After safari back to Arusha & fly to Zanzibar, spend 6 days in Zanzibar island, 4 nights on the beach & 1 night in stone town & then fly out from Zanzibar. Accommodation will be camping on the mountain, mid-range lodges & tented camp during safari & in Zanzibar is a nice beach hotel & Tembo House hotel in Stone town.

Kilimanjaro safari & Zanzibar package starts when we meet you at Kilimanjaro international airport & drive to your lodge/hotel in Arusha or Moshi, followed by detailed briefing & gear checking for your Kilimanjaro trekking tour on Machame route 7 days. The following day after breakfast the tour will start by driving to Machame gate. Back from Kilimanjaro you will stay at the lodge in Arusha. Day 1: Arrival Day

On arrival at Kilimanjaro international airport meet our safari manager and drive to Mount Meru Hotel in Arusha or similar in Moshi. After check in the hotel our Kilimanjaro manager & your guide will join you for detailed briefing & gear checking. He will then leave you to relax and spend the rest of the day at the hotel before dinner & overnight.

Kilimanjaro Packing list

Day 2: To Mt Kilimanjaro – Arusha (1400 m) – Machame Camp (2980 m)

Hiking time:  6 to 7 hours – 18 km

Vegetation type: Rain forest

Your day starts with a transfer from your hotel to Machame gate at 1,815 m, the drive is along villages and local farms of maize cassava, sweet potatoes, banana, coffee etc. Then arrive at machame gate for registration and other Park logistics, after you will begin your hiking along the lavish forest, you may expect rain, mud & sometime fog at this section.

Kilimanjaro safari and Zanzibar beach day one is along the rain forest you will possibly hear the numerous native and migratory birds in the shade above and you can frequently see some monkeys like Sykes monkeys as well as Black and White Colobus moving around the trees. Proceed with hiking further up before arriving at your last point of a day the Machame Camp at 9850 ft. Porters & cook will arrive early at the camp as they are so faster so will find them already pitched your tent, mess tent and others, you will have hot water to wash  before siting for coffee or tea with some bites. hang around the camp until dinner time, after dinner you may go to sleep.

Day 3: Machame Camp (2980 m) – Shira Camp (3840 m)

Hiking time: 5-6 hours – 9 km

Vegetation type: Heather & Moorland

After breakfast at the lodge start your day on Kilimanjaro by hiking across the gorgeous heather land as well as alpine moorland with a stunning views of the  Kilimanjaro crown. Then we start up the precarious track through a Savannah of tall grasses, and trees of Giant Heather and Erica. You will Scramble around the extensive rocks as you start entering the moorland zone dominated by Lobelia and Senecio plants, and volcanic rocks hang with the lichen whiskers, which protects the wild alpine blossoms that developing at their bases, then you will reach  Shira Camp stands at 12,600 feet (3840 m).

At this campsite, you will be next to a stream where you can have a great view of the Western Breach and its glaciers in the East. Similar to the first night, arriving at the camp other procedures will follow same as the first day, Please get prepared for a very cold night as temperatures drop below freezing at this exposed camp.

Day 4: Shira Camp (3840 m) – Barranco Camp (3950 m)

Hiking time: 6 to 7 hours – 15 km

Vegetation type:   Semi – desert

On this day of your Kilimanjaro Safari & Zanzibar beach, we will move closer the crest as we get closer to the Lava Tower. The trek turns into more strenuous as the trail steepens on the way to deal with the Lava Tower (4630 m), a 300 foot tall volcanic attachment which denote an uncovered go at 15,000 feet.  Lunch will be served there while acclimatizing. After lunch and little rest you will go down to lower the altitude from Lava Tower ((4630 m)  to Baranco camp (3950 m). This (680 m) drop off will be via a steep trial into the Great Barranco Valley.

Barranco camp is situated on a cool (level range) encased on three sides with steep valley dividers and the Kibo massif itself. Hanging ice sheets glimmer in the daylight above, in the midst of the frightful scene of plants like the monster groundsels (Senecio Kilimanjari) and the extraordinarily endemic Giant Lobelia. Then we gradually climbing up to our overnight stop at Barranco Camp (12,950 feet, this day and the accompanying day will be your acclimatization time. At the camp same procedures will follow as per previous camp. Kilimanjaro Safari & znz.

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3950 m) – Karanga Valley Camp (3950 m)

Hiking time:   4 – 5 hours. 5 km

Vegetation type: Alpine desert

After breakfast, it is the day to conquer the Great Barranco Wall, Kilimanjaro Safari Tours start with a plunge into the Gorge, before climbing its eastern wall where we will appreciate perspectives of Kilimanjaro’s ice fields, a tropical oddity. We will keep trekking until we reach our camp Karanga Valley camp at (13,900 feet.) 3950 m. This is a good day for acclimatization purpose, at the camp same procedure will apply as for the previous day.

Day 6: Karanga Valley Camp (3950 m) – Barafu Camp (4600 m)

Hiking time:   2 to 3 hours – 4 km

Habitat: Alpine desert

After breakfast you will trek up through the Karanga Valley, the trail turns relentlessly tough just after the lava ridge to Barafu camp. The temperature will become colder and the scene more meager as we get closer to Barafu Camp. This is the last water stop for the porters because there is no accessible water at Barafu Camp (4600 m).

Barafu Camp is situated at a little uncovered level range on an edge going about as a base camp from which you will make your summit endeavor at midnight of this day. Barafu camp stands at 15,200 feet. This is a short day of your hiking so get enough rest at the camp, gather the strength for you final push to summit at night. At the camp possibly there will be no water to wash only for cooking & drinking. You will have early dinner, the guide will brief you in detail on how to prepare for summit night then get to sleep by 19:00 hrs. Try to get a good sleep as the guide will wake you up before midnight for  your final hiking to the summit.

Day 7: Barafu Camp (4600 m) – Uhuru Peak (5895 m) – Mweka Camp (3100 m)

Hiking time : 8 hours to reach the summit, 7-8 hours down to Mweka Camp

Distance: About 7 km ascent and 23 km descent

Vegetation type : Stone scree and ice-capped summit

Just after 00.00 hrs you will be ready to begin your final trek (12-17 hours) of trekking. You will start trekking at 00:30 or 01.00 hrs going between the Rebmann and Tarzel glaciers to the edge at Stella Point.

The temperatures is just below freezing point at midnight just before beginning at the summit. As sunrise nears, we’ll summit at Uhuru Peak, the most astounding point in Africa at 19,340 feet (5895 m). Uhuru will be the finish of and the prize for 6-7 hours of strenuous trekking, “Congratulation you have made it to the top”. Spend little time at the summit if weather permits before sliding back to Barafu Camp, resting for some time before proceeding with down to Mweka Camp (9,840 feet, it will be 3-4 hours of strolling on the plunge.

Day 8: Mweka Camp (3100 m) to Mweka Gate (1980 m) – Arusha

Hiking: 10 km in 3 to 4 hours.

Vegetation type : Rain forest habitat.

After breakfast, you will make our last drop to Mweka gate the strolling of around 3 or 4 hours. Reaching the gate the farewell and tipping session for potters, cook and guides will take place before signing and provided with a worthwhile Kilimanjaro climbing certificate. Then you will driving back to Arusha, arriving in the afternoon you will meet our safari manager for safari briefing. Spend the rest of the day relaxing & may be a long hot shower.

Day 9: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

Take your breakfast before 09:00 am and leave for Tarangire National Park . The driving is along the Northern Highway accross Massai steppe & many villages all the way to the Park gate. This beautiful Park located at the foot of the Tanzania’s Great Rift Valley escarpment runs along Tarangire River which is the valuable water source in then Park.

Tarangire is famous for its huge Baobab trees & large elephant population, you may also expect to spot heads of wildebeest, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, hippos, baboons, many antelopes & the giant African elephant. For bird watchers this is the paradise over 400 species of bird have been recorded here which includes the rare species of Ash Staling. Great Kudu & fringed Eared Oryx are among rare species found in Tarangire.

Predators like lion, cheetahs, hyenas, jackals & the ever-elusive leopard are also inhabit this Park. Tarangire Park forms the central annual migratory cycle within Tarangire Lake Manyara ecosystem which include up to 3000 elephants, 25,000 wildebeest and about 30,000 zebra. Late afternoon drive to Marera Valley Lodge near Karatu town.

Day 10: Lake Manyara – Serengeti National Park

After breakfast you will start your journey to the Serengeti National Park ,  drive across high laying farmland of Karatu and along many village, reach Ngorongoro gate for check in before driving to the highlands of Ngorongoro 2300 m. Stop at the Crater view point for some good pictures of the crater floor from the above. Then drive along the crater rim and down to the endless rolling plains of Serengeti.

On the way you will visit one of the Masai village where by some Masai warrior invites you & take you in and around their houses with some story of their nomadic life around this area, you will meet their kids and other members of the family, you may ask questions & take pictures with them. Later they will sing a farewell song which involves jumping high. Afterward you will have a short drive to Naabi Hill gate where you will check into the Serengeti. You may have your packed lunch at Naabi Hills gate or further at the Copjes (Rocky outcropping) in the Serengeti.

Depending on where the Wildebeest Migration is packed you will drive there & spend the sunset game drive with the migration of herds. You may see some animal actions like hunting fighting even killing, the animal to be encountered are including lions, leopard, hyena, jackal, elephant, giraffe, zebra and many antelopes. Reach your Camp at central Serengeti before or during the sunset. With or without Wildebeest Migration Serengeti is as good as always as not all animals are involving in the migration of herds.

Overnight at Thorn Tree Camp central Serengeti or similar. All Meals included.

Day 11: Full Day in Serengeti National Park

Start with the first rays of the day with packed breakfast and lunch box for an early morning game drives. Early morning game drive allows you to spot cat family on the road as they try to avoid the morning mist. You will also see some other predator coming back from their long night of hunting or eating along the road or a group of lioness organizing a morning ambush and many many more animals actions. break for breakfast in the bush afterward, resume your morning game drive.

If Wildebeest Migration will be packed in Serengeti then, you will go straight to where they are and spend as much time as you can with the herds. Afternoon depending on where you are you can break for lunch at Soronera visitors center in central Serengeti. After lunch and some rest you can walk around before embarking with your afternoon game drives. Drive back to your camp before or after sunset.

Day 12: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast at your camp Leave for Ngorongoro Crater  game drive on the way, descent 600 meters into the crater floor for a wonderful game drives. In this nature wonder of the world only few animals migrate in and out of the crater, you may expect to sport the rare black rhino, zebra, elephant, wildebeest, lion, hyena, cheetah, leopard and others, with a lucky day the Big Five can be spotted in the Crater in one day of game drives. Later afternoon drive to the hotel for dinner & overnight.

Day 13: Ngorongoro – Arusha – Zanzibar

After leisurely breakfast, return back to Arusha for your flight to Zanzibar in the afternoon. On arrival at Zanzibar airport meet our representative & transfer to Z Hotel Zanzibar or similar for your beach extension.

Overnight at Z Hotel Zanzibar on the Northern part of the Zanzibar Islands. Dinner and breakfast included.

Day 14-16: Zanzibar Beach Extension

Soothe yourself on the invitingly Zanzibar beaches with option of many water sport including diving, fishing, snorkeling and many more.

Day 17: Zanzibar Beach – Stone Town

After spending precious time on the beach, Kilimanjaro safari combine best Zanzibar beach takes you to Zanzibar Stone town ( Option ) on the way you can do the famous Spice tour that includes short walks around the spice farms where you can see, touch and test most of the spices grown on this Island like cinnamon, cardamon, ginger, paper, nutmeg and many more.

You will also see and test many tropical fruits like durian, jack fruits, passion fruits but this depends on the season. During the tour will experience both Spices, herbs and medicinal plants our experience guide will explain to you on how they us them in medicine, cosmetics and in cooking. Later they will invite you for an opulent lunch cooked with spices. (see  Zanzibar Island tour). Later drive to stone town and check in at Tembo House Hotel at the front part of the stone town. If you wish you can walk around the stone town on your own and explore  the narrow lines & the ruins.

Day 18: Transfer to Zanzibar Airport

18 Days Kilimanjaro-Safari & Zanzibar

In Zanzibar the sun arises from beneath the horizon, cascading a bombardment of colors that hurl over the sky with extreme alacrity and bright rays of light bounce across the ocean of sequins. Enticing aromas drift amidst the Indo-Arabic backdrop in Stone Town. Our Kilimanjaro Safari Zanzibar trip will surpass your wildest expectations.

Day 1: kilimanjaro airport to moshi.

Day one of your Kilimanjaro Safari Zanzibar experience is fairly simple. Our driver will transport you from the airport to the hotel where orientation on your trek will take place. Your guides will provide comprehensive details regarding your trek and they will assess if your trekking gear is suitable.

Day 2: Mt Kilimanjaro: Moshi – Machame Camp

In the morning we will proceed to the Machame Gate – the forty five minute drive ventures through the fertile pastures of coffee farms and vibrant, local villages. We will register at the gate whilst the porters ensure everything is in order. You will have an opportunity to acquaint yourself with the various crew members that will accompany you on the journey to Africa’s rooftop, Uhuru Peak. The final destination for the day is the Machame Camp, the porters and cooks will advance at a quick pace to ensure the camp is organised when you arrive. Huge roots encroach themselves in the ground, twisting through the moist floors. The foliage of Kilimanjaro’s cloud forest is thick and lush, forming an arch of mystical ember wrapped in green. The clouds clasp through the cracks in the canopies. The forest will begin to fade and the environment will shift to tall grasses, heathers and bursting wildflowers. If the skies are clear, the stunning Kibo Peak will loom over you as you hike.

Day 3: Mt Kilimanjaro: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Today’s hike is believed to be the easiest on the Machame Route but there are numerous uphill sections. On a clear day the sun can assist in exhausting you as you travel along the exposed trail, so we recommend you travel with plenty of drinking water. The landscape features the immense plains of the evergreen forests bellow. The piercing crown of the Mawenzi peaks and the stunning view of Kibo tower above. As you gain altitude, the scenery will begin to transform into a moorland and the trees will be replaced with the immense lobelias. A lunch break will occur before we reach the Shira Plateau – a product of the volcano eruption that stuffed the Shira Crater full of lava. We will proceed to the Shira Camp where you will relax for the rest of the day. The picturesque Mount Meru lies in the eastern region.

Day 4: Mt Kilimanjaro: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

The Kilimanjaro’s majestic presence begins to amplify as we advance to the Lava Tower. The intensity of the trek increases on the steep trail to the Lava Tower, a transcending three hundred foot tall volcanic plug that juts out of the ground. In the afternoon we will traverse on the steep path that leads to the Great Barranco Valley. The scenery at the Barranco Camp is unparalleled – the campsite is encompassed by the infamous Kibo Massif and the breathtakingly steep valley walls. Icicles crystalize against any surface and reflect the sunshine above. Ethereal plants such as the enormous lobelia and contrasting groundsels embellish the grounds. We will gradually ascend to the campsite where an appetising meal awaits (12,950 feet / 5-6 hours of walking). This day and the following day are vital acclimatisation days.

Day 5: Mt Kilimanjaro: Barranco Camp to Karanga Valley Camp

The trek will begin with a descent into the eerie Gorge, followed by a climb up its eastern wall where we will marvel at the ice wafting from the pure white sky above. Each flake swirling and dancing, before falling on top of the frosted ice fields of Kilimanjaro. We will continue to hike through the barren landscape until we reach the Karanga Valley campsite (13,900 feet / 4-5 hours of walking). A delicious dinner will be served and you can observe the cluster of stars above.

Day 6: Mt Kilimanjaro: Karanga Valley Camp to Barafu Camp

We will venture along the gradual hill of the Karanga Valley and cross the lava ridge to get to the Barafu Camp (15,200 feet / 6-7 hours of walking).The temperature will dip as we near the campsite which is set on a small, uncovered region of a ridge. At this point the vegetation has practically diminished but the stunning view of the bronzed Kibo and the Mawenzi Peak is complimented the gleaming, azure glacier. We suggest that you attempt to fall asleep as soon as possible because the final ascent to the summit begins at midnight.

Day 7: Mt Kilimanjaro: Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp

Shortly after midnight we will embark on the demanding trek to the summit (12-17 hours of trekking). We will journey amid the ancient Rebmann and Tarzel glaciers until we reach the rim at Stella Point. Before dawn, there is a high possibility of experiencing temperatures that reach just below freezing (-23°C to 10°C). Disembarking on the glorious floors of Uhuru will summon sensations of victory and the compensation of the strenuous hike is unearthly (6-7 hours of hiking). A gleaming ocean of brilliance soars beneath you and the glaciers are swaddled in a veil of delicate white clouds. Black rock is speckled onto the horizon and the sun corrodes strokes of gold within the frost. You will have an opportunity to take photos and marvel at the luminosity before we descend to Barafu Camp – we will have a break there. We will descend to the Mweka Camp (9,840 feet / 3-4 hours of walking on the descent) where an enticing meal awaits. The last night on the mountain can be spent admiring the stars or simply taking a well-deserved nap in your cosy sleeping bag.

Day 8: Mt Kilimanjaro: Mweka Camp to Park Gate

Our final descent to the park gate will last approximately 3-4 hours and after exchanging farewells with your crew, we will proceed to Moshi.

Day 9: Safari: Moshi to Lake Manyara National Park

The second part of your Kilimanjaro Safari Zanzibar experience will commence after you have enjoyed an appetising breakfast. Nestled at the rusty-gold core of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara National Park encompasses outstanding landscapes. The wildlife features buffalo, elephants, giraffe, impalas and hippos. Countless habitats including the lush rainforest, the alkaline waters of the lake and the bush veld support the highly diverse ecosystem.

Day 10: Safari: Lake Manyara to Serengeti National Park

We will proceed to Serengeti National Park – Tanzania's original and most frequented game reserve. The Serengeti is renowned for the annual wildebeest migration and immense wildlife population. We will enjoy a picnic lunch on one of the kopjes (rock outcropping) and continue to explore the park. Migration of the herds and the time of year are two factors that influence the availability of the wildlife but you can anticipate encountering wildebeest, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos, antelopes and many birds and other species.

Day 11: Safari: Serengeti National Park

We will embark on an exhilarating early morning game drive through the vast plains of the Serengeti. The savannah is an active playground for predators in the early hours, you may encounter a pack of lions mauling the final scraps of their kill whilst vultures circle for the trifle prey. The shadows of the trees are drenched in colour as the brilliant orange begins to pour out of the sun on the horizon. A tasty picnic lunch will be served during the game drive.

Day 12: Safari: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

We finish our time in Serengeti with another morning game drive before we proceed to Ngorongoro Crater. Overnight at the rim of the Crater with a stunning view into the caldera and on the sunset.

Day 13: Safari: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha

We will have an early departure to ensure that we arrive at the Ngorongoro Crater promptly. Africa’s Garden of Eden’ boasts dense vegetation and an exceedingly high concentration of wildlife as well as picturesque sceneries. The elevated structure encourages the animals to refrain from migrating in and out of the crater which means there is a high possibility of spotting every member of ‘The Big 5’. The powerful group comprises of buffalo, lions, rhinos, elephants and leopards. You can expect to see other wildlife including zebra, antelopes, jackals, flamingos, hippos, wildebeest and jackals. A picnic lunch will be served during the game drive. After our lunch we depart for Arusha for overnight.

Days 14: Arusha - Zanzibar: Kendwa

After breakfast you depart for Kilimanjaro airport. You will fly to Zanzibar and a driver will transport you from the Airport to Kendwa – where Zanzibar’s finest beaches await you.

Days 15-16: Zanzibar: Kendwa

It’s not often that you come across a utopian beach. The sea ebbs lightly and appears tranquil in its sapphire gown. The soft, white sand feels as if it has draped in wispy candy floss and in the distance, streams of pulsing light flood the surface with a golden haze. You can relax and enjoy the beaches of Zanzibar whilst the sound of the calm ocean lingers. There is a wide variety of water activities on offer including snorkelling, scuba diving and boat trips.

Day 17-18: Zanzibar: Spice Tour & Zanzibar Town - Depart Zanzibar

We will journey to Stone Town and if you have opted to do the renowned Spice Tour (optional – not included), we will take a stimulating detour. Our team has devised a specialized Spice Tour that covers a broader theme. Spices are the central focal point but we will also discover the organically grown herbs as well as their customary uses in homeopathic medicine, cosmetics and cooking – you will return home with more than just your suitcase. There is an extravagant lunch after the tour where you can sample the flavoursome spices and exotic fruits in traditional dishes. In the afternoon we will embark on our Historical Stone Town Tour (optional – not included). The tour teleports through years of history in the extraordinary town by visiting the infamous House of Wonders, the Arab Fort, the Palace Museum (People’s Palace) and other monumental sites. The bustling market captures the true essence of life Zanzibar, meander through winding passages, sample some more exotic cuisine and study the intricately engraved, studded doors. You can decide whether you want to depart to the airport for your flight back home or lengthen your trip.

STONE TOWN     

City Tour – 3 hours

No trip to Zanzibar is complete without a visit to the UNESCO Heritage site of Stone Town. After a short flight from Kilimanjaro to Zanzibar, our driver will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel in Stone Town, where you can check in and relax during the morning.

You will then move to the Anglican Church built in 1874 on the site of the old Slave Market. Slavery was abolished in 1873. You will have the opportunity to visit the church where the alter is built on the site of the old slave whipping post. You will also be given a tour of the old slave chambers.

Our final stop of the day is Maruhubi Palace Ruins, famous because it was built to house the third sultan of Zanzibar’s harem of 99 wives. Werecommend you bring a sun hat, sun cream and comfortable shoes.

After breakfast in Stone Town, our driver will pick you up and transfer you to the Northern tip of the island to Nungwi Beach. Now it is time to kick back and relax, sink your feet in to the pristine white sand and enjoy the crystal clear water of the Indian Ocean.

Should I begin my trip with a safari first then Kilimanjaro?

The sequence of your trip is of personal choice, however, going by the trend what we also recommend, is to begin with the strenuous Mount Kilimanjaro trek and get it out of the way, then use your safari game drive as a recovery trip. As we stated above, we have no problem with beginning your trip with a nice safari and then winding your tour with conquering Africa’s highest mountain, because at the end of the day, it is just a matter of personal preference.

After my Kilimanjaro and safari trip, can I add-on Zanzibar beach relaxation?

You can simply travel to Zanzibar from Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha, where you may have a peaceful trip on one of Eastern Africa’s most beautiful islands. Which safari parks will I visit after climbing Kilimanjaro?

On the Tanzanian side of the border, close to Mt Kilimanjaro lies East Africa’s highest peak, but most importantly, Tanzania is home to most underestimated safari locations. Most people until recently only knew of Kruger National park in South Africa and Masai Mara, Amboseli in Kenya long before Serengeti even become famous. There is so much to do here, and there are never any crowds because most people are focused on climbing Africa’s tallest peak and/or experiencing the more well-known northern safari circuit of Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Tarangire. In fact many tourists visit other countries like South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, especially the Okavango, not knowing that Tanzania gives all these countries combined, a race for their money in terms of scenery and wildlife density.

A World Heritage Site and one of the world’s most renowned animal conservation regions, is a “must-see” on any Tanzanian safari. The park is fittingly called after the Maasai term for “endless plains,” with a total area of 14,763 sq km. You may expect to see the “Big Five” (Lions, Elephants, Rhinos, Leopards, and Cape Buffalo) as well as a variety of other famous and lesser-known animals. The biggest submerged ancient caldera in the world, Ngorongoro, is officially a “caldera.” The once-volcanic Ngorongoro is now regarded as one of “Africa’s eighty marvels,” with an estimated age of three million years. The Crater floor also referred to as the “Garden of Eden,” is a natural sanctuary for thousands of animals, including wildebeest, over 200 lion prides, zebra, elephants, hippos, hyenas, Thomson gazelles, African buffalo, crocodiles, ostriches, and a variety of birds, not to mention one of the best spots to see an endangered Rhino. A trip to Ngorongoro is a necessity, and it’s a fantastic site to combine with a Maasai village culture tour.

Visit Lake Manyara to see flamingos and tree climbing lions

For its size of 325 square kilometers, Lake Manyara National Park is a beautiful and incredibly diversified park (125 square miles). The park is known for the dramatic changes in its landscape, which range from a shallow soda lake with flamingos to acacia woodland with large concentrations of baboon troops, giraffe and elephant herds, and a birding paradise with over 400 bird species to the Great Rift Valley escarpment with its famous tree-climbing lions. There is also an underground water forest in the park.

Lake Manyara is a fantastic stopover on the way to the Serengeti or a fantastic short safari in and of itself for those on a tighter schedule.

Visit Tarangire National Park, large elephant herds, and giant baobabs

Tarangire National Park, a wonderfully picturesque park, is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife and is known for its elephant population. Tarangire gets its name from the Tarangire River, which runs through the heart of the park from the south to the northwest, eventually emptying into Lake Burungi. Tarangire National Park is part of the broader Tarangire-Manyara Ecosystem, which spans 35,000 square kilometers. This park offers a really spectacular experience, from the stunning savannah vistas (for which the park is justly famed) to the huge number of Baobab trees that provide home for a varied range of birds and bats.

Tarangire is situated in an arid region that enables the establishment of a woodland savannah dominated by Acacia, Terminalia, Combretum, and commiphora species. Riverine woodlands, Acacia tortilis park land, wetlands and seasonal flood plains, acacia-commiphora woodlands, riverine grasslands, combretum-dalbergia woodlands, acacia drepanolobium woodlands, rocky hilltop (kopjes) vegetation, deep gully vegetation, and grasslands with scattered Baobab trees are among the most notable vegetation types in the area. In the Tarangire-Maasai Steppe environment, the Park provides as a dry season sanctuary for the bulk of migratory species. There are around 550 bird species in the park.

The open Acacia woods, the wetland (Silale Swamp), and the flood plains of the Tarangire River have particularly abundant bird life.

Visit Olduvai Gorge, the cradle of mankind

The Olduvai Gorge is where humanity began! Dr. Louis Leakey, a prominent archaeologist, discovered some of the oldest fossil hominid bones here in the early twentieth century. This visit provides a suitable education for the future in a smaller, multicultural world, with the ongoing quest for an answer to where we come from and what we are, culturally and physiologically. Olduvai provides us with a deeper grasp of our evolutionary history, ensuring our species’ future prosperity and well-being.

The term Olduvai comes from a typo of Oldupai, the true Maasai word for this historically significant location, which was called for the many wild sisal plants in the canyon. The gorge is a steep-sided canyon that stretches for 30 miles (48 kilometers) and is 295 feet (90 meters) deep. The sediments, according to paleoanthropologists, include a diverse fossil fauna dating from around 2,100,000 to 15,000 years ago. While on your Northern Circuit trip, stop by this notable archaeological site in the eastern Serengeti Plains, which is administered by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority.

Visit Arusha National Park

From the wooded foothills of Mt Kilimanjaro to Arusha National Park, the trek is simpler than you may expect. It’s a magnificent park with some of East Africa’s most beautiful landscapes. Within the park’s limits are Mt Meru, which rivals Mt Kilimanjaro in terms of grandeur, Ngurdoto Crater (also known as Little Ngorongoro), and Serengeti Ndogo, a stretch of wildlife-rich grasslands (Little Serengeti).

Blue monkeys and black-and-white colobus monkeys, as well as giraffes, elephants, zebras, red duikers, waterbucks, bushbucks, klipspringers, dik-diks, buffaloes, and hippos, may be seen on safari here.

You may also go kayaking, search for some of the 400 different bird species, and go to Mt Meru’s peak.

Visit Lake Natron and Oldoinyo Lengai

Visiting Mkomazi necessitates letting go of safari preconceptions as well as the crowds. A safari may include cultural experiences, animals, and breathtaking vistas here, but without the crowds, you’d find elsewhere. Between Kenya’s Amboseli National Park and northern Tanzania, the region is an important corridor for elephants migrating and lions dispersing, and witnessing these and other famous animals in the natural, sparsely populated terrain in these sections may be a great highlight.

This is Maasai territory, part of a vast heartland that stretches from northern Tanzania to southern Kenya. But here, it’s more about meeting Maasai tribes on their own terms, away from the crowds. Most importantly, the unobstructed mountain vistas of Mt Kilimanjaro, Mt Meru, Mt Longido, and the Crater Highlands to the west are among the greatest in Tanzania.
