The Rock Tour – Our 3 Day Uluru Trip Review

It took me a long time to visit Uluru. This all changed when I found a 3 day Uluru tour from The Rock Tour. Here is a review of all my Alice Springs to Uluru experiences.

I always had in my mind that one day I would visit Uluru, Australia. It would probably be on a road trip, quite possibly once I was retired.

Or maybe I would fly to Alice Springs in the Northern Territory and hire a car to drive myself to explore Uluru and the surrounding attractions. A tour was not in my plans.

That’s how it turned out though, and – spoiler – it was so much fun. Take a read and decide if this is the way you could see Uluru too.

Finding the Best Uluru Tours

In the past I have not been a fan of multi-day tours. I see them as restrictive, often including things I am not interested in, and don’t even get me started on spending multiple days in close quarters with the same group of people I possibly won’t get along with!

I may be a Gen X’er, but I am not ready yet to take luxury coach tours (will I ever be?) with a mass tour company. And when I started searching, that is mostly the type of Uluru packages I came across.

While I am not adverse to a little luxury, this trip was all about experiencing the Red Centre, and to me that’s more about camping under the stars and enjoying the wide open spaces rather than a resort.

I was looking at glamping Uluru travel packages but didn’t quite find one that I felt to be value for money.

I changed my focus to camping and soon came across The Rock Tour company and their 3-Day Uluru tour.

I really liked the options of these Uluru camping tours – they didn’t have to be 3 days, they could be 2 or 4, and could either start or finish at Uluru rather than Alice Springs. Now I had some flexibility to plan the rest of my trip.

***2023 update – Sadly, The Rock Tour no longer exist. Similar tours are available, and I will give options for them at the end of this post.

Before our Uluru Adventures

the rock tour alice springs

Before I even booked our Uluru travel, I made two different phone calls to the folks at The Rock Tour offices to discuss the options. I was considering ending the tour early, and spending a night at one of the many places to stay at Uluru rather than travelling back from Uluru to Alice Springs with the group.

I wanted to stay to see the Field of Light. I didn’t see a mention of it on The Rock Tour website, but on the phone I was told that could be accommodated on the night we were to camp at Yulara, the small tourist township right next to Uluru.

I was also given information explaining that sometimes the Uluru itinerary runs in the opposite direction.

Some begin with the Uluru part of the tour so that people can be picked up in Yulara (or from the Uluru airport) to begin the tour, others finish at Uluru to allow similar drop-offs in the area.

This means that those doing the full tour from Alice Springs and back again may go in either direction.

Once we arrived in Alice Springs, we called into The Rock Tour office on Todd Street to confirm we were in town  and to also go through everything we needed for the trip.

Things like the necessity for water, sunscreen and a hat were explained, and also the remoteness of where we were travelling. We again went through the itinerary, were told who our guide was and had the opportunity to ask any questions we had.

While we were well aware of the conditions we were likely to encounter, and were therefore prepared, this would be an invaluable part of the tour for an international visitor.

Day One – Kings Canyon

Our pick up time was 5:30am, and we were dutifully waiting outside the gates of our accommodation. Our bus arrived only a few minutes late and we received an apology from the driver for the delay.

There were two or three more pickups done throughout the town before we started on the almost 500km journey from Alice Springs to Kings Canyon.

Due to the early hour, our driver introduced himself, then left everyone to sleep for the first two hours or so until we made a stop at the Erldunda Roadhouse.

camping near uluru

It must be mentioned that there is absolutely nothing out here except red dirt, saltbush and a few small shrubs.

There might be a little bit of excitement if some of the cattle housed on the massive stations have wandered near the road, but that is about it for hundreds of kilometres at a time.

Sleeping therefore is a great option to pass the time – you will not miss anything! I am terrible at sleeping on any type of transport, so instead I had brought along a nice thick book to occupy my time.

On leaving Erldunda, our guide told us a bit more about himself and we all briefly introduced ourselves to the group. There were 17 of us.

Nine were 20-something backpackers from European countries, four were retirees from South Korea, another two were also from South Korea, a mother and her teenage son, and then there was my husband and I. A varied and motley crew!

the rock tour reviews

We were covering the miles to Kings Canyon and I started to notice how green the landscape was.

This area is one of the driest in Australia, but along the roadside and as far as the eye could see were tufts of green grass, even occasionally a darker patch of earth showing the remains of a puddle.

I had heard there had recently been rain in the area, but did not expect to see such an impact.

Normally out here it’s red dirt and the green/grey of the sparse vegetation that lives with very little water.

road trip to uluru

All of a sudden our guide hit the brakes and pulled over. He jumped out of the bus and started running in the direction we had come.

As we all watched in consternation, we saw he was carrying something back to the bus. It was a thorny devil!

I had seen these in the area I grew up, but I don’t think any of the international visitors had even heard of them before let alone seen one. Another of our strange Australian animals!

the rock tour

We arrived at Kings Canyon at around 12 pm and the hats and sunscreen quickly came out. The temperature was around 37 degrees Celsius, but we were lucky to have cloud cover so at least we didn’t have the hot sun beating down on us.

A quick lunch of sandwiches, and we were on our way out to explore Kings Canyon.

uluru and kings canyon tours

It was a hot and sweaty hike up to the top of the canyon, but the views over this ancient landscape were breathtaking.

Once we got to the canyon itself we could see a small waterfall flowing over the far edge, a testament to just how much rain had fallen in the area recently

best time to travel to uluru

Due to the heat, we could not do the full Kings Canyon Rim Walk – the path is closed on days when the temperature is forecast to be 36 degrees or above.

After a much-needed rest overlooking the canyon, we had to double back and return the way we came.

We were required to carry three litres of water each on this hike, and I think many of us were down to our last litre by the time we returned.

the rock tour

You would think after more than five hours in the bus in the morning, we would all be sick of sitting in there, but we clambered in, turning the air conditioning vents to full.

We started the drive to Curtain Springs Station where we were going to venture out into the bush to sleep in our swags under the stars.

This would be a proper bush camp with nothing around us except for what we were bringing with us. Yep, no showers here!

We had about three hours of driving to get to Curtain Springs. As we progressed, the clouds got darker and darker, until eventually the heavens opened. One thing I did not expect to see out here in central Australia was rain!

We arrived at the Curtain Springs roadhouse to two pieces of information from our guide.

The first was that we were not going to spend the night here after all, we would continue on into Yulara so that we could have at least a little shelter if it continued to rain.

the rock tour

The second thing was that if we wanted to be able to have a beer that night or the next, this was the last place we would be able to buy it.

Most people went in together to buy in bulk, but after seeing the prices, my recommendation is to stock up in Alice Springs before you leave.

the rock tour

As if we hadn’t had enough time in the bus that day, we now had another hour or so before we could call it a day.

We arrived into the Uluru Campgrounds at Yulara just as the sun was starting to go down. We all quickly set our swags up under the shelter, then got on to cooking dinner.

It was all hands on deck as everyone pitched in to create a simple but delicious and filling meal.

the rock tour

Once all the cleanup was done, we took advantage of the showers then sat around talking over a few drinks. It wasn’t long before we all started to drift off to our swags as the early morning and long day caught up with us.

Day Two – Kata Tjuta and Uluru Sunset

There was one good thing about doing the extra driving into Yulara the day before – we were able to have a bit of a sleep-in.

Of course, that is not really my style, so I was up before the sun and went for a short wander around the campsite.

As the sun was coming up I came upon an area that gave me amazing views across the plain to see the colours all around Uluru.

I came back to camp as the rest of the group was starting to stir, and began to pack up.

Even though we were back in this same campground again tonight, nothing was left out. No one fancied cuddling up with a centipede or other creepy crawly in their swag.

We were on our way by 8am, fully stocked with water, expecting an even hotter day, with a forecast of 38 degrees.  Again though we were blessed with at least a little cloud cover to make it a bit more bearable.

This was our first foray into the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. It was about a 45-minute drive to reach Kata Tjuta.

You may have heard about these rock formations under the previous name of The Olgas. Like Uluru (previously Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta has reverted to its indigenous name now that the land has been returned to its traditional owners.

At Kata Tjuta we were doing the Valley of the Winds walk. This walk consists of two lookouts. The first is the Karu Lookout, which has some really nice views, but the real goal was the Karingana Lookout, which had absolutely spectacular views.

the rock tour

Since it was so hot we were given two choices. After the Karu lookout, the path splits into two different routes. Some of our group chose the shorter route, but most of us took the longer, full loop.

This meant a steep – but thankfully quite short – climb towards the end to reach the lookout, but the countryside is worth the effort.

the rock tour

Again we needed some recovery time before we began the journey back to the bus. As we walked back past the Karu Lookout we noticed the path had now been closed.

When the forecast temperature is 36 or above it is closed at 11 am, so if you are planning to visit here in summer and want to go to the Karingana Lookout, go early in the morning. Our guide recommended we carry two litres of water each for this hike.

things to do in uluru

Our next stop was only five minutes away at an area that had picnic tables and also toilet facilities. Again we all pitched in to help with lunch which was a choice of meat and salad veggies to make wraps.

Cleanup in this area consisted of taking everything with us to ensure as little environmental damage as possible. Even the dirty dishwater was poured into a jerry can for waste rather than on the ground.

the rock tour uluru preparing lunch

It was almost possible to feel the anticipation on the bus as we – finally! – were going to Uluru itself. We had seen it in the distance as we approached Yulara the previous evening and again when we went to Kata Tjuta, and everyone was keen to get up close and personal with the rock.

At the foot of Uluru is the Aboriginal Cultural Centre, and we spent an hour here reading some of the dreamtime stories and learning about the local people and bush foods.

There is also an art centre here, and it’s possible to watch and interact with some of the local people creating amazing local paintings.

I just love Aboriginal dot paintings. I love the meanings and the stories and I was quite mesmerised watching some of the women paint.

No photography is allowed at the Aboriginal Cultural Centre due to the Aboriginal beliefs around seeing photos in the future of deceased people.

There are also many sacred areas around Uluru where visitors are asked not to film or photograph out of respect for the indigenous people.

Next we approached the famed rock; we were all ready to explore Uluru. I’ve seen it in thousands of photos, TV shows, ads and promotions, so I was surprised at how many caves marred the surface. In those many distant images Uluru looks smooth, but up close it is not.

Our guide took us on the Mala Walk and showed us some of the caves used by the local indigenous people in the past and explained the uses. We were also able to see a lot of the paintings on the caves.

We visited a waterhole that the Aboriginal people used for their water supply, and learned some of their stories. This is where the free Uluru walking tours take place every morning at 8 am.

the rock tour

This walk ended at the place where the Uluru climb began. In the past many people have climbed to the top of Uluru. It’s still possible, but only for a few months more.

Finally, in October 2019, the climb is being closed. Uluru is an important indigenous site, and climbing it is very disrespectful to the land owners.

Since this land was handed back to the traditional owners, it has been widely publicised that they do not want people to climb the rock. It has got to the point now where almost no one does it.

It is also dangerous to climb Uluru, with over 40 people dying while doing the climb, the last one only a few months ago.

uluru attractions

From here we started the 2km Lungkata Walk around to the Mutitjulu Waterhole. Our guide went back and picked up the bus and met us at the other end.

The path was wide, well-marked and flat, so even though it was really hot, thanks to the clouds it was still bearable. I think we were all pretty happy to see the bus again at the end though!

the rock tour

We had some time to spare so our guide took us to the Talinguru Nyakunytjaku viewing area.

This area is mostly used for sunrise/sunset viewing, so we were the only bus here. It gave us a different perspective of Uluru and some time to just sit and chill.

the rock tour

It was back around the other side of Uluru next to get the best spot for the sunset. Our guide started cooking up dinner while we admired the changing colours on the rock.

The cloud was fairly thick at this stage so we weren’t expecting it to be a fabulous sunset, but just before the sun reached the horizon the clouds parted and we had some great views of the rock lit up with those last rays of light.

the rock tour

Dinner was again basic, marinated chicken fried up in the wok with some noodles mixed with vegetables, but just like all the other meals, it was tasty and filling. There really is only so much that can be done on a portable cooktop and with only an esky to keep food cold!

It was back to the campsite for everyone else, but Simon and I had also chosen to go to the Field of Light . This was an added extra and not part of the tour, but we were able to be dropped off at the Outback Pioneer Lodge to meet the bus to take us to the Field of Light.

By the time we arrived back at the campsite it was around 10:30pm, and after a quick shower it was straight to sleep. We were not getting a sleep in the next morning!

Day Three  – Uluru Sunrise and Base Walk

It was 4:15 am when I crawled out of my swag. By 5 am everyone was up, packed up and we were on the bus on the way to the sunrise viewing point – which ended up being the same place we watched the sunset.

This meant instead of seeing the sun shine on Uluru, it would be coming up behind it. Only two or three other buses joined us at this location – I am guessing the rest were at the Talinguru Nyakunytjaku viewing area we visited yesterday afternoon.

As the sun came up we took plenty of photos and enjoyed our breakfast. Everyone was surprisingly energetic for the early hour of the morning and the amount of sleep we had.

Uluru sunrise tour

We were then on to our final Uluru hike, this time to walk the remainder of the Uluru Base Walk. We had about 7km left to walk, and as the sun was getting higher in the sky, the last few wisps of cloud were blowing away.

It was going to be a proper hot day of around 39 degrees with the full sun blazing down on us.

the rock tour

Seeing Uluru from so many different aspects was awe-inspiring. It really is one huge rock! It’s not a nice oval shape like it appears in the photos either, it’s actually almost triangular.

I loved seeing the dimples down the side showing where the waterfalls would flow during rain. Unfortunately we missed seeing that by only a few days.

the rock tour

By 8:30am we were back at the bus and our guide had laid out some fruit and cakes for morning tea. It was already uncomfortably hot and we were happy to be back in the bus again – even if we were now going to be there for the next five or six hours as we travelled from Uluru to Alice Springs.

The trip back was a quiet affair with many people sleeping for a good proportion of the journey. We had dropped four people at the Yulara airport so there was more room to spread out. I managed to read another good portion of my book!

We stopped again at Erldunda Roadhouse and enjoyed lunch at a picnic shelter overlooking an area with emus. When we had passed a few days earlier only one or two emus were hanging around, now there were at least a dozen, all trying to keep out of the full sun in the shady areas.

the rock tour

It was about 3:30pm when we were dropped back at our accommodation in Alice Springs. I was looking forward to a decent shower. There was just time for a quick rest before heading out again.

The Rock Tour Aftermath

When each group from The Rock Tour returns to Alice Springs they get together again for dinner and a few drinks at The Rock Bar.

Most of our group turned up, including our guide, and many of us danced and drank until the early hours of the morning.

It was a fantastic, relaxing way to let our hair down and reminisce about the past three days before we all went our different ways, unlikely to ever meet again.

My Overall Opinion

I really enjoyed this tour! Yes, we were sleeping on the ground in swags, yes we had to get up at the crack of dawn and yes we had to help cook our own food, but it was done with a fantastic group of people.

With such a varied group I was afraid it might not go so well, but everyone pulled their weight and everyone was on time.

Our guide Ben was great! He admitted he is only 21 years old (I have a daughter older than that!) but he ran this tour so well.

The driving he did on day one alone was enough to test many older people. He was knowledgeable and experienced beyond his years. When things didn’t go as planned (the rain) he made the right decision to change our location for the night.

He was friendly, patient and open, but also ready to delegate and pull people into line when needed. I hope his manager reads this and gives him a big pat on the back!

I wholeheartedly recommend taking an Uluru tour from Alice Springs using The Rock Tour. I cannot think of one single criticism to make about the way the tour was run.

Yes this is one of the cheap Uluru tours, and the value for money is fantastic.

We covered a huge amount of ground without ever feeling rushed (okay, maybe we felt rushed when we were packing up at 4:30 for sunrise, but I think that’s fair enough!) and I didn’t feel like we missed out on anything the more expensive tour groups offered.

**Note – I was not paid nor reimbursed in any way for this review, I paid my fare in full. My opinion above is completely independent.

Some Other Useful Information

I’ve mentioned the temperature during this post to give you an idea of the conditions that could be faced on your trip to Uluru. We did this trip at the end of October, so springtime.

In the middle of summer, temperatures can go well into the mid-forties. This is not the sort of environment that makes hiking easy. The best time to visit Uluru is therefore during winter. This is also the busiest time too.

If you want to extend your tour and you are wondering where to stay at Uluru, all accommodation is located in the small township of Yulara. In fact, this is not really a town, just a collection of different Uluru accommodation options.

To enter the Uluru – Kata Tjuta National Park there is a $38AUD park fee for three days. This is included in your tour cost.

Further Uluru tourist information can be found at the Aboriginal Cultural Centre.

There are not a whole lot of other Uluru tourist attractions than the ones I have mentioned. There are more Uluru experiences though such as seeing it from above in a helicopter  or doing a segway tour around the base .

Alternative Tours

As I mentioned above, sadly The Rock Tour stopped running during Covid and has not returned. There are similar tours available though. Here are two to get you started with your research

3 Day 2 Night Tour of Uluru Highlights

This tour is very similar to the one I did, with camping and similar activities. It does have an age limit of 18-49 (max 59) though, which seems a little unfair.

Yes, you do need a certain level of fitness and good health to do this tour, but the Koreans in their seventies who travelled with us were often doing better than some of the twenty-somethings.

3 Day Uluru Camping Tour

This one is a step up from the above tour. Instead of swags, you will be sleeping in permanent tents. It’s also a little more expensive.

The other difference is this one starts and finishes in Yulara, which is great if you can get flights directly there instead of Alice Springs.

4 Day 3 Night Rock to Rock Camping Tour

This tour is similar – and run by the same people – as the first tour above. Instead, it picks up and drops off at Ayers Rock Airport (Yulara), working with the flight times to create the itinerary.

Uluru looks amazing! It seems like the ultimate Aussie adventure! I am saving this for later when I make it out to Australia! (:

Thanks Aaron. Even for an Aussie experiencing Uluru was magical. I home you can get out to Australia soon to see it for yourself!

Great information in this post. The photo with the Prickly Devil in your hands looks scary. Hoping to go to Uluru in the next year or two.

Hahaha, they are totally harmless, except if you happen to grab him the wrong way and spike yourself! Glad you enjoyed the post.

Glad you enjoyed your tour and made good on your decision to continue the journey. Being able to see the amazing views in Uluru is indeed inspiring. Hope to see more of your adventures!

Thanks so much – and thanks again for a good tour. It’s easy for me to recommend!

Such a well-expressed review thanks Josie. Not being a walker I am unlikely to undertake such an adventure but I certainly enjoyed your attention to details and general descriptions of how it all fitted together. No wonder this Rock hold so much fascination both for local people as well as being a geographic curiosity for overseas visitors. Most enjoyable read.

Thanks Jan. if you ever choose to visit, there are many other options for seeing some of the scenery that does not involve so much walking.

Jane’s Addiction to Cancel Tour After Onstage Fight

In a social media post, the rock band said it was halting its reunion tour after the group’s singer, Perry Farrell, hit its guitarist at a Boston show.

Dave Navarro, wearing black jeans and a vest and hat, holds an electric guitar. Perry Farrell, right, holds a microphone and wears black jeans and a yellow patterned jacket.

By Annie Correal

The rock band Jane’s Addiction announced on Monday that it would cancel the remainder of its reunion tour in the United States and Canada days after its singer, Perry Farrell, physically confronted its guitarist at a concert in Boston.

A message posted to Instagram said the band had made “the difficult decision to take some time away as a group.”

Jane’s Addiction, which rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s, was about halfway through its North America tour when the episode took place on Friday.

The tour was one of several reunions convened this year by rock bands that gained cult followings in earlier decades. It was the first tour by the original band members in 14 years, according to Rolling Stone .

The episode took place at the Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston. Video captured by concertgoers and verified by Storyful showed the band’s singer Farrell confronting Dave Navarro, a guitarist, as the two performed.

Farrell slammed his shoulder into Navarro, then appeared to throw a punch at him before being physically restrained. In the videos, Farrell, who had been yelling vocals into a microphone, shouted at Navarro and then doubled over, appearing agitated.

Navarro shared a statement on his Instagram account on Monday saying that “the mental health difficulties of our singer” were the reason the band had decided it could not go forward with the tour.

The message, which was also signed by the group’s other members, Eric Avery and Stephen Perkins, said, “Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative.”

The message ended: “Our hearts are broken.”

On Monday, a representative for Farrell shared a statement from the singer.

“This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show,” he said. “Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”

Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell, said on Instagram after the concert that her husband had been upset throughout the tour about the band’s sound levels drowning out his vocals. He was suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat, she said.

The tension spilled over that night. “He was screaming just to be heard,” she said in the message. She praised Navarro for keeping calm but also accused Avery of entering the fight and punching Farrell.

Jane’s Addiction formed in Los Angeles in the mid-1980s and is perhaps best known for the MTV hit “Been Caught Stealing” from the band’s 1990 album “Ritual de lo Habitual.” It followed the cult favorite “Nothing’s Shocking” (1988) and a live album, “Jane’s Addiction” (1987). The song “Just Because” (2003) spent nine weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at No. 72 .

Farrell, 65, is known as a rock ’n’ roll frontman and also as an “inveterate impresario .” In 1991, Farrell created the festival that would become synonymous with ’90s alternative rock, Lollapalooza, where Jane’s Addiction was a headlining act.

Jane’s Addiction has periodically held reunion tours, including in 2001. A review in The New York Times at the time described “Perry Farrell strutting in flashy suits and feathered hats as he sang, and the bare-chested Dave Navarro striking classic heavy-metal guitar poses.”

This year’s tour brought together original band members, a rare treat for early fans.

The stop in Boston came more than halfway through the band’s North America tour . Fifteen scheduled shows, including one this past weekend in Bridgeport, Conn., were called off as a result of the band’s decision.

Fans reacted to the message announcing the tour’s cancellation with a mix of disappointment and support for the band for having made the choice to prioritize Farrell’s mental health.

Some concertgoers said there were signs of a problem before Boston’s show. At a concert in New Orleans in late August, Mr. Farrell was screeching into the microphone and making strange comments between songs, according to George Ingmire, a fan of the group and a longtime radio producer and D.J. who attended the show.

“He was making comments about New Orleans being a good place to score heroin. I found that offensive. I left halfway through,” Mr. Ingmire said in a telephone interview.

“I saw him back in the 1980s,” he added of Farrell. “And it was magical. Maybe he was as much of a mess then, but I doubt it.”

Heart, led by sisters Nancy and Ann Wilson, had to pause the band’s Royal Flush Tour in July after Heart revealed that lead Ann Wilson was battling cancer.

“I underwent an operation to remove something that, as it turns out, was cancerous,” Wilson said in a statement sent out by representatives from Grandstand Media .

“The operation was successful and I’m feeling great but my doctors are now advising me to undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy and I’ve decided to do it,” Wilson said. “So my doctors are instructing me to take the rest of the year away from the stage in order to fully recover.”

Heart revealed that the band would be resuming its tour earlier this month .

A CITI Bank cardholder presale will start Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 12 p.m. (local time) while Heart’s artist presale will start Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. local time.

Tickets for the new dates go on sale to the general public on Friday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. local time. Any previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new dates.

The Royal Flush Tour is the band’s first after a five-year hiatus. The tour had an initial run in April and May in the United States, with several additional shows scheduled for August and September.

Heart’s Ann Wilson Announces She’s Completed Chemo, Will Return to the Road Next Year

Heart Ann Wilson Announces Cancer Diagnosis

UPDATE: 9/25/24 4:43 p.m. ET

Heart’s Ann Wilson shared a positive update about her health after revealing a cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

“I’m doing absolutely fine now but it’s been, to put it mildly, a lot. Chemo is no joke,” Wilson said in an audio message posted via her social media accounts on Wednesday, September 25. “It takes a lot out of a person. And then there’s that two weeks of waiting around for test results, a form of mental torture. For anyone who’s been through that, I empathize big time.”

Wilson continued, “Luckily, for me, when the results finally came, they were the good kind!”

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer said she is “finished with chemo” and looks forward to getting back on the road with Heart in 2025.

Original story below:

Heart singer Ann Wilson revealed she recently underwent surgery for cancer and will be taking time away from the road, postponing the Royal Flush Tour with Cheap Trick.

The rock legend, 74, made the announcement via Instagram on Tuesday, July 2.

“Dear friends, I recently underwent surgery to remove something that, as it turns out, was cancerous,” she wrote. “The operation was successful & and I’m feeling great but my doctors are now advising me to undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy & I’ve decided to do it.”

Wilson continued, “And so my doctors are instructing me to take the rest of the year away from the stage in order to fully recover.”

Heart was scheduled to return to the Royal Flush Tour alongside Cheap Trick on July 30, with dates scheduled throughout North America through the end of the year.

The “Barracuda” singer did not specify what type of cancer she is battling.

In May, the band canceled the remainder of their European tour citing Wilson’s health and a “time-sensitive but routine medical procedure for which the minimum recovery time is six weeks.”

After announcing her cancer diagnosis, Wilson boasted it’s her “absolute plan” to return to touring in 2025. “My team is getting those details sorted & we’ll let you know the plan as soon as we can,” she said.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer thanked the band’s legions of fans and closed the message with a hopeful send-off.

“This is merely a pause,” Wilson wrote. “I’ve much more to sing.”

Wilson noted her post will be her “last public statement” on the matter.

Her bandmate and younger sister Nancy Wilson also posted about the diagnosis.

“HELLO beloved Heartmongers and noble Heart fans!” Nancy wrote via Instagram on Tuesday. “Happy to let you all know that the HEART tour is still coming your way, but we need to take a temporary pause and postpone the remaining HEART tour dates for now. Rescheduled dates are on the way so stay tuned.”

Nancy concluded, “From the end of the world to your town! See you guys soon. Can’t wait. Love rules.”

Nancy and Ann Wilson of Heart on stage

Just two days after her band Heart quietly added some shows to a planned 2025 national tour, Ann Wilson announced today that she has completed chemotherapy treatment for cancer and will indeed be ready to hit the road next year.

In an audio statement posted on her Instagram page, Wilson, who performs with sister Nancy Wilson in the band known for such classics as “Barracuda,” “Crazy On You” and “Magic Man,” says, “Now I know lots of you have been wondering how I’ve been doing. So I thought it’d be best if you heard this straight from me.

“Luckily, for me, when the results finally came, they were the good kind!”

Wilson goes on to say she is “finished with chemo” and “officially ready to get ready for the tour in 2025!”

Although Wilson has not specified the type of cancer, she announced on social media in July that she had “recently underwent an operation to remove something that, as it turns out, was cancerous.” She added, “The operation was successful & I’m feeling great but my doctors are now advising me to undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy & I’ve decided to do it. And so my doctors are instructing me to take the rest of the year away from the stage in order to fully recover.”

At the time of the initial announcement, Heart cancelled its Royal Flush 2024 tour dates (UK and European dates had already been cancelled due to her operation).

Wilson said today that she will undergo “maintenance” treatments but has been told “the side effects are much less severe” than the initial chemo treatments. She added, “The worst is over & I’m thankful for the efficacy of this poison – but it’s more than welcome to get the f*ck out of my body now.”

“My story has a happy ending due in part to early detection,” Wilson concludes. “My advice? Get checked regularly.”

Here is the itinerary for the Heart 2025 Royal Flush Tour , followed by Wilson’s Instagram message:

It's been a long time coming … Taylor Swift's return to Florida , that is.

The second U.S. leg of Swift's super-successful "Eras Tour" kicks off in Florida in less than a month, giving fans only mere weeks to finalize the final parts of their concert plans.

"Miss Americana" will play three shows here in October. Here's when Taylor Swift 's Miami shows are, which stadium Swift will perform in, the bag rules and parking information for the stadium to help Swifties prepare.

Where is taylor swift playing in miami in october where is hard rock stadium.

Hard Rock Stadium is not actually in Miami. It's in Miami Gardens, on Don Shula Drive. The last time Swift performed at Hard Rock Stadium was on her 2018 Reputation Tour.

How much are Eras Tour tickets in Miami for October 2024?

Tickets to all three of the Miami dates for Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” completely sold out via Ticketmaster  in September 2023 , but you can find tickets being resold on  StubHub  and  SeatGeek .

However, a majority of these tickets are sold by scalpers above face value, ranging from $1,600 to $8,000 for seats. Here's a comparison of each Miami concert date's cheapest price , as per StubHub:

  • Friday , Oct. 18 - $1,540 per ticket in upper section.
  • Saturday, Oct. 19 - $1,550 per ticket in upper section
  • Sunday, Oct. 20 - $1,4420 per ticket for obstructed view

What items are allowed inside Hard Rock Stadium?

Hard Rock Stadium allows  each person to bring one clear bag and one clutch-sized bag into the venue.

Here are the bag requirements for Hard Rock Stadium:

  • Must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC
  • Can't exceed 12” by 6” and 12”
  • Can be a one-gallon, clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar).
  • In addition to one of the clear bags noted above, fans may also carry in a small clutch bag or purse approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap.

"Items such as smartphones, binoculars, and cameras will still be permitted into the stadium. This policy is meant to speed up the process of entering the stadium along with increasing security measures," the stadium's website says.

What is the parking situation for Hard Rock Stadium? Can I tailgate at the Eras Tour?

The stadium has over 26,500 parking spaces, but officials recommend advanced booking for anyone who wants a hassle-free parking experience.

On its website, Hard Rock officials released prices and maps for Swift's concerts:

  • Pre-Paid Yellow (On-Site Parking) – $60
  • Pre-Paid Gray Lot (Off-Site Parking) – $80

According to Hard Rock's website, you must have a concert ticket to park at the stadium. While "Tay-gating" the concerts became popular for those without tickets, you won't able to this time.

Will 'Florida!!!' get a spot on the set list?

According to  Taylor Swift, “Florida!!!”  is “one hell of a drug.” So will she perform her new song based on the state while in it?

“Florida!!!” is a pretty grungy, dark song about trying to separate yourself from a bad or painful situation and going to Florida to forget about it. You be the judge of if it’s reflective of the Sunshine State or not.

Swift told  iHeart Radio  that after getting inspiration from crime shows, she thought of where she'd go if she needed to reinvent herself.

"I think I was coming up with this idea of 'what happens when your life doesn't fit' or 'the choices you've made catch up with you' and you're surrounded by these harsh consequences and judgement," Swift said. "And circumstances did not lead you to where you thought you'd be."

As noted above, she surprised Swifties last month with the first ever performance of the song "Florida!!!" and even had featuring artist Florence Welch with her. While some thought she'd save the performance for when she's actually in Florida, most see this as a sign she will add the song to the album's dedicated section during the remaining tour dates.

Guitarist Dave Navarro seemingly drops hint about future of Jane's Addiction

by JESSICA A. BOTELHO | The National Desk

LOS ANGELES (TND) — The future of Jane's Addiction is up in the air after an onstage scuffle between lead singer Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro.

In an Instagram post, Navarro appeared to imply the band won't ever perform live or tour again. The post included a video of the band's new song, "True Love," as well as Navarro's sentiments about it.

"I am proud of the work we did on this song but I am equally saddened by the fact that you will likely never hear it live," the guitarist wrote Friday.

He went on to apologize to the band's crew in wake of the fallout, as several of them stepped in when Farrell looked as if he body checked Navarro and then threw a punch at his bandmate during the band's Boston show Sept. 13.

"I'd also like to publicly apologize to our crew, @crawlersband and their crew and to @loveandrocketsofficial and their crew. Thanks for being our travel companions for as long as you did. I am gutted that things ended this way and that so many jobs were lost as a result. May all of our hearts mend together," Navarro added.

A separate social media post shows Navarro sitting on the floor next to an amplifier. He's playing guitar -- using a can of spray paint.

"More BTS from my day working with @supremenewyork shot by @imvanessadubasso - I got to play with my favorite spray paint @montana_colors," he wrote.

Navarro seems to be keeping busy. He recently had some time in his schedule open up, as Jane's Addiction cancelled the rest of its reunion tour soon after the onstage drama.

“The band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group. As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour,” the band said in a statement posted on social media.

Video of the incident was captured at the band's show at Leader Bank Pavilion and quickly circulated on social media. Fans said it was confusing to watch it all unfold.

“The crowd was bemused," one person posted on X, also noting that while half the audience seemed upset the performance ended early, the rest felt "excited" because they "may have seen the last Janes A show ever.”

The show ended shortly after and the band later apologized as a group.

In a statement obtained by The National Desk earlier this month, the vocalist also apologized for his behavior during the show.

"This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show," he previously said. "Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation."

Star-Studded Rock4EB! Concert Raises Over $1 Million for 'Butterfly' Skin Disease Epidermolysis Bullosa

Pink, Courteney Cox, Kaley Cuoco, Brad Pitt, Judd Apatow and more stars supported the fundraiser for epidermolysis bullosa

This year’s star-studded Rock4EB! concert for epidermolysis bullosa was a success.

On September 21, the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation hosted its 7th annual event in Malibu, Calif., raising over $1 million in one night for research and to find a cure for the rare skin condition. The foundation is the only all volunteer, nonprofit funder of research for EB.

This year, several celebrities supported the cause, including Pink — who was the special performer at the concert — Courteney Cox , Kaley Cuoco , Tom Pelphrey , Elizabeth Olsen , Brad Pitt , Ines de Ramon , Catherine Bell , Judd Apatow , Kim Basinger , Ed O'Neill and more.

Andrea Pett-Joseph and Paul Joseph launched the Los Angeles chapter of the EBMRF in 2005, and took over day-to-day operations of the foundation later that year. Their involvement began after their son Brandon , now 20, was born with epidermolysis bullosa .

EB — often called the "butterfly disease" because the condition leaves the skin as fragile as a butterfly’s wings — is a genetic disorder that causes painful blisters on the skin and internal organs from even the slightest touch or friction. The result is disfiguring scars and often, early death from skin cancer.

Nearly 20 years later, Andrea and Paul say the EBMRF is most recognized for their Rock4EB! concert. During the event, several stars stressed how important the foundation was.

“This is very near and dear to my heart,” Cox told PEOPLE. “This event is so important because we need to raise awareness. We need to continue to raise funds. This is such a behind-the-scenes charity no one understands. It needs to be talked about.”

“I've kind of been part of this for a very, very, very long time, and I've seen what it can do,” Cuoco said of the fundraiser. “I just like to be able to be here and be as supportive as I can. I love that family, and I think this is a terrible, terrible disease, and it should not be real.”

“It’s a really important charity, and they're making a lot of progress,” added Apatow, who hosted the event. “So I'm always happy to help when called.”

Ahead of the annual fundraiser, Andrea told PEOPLE that she can’t believe it’s been two decades working with the foundation, assuring their work is far from over.

“Sometimes you run a foundation and you're in it for the cause, but you're brought to the table by different reasons. And for us, obviously it's very personal,” she said. “So we're here 'till we figure it out. And certainly the progress that we've made, we're really happy about.”

“We always joke with all the researchers and say, ‘We'd love nothing more than for you guys to put us out of business.’” Paul added with a laugh. “But yeah, we're thrilled.”

“We are never going to have enough dollars to fund something from inception to actual public use,” he continued. “But the idea that we can hand off the baton and get other pharmaceutical companies involved and other foundations, and more research, that's really the multiplier effect where we felt we added some value.”

50 STATE FREEDOM ROCK TOUR

A unique 50+ piece mural across the u.s.a., goal of at least one freedom rock in every state in the union .

the rock tour

The 50 State Freedom Rock Tour, created by the artist of The Freedom Rock; Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II, aims to spread the message of thanking our Veterans while providing a  unique to their state Freedom Rock  for all 50 States in America.

Sorensen will tour the country over the next few years completing the murals and providing an instant tourist attraction.

Remember, the application is just for info purposes and the  Tour is booked on a first come, first serve basis.    So get your app in before the other towns in your state in order to secure your spot in history.  In other words, book the artist before you start the planning/funding process as it could end up "all for not" (NOTE: You cannot fundraise using the registered Trademark "Freedom Rock®" without proper booking and permission).

Info is provided below, including the application for inclusion on the tour.  As always if there are any questions don't hesitate to call or email. (NOTE: We are not waiting by the phone, if you feel it is urgent, leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can. Otherwise, we are prompt with email replies.)

Bubba's 50 State Freedom Rock Tour Goals:

1) Honor America's Veterans

2) Promote tourism in each state and across America

3) Make a living and provide for my family

NOTE:   The goal is to be unique and tell area/state specific stories on each rock.  The artist  will not  necessarily include every era/branch/race/gender etc on each rock but rather, the goal is to represent all of that across the entire tour with those specific stories.  Think of each rock as a piece of a puzzle, not all encompassing until you step back and look at the entire project. If you don't see something represented on a certain rock, that means it probably will be, or already is represented on another rock.  Please understand that the artist has control of the content/design of each rock, relying on each county for some of the ideas to inspire said design.
