Entry requirements.

This advice reflects the UK government’s understanding of current rules for people travelling on a full ‘British citizen’ passport from the UK for the most common types of travel. 

The authorities in Saudi Arabia set and enforce entry rules. If you’re not sure how these requirements apply to you, contact the Saudi Embassy in the UK . 

COVID-19 rules 

There are no COVID-19 testing or vaccination requirements for travellers entering Saudi Arabia.

Passport validity requirements 

Your passport must have an ‘expiry date’ at least 6 months after the date you arrive. 

Check with your travel provider that your passport and other travel documents meet requirements. Renew your passport if you need to.  

You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen. 

Previous travel to Israel 

You may not be allowed to enter Saudi Arabia if your passport shows that you have travelled to, or were born, in Israel. 

Visa requirements 

You must get an e-visa or an electronic visa waiver (EVW) either before you travel or on arrival at any of Saudi Arabia’s international airports. The type of e-visa or EVW you choose depends on your reason for travelling and how long you want to stay.

If you overstay your visa, you could face large fines, detention and deportation. You could be banned from returning to Saudi Arabia.  

Applying for an e-visa 

You can apply for an e-visa if you are a tourist. You must get an e-visa to perform Umrah. 

E-visas are: 

• valid for 365 days from the date of issue 
• for visits of up to 90 days 
• for multiple entries  

Apply online or on arrival at any of Saudi Arabia’s international airports.  

You will need a separate visa for Hajj. See Pilgrimage . 

Applying for an electronic visa waiver (EVW) 

You can apply for an electronic visa waiver (EVW) if you’re travelling for: 

• medical treatment 
• Umrah (outside of Hajj Season)

An EVW allows you to enter Saudi Arabia once and stay for up to 6 months.  

Apply online for an EVW at least 48 hours before your flights, or up to 90 days in advance. You will need to give your flight details.

Travelling overland  

Your visa may only allow you to enter Saudi Arabia by air. If you plan to travel to Saudi Arabia by the Bahrain causeway, check your visa before travelling. Ask your travel agent or the Saudi Embassy if you need help. 

Travelling through Saudi Arabia 

If you’re transferring through Saudi Arabia, you may need a transit visa if: 

• you will pass through immigration control 
• you will leave Saudi Arabia on a separate ticket to the one you arrive on 
• the connecting time between your flights is more than 12 hours 

Check with your airline or travel agency if you require a transit visa.

Exit, re-entry and final exit permits 

If you live in Saudi Arabia, you must get an exit or re-entry permit from your sponsor to leave and re-enter the country. If you leave Saudi Arabia on a final exit permit, you must apply for a new visa to return to the country.  

Wives and children of Saudi nationals 

If you’re a woman married to a Saudi national, you must get a re-entry or final exit permit from your husband to leave Saudi Arabia. This also applies to children of Saudi nationals.

Flight restrictions around Hajj 

If you plan to travel around the time of the Hajj pilgrimage, check with your airline for any flight restrictions. 

The Saudi authorities have stopped visitors who are not performing Hajj from flying to Jeddah, Madinah and Taif. You may need a Hajj visa to board flights to these places during Hajj.  

You will still be able to enter Saudi Arabia through other airports.

Vaccination requirements  

At least 8 weeks before your trip, check the vaccinations and certificates you need in TravelHealthPro’s Saudi Arabia guide . 

Depending on your circumstances, these may include: 

• a yellow fever vaccination certificate  
• meningococcal quadrivalent vaccine

Customs rules 

There are strict rules about goods you can take into or out of Saudi Arabia. You must declare anything that may be prohibited or subject to tax or duty. 

It is illegal to import: 

• pork and pork products 
• pornographic material 
• distillery equipment 
• re-treaded or used tyres  
• used clothing except for personal use  

certain sculptures such as religious symbols     Other items may be examined, including:

You may need to special approval to bring: 

• agricultural seeds

You may need a licence for:

British citizens can visit Saudi Arabia with minimal requirements, among nationalities and visit visa holders identified by the country.

With Saudi Arabia setting its sights on boosted tourism, how can British citizens apply for a Saudi visa from the UK? What procedures are involved and what are the requirements? Where can they submit documents? In this article, we share the different ways they can obtain a Saudi visa from the UK.

Eligibility

As mentioned, British citizens are privileged to have minimal requirements when applying for a Saudi visit visa. The good news is that this also applies to permanent residents of the UK.

UK citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply for a Saudi e-visa as well as a Saudi visa on arrival, to perform tourism activities in Saudi Arabia. What is an e-visa and how easy is it for travelers to apply for it? What are the requirements? Let’s explore them in the next sections.

As mentioned, UK citizens and residents are among those eligible to apply for a Saudi visa, and they can either apply for an e-visa or a visa on arrival. What is this process like and what are the steps involved? Read on to learn more.

Option 1: Saudi e-visa

The Saudi e-visa program, launched in September 2019, makes it easier for citizens from eligible countries such as the US to secure a Saudi visa. It allows foreign nationals entry into Saudi Arabia for various purposes such as tourism, business, and even Umrah.

Apart from eligible nationalities (including dual citizens from eligible countries), permanent residents in the US, EU, or the UK; holders of visit visas (Schengen, US, UK); and residents in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates).

Application

Now that you know what an e-visa is, it’s time to go through the steps to apply for it.

All the UK visa holder needs to do is visit Saudi Arabia’s easy-to-use portal, sign up for an account, provide their UK visa information as well as their personal and passport information, pay for the insurance and visa application fees, and just wait for the e-visa to be e-mailed.

The Saudi e-visa will be valid for one year from the date of issuance and it will be valid for multiple entries. You can stay for a total of 3 months or 90 days in Saudi Arabia, as long as your UK visa is still valid during your stay. Note that once you are granted a Saudi e-visa, it cannot be extended.

The cost of the Saudi e-visa will vary depending on the purpose of the travel, but for tourism purposes, the Saudi tourist e-visa costs SAR 535 (USD 142.64). As mentioned, the fee already includes the fee for the medical insurance selected during the e-visa application process. Note that the payment must be made in Saudi Riyals with an international debit or credit card.

Note that the visa fees are non-refundable in case the e-visa is rejected.

Processing time

Now that you’ve completed your online visa application form, it’s time to wait. The processing time can take anywhere between 1 minute to 3 business days. You’ll know if your visa has been approved once you receive an e-mail from KSA Visa.

What’s great about the Saudi e-visa is that it already covers tourism-related activities and Umrah (excluding Hajj season). This means that UK visa holders can apply for an e-visa in case they are planning to travel to Saudi Arabia for tourism, to visit family and friends, to seek medical treatment, or for business. The e-visa already covers these different travel purposes.

Option 2: Visa on arrival

The next easy and convenient option is the visa on arrival issued upon a foreign national’s entry into a country. Note that although it is a quick and easy way to get a Saudi visa, it might be more practical to apply for a Saudi e-visa ahead of time to avoid any surprises at the airport.

Similar to the e-visa, those who hold eligible citizenship (including dual citizens); have active US, UK, or Schengen visit visas; are permanent residents of the US, UK, or the EU; as well as GCC nationals or residents can avail of a Saudi visa on arrival.

The Saudi visa on arrival is valid for 1 year from its issuance date. The multiple-entry visa on arrival is valid for 1 year from the date of issuance. It allows the traveler to stay for a maximum of 90 days.

Option 3: Transit/Stopover Visa

There’s another way you can easily enter Saudi Arabia: the Saudi transit or stopover visa , which is open to all nationalities. It allows travelers to pass through Saudi land borders, airports, or ports. This is probably not the most ideal option for all, but it’s a good option if you are staying for less than four days in Saudi Arabia.

Travelers may opt to apply for a transit/stopover visa via Saudi Arabia’s Saudia or Flynas airlines by booking two flights with a suitable layover of between 12 to 96 hours. While the transit/stopover visa is free, it is still subject to administrative and medical insurance fees. Alternatively, travelers may apply for a standard transit/stopover visa via KSA Visa.

How much does a Saudi tourist visa cost from the UK?

If I have a Saudi tourist visa, can I visit Makkah and Al Madinah?

Can I apply for another tourist visa? You may not apply for another tourist visa if you are currently under a valid Saudi tourist visa. You may re-apply for a new tourist visa once the current one expires.

What should I wear while I’m in Saudi Arabia?

Both men and women should dress modestly while in Saudi Arabia, otherwise they potentially face penalties. Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothes or clothes displaying profane language or images. Women should cover their shoulders and knees when in public.

Generally, wearing long, loose tops, long pants or trousers, or long skirts up to the ankle is safe. The only time you should not abide by this rule is when the situation calls for different attire, such as when swimming. Similarly, choose to wear modest swimming attire.

Who sets the Saudi visa price

All Saudi visa fees are set by the  MOFA  (ministry of foreign affairs) in Riyadh. The price is based on the applicant nationality, visa type, duration and number of entries.

When you start your  Saudi visa application , you will be required to obtain an invitation from the Saudi Arabian chamber of commerce, this will state the duration, number of entries and visa types which will dictate the cost of your price. Please note that the prices indicated on this page are for the visa fees which can only be submitted in London.

Enjaz and Visa Medical Fee

This is the price charged by the Saudi Arabian government during the  enjazit  system application when it is created by us. It automatically charges a registration fee, an application fee and the  medical insurance fees . These are calculated automatically. The  Saudi insurance policy  aligned to your Saudi visa is then sent back with your passport application.

Arab British Chamber of commerce Fees

If applying for  a business visa for Saudi Arabia , then the  employer support letter  is attested by the ABCC, where they verify the UK company registration. They charge a fee for validating the UK company, stamping it which is a mandatory step before submitting the application for a business visa to the  Saudi embassy in London . In order to apply for a UK visit visa from Saudi Arabia, you need to fill out an application, submit the required documents and pay the fee. Here is the process;

Fill out the UK visa application

The UK visit visa is also called a standard visitor visa. The first step to applying for the UK Visa from Saudi Arabia is to fill out a long visa application using this link and register your account with the website.

One visa application form needs to be filled out for each passport holder.  You need all the following information to fill out your UK visa application from Saudi Arabia.

• Home and Office Address in Saudi Arabia.
• Address and other details of the person who is inviting you to the UK (if any).
• Full name and Date of Birth of your Parents
• Total Salary Package
• Phone Number of the HR person in your office. 
• Travel history of the last 10 years.

Requirements for the UK visa

After filling out the application to apply for the UK visit visa from Saudi Arabia, you need to upload the following documents. 

• UK Visa Application Form (explained above).
• Passport with a validity of 6 months.
• Salary Certificate from the employer.
• Bank Statements for the preceding 6 months.

There is no need to bring any photographs of the applicants to apply for the UK Visit Visa from Saudi Arabia.

If you are going to the UK on the invitation of an individual in the UK, you will have to provide the following documentation from the side of the inviter. 

• Salary Certificates from the employer.
• Complete Home Address.
• Bank Statement for the preceding 6 months.
• Copy of the Resident Identity Card.
• Copy of the Passport.

The UK Visa Fee from Saudi Arabia is USD 131.00 for a 6-month visa. Remember that the UK visa fee is non-refundable in case of refusal.

The appointment for the VFS office can only be confirmed after paying the UK Visa Fees from Saudi Arabia. You can pay it online using either your credit card or PayPal account.

What if the UK Visa is refused?

In case of refusal, you should check the refusal letter and find out if the chance to appeal has been given to you.

Generally, the UK immigration officer forfeits the right to appeal from the applicant. In that case, you cannot do anything but apply for the visa again once your situation has improved.

Minimum bank balance

If the balance of your bank statement is £10,000 maintained throughout the period of 6 months, you are more likely to be accepted for the UK visa.

Do I Need Visa for Saudi Arabia?

The short answer is yes, you do. Like many other countries in Asia such as Cambodia or Thailand, KSA needs the citizens of most countries in the world to come with a visa. And now that we are talking about it, getting a Cambodia visa or visa for Thailand is much simpler than a visa for KSA.

Depending on teh purpose of your stay in the KSA, different Saudi visa types are available. Some of them can be applied online and some of them can only be obtained in a KSA consulate.

1. Saudi Arabia eVisa

Citizens of 51 countries/territories can obtain eVisas online or on arrival to Saudi Arabia. The KSA eVisa comes with a validity of 90 days.
