The IXS Master 2-layer Gore-Tex laminate motorcycle jacket features an integrated storm hood on the neck and a lightweight 2-layer outer material. It also offers a breathable mesh lining with a water barrier and a 3D mesh lining in the back area for improved air circulation. A removable thermal lining gives versatility for cooler conditions, and this also comes with a waterproof, integrated storm hood to prevent water ingress. Double material in vulnerable areas provides exceptional impact resistance along with shoulder and height-adjustable elbow protectors impacTec TP-02, EN1621-1:2012, CE Level 2 and a back protector impacTec TP-06, EN1621-2:2014, Level 2. Adjustability on the elbows, upper arms and cuffs, as well as the waist with Velcro and elastic drawstring on the hem, gives the perfect custom fit. A waterproof comfort cuff allows for ease of use while wearing gloves. A plethora of pockets (five outside pockets, two inside pockets in the mesh lining, one Napoleon pocket and three inside pockets in the thermal lining) provide excellent storage. The Master-GTX Tour jacket also offers six ventilation openings on the chest and back area for exceptional air circulation in warmer conditions. Reflective detailing maximises night visibility, and this also offers a connection zip with the unique IXS magnetic connection system (iMC system).

Essai – Veste et pantalon iXS Tour Master-GTX

Dans le cadre de nos essais longue durée qui se déroulent tout au long de cet hiver, j’ai l’occasion de tester la veste et le pantalon iXS Tour Master-GTX, sur de nombreux kilomètres.

Au moment de choisir l’équipement, le cahier des charges a le mérite d’être simple et clair. En plus d’offrir un haut niveau de sécurité à son utilisateur, il doit être performant par tous les temps, toutes les températures qu’un bon hiver peut offrir. La qualité de sa présentation est aussi un point important puisqu’il figurera sur de nombreuses prises de vue. Ces critères doivent bien sûr s’appliquer pour les vêtements faisant l’objet de cet essai, la veste et le pantalon iXS Tour Master-GTX.

La maison Hostettler (propriétaire de la marque suisse iXS) n’a pas hésité à nous proposer cet ensemble, le dernier né de la production iXS. Le fabricant le présente dans un communiqué de presse comme un équipement qui conviendra pour tous les tours sur les terrains les plus divers et dans toutes les conditions météo. C’est bien ce que nous allons voir.

Pour toutes morphologies

La veste et le pantalon sont proposés dans un éventail de tailles allant de S à 5XL. Au moment de l’essayage je constate que le fabricant à songé à toutes les morphologies au moment de créer cet équipement. En effet, au niveau de la veste, on trouve un réglage par Velcro de la largeur au coude, au bras, sur le poignet mais aussi à la taille. La largeur au niveau de l’ourlet se règle par un cordon élastique. Quant au pantalon, son tour de taille est flexible par un ajustement de pas moins de 6 cm par côté. La largeur au niveau de la jambe est aussi réglable.

Des bretelles amovibles équipent le pantalon. L’ensemble peut être relié au niveau du dos par une fermeture ZIP.

iXS Magnetic Connection

Chez iXS, on a pensé qu’il fallait aller encore plus loin ; c’est pourquoi un système de fermeture rapide a été développé et breveté sous le doux nom de iXS Magnetic Connection (iMC). Une sangle de chaque côté parcourt le dos, longe les épaules et enfin relie le blouson au pantalon par une judicieuse fermeture rapide magnétique.

Riche dotation

Au niveau des poches, là aussi on a pensé à tout chez iXS, en rendant presque superflue toute bagagerie sur votre moto. La veste comprend 5 poches extérieures, 3 poches intérieures tandis que trois autres sont proposées dans la doublure thermique amovible. Le pantalon dispose de 2 poches avec fermeture par ZIP.

Le stratifié Gore-Tex à 2 couches assure une barrière à l’humidité et la pluie. L’épaule ainsi que le coude reçoivent une double couche de matériaux. À l’intérieur, blouson et pantalon sont équipés d’un filet respirant et imperméable ainsi que d’une doublure thermique amovible. La partie dorsale est encore pourvue d’un rembourrage en filet 3D.

Notons encore qu’au niveau du poignet une manchette assure l’étanchéité et qu’une capuche tempête intégrée au col protège le cou en cas de pluie.

Confortable

Il est maintenant temps de vérifier si cette sophistication tient ses promesses. C’est au chaud que j’enfile l’entier de mon équipement, y compris le casque et les gants, afin de ne rien refroidir. Grâce aux multiples réglages proposés je me sens tout de suite à l’aise dans cet ensemble Tour Master-GTX. Il offre un réel confort et assure toute la mobilité nécessaire à la conduite de la moto. Les bordures antidérapantes m’assurent un bon maintien sur la selle.

6000 km dans le froid

Tout au long des 6000 kilomètres effectués à ce jour avec cet équipement je n’ai pas eu à subir les morsures du froid. L’isolation thermique permet de rouler longtemps même par des températures hivernales. Je ne suis pas en train de dire que je n’ai jamais ressenti le froid, mais simplement que le Tour Master-GTX m’a permis de continuer ma route dans d’excellentes conditions, durant de longues heures, sans que je ne sois transi, même lorsque l’aiguille du thermomètre restait scotchée dans la négativité.

La qualité de fabrication se confirme par une multitude de détails comme les aimants assurant une fermeture hermétique au niveau du col, la double fermeture principale par glissières ou les petites lanières permettant l’ouverture et la fermeture des poches tout en gardant ses gants. Les bretelles amovibles offrent un réel plus en matière de confort, évitant tout courant impromptu sur le bas du dos.

Je reviens sur le système iXS Magnetic Connection, qui, s’il est ingénieux et innovant, n’est pas utilisable si vous avez revêtu un pullover venant par-dessus le pantalon; un cas de figure fréquent en hiver!

Par temps humide, l’étanchéité semble assurée. L’eau ne pénètre pas le matériau, elle ruisselle sur le revêtement. Je précise que jusqu’à présent je n’ai pas eu à essuyer de grosses précipitations, mais plutôt de fréquentes averses de pluie ou de neige. À ce stade, je n’ai pas ressenti la moindre infiltration ou sensation d’humidité.

Ventilation

L’ensemble Tour Master-GTX dispose de nombreuses ouvertures d’aération ; six sur le devant et le dos de la veste et 2 sur la cuisse. Sur certaines, on trouve une pression assurant une ouverture maximale. Mais ne m’en veuillez pas si je vous dis que je n’ai pas testé à ce jour leur réelle efficacité !

Au niveau de la sécurité, tout semble être mis en œuvre afin d’assurer une protection maximale. La veste et le pantalon sont doublés aux points de chutes et assurés par des coutures doubles, tandis que les protections CE sont de dernière génération. Les genoux, les hanches, les coudes, les épaules et le dos sont ainsi protégés. De plus, genoux et coudes sont réglables en hauteur alors que la dorsale est bien sûr amovible.
