Blossoms are going to be the support act for Oasis ’ 2025 gigs in Heaton Park, Manchester , it has been reported.

The group, who formed in 2013 and have three number 1 albums, are from Stockport, Manchester – just like Noel and Liam Gallagher , who first played together in 1991.

Earlier in 2024 the band – comprised of Tom Ogden, Charlie Salt, Joe Donovan. Josh Dewhurst, and Myles Kellock – Noel Gallagher and the High Flying Birds during a one-off Royal Albert Hall show in London .

A source told The Sun : ‘Noel and Liam and Blossoms have been friends for years and with the band also coming from Manchester asking them to support Oasis was a no brainer.

‘It will be announced in due course but Blossoms have agreed to support Oasis at their Heaton park shows – naturally they jumped at the chance.’

‘It’s a full circle moment for them as members Tom Ogden and Joe Donovan’s first ever gig was at Oasis at Heaton Park.’

Blossoms

Fans have been in a spin since the famously feuding brothers announced their reunion, with tour dates announced for Manchester ,  London ,  Edinburgh ,  Cardiff , and  Dublin .

Pre-sale tickets opened on August 30 at 7pm BST and were soon snapped up by lucky fans who got a magic code in their inbox that gave them the first chance to get them. General admission tickets are set to go on sale at 9am BST today.

However, many dedicated fans were left ticketless and waiting in a queue of thousands as tickets went up for sale on unofficial sites for extortionate costs – some even reaching £10,000.

Oasis issued an official warning to fans, which read: ‘We have noticed people attempting to sell tickets on the secondary market since the start of the pre-sale. Please note, tickets can ONLY be resold, at face value, via @Ticketmaster and @Twickets. Tickets sold in breach of the terms and conditions will be canceled by the promoters.’

Ahead of the pre-sale, Oasis revealed due to ‘unprecedented demand’ three further gigs have been added to the line-up.

Noel and Liam Gallagher

The extra dates include a Heaton Park show on July 16, an extra Wembley gig on July 30 and another Edinburgh concert on August 12.

In the band’s home city of Manchester, tickets start from £148.50, with only standing available alongside a number of hospitality and luxury packages.

Prices for a seat to watch the band at London’s Wembley Stadium begin at £74.25, with the most expensive ticket a £506.25 pre-show party, exhibition and seated package.

The cheapest seats are Cardiff’s Principality Stadium shows, which will set you back £73, and Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium at £74, according to Manchester-based promoter SJM Concerts, which runs the website Gigs And Tours.

Standing tickets at Wembley will cost fans £151.25, with the same tickets in Cardiff and Edinburgh slightly cheaper at £150 and £151 respectively.

Noel and Liam announced on Tuesday that they had put their acrimonious split behind them, confirming the band’s long-awaited reunion by saying: ‘The great wait is over.’

Oasis have announced three extra concert dates in the UK for their reunion tour next year, and revealed details of how much tickets will cost.

The band said they were adding the extra gigs due to "unprecedented demand" following registration for a ticket pre-sale.

They have also extended the deadline to confirm entries to the pre-sale, to 10am UK time on Friday, after worry from some social media users that they had not received responses. Fans who are successful in the ballot will be contacted by 5pm tomorrow with access information.

Noel and Liam Gallagher confirmed the band's reunion on Tuesday morning , following weeks of speculation. The comeback comes 15 years after Noel quit the band, spelling the end of Oasis , until now.

The additional gigs mean the band will now play five Wembley concerts, five in their home city, and three in Scotland - on top of two in Ireland and two in Wales.

The new dates are: 16 July at Heaton Park, Manchester; 30 July, Wembley Stadium, London; 12 August, Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh.

As with the initial gigs, the bulk of tickets for the new dates, following the pre-sale, go on sale on Saturday morning..

How much are tickets?

The new shows come after the band announced that some fans would be able to get their hands on tickets a day early through a pre-sale ballot - cue thousands of people rushing to register to be in with a chance .

A post on the Oasis social media channels said there had been an "unprecedented volume of entries".

Prices for the cheapest seats in London, Cardiff and Edinburgh range between £73 and £74.25, while standing tickets for the three venues will cost fans between £150 and £151.25, according to Manchester-based promoter SJM Concerts, which runs the website Gigs And Tours.

In Manchester, where only standing tickets are available, alongside a number of hospitality and luxury packages, tickets start from £148.50.

Before the announcement for UK shows, Irish promoters MCD said the price of both of the gigs in Dublin would start at 86.50 euros (£72.75), without booking fees.

The most expensive tickets available for Wembley are £506.25, which include a pre-show party and exhibition.

Fans have complained that hotels in the gig areas have already ramped up prices. One chain in Manchester was accused of cancelling a booking made prior to the reunion announcement - and relisting the room for a higher price .

Glastonbury rumours shut down

Ahead of the reunion announcement, some media reports suggested the band would be playing a record 10 dates at Wembley, as well as a headline performance at Glastonbury .

However, the band ended speculation about the festival slot, saying in a statement: "Despite media speculation, Oasis will not be playing Glastonbury 2025 or any other festivals next year. The only way to see the band perform will be on their Oasis Live '25 World Tour."

Plans are in place for further dates outside Europe, the band confirmed in the original announcement, but no further details have been released.

'The great wait is over'

Following weeks of speculation, both of the Gallagher brothers shared the reunion news on their social media sites on Tuesday, saying: "This is it, this is happening."

"The guns have fallen silent," Oasis said. "The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised."

Fifteen years after the band's break-up, the brothers were pictured together for the first time in years to mark the announcement, with the photograph understood to have been taken in London in July. It is not known whether they had met up prior to that.

Revealing details about why the reunion is finally happening now after years without speaking to each other, the band's statement said there had been "no great revelatory moment", but rather "the gradual realisation that the time is right".

Today marks the 30th anniversary of Oasis's debut album, Definitely Maybe - something they said must have been a "subconscious influence" on their decision.

Details of who else from Oasis's previous line-ups will rejoin them for the tour, or of other musicians in the pipeline, have yet to be confirmed.

They have not said whether there are any plans to release new music.

Amid concerns about touts and ticket prices, the band have partnered with Twickets as their official resale platform, "to ensure their 2025 UK tour tickets are resold for no more than face value and booking fees".

The Oasis website states: "Ticket resale is permitted at no more than the price you paid (face value + booking fees). Please only use the official resale partners www.twickets.live and Ticketmaster. Selling tickets through unauthorised resale platforms will breach these T&Cs and those tickets may be cancelled."

Oasis Add Three Dates to Reunion Tour Due to ‘Unprecedented Demand’

By Emily Zemler

Oasis have announced three additional shows as part of their highly-anticipated 2025 reunion tour . The concerts include Manchester’s Heaton Park, London’s Wembley Stadium, and Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium.

“Due to unprecedented demand, three new U.K. dates will be added to Oasis Live ‘25,” the band wrote on Twitter this morning, reminding fans that tickets go on sale Saturday, Aug. 31 at 9 a.m. BST.

Earlier this week, brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher confirmed they were putting aside their long-held differences to bring Oasis back together fifteen years after their breakup. The group announced the Oasis Live ’25 tour early Tuesday morning with tour dates in the U.K. and Ireland (details on North American shows yet to be announced).

“The guns have fallen silent,” the band said in a statement. “The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.”

The band officially confirmed the reunion after a  weekend of rumors and social media speculation  (that just happened to coincide with the 2024 Reading Festival — which Oasis headlined 24 years ago in 2000 — and the 30th anniversary of their debut album  Definitely Maybe ). Reports started to emerge that the Gallaghers had settled their 15-year feud and would announce a series of 2025 gigs in the U.K.

Oasis add MORE dates to huge reunion tour due to ‘unprecedented demand’

No great surprise here. Contains affiliate links

Daisy Jackson

Oasis have added brand new dates to their 2025 reunion tour due to ‘unprecedented demand’.

The group announced their shock comeback earlier this week with 14 shows across the UK and Ireland.

Those included four nights on home turf at Heaton Park as well as gigs at Wembley Stadium and Murrayfield Stadium. As Liam Gallagher would say – biblical.

Oasis have now announced that they’re adding three more dates to their run of shows.

Registrations for pre-sale tickets ended last night, and it looks like the demand has been high .

Given that fans have waited 15 long years to see Liam and Noel Gallagher put aside their differences and get back on the road, this is no great surprise.

They wrote today: “Due to unprecedented demand, three new UK dates will be added to Oasis Live ‘25.”

The huge Oasis tour will now include five nights at Heaton Park, with the group adding a show on 16 July to their tour dates.

Another night at Wembley Stadium on 30 July, and one in Edinburgh on 12 August, have also been announced today.

Yesterday, Oasis also dropped a hint that a world tour might be on the way …

Tickets for Oasis will go on general sale at 9am on Saturday 31 August and you can get yours here .

Tributes pour in for much-loved Manchester DJ Luke Leadbelly after his death

Local DJ and producer Luke Leadbelly has died after a short illness, with tributes pouring in.

The young DJ was a familiar face behind the decks at clubs, festivals and events right across Manchester.

Luke had been diagnosed with AML cancer, a type of blood cancer, and ‘fought many rough months’ before passing away on Sunday 25 August.

A GoFundMe has now been set up to help his family and to give him ‘the send off he deserved’.

Several event organisers and clubs around Manchester are now paying moving tributes to Luke.

Hit and Run, a local club night, shared: “Just wanted to take a moment to big up our dear departed friend @lukeleadbelly – who recently left this world after a brief illness

“He was a key figure – especially in the first decade of the night. He played several of the @hitandrunuk takeovers and boat parties at @outlookfestival, as well as our first 2 room takeovers at @fabriclondonofficial – plus countless HIT & RUN’s, especially the Grime takeovers, whether we were doing a joint event with his crew @p13_mcr or not.

“He was a wicked DJ, dedicated producer for nearly 20 years, and one of the sweetest spirits you could ever hope to meet.

Tributes pour in for much-loved Manchester DJ Luke Leadbelly after his death

“We are truly shocked by the news, and send love to his family and loved ones at this most difficult of times.

“He will always be remembered with the utmost affection by all of us here at @hitandrunuk”

The GoFundMe page said: “Sadly on the Sunday 25 August 2024 Luke lost his fight to AML cancer. After his diagnosis, Luke fought through many rough months till his body gave in and he finally passed away.

“Luke truly was one of a kind and we’re hoping to raise some funds towards the funeral; to help the family and give him the send off he deserved. Any donation will be greatly appreciated.”

DJ Rich Reason shared: “Really gutted to hear that our friend @lukeleadbelly has just died – all happened so quickly, it’s difficult to get your head around it at all.

“Such a sweet and kind soul, with the cheekiest and widest smile; had mad love for the guy, and his fashion sense too! Always so happy to see him when out & about.

“He was a key presence in so many milestone moments for @hitandrunuk and will never be forgotten; also for his tunes with @tumarnigresham & @skittlesuk, his residency at @p13_mcr, countless sets with @mcrchunky & @strategyyeah

“So sorry that so many people I know & love will be hurting a lot right now. Seems so cruel when he was really on the up and was obviously so happy in life and in love. This one hurts. Big Love Luke, Rest easy.”

DJ Katie Cooper wrote: “LJ, Luke, Beeb. I could write a million words to describe our lives growing up together over the last 17 years, but there isn’t any words to describe how proud I am to have been your friend.

“ @lukeleadbelly  my heart is truly broken and its hurting to imagine a world without you in it. thank you for being a brother, a best friend and for the most incredibly ridiculous memories anyone could ask for. I love you so so so much, forever and eve”

And fellow DJ and sound engineer Jonny Opo wrote: “This one hurts bad. Gonna miss you our Luke. You were there through all the early rave days, your energy and mischievous grin were infectious. I’ll never forget the b2bs in dirty warehouses and fields – you lived for it with me and the rest of the crew.

“I’ll never forget the outfits – there were always belters. You pioneered some crazy pants and animal prints!

“Until we meet again at the big rave in the sky love you always and rest easy”

The sporting action isn’t stopping any time soon; the Euros and Summer Games might have passed but now the Paris 2024 Paralympics are upon us and there are plenty more local athletes heading to the competition.

It’s been a fantastic month or so for Team GB and now our para-athletes are set to follow on from their success in the French capital for the next 12 days.

There are a total of 215 Paralympians from Great Britain and Northern Ireland and just over half a dozen of those are either from Greater Manchester or currently based here in the de-facto sporting capital of the UK.

Without further ado, here are the names of nearby that you need to get behind during this year’s Paralympics.

7 Greater Manchester Paralympians to look out for at Paris 2024

Dame sarah storey dbe – stockport – cycling.

Where else to begin than with the most decorated athlete in Paralympic history?

Stopfordian Dame Sarah Storey is one of the most legendary athletes to ever compete in the Games, let alone represent Team GB. With 28 medals to her name, 17 of those being gold, she’s the most decorated Paralympian this nation has ever produced and has been an inspiration for more than three decades.

Having started out her career as a para-swimmer before going on to become a record-breaking cyclist as well – the event she will be sticking to this time around – there are many names that pop into your head before Storey. To say she’s written her own is putting it mildly. Simply iconic.

Stockport Paralympian Dame Sarah Storey unveiled as Visiting Professor of Sport at Manchester Metropolitan University

Laurie Williams – Manchester – Wheelchair Basketball

Switching to wheelchair basketball, local lass Laurie Williams will be returning to ply her trade on the court once again a decade and a half since her senior debut back in 2009 and 12 years on from her first-ever Paralympics in London.

A busy mum and graduate of multiple degrees amidst becoming one of the stars of Team GB’s wheelchair basketball team, the 32-year-old British-Irish para-athlete has been on the scene for a while now and has also been a big advocate for the LGBTQ+ community .

Competing alongside her partner, fellow basketball star and squad member, Robyn Love (the pair announced their engagement back in 2020), the Manchester-based couple have already seen early success, beating Spain in the opening round and we’re sure this is just the beginning.

Greg Warburton – Leigh – Wheelchair Basketball

Speaking of teammates, another wheelchair basketball star from Greater Manchester native representing Team GB is Greg Warburton, born and bred over Wigan way in Leigh .

Quite literally one of if not the best wheelchair basketball player in the world after being named MVP at the 2018 World Championships and delighting the sport ever since making his debut at Rio 26, we’re very proud to say the 27-year-old is from around these parts.

From winning a maiden bronze medal at the age of 19 to being a role model for countless other hopefuls looking to join the discipline or become a para-athlete in general, he’s one of the shining lights at this year’s tournament.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Paralympics (@paralympics)

Grace Harvey – University of Manchester – Para-swimmer

Next up is a rising star who may have been born over in Hertfordshire but has spent her formative sporting years right here in the city centre: 25-year-old Grace Harvey.

A university student currently doing her Master’s in Dental Public Health whilst balancing her training, the British Para-Swimming National Performance facility based over at the Aquatics Centre on Oxford Road has been her home for several years now, so as far as we’re concerned, she’s one of us.

Despite the challenges that come with her cerebral palsy diagnosis, Harvey notched a phenomenal hat-trick of medals in just her first World Championships in 2022, including a gold in the SB5 100m Breaststroke. She’s one of UoM Sport’s gems and we’re lucky to have her.

Ellie Challis – Manchester – Swimming

On to another honorary Mancunian, she might be Clacton-born but young Ellis Challis is now based in Manchester and after becoming Team GB ‘s youngest Paralympic medalist at Tokyo 2020, you better believe we’re claiming her as our own.

Despite only being at the very start of her career and still only aged 20, Challis has been facing obstacles all her life – from her heartbeat stopping for a whole two minutes when she was just 16 months old to living limbless after falling ill with meningitis – but she has never let disability get in her way.

Having an unshakably positive attitude is one of the reasons she was already an inspiration to many even as a teenager, and after smashing her own World Record at the Championships in Madeira just a couple of years ago, she seems destined to keep manifesting her own greatness.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ellie (@ellie_challis)

Poppy Maskill – Middlewich – Swimming

Our penultimate Paralympian is the equally promising Poppy Maskill, who hails from just down the road in Middlewich. She may be flying the flag for Cheshire but she’s also representing the incredible calibre of athletes being produced by the National Performance Centre here in Manchester.

Still only a teenager (19), Poppy is a multiple world champion para swimmer in the intellectual impairment category and looks set to continue her incredible start to sporting life at Paris 2024.

Following a stellar 12 months since bursting onto the scene back in 2022, the sky’s the limit for this girl.

I’m soo excited to announce I’ve been selected for Paris 2024 Paralympics games Thank you to everyone that has helped me achieve this and my dad for everything 100 days to go 🇫🇷💪 @Aquatics_GB @ParalympicsGB @Paralympics #Paralympics2024 pic.twitter.com/lOIYXiXhDW — Poppy_Maskill (@MaskillPoppy) May 20, 2024

Cameron Vearncombe – Manchester – Swimming

Last but not least, we’ve got one more adopted Manc in the form of 0161-based but Bridgwater-born Cameron Vearncombe, a.k.a. ‘ParaCam’.

2024 has been this youngster’s best year to date, having picked up bronze for Team GB in both the 200m medley event and the 100m butterfly at the Paralympic trials back in April, not to mention a trio of medals at the Aberdeen World Series at the start of the season.

Also competing in the intellectual impairment category, Cameron told Great British Life , “I can get very anxious and nervous sometimes” but has lots of help around him from friends, family and coaches, adding: “It would be a dream to get on the podium.”

Greater Manchester Paralympians at Paris 2024

  • Manchester United finally agree deal to sign PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte
  • ‘New’ Manchester team set to take Super League Basketball by storm
  • Four mates from Stockport are taking on the Loch Ness 24 ultramarathon for Christie Hospital

And there you have it: seven fantastic Paralympians from Manchester for you to cheer on over the next week or so.

We have every faith they’ll do us Brits proud as the Northerners always do.

You can watch all the events from the 2024 Paris Paralympics live on Channel 4 or on demand via All4.

Over three decades the lifelong friends that are the members of elbow have created one of the most remarkable stories in British contemporary music.

Formed in Bury in the 90’s when all the members were together at sixth form college, elbow’s history now encompasses seven studio albums, a long list of awards and a place in the roll call of great British bands.

For a group with such a long history, the sense that they are yet to achieve their total potential has pushed elbow on throughout their long career. Their most recent albums, ‘The Take Off and Landing of Everything’ (2014) and ‘Little Fictions’ (2017) have both debuted at Number One in the UK album charts and the band’s touring schedule has seen them play to ever increasing audiences across the world alongside first-time forays to the likes of Mexico, where their debut in the country was greeted by an audience of 80,000 at Corona Capital 2017. Such a high-profile debut holds no terrors for elbow, the band whose two Glastonbury Pyramid sunset slots are regarded by critics as amongst the finest moments in the festival’s long history.

Such a prestigious history is packed with highlights. Their 2008 Mercury Prize win for fourth album, ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’, transformed them from respected band into household names, it’s attendant single ‘One Day Like This’ becoming the soundtrack to everything from the BBC’s Beijing Olympics coverage to the Big Brother final. Following the Mercury win, the 2009 BRIT award for Best British Group and three Ivor Novello songwriting awards for ‘One Day Like This’, Grounds For Divorce’ and ‘Magnificent (She Says)’.

Lead singer Guy Garvey, who also has his own BBC 6 Music radio show, has been rightly commended with two awards in 2018 for his contribution to UK music. The Music Manager’s Forum and Featured Artist’s Coalition acclaimed Guy as the ‘Artist’s Artist’ at their 2018 Artist and Manager Awards whilst BASCA presented Guy with a Gold Badge award, in recognition of his long contribution to the musical and lyrical canon of British popular culture.

elbow first came to national attention with the band’s inclusion in The John Peel Festive 50 for ‘Powder Blue’ from the debut EP, ‘Noisebox’, in 1998 and, throughout the intervening time, their connection to music lovers had been a recurring theme. Often cited by other artists and familiar names from popular culture including the disparate likes of Elton John, John Cale, Ian Rankin, Michael Caine and Dame Katherine Grainger, the love that the UK has for the band is possibly best demonstrated by their high standing in the all-time Desert Island Discs chart, one of only a handful of contemporary acts to be chosen by the public.

As you would expect, much has changed for the band in those decades. The young men of the Mercury nominated 2001 debut ‘Asleep In The Back’ are now fathers. Their journey to date has taken them from a rehearsal room in Bury across the globe, with band members working on side projects and solo projects in addition to elbow. Guy’s debut solo album, ‘Courting The Squall’, entered the UK charts at Number 3 in 2016 and he has found time to write and perform on film soundtracks and collaborate with Craig Armstrong on recent track ‘Cornflower (Marelle)’. Keyboardist Craig Potter has expanded his production work from elbow’s albums to ex Beta Band frontman Steve Mason’s acclaimed album ‘Meet The Humans’ and working with C Duncan. Guitarist Mark Potter formed blues band The Plumedores. Yet, at heart, elbow were, are and will be the same band, driven to create and continually better their ongoing legacy by the simple maxim that Guy proclaimed on the release of ‘Newborn’, the NME and Melody Maker single of the week that really made people start taking notice of them back in 1999:

"Honesty is a word that surfaces over and over when we are writing which is why I think the romance in our music is always balanced with realism. We are each other’s biggest influences. Basically, this is where we have been for all our adult lives.”

elbow are currently in the studio working on their eighth studio album, due for release in the autumn of 2019 and will play a series of shows next summer. See www.elbow.co.uk for all confirmed dates.

Live reviews

I saw Elbow on the 3rd of their 4 sell-out nights at the Manchester Apollo. Huge fan of the band, as I think they paint their hometown in a way nobody else does.

I think the problem with seeing Elbow live when one is at the age I am (first year uni student at the time of writing) is that they have aged and so have their fans. I'm not personally a huge fan of the new album and prefer their older work, but leaving that aside, it can be painful to see Guy working hard to get an average 45 year-old crowd to participate in doing things enthusiastically. This has a wearing effect on the gig and its atmosphere, as the venue is too large to be intimate, yet the crowd too reluctant to be excited and properly involved.

Elbow's music is good, don't get me wrong. Very good, in fact. Some of it is sublime, and I was delighted that they played "Great Expectations", one of their very best, on the night. But it doesn't seem so great in a huge, hollow hall of the seemingly semi-interested, or when combined with some not-quite-as-good newer music they've made.

It was also over £40.00, which was quite a lot for a medium gig. I love Elbow and that won't change, but I'd hesitate before going to see them again considering the stage they and their fans have reached.

Elbow and John Grant, Magnificent I say.

My fist Elbow gig and also my first John Grant gig

Up first an eight song set by John Grant fizzling with good humour, swear words aplenty and that beautiful tenor voice Marz and Glacier were outstanding.

Elbow came on stage just after 8:30, Mr Garvey in 90’s handwaving top form, a little demob happy as this was the last gig for some time as he played master of ceremonies though Elbows greatest hits. The voice is just so pure as the music swells around his word pictures and his bro romance with John Grant is hilarious . The whole set was outstanding with light show and back screens to match.Disapointed that there was no sad captains, but the duet between Garvey and Grant made up for it. Loved little fictions, grounds for divorce, Lippy kids but hearing one day like this live for the first time made my night. Come back soon Elbow, until then I will throw those curtains wide.

John Grant Five Stars

Elbow Five stars

The whole evening not enough stars in the universe to do it justice!

Elbow have been a band I've wanted to see for so long. So back in April when they were announced to play in Cork I knew this was finally my chance. I got there early so I could get to the front and ended up front and centre, straight in front of Guy. They came out on stage and there was no desperation from other fans to get a glimpse of the band, just sheer joy that these wonderful musicians had taken to the stage. Their show was absolutely mesmerising, from the beautiful moments of The Night Will Always Win to the adrenaline pumping Grounds For Divorce, Guy Garvey had the Cork crowd in the palm of his hands and loving every single second of it. The night ended with Guy stating "Cork you've been wonderful, have a great night, in fact, no, have a great fucking life!" Then blasted into a rendition of One Day Like This that'll stay with me for the rest of my days, it was such a pure and beautiful moment. If you've ever wanted to see Elbow and you get even half a chance to then take it. You won't regret it.

This was a family outing and our 2nd time seeing Elbow at Hammersmith Apollo. We always go for standing room near the front. Guy Garvey is such an incredible frontman with an amazing voice. He introduced each song and also the band including the new drummer Alex Reeves who has a hard act to follow but was excellent. Richard Jupp left the band last year after 25 years. Pete Turner, Mark Potter and Craig Potter were all superb and the 2 female backing vocalists, violinists and percussionists were perfection - so multi-talented.

The sound at the Apollo was excellent and it feels like quite an intimate gig. Elbow played all the favourites and a few of the songs from the latest album Little Fictions, including the magnificent "Magnificent". The "word perfect" enthusiastic audience sang along brilliantly to "One Day Like This".

A perfect Sunday evening.

It was advertised as a "stripped back"show, so I wasn't sure what to expect.

For Elbow, this meant just the 4 members of the band, plus Alex Reeves on drums - none of the usual strings or brass normally found on tour with them, and no fancy back drops and lighting, just a fairly basic light show.

It was a fairly intimate gig in the O2 Ritz, something like 1500 people, and it was amazing! Guy Garvey comes across as the bloke next door who would find any excuse to go for a pint with you. Everyone is his friend.

They played 8 songs, 3 from the new album, and 5 from older albums - and they were amazing! They are great in the big arenas, but even better in a smaller venue!

Waited years to see Elbow only to have to leave after a few songs last night at Newport because the lighting was horrific!! What was with the constant very long (like whole song-long!) severe flashing lights?!? I swear it was illegal :( I have photosensitive epilepsy but love going to live gigs. This was the WORST I've come across in terms of lighting that I've even been to. It's totally unnecessary, your music doesn't need it, and you need to think about accessibility for ALL your fans. I don't expect to pay £70 for 2 tickets then have to leave. Luckily the Newport staff were great and made sure I was ok. I'm so disappointed as I'd waited years.

Awesome gig, absolutely loved it, a great selection of songs, old and new, all classics.

The whole gig appreciated by young and old alike, I have never seen such an age range at a Saturday night gig at the Apollo, was wonderful to see, a real family event.

They come across as being honest, genuine and very down to earth and likeable people. Their lyrics are poetic, their music melodic, powerful and evocative, uniquely placed in today's over produced, churned out processed music scene!

Shame the support C Duncan was so atrocious, what a load of drivel! The only dampener on the eveneing.

Guy and the gang did not cease to amaze with pitch perfect vocals and brilliant interaction with the crowd. “Manchester harmony” he called it. The venue is amazing and just the right size with trains passing by to Deansgate. This causes a great response from the crowd and passengers all waving at each other.

My only negative is the sound curfew as it’s a built up area. I’m sure those all sat on their balconies getting it free wouldn’t complain. Well may be about Kylie the night after.

In all, a brilliant set list and performance from Manchester’s finest. Can’t wait for new album.

Emotional. I wanted to see this band live for ages, but, they do not cross path very often with me, (I am on tour too).

Great venue size. I was close!!! Sound was fantastic. But was it the voice??? Umm... The voice was insane, but.... everything was well balanced as well.

I was already a sick fan.Now, I have proof.

This music grabs every inch of my soul.

I was confused by the mixed audience.. I was one of the youngest. What do people my age like???? Obviously, lost souls!!! It just confirmed my undying irrational love for that band...!!!!! Ouf. Still recovering!!!

First time we have been to see Elbow live and i must say that we were not disappointed. The venue was rather a strange one being in a sports center next to the swimming pool. Support from C Duncan was good. Elbow seem to have a way of ingratiating themselves with the crowd from the get go. There are plenty of songs were they get the crowd to join in and it makes the experience of seeing them that more enjoyable. I would thoroughly recommend going to see them even if you are not necessarily a fan.

In October, frontman Guy Garvey told NME what to expect from the “big fat record,” which he promised to have “some dirt under its fingernails for sure”.

“It deals with some pretty inky stuff,” he said of the lyrics on the upcoming 10th album. “There are a couple of wholesome tunes on there, but by and large there’s everything from a maniacal rant from the point of view of a frontman who’s lost his mind, to really awful portraits of toxic relationships failing – all set to a very thick, guitar, drum and groove-based thing.”

He continued: “As always, it’s produced by Craig Potter – who’s getting more and more into his hip-hop –  and Al our drummer has been writing more on this record. We all share a love of bands like The Meters, so it’s kind of garage-y in a way with Vox organs and a lot of alt-American country sounds. It doesn’t sound like anything that we’ve done before. There’s everything from Stiff Records and what  Elvis Costello  was doing in his early years, right through to Afrika Bambaataa. We’re wearing our influences a bit more proudly.”
