Sorry for the late update! As you know by now, Davis Thompson won the John Deere Classic by four shots over a trio of players. Thompson's first win on Tour earned him $1.44M and a pretty sweet trophy.

We had a tie in the Mayhem League! Brian Frye of Graham's Caddie and Fritz Krause of Milwaukee's Best both started Sungjae Im (T12) alongside Thompson, and when their subs tied in the tournament, there was no blood to be had. As such, no Skin was won, so this coming week's prize is $50. Great work to both of you!

Mike Banitt of Ace One is holding onto his overall lead over my Orange Balls team. Mike still leads by a little more than 500k with six weeks to go. Raymond Cox of 3PuttPro moved to the lead of Segment 4, followed closely by Kyle Krier of GetInTheHole.

This week is the first of two in Scotland. The Genesis Scottish Open is the opening act to The Open Championship, and with the Skin worth $50, it shouldn't be ignored. Remember, the lineup deadline is much earlier for the next two weeks, so set those lineups early... and good luck! Cheers!

The conclusion of the Travelers Championship signified not only the end of the Signature Events but also a cadence of those weaved into two majors and other formats across the last two months. While all of it was consequential and historic, the most impactful segment of the season for many is about to begin.

Starting with this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic, PGA TOUR membership is promised six opportunities of Full-Field competition in seven weeks. The stretch will include consecutive weeks with Additional Events in July and a week off for the Olympics. Then, once the winner of the Wyndham Championship is crowned on Aug. 11, the field of 70 will be set for the FedExCup Playoffs.

Detroit Golf Club hosts for the sixth time. For details on the scorer’s paradise and other intel concerning the tournament, continue reading beneath the ranking of those projected to contend.

No excuses. Professional athletes aren’t prone to them, anyway, but if any in the field of 156 at Detroit Golf Club can’t find his game there, he won’t find it anywhere.

For one, the stock par 72 remains unchanged. It tips at 7,370 yards and surrendered a scoring average of 69.919 a year ago. That’s officially the lowest of the first five editions, but four of the five winners scored 23-under 265 or better, so the objective is obvious – go low or go home.

The routing is a composite of the North and South Courses, but the South is represented only by the par-4 third hole. As a whole, the course has proven to be one of the easiest from tee to green, and it has been comfortably inside the easier half in putts per greens hit. So, the formula is not dissimilar to last week’s shootout at TPC River Highlands. Hit greens and sink putts.

The setup is pretty much the same as it was at TPC River Highlands as well. Greens blanketed with Poa annua are smaller in size at 5,150 square feet and governed to touch 12-1/2 feet on the Stimpmeter. The lushest of the rough is four inches, but even guys who are in it more often than others might feel a reprieve given how the track caters to improved accuracy.

Primarily calm and comfortable weather is on tap for the first full week of summer in Motown. The outlier is scheduled for Saturday’s third round for which rain, storms and a spike in temperature (into the mid-80s) are forecast. Otherwise, comfortable air will be accompanied by gentle breezes.

Before we begin, if you're not familiar with game, read this primer on the one-and-done fantasy golf format , and welcome to the game. It really is as easy as it sounds, but you have to take a long-term view of the season to figure out how best to use players.

This week, we have the John Deere Classic, with the PGA Tour remaining in the Midwest for a run of events that will determine the FedEx Cup playoffs field. There's a pretty decent field here, but it's mostly stars that are struggling a bit this year.

• Sungjae Im : Im seems to be playing knowing that he's awfully close to a breakthrough win.
• Sepp Straka : The defending champion has been playing some great golf lately.
• Jordan Spieth : Spieth has enjoyed tremendous success here, and he needs a boost on his season.
• Denny McCarthy : Denny has been going sideways a bit recently, hanging in the low 30s.

2024 John Deere Classic One and Done picks, purse, sleepers, field, strategy: Top PGA Tour predictions, power rankings, expert golf betting advice from DFS pro

The PGA Tour heads to Silvis, Illinois this week for the 2024 John Deere Classic. Play gets underway on Thursday, July 4 at TPC Deere Run. Sungjae Im is the 14-1 betting favorite in the latest 2024 John Deere Classic odds. Other top contenders in the 2024 John Deere Classic field include Sepp Straka (15-1), Aaron Rai (16-1), Denny McCarthy (18-1), and Jordan Spieth (20-1). The total 2024 John Deere Classic purse is $8 million, with the winner's share payout listed as $1.44 million. Patrick Cantlay, who was the opening betting favorite, withdrew from the field and was replaced by Russell Knox. The first groups are set to tee off at 7:45 a.m. ET.

Before locking in your 2024 John Deere Classic one and done picks,  you need to see what SportsLine DFS pro and PGA expert Mike McClure has to say. 

The One and Done format is growing in popularity. It has several noticeable similarities to NFL Survivor pools, with the main difference being entries are not eliminated with a bad week. Players pick one golfer per week and earn points based on their selected golfer's prize money for that tournament. Golfers can only be used once per season, and the point format makes nailing majors and big money tournaments critical.

McClure is a DFS legend with over $2 million in career winnings,  and he's been RED-HOT on his PGA picks dating back to the PGA Tour restart in June of 2020. McClure uses his proprietary simulation model to analyze the field and crush his golf picks .

McClure has been on fire with his One and Done picks in 2024. At The American Express he backed Justin Thomas, who finished in third place and took home $635,600. At the Genesis Invitational, McClure tabbed Patrick Cantlay, who finished in fourth place at the signature event, as his top OAD pick. At the Cognizant Classic, McClure's top one and done pick, Min Woo Lee, finished in a tie for second place. Finally, at the Arnold Palmer Invitation, another signature event, McClure recommended using Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris. The Result: Scheffler won the event by five strokes, and Zalatoris finished in fourth place.

His hot steak continued at the Players Championship, where McClure again recommended using Scheffler (if was still available) and Xander Schauffele. Both players were in contention until the end, with Scheffler coming out with the win and Schauffele finishing in second place! Then, at the Valspar Championship, McClure listed Cameron Young, who finished in second place, as his top OAD pick.

More recently, at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, McClure recommended using 50-1 longshot Alex Noren in One and Done pools. Noren would go on to be in contention until the end, before finishing in third place, two strokes off the lead! And at the PGA Championship, McClure targeted Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa, who finished in third and fourth places, respectively. He targeted Morikawa again at the Memorial Tournament, where Morikawa finished second.

Finally, at the U.S. Open, McClure's top two one and done picks were Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy. DeChambeau finished in first place and McIlroy in second! And at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, McClure was backing Aaron Rai, who finished T2.

Now, McClure has his sights on the 2024 John Deere Classic and just revealed his optimal One and Done picks. They are a must-see for any player looking for an edge in their One and Done pool.
