THE PIPE TRACK

The Pipe Track is famous for its beauty and tranquility and is known as one of the most enjoyable hikes in Cape Town.

DISTANCE: +/- 6km TIME: 3 hours DIFFICULTY: Easy TERRAIN: Level – single rocky track, jeep track, few stone stairs.

NEWLANDS FOREST HIKE

There’s so much to do in this natural pine forest just 15 minutes from the CBD. Situated on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, Newlands Forest is a favourite among walkers, trail runners, leisurely strollers, die-hard hikers, nature lovers, picnickers and tourists looking to get into nature without having to venture far from the city centre.

PLATTEKLIP GORGE

Platteklip Gorge is by far the most popular, and busiest Table Mountain hiking route taking you to the top of Table Mountain. Although this is the fastest route up Table Mountain, it is for sure not the easiest route. A relatively good fitness level is required to hike this route to the summit.

CONSTANTIA CORNER RIDGE

Constantia Corner is a quick and easy hike, with some fun scrambles and a jungle gym of boulders at the top. But it also offers fabulous views over the Peninsula and much less foot traffic. It’s an ideal route for cold or windy days, as it’s sunny and surprisingly well-protected from all but the worst southeasters.

SUTHER PEAK HOUTBAY

From Sandy Bay beach, Suther resembles a crumbling, crenellated watchtower on the skyline of Karbonkelberg; on top it’s a precarious but sublime perch for morning tea.

TERRAIN  Steep single rocky track, rock scrambling, tree climb , narrow cracks and exposure.

TRANQUILITY CRACKS

This hiking route takes us up and down the 12 Apostles to Tranquillity Cracks. On this route, we explore the secret hidden gems of the Table Mountain range.

SKELETON GORGE

The Skeleton Gorge hike takes you through shaded, indigenous forest up the Eastern slopes of Table Mountain, and summits at Maclear’s Beacon, the highest point on Table Mountain. 1086m above sea level.

DISTANCE: +/-6.5km TIME: +-5 hours DIFFICULTY: Challenging TERRAIN: Single rocky track, stone steps, steep sections, ladders, minor scrambles.

INDIA VENSTER

India Venster is one of Table Mountain’s greatest hikes, filled with fun and adventure. India Venster is well known for it’s rock scrambles and magnificent views over the city and Atlantic coastline.

TIME: 3 hours DISTANCE: +- 3km DIFFICULTY: Challenging TERRAIN: Single rocky track, stone steps, scrambling sections

KLOOF CORNER RIDGE

This is a 3-4 hours hike on Table Mountain offering steep, scrambling sections as well as three sets of chains which require rock-scrambling (about 7-10m).

If Coron isn’t already in your travel plans, then you better look again! Coron is a smaller, quieter, pristine version of El Nido. Just like its neighbor, Coron has natural wonders that defy logic and make you question reality. Swim through   underwater mountains, visit hidden lagoons, snorkel over otherworldly reefs, lounge on baby powder sand beaches – the adventures never stop. The truth is Coron is a much more diverse and action packed area for adventure travel.

What used to be a sleepy fishing town is now slowly waking up to welcome tourists to explore. This means that adventures on Coron are less crowded, less expensive, and less spoiled than   almost every other island area you may have   visited in South East Asia.  

WHERE IS CORON?

Technically there are two Coron   Philippines, one is actually the name of the   largest town on Busuanga island and the other Coron is a smaller island just to the south of   Coron Town. Coron makes up the eastern half of Busuanga Island. Coron Town used to be a small fishing   village with a population is just over 40,000 but now is becoming more and more of a popular tourist destination. Coron is often listed as one   of the top tourist places in the Philippines.  

TRAVELING TO CORON

The quickest way to get on the island is to fly, Cebu Pacific and Philippines Airlines run flights several times each day from Manila. When you arrive by plane all of the local van drivers know the flight schedules and they will be waiting at the airport to take you to Coron Town.

There is a ferry that runs from Manila and Puerto Princesa to Coron. The ferry from Manila to Coron is 15 hours and runs twice a week, the journey from Puerto Princesa to Coron also takes 15 hours. The same boat company then runs from Coron back to Manila or Puerta Princesa which is the getaway to El Nido, there are tons of things to do in El Nido we highly recommend adding El Nido to your Philippines travel plans.

ACCOMMODATION

Green Gecko Hostel has all the necessities for a comfortable stay. There are two dorms and several bamboo huts at the beach. All of them have fans and mosquito nets. We have free WIFI and a bar full of cold drinks.
