Experience Griffith in Virtual Reality!

Over the years, Griffith University has become my second home. I spent 3 years studying at the Nathan campus, which included many late nights in the library and hot chocolates at Cafe Rossa. Since graduating and becoming an alumni, I’ve been lucky enough to land myself a job with Griffith International (Griffith can’t get rid of me that easily!)

Since the campuses have been closed due to COVID-19, it’s been a pretty strange feeling not to be able to walk through the beautiful Toohey Forest on my lunch break or explore the campus. Thankfully, campuses will soon be reopening, but it got me thinking, how can students experience all of our facilities, when they are not able to visit the campus in person? And so, a few of my innovative colleagues have created the Griffith virtual reality experience , showcasing Griffith campuses, its staff and students.

Hundreds of images have been shared from across our Gold Coast, Nathan and South Bank campuses, showcasing the creative, technology, clinical, and student spaces, as well as facilities and buildings. You can visit some of the spaces that Griffith has to offer; from the clinical to the creative, look around in 360° and experience Griffith from wherever you are in the world, without stepping foot on campus.

The webpage includes short VR experiences, which is a great way to really immerse yourself in what it would be like to be on campus. You can gain an insight into what it would be like becoming a Griffith Mate, or watch videos of our academic staff in the Big Data Lab and find out more about the different schools at Griffith.

Following the success of last year’s virtual Open House campaign, Griffith University is offering both an in-person Open Day event this year and a six week online Open House event, encouraging prospective students to try one or even both modes.

“Although I couldn’t explore Griffith’s medical facilities in person, attending Griffith’s Virtual Open House answered all my questions and really helped me to sort out everything I needed to do smoothly,” she said.

“ I wasn’t sure how the Virtual Open House would work, since I always thought that these things were better in person, but it actually worked quite well.

“All sessions were recorded and available for a bit of time after the live session in case I couldn’t make it to one, and it really helped flesh out what I wanted to do.”

“I was able to avoid topics that weren’t relevant tome, andpick and choose the topics I was interested in, like — how to apply for a scholarship,GriffithLIVEHealth webinars, and I also checked out the FAQ for medical students to get a better idea of my future pathway.

“It helped me pick Griffith as my university of choice. I knew what my journey to medicine would look like, and I knew what steps I’d have to take to get to my end goal.”

Griffith’s Virtual Open House event runs from Monday 12 July toFriday20 August, while in person Open Days will be held on Sunday8 August atGold Coast, South Bank and Nathan campuses.

Explore Griffith University in virtual reality

How can you explore griffith university from home.

You’re here, Australia is there. After everything that’s happened recently, it seems like Australia is farther away than ever.

Griffith University would like to help fix that.

The university’s selection of Virtual Experience images has recently been updated to include their GELI facilities on the Gold Coast, and additional images of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Clinical Spaces, Creative Spaces and Tech Spaces. Even though you may not be able to visit Griffith in person right now, they have the next best thing available, with virtual reality experiences showcasing Griffith campuses, staff and students.

The wide range of 360 images from across Griffith’s campuses lets you explore Griffith from your own home, and lets you easily view the university’s creative, technological, clinical and student spaces, as well as other facilities and buildings. These 360-degree images have been created so that you can take your own self-guided tour of the selected spaces, and get a taste of what it’s really like to be on a Griffith campus.

Griffith also have a selection of virtual reality videos for you to enjoy. These short VR experiences are a fun way to immerse yourself in campus life. Meet Professor Bela Stantic in Griffith’s Big Data Lab, or find out more about studying health at Griffith with some medicine, dentistry and nursing students while they are in the nursing clinic.

These videos and images can all be accessed from your computer or mobile phone, and if you are lucky enough to have a VR headset, even better!

Griffith University International - Experience Griffith in Virtual Reality

Griffith Health - Virtual Reality Experience

Griffith University International is using Virtual Reality to enable prospective students abroad to experience life at Griffith. Students are able to virtually visit various spaces from the clinical to the creative, look around and explore everything without stepping foot on campus.

I filmed this project for ThinkVR with assistance of my good friend Iouri Ilioukhine on the audio recording. Talent selection and scripting was done by the Griffith International Team and everyone shown on camera was either a student or a lecturer at Griffith University so it’s fair to say it was for the most part an in-house production. We filmed scenes across their Gold Coast Campus, Nathan Campus and South bank Campus in Brisbane.

A project like this has it’s challenges when a lot of piece to camera takes are to be done, but in this case, the in-house talent worked pretty well and positively added to the sense of authenticity of these VR Experiences. People from many different origins got a chance to appear on camera and speak about their life at Griffith University, with reflected the mix of people you find studying at Griffith.

The video on top is the Griffith Health Virtual Reality Experience. Meet three students studying health at Griffith University. Calvin Xu is completing his Doctor of Medicine, Fatima is studying a Bachelor of Dentistry and Christine is pursuing a Bachelor of Nursing.

Griffith University Village (Village) is set to boast a new first-class university experience including a new 11-storey student accommodation tower housing an additional 460 beds. The tower will feature a mix of studio, two-bedroom, and accessible units, along with a substantial provision of communal amenities to benefit all residents of the Village, including a new swimming pool, gym and a range of contemporary communal spaces.

Enabling works, to establish temporary communal amenities for residents to use during construction, are set to commence in late March 2024 and demolition and construction of the main tower is set to commence in June 2024, with completion forecast in mid-2026. Upon completion, total number of students living at the Village will be close to one thousand.
