Journey Church exists to build a community of people that does life around the presence of God.

Our mission, our mission is to see our cities transformed by the power of the gospel for the glory of god in our generation., our unique characteristics, we are a presence driven church.

We are not built around any person or ministry. We are built around one thing, the presence of God. Through worship, prayer, and God’s Word, we lead people from corporate encounters with God to daily personal encounters with God.

We Put People First

People matter to God, so they matter to us. We prioritize relationship over ministry. We are more intentional about building people than we are programs.

We are a Diverse Church

We are a church of various cultures, backgrounds, and ages. We are all one body, called to be in unity with God and His mission.

Seek His Presence. Build His People.

TAKE GOD ENCOUNTERS AND GIVE THEM AWAY We value the urgent responsibility and privilege given to us by God — to proclaim the Gospel to all people, tribes, and nations. We evangelize by sharing the knowledge and understanding of God that we receive in our daily encounters with Him.

PRAY FIRST In every situation, whether good or bad, we pray before we act. Prayer is our first response, not our last resort.

Discipleship

NEVER STOP As disciples of Jesus, we will never stop growing in our relationship with Him. We believe Jesus’ best plan for this is discipleship. We will be disciples that make disciples.

SERVANT LEADERSHIP We believe the greatest leadership is service to others. Every leader is a servant first. From the parking lot to the pulpit, everyone serves. Every role is different, but they are all important.

REAL PEOPLE We are real, not religious people. We don’t hide behind a mask or image. We all fall short at times, and we aren’t afraid to admit our shortcomings to one another and build one another up.

Celebration

TESTIFY GOD’S GOODNESS If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong! We make time to celebrate wins by testifying God’s goodness in our lives.

MAKE IT BETTER We represent the Lord by doing the best we can with what we have. Everything has room for improvement, and we will have an attitude of whatever it takes to make it better than yesterday.

TALK IT OUT We build the trust, character, and relationships of tomorrow by engaging in the tough conversations today.

PULSE CHECK We remain healthy by prioritizing personal encounters with God, pursuing purity, putting family first, and protecting our Sabbath so we can lead others in health.

Edification

SPEAK LIFE We see people the way God sees people. We call out destiny in others by speaking life and not death.

GIVE IT AWAY TO KEEP IT

We will be generous with pure motives, knowing God blesses the pure in heart. We give our time, treasure, and talents from a heart of compassion.

LEADERSHIP STANDARDS

Daily encounters.

We engage the Lord through daily personal encounters by welcoming the Holy Spirit, asking the Lord to speak to us, digging into God’s Word, praying the Lord’s Prayer, and listening for His response.

We honor the Sabbath and keep it holy by stewarding our time according to God’s teachings. We balance productivity with a commitment to take time away and recover in order to not risk our health, well-being, and effectiveness for the Kingdom.

We protect the unity of our church by acting in love toward other members, refusing to gossip, and submitting to leadership. We exercise forgiveness at all costs by asking for God’s forgiveness, forgiving ourselves and forgiving others. We believe there is no spiritual growth without forgiveness.

We recognize the difference between good ideas and God ideas. As we seek his wisdom, we will respond like Moses, “If Your presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here.” We will be leaders who only go where He is leading and operate in His giftings to get there.

Stewardship

We honor what God has given us by tithing faithfully, using our resources effectively, stewarding His presence with humility, and using our time productively.

Crime and Public Safety | Slain Lake deputy awarded honors as community celebrates his life

Link killed in the line of duty while responding to call at eustis home on aug. 2.

Holding the American flag, Brittany Link, widow of Lake County Master Deputy Bradley Link, begins to weep as she listens to the “last call” during the celebration of life ceremony for her husband at Real Life Church in Clermont, Fla., Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024. (Willie J. Allen Jr./Orlando Sentinel)

“Lake 2836,” a voice began referring to Lake County Master Deputy Bradley Link’s call sign, as it began the final transmission signing him off from duty.

“May the sun shine upon his house. May the wind always be at his back. May the Lord hold him in the palm of his hand, until we meet again,” it continued. “On Aug. 10, at 1251 hours, Lake 2836 is 10-7.”

A giant flag hanging from a firetruck greeted the hundreds who attended Link’s celebration of life a week after he was killed responding to a suspected burglary of a Brookside Drive home in Eustis.

During the ceremony, Sheriff Peyton Grinnell recounted Link’s actions the day of the shooting and posthumously awarded him the Medal of Honor and Purple Heart.

“Master Deputy Link exemplified the highest ideals of duty, honor and sacrifice,” Grinnell said. “He faced danger without hesitation, stood firm in the face of adversity and selflessly placed the safety of others above his own.”

Link, 28, responded to the scene on his way home from his shift. He and other deputies were ambushed by the family living there. The family is alleged to have been waiting as Julie Ann Sulpizio, its matriarch, attempted to lure neighbors to the house to kill them, saying they were acting on God’s behalf.

Though he was shot, Link shot back, laying suppressing gunfire to allow fellow deputies to escape. Two other deputies, Harold Howell and Stefano Gargano, were shot in an effort to rescue Link as he was trapped in the home.

Both survived, though Gargano, who was shot multiple times and has undergone several surgeries, remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Cheyenne and Savannah Sulpizio — 22 and 23, respectively — were found dead inside the house along with their stepfather, 49-year-old Michael Sulpizio, after shooting themselves in the head. Julie Ann Sulpizio, 48, faces murder and attempted murder charges.

“Brad died doing what he loved to do,” Grinnell said. “He was a hero.”

Link, survived by his wife Brittany Link, long dreamed of being a cop. As a teen he was involved with the Sheriff’s Office Explorers Program and later served in the Army Reserves before becoming a deputy sheriff in Polk County in 2017.

Two years later he joined the Lake County Sheriff’s Office as a master deputy.

Link’s coworkers — Deputies Stephanie Early, Matt Layman and Preston Leonard — remembered him as a kind and courageous man who thoroughly enjoyed his work. Early said Link was her field training officer before the two and their spouses became close friends.

“He was a role model,” Early said. “His ability to navigate life and treat others with kindness inspired people.

“Personally, he made me want to change the way I live my life and motivated me to become the best person I aspire to be.”

Layman, who said he and Link were jokingly referred to as “work wives,” remembered him as a kind man even when “we argued like a married couple at times.” Leonard, who affectionately called Link “Baby Boy,” further referred to him as “truly fearless in all his endeavors.”

“His love for being a law enforcement officer comes from his truly selfless desire to serve others,” Leonard said.

Beyond the job, the three said Link was a man undeniably in love with his wife. His family’s pastor, Justin Miller, recalled his first time meeting the couple — at first noticing his trademark mustache.

“I know behind every massive mustache is a very tolerant woman, so I saw that and said, ‘Man, she must really love you to let you have a mustache that big,'” Miller said. “She just grabbed his arm and she says, ‘I do,’ and he just kind of glowed. It was a beautiful moment.”

Dressed in white, Brittany Link stood poised before the audience, thanking them and the community for their support. She described her husband as funny, gentle and sweet, calling him her teddy bear. He was a lover of bright lights of all kinds, she said, and enjoyed peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches and going to Magic Kingdom.

“He carried himself with a quiet confidence — slow to speak, slow to anger and quick to understand,” Brittany Link said of her husband and high school sweetheart, who she added was “truly a living, breathing angel.”

A GoFundMe page created in Link’s honor has raised more than $155,000 for his family as of Saturday afternoon.

Brittany Link further called on the community to carry on the fallen deputy’s legacy of kindness and courage: “Have Bradley’s heart for the needy, the broken, the rejects and the lonely.”

“I truly believe he’s still taking care of me from heaven by sending me all of you,” she said in closing.
