, “Sam's Town”, “Day & Age” and “Battle Born” have all reached number one in the UK charts shortly after their release. In the United States, The Killers’ debut album “Hot Fuss” went triple platinum with the single “Mr. Brightside” hitting number 10 in the US charts.

The band’s musical talent has been recognized with seven Grammy Award nominations, as well as multiple Brit Awards and NME Awards for their various albums and singles such as “Human” and “When We Were Young”. Fans of the band include megastars such as Jay-Z, who described the band’s MO as taking “what's old and mak[ing] it sound new again."

As their popularity continues to grow, The Killers have extended their worldwide tours to include countries such as Russia and China along with spots all over Europe and North America. Along with an ever-growing list of countries to tour, the venues the band plays to are also expanding at an incredible rate. In recent years The Killers have found themselves playing to insane audiences at Madison Square Gardens, US; Wembley Stadium, UK; and The Royal Albert Hall, UK.

Live reviews

If you've never seen The Killers live, you should probably kick yourself. As a long-time fan, but someone who hadn't seen them in concert until their latest studio effort, I still find myself kicking myself for never having gone to see them.

The energy when they're on stage is infectious. They feed off each other and also the crowd, and the crowd feeds off of them - always seeming to leave both sides hungry for more. I guess that's what a great live band does.

For the show at Borgata's new Festival Park venue, the first surprise was the return of the K as part of the keyboard stand. This iconic throwback to the Day and Age era kinda had me hoping this wouldn't be more or less the same Battle Born tour set list that they've been doing for nearly three years. At 20 songs long, it was a full set, with a few surprises, but was largely unchanged from the last time I saw them. Of course, this is a band that has four albums under their belts, and because they don't want to disappoint more casual fans (as in non-Victims), they don't want to leave out any of their hits.

Opening with Mr. Brightside, lights still on, the smile on Brandon Flowers' face was apparent that he has missed his onstage brothers. The smile didn't fade as they drove on into Spaceman, and after introducing the band as well as Ted "Named after the great Ted Williams" Sablay and Jake "The Snake" Blanton, they carried on to The Way It Was. Smile Like You Mean It led into Bling, followed by Human. A return to their first album was introduced by a chills-inducing heavy bass opening as Somebody Told Me reminded everyone why they became as big as they are.

A cover of CCR's Bad Moon Rising led into a surprise of their 2012 album Battle Born as they played the life out of The Rising Tide - a nice surprise. After Shot at the Night, For Reasons Unknown, and From Here On Out, things slowed down for Dustland Fairytale and another surprise, Be Still. Read My Mind and Runaways led into a bittersweet All These Things I've Done. Why bittersweet? When All These Things comes on, fans know it's the last of their main set.

The last surprise of the night came with the first of their encores as they rolled into Uncle Jonny. We know that The Killers (almost) always include their very first album opener: Jenny Was a Friend of Mine - They don't come all the way from Las Vegas and not play Jenny. When You Were Young was the show's closer.

With the news report over, here's the editorial portion of the review.

This band never disappoints - even in the rare instance that they're off their game, they're still on their game. For the show in Atlantic City at Borgata Festival Park they were undoubtedly on their game. Seeing them on stage together, it was as though it was where they wanted to be. The show in AC, before a crowd of 4500, was a warmup for the 70,000 strong crowd at Firefly. Of the 4500 people leaving Festival Park, I don't think one of them was disappointed. I even caught one of the guys working security singing along to a few of their older hits.

While I would have loved to have seen some of the lesser-played songs instead of the set they played, it's only because I've seen them do these songs so often, and had never seen them perform prior to 2012 (huge mistake on my part). The Killers want people to leave their shows with a sense of satisfaction, so, playing their most popular songs is a given. Still, I would just love to hear Sam's Town at least one more time, and quite honestly, I wish they'd drop the cover song they do (for the last 6 shows I've seen, they have always done Bad Moon Rising). With an arsenal of 4 full albums, they certainly have enough original material to play a full set without tossing in a cover version. (At least it's not Shadowplay!)

Nothing would ever be able to stop me from making the effort to see this band perform. The 22 hour round-trip to the Jersey Shore was well worth it; they never disappoint. Ever. If I could, I'd be at a Killers show every night for the rest of my life.

Yes, a Killers show is one of my personal Sam's Towns - if you don't know what that means, do yourself a favor, and while waiting for their next tour, check out their live DVD - Live From the Royal Albert Hall. You'll see why Victims, myself included, will travel all kinds of distances to see these guys perform.

The Killers played the first night of Lollapalooza last year, and they made it a night I'll never forget. From the stage lighting to visual effects on the screens, The Killers put on a show that captivated the thousands of people that came out to watch them. The band erupted with "Mr. Brightside," which sent the audience into a state of excitement. Everyone started dancing/jumping/singing to the music. There was a lot of jostling around, and I kept getting pushed forward by people from behind trying to get closer to the stage. I remember while I was belting out the lyrics to "Human," someone grabbed my arm and started dancing with me. The audience was so friendly, and looking around, many people had huge smiles on their faces that shone against the colorful stage lights. The Killers have been around for quite some time, and anyone can see that they are clearly at ease playing in front of thousands of people. The lead singer, Brandon Flowers, sang even better live compared to the audio recordings. He didn't even take a water break or anything; he just kept going and going, and throughout the entire performance, his energy stayed sky high (his collared shirt was unbuttoned and drenched with sweat by the end if the night). He introduced the rest of the band and was very interactive with the crowd, reaching out to touch outstretched hands. The concert had a fun, friendly vibe to it, and I was surrounded by people who were all so happy to be there. That concert was the first time I experienced a night show outdoors, let alone in the heart of downtown Chicago. Looking up around me, the skyscrapers we're lit up and the stage lights bounced off of them. It was such a beautiful sight. Jamming out to awesome music under the city lights was the perfect way to end my first night at Lolla.

This was, so far, the best concert for The Killers that I've ever seen (& I've seen them 3 times already). The acoustics for the Staples Center wasn't the absolute best, but it didn't matter when the whole stadium was singing at the top of their lungs along with the band. First of all, since this was the Wonderful Wonderful Tour, I thought the band would play mostly songs from the new album, but to my surprise, they performed a great mix of songs from their entire discography. What surprised me the most was that The Killers played a ton more songs from their Hot Fuss album than they ever had before. They even dug deep to perform such notable songs like "Andy, You're A Star" & "Smile Like You Mean It". A beautifully sweet touch was when the band performed a new, sort of spur-of-the-moment, song about Los Angeles...a song they had written on the road just before their L.A. leg of the tour. One of the major highlights of the entire concert was when the band had invited a young teenage fan up onto the stage to play the drums on the song "For Reasons Unknown". Apparently this has become an ongoing tradition of the band, to invite fans up on the stage to perform with them. This was such a touching, yet totally bad-ass moment, & I hope The Killers keep on doing this at every concert tour from now on. By the end of the concert, my friends & I had lost our voices from singing & screaming so loudly, but it was one thousand percent worth it. The Killers proved with their electrifying & humorous stage presence, along with their amazing voices & talent, that they will forever hold the spot of being my all-time favorite band.

The killers in vancouver, how can i even but this into words that people will comprehend? For me, the killers are my favorite band and Brandon Flowers is a HUGE inspiration in my life. His style of writing impacts me in a huge way. Also, for me, the killers music helped me a lot with personal problems that had hit me pretty hard in my life. I listen to their music when i'm happy, sad, healthy or sick, and for me, seeing this concert was in a way, life saving. And being such a huge fan, i had high hopes for this show and they did not at all disapoint. I went to this show with one of my closest friends, who is also a huge killers fan. The show began with 'Wonderful Wonderful' (as you may have assumed) and soon after they jumped right into 'The Man'. The setlist was incredible. I honestly couldn't say that i was disappointed with any of the songs they chose to play. I wish they would have done 'Bones' or 'Under the Gun' but i had low hopes when it came to those two. The stage presents was incredible. I couldn't take my eyes off of Brandon. He is just one of those people who can really own a stage and engage a crowd. And coming from an aspiring guitarist, i would normally be watching the guitarist almost out of habit; but with the exception of guitar solos, I was watching Brandon. This is a show I would heavily recommend going to. For me, it was the greatest experience of my life. The only negative of the show is figuring out how you're going to top it.

I hadn't listened to the Killers in several years and was invited by a friend to go see them in concert. I'd forgotten how good they were! Their show was full of energy and the evening was nothing short of spectacular. It seemed like every inch of the stage was covered with lights, and the show was filled with special effects some including fireworks. A Killers concert is like a massive stadium type of show, full of power and special effects.

The band played all their hit songs and even included some cover songs that really were done well. One of the really good covers they played was the Smiths “There is a Light that Never goes out”. The crowd was very energized and the show started out at full force when they opened with one of their better know songs “When You were Young”. The band finished with several encores including some of their first hits, I guess the show ended up lasting about 90-95 minutes.

The venue was large but it was pretty full. The crowd did get a little out of control at some points during the show, but the stadium was large enough that they had good security and you could just move away from people who were getting carried away. The band is getting older but they sounded great. It is good to see them back in rock and roll form.

The Killers delivered a high energy polished show. Brandon was in great voice, drummer was fantastic. A great rock show for sure.

The venue, however... just atrocious. Place Bell in Laval is a new arena for 10K attendance, but it has massive logistical & design failures. 1) crowds waited 25-60 minutes to enter the building ... outside in -35C! ... due to an inadequate entry plan. Thousands of concertgoers were invited to show up between 7-8 pm, to be greeted by 4 open doors and 6 security stations. 2) parking congestion nightmares & traffic woes before and after the show 3) electricity on stage went out 3 times during the show 4) other concert-goers reported no drinking fountains, toilet paper, limited mobility access...

SUMMARY: Go See the Killers, not at Place Bell in Laval.

The Killers, as always, were amazing beyond mere words. I've seen them in concert before, but somehow this particular concert at Outside Lands 2014 was especially memorable. From singing Credence Clearwater Revival & Otis Redding covers, to performing all their greatest hits (and then some). I was completely pumped up from beginning to end. As per their usual Las Vegas-ian flare, the light show almost stole the spotlight from Brandon Flowers & his famous lightning bolt keyboard, but no one can captivate & amp up an audience like Mr B Flowers. I think I might have been one of the loudest singers in my section of the crowd. Singing along to all the "Direct Hits" is always the best part of the concert!

It was my first time seeing The Killers after a number of years waiting to see them play live. I have never had an experience quite like this one. They are a truly special band to see play live, the energy of the crowd is infectious, and you are left wanting more. Brandon Flowers, man, I don't know how he does it. Plays show after show after show and still sounds incredible. The additions to the band were awesome and Ronnie is a beast (in the best way.) My favorite thing about their show was actually the stage design. It was so beautiful and colorful and set the tone perfectly for each song. You will have a BLAST at their show, whether you're a hardcore fan or not. Can't wait to see them again! :-)

I actually saw the show at Barclays on Tuesday the 8th. Let me start by saying I see a lot of concerts every year and was only familiar with the better known of The Killers songs. Having said that - they were EXCELLENT! Flowers is a magnificent front man with a set of pipes to carry stadiums. The band is flawless and so rock and roll. I will judge a band by how much they can hook me with a song I’ve never heard before . From the opening with Wonderful Wonderful and The Man thru The Calling start to the encore I was dazzled. I downloaded everything and I’m now a confirmed fan. I will see them again ASAP. One of the best live I have seen -ever. And I’m no spring chicken.

It was amazing!!! From the moment they went on stage to the very last second it was just so much positive energy coming from the band. The crowd was bad, but that isn’t The Killers’ fault! They did the absolute most and it paid off. Brandon hit those high notes despite his flu, Ronnie was legendary on the drums, Ted was amazing, the choir was amazing, et cetera et cetera. It’s a shame (especially for the people that DID know all their songs) that the crowd bothered them so much that they didn’t play Mr. Brightside, but again, the band isn’t to blame.

These Las Vegas legends know how to give a great performance!

The Killers put on jubilant showcase at First Avenue

July 14, 2023

If you walk into a karaoke dive bar, fraternity party, Hot Topic store, sporting event, or wedding reception dance floor, it's likely you’ll hear “Mr. Brightside,” the megahit from the Killers’ 2004 debut, Hot Fuss . A sing-along erupts whenever a band covers the song at a show, or when the line “Coming out of my cage / And I’ve been doing just fine” comes over the speakers at a social gathering. So imagine the atmosphere when the Killers’ frontman Brandon Flowers belted those words on First Avenue’s stage on Thursday night.

The Las Vegas band wrapped up a U.S. arena tour last October, including a St. Paul stop at the Xcel Energy Center, with venues with capacities up to 40,000. This time in the Twin Cities, the crowd was a bit smaller: just 1,500 people packed into the sold-out Mainroom.

First Avenue announced The Killers’ performance about one week before the show. Tickets came with tight restrictions: “Any attempts to exceed the ticket limit of 4 tickets per customer or household, or to game the system in any way, will result in cancellation of orders without notice.” Tickets were non-transferable on any ticket purchasing platform. Every person in the room raced to grab a ticket for the rare opportunity to see the alt-rock band in this intimate space.

The band didn’t need an opener for people to show up early. Before doors opened, queues passed the The Killers’ star on First Avenue’s exterior wall and extended down the block on both sides. Inside, the floor was filled from the stage to the back bar an hour before the show began. Some fans donned T-shirts from the Killers’ past tours, and the dress code seemed to be band tees of artists who got their starts at least a few decades ago, like David Bowie, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, AC/DC, Pearl Jam, Metallica, and Blink-182.

The Killers opened with “Sam’s Town,” a nod to their hometown from their sophomore record Sam’s Town, then continued with a nod to Minneapolis by covering Prince’s “I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man.”

The evening could be summarized by one word: jubilant. The 90-minute show featured four rounds of confetti bursting from cannons and floating down into the hands of thrilled fans. Hands swayed for “This Is Your Life” from 2008’s Day & Age, and a woman a few feet from the stage grinned and shook her head in awe for the euphoric, thumping anthem of “Humans.” The music the Killers play live is unapologetically optimistic; it’s a feel-good show.

Not skipping any of the biggest radio-friendly hits, the Killers seemed to perform for the purpose of indulging fans, not to spotlight their most recent albums. They released Imploding the Mirage in 2020, and followed with the more subdued and self-reflective Pressure Machine in 2021. The set only featured two tracks from Pressure Machine, which Flowers called a “change of pace record” that was made to be played in a space the size of the Mainroom. During “Runaway Horses,” Flowers stood at the mic stand with a hand over heart while two background singers provided soft, harmonious ornamentation. Multi-instrumentalist Dave Keuning pulled out a harmonica to embellish the country-pop track “Quiet Town.”

Flowers claimed he doesn’t talk much during shows, especially not before “When You Were Young.” But for some reason, he felt compelled to share the song’s background: The success of their first album took them by surprise. After traveling to England, the band came back and wanted to capture upbringing and familial dynamics for the sophomore release of Sam’s Town. “When You Were Young,” which includes the lyrics — “ You sit there in your heartache / Waiting on some beautiful boy to / To save you from your old ways ” —  finally hit what they had been searching for. Flowers hoped he wasn’t “killing the momentum of the concert,” but the brief speech made him seem more human — less of a famous person putting on a face for over an hour.

Flowers is a showman. His eyes burst with enthusiasm, and the stage didn’t appear large enough to contain his energy. It was easy to picture the vocalist running across a stage, but with a hefty gear set up, he skirted around bandmates and equipment, and at times, seemed to not know where to step next.

The Killers on stage

It was a sized-down show — Flowers told The Current’s Ayisha Jaffer that playing at a venue this size is the equivalent of five rehearsals ahead of their Target Field show on Friday — but audio levels remained high. Visceral sound waves could be felt on every inch of the body. Arm hair stood up. Chests vibrated. Esophagi pulsated. Earplugs couldn’t keep ear canals from buzzing.

The only time Flowers’ vocals didn’t 100% match songs’ recorded versions was “All These Things That I’ve Done.” Luckily, it was also the song with the most audience participation; people sang “I got a soul, but I’m not a soldier” over and over in tune.

The audience members taking overhead selfies were mostly Millennial and Gen-X folk and likely feeling nostalgic when hearing songs that blew up in the aughts. But the 20-somethings may have experienced fauxstalgia — the feeling of yearning for a time in the past, despite not being old enough to have experienced it.

At one point, it appeared the show might end on an anticlimactic note. For the encore closer, Flowers began a monotone, slightly apathetic “Mr. Brightside” remix with the only instrumentals coming from drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. A night without the gratification of the peppy synth-handled tale of jealousy and betrayal felt disappointing and elicited the thoughts, “This must be a joke?” and “Is this really it?” But after two choruses, Flowers smiled, confirming it was a tease. He began again as the band jumped into the unequivocal guitar chords.

Referring to the band’s place on the Friday night bill at Target Field for TC Summer Fest, Flowers said, “See you tomorrow,” before exiting the stage.

According to First Avenue, “Attempts to exceed the ticket limit of four tickets per customer or household, or to game the system in any way, will result in cancellation of orders without notice.”

The Killers emerged in 2004 with the album “Hot Fuss,” a worldwide hit that topped seven million in sales. In March 2020, the band announced a massive worldwide tour just days before the pandemic-related lockdown. They canceled the tour dates, but did release their sixth album, “Imploding the Mirage,” that August. They went on to issue another record, “Pressure Machine,” in 2021 and returned to the road the following year. They drew more than 10,000 fans to St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center that September.

The Killers made their local live debut in April 2004 when they played First Avenue’s small room, 7th Street Entry. In the years since, they’ve returned to play the late Quest, Roy Wilkins Auditorium, Northrop Auditorium and Xcel Energy Center.

The group will play Target Field on July 14 as part of the new TC Summer Fest , a festival-style concert series, staged by the Minnesota Twins and a promotion company. Imagine Dragons headline July 15. Tickets are available via twins.com/tcsummerfest .

Travis Tap Chris Martin and Brandon Flowers for Nostalgic Single ‘Raze the Bar’

  • By Emily Zemler

Emily Zemler

Travis has released a new single, “Raze the Bar,” featuring Coldplay ‘s Chris Martin and the Killers ‘ Brandon Flowers . The song recounts a bittersweet story about the closure of Black and White bar, a much-loved New York haunt for the band, recounting a fictional last night there before it closed.

“There was a great bar in New York City,” Fran Healy said in a statement. “It didn’t have a name but everyone called it Black and White on account of the black and white striped awning that hung over the entrance. They had poetry nights, great DJs, open mic nights. If you played a show at Irving Plaza or Webster Hall, chances are you ended up at Black and White ’til the wee small hours. One of the owners, Johnny T, looked after so many artists and bands over the years. If that bar could talk, what a story it would tell.”

“Raze the Bar” comes off Travis’ forthcoming LP, L.A. Times , which was produced by Tony Hoffer. It’s the second track to emerge from the album, out July 12 via BMG.

'Word Salad': Andrew Huberman's Cannabis Claims Slammed by Experts

Brian wilson placed in conservatorship as daughters win consultation rights, megan thee stallion strikes again with new single 'boa', see taylor swift perform 'fortnight,' 'but daddy i love him' at the eras tour in paris.

Travis hit the road in support of the album this summer. The band will perform with the Killers across their 16-date U.K. arena tour through June and July, and will return to Europe in August and September for their first headlining tour across the continent since 2016. More U.K. tour dates will be announced soon.

Healy spoke to NME about the tour with the Killers, noting, “We’ve been friends for years and years now and Ronnie [Vannucci Jr.] and Brandon are the sweetest guys. It’s nice to be a support band again too. I love being a support band. It reminds me of when we supported Oasis. We went on every single night to blow them off the stage, which is what a good support band should be doing. You go on, the other band watch you from the wings going, ‘Fuck’. And then they come on and do a better show because of it.”

The Killers’ Mr Brightside becomes biggest song to never reach UK No 1

Band overtake Oasis’s Wonderwall and celebrate how the much-chanted chart staple ‘has been completely embraced by the British public’

The Killers’ Mr Brightside, already the longest-running Top 100 hit in UK chart history, has been named the biggest single not to reach UK No 1.

Currently in its 408th week in the chart at No 71 and still being streamed by the British public 1.8m times a week, Mr Brightside – which has become a much-chanted staple at boozy weddings, karaoke nights and cheesy club nights – has overtaken Oasis’s Wonderwall as the most successful single not to reach No 1, with 5.57m chart sales (including 1.066m actual sales and 530,340,000 streams).

Mr Brightside was first released in 2003 in a run of 500 singles by British indie label Lizard King. The band had their breakthrough the following year with UK No 3 hit Somebody Told Me, and the re-released Mr Brightside reached No 10. It has never reached any higher than that, but buoyed by the gradual shift to streaming, it has barely been out of the charts since mid-2020.

The band said: “This award means a lot to us, Mr Brightside has been completely embraced by the British public and we can’t wait to celebrate with you all on the road.”

Overtaking Wonderwall is a poignant moment, given that Oasis were the central inspiration for Mr Brightside. “I wanted to write an answer to Don’t Look Back in Anger, which is a strange aspiration for a 20-year-old,” frontman Brandon Flowers told the Guardian in 2019 .

Mr Brightside has a lovesick Flowers imagining a lover going to bed with another man, and trying to put a brave face on it: the optimist of the title line. It was written after a breakup with the woman Flowers had seen an Oasis gig with. “The wound was raw,” he said, “so it was cathartic for me. There was still something really romantic about it: it was before phones. I actually put pen to paper and we were able to turn that into something universal. To make betrayal sound so good was just a lucky thing that I stumbled upon.”

Following the Killers and Oasis in the ranking of the most successful non-No 1s is John Legend, whose open-hearted piano ballad All of Me is another wedding staple – though more for walking down the aisle than slipping over on the dancefloor.

Hozier’s Take Me to Church and the Pogues’ Fairytale of New York round out the top five, followed by Ed Sheeran’s Castle on the Hill, Vance Joy’s Riptide (another song that only reached No 10), Bastille’s Pompeii, Passenger’s Let Her Go and George Ezra’s Budapest.

The Killers are gearing up to tour their latest greatest hits collection, Rebel Diamonds, around the UK from 18 June.

Best Night Ever!

It was so great! Barely any parking @Emo’s to speak of so just plan on taking an Uber anyway. Every single person there was having the best night because they all had to be previous fans of the band or “victims” (or have a really nice friend) so we all sang , clapped, jumped and rocked on to our favorite band…The Killers! It was a blast.

Intimate show

The Killers at Emos was the most awesome show I’ve ever seen. They rocked that venue like it was a stadium show. It’s an experience I will remember as long as I live! Most amazing band live.

One of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had at a concert!!!!

We left after. 4 or 5 songs. Extremely loud! Sound people screwed up a good concert.

It was a life long dream of mine to see them and they did not disappoint!!!!! Took my step son and we had the time of our lives!!!! I love this band with all my heart and soul!!!

WOW! What a Show -

This band gives its all - lead singer and the band. Crowd went crazy and knew the words to the songs. Very fun group to see.

Talk about throwing a GOOD show! Wow! Can’t wait for them to come back around this way or the Bay Area :)

The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside” Named Biggest UK Song to Never Hit No. 1, Unseats Oasis’ “Wonderwall”

T he Killers‘ 2003 single “Mr. Brightside” is already the longest-running Top 100 hit in the U.K., but now it has unseated Oasis’ “Wonderwall” as the biggest single that never hit No. 1. Currently, “Mr. Brightside” is on its 408th week on the U.K. Top 100 chart, sitting at No. 71.

“Mr. Brightside” has more than 5.57 million chart sales currently, which includes 1.066 million sales and 530,340,000 streams. According to a report from The Guardian , the song is streamed 1.8 million times per week in the U.K.

The single was rereleased in 2004 on The Killers’ debut album Hot Fuss , where it reached No. 10 on the U.K. charts. It never climbed any higher, but since then it has barely left the charts. The band released a statement after “Mr. Brightside” was crowned.

“This award means a lot to us, ‘Mr Brightside’ has been completely embraced by the British public and we can’t wait to celebrate with you all on the road,” the band said.

Additionally, surpassing Oasis with this honor is an interesting development, mostly because an Oasis track was the primary inspiration for “Mr. Brightside.” According to an interview with Brandon Flowers in The Guardian in 2019, “I wanted to write an answer to Don’t Look Back in Anger, which is a strange aspiration for a 20-year-old.”

The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside” Surpasses Oasis’ “Wonderwall” as the Biggest Hit to Never Reach No. 1 on U.K. Charts

Brandon Flowers explained the meaning behind “Mr. Brightside” in that interview as well, claiming it was about a break-up with a woman he once went to an Oasis show with. “The wound was raw,” he said, at the time, “so it was cathartic for me. There was still something really romantic about it: it was before phones. I actually put pen to paper and we were able to turn that into something universal. To make betrayal sound so good was just a lucky thing that I stumbled upon.”

The Killers are currently slated to headline multiple festivals, as well as touring their recent greatest hits album , Rebel Diamonds. They will be at the Boston Calling Festival on May 26, then at the Governor’s Ball Music Festival on June 8 in Queens, New York.

After that, they’re heading across the pond, hitting Dublin, Glasgow, London, and Manchester before heading to Spain for the Mad Cool Festival. They return to the U.S. in August to play Lollapalooza and Outside Lands, then head to their hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada for a run of shows celebrating the 20th anniversary of Hot Fuss .

Killers anthem becomes biggest-selling record that never made UK No 1

Dance floor favourite Mr Brightside spent seven years in the charts

Mr Brightside single cover

The Killers’ Mr Brightside has become the biggest-selling song in the UK top 100 charts never to have made it to the number one spot.

The anthem has usurped Wonderwall by Oasis to take the top spot, with its 5.57 million combined sales and streams also makes it the UK’s third biggest song of all time according to the Official Charts Company.

The Las Vegas band’s dancefloor favourite also surpasses sales and streams by Wham!’s festive anthem, Last Christmas .

It has now spent a total of 408 weeks, or seven years, in the UK top 100.

The closest competitor is Lewis Capaldi’s Someone You Loved, which trails behind at 234 weeks in the top 100.

Mr Brightside  has a total of 530.3 million streams – 100 paid streams or 600 free streams equal one “sale” – and has sold 1.1 million copies in the more than 20 years since its initial release.

Brandon Flowers, the Killers' lead singer, said he never gets tired of the song, which he performed at Glastonbury in 2019 where streams of the song reached a peak

Brandon Flowers, who wrote the track with bandmate Dave Keuning, said he no longer feels like he is part of the song after its monumental success.

“It’s funny. I don’t feel so much of it anymore. It just exists in the world,” Flowers said.

“It’s amazing that I had something to do with it but I almost feel a little bit removed from it because it’s so big,” he told the Official Charts Company.

The enduring track, a favourite for wedding party guests, is still being streamed 1.8 million times per week by Britons.

It shows no sign of slowing either, with last year representing the track’s biggest year of streams, with 79.97 million plays.

In 2024, Mr Brightside is accelerating further still with average combined weekly sales and streams up 23 per cent year-on-year.

Dr Stephen Graham, the head of Arts and Humanities at Goldsmiths University, believes the song’s popularity is mainly down to its lyrics and loud music being a “perfect fit” for Britain’s “boisterous” nightlife culture.

“UK nightlife culture was a perfect fit for Mr Brightside. Loud, boisterous nights out are de rigueur in that culture and uncomplicated songs that can be sung without much skill or concentration and that carry you along like a massive, joyous crowd have always been a hit here,” he said.

“Mr Brightside has all of those qualities, almost to a Platonic ideal, and so really lends itself to settings where groups of people, many of them drunk, are looking for a sonic excuse to join together in collective joy.”

He added that the lyrics also “suggest nights out, or at least the kinds of interpersonal stuff you’d be thinking about on a night out (she’s calling a cab, he’s having a smoke, my stomach is sick etc)”.

The song’s biggest week to date in the UK was July 2019, when it clocked up 17,700 chart units following the band’s headline Glastonbury set.

Mr Brightside’s biggest year of pure sales was 2012 when it was bought and downloaded 125,200 times.

Flower’s first indication of the song’s impact was ahead of their 2004 Glastonbury performance. “We played that song [and] something had obviously happened… Something shifted in the way that the audience physically responded and it set us off on this path to become the live band that we are now.”

Flowers told Spin back in 2015 that he is proud that Mr Brightside has “stood the test of time”.

“I never get bored of singing it,” he said.

Martin Talbot, the chief executive of Official Charts, commented: “The success of Mr Brightside is a triumph of extraordinary longevity, it is a song which has lived with so many of us throughout the recent decades of our lives – and, for some, an entire lifetime.

“Ed Sheeran is absolutely right to describe it as the UK’s alternative national anthem. And for this reason, among many others, it is a huge honour for us to have been able to present Brandon Flowers with one of our brand-new Top 10 Awards in tribute to its legacy and impact.

“Twenty years on from its first Official Singles Chart appearance, it is now the Top 10 hit that all other Top 10s can only aspire to be.”

Taylor Swift European tour kicks off in Paris with four shows and 42,000 spectators

Fans of US singer Taylor Swift pose with a VIP box package, a day prior to the start of the pop star's concerts at the Paris La Defense Arena as part of her The Eras Tour, on May 8, 2024.

The highest-grossing tour in history finally arrived in Europe on Thursday, May 9 as Taylor Swift kicks off her European dates with four nights in Paris. Thousands of fans were already visiting the La Defense Arena 24 hours before the show just to get their hands on the merchandise as soon as possible.

A handful of superfans camped out from Tuesday to ensure they got a prime spot in the standing section. "I didn't plan to, but I came to check it out and I saw the first tents and I panicked a little," said Chris, 30. Noah, 20, is seeing all four Paris concerts – he used 22 email addresses to get through the lottery system and secure the tickets.

US fans of US singer Taylor Swift pose with a VIP box package, a day prior to the start of the pop star's concerts at the Paris La Defense Arena as part of her The Eras Tour, in Nanterre, north-western France, on May 8, 2024.

Many accents in the crowd were American – the venue says a fifth of the audience has come from the United States. Georg'Ann Daly decided to celebrate her 23 rd birthday with the show in Paris. It meant flying from Nashville to Chicago to London and catching the Eurostar to Paris. "I've always been obsessed with Taylor Swift," she told AFP. "I went to her show in Nashville and thought I'm never doing that again because it was crazy. It's a lot of over-stimulation and I have social anxiety." "But it's my birthday and it's Paris and it's the first night of the tour, and I thought why not? It's so worth it!"

42,000 people

Some 42,000 people will see Swift in Paris before dates in Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Britain, Ireland, Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Poland and Austria. The Eras Tour has worked its way across North and South America and Asia since starting in March 2023.

By the end of the year, it had already become the first to sell more than $1 billion in tickets and is on track to more than double that by the time it concludes in Vancouver this December.

Swifties in Paris are especially excited to hear songs off her new album, The Tortured Poets Society , being performed for the first time. Swift's tell-all dissections of her love stories have been the fuel powering her global domination, and fans have been pouring over The Tortured Poets Department for cryptic clues about Joe Alwyn, her short-but-dramatic fling with Matty Healy (lead singer of The 1975), and her current partner, American football star Travis Kelce.

"Taylor talks about toxic relationships, impossible love, politics, mental health, and so much more -- I think we can all find a song that resonates with our experiences," said Chris as she waited by her tent for the big moment.

Melissa Roxburgh has been cast in a lead role of the upcoming NBC drama series “The Hunting Party,” Variety has learned.

The series was originally announced at NBC back in February. It is described as a crime procedural about “a small team of investigators who are assembled to track down and capture the most dangerous killers our country has ever seen, all of whom have just escaped from a top-secret prison that’s not supposed to exist.”

The role marks a starring role return to NBC for Roxburgh, as she is best known for her starring role in the supernatural drama series “Manifest.” The show aired its first three seasons on NBC before moving to Netflix for a fourth and final season. She also recently appeared in an episode of NBC’s followup to “Quantum Leap” and previously starred in the CW series “Valor.” In film, she has starred in features like “Mindcage,” “I Still Believe,” and “Star Trek Beyond.”

JJ Bailey is the creator of “The Hunting Party” and wrote the pilot. He also serves as executive producer and co-showrunner, with Jake Coburn also credited as a writer on the series as well as executive producer and co-showrunner. Universal Television will produce, with Bailey under an overall deal at UTV while Coburn is under a first-look deal.

Roxburgh is repped by Gersh, Atlas Artists and Nuance Talent Management. Bailey is also repped by Gersh.
