Changi Precinct Tour

The Free Singapore Tour is open to all travellers transiting in Changi Airport.

Valid for passengers with layover of at least 5.5 hours, and less than 24 hours, and with flight schedules that fit the tour timing requirements.

* Eligibility to participate in the tour is subject to visa entry requirements stipulated by the  Immigrations & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore . Please enquire at the Free Singapore Tour Booths for more information.

How To Register ?

• Singapore Airlines and Scoot passengers can pre-book the tour via  online booking page . You may scroll down to view and book all the tour types.
• Please note that while making the booking, you will have to input the name of all passengers going on the tour so that we can reserve the corresponding number of spaces.
• When you arrive at Changi Airport, please remain in the transit area and do not clear immigration as the registration booths are located at the transit area.

2) At Changi Airport

Present your boarding passes and valid entry visas (if applicable) at the Free Singapore Tours booths located at:

• Terminal 2 transit, Near Skytain to Terminal 3, Gate F50
• Terminal 3 transit, Near Transfer Lounge A, Gate A1-A8

Important Things To Note:

• Registration will close 1 hour before the tour start time and participants will be guided as a group to clear immigration before the tour starts.
• Availability of seats is on a first-come-first-serve basis.
• Transit passengers are allowed to enter and exit Singapore only once during their layover period, as per guidelines stipulated by Immigration & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore. Therefore, passengers are not able to join more than one tour.
• Tour itinerary is subject to changes, depending on weather and traffic conditions.
• Should you have cabin baggage, you are encouraged to leave them as Left Baggage counter located  here  prior to registration at the Free Singapore Tour booth.
• There are food sampling segments on some of the tour itineraries. If you have any food allergies, please take precautions and sign up at your own discretion. Please also inform the tour guide before the tour starts.

The best way to explore every nook and cranny of this tiny island-state is by foot , and the easiest way to understand a country is to meet locals who can share personal stories. So why not combine both walking around with meeting knowledgable locals with free walking tours in Singapore?

Singapore has it all, from heritage-rich exhibition spaces like the  National Museum of Singapore  to some of the most beautiful religious monuments like the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple . There is art, nature , shopping ,  off the beaten path destinations , Instagram-worthy sites and even several beaches . There are great indoor places to visit when it rains , camping spots to park a tent, cultural and historical museums , cooking classes with locals, and even a Jurassic Mile to walk along. 

Each neighborhood is so culturally diverse and packed with heritage that it would be a pity to explore them without knowing the deep history. From Chinatown to Little India to Tiong Bahru , there is so much more than meets the eye. Bukit Brown Cemetery

It may seem a bit odd to have a tour of a cemetery, but not here at Bukit Brown. For walking tours in Singapore, this is one of the most unique. The largest public Chinese cemetery outside of China in the early 20th century has 100,000 graves.

National Parks Board

This is for nature lovers and those who would like to get a break from the city. You will not only be out in the fresh air, surrounded by lush greenery, but will also learn a thing or two about Singapore’s very unique ecosystem. The cute mohican macaques are also a bonus for those who love animals. But do not feed them! Not only is it bad for them as they may become vicious after learning that food comes from humans, but if caught you’ll also be fine S$5,000.

Jane’s Walk

Changi Airport City Tours

Update in 2020: Changi free tours have stopped due to the pandemic. They will surely continue in the future when travel has opened back up. Keep checking here for updates.

So this is the perfect opportunity to understand Singapore’s diverse culture and history before you jet off to your next location.

Heritage Trails with NHB

Although all the tours are special in their own right, one of the Tampines Heritage Trails is a great last tour before you jet out of the country as it’s right next to Changi Airport. There are also different options depending on your creed from religious monuments to green spaces and the town itself.

Mount Faber and Sentosa with My Community

The reservoir around Mount Faber used to be a body of water where locals would go for a swim or even fish. But by the early 2000s it had completely disappeared off the map.

It was only in 2014 that National Heritage Board researchers came across the reservoir accidentally. As it remains zoned as a greenfield space it will most likely remain untouched and off the beaten path.

If this type of intrepid exploration excites you, then you should definitely contact non-profit My Community who provide free tours to abandoned and off-the-grid destinations around Mount Faber and Sentosa . Two of the standout places you can visit are the underground complex on Mount Faber that was built in 1936 to coordinate artillery batteries and Fort Serapong on Pulau Blakang Mati, or as it’s better known, Sentosa. Our go-to tour if you want our quick guide to Singapore’s history.

This is the walk where we will show you how Singapore changed from a fishing village to a colonial outpost to the shiny metropolis it is today. We will touch on the important events that shaped Singapore, and along the way you will see some of our most important monuments and some of the futuristic skyscrapers. We will try to share a bit more about where we go from here as well.

Tour Details

Book your slots for a guaranteed spot on our tours (registration is free and it helps make sure we have enough guides on the job). You are welcome to meet us at the meeting point without a reservation, but we cannot guarantee that you will be able to join us if the group is full.

These tours are FREE, but tips are welcome (our guides receive no other compensation or commissions).

We believe that tips given should be voluntary and in direct proportion to the quality of the tour and the budget of the traveler. Value for money goes a long way, and satisfied customers tip what they think the tour was worth!

We do not accept large group/organization bookings for our Free Tours, as they are intended for individual/small family signups only (max 5 persons/signup). They follow a set schedule and are not customizable. We place a limit on the number of sign ups per tour to ensure that everyone has a chance to go on the tour with us. Our aim is for our guests to have a more personal and intimate experience with us.

For larger groups and/or corporations, we recommend engaging us for our private customized paid tours . That way you can customize what you would like to see as well as set a date/time that is suitable for your group.

What to Expect

If places could talk! The Civic District is the area where you can see a lot of the buildings that are central to many events that have shaped Singapore to what it is today. As we walk down the Singapore River, we will share with you how Singapore went from a fishing village to a colonial outpost, and how we became the crown jewel of the British Empire in the East. We will also see sites where key events of the Second World War unfold… from the battle of Singapore to the occupation and eventual surrender of the Japanese Imperial Army. We will also see places which are integral to our road to independence, and some of our plans for the future as well.

Our tours will follow all current Safe Distancing Measures (SDM) as prescribed by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) during the Circuit Breaker (CB) period.

This will include limiting the number of guests allowed on each tour. Guest in one tour group may also have to be further divided into smaller sub groups with sub group size mandated by the current SDM

Service Counters Please stay in the transit area and do not clear immigration

• Terminal 2:  Level 2, Transit Area, (near Gate F50)
• Terminal 3:  Level 2, Transit Area, (near Gate A1 - A8)
• Other Terminals: Please take the skytrain within the Transit area and proceed to Terminal 3 for registration.

Required Documents Passport, boarding passes, entry visa (if applicable) and tour booking confirmation

Kindly note that 90   minutes  is set aside between Reporting Time and Tour Timing for the clearance of Arrival Immigration.

5 Adventurous Short Getaways from Singapore (Only a 2-hour Flight Away)

Try something out-of-the-ordinary that’ll get your heart pumping at these short getaways from Singapore!

“Typical destinations” near Singapore like Penang and Kuala Lumpur are popular for many reasons, mainly budget-friendly eating and shopping options. But did you know they also keep thrilling activities up their sleeve?

From overnight camping to horse-riding through mountains and beaches, here’s our list of short getaways from Singapore with adventurous things to do that you might not have heard of!

The best part is, they’re only 2 hours from Singapore, making it affordable and easy to commit to a quick out-of-the-country trip with your friends.

1) Go outdoor rock-climbing at an iconic landmark in Kuala Lumpur (1hr 10min flight)

Kuala Lumpur is one of the most popular short getaways from Singapore because of its proximity, affordability, and diverse attractions.

An iconic landmark here is the Batu Caves , a majestic limestone cave complex with Hindu temples and shrines. Many tourists come by to see the statue of the Hindu god, Lord Murugan, up close.

But a more exciting way to appreciate the caves? Climbing it! 🧗‍♀️

Behind the Batu Cave hill lies Gua Damai Extreme Park , an outdoor climbing site with over 100 routes across all difficulty levels. They also offer caving, trekking, and zip-lining — activities to test your threshold for thrills!

Then up the ante by walking on a glass platform 100ft from the ground at KL Tower Walk 100 … perhaps one of the most unique ways to appreciate a panoramic view of the cityscape.

Resorts World Genting SkyWorlds is also a must-visit for theme park lovers! It opened back in 2022 with attractions inspired by popular movies like Ice Age ,  Rio , and  Epic . Immerse yourself in the themed areas and get on adrenaline-pumping rides for a fun day of adventure.

This unique arts and culture hub is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it’s also a place to meet local artists and entrepreneurs. Our favourite shop here was BookXcess , which had picturesque floor-to-ceiling bookshelves.

2) Hike to see a clear view of the Milky Way in Phuket (1hr 45min flight)

Going on a hike near Phuket was one of the most pleasantly surprising things we did this year.

An hour-long car ride from Old Phuket Town to Phang Nga , followed by a 20-minute hike will lead you to the Samet Nangshe Viewpoint . While it’s a beautiful place to watch the sunrise, head out a few hours earlier and you might just see an unobstructed sky full of stars! 🌟

Who knew there’d be a banger view like that near the beach town?

If you want to admire the sunrise in a more exhilarating fashion, hop on a paramotor (motorised parachute) flight at Phuket Airpark . Just sit back, soar above the skies, and get a bird’s eye view of the pristine beaches and lush jungles Phuket is famous for.

Phuket is also well-known for its Phi Phi Islands and James Bond Island , which are usually crowded with tourists. For a better island-hopping experience with a smaller crowd, visit Similan Islands instead! Its main highlight is Island No. 8 (Similan Island), where you’ll have a stunning panoramic view of the sea atop Sail Rock.

Another activity to look forward to in Phuket is the Selfie Experience Phuket . It’s the biggest selfie museum in Asia with over 40 photobooths, and that means many opportunities to take cute photos with your friends. Themes include supersized claw machines, giant colourful ball pits, and a wall of donuts. They even let you wear fun costumes!

*Note: They’re currently in the process of relocating, so when they re-open in August , expect to try even more fun booths!

3) Explore the lush rainforest through various thrilling activities in Penang (1hr 20min flight)

When someone says “Penang”, what comes to mind first? Is it the beaches, street art, cheap food, colonial architecture… or an adventure through the rainforest?

The Habitat Penang Hill is an eco-park that’s home to over 2,500 species of flora and fauna, with many activities for visitors to experience the beauty of the island’s rainforest.

There are tree-top/canopy walks, the signature zipline course called the Flight of the Colugo Zipline Experience , and an immersive VR experience exploring the African savannah and the oceans.

*Note: The Flight of the Colugo full zipline experience is currently under maintenance until further notice. But visitors can still experience the first quarter of the experience in groups of 8 to 10 pax.

They also hold monthly starlight camping and weekly forest bathing experiences where a guide will help you consciously connect with nature by exposing you to the most tranquil parts of The Habitat’s rainforest!

If that isn’t thrilling enough, visit The TOP Penang located in Komtar Tower to scratch your itch for adventure. Walk on the glass-bottomed Rainbow Skywalk — 68 floors above the ground — for a rewarding view of George Town . Or go on the world’s highest rope course where you’ll walk, climb, and balance 239m up the tower.

Penang has even more unique attractions such as their plethora of quirky museums. These include the horror-themed Ghost Museum , the Glass Museum which offers glass-making lessons, and Magic World , where you’ll learn what goes on behind magic tricks.

For something more traditional, visit one of the farms and conservatories in the area. From guided fruit farm tours to Entopia by Penang Butterfly Farm , it’s a good way to appreciate Penang’s natural wonders in a more laid-back manner.

4) Ride horses through the jungle and beach in Langkawi (1hr 30min flight)

No, you don’t have to fly all the way to Europe just to go horseback riding across scenic landscapes.

Only a 1 hour and 30-minute flight away, Langkawi is one of the short getaways from Singapore that can give you a taste of equestrian living. Island Horses allows you to leisurely ride on expertly-trained horses through a rainforest, jungle streams, and beaches — even if you’ve never done it before!

And if you’re more experienced, consider trotting over rolling mountain hills or through kampung villages to have a glimpse of the locals’ everyday life.

Another unique way to traverse through Langkawi is on a guided jet ski tour ! It’s a more thrilling way to get around compared to a traditional island-hopping tour.

On the tour, watch the live feeding of eagles at Pulau Singa Besar and see the Lake of the Pregnant Maiden — whose waters are rumoured to have the power to increase fertility in women.

But there’s more to Langkawi than its islands. Go on a scenic mangrove forest tour at Kilim Geoforest Park , the first UNESCO-endorsed geopark in Southeast Asia. You might even see some of the archipelago’s famous Brahminy Kite eagles !

Langkawi is also home to 3D Art in Paradise Langkawi , a unique interactive museum featuring 100+ artworks. Here, you become part of the art thanks to some optical illusion magic.

Pose for some photos in different themed “zones”, such as the Egyptian Zone with mummies and the Aquarium Zone with humpback whales.

5) Camp overnight with fun rides & experiences in Ipoh (1hr 10min flight)

Ipoh is known for its lively food and shopping scene, but did you know it’s also home to many outdoor adventures?

ESCAPE Ipoh is a new jungle theme park that recently opened in April 2024, and is an offshoot of the famous ESCAPE Penang . With over 30 rides and attractions, expect thrilling water slides and adventurous rope activities (like zip coasters and obstacle courses) that you wouldn’t normally see on Malaysia’s west coast.

Also try going on a camping experience in the park. It’s the whole she-bang with tents, BBQ, campfire, and a blanket of stars.

If the campgrounds aren’t enough to satisfy your thirst for nature, hike up the 800m-high hills of Bukit Kledang — the highest peak in Ipoh. It has many trails spanning different difficult levels, but the popular 90-minute 2-4 Trail leads you to a wicked sunrise view.

A different kind of thrill awaits you in the unfinished, and possibly haunted Kellie’s Castle . Throughout the years, visitors claimed to have seen ghosts in the eerie structure, including the spirit of its commissioner roaming its hallways and a 6-year-old girl wearing a blouse. Visit at your own risk!

Then wind down from your weekend in Ipoh by heading to the Old Town: a vibrant area with shopping streets and buildings from the British colonial era.

This is also where some famous food spots are located, like Thean Chun Coffee Shop and Nam Heong . Don’t forget to try Ipoh’s famous white coffee when you’re here!
