Blake Shelton

Kenny chesney, megan moroney, post malone extends 'f-1 trillion' project with nine additional solo tracks, trending on billboard.

‘This’ is more than a decade in which Old Dominion’s members have established themselves as hit writers behind hit songs for Chesney, Craig Morgan, Chris Young and other artists, but also as purveyors of their own hits, including their debut single “Break Up With Him,” the dreamy, romantic “One Man Band” and the liquor-fueled, post-breakup kiss-off “On a Boat that Day.” They’ve earned seven Billboard Country Airplay No. 1 hits, won five CMA vocal group of the year honors (they are the reigning winners in the category and up for the same honor this year) and six ACM group of the year statues, while also scoring a Grammy nomination and two Top Country Albums chart-toppers.

With the group’s new album, Memory Lane , out Friday (Oct. 6), band members Ramsey, Brad Tursi, Trevor Rosen, Geoff Sprung and Whit Sellers aim to add to their chart-topping status.

Just weeks into the tour, the onstage spontaneity hammered out from years of road-dogging and playing gigs ranging from clubs to stadiums is readily apparent.

The band recently shared footage and photos of heart-tugging audience interactions from the tour on social media. During one show, Old Dominion aided in an audience member’s baby gender reveal, and later welcomed a woman who had been battling cancer to join them onstage to sing a song from their fan-favorite album Meow Mix . During another show, the group welcomed a young boy onstage to sing with the band.

“At the time, we didn’t realize his full story,” Ramsey says. “We found out later that he had some hearing impairment problems that he had overcome, and it was pretty cool to have him onstage. The same night as the gender reveal, was the night that the woman who was battling cancer just wanted to sing ‘Meow Mix’ with us, so we’re meowing and crying at the same time.”

“No matter what venue we are playing, we try to make it as intimate as possible,” says bassist/vocalist Sprung. “We just try to be authentically us, and when we see moments like that that show us our music is affecting somebody, it’s pretty great.”

Their approach to making albums has progressed, too. While their early albums were crafted piecemeal, slotting in recording sessions between tour dates, they took a different approach with their 2022 project Time, Tequila and Therapy , decamping to Asheville, North Carolina and steeping themselves in writing and recording.

That ethos rings true on their new album. Sonically, Memory Lane ranges from the remorseful “Both Sides of the Bed,” to the vivid swirl of lyrics on “Different About You,” such as “Don’t nobody want to be the yellow Starburst/Everybody reaching for the cherry first.”

“I have a good friend who works with inner-city, underprivileged kids and she became attached to this one young girl, [who] was dating a guy who wasn’t abusing her or anything, but she wasn’t getting the love and affirmation she needed. And she had said, ‘I don’t want to be your yellow Starburst.’ I knew exactly what she meant, and I wrote it down. Sometimes a whole song just hinges on one line.”

Another album track, the free-spirited “Some Horses,” marks the first song Old Dominion has ever recorded that they didn’t have a hand in writing (the song comes courtesy of two of the band’s longtime musical collaborators, Matt Jenkins and writer-producer Shane McAnally). But the group has been familiar with the song for more than a decade.

“They wrote it back when we were just trying to all struggle and be successful songwriters, playing writer’s rounds and things,” Ramsey says. “It was written in third person, but one day, I was talking with Trevor about songs we loved and that song came up. Then I was at home the morning before we went into the studio to work on the album and I started playing the song and just changed it to first person, because I identified with it so much more. We talked to Shane and texted Matt and said, ‘Do you mind if we change the song a bit?’ They said ‘yes’ and we gave it a shot.”

“We had that song for probably three years now,” says Ramsey, who wrote “Can’t Break Up Now” with Rosen, Tofer Brown and Emily Weisband. “We talked about what kind of partner we would want in that — there was a million ideas and we never could quite land on one that we agreed on really. Then Megan shows up with ‘Tennessee Orange.’ She’s such a unique voice and so confident in who she is at this early stage in her career. It just seemed like the right fit. Luckily, she was interested in recording it.”

Elsewhere, Blake Shelton joins on “Ain’t Got a Worry.” “He’s been telling us that we’re his favorite band for years and years and years,” says lead guitarist/vocalist Tursi with a sly grin. “He finally was like, ‘You guys, let’s do a song together’ — so we sent him a few things and he liked that one. We happened to be in the same studio at Ocean Way [in Nashville], recording some other songs, so we hopped over and he sang the vocal.”

With the release of Memory Lane , the band is ready to introduce new songs into their live shows, bolstering their already deep catalog of hits with a new batch to further expand the ties between artist and audience.

“It’s like how Jimmy Buffett built his world and Kenny built his world,” says Ramsey. “We’re trying to build a whole culture when fans come to our shows.”

My daughter and I went to see them. Amazing! So good live, vocals spot on and the live music fantastic, what artists! 3rd time I've seen them. Didn't realise what successful song writers they are for other well known singers. Love them to bits, if I could ever afford to I'd take my daughter to Nashville to see them play.

Old Dominion Announces 2023 No Bad Vibes Headlining Tour

Hitmaking group Old Dominion had a very special announcement during their Monday night performance at Whiskey Jam: their highly anticipated NO BAD VIBES TOUR is set to kick off in the spring of 2023.

Sharing the exciting news to a packed crowd in the parking lot of Loser’s Bar and Grill in Nashville, the reigning CMA Vocal Group of the Year – who got their start as regular performers on the iconic Whiskey Jam stage – was joined by Shawn Austin, Greylan James, Kassi Ashton and Frank Ray where they announced they each will be opening acts on the tour. Ray, Ashton & James will all be supporting the United States dates while Ray, Austin, and Steven Lee Olson will be supporting the Canadian dates.

This is not the first time the multi-Platinum selling band has surprised fans; Previously, they have stopped at intimate venues across the country where they held a series of exclusive, free pop-up shows. Considering it as making up for lost time during the pandemic, Old Dominion continued to do what they love and perform for fans all around the nation.

Following the heels of a very successful run on Kenny Chesney’s Here and Now 2022 Tour – where Old Dominion opened the show at twenty-three stadiums over the summer – their headlining tour is set to kick off January 19, 2023 at the Ford Center in Evansville, IN and end on July 30th in Lake Tahoe, NV.

With five ACM Group of the Year awards to date, the band’s frontman Matthew Ramsey said, “At an Old Dominion show, I think we just want people to feel happy.  They should feel like they got to forget about whatever is bothering them or whatever’s weighing them down in that point in time.  Just come and hangout with us, and escape for a couple hours.  Then hopefully they walk out feeling a little lighter than when they walked in.”

ISIS and al Qaeda material found at home of second suspect in foiled Taylor Swift concert attack

Updated on: August 8, 2024 / 7:57 PM EDT / CBS/AP

Authorities found Islamic State group and al Qaeda material at the home of the second suspect in a foiled plot to attack the Taylor Swift Eras Tour shows in Austria, which were canceled on Wednesday. No other suspects are being sought, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said in Vienna on Thursday.

"The situation was serious, the situation is serious. But we can also say: A tragedy was prevented," Karner said.

The second suspect, a 17-year-old Austrian citizen with Turkish and Croatian roots, was arrested by special police forces near the stadium where the concerts were supposed to take place this week, Austrian security authorities said. A 19-year-old Austrian was also arrested.

Austrian security officials alleged the two young men — whose names were not released in line with Austrian privacy rules — wanted to commit an attack outside the stadium, killing as many people as possible using knives or self-made explosives.

The main suspect, a 19-year-old Austrian with North Macedonian roots, fully confessed his attack plans, the security officials said at a press conference in Vienna. They also said he was "clearly radicalized in the direction of the Islamic State and thinks it is right to kill infidels."

The second suspect was employed a few days ago by a facility company providing services at the venue during the concerts. Investigators said they found extensive material related to ISIS and al Qaeda at his home.

A CBS News analysis of ISIS propaganda from the last six months showed the group promoted attacks on targets in Europe, particularly sports stadiums. In posts throughout the spring and summer of 2024, ISIS-K, the Afghan branch of ISIS, encouraged followers to target stadiums in London, Madrid, and Paris, as they host large gatherings including the Olympic Games, football games, and concerts.

Lucas Webber of the Soufan Center told CBS News in an interview that the group often ramps up its propaganda before large events.

Europol said it took down one of the group's other propaganda networks in June, in coordination with the FBI. "They were used to disseminate worldwide propaganda and messages capable of inciting terrorism in at least thirty languages," Europol said.

The cancellations of three sold-out concerts this week devastated Swifties across the globe, many of whom had spent thousands of euros on travel and lodging in Austria's expensive capital city for the sold-out Eras Tour shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Ernst Happel Stadium, which sat empty Thursday morning aside from media filming outside.

Austria Taylor Swift

One social media user named Sarah wrote she had been "waiting to see taylor in my home country since i was 9 years old, i'm now 25... to have all this taken away by some men being so fueled by hatred for no reason at all makes me so beyond angry i can't put it into words."

Event organizer Barracuda Music said "all tickets will be automatically refunded within the next 10 business days." The same wording was posted under the Vienna dates on Swift's official website.

"I won't be able to see Taylor again with these resale prices so I am pretty devastated," another social media user named Caroline said . "This was supposed to be my 'you beat cancer' trip so losing it hurts."

Other fans in Vienna found moments of comfort together after the concerts were canceled.

"Thank you lovely church in #vienna that played Taylor swift songs the day of the first cancelled concert and gave lots of sad swifties a place to gather," social media user kristi hovington wrote , posting a video of fans in the church. "Thanks to the police for keeping us all safe!"

About 100 fans of all ages gathered on a Vienna street on Thursday to sing the Taylor Swift song "Long Live," which has the lyric "I'm not afraid." With some fans in tears, they exchanged friendship bracelets, and their singing could be heard from blocks away.

Some fans started looking for tickets to Taylor Swift's upcoming London performances, which are scheduled to take place between August 15th and August 20th.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said Thursday that U.K. officials had learned lessons from a 2017 attack during an Ariana Grande concert at northwest England's Manchester Arena in which a suicide bomber killed 22 people.

"I'm sure Vienna has got its own reasons to cancel the Taylor Swift concerts. We're going to carry on, working closely with police (and) ensuring that the Taylor Swift concerts can take place in London safely," Khan told U.K. broadcaster Sky News on Thursday.

Haley Ott , Eleanor Watson and Joanne Stocker contributed to this report.
